Journal entry by Jan Young —
On this day last year, I began my treatments for head & neck and kidney cancer. Over the next twelve months I would undergo 7 weeks of chemotherapy & radiation, as well as two major surgeries. I am happy to say that based upon the last PET scan, the treatments were successful and there are currently no signs of cancer.
While the past year has been an extreme challenge, I have come through it with a greater appreciation for the often overlooked "little" things - time spent with friends & family, sunrise/sunset, health, and walking the dog just to name a few. I admit that prior to my illness I took these things too much for granted, but not anymore. The Lord works in ways we often don't understand, but you should not under estimate the power of prayer. Each day is truly a blessing, not to be squandered.
I was fortunate to not have to go through this journey alone. My loving wife, Jan Young, our 3 sons and their spouses, and countless other family and friends were always by my side and in my corner. As if that wasn't enough, we were also blessed with our first two grand children - Riley Jan, and Weston John. My heart is full.
Please take the time today to acknowledge and enjoy the "little" things in your life - I know I will!
