Journal entry by Rachael Holmes —
Addy didn't get to go home today.
I give you these updates states away from Addy (thanks to Paul, Judes, and Jill who are so patient with me texting them daily).
The truth is, I filter.....a lot. And I think Paul, Judes, and Jill filter to me sometimes....maybe most of the time too. Because what you don't realize when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer is how ugly it becomes, so fast and the details are so scary. And honestly, we've seen the worse when we lost Cam. I personally feel lucky that Addy is getting the chance to even battle her disease. The whole situation just sucks, but we're doing everything we can to stay positive and supportive of Addy.
Ad's bilirubin levels are too high and that prevented her from leaving. They are considering a drain in her gall bladder. She was craving pizza the other day, which was huge. She's no longer in PICU and instead is in her regular oncology room. She loves playing Mario Kart.
These updates are hard. Not sure what should be shared, what doesn't need to be shared. One minute Addy is alert and her sassy self, another she is sedated or raging. One minute her ports are clogged and her pain is unmanageable, the next you're getting good news from blood test results. It's a roller coaster ride.
The difficult chemo starts tomorrow. We're just hoping this week is a little easier for Addy than last week.
