Newest Update

Journal entry by Charmaine Barker

ZERO! - We made it!🎉

I can’t believe it has almost been a year since our last update! We received the best news this week. All 3 of the Leukemia markers that they have been testing on Alex came back at ZERO! 🎉🎉🎉

We were in SLC the week of Thanksgiving for Alex’s 2 year post transplant appointment. They did another bone marrow biopsy and we have been waiting for these results since then.

We are all overcome with emotion this week. This is the season of miracles ✝️ and I truly believe that this is our Christmas Miracle. As I try to find the words to express our feelings, I have found the best expression of our journey in the lyrics of the song,

When you believe.

Many nights we prayed
With no proof, anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood
Now, we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could,
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve?
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seems like the summer bird
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
My hearts so full, I can't explain
Seeking faith and speakin' words
I never thought I'd say
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve?
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe
They don't always happen when you ask
And it's easy to give in to your fears
But when you're blinded by your pain
Can't see the way, get through the rain
A small but still, resilient voice
Says, help is very near,
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
Now, you will
You will when you
Believe

Alex will return to SLC in June for one more bone marrow biopsy and when those results come back showing all 3 markers remained at zero, Alex will be 100% in remission!

Alex is finishing up his finals at MSU this week and I am so excited to have us all together at home this year for the holidays. We have so much to celebrate!

Thank you again to all of you who have supported us in so many ways on this journey. We have truly been blessed with the best fight team!
