Journal entry by Vicki Dubbelde

Today was a big day! Aiden got his PICC line out! No more infusions! He does need to take oral antibiotics the same three times a day for about another 6 1/2 weeks. That seems like nothing compared to the infusions. His labs are doing well, and we can discontinue weekly labs. He is happy to hear that because without the line to draw blood, he would have to get poked. He will do some labs again in January. We return to Dr. Lim for infectious disease on January 16.

We also had a very positive visit with the orthopedic spine specialist, Dr. Haft. He believes that because the pain has subsided that we are managing the infection well enough to return Aiden to activity. After giving just a day to allow some healing on the line insertion area, he will start some core exercises and light weights. If his imaging looks good on February 8 at his next appointment, it sounds like he can return to riding his dirt bike. That brought a big smile to Aiden's face!

It's been such a crazy & stressful journey. Thank you to everyone for the amazing support!
