Chassity, my son's platelet count was 19k yesterday too!!! He is becoming transfusion dependant but has Fanconi Anemia which causes bone marrow failure. He is also at risk for cancer. I thought I'd say Hi and let you know we are praying for you all too!

Hi my name is Courtney Corona. I'm 17 years old I was first diagnosised in June of 1991 with NB4. I was in remission for over 7 1/2 years before relapsing in Sept of 1999. I have had chemo,stem cell transplant,radiation,monoclonal antibodies. I did most of my treatment here in Utah but have been going back to Sloan-Kettering since August of 2000. I now just go back to New York every six months. I think the next time i will be in New York is in January for a check-up. Maybe when I'm back there I can meet you. My son, Daniel has been in remission for stage 4 neurobastoma for 28 months. We live in MN but were also treated at Sloan-Kettering. They are *wonderful* doc's there-- and Dr L did Daniel's surgery as well..he is THE best! Daniel went through 20 some rounds of the antibodies--I honestly believe they have helped him get to where he is today.

Chassity,Sorry to hear you may have to have your line removed too. Zach is getting his out today at 11:30. At least they know what's causing the fevers and vomiting. I guess it is a very very rare type of fungal infection so he's on multiple antibiotics. Now everything else will be delayed, but it sounds like you know exactly how that goes. I spent the night with Zach last night. We didn't get much sleep (none) but Willie Wonka came on at 4:00 a.m. That's a real eye opener at that time of the morn. I sure hope that the extra "bed" at your hospital is more comfortable than it is at OSF. I think the only thing more comfortable would have been laying on concrete floor!!!! Sure hope your infection is gone and you're line don't have to be pulled, but if it does remember we are praying and thinking about you and your family. Diane (Zach's grandma)

Chassity,Sorry to hear about your infection. Zach is still in the hospital with fevers.Just figured out that he has a fungal infection. Tomorrow we'll find out what kind. Sounds alittle like you. If its one kind he has to have his line replaced too. I sure hope not. He's had so many lines and surgerys that they had to put this last one in his groin.Next time they said it would have to go straight into his heart,which they don't like to do unless absolute necessary. I think you are a smart and sweet girl. I will be praying for you as you enter your stem cell transplant. We have a little boy, Vincent, now 9 years old in remisson from stage 1v neuroblastoma. (dx 10/28/99 at the age of 4 yrs with metastatic left hip pain as his 1st symptom) He had gone through a protocol at the Children's Hosp of Philadelphia that he was able to hang on to and bear through; and it included chemos, resection surgery, radiation, double peripheral stem cell transplants(AKA bone marrow transplants with his own stem cells that were purged).He was in 'speculative' clinical remission, no signs of evident disease before the transplants. He has a will like a bull, and quite feisty by nature. He had one week of rest between being called back for the 2nd transplant. We had a hard time keeping up with him, as we had three other older children at home as well. We prayed often and hard to God and asked him what he wanted of Vincent to bear (And us!!)We asked his will be done, and gave the Lord every day. (We found the days to be beyond our understanding most days.) Vincent always kept us quessing and pervailed. He is now in 3rd grade, and lives his life in small happy ways. We try to keep things as simple as they should be for a little boy.Please know I will ask for prayers for your strength and healing from this disease, but also for days that are full of love and some inner peace................. Hi Chassity - How is it going? Getting ready for the big day . . . . .? Zach likes to LIVE BIG before he goes in for a big procedure and what you are getting ready for it's a big procedure. In 1999 Zach had an Autologous Transplant and that was definitely something that I remember - he turned 7 while he was in there. He doesn't remember a lot -they give you lots of drugs that just put you out - ask for ativan (not too sure of the spelling) it's a drug that helps with nausea and it does something to your memory that will let you not remember things and also puts you to sleep most of the time - during a transplant - it's a good drug! During that time Zach was trying to make me laugh - even as bad as he felt - he still tried to put a smile on my face - he said as long as I had a smile on my face he knew everything was ok! I love him! Anyway, you and Zach should do something fun together - you know LIVE BIG - our phone number is 309-347-3625 - that way you can have something to look forward to - to hurry up and get better and out of the hospital and Zach can look forward to doing something fun - like going to the beach or . . . not too sure as to the fact Zach really can not be too physically active right now - but something totally exciting! The way I look at it - kids that the devil is trying to kill - steal and destroy - they are going to be mighty people of God and as long as you keep yourself above all the negative things and stay close to God - his promise is - that he will take care of you and give you your heart desires!

will get a real kick out of it. Only someone that has personally experienced NB truly understands. He ended up in the hospital today after his chemo. He started experiencing

I just wrote you a little message, but when I went to enter it I received an error message and then everything that I wrote was erased. I'm sure that there was a lot of funny stuff that would have had you rolling on the floor. Too bad that I can't remember what it was. I think you would have liked it. They said that this would happen when I got old.

Niagra Falls and Canada, WOW. We have never been there. In fact, the only foreign country that we've been to is West Virginia. I can't wait to go back. It's like they have their own language and everything. I'm even considered young there. Everyone there called me boy. All I heard was "boy, you aint from around here," and "boy you don't belong here," and "boy you better leave here". Boy oh boy, I wonder if they may have had something wrong with there eyes.

Anyway, Parker just started the next phase of his treatment. As long as everything goes right, we will only have doctor's appointments one time per week for a while. Tuesdays are usually the day. We look forward to seeing you soon. I'll try to remember to bring my handcuffs next time.

Chass, I thought about you and your mom all day today. I had grandma call me all day today as soon as she heard anything. I am so glad that the surgery went ok, another battle won!!So you had a 2nd esophagus, I guess thats why you talk so much.
Do you remember the other night when we talked and I said it wasn't fair that you had to have cancer and go thru all of this? Your response was "If not me, than some other poor kid would have to get it". That answer tells me exactly what kind of person you are..kind, loving, mature and an all around good person. You don't find many people of any age like that. You are one in a million. (Must of got that from me)! If you still don't know it, even though we tell you all the time, We Love You!
And yes Carrie, I love my big sister also!!
Just take your time and get better so you can go home. I may surprise you with a visit, I may even bring Grandma with me!! Love, Uncle Shane

Chassity!!

Hey you!! We missed you in yearbook this year. Guess what!?! We got this new system where all of the pictures are taken digitally and then the computer puts them on the page. You can do a page in about 5 minutes. SO NO MORE CROPPING!!! Except one day we had to crop the club pictures (remember those) and you should have heard the whining and carrying on because they had to crop like 5 pages. Even Kacey said they were big babies. I should have had you come in and laugh at them and tell them what it was like in the "old days."

Kacey did a really good job as 7th grade editor. She'll do a good job next year too I think. She's looking forward to it because her brother will be in 6th grade and on yearbook. She just want to boss him around!

I still have your art picture on my wall that you wanted to throw away. I look at it and it reminds me of you and to always love my friends as much as I can.

Get well and come by Marshall and see the yearbook. I won't make you do anything like hand them out. That's why I have little kids on the yearbook - to do my bidding! ha ha ha

Here it is: There was a blonde and she had just gotten settled in her hotel room at a five star hotel in none other than VEGAS. Anyway, she decided that she would start her vacation with a little gambling in the casino down in the lobby. So, the blonde makes her way down from the 22nd floor to the ground floor and as soon as she take one step out of the elevator, she is face-to-face with a "machine". There's a big sign on the machine reading, "place quarter here" so she does and before you know it a candy bar pops out. The dumb blonde does this for almost 10 minutes and a candy bar pops out everytime. Finally, a line starts to form behind her and a curious guy comes up to ask her what in the world she is doing. The blonde turns to the man with a "you're stupid" look on her face, she does the attitude shake with her head and say, "Duh, I'm ah-WINNING".
(He He He, it was a candy machine). Well, I hope that you liked it. And no hard feelings to any blondes out there because I'm one too. So, there's a joke you can share with the doctors who are doing a lot of good work in helping you.

I know from personal experience that being cooped up in a hospital 24/7 isn't exactly a fun ride. You miss the outside world, you miss the people you normally associate with. ok so there's this old 75 year old couple, and as they get older they lose their memory. so they see a doctor to find out what they can do about it. the main thing the doc says is "write things down more often so you don't forget them" so they agree to give it a try. the following evening they're watching TV together and the husband gets up to get a drink and asks his wife if she'd liek anythign while he's up. she says "how bout a bowl of vanilla ice cream w/ chocolate syrup". he says "alright" she says "better write that down so you don't forget it". he says "nah, i'll be fine" so 30 minutes later he comes back w/ a plate of eggs and bacon and his wife says "honey you forgot my toast"
