Journal entry by Jackie Nordman —
This medication is working. Symptoms are few and far between, lasting a few hours and then going away. Throughout the last year, whenever Aaron is in the hospital, to distract his worry, we would talk about things he wants to do or eat when he feels better. During his January hospital stay, he said he wanted to attend a Gopher Hockey game and Cosmic Bingo at Mystic Lake. As a family, we fulfilled both of those during his spring break. He felt good throughout both excursions and enjoyed every minute. It was so great being together, and it felt like a pivotal moment for all of us. The tide may be finally turning.
I wouldn't say our guard is entirely down, but the more time he lives symptom-free, the more our nerves will settle. Text messages still cause a pit in my stomach, but the more I get from him asking me questions about laundry or letting me know when he is coming home, the more it helps ease my worried thoughts.
Thank you to everyone who donated to Aaron's Team! We are continuing our fundraising efforts for the Take Steps Minnesota walk on June 9th at Viking Lakes in Eagan, MN. Aaron would like to raise $500. If you would like to donate, here is the link to help Aaron meet his goal.
I heard from a few people who have family members with Crohn's or UC talk about this event. They said it was life-changing for those diagnosed with IBD to know they are not alone and feel the support of others. We are so looking forward to this event for Aaron.
Thank you so much for your continued thoughts and prayers.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Aaron's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
