Journal

Dad moved rooms last night before I had to leave, so we were pretty busy towards the end of our day. He is currently on an "intermediate" floor, so he will move to a different floor one more time before he's able to leave the hospital.

He still has his tube feedings at night because he hasn't had much of an appetite. He tends to eat better when I'm here telling him he needs to eat. They allow him to eat what he can during the day, but do the protein packed tube feedings at night to assist in wound healing. Aside from that he doesn't have any other tubes or drains. He is still on a couple liters of supplemental oxygen to help keep his oxygen sats where they needs to be. The healthcare team is keeping him comfortable by assisting him with turns every couple of hours and with scheduled and PRN (as needed) pain meds. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies have started working with him and are doing small exercises with him throughout the day. He is doing really well moving all of his limbs, but the left side seems to be stronger.

Dad has been experiencing some acute confusion, probably from his extended hospital stay and all of the meds he has been on. I try to do brain exercises with him throughout the day, that and the change of scenery should help with this. It's hard for me to see him struggling so much in his own head.

We'll keep asking for prayers for a speedy recovery, especially with the increased confusion. It will be good to get out of here and into a facility where he can move throughout the building rather than sitting in one room all day.
