Adriana’s Story

Site created on January 31, 2024

After years of trying to manage increasing neck pain, I underwent an MRI on December 20th, 2023, revealing a medium to large-sized tumor between the top of my spine and next to my brain stem. While the official biopsy is scheduled for my procedure on February 6th, specialists believe it's a clival (skull-based) chordoma, a cancer affecting just 1 in a million annually. Chordoma is considered to be a rare bone tumor believed to come from remnants of embryonic tissue.

My upcoming journey involves surgery on February 6th to remove the tumor, followed by radiation. Your overwhelming support and offers to help mean the world to us. Every message and gesture have made a significant impact. For updates on my surgery, recovery, and more, please sign up on this page. Anticipating a recovery period of 1-3 months post-surgery.

We cherish your love and support. Thank you for being our pillars of strength through this unique time.

Another Hurdle: It’s been one step forward, two steps back lately. This week is proving to be another challenging one. Following a post-op appointment in Boston, I unexpectedly found myself back in the hospital for the fourth time. The removal of packing in my head and stitches in my nose triggered a severe reaction, landing me in Mass General Hospital with excruciating pain and alarming symptoms. Despite the setback, I was fortunate to receive prompt evaluation and care from the surgical team. While there are no complications, it was a grueling and painful ordeal. By Monday night I was at least looking at the hospital from the outside through a hotel window. Needing to stay closer than I’d like.

Finally, I'm back home in Sleepy Hollow, starting the recovery process anew.
