Agnes’s Story

Site created on February 26, 2021

Hello family and friends. On Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 6:03 PM, we welcomed Agnes Marie Te Paske to the world following a joyful,  uncomplicated delivery. She weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and measured 20 inches long. Bright eyed, alert and engaged, Agnes presented as a very healthy, robust baby, but shortly after delivery, we discovered that she suffered from very low platelets. While the normal range is between 150,000-400,000, Agnes only had 2,000 platelets. She immediately received a blood platelet transfusion, and a subsequent head ultrasound revealed that she had a 3 centimeter bleed in her brain (stroke). At that point, her physician decided to have her transferred from Mary Washington Hospital to the University of Virginia Medical Center for more advanced care. Eleis was discharged from the hospital early, and she and Jonas immediately relocated to Charlottesville, leaving their 14-month old son, Soren, in the loving, capable hands of family. Agnes' condition changes daily, and we will do our best to pass along updates and communicate ways that you can help through this site.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jonas Te Paske

Not much has happened over the last two days. Agnes got moved over to the less intensive part of the NICU. Eleis got to work with the lactation counselor again.  Yesterday Agnes’ platelet count was 59k, which was holding stead from 57k. Then this morning her count was 80k so we’re getting discharged! We’re getting things packed up and planning to head back to Fredericksburg this afternoon. We’ve got close follow-up with our pediatrician and some of the specialists.  Now we’ve just got to figure out how to take care of two kids. Fortunately we’ve got some great help close to home and we’ve bean reasonably rested because of the support from all of you! Thank you again so much.
