Journal entry by Anna Church —
The scans showed mixed results. The areas that have been treated with radiation and ablated are dying, but the areas in the lungs have increased slightly. There is also a small new spot on the liver and one on the spleen. We will need to change the systemic treatment in order to address the areas that can not be radiated or ablated. We are in a holding pattern again as we wait for insurance to re-approve our current treatment so Aiden can continue with his present treatment as we wait for a new treatment plan. Aiden's scans will be reviewed this week at Thursday's Fibrolamellar Tumor Board meeting. We hope the BostonGene results will arrive this week also, so all information can be reviewed by our doctors and a new treatment plan can be started soon.
Aiden is doing better since his pain is managed. Medication side effects are always something he has to experience and adjust to daily. Hopefully, he will be able to attend school all week this week. I returned to work last week after being on FLMA. I moved to 32 hours so I have more flexibility to take Aiden to his doctor and treatment appointments. My mom is still staying at my house and helping us with our transition back to school and work. Will's family is helping get Aiden to and from school. It is an adjustment to do this without Will. We miss him. Very grateful for the help of family to support us and help make school and work doable.
The spirit has moved through many to support us on Aiden's cancer journey and Will's passing, so I know the divine is there taking care of us. But right now I need it to be more evident when it comes to Aiden's medical needs and cancer treatment. I need the all the pieces to work in synchronicity and provide a treatment that is timely, effective, safe, with minimal side effects, and allows Aiden to manage school and work with ease. I want us to thrive and get beyond surviving day by day.
