We were able to spend a week in the Outer Banks, thanks to Kelly’s cousin. The house had a pool, which Alexis loved, and near the beach. We had plenty of ice cream. We played pirate putt putt, went pier fishing, visited the Aquarium and lost colony.
The pastor of Holy Redeemer in Kitty Hawk gave Alexis anointing of the sick after mass on Saturday.
Returning home Alexis started a new chemo treatment this morning. She will receive chemo twice over a 21 day cycle. While in the Outer Banks we did an initial test to try to qualify her for a clinical trial at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Thursday she will go to Cincinnati for some additional testing.
If she gets in to the new trial, that will determine how much chemo she will get. Getting in will mean less chemo.
At this point the goal of the chemo and trial are to pause/slow the growth of the tumor or shrink the tumor. Without surgery, a cure is not medically likely.
For the most part the chemo shouldn’t stop her from most of her summer activities: vacation bible, softball, swimming, horse camp.
For those in the Medina area we will be putting on an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Fundraiser for their Travel Fund. When we had to travel to Seattle, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation bought the airfare for the 2 trips. The lemonade stand will be in our front yard on June 15th at Noon. Come enjoy lemonade and snow cones for a good cause.
