So much has happened since I last posted about Alan's path to recovery.  Concordia has most definitely lived up to its reputation as being one of the best places imaginable for rehab.  His doctor, the nurses and aides are exceptional, and the PT staff is just amazing.  Now that Alan's feeling a little more comfortable, after what had been a roller coaster ride unlike any we'd ever experienced, he's working very hard to regain the feeling in his right hand, arm, and leg through all kinds of vigorous exercises.  Most significantly, to me, though, is how incredible it has been to witness his sense of humor, memory, and sweet personality actually come back! He's very much himself again in so many ways.  Today he was watching Star Wars and remembering details that most of us have forgotten long ago (including the date when it first came out, actors' names - before they appeared, and plot flaws!).  He's been loving to listen to music, particularly the Brahms Piano Trios and anything else played by Perlman.  And he's eager to get his bow arm back, so we're definitely working on that in tiny bits.  He's so lucky to have a great physical therapist, whose daughter studied with Marlene Moses for about 20 years, and who is encouraging him to do exercises geared to building the strength back in his bow arm.  And I couldn't be more grateful to our daughters who have been the greatest blessings we can imagine.  They've been beacons of light to me, and have most definitely given Alan the love, emotional strength and encouragement to regain as much of his previous life as possible.  (I might have mentioned this already, but one of the greatest motivating forces for Alan is that he be able to take Ariel down the aisle at her wedding in RI, on April 24th, and I do believe this dream will come true.)

Well, this has gotten very long, so I'll end by once again saying that I most definitely believe that all of your love, prayers, and poignant wishes have helped Alan reach today's rather remarkable level of recovery and carried us both through what has been an incredibly surreal event up to this point.  The journey is ongoing, but again, I'm guardedly very optimistic.

With our heartfelt thanks to you all,  Amy
