Both of my children have NF1 as well. My oldest, Trinity has severe toeing in and looks like her entire leg is rotated. We have seen an ortho-doc and he didn't seem to concerned. How did you find out abt Caden's leg issues? Could he not walk or did it just look "funky"? My youngest is on his break from chemo for an optic glioma. Any info you feel comfortable giving on Caden's "leg" journey would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi guys! I was so happy to see an update - it felt like it had been forever! Glad to hear that you enjoyed spring break - we are still enjoying ours (and happy too that there are only a few days left! Ours was a full 2 weeks...). Kara, guess what?? I've been growing my hair for what seems like forever...waiting for the magical 10 inches that are needed for locks of love. So many similarities - too funny! Are you still thinking about Disney '09? Kara, it's great to see an update, although I don't automatically receive the notifications. I wonder if it's because Caden's caringbridge site is an older one? Anyway, so glad to hear that things are going so well for Caden. God is great! I hope things are going well for you and your new husband, too. Take good care!

Hi, all--
I am so glad the new year has started well for you all...and good grief, I know that lost feeling of "you don't want us back at clinic until WHEN?? Really???"

NF is a marathon, and while we are sorry to be in it a lot of times, we are grateful to get to "run" with folks like you all.

I sincerely hope that Caden keeps on running, and things heal and grow and do what they are supposed to.

Thanks so much for your support...it means so much--
peace,

Hey guys!
What an awesome update! Great news on the hospital visits! I can relate...Preston had his last day of speech today. He has been going for the last 3 years and I feel a bit lost (and a lot sad, but happy too!) now that we are done. I know it is great news, but it is another chapter of our lives that has ended, and even though it was tough one, it still makes it a bit hard to be done. It is so comforting to have the "watchful eyes" of the professionals on our kiddos.

How exciting about the swimming too! I'm working on updating P's page with his latest news and it includes some big swimming accomplishments too!

How have the 1st few days of school been?

Take care and know we are always praying for you guys!

We've missed "talking" with you and your mommy - it has been way to busy! I am SO excited that you jumped in the pool and went down the slide all by yourself! I really do know how huge that is!! We will be praying extra hard for the behavorial issues to start clearing - we've been there too, only in different ways. I wish so much that we lived near each other, I think you and Preston would be great friends! You probably read already, but P just finished his social skills class (Pragmatics), have you checked to see if anyone in your area offers something like that? Kara and Caden,
Well, it took me long enough to get a message posted here.
Totally WRONG!!! But I'm so glad we have the joy of getting to have you close by and spending time with you! Caden, your buddy Roman says Hi! and that he loves you and misses you. Eating lunch with you at Cotton Patch on Sunday after church was fun, and we hope to go with you to your new house again soon. Julianna is loving getting to see you at Vacation Bible School every day this week. I'm glad you are having such a good time! (And Mommy is doing a great job with those crafts!) We love you!
Hugs from all of us!

Hi Caden and Kara,

Caden you are soooo brave finding a snake and a lizard-yuck! I would have run away screaming, but not you! I'm glad that you are having fun at your new art 'class', and I hope the rest of your summer is fun too!
Kara, Happy Birthday!! Mine is July 2nd, so that makes you a Cancer, and nurturer, too! Glad you have a few hours a week to just get your mind together and maybe relax a little. Have a wonderful summer!

Hey Caden! Whats up pal? I really like your handsome pictures. I read some of your journal and I am sorry that you were having such a hard time. I hope you are doing better. You are such a brave boy going through your surgery. My grandson has a bowed tibia and broken fibula also. Plus he starts chemo next week for his eyes, so we will be busy praying for each other to heal now won't we?
Give your mom a big ole fashioned texas hug from me. Shes a fabulous mommy you have there! We love her over at the BB at CTF. She prays for everybody and that is great because everybody there surely needs it. Take Care & have a great 4th of July and summer Caden!

Hey guys!
Thanks for the sweet message Kara. P is up and around this morning but we're keeping him home from speech and school since he's a little wobbly still. Thanks for the prayers for todays appt - it sure helps!!

Has Caden's cardio appt been scheduled yet? How is the peeling? We think of you guys all the time (I think I check your page numerous times a day...) and are praying for our little buddy. Hang in there!

Hi Caden and Kara!
So glad to hear that you had a slow and mostly normal weekend. Praying for good weather so the final days of school can be extra fun and for the cardio appt to be soon.

Any chance that I can get (or borrow) a copy of the movie (I'm assuming it is Melissa's?)? I can ask her too, just let me know. I would love to see it. Now that I am thinking about it, maybe it was the one from the NF BB...If so, I've seen that one - they did a great job with it!

I am glad Caden is enjoying the pic, it was the least we could do to thank you for your wonderful contribution to our little project!!

Anyway, we pray for you guys every day! Praying for the house stuff too!

Hello Kara and Caden!
Thanks to you guys, Gram Jan and to your friend/uncle for the wonderful surprise that we received today! WOW - 4 Plates AND a real picture of our buddy too!! Thank you SO much!! Thanks for sharing some of your prized possessions with us!

We will keep on praying for you guys especially as you try to figure this seizure stuff out. That must be pretty scary. We'll just be praying for them to stop all together!

We got P's MRI date - it is next Wednesday in the afternoon. I had hoped for an am scan (for all of the obvious reasons), but they wouldn't have been able to get him in until sometime in June, so we'll deal with it. I guess there will be lots of popsicles eaten at our house that day since I'm sure Ethan will be wanting them too (I can hear it now, "Preston has a popsicle, I want one too").

We think of and pray for you all often! Hang in there!

Hey guys!
Glad to hear that Caden is mostly better...man does he ever like to keep you on your toes!! Let us know how the genetics appt went (if it was anything other than long and boring : ) ). It is nice in a way that we have educated ourselves about NF so much that the Dr's don't feel the need to, although it would be really nice if they could come up with some great new miracle pill to take it all away, wouldn't it?

Thanks so much Kara for your kind words and request for prayers for Preston and our family. We are still waiting for the phone to ring with our MRI appt...if I don't hear by tomorrow I think I'll call the opth back.

Hey guys! Just checking in to see how Caden's doing today - hopefully much better than the weekend!!

We had P's eye appt this morning and got some yucky news...the good part is that his sight remains the same (20/30 R and 20/40 L), but the Dr noticed a change in the nerve, so we are waiting for a call to have his MRI now instead of in August. I have to say that I am a bit scared (for the 1st time - I think), but will keep trusting God to get us through even if there is bad news...

We're praying for you guys and I'll check back in later today to see how Caden is doing.

Hey Kara- -I'm here. . .always here. Glad that Caden did better than you had hoped and came home in good spirits. Was thinking earlier this week that Katsie will be having General Anesthesia for the 20th time when she has scans this round. Almost seems impossible. I'll be anxiously waiting to hear what the Neuro says about the MRI. Kristin said earlier this week that we're in some sort of parallel univerise and I say, "Thank GOD for that." That there are other families walking the path along this miserable disease with us- -we're NEVER alone. Remember that. So glad you got your invite- -can't wait to see you there. Hello Caden and Kara!
It's great to see that you got some of the news you deserved! We'll keep praying for those MRI results and for the house situation too - you are right though, God must have something WAY better for you!

I loved the post-MRI popsicle story. It is so sad, (yet funny to those of us who have to live it) to see the kids post sedation. Preston used to shock the nurses too by waking up when they were pulling him out of the machine, now he is totally out of commission for almost 24 hrs! You would think I might be happy to have the break, but he doesn't sleep it off, he is awake and in a drunken stupor for much of the time - it's not fun treating a 5 yr old as if they are just learning to walk especially when they just don't "get it". P's next scan isn't until August - now that I said that I realize that is only a few months away...ugh.

We will keep on praying!!

Hey Caden....be good for your mommy, ok? Oh, and tell her you want to take a trip to Michigan to meet Preston.

Hi to my precious kids! So glad for the good news on Caden's optic evaluation. He didn't get good "vision genes" to begin with, so we won't be surprised if he has some vision issues in the future, but we certainly don't want the NF complications in addition to that! So WOO HOO for the good report. We're believing God for the same kind of report on his MRI! I can verify that he was pretty hysterical waking up from the procedure! You would have thought he was a drunk four-year-old! He had us laughing, which made the situation a lot less stressful.

Kara, I'm trusting God for the right house for you. God knows where you are supposed to be and He will put you in the right place at the right time. I love you.

Yes Kara, I did see your post on the BB regarding the Tea Party. I had been in touch with Melissa already and P's pic is going out in the mail today (if it stops raining) or tomorrow.

The Buddy Bear sounds like a really neat and fun thing. I saw it on the BB this morning and will have to check it out!

Hope you have a good week full of GREAT news!!

Caden, I am so sorry about your owie tonight. I think we got a little carried away in our play. I hope the bandaid stops bothering you and the booboo doesn't hurt your eye! I love you so much buddy! I know these next few weeks are going to be tough, but you are so brave and you can handle them! I love you to the moon and back!

Wow, this is a really neat page! I never knew the details of Caden's diagnosis, but this is a really good way to get the information out. I will keep Caden and your family in my prayers. You are strong to handle such a large situation at such a young age. I admire your strength, love you guys!

Hello Kara and Caden!
We just stopped by to say "hi" and to tell you about our experience at the zoo today. I discovered an area of the zoo that I had never seen before (I have no idea how I missed it!!) and it was an area for gorillas, apes and monkeys! You will be happy to know we had our very own awesome experience with them! The ape (a huge one) was sitting right against the glass so we were literally an inch or two away from him for about 10 minutes. He either had a tummy issue or they have some strange digestive system, but he got up and lost his lunch in his hands 3 times...then ate it! Sorry to be gross, but have you ever seen that? We also saw a gorilla who came right up to the glass, put his hand up over his eyes (to block the glare?) and then put his hand flat on the glass and slapped the glass at the kids! It was really cool!! I think I've found our new favorite place at the zoo. Unfortunately, Preston was tired (or bored) so he didn't get as excited as I thought he would. Anyway, it made me think of you. We hope you all have an enjoyable weekend!
You remain in our prayers!

Hi Kara! I know it has been a long time, but I wanted you to know that I stopped in to look at your page. Mammer is always going on and on about you and Caden. She glows with pride when she talks about you. Caden sounds like an amazing boy. I hope I get the chance to meet him someday!! I found you on myspace, and I've sent you an add. Maybe we can keep in touch after all these years. I would love that!! Always know that you and Caden are in my thoughts and prayers. I have a special needs daughter myself, so I know the ups and downs you go through as a parent. It's always nice to know you aren't alone, even though you would never wish that kind of pain on anyone!!

Love,
Your Cousin,
Melissa

Hi Kara-
I am so sorry to hear about your horrible day. We will continue to keep you all in our prayers! The ENT appt sure does sound frustrating and as far as insurance goes, when they cover they are the best and when they don't - GRRRRR.

I know the behavorial stuff can be SO difficult. Our "secret" -or turning point- for Preston was just after we went through an in-patient feeding program and got him eating a more normal diet. He also works really well with choices and with rewards for making good choices. I really feel for you as the "quirks" are so hard to get past (and to live a "normal" daily life with), again, we will be praying for you all!

Hello Caden and Kara!
We're glad to hear that you were kept safe through the storms! Hoping for some nicer weather for you (and us too)!

It seems that in every journal another way that Caden and Preston are alike is revealed! This time it is with the tubes. Preston has had his since October 2003 and they are still just sitting in the canal, not doing their job...and we're just waiting for them to come out!

We'll be praying for you as your approach Caden's MRI, I know that feeling all to well. Just give all your fears and worries to God and He'll get you through.

I'm not too sure about your visit with the tarantulas~EEEKK! I think we'll stick with the monkeys and gorillas! : ) Maybe Caden won't mind the flies so much anymore.

We're praying for you!!

Hi Caden,
It is fun to find another JJ Yeley fan who also has NF. It was a bummer that his car was wrecked in the first lap of the race today. Next week he will hopefully be in here in Phoenix. It is his home town.

Saying a prayer that all goes well with your upcoming dr. visits. I have also said thank you to God for keeping your family safe during that F2 storm. We don't get anything like that where I live in Arizona.

Give your mom a big hug. She loves you so very much. How do I know??? I come to your site and read what she writes in your journal.

Hi guys:) We used to live in Wichita Falls when I was little and we had snow a couple of times, it's definitely weird to have snow somewhere that everyone thinks of as hot and sunny! It must've made for a pretty magical weekend:) My littlest boy gave me some of his Easter eggs this year with the promise that they'd hatch into penguins, it might be a long wait!! I totally recognize your (Kara's) concern about knowing when Caden is in pain or showing symptoms, it's a major issue when you've got a kidlet who doesn't respond "normally" to pain or discomfort. Lia's older brother walked around with a "green stick" fracture of both lower arm bones for several days before we realized there was a problem because he never said a word. It was winter and he was wearing long sleeves all the time so I didn't notice the huge lump on his arm!!!! I'm glad your doctor recognized that concern and is taking it seriously. Thank you for signing Lia's guest book, she gets so delighted when I read her emails to her:) www.caringbridge.org/visit/julialangley

Hey Caden and Kara!
Glad to hear you had a Happy Easter (snow and all)! We've had our share of funky weather here too. It seems like spring is never gonna get here. Charlotte's Web was a hit at our house this Easter too -- we saw it in the theatre as a NF fundraiser so it has some extra special meaning! Yup, I think we may have to add Texas on to our list of places to visit. I bet the animals recognize you all since you're there so often ~ maybe that's why they are so playful with you!! We're keeping you in our prayers!

Hey!
I missed you guys on Easter. It's been such a wonderful family tradition to spend Easter together over the years. It just wasn't the same without you.

So excited that Caden enjoyed the day despite the snow (we got some here, too!), and we are continuing to pray! Thank the Lord for a wonderful surgery report and the MRI on the books after the neuro appointment.

Much love,

Hey Caden! So happy to hear the great news! We're praying for your visit next week. Nothing but good news, that's what we're counting on. Katsie sends an Easter hug to you too, and she says, "Share some chocolate with your Mama!!" Kara, drop by Katsie's site- -those feelings you wrote about in Katsie's guestbook- -the topic of today's journal entry. You'll be proud to know that I didn't eat a single peanut M&M while I was typing that entry. And there are some new pics. Only 7 1/2 weeks until our tea party- -save the date!! :)

Hey Caden!
We went to the zoo early last week and tried to "play" with the monkeys like you got to, but to no avail!! After I told Preston what you did with them he really wanted to try too! Maybe next time.
Kara - it is so funny, Preston and Caden are a lot alike (as you said) and in the areas they aren't alike, Caden is a lot like my youngest Ethan. So, your Caden is like my 2 boys smashed together! What fun!!
Don't worry about the plates, if you come across them in the move that's great, but if not that is okay too.
We are keeping you in our prayers!
Have a very HAPPY EASTER!

Caden and Kara, thank you for stopping by to visit us on our page:) I notice that you share a favorite with me, I have a HUGE collection of penguins, I'll have to find you some that I can share with you! (In fact my name on the NF board is an shortened version of Mama Penguin!) I hope you're enjoying your new shorter cast, I bet it's nice as the weather is warming up to have a little less there to heat you up! The increased freedom is probably nice too! Keep growing bone and keep surprising your docs with how much you can do:)

My name is Jenna and I came across Caden's site. He is an inspiration to all. I was diagnosed at three mths with having a very severe and rare bone disease. I see you are from the DFW area. Great. I live in Irving. Also glad to see you have the Texas NF Foundation for a link. When I was from 2 -6, I spent time going in and out of the Scottish Rite Hospital and my dad was in the military, at Brooks Army Hospital in San Antonio. I am active with the Texas NF Foundation, the main office is in Irving. Each year in September, there is a family camp that meet over a weekend. I think this be great for you all to come. Many families with children attend. Coming up in May, not sure which city will be at, they rotate from Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, maybe Austin, will be a Symposium/conference on NF. Anyway, hope to see you at one of the events. On the web link of the Texas NF Foundation, you will see a link to 14 Stories, of others with NF. I am in that book. Look for me, I am the one with the camera.

Hi Kara & Caden!
Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. Camden just had his pseudoarthrosis surgery last week. I know how nervous you must be getting. Remember Psalm 46, "Be still and know that I am God." Come check our site for pics and info on his surgery. And please email me - I'll be glad to share with you and help you through this. By the way, Camden did great with the surgery! :)

Well Buddy, since I want other people to sign this, I guess I should as well. I am so proud of the courageous, smart, funny boy you've become. You are so good about looking at things from a different way. You find a new way to make me smile and laugh every day. Just today, I unbuckled your seatbelt for you and you said thank you momma and then gave me your sweet smile and said you're a cute momma. I don't think you knew what it meant, but the way you said it was so sweet and cute and funny. I love you so much!!!

Hey Cara...it's 3 am...can't sleep...got on the computer and decided to read the latest. You need to tell the hilarious story of Caden's comment on last (or one of the last) visits to the ER....to your mom: In grabbing her hand..."You sit on bed and be little boy....I be Gam". I have laughed so hard over that.
Keep your chin up....God is in control...and He is good .....ALL THE TIME! We just don't see it in some of the yucky stuff.
Love you all so much....Diane

Kara and Caden-
I just found your site from the ctf bboard. Just wanted to encourage you and praise God for the miracle of little Caden! My little boy, Camden, is 19 months and has nf1 and pseudoarthrosis as well. We've taken him to the alter so many times. But I know that even if the Lord doesn't heal Camden's leg, he still has incredible plans for his life and although they may difficult to go through, I know that God's plans are to give us hope and a future. Isn't it encouraging to know that he loves and has a plan for our little ones? Keep trusting Jesus and blessings to you!

Hi, Kara,
YOU ARE A GREAT MOM!! I know it's intensely frustrating when the docs roll their eyes at a Mom Who Knows Best, but you know, that's our job, isn't it? My Genna has NF1 like Caden...while our ped was good, our neurologist somehow missed a massive brain tumor...but now we have wonderful docs in Philadelphia who work with our pediatrician...so hang in there, I'll pray things get better.

And congrats to Caden on the trike! I hope to get something like that for Genna, if we can manage it. What a proud mom moment...

Hang in there--I hope your hospital switch goes smoothly. Maybe you could give your pediatrician some helpful informative handouts on NF? (or is that too sniggy?) : )

Well, best to you and your precious boy!

best, Kristin, Genna's mom (www.caringbridge.org/nj/gennahenna) <thecams@earthlink.net>

Hi Caden's momma,
I know things look dim right now and it is difficult. I live in a major medical community with a huge teaching hospital, but we still take our son, Jesse, out of state for his medical care. I've been in frustrating situations with doctors who know little about NF but are too proud to say so. One ortho offered to aspirate Jesse's plexi tumor on his ankle! Can you believe it? I will pray that things turn around for you and Caden. Just be as strong as you can be, keep trying, keep going, it sounds like you are all he's got, so it's got to be you! Just remember, you were hand picked for this job, so God knew you could do it.
Come and visit Jesse's caringbridge site sometime. /visit/jessesorman

Hey, Kara....glad to hear that my little buddy is doing good! Pray the potty training has progressed even more. You know....people are reading this and not having the chance to meet Caden. When you say how funny he is, they have no clue! His humor is such a delight....even though there is a struggle to get things out, perhaps....you just watch him and see those wheels clicking in his mind and here comes a funny! What a joy he is! God is good....all the time! Love you guys and hope to see you soon.

Karen,

I came across your website through my daughter Katelyn's webpage guestbook. You signed it today. I to believe in miracles and think that it is absolutly wonderful the miracle GOD has performed in Caden's life. It is so good to know that he is wearing his brace without getting upset. It was really hard to get Katelyn to use her walker and to wear her feet braces with pleasure. Well, I'm adding another caringbridge website to my list of many to keep up with. Glad to meet you.

I want to say thank you for visiting our Bethany's web site and your uplifting message. I sat here reading a few of the other entries and think to myself it is so hard to believe that there are othere people out there who are going thru the same or very similar problems. You learn so much when something like this happens in your life. Who would have thought that we would become nurses without having to pay for all the schooling? (I guess we are paying in a different way) But isn't it great to have God on your side! I don't think that any of us could have made it this far without Him. I stop and think about those people who don't know our God and wonder how it is that they can make it without Him. We are touched by so many new friends through our web site but not a lot of them know just what it is that we go through. Know that we will keep you and your family in our prayers. I attend two different small groups each week and I will add your names on our prayer lists. May the Lord be with you through out your trials and may you always know that he is with you.
