Yesterday marked one year since I was told I have cancer.  Tomorrow, I will receive my FINAL radiation treatment and we’ll head home to Nevada City.  It’s been a difficult year but I do have a new and profound appreciation for so many things that I no longer take for granted.

I feel heavy and tired, but fine otherwise.  I meant to post an update sooner but it’s been a very busy 3 weeks, with Ivan coming down with a flu (or RSV?) shortly after our arrival, and then leaving to visit his family as soon as he was (mostly) better.   Wren is filled with joyous and boundless energy, which can be a challenge to contain.  I took her to the library and despite missing several weeks of school, she has jumped ahead in her reading.  I also had opportunities to catch up with so many old friends that I’ve known for between 10-35 years and appreciated seeing everyone person.   My January appointments will be over Zoom, and I’m looking forward to the new year which will be focused on staying strong and healthy.  For now, there is no evidence of cancer left, and I’ll be taking medication to continue to keep it at bay.  I’m grateful to you all for your support over the past year and expect that there will be no news to share for the foreseeable future.  I leave you with my best wishes for the holidays and Happy 2023 to us all!!

Hier a marqué un an depuis qu'on m'a dit que j'avais un cancer. Demain, je recevrai ma dernière radiothérapie et nous rentrerons à Nevada City. Ça a été une année difficile, mais j'ai une nouvelle et profonde appréciation de tant de choses.

Je me sens lourde et fatiguée, mais ça va autrement. Je voulais publier une mise à jour plus tôt, mais cela a été 3 semaines très chargées, avec Ivan attrapant une grippe (ou VRS ?) peu de temps après notre arrivée, puis partant rendre visite à sa famille dès qu'il allait (surtout) mieux. Wren est rempli d'une énergie joyeuse et illimitée, ce qui peut être un défi à contenir. Je l'ai emmenée à la bibliothèque et malgré plusieurs semaines d'absence à l'école, elle a fait un bond en avant dans sa lecture. J'ai aussi eu l'occasion de retrouver tant de vieux amis que je connais depuis 10 à 35 ans et j'ai apprécié de voir tout le monde. Mes prochains rendez-vous avec les médecins en janvier seront par Zoom, et j'attends avec impatience la nouvelle année ou je serai dédiée à rester forte et en bonne santé. Pour l'instant, il n'y a plus aucune preuve de cancer, et je vais prendre des médicaments pour continuer à le tenir à distance. Je vous suis tous reconnaissante pour votre soutien au cours de l'année écoulée et je m'attends à ce qu'il n'y ait aucune nouvelle à partager dans un avenir prévisible. Je vous laisse avec mes meilleurs vœux pour les fêtes et bonne année 2023 à nous tous !!
