Abby’s Story

Site created on January 7, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As of late December 2018, Abby has been diagnosed with T-ALL, an aggressive form of leukemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma. Abby was diagnosed while traveling with her family over the Christmas holiday, and returned home early to begin treatment. She is currently receiving chemotherapy on an outpatient basis. So far, her body has been responding well to the treatment.  Thankfully, she and her family have been receiving a great deal of care and support from family and friends. This site will provide a forum for Abby to communicate with the many people who love her about what is going on, receive their words of love and encouragement, and let folks know how they can support Abby and her family through her journey of healing.  Let's lift one another up in prayer!

Journal entry by Leah Martens

Friends,

Leah here again posting on Abby's behalf and letting you know that today is a big day!  This afternoon the staff at Stanford's hospital will pump the stem-cell rich blood they've extracted from her brother, Jared, into Abby's system. Then over the next two to four weeks, those stem cells will hopefully start reproducing in Abby's bone marrow, building her a cancer free body!

Included here are some pictures of abby and her brother, as well as a shot of the collection machine that has been taking his blood and preparing it to give to Abby.

Please keep up the prayers, meditations, and well-wishes on Abby, Jared, and their families' behalf. Also, you are welcome to visit Abby at Stanford hospital, provided you do not have any cold or flu symptoms. Remember that Abby's immune system is completely suppressed at this time, so it will not try to fight the transplanted stem cells, making her vulnerable to infection.

You can also send things to cheer her up, although flowers and plants are not permitted. Cards, balloons, and other gifts could be sent to:

Stanford Hospital

300 Pasteur Dr Rm E142

Palo Alto, CA

Also, don't forget the meal train for Keith and the kids is available here.

Thanks again for all of your love and support. It means the world to Abby and her family.
