Eleasha,

They were highlighting a St. Baldrick's day event here today on the local news and I immediately thought of Cody. How I miss that little guy even though I never got to meet him. You are often on my mind and I always keep all of you in my prayers. I hope the days are getting a little easier to cope with.

Elesha,
I know there are no words of comfort that can really do anything at all to ease your pain. I would strongly suggest you talk with a counselor, or find a group to share your grief, your pain, your anger, your hopelessness with. Someone who will listen and let you be the sounding board to share your deepest scariest thoughts with. Life has a strange way of working itself out with time, but only if you are able to allow it too. I think about you and Cody a lot, even if I don't stop by to see you as often as I should. You are so in my thoughts and prayers.
I will pray you find a source of hope and peace.

Hi Eleasha. I was moved to tears as I worked my way through this site...the photos, the songs, the guestbook entries. I am so sorry for what you and your family have endured. I have only known you for a short time, but the story of your life has touched me.

I know that God is not through writing that story. He is in the middle of creating a great work.(Eph 2:10) The chapters of precious Cody's life here with you are the pivotal chapters. Ones that will give all the chapters after them, their full meaning. All is not lost. Cody has only turned in his earthly tent for a glorious heavenly body which does not ever get tired, sick or hurt. (2 Cor 5:1-10) You know because Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you have the hope of living out eternity with Cody.

Not a single painful thing in your story has been overlooked, forgotten or wasted by your Heavenly Father. God will use every tear, every crushing disappointment of relapse, every feeling of loneliness and brokenness you have experienced, for "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Rom 8:28)

I pray that you will feel God's comfort and His peace as He continues this story. His purposes will unfold, as you walk forward in Him. "But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2Pet 3:8-9

To sweet Cody, it will be but a moment before you are there with him, even though it is many years to you. I know that God will use Cody's life and yours to bring many to repentance so that they will not die without knowing Jesus as Lord of their lives.

Hello to you!!! I just checked Alexandria's site today, (only get by once a week or so now) and thought how very strange that I was just thinking about you all the other day, and praying that you all were doing ok. Then I saw your message...total God thing!! I would love to get your new address so we could stay in touch. I don't think we have talked since you moved :(
I don't get around to many CB sites anymore. It is just so painful to watch so many families (more and more unfortunately) go through the same nightmare our family's have. It makes me insane to know that our govt. isn't doing more to save our children, so sad.
We all seem to just keep pluggin along at this thing called "life." What else can you do?
Email me sometime, would love to catch up. I am going to check FB and see if you are on there. I just started not too long ago. I am trying to get Hayden to put some pics on there so then you will be able to see "the crew."

hugs and HOPE my friend-

Sorry I haven't been here in a long time. It has been over a year since I've updated my own site, but finally got around to it today. Did you know we moved to Wisconsin about 9 months ago? It sure is colder here! Take care of yourself. I pray God will heal the hurt in your heart.

Hello,

We hope you don’t mind that we leave this message on your guestbook. It is important that we get this message out to all families who have experienced childhood cancer in the state of Virginia.

Virginia DMV has agreed to design a specialty license plate for Childhood Cancer Awareness after 350 prepaid applications have been collected by the Childhood Cancer Awareness Foundation located in Chesapeake, Virginia.

If you are interested in obtaining this specialty license plate for your vehicle, please visit our website at http://www.HelpCancerKids.org

On 31 January 2009, the IRS approved our foundation as a 501(c) (3) public charity. The foundation was started by Tom and Joanne Kral of Chesapeake, Virginia as a way to honor Kristina Marie Kral, our 7 year old daughter who died of a rare and aggressive form of pediatric cancer, and to help other children diagnosed with cancer.

Order and prepay for your Childhood Cancer Awareness specialty license plate through our website for $25, plus a PayPal fee of $3. If we are unable to collect the required 350 prepaid applications, you will be reimbursed and your application shredded.

Thank you for your support for childhood cancer.

You are not forgotten, you are not forgotten, you are not forgotten. God, He knows your name...
That song is on my heart for you this night. I am so sorry I didn't get by here on the 14th. It was a clinic day and you know how those go. I needed all of yesterday to try and become coherent again. At any rate, I can't imagine your sorrow and all I can do is say "I'm so sorry" and pray. It never 'feels' like enough, but the righteous live by faith so I have to have faith that prayer IS enough when it comes to caring for you my dear friend. It is the
BEST thing I can do to ask God to express through my feeble words how much I do love and care for you guys. You are such a blessing. I think about you ALL the time and continually lift you up in prayer. If you need me: 336 250 9175. ANYTIME. Thank you for continuing to update the journal and share your Cody with all of us out here. I will be back to check on you periodically. In the meantime, please know that you're held in prayer. Blessings in Christ as you continue to try and make it one moment at time.

Clicked on the website after not visiting (but often thinking about you and your boy) for awhile and tears ran down my face as I was surprised by "Who Knew?" I tell you all the time that he touches me through that song and today, so did you...

My heart is broken for the loss of this child, your child, and now the child you have graciously let return to his Heavenly Father - but not without sorrow...

I love the memories, the time we had together and as the aniversary of the little man's heavenly journey approaches, I want you to know that I care.

Hi Cody.

When I sign the guestbooks of children who have gone to live with Jesus, I often mention how they are living where there is no pain, fear, or sadness. Your home page reminded me of something even better.

The cartoon of the devil being smashed by the Word of God got me thinking. The time will come when Satan will be chained for a thousand years. After that he will be cast into the Lake of Fire forever. But you and Mamie and all the children playing with you are already completely safe from all his attacks.

I just feel like he should be here...He SHOULD be here...except that he is so much happier there than he was here suffering. It just sucks. I know I'm preaching to the choir. I guess I just wanted to let you know what goes through my head and heart. I miss Cody too. Great kid. GREAT kid. Can't wait to see him again. And, although not in the same way, I miss you too. It’s hard for me to know what to say to my friends who have lost their child(ren), their mother or both. However, I refuse to ignore your pain and lack of words has never stopped me from letting people know how I feel so I will try to offer something to you from my heart. At my church, we have a long standing tradition (for those who wish to participate) of distributing different colors of roses to signify those who have their mothers here, those who do not and those who have lost children. The purpose is to signify that we realize that not everyone is rejoicing on Mother’s Day and to let those who are grieving know that they are being given extra consideration. Additionally, it reminds those who are joyful to be thankful for what they do have. Although you are not going to be in my church service physically, I wanted to let you know that I will be thinking of you when we recognize our grieving women. I always keep you in my heart. And during a time when the world can be rather insensitive to those who have lost people in their lives who make Mother’s Day most meaningful, I want to make a special effort to let you know that you are loved and not forgotten. HUGS!

I'm so sorry to hear you have to have surgery. I will be praying for all the necessary things that God brings to my heart for your family during this time. Short story: as I was cleaning out my car so they could tow it away, I located my magazine with Cody's picture and story in it. It made me smile so big. I always carried it with me in my car in case I saw someone I had not shared his story with. I wanted everyone to know. My fondest memory of him is his HUGE smile one day in clinic after he grew back his hair and spiked it blue. I ran my fingers through his hair that day and he gave me the biggest smile back and said "thanks dude". I miss Cody and cannot even begin to imagine the void you feel without him physically here. I thought you might like to know that he's not forgotten in this heart either and is still bringing smiles to faces of strangers with his testimony. I love you guys. Happy Thanksgiving and THANK YOU for the HUGE blessing you've been to me.

When we are united with our loved ones for eternity, our time of missing them will seem to have been but a moment.

I was getting ready to make a new journal entry in Mamie's site, but I always start with a passage from scripture and I was having a hard time choosing one this time, so I decided to visit some other sites first. This was the first one and your selection from First Peter struck me as just what I was looking for.

I can not even believe it has been 2 years. I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Somehow, by God's grace and mercy, this year was more bearable to me than previous years. Eleasha, I have been lurking on this site for a long time and finally felt moved to write. Your words spoke to me today because when we women of the world that are the "Veronicas" need to be patient, it is nearly impossible without Gods help. Remember that if God is calling you to get "out of the boat", don't ask how deep is it, is it cold?.... just get out and know that His plan will surface.
K. Webb

Eleasha - I was visiting another CB site and found the following - I remembered your prayers for patience and I thought this may help. I check on you and Cody often - I should let you know that more often - Mary H (I found your site a while back through Alexandria's site)

"By faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope (Galatians 5:5)"
"There are times when everything looks very dark to me - so dark that I have to wait before I have hope. Waiting with hope is very difficult, but true patience is expressed when we must even wait FOR hope. When we see no hint of success yet refuse to despair, when we see nothing but the darkness of night through our window yet keep the shutters open because stars may appear in the sky, and when we have an empty place in our heart yet will not allow it to be filled with anything less than God's best - that is the greatest kind of patience in the universe. It is the story of Job in the midst of the storm, Abraham on the road to Moriah, Moses in the desert of Midian, and the Son of Man in the Garden of Gethsemane. And there is no patience as strong as that which endures because we see "him who is invisible" (Heb. 11:27). It is the kind of patience that waits for hope.

Dear Lord, You have made waiting beautiful and patience divine. You have taught us that Your will shoud be accepted, simple because it IS Your will. You have revealed to us that a person may see nothing but sorrow in his cup yet still be willing to drink it because of a conviction that Your eyes see further than his own. Father, give me Your divine power - the power of Gethsemane. Give me the strength to wait for hope - to look through the window when there are no stars. Even when my joy is gone, give me the strength to stand victoriously in the darkest night and say "To my heavenly Father, the sun still shines". I will have reached the point of greatest strength once I have learned to wait for hope." George Matheson.

Hi
Sometimes I think God opens new "Chapters" to our lives for a reason.... and yes, we need to be patient to figure out just what that is. I can't imagine how hard it'll be to leave, altho Cody is found in your heart, not in a place. Perhaps Cody wants you to move or leave behind the sad memories so you can concentrate on the happier moments without distraction? I'm only guessing. Your in my thoughts, and please keep us updated on your new life in the Key's.... how lovely! Our book of life has chapters that keep getting written, and none of us know the plot, characters and final chapter. HUGS

Blessed Father's Day
For Fatherly Guidance

Lord God, author of all wisdom,
Teach me how to do my work as a father according to your will.
Enlighten my mind that I may understand what to tell my children when it is necessary to give them direction or advice.
Give me good judgment to understand true spiritual values and to guide my family in your ways.
The world makes little of your wisdom and is not instructed in your ways, and close contact with the world makes it easy to become dulled to the things of solid spiritual worth.
Be my guide at all times, that I may be a true father and husband, sensitive always to the divine wisdom that only you can impart.
God, by the light of the Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of your faithful.
Grant that I may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Praying for you,

I got married in Key West last July. It is a beautiful town...the locals are a bit....ummmm...different! And Duval street at night...whew! I lived in NC, and Orlando and Key West seemed a million times hotter and more humid! My prayers are with you during this hard transition. Your sweet Cody is never for from my thoughts...

I cannot imagine how you feel. I pray you have the strength to get up everyday and put one foot in front of the other as that is what Cody would have wanted. Perhaps, this is God's (or Cody's) way of pushing you to grieve in another way. Peace be with you my friend you have a beautiful angel watching over you. Miss you Cody James

I got your carepage from a friend who works at Memorial Hospital. She helped me set up my carepage for my daughter. I lost her in Janurary to respiratory arrest and secondary cardiac arrest from her airway being blocked by a chicken nugget. She was 2 and a half when it happened. I wathched every horrific detail of her dying. God did give her back to me after 10 long minutes...but in a much different way then I could have ever imagined. She is severly brain damaged from the lack of oxygen. She no longer is aware of her environment. She no longer knows me..her mommy. She is now blind, has a trach, a g-tube to eat and is concidered spastic quadriplegic. She was a normal happy healthy girl before the accident. My heart and soul died with her that day. Each and every day is a struggle. Reading your story brought me to complete tears. I will never understand why these things happen to our children. I will be praying for strength for your family. My daughters carepage is: www.caringbridge.org/visit/alyssagarbutt

Eleasha,
I haven't stopped by in a while and was thinking of you today. After reading your last entry I had tears in my eyes as always. I never realized that my oldest son and Cody were exactly the same age almost down to the hour. Cooper was born @2:52pm on April 14th, 1996. It gave me a little shiver. There is no significant meaning in that, it just served as a reminder to me of Cody and all he endured,as my son Cooper celebrated his 11th birthday. I have learned to appreciate my children more and more as Nolan has gone through his life with many trials and the lives of all our friends whoes children have gone on to heaven. We are but a vapor in this world. Someday soon we will all be celebrating together in heaven and the pain and worries of this world will matter no more. Thinking of you and lifting you in prayer.
Love,
Nancy

Hope on Mother's Day you remember some good memories of your ^Cody^. I know he is watching over you.
“Love...It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.”
(1 Corinthians 13:7)

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

I love you guys Eleasha. And, I want to come visit when you are up to it. Please give me a call and let me know. We get out of school June 11th (and I have NO intention of spending the summer on 5200 again!!) So, I'm planning to travel around and do some things I missed out on while I had to do the inpatient then "5 mins. from Duke" deal last year. Until we figure out how to make a visit happen, know that you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I love and miss you so much. Can't wait to give you a "for real" hug. Blessings in Christ to whom I KNOW you cling.

Dear Cody:

Good Morning and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! It was 11 years ago when you blessed me with your presence. We were lucky to have made it to the hospital on time!!! It was 2:10 a.m. when we arrived and you were in our arms at 2:52 a.m. It's hard to believe so much has happened since then. It's hard to believe you are back at home in heaven. It's hard to believe you are never coming home.

I miss you sooooo much. I know that a birthday in heaven must be amazing!!!! I am sure that there is nothing you long for or want. I am grateful for that. I am grateful for your complete healing. I am grateful that you no longer suffer. I am grateful that we had you for as long as we did. BUT, I am human and I miss you. I wish that there were some way you could have been healed right here with me. I wish that things could have been different. YET, I am grateful for the way they were. Does that even make sense?

I wanted so much for you. I had so many hopes, so many dreams. I am sorry they never came true. I am sorry that life here was so hard for you. I wish I could have taken all your pain away.

I hope you know how much I love you. I would give anything to have you here with me.

You fought a good fight, son. You ran a good race. I am the person I am today because of you. Thank you.

We have plans to send you a bunch of orange balloons this afternoon at 2:52 p.m. I know they are 12 hours late, but I didn't want to drag the rest of the kids outside in the middle of the night. I am sure you understand. We will eat cake and we will sing happy birthday to you. I know you will be here with us.

I love you. I miss you. Happy Birthday.

Love Always,
Mom

This is a day of REFLECTION - of blessings, sadness, joy and yes, pain... Today our son, grandson, brother and friend was born 11 years ago... 11 years that seem a blur. Cody was many things - funny, clever, fearless, insightful - even helping to plan his own final arrangements.

But most of all, Cody was a little boy who loved his mom - and taught her many lessons including how to perservere in the face of insurmountable odds and... how to go on in the midst of a grief few will ever know.

Yes, today IS a day of refelction but also a day to celebrate - celebrating the life of a young man who touched many in ways that will never be forgotton.

Jelly beans & Jesus

Have you heard the story of the jelly beans?

Little jelly beans
Tell a story true.
A tale of our Father's love
That's just for me and you.

GREEN is for the new spring grass.
YELLOW is for the sun above.
BROWN is for the soft earth where
People sat hearing of HIS love.

PURPLE'S for the robe he wore
RED is for that precious wine.
BLACK is for the sins He washed
From your soul and mine.

BLUE'S for the sadness of
HIS friends and family,
and is for the glory of the Day
HE rose for you and me.

Now that you've heard the story
You know what each color means.
The story of our Father's love
As told by jelly beans.
So when you see jelly beans on this Easter season,
stop and remember,
Jesus is the reason!

"For God so loved the world, He gave His One and Only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Valentines...... To Heaven

This Valentine is not of the ordinary kind,
Its still filled with love...and blessings inside;
But mine has to be sent on the wings of love...
You see its destination is the Heavens above.

Its not being sent to my parents so dear,
For they are still with me each day of the year;
Its being sent to my child...who left earth so soon,
Who's now in the Heavens with the stars and the moon.

The message is the same as your valentine,
"I love you...my sweet precious child of mine;
My love is still deeper than the ocean is blue,
And its sent with hugs and kisses...from me to you."

"I know you are with me each and every day,
You listen as I talk to you...and hear what I say;
For that is one thing that disease cannot do...
...you'll always be apart of me...and me a part of you."

"I know God did not give you the awful disease,
Thank Him for His comfort He gives me...would you please?
I dont know what I would do without His undying love...
Sent to bereaved parents from the Heavens above."

"I know you are in the best of care,
But it's so hard for us left on earth to bear;
Could you put in a request from us left behind...
For God to send the knowledge..so a cure we can find."

"So that no other family has to go through this pain,
Our lives without you will never be the same;
When I get lonely I will look to the sky at night...
And see you shining down your big bright light."

I love looking at Cody's pictures. He had such a wonderful smile on his face. Although I forget to sign the guestbook, I do constantly look for updates. I'll try and do better at signing so you know that we are still out hear listening.

Hey girl-
Just read your update and my heart breaks when I read your words. I have been there so many times but never without my loving husband right there to support me on the bad days. I can only imagine how difficult it must be while Greg is gone. It sounds like he has plans to return soon which would be awesome. Know that you are in my prayers as always.

Hugs and Hope-
Alison

There has been a song rolling around in my head for a few weeks. "It's A Long Trip Alone" by Dierks Bentley. It has really fit my mood as of last and it seems that it fits your mood as well. If you get a chance, listen to it. I think you will like it.

While I know it is impossible to feel your pain, I know mine and it is overwhelming to understand. I applaud your courage to look at your grief, openly love your other boys - including that silly husband of yours - and rise above an anger and pain that could eventually destroy....

You are courageous, you always have been - now you must be loving towards yourself - Cody would want that - you know he was your biggest fan... :)

Hi Eleasha - I hope Greg gets home soon. I know it has to be hard to be on your own. We think of Cody often. Just the other day we saw a truck that had some dirt bikes on it and we immediately thought about Cody. Thanks for keeping tabs on us. Hang in there. Hugs,

What a beautiful page you have put together in memory of your Cody. He was truly a blessing to you. My prayers are with you as you journey through life now in a different direction. I held my son for his last breath in my arms, and i wouldn't have done it any other way. Take care

People come and they go in the guestbook world - as time trudges on they have less to say, a sense of emptiness...

Just know in your heart while each of us moves through life and our daily routine, we will never forget the loss of our little man.

My sweet girl - we enjoyed you so much too! I keep reflecting how well two hens in the same hen house can get along so well when they both don't try to sit on the eggs at the same time - hey! ouch! get off me!!!

That would have been our Cody's sense of humor for sure :)

We love you all and pray for Greg's safe return as the next chapter of your lives unfolds.
