Journal entry by Jayme Paul —
It has been a while since an update. In March Addy had a full bone scan at nuclear medicine at Children's in Minneapolis. Per usual she was a trooper. After a couple of tries they were able to inject the radioisotopes. Then it was a 3 hour wait until they could perform the scan. Once the scan started, it took about 30 minutes. Addy informed me that she is like Spiderman because she's radioactive ☢. After review, the doctor let us know that all scans and x-rays looked good, which is such great news.
Then in beginning of April we had Growth Hormone Suppression testing and Gonadotropin-releasing hormone stimulation testing. Thankfully they were able to do both tests at the same time and have Grandma Marcy fly in from Texas to be with us for that appointment! We ended up going to St. Paul the night prior to the appointment, as we had to be at peds short stay by 7:30am. This allowed us to have some fun girl time at the Mall of America and to go swimming the night before the appointment. The Growth Hormone Suppression is an oral-glucose tolerance test (similar to GTT when pregnant). A baseline is drawn and then glucose administered. Then at regular timed intervals blood is drawn to test glucose and growth hormone. Growth hormone should stay low when introducing glucose to the system. The stimulation test was drawing a baseline of FSH and LH, getting an injection of Lupron and drawing blood 24 hours post injection. Her growth hormone test was normal, which was a HUGE relief!! Her stimulation test was abnormal, indicating Central Precocious Puberty. Due to this, Addy will start triptudor injections. For these injections, we will go to St. Paul Children's every 6 months. Her 1st round will be towards the end of June. At that time, we will get a better understanding of the duration of the injections.
Overall, we are incredibly grateful for the news we've received so far. This disease can vary so much between each person, and Addy current results are showing a mild case, which is a HUGE relief!
Many thanks to everyone who has continued to reach out and the many prayers. Having so many people rooting for her, has been amazing.
