Journal entry by Kevin McLaren

Back to Children’s to start the process for our next round of scans. We started with the GFR DPTA test. This test measures the function of the kidneys. For this test they inject a small amount of a radioactive tracer into her lines and then need to do 4 blood draws. One 40 min after the injection and 3 every 25 min after that. Since they needed to do other labs today and they can only take a certain amount of blood from her, they only did 3 blood draws. Between the blood draws we had OT and PT come see us. They haven’t seen Aleigha since October, they wanted to do an evaluation. OT said she is a little behind, but nothing to be concerned about since she hasn’t had the exposure to normal 2 year old activity. She said she is a quick learner and when she showed her how to do things she caught on right away. We were nervous that she did so well with OT that she would want nothing to do with PT. When PT stopped in, she actually played with them and walked around. They recommend that we start doing some outpatient PT. She did great with PT until they wanted to fit her for new braces. She cried throughout the whole fitting process. After all the blood draws, she also had to get her monthly antibiotic. The nutritionist stopped in to see how tube feedings were going. We said we are so done with her throwing up. She gave us a new feeding plan. Hoping she will tolerate this better. They also started her on a new medicine to help her gut digest food. After her antibiotic was done, we had to head back to radiology to get her dye injection for her MIBG scan for tomorrow. When we got home, we received a call from the clinic saying her hemoglobin and platelets were low. In order to do all of her procedures tomorrow, she would need a blood and platelet transfusion. They said to come back at 630. Kevin volunteered to take her back for the transfusions and I took Tate to his first baseball game. It turned into a very late night. They didn’t get blood or platelets to them until 930. It takes 2 hours for a blood transfusion and 1 hour for platelets. They didn’t get home until 130 AM.
