Alexis’s Story

Site created on October 16, 2022

Saturday Octoberr 16 Alexis had an asthma attack that progressed into a critical situation. She started by driving herself to Maple Grove ER where they did nebulizer and CPap treatments. Eventually she had so much chest pain she could not sit or lay down. We now know that her CO2 levels had reached a very high level where the lungs could not expel it.

She was transferred to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale where lung specialists and care were more available. She was put on medicines to keep her still and a ventilator to help her breathe. The excess CO2 in her body is causing swelling and her lungs are very stiff.

... the rest of the story... The surgery did go very well. Dr. Fussell told Alexis this morning that 350 praying made a world of difference they could feel.

At the end of the surgery they noticed mucus plugging that needed to be cleared from one of the bronchial tubes and they cleared that with a bronchial probe. All seemed to be well and they started to wake her up. Suddenly an asthma episode hit and they had to act fast.

By the time they notified me she had already been put on a ventilator and was being moved to ICU. Such a shock, and no explanation yet for why it happened.

This time the ICU staff said it was their goal to get her off the tube as quickly as possible.. and they did! What a HUGE relief to see her sitting up breathing better than before, just 5 hours later.

Today is a day of observation and maybe some new direction. If she is released it will be late.

We are a Grateful Grateful family.. Grateful to God for His mighty hand in Alexis' life.

May you have a Blessed Thanksgiving!!
