WOW!! I have a lot to update you all on.........

We all had a great Thanksgiving in New Mexico. It was nice and relaxing, and we had SNOW!! It made it a beautiful trip! All the girls got up early Friday morning to go shopping and the guys spent all their free time quail hunting. We managed to find a little time on Friday to get Caden's pictures made in Hobbs. I will try to get a few of them on here sometime soon. Some of them turned out really cute!

Yesterday was Caden's 1st day of SCHOOL! He started PPCD (Preschool Programs for Children w/Disabilities) at one of the elementaries in San Angelo. He only goes from 8 am to 11 am, then he goes back to daycare for the afternoons. He is with the best PPCD teacher in town! Jeremy and I took him yesterday, for his first day, but this morning.......the school bus came and got him! I thought I was going to have a panic attack! I can't believe he's getting so big, yet he still looks so little compared to the bus! He had a wonderful time yesterday and his teacher sent me pictures of all the things they did. He was so worn out that he took a 2 hour nap yesterday afternoon at daycare! He doesn't take a nap at daycare much anymore, so he must have been tired! PPCD will be so good for him! I will add the pictures later because my computer is blocking my photobucket site.

The Lady Hawks' basketball team traveled to Shallowater this past weekend for a tournament. They won all three of their games, including the Championship game against Shallowater.....in their own gym!! It was a tough game, but the girls pulled it out!

I have to ask you all to say extra prayers each day for all the little ones who are battling mito and their families, expecially the Kilbride family. They lost their son, Kirkland, who was 6, a couple of days ago. Last week we lost 2 other mito children. The week before that, it was 2 others. I don't know what is going on, but I swear, I open my email almost every day lately, and have to read about someone losing their child to mito. I just want to SCREAM my head off! We need to find a CURE!!! Then I want to go get Caden from school and and run away to a land free of mitochondrial diseases. I know Caden doesn't look sick, but this stupid disease keeps him from being able to do so many things I know he would love to do! It's not fair! Sorry you guys, it's been a bad day. I try to stay so positive and upbeat about everything, but sometimes it just all piles up and I lose it. Everyone hug your kiddos extra hard and long tonight!

Thank you to everyone who come here and checks up on our Little Man! I am thinking about changing this site over to the new Caringbridge format. The 2 main reasons I would change it would be because the new format holds more pictures for you all to see, and you all can sign up to get an email when I update his site, so you would know for sure when it's been updated. If I change it over, I will post it on this site to redirect you to the new one. We love you all!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Big School Boy

Hello everyone! We are all doing really well. Caden has been great!! (knock on wood!!!) He is his same ole silly self. He can still scoot all over the living room floor before you can bat an eye. His Halloween was really good and he was adorable in his Batman suit. We even got a picture of him with his mask on, smiling! He wasn't too fond of the mask! I hope you all enjoy it!

Since I left you all last time, the Lady Hawks and Hawks Cross-Country teams both won Regionals! Then the Lady Hawks went on to win STATE!!!!! It was soooo awesome! They have placed 2nd in state the last 2 years, and are finally STATE CHAMPIONS!!! The guys had a runner go down in the race, but they still got 3rd in State, which is still sooooo awesome! I have a Regional picture here at school, but all the state pics are at hiome. I will have to get one to put on here!

Regional Champions

Of course basketball started a few hours after the State CC meet! Tonight will be the girls' 7th game in 2 weeks, and they are 6-0 right now. By tomorrow night, they will have played 8 games in 11 days! Hopefully we can pull out another win tonight and tomorrow night, and they will be 8-0!

After the basketball game tomorrow night in Coahoma, we are headed to New Mexico for a big Thanksgiving! I can't wait to get out of school tomorrow and get AWAY!!! San Angelo schools don't even have school today or tomorrow.....Lucky Ducks! Oh well, I guess we will have 2 days sometime when we don't have school and they do! While we are in NM, we have an appointment to get Caden's picture taken with the photographer who took the family one you see on the website. She also took the awesome ones I used to have on here of Caden w/Santa. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

I guess that is about all for now. I just wanted you all to know Caden is doing well and being silly, like always. I hope everyone takes some time to think of all the people and things they are thankful for this holiday season. I know we have so many blessings in our lives, and Caden is the biggest one of them all! Every day we have him in our lives, he blesses us somehow. I hope he has blessed your lives too!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and the biggest blessing of all.....Caden

Caden is doing sooooo much better!!! His spots in his mouth were short-lived, THANK GOODNESS!!! But the spots on his ears lasted longer. In fact, you can still see where they were, but basically, they are healed! He is back to his crazy self! His new thing is scooting himself all over the living room floor after a ball he got for his birthday from Makensie. He LOVES it!!! He gets SOOOOO mad when it's out of his reach, or you pick him up from the floor. He is a typical 4 year old in that aspect, I guess! All he thinks he has time for is PLAY! He doesn't want to stop for anything......especially eating! He's back to eating pretty well after the spots in his mouth.

I don't know if I have told this on his website or not, but his new thing to "say" is I Love You! I will say, "Caden, can you say I?" And he will eventually say, "Ah." Then I will say, "Caden can you say Love?" And he will say, "Uv." And I will say, "You?" And he will say, "Oooo." So, that is his "I love you!" It's so sweet! Then the other day Jeremy asked him if he loved his mommy, and he shook his head YES! Then I asked him if he loved daddy, and he shook his head Yes!

We are 9 weeks into school, and it is flying by so quickly! It always does, so I don't know why I am surprised. The Lady Hawks won their 10th district title in cross-country on Monday!!! The Hawks also won, but I don't know how many in a row it is for them. Actually the JV and Varsity won all 4 divisions of the district CC meet! They will be running in the Regional CC Meet in Lubbock next weekend, and if they do well there (top 3 teams), then they will get to go to State!!! (cross your fingers!)
~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks Cross-Country!!~*~

The football guys have a BIG game tonight against Ballinger.
~*~Good Luck Hawks! Beat Ballinger!!~*~

We are getting ready for Halloween. Caden is going to be Batman this year. I will get some pictures as soon as he wears his costume!!

I hope you are all doing well! It is finally a little like Fall around here, so the temps are down in the 70's! Thanks for checking in on the Little Man! We love you all and appreciate all you support!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and Mr. Independent

Caden's Birthday Slideshow

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Everyone say a little prayer for Caden. He started running fever on Friday afternoon, and I was half way to Austin! Jeremy went to get him from daycare and noticed some sores in his mouth. When Jeremy took him to the doctor on Saturday, the doc said it was Herpetic Gingivostomatitis. Yeah....I can't say it either! Anyways, he gave him some antiviral medicine. Today, there are red spots on his ears now. They said to just watch him closely and that the stuff on his ears is probably viral too. Who knows where he picked this up. Maybe at therapy, because I don't think it was at daycare. His fever is gone today, but he is still having a hard time drinking and eating like normal because of the sores in his mouth. He is much better today than he was yesterday!

Besides this, he's been doing well and he's coping with being a 4 year old really well!!!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and Mr. Sickly

Click here to view the video montage "The Many Faces of Mito" that Leslie has been working so hard to put together to show at UMDF fundraisers. It's a tear jerker, but it's awesome and informative. Then there is a great song at the end. Caden's picture comes up about 6.5 min. into the slideshow. It's about 11 min. total.

Monday~~
I know some of you probably want to kill me by now, so I apologize for not updating in so long. It proved to be a very busy August up till school started, then I have had NO time for anything extra since school started. I had to make myself stay in here during lunch for a little bit to finish this update.

I am sure you all figured out that Caden is doing well. If there had been anything bad to report, I would have let you guys know before now. He is eating like a horse! He’s over 25 lbs. now......Yeah!!!! He is also right at 34 in. tall. He is “talking” up a storm everyday. There aren’t any new words really, but lots of the old stand-bys. He is getting louder as he gets older. When he “talks” he is basically screaming! It’s pretty cute unless you are in a restaurant or something! He is still scooting all over the living room, and if you don’t keep your eye on him, he’ll be under the TV stand before you bat your eye! He had a healthy summer until the night before Jeremy and I had to go back to work when he mysteriously ran fever! It only lasted that night, and my mom came and kept him the next day for us..........I think it was in protest of school starting!!! He’s been great ever since! (knock on wood) I’ll get some recent pics and get them on here as soon as I can. He’s cuter than EVER!!! They are taking September off from horseback riding so they can build some pens and stuff, but they will start back in October with a 6-week course that Caden will be in. He loves it!!!

Speaking of October..........CAN YOU BELIEVE CADEN WILL BE 4 ON OCT??? It flies by so quickly. We are just having a little party at daycare for all his buddies, and then we will have a family party. It’s low-key this year after the disaster last year when he ended up sick and we had to cancel everything.

We found a WONDERFUL young lady to pick him up and take him to PT/OT for us during the week. She is very sweet and sooooo responsible. Caden had a rough spell the first couple of days that she took him to therapy, but after that, he’s been great and seems to love her. I don’t even think it was her.........he was just adjusting to everything!

He’s moved up to the 4 yr. old classroom at daycare. This is giving Miss Veronica more time with him than ever before! Jeremy and I were a little worried at first, but it is working our really well! He’s even started taking his naps at daycare again!!! I think we will be sending him to school (PPCD) when school starts next year. He will go in town to SAISD and this will be a HUGE step for all of us, so you might start praying now!!!

We had a very busy summer and we are off to a very busy school year. Cross-country season is going really well. The girls’ and guys’ teams are strong this year and they have both won their first 2 meets. They will run this weekend right here in town at ASU by Colt’s Stadium.

~*~ Good Luck Lady Hawks and Hawks!! Runn Hard!!~*~

My classes are full of great kids again this year. I am really enjoying all my students!

I guess that is all. This is the abridged version of the last few months. We really appreciate everyone continuing to check on Caden and all of us to spite my short comings in the update category. I promise to do better!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Man

Can you believe it's already JULY??? Man, time really flies by during the summer!! I am sure you have all been patiently awaiting the pictures of Caden riding, so I am finally posting them. He's only gotten to ride once because of this crazy, RAINY weather we are having in Texas. I have never seen a summer like this before. Of course they can't ride in the arena when it's muddy or raining. He really did LOVE riding the horse! I thought he was going to fall asleep because he was so relaxed. All the helmets were way too big for him, so he doesn't have one on this time. We have to get him a smaller one, but since he had so many people helping him, we figured he'd be okay without one!

Here, he's just petting "Annie"

Now, for the riding! He LOVED it!

Eventually, he started lifting up his head a little....

Caden is doing great! (knock on wood!) He's really working on his strength and we have noticed a difference lately in his head control and all. He's really a happy camper lately! Here are some pictures from today when he was "working out"!!!

He looks a little "ticked off" at me, doesn't he??? Grrrrr.....

Then he got happier..........

We are getting ready to go to my sister's house for the 4th of July. We will head out on Tuesday and come home on Thursday. We always celebrate at her house. She has a nice pool and a new hot tub!! It should be a blast!

The week after the 4th, Jeremy and I will be heading for Austin for a couple of days of coaching school, then we will go from Austin to San Marcus for our little lake getaway with all of Jeremy college buddies and their wives. Jerry and Sharon will be coming to our house to keep Caden for us while we are gone. It will be a nice little getaway!

I guess that is all for now. Please pray for all the Texans who have been flooded or even had their houses washed away by all the rain........mainly the people in Marble Falls, TX. I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July!!!

Jeremy, Vicki, and the Cowboy

Well, last Friday, Caden only got to meet and pet the horses, so there was no riding yet. Then he was supposed to get to actually ride for the first time this morning, but we had thunderstorms early this morning, so it got cancelled. They will try to get it done sometime this week or next week. Right now he's on a every-other-week schedule.......Wednesdays @ 10:00 am. Hopefully he'll get to ride soon. We are so excited!!!

My mom and dad came down for the riding session on Friday, but he didn't really ride. Good thing because their alarm didn't go off and they were late! My dad made me an awesome tablee for the extra bedroom. It's a dressing table. He's an amazing carpenter/furniture maker. I try to get him to go into business, but he just does craft shows mostly.

Caden is doing well. Nothing too much to report at this time........usually that is a good thing! No sppointments or anything until next month. There are lots of moms posting information on my Mito Yahoo group from the UMDF Symposium that we missed this year. It sounds like it was a good conference. I'll post anything that sounds interesting or promising as soon as I can sort through all the information.

We survived the Team Camp this weekend.......all 48 games! The girls played really well and only lost 1 out of 6 games. It was a LONG 2 days!!

Sunday we went to my parent's house for Father's Day. We had a nice lunch and came home late that afternoon. Caden and I went to a place here in town called the Pottery Ranch to make Jeremy's Father's Day gift. You go in and pick your piece of pottery, then you paint it yourself, and they fire it for you. We were a day late for them to guarantee it for Father's Day, but they were going to try to get it done. Well, they did indeed get it done, so we had it to give to him!!! It's just an 8 inch tile that we painted green, then we put a blue and red porder around the outside, then Caden painted red squiggles and dots all over it. Then we put his handprint in the middle in black and wrote on it in black. It turned out amazing!! I think it's Jeremy's prized possession! I'll try to get a picture of it on here.

Jeremy's dad and stepmom stopped by on their way back to NM from Dallas where they had picked up Jadyn, one of the other grandsons. He flew into Dallas from Wisconsin and will spend the month in NM. I'll post some cute pics of him and Caden as soon as I get them. They spent Friday night with us and headed back to NM on Saturday.

I guess that is about all for now. Thanks for stopping by to check on us. Summer is just as busy as school time so far. Maybe it will slow down soon!

It's HUMP DAY! Have a good week and weekend!
Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Little Man

Tuesday~~~
Today was Caden's appointment with his ENT to check his ears from the last ear infections. His left ear looks great, but the tube from his right ear is out. It's actually still in his ear canal, but it's not still in the ear drum where it can do it's job. This has caused there to still be fluid behind his right ear drum, but it's not red, so we know the infection is gone. Now, it's just a matter of waiting to see if the fluid clears up also. We have to go back in a month to get it checked. Dr. Walvord said we weren't going to jump to conclusions about him needing to replace the tube. We will see if he starts having more infections before we know.

That is all we had going today. Friday morning will be Caden's first experience on the horses. I hope he loves it as much as I think he will. It's more of an introductory session more than anything.

Friday and Saturday, Jeremy has a team camp going on and he will have 48 basketball games in those 2 days!!! That's A LOT of basketball.

Happy Father's Day to Jeremy, my dad, and Jeremy's dad!!!
I hope all the other great dads out there have a Happy Father's Day on Sunday!!

Friday~~~
Sorry for the lack of updates..........we are all alive, we are all doing well, and we are all very busy!! You'd think we'd have a break since it's officially summer, but NO, we are as busy as ever, it's just a different busy! Summer basketball is in full swing, and we finished up basketball camp yesterday. We had 104 campers from 3rd grade to 9th grade! It was a long 4 days, but all the girls did great and seemed to learn a lot. We also have Summer League basketball every Monday and Thursday night from 6:00-10:00. I had to ref 2 of the games last night and it just about killed me!!! I am in TERRIBLE shape!

Caden is doing really well! He had a little bout with pink eye, then double ear infections, so we had eye drops, ear drops, and antibiotics (along with all his other meds) going all at once. But, he seems to have made a speedy recovery from all of that, and is back to his silly self. Thankfully, none of us got the pink eye, and it didn't even go to his other eye! He has an appointment with the ENT on Tuesday to make sure his ears are all cleared up.

He is still scooting around all over the place. He can go all over the living room by kicking his legs or rolling around. He's not doing a lot of new things, but he's so funny! When you hold him in your lap, he squirms around until you let him get himself in the floor, then he just goes nuts with laughter! I guess he thinks he's accomplished his goal, and he loves it! He'll be playinng on his mat, and he'll kick both legs as hard as he can, and he thinks that is the funniest thing ever!

He stayed at home with Jeremy all last Friday and Saturday while I went to Canton with my family. They had a blast while I was gone, but Caden was all smiles when I got home. The trip was good but tiring.

I have a couple of silly pictures from a couple of weeks ago when Jerry and Sharon were here visiting. One is of Caden upside-down........his FAVORITE position to be in! He'd be a bat if we'd let him! The other one is of him sitting in the floor (leaning against my legs) after he squirmed his was out of my lap. He's soooo proud of himself! The third one is of Caden feeling sorry for Tigger who was put in "laundrybasket jail"!!!

Mosaic is the BEST daycare ever!! They just added therapudic horseback riding, and they are starting it next Friday. If you live around San Angelo, it's just like Sonrisas, and Caden should benefit so much from it. Friday will just be an introductory session, so he'll just be petting and brushing the horse, but then he'll get to ride after that. They are either going to do it weekly or every other week. It's so exciting!

We don't have a lot planned anytime soon. Just lots of basketball this month and then we will have a little summer after that!

Jeremy is gone to school right now because Coach Joe Lombard from Canyon is putting on a basketball camp for our older girls. See, UIL rules say that Jeremy (their coach) can't work with the girls that are going into the 10th - 12th grades during the summer, so he is fortunate enough for Coach Lombard to come work with the girls. Coach Lombard has won 13 state titles! Canyon is a powerhouse in basketball because of him and his athletes.

Last night at the Summer League game, one of our high school girls was sitting with Caden while I was reffing and Jeremy was running the clock, and she spiked his hair into a mohawk! It was the cutest thing ever! She got a few pictures of him, and I will put them on here when I get them.

Here are some more pictures I just got off the camera. Some are from all the way back at Easter with his yellow and green Easter chicks. He liked them pretty much! One is tummy-time, and the rest are just cute!

Thanks for continuing to check on the Little Man, even though I have done a terrible job of updating lately. I will try to do a better job. I hope you all know that if there was anything bad to report, I'd definitely get on here and let you all know. Thank God there isn't a reason for me to get on here!!! Thanks for your love and concern!

Monday, April 30, 2007 11:31 AM CDT

Once again, I have to begin with an apology for not updating sooner. Once again, no news is good news! I have just been so busy, it seems, that even when I get on the computer, it's for something else that HAS to be done.

Caden is doing really well! He's just as silly as ever! He is still doing all his old tricks, and there isn't anything new to report really. There are times where he says something that we think is a word, so we go with it. But nothing really consistant.....but, that's how it used to be with "ma" and it comes all the time. I would say we are hearing "da" more often though. His hair is getting so long right now, he's due a hair cut.....but, it always turns out to be a RODEO, so I put it off as long as possible! I will have to do it in the next few days. I'll try to get a before and after picture. I do have some pictures of him from Easter, and some others that I need to get off the camera and get on here. Maybe I can get that done sometime tomorrow. I'll try my best!

He and I got to spend a couple of nights at my parents this past weekend during the Regional track meet. It is in Abilene and they live about 45 min. from there, so we stayed there while Jeremy, Coach Halfmann, and all the girls stayed in Abilene. It was a good weekend!

After winning both team titles at the District meet, the Hawks and Lady Hawks advanced several guys and girls to the Regional meet in Abilene this weekend. The Hawks and Lady Hawks mile relays (4X400)won the Regional meet and get to go to State, along with one of the girls' relay legs (Sara) in the 400m., and another girl (Shalynn) in the pole vault, and one of the boys' relay legs (Brian) in the 300m. hurdles. It should be a great day! The State track meet is next weekend, May 11-12, in Austin.

This weekend Tami, my good friend and OAP director, and I are going to Austin to watch the plays that made it to State. I hope we get some good ideas for next year. We have been reading lots of plays trying to find the best one that will go far next year! Maybe this time next year I will be updating that we are taking our play to State!! We will be gone part of Thursday-Sunday. Caden gets to stay with my mom and dad because Jeremy has a basketball clinic that weekend in San Antonio. Everyone gets to go on vacation! I am excited!

Caden doesn't have anything scheduled anytime soon. We are going to be making an appointment for this summer with the neurologist for a check-up. Jeremy and I wanted to go to San Diego this summer for the UMDF mitochondrial conference, but I don't think we can swing it this year. We really enjoyed it last year, and hopefully we can make it back next year. I have looked and a lot of the siminars are the same as last year, so that made me feel a little better!

I guess that is about all for this update. I will be in the process of changing the background and all too. I hope you all have a fantastic week!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Silly

Hello Everyone! I hope this update finds you all doing well! We are all great! (knock on wood!)

Caden is as big a stinker as he was last time I updated! He's saying "DA" more, and Miss Veronica and his vision therapist both report that he said "yellow" and "red"!! His allergies have been bothering him somewhat, despite the allergy drops. The pollen is covering everything in a green, powdery film. I am surprised it's not affecting him more than it is. He hasn't wanted his food for dinner the last 2 nights, but that's just him. He'll be back to eating up a storm in a few days. We took him for a walk yesterday and swung him in his swing, and he really liked that!

Our One Act Play didn't advance, but it was a really good play and lots of people who saw it (and the play that beat us) said we should have gotten to go on. But it is what it is! We are already looking for a play for next year!

Spring is such a busy time for all of us. The kids at school are barely there because of all the activities they have going on. Between ag judging teams, tennis, track, UIL, baseball, softball, and other field trips.....it doesn't leave much time for class! It keeps us busy too! We have LOTS of rain the last week, and some storms that brought hail also. The rain was great, but not the hail! Thankfully, Jeremy had gone into San Angelo with our car, and the hail was just out here at Wall......so, no damage!

I guess that is about all for today. I hope you are all doing well. Please pray that Brandon Clark gets good results from his tests to see if his cancer treatment worked. Please also pray that Caden continues to be well!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Little Man

Monday~~
I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently for some new pictures of our little WILD man, so here you go!!! The first one is so funny! I sat him up in the recliner and he got all this static electricity in his hair, and it stood STRAIGHT up!

These are just him being silly before his bathtime tonight!

Trying to be shy.....

Warming up a little.......

Warmer.........

Finally a BIG smile...........

Wednesday~~
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Life has been REALLY busy! But as always, no news is good news!

Caden is doing really well right now! He is eating great and being his adorable self. He still calls me "ma" and has spit out a few "da's" for Jeremy too. He has told Ms. Veronica NO very emphatically several times at school. When he is on his tummy, he tries really hard to do this sort of army crawl type thing. He doesn't get very far with it right now, but he's trying. He gets one arm out in front of him, and pulls one leg up under him, and tries to pull/scoot himself forward! He only does it a few times, before he's ready to flip back over to his back, but it's a START! He continues to LOVE soemone holding him up so he can "walk", but once you start, you better be in for the long haul, because he throws a FIT when you try to stop! He had a little bout with fever and congestion a couple of weeks ago, but since then he seems to feel good. (knock on wood!) He discovered he really likes lemon pudding!

We are enjoying our Spring Break this week! We spent some time in New Mexico with Jeremy's family until yesterday, and then came home. We started getting some spring cleaning done today and will continue that for the rest of the week.

Jeremy and I are doing well also. Spring seems to have arrived here and the weather has been nice! We even got a little sunburned yesterday while watching a softball game! We got some much needed rain last night, and some while we were gone to NM.

The One Act Play that I am helping direct is performing for the public tomorrow night at the theater at Angelo State University. If any of you would like to come watch, it's in the Administration building off of Ave. N, and it's FREE!! It's a really good play! We have our REAL performance, to see if we advance, next Thursday in Ballinger!

I guess that is about all for tonight. I hope you are all having a GREAT week! Go out and get some sunshine!

Hugs & Love,

Well, I have done it again. I've kept you all waiting way too long for an update. I hope you al know that if something bad were going on, I'd let you all know, so that just means things have been going well.

Caden is doing well. He is getting over the congestion that he had. Ms. Veronica, his one-on-one aide, and his speech therapist have taken pictures of him doing each of the things he does throughout the day, like being in his stander, eating, coloring, swinging outside, etc.... They have put them on posterboard and laminated them. Veronica lets him choose what he wants to do during the day. Then he has a chart on which Veronica puts the pictures of what he did. Then they send the pictures home with him so we can tak about what all he did that day. When we hold the pictures up in front of him and ask him about them, he shakes his head YES or NO about them!!! It's so exciting!!! He still calls me MA all the time. He has been eating well and being his payful self and has been watching LOTS of Lady Hawk basketball!!!

The Lady Hawks finished 2nd in district and have since beaten Haskell in the Bi-District game, and Big Lake in the Area game. They will play Merkel in Big Spring on Wednesday night. We have to play on Wednesday because of the TAKS test that we have on Tuesday at school. Wednesday is going to be a HUGE game for the girls! Merkel will be a tough opponent.
*~*Good Luck Lady Hawks!! Beat Merkel!!*~*

The Hawks won their last game to throw them into a 3-way tie for 3rd place in district. So, they beat Bangs last night, and will play Early tonight at 7:00 in Coleman. If they beat Early, they will be in the play-offs too!!!
*~*Good Luck Hawks!! Beat Early!!!*~*

I am helping with the UIL One Act Play this year, and it's going well. We are doing a play called "The Boys Next Door" and it's about 4 mentally handicapped men living in a group apartment. Then there is "Jack" who helps look after them. It's a really great play and the kids are really doing a great job of honoring the men in which they are playing! When we were reading plays, this one hit me in the heart. I guess you a know why.

Since the guys are playing in Coleman tonight, I think we are going to my mom and dad's house this afternoon before the game. They only live 15 min. from Coleman. We will probably stay there tonight and come home tomorrow. Jeremy is busy getting ready for the basketball game, so he's got lots of phone calls to make and film to watch tomorrow!

I guess that is about all for now. Please pray for Brandon Clark in his battle against cancer and pray for Caden to stay healthy. Thanks for checking on him and I am sorry for the long time between updates.

Love & hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & The YES man

Well, I hope you all consider no news as good news since I haven't updated in so long. It seems like I haven't had a spare moment the last couple of weeks. We have all been really busy, but everyone's doing great!

As some of you may have seen on KLST, Caden was in the news again!!! I haven't even seen it because we were out of town, but I am waiting for a copy of it, and maybe I can get it on here too. Everyone says the story was great! It was to promote the West TX Rehab and their telethon that took place the following day. It shows the little man working in PT and OT and there is a little interview with me.

Caden has been doing really well (knock on wood)! He actually got a little snotty this week, but that seems to be his only symptom of anything. He's still being his silly, Little Man self! He's eating well and seems to be growing like a weed. He really hasn't started doing anything new lately to report of. His head control, while on his tummy, is up to about 24-25 seconds at a time. We took his stander to daycare, and Veronica is putting him in it at least once a day, so I think it is really helping! He took a few sips from a sippy cup, but doesn't care much for it! We are also trying a straw like in Capri Sun drinks. They are tasty and I can kinda squirt the juice into his mouth to coax him a little!

The year is flying by so quickly! We are right in the middle of UIL and are almost staring Spring in the face! Basketball season is growing to a close. We still have at least 2 weeks left of games, but HOPEFULLY we will have more like 4 weeks of games!!! The girls are really playing hard and lost a big game last night in the last few seconds. They had out-played the other team the whole game, which makes the loss even harder. They are fighting for 2nd or 3rd in District now in order to make it to the play-offs. I know they will do it because I believe in the Lady Hawks!!!

I am busy at school getting my 9th graders ready for the TAKS test, which (for those of you who aren't Texans) is our state mandated test the kids have to take and pass each year. It is such a pain in my behind!!! The kids' behinds too!!! It will be over on February 20th though and we can move onto some other things.

I am the assistant One Act Play director this year and it is going well. We are doing the play "The Boys Next Door" which is about 4 mentally-handicapped guys living in a group home together. YES, it is tastefully written and performed. It is so hilarious and you just fall in love with the 4 main characters! Hopefully we will go far with it! I wish you could all see it performed!

I don't know of a whole lot more that is going on here. Please pray for Brandon Clark, whose cancer has returned, and he is receiving chemo in Houston 5 days a week. Pray for strength and courage for him as he is away from his family for some of the weeks. Please also pray for all the kiddos who are struggling with mito or symptoms related to their mito right now. Please pray for the Kilbride family. They have spent the last 6 years thinking their son, Kirkland, had mito only to find out days ago that he has Niemann-Pick disease. Everything they have done for the past 6 years has been ripped out from under them. Pray for peace and understanding for them all.

Thanks for checking in on us, and I apologize for making you all wait so long for an update. I will TRY to do better!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Little Man

Well, I have not started 2007 out very well in area of journal updates. I am sorry I have kept you all waiting so long, but everything is going really well.........knock on wood!!!

Caden's ears seem to have cleared up and his attitude is great! He just moved up to the 3 year old room at daycare, and seems to love it. He has been more vocal every day he's been in there, plus he's eating well and napping well. Many of the kiddos in there have been in a classroom with him at some point, and others from his last room moved to this one when he did, so he's not a stranger to any of them! Of course, Mrs. Veronica moved with him and the other young teachers in there are really sweet with Caden.

He has his own way of "crawling" on his back when he's in the floor. He can scoot wherever he wants to, and he's getting faster! He's a stinker! He is continuing to say "Ma" or "Mum" all the time, so I answer! Now we are working on "Da"! He took a few sips from a sippy cup last week, but he's not to fond of them! We took his stander to daycare, so Veronica is putting him in it every day. I think he's getting stronger each and every day! Last night, while on his tummy, he held his head up and looked around for a long time!

Last Saturday, we took him up to West TX Rehab because his PT was having a workshop for some new equipment they were getting that Caden would get to use. It is a better version of the they put him in when he stands and practices walking on the treadmill. The old one didn't have anything that went between his legs to help hold him up, but this one does. The new one doesn't come up as far on his chest, so he has to work on control of his upper chest, shoulders, neck, and head. He loved it! It will be fun for him to use it! While he was in it, they lifted him up a few feet off the ground so it was like he was flying, and he just smiled and talked to everyone!

Speaking of the West TX Rehab, tune into KLST for the Rehab Telethon on January 20 at 7:00 pm!!!
Caden won't be on it this year, but please show your support. WTRC is an amazing facility for children and adults in need, and we are SO fortunate to live in a town with such a wonderful place to take Caden!

The Lady Hawks lost a big game last Friday night, then won a big game Tuesday night! There are a lot of ups and downs in high school girl's basketball!!! We play Bangs tomorrow night, and if they gilrs play like they did Tuesday, we should win a lot of our games we have left! They will have to work hard, and play well, but we hope to make it to the play-offs again this year! We have 5 teams in our diatrict that are REALLY good! In fact, there is 1 team in 1st place, and 4 others tied for 2nd as we finish the first half of district games. It should be exciting!

The Hawks have 5 really good teams in the boys side of the district too! They have had lots of ups and downs too so far!!! They won a huge game last Friday, then lost a big on Tuesday! They, too, will have to work hard, and play well, but hopefully will get in the play-offs too!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks!! Beat Bangs!!~*~

Please pray for Brandon Clark, the young father and husband that I have mentioned before. His cancer has returned and he is in Houston having chemo 5 days a week! Please pray for him and his family!

Pleast also pray that 2007 is the year they find a cure for mitochondrial diseases, and that 2007 is the year Caden grows strong enough to hold his head up and sit up!

Thank you all for visiting and leaving wonderful messages in the guestbook! We rely on the support around us to make it through each day of this journey! We love you all!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Wonderful

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We certainly did! Despite Caden developing 2 ear infections, and ending up in antibiotics AGAIN, we all had a very Merry Christmas! Really the only sign of the ear infections was drainage from Caden's ear, and he never even had fever or anything. We started ear drops at the first sign of the drainage (Fri. night) and then got the doctor to call in the antibiotics the next morning.

Caden got all kinds of goodies for Christmas. He got toys, movies, books, clothes, and shoes. Here is a picture of him with all his new toys and his Tigger pillow!
All the cool toys came from Manhattan Toys. They have the greatest things!

I know this is a short update, but I noticed how long it had been and I wanted to tell you all we had a great Christmas and update you on how Caden was doing. Please say a prayer for the families and friends of 2 young boys who went to heaven in the last few days, Lance and Tyler. Lance had battled Menkes disease, a metabolic disease, for 6 years and Tyler had battled mito for 8 years.

Have a safe and wonderful New Year!! Welcome 2007!

Before I start our update, I need to ask for prayers for the Reynolds family. Little Morgan Reynolds earned her angel wings on Dec. 16. She was 2 1/2 years old and had battles mito her whole life. We were fortunate enough to meet her mom Leslie and her dad Bernard this past summer at the mito conference. Morgan's big brother's name is Carter. I felt like we knew little Morgan too because we kept up with her through her websites. Please pray for peace, comfort, and understanding for the entire family as they face these days and holidays without Morgan. You can visit her site and leave them some encouraging words if you'd like.
www.caringbridge.org/visit/morganreynolds
That makes 2 young lives in 2 short weeks that have been lost to mito. I hate this disease!

Please also pray for one of our janitors, Janie Trevino. She was involved in a car accident close to Corpus Christi and has 3 broken vertabrae in her back. She has to have surgery. Her husband and daughter are staying down there in a hotel. Please pray for a successful surgery and complete healing. I don't know how our school will run without her and Jessie! They are the BEST!!

Now for the update.................
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are starting a wonderful week. We have final exams today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We get out at 2:30 today and tomorrow, then 12:30 on Wednesday. Then it is NO SCHOOL for 2 weeks!!! I don't know who is more excited or who needs the break the most: the teachers or the students!

Caden was a little sickly at the end of last week. Jeremy went to get him from daycare on Thursday because he threw up. I can not find a reason for why he threw up, but he did. So, my mom came to keep him at home on Friday and he kept everything down all day. His attitude was great on Saturday and Sunday! Strange, huh???

Saturday was mine and Jeremy's 6th anniversary!! Since Caden felt better, and my family paid for our dinner out, we got Mrs. Veronica to come watch him for a couple of hours and we had a nice dinner ALONE! I also got 6 beautiful red roses for 6 years! Mrs. Veronica put Caden in his chair and pushed him down the street right after dark to look at all the Christmas lights on the houses. He loved it!

We FINALLY got all of our Christmas lights up outside and the tree is decorated inside! I have a few last touches I need to take care of inside, but it looks pretty festive!

This is a call to anyone who needs or wants to make some extra money every week................
This Burn Lounge business is AWESOME!!! Jeremy and I doubled the money it took to get into the business in our first WEEK!!!!! Plus we already made money yesterday to start this week!!! It's all about positioning and timing, so if you are interested, PLEASE email me and we can talk about it! This is a blessing sent from God for our family and we would like to pass it onto others who care about our family and who we care about!

Yesterday was the Christmas Cantada at church and the music was beautiful! After we got home, we tried (and tried and tried and tried.....) to take a good family picture in front of the Christmas tree for our Christmas cards. Man, it was an ordeal! We did finally get one that was pretty good of everyone. I will put one on here soon!

Well, the Lady Hawks lost a hard fought ball game Friday night by 3 points. We were ahead most of the game, then got behind 5 points, then came back to take the lead with about 31 seconds left. Then the lead changed one too many times in that last 30 seconds! It was definitely an exciting game, but not so good when your team comes up a little short. Some players learned some hard lessons in Friday's game that will only make them stronger and better for the rest of district play. It's all uphill from here! They still played a great game and we are all proud of them! They play Ingram Thursday night at the Junell Center at ASU.
~*~Good luck Lady Hawks! Beat Ingram!!~*~

I still haven't gotten my Christmas shopping done. I guess that's what I'll do at the end of this week. I did have to go to Wal-Mart last night, and it was a NIGHTMARE!!! There were people everywhere, they were out of everything (already!), and nothing had prices on it! I was so flustered when I left there!

Our school Christmas party is tomorrow night, so I think we will get Veronica to come watch Caden. He just loves her! It's always a fun party with lots of prize give-aways, and a scavenger hunt that gets CRAZY!!

I hope you are all having a great Monday. Please pray for Morgan's family. Thank you for checking in on the Little Man! We love you all!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mystery Man

Sunday, December 10, 2006 11:37 AM CST

I hope you are all having a great weekend. We are using today to FINALLY get some Christmas lights and decorations up around our house. Yeah!! Caden was a sleepy head this morning and we had to wake him up at 10:20! We have high hopes of making it to church this morning, but then he decided he didn't really want to eat his breakfast and take his medicine in a timely fashion, so none of us had time to get ready! Between being sick, being gone for basketball, and traveling - we haven't made it to church in several weeks. They are probably wondering if we fell off the face of the earth!

I have a prayer request before I update today. Little Morgan Reynolds has been sent home from the hospital on hospice. She is 2 and a half and has been battling mito all her life. We had the great fortune of meeting her mom and dad, Leslie & Bernard, at the mito conference this last summer. Morgan also has a big brother, Carter, who THANKFULLY shows no sign of mito. Please pray for Morgan and that she is pain free and peaceful. Please pray for Leslie, Bernard, and Carter as they go through this terrible ordeal. Please pray for peace and understanding for all their family. You can visit Morgan Reynold's site at www.caringbridge.org/visit/morganreynolds

Please continue to pray for Morgan Meyers' family as they deal with the days and holidays without her. Please pray that her little sister Molly, who also has mito, is healthy.

I have to admit that hearing the news of these young kids with mito passing is pretty hard to deal with, especially when you have met them or their parents. It's hard to imagine parents having to go through so much pain, but ultimately it means their child won't have to go through that pain anymore. I know that Caden is doing really well right now and that I shouldn't worry about those things, but it's always in the back of your mind. How could it not be? How do you not let it come to mind when you hear about what other families are going through? If you have the answer, please tell me! I know we have to live for each day and not try to see into the future, and BELIEVE ME we try very hard. Most days it's easier than others. When Caden is doing well and being silly.....it's easy! When he gets sick or won't eat......it's harder. Thank God he's been doing so well lately and even his sicknesses have been minor things. Please pray he continues to do so well!

Okay, let's find something more cheerful to talk about.....
Caden has gotten to where he can say "ma", "mum", and even the occasional "mama"!! I really hope and THINK he associates those words with me and calling for me! It warms my heart to hear him say it! Even when I'm not here, Jeremy always reports that Caden has been "calling for me" while I am gone! His speech therapist says he is now ready for B and D sounds, so we will now start working on "da" and "dada"! Jeremy will be glad to hear that! He's been really cheerful lately and he is getting to be quite speedy at scooting himself around his mat and even off of the mat! I know Caden will enjoy looking at the lights on the Christmas tree, so I am eager to get it up.

The Lady Hawks had a couple of good games this weekend. They beat a really good 3A team, Seminole, then played another good game against another good 3A team, Lubbock Cooper, but lost by a heartbreaking 3 points! They played really well in both games though. They have already played 17 games!!! Can you believe it??? Their record shows what a tough schedule they have played to prepare them for their new, tougher district. They are 9-8, but only 1 of those losses was from a 2A school. All the others have been 3A-5A schools. District starts Tuesday night! I can't wait!
~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks!! Beat Grape Creek!!~*~

Our homeroom classes are partnering with our Student Council and we are shopping for our Christmas Angel, which is a less fortunate child from our own community. It is so humbling to see that some children ask for shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrushes for Christmas. It shows me how truly blessed our family is to have the things we have. Now we still struggle, but we have the necessities and then some, and I am truly thankful for that. I am truly thankful for the love and support that our family (Jeremy, Caden, and me) gets from our family, friends, co-workers, and community. Please consider finding an Angel tree at your local mall or Salvation Army or something, or just find a child or family that is less fortunate, and give them even a small gift or meal to make their Christmas more Merry!

Jeremy and I took a huge leap of faith today and entered into a new online business. The guy that approached us about it is a VERY distinguished and well-known coach from the Panhandle. He feels it has been a "blessing from God" and he wants to give the opportunity to people who have been blessings to him. He knew about Caden and he knew we would want to make extra money. He is approaching his ANNUAL salary in his last month's earnings in this business!!! It is a digital content company, for example, anyone can go to our store to purchase and download music. It is called Burn Lounge. In the future, they will make it possible to download movies (sorry Blockbuster!) and games for XBox and Playstation. If anyone is interested in hearing about this exciting new business opportunity, please contact me via email. If you buy and download music for your enjoyment, please visit our Burn Lounge store!!
www.burnlounge.com/jvcwilliams

I guess I better wrap up this update. We have to get those Christmas decorations up!!! Thank you all for stopping by to check on Caden! I hope you are all enjoying these few weeks before Christmas. What an awesome time of year! I hope everyone remembers the reason for the season! Please pray for those in need! We love you all!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Little Man

Merry Christmas!!

Wednesday, December 6, 2006 8:24 PM CST

I can't believe how fast time is flying by right now. It seems like yesterday that it was October and Halloween, and now it's almost Christmas!!! I am sooooo NOT ready! We don't have any of our Christmas decorations up or any lights or anything! I have to get busy this weekend, or it will almost be too late to enjoy them.

Caden has had a really good week. This past weekend he went to stay with my mom and dad while I went to Lubbock for the basketball tournament and he had a little bug on Friday, but since that he's been great. We went to get him on Sunday and he's been really happy and feeling good. He appears to be gaining weight right now, or at least he looks like it. It's hard without ECI and our nutritionist we had through them, but he looks really healthy. He's a free little spirit......and determined! He will scoot himself all the way off him mat and it you pick him up to move him back onto the mat, he throws a FIT!! He wants to go where he wants and when he wants! He certainly doesn't want us to mess with him! Ms. Veronica said he's wanted to "walk" all this week and he gets mad at her when she tries to pick him up. He had a great time at PT today and got to swing in the big swing.

Well, Saturday was the end of the Hawks football season. They had a GREAT season and lost a tough game against Idalou. One of our best players went out of the game with a bad knee injury in the 3rd quarter, and it seemed to take the wind out of the rest of the guys sails. They really had a wonderful season and got farther than any other team at Wall has in a LONG time. We are all very proud of them and they have a lot to be proud of themselves.

The Lady Hawks had a great weekend at the Shallowater tournament. They won all four games they played and they really started playing well together. They had fun staying in Lubbock and all too! Everyone got to play lots of basketball and do a little shopping! Last night the Lady Hawks lost a tough battle with Abilene Wylie by 5 points, but they get to play them again tomorrow in a tournament, so they get another shot at beating them!

I hope you are all doing better with your Christmas shopping than I am......I haven't even started! The last 2 years, my family has decided to draw names instead of getting everyone something, so it's better for the budget! So, technically I only have 2 gifts to buy, if I don't count Jeremy and Caden! Jeremy won't tell me anything to get him, so I will just have to guess! Caden is so hard to shop for. He will get clothes and shoes, but I would like to find a cool toy or something he would like. We just have to keep looking! If anyone has any good ideas, please share them!

Our first semester of school is quickly winding down. We only have next week left, then we have finals the following Mon, Tues, and Wed and then we are out of school until January!!! I can't believe it's already semester break! I am ready for some time off......Thanksgiving is just a tease of a break! I have been busy keeping my papers graded so I don't have so many to catch up on at the end.

That is all I have to update on for tonight. I have a few prayer requests. Please pray for the Meyers family. Morgan Meyers, a young girl, lost her battle with mito 2 days ago. Her younger sister, Molly, is also battling mito. Please pray for the whole family at this sad time. It's so hard to hear of these kiddos passing away from mitochondrial disorders. Please pray for healing miracles for all of them (including Caden) and pray for the doctors and researchers to find a cure! Please also pray for an ex-coworker, Donia, who is going through all the tests to be placed on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. She only has 1 kidney and it's failing. Several of her friends and family members have agreed to be tested, so pray one of them is a match! Please also pray for the classmates, coach, and family of a JV basketball player from Paducah HS who was killed in an accident on the icy roads last Thursday. The team was traveling to a tournament when the accident happened.

It's supposed to get cold here again tomorrow. I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind about this weather! It was in the 60's today, then we have sleet and snow forecasted for Friday morning! We got to start school late (10 am) last Thursday because of the ice from this last cold front. That would be nice again! I hope you all stay warm! Thanks for checking on the Little Man and the rest of us!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Independent

Well, we are back from New Mexico and back to school! It sure was hard to get up this morning and go back to work, but that just means we are 1 day closer to Christmas Break!

Caden is doing great! His ear is all healed from the infection. I thought it had gone to his other ear, but I have decided it didn't. There was a little stuff in the other ear, but it's gone and it was only there 1 day. Last night he got a haircut......by me! He looks so cute with his short hair! He has a new trick.......he will lay on his mat on the floor and I will lay on the opposite side of it and I will tell him to "come see me" and he will scoot and push with his feet until he gets almost to me, then he will reach out his hand and if I grab it, he pulls himself the rest of the way to me! It's very cool!

My allergies and sinuses have been killing me since right before Thanksgiving. I am very hoarse and have lots of drainage. It's really annoying when you try to teach a class! My kids have had to listen to our novel on tape today and probably tomorrow.

Jeremy and the basketball team will be traveling to Lubbock this weekend to play in the Shallowater tournament. I am going down on Friday, and Caden may or may not be going. He may stay with my mom and dad. It's supposed to be COLD Thursday and Friday. The high is in the 30's on Thursday here, so no telling how cold it will be in Lubbock!!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks!!~*~

Our HAWKS won their football game Friday night, so they advance to the Regional round. No team from Wall has made it this far since the 1980's!! They play Idalou at 4:00 pm. Saturday in Midland. We will go from Lubbock to Midland on Saturday. Since everyone wants to make it to the football game, no matter if they win or lose their first game in the Shallowater tournament, the basketball team will go straight to the Consolation bracket so we will be through with our games in time to make it to the football game.

~*~Way to go Hawks!! Keep going all the way!!~*~

We had a really nice visit with all of Jeremy's family for Thanksgiving. We spent time with everyone! I got up at 3:20 am for our traditional "day after Thanksgiving" shopping trip Friday morning. Was it just me or did the sales STINK this year?? There was really nothing any of us need to go get, we just went because it was tradition. Jeremy and his dad spent a lot of time quail hunting, which they loved!

That's all I have for today! I hope you all had a very nice holiday with your families. I know we all spent a lot of time thinking of all the things we are thankful for this year.

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "The Scooter"

Happy Thanksgiving from New Mexico!!!

I hope everyone is doing well. It is quite cold here this morning! Finally!! I love the cold weather and SNOW, but we rarely see it around here!

Caden has been doing well. He is through with his antibiotic, and now we just have to go let the doctor check his ears. He got to bundle up in some of his cute winter clothes this morning, so I had to get some pictures. I hope you like them!

There isn't a lot going around here. Jeremy and the basketball girls left this morning for their basketball tournament in Marble Falls. He will be gone until Saturday. Caden and I will be "baching" it!!

~*~Good luck Lady Hawks!!~*~

The Hawks play Anson Friday night at 7:30 in Sweetwater to start their run in the football play-offs! Let's hope they go a loooonnngggggg way!!!

~*~Good Luck Hawks!! Beat Anson!!~*~

It's getting closer to Thanksgiving and I can't wait to have some turkey and dressing! Plus the break from school will also be nice! We get out early Tuesday, but have a basketball game, so we won't be hitting the road until Wednesday. The Spanish Club is having their talent show that is benefiting Caden and the UMDF on Tuesday.

I guess that is about all for today. Please continue to pray for Penny & Mark and the 3 babies; Donia Robles and her wait for a new kidney; baby Kaeden, whose has been in the hospital.....her mom used to take care of our Caden at daycare; and my student and his mom who has terminal cancer. Thanks for visiting!!

Hugs & Love,

Tuesday~~
Please pray for Penny and Mark, the mother who was expecting quadruplets and her husband. She had the babies yesterday at only 25 weeks 1 day. Each of the 4 babies weighed 1 pound 7-10 ounces. There were 2 boys and 2 girls, but one of the baby boys passed away last night. Please pray mom, dad, and the three babies.

Monday~~
I can not believe how fast this month is flying by! It's almost time for Thanksgiving break. I am SO looking forward to a break from school.......and I'm sure the kids need a break from their teachers too!!!

Caden is doing well right now. We are finishing up a round of antibiotics for his ear infection that he turned up with last Thursday. In fact, today will be his last day of them.......THANK GOODNESS!!! That poor kid! You should see all the medicine we have to stuff down him every morning. I was afraid to give him all of it for the first few days after he started the antibiotics, but after we saw how lethargic he was without his vitamins, I started giving it all to him, and he did fine. For the last 10 days, he's gotten the following meds each morning:
30 mg. Prevacid
100 mg. COQ10
3 mL Tegretol
1 Ginko Biloba capsule (in his bottle)
2 mL Vitamin E
4.5 mL Carnitor/Riboflavin
5 mL Antibiotic
He then gets the carnitor/ribo., vit. E, and tegretol again after lunch, and the tegretol again before bedtime.

That would make me want to throw-up everywhere! We just added the ginko and the vit. E, and they really seem to help. All the vitamins together really DO make a difference in his stamina, cognition, and overall strength.

We have been extremely busy the last 2 weeks. We had cross-country season finishing up and basketball season was already starting, so we have been run ragged! The girls CC team got 3rd at Regionals, which qualified them to the State Meet this last Saturday. The boys CC team won Regionals and advanced to the State meet. Saturday, we went to Round Rock (close to Austin) for the State CC Meet. The girls ran amazingly well and placed 2nd in the State!!! The boys team ran amazingly well also and WON the State Meet!!! I have included some pictures from Saturday.

After the meet was over, we had to jump in the car (Jeremy had to jump on the bus) and head back to Mason for our first real basketball game of the year. The girls had to get a lot of kinks worked out int he first half, and were behind 20-6 at one point in the 3rd quarter, but came back to win on a 3-point shot with .9 seconds left in the game!! It was very exciting!

Next week, the Spanish Club here at the high school is holding a talent show to raise money for Caden and the UMDF. I can't wait to see all the talent we have right here in our school!

We are getting ready for Thanksgiving. Jeremy, Caden, and I will be heading for New Mexico. I am ready to be out of school for several days. I could use a few days of solid sleep.......but we all know that won't happen! I am ready to do a little Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving! I don't think we will be taking a ski trip this Christmas.....at least not my whole family. Jeremy and I would love to get away to the snow for a few days, but we'll have to see!

I guess that is about it for today. Please pray for a lady named Donia that worked with me last year. She only has 1 kidney, and it's startting to fail, so she has been placed on the transplant list, but there is a LONG wait. Please pray for a friend of a friend named Penny who is expecting quadruplets and is only about 28 weeks along. She needs those babies to stay in as long as they can! Please also pray for one of my students (a freshman in high school), whose mom has cancer and there is nothing else the doctors can do for her. He has not been at school for several days so he can spend as much time with her as possible before she is gone.

Thank you for checking in on us and for all your thoughts and prayers.
Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, and Mr. Medicine

Monday~~
Where did last week go???

Caden is doing well and seems to be all well. He doesn't sound rattly in his chest anymore........so I guess it was a "touch" of pneumonia. He is back to his jolly 'ole self! He went to bed a little early last night, I guess due to the time change. I don't know if his allergy drops are working or not. I can't really tell a difference. We did add the Vit. E and ginko biloba to his "mito" cocktail. That ginko is like alphalpha hay in a tablet! It is so gross, and when you empty the capsule, there is too much of it to put in a little applesauce, so we tried to put it in his bottle and he drank it, so maybe that will continue to work. We'll see if it makes a difference.

He was so cute in the pep rally on Friday! I will add a picture when I get one. It was a black-out pep rally though, so the pics may not be too great! His Yoda costume is so cute. He got to wear it again yesterday to the Monster Mash Fun Run that one of our school organizations had......we only walked a mile! He loved it though!

Last Monday, the Lady Hawks & Hawks Cross-Country teams swept the district meet! They won the JV girls and boys divisions and the varsity girls and boys divisions!! New district, same tradition!!! This week they will all be off to Lubbock for the Regional CC Meet, and hopefully, the next weekend they will be off to Round Rock for the State CC Meet!!!

~*~Run Hard Lady Hawks & Hawks!!~*~
~*~Bring Home 2 Regional Championships!!~*~

The football guys won big against Ballinger on Friday night too! They will play Jim Ned this Friday night in hopes of going 8-0 in district and on to the play-offs!!!

~*~Good Luch Hawks!! Beat Jim Ned!!~*~

Can you belive it is that time of the year again??? The Lady Hawks have their first basketball scrimmage tomorrow night in Snyder! Jeremy can not wait! I guess I am ready.....I don't really have a choice! Caden and I will be going with the team, so we will have to trick-or-treat tonight!

Tonight is the KLST Halloween Festival for Special Kids! It is at the historic Cactus Hotel this year. It should be a lot of fun for Caden!

I guess that is it for today. It's supposed to be cooler tomorrow.....Yea! Thanks for stopping by to check on us. It really means a lot to know so many people think about us and our little Yoda!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Yoda

I am very sorry for the lack of updates. I really don't know where the time has gone. I am sure you have all been getting a little worried. Well, nothing to worry about (too much) around here.

Caden's spots finally got better by Monday and he started eating and drinking a little better. He stayed at home with my mom Monday - Wednesday and went back to daycare on Thursday. BUT, by Thursday, his croupy cough wasn't any better, so Jeremy took him back to the doctor and Dr. Acton wanted a chest x-ray. So, that afternoon, I took him in for the x-ray. Dr. Acton said it looked a "little hazy." We discussed the possiblility of it being a "touch" of pneumonia or asthma. He told me if the cough persists after Caden finishes his antibiotics, then it's asthma. Personally, I hope it's pneumonia. Can't believe I just made that statement! So......this is our first bout with pneumonia, which I am very thankful for because most mito kids fight pneumonia frequently. Today is his 7th of 10 days on antibiotics and breathing treatments (every 3-4 hours) and he sounds a lot better. Hopefully he's on the mend!

I feel so sorry for him because it seems like he just hasn't been able to catch a break since the end of August. It's been a hard 2 months......on all of us!

We are trying to reschedule his birthday party, hopefully for Oct. 28, if we can get the Fun Jump that weekend. We, along with all his buddies, were all disappointed about canceling it. We have a new fort that needs more breaking in than Caden can do alone!!!

Our poor Little Man got bit at daycare on Tuesday. Not just once, but twice........and the little kid that bit him did it so hard it left teeth marks and bruises! You know, if Caden could defend himself I might not be so upset, BUT he can't! I know, as Jeremy tells me, it's normal stuff that happens at daycare. Well, I'll let it go this time, but it better not happen AGAIN!!!!!!

Caden IS going to be Yoda for Halloween in honor of Jeremy's LOVE for Star Wars! I bought the costume early this year so we wouldn't have the catastrophe we had last year and end up with NO costume! It's so cute! Speaking of Jeremy's love for Star Wars........our cheerleaders are havign a Star Wars pep-rally for the football game before Halloween, and Jeremy is going to give the pep talk!

The weather is pretty cool here today. We have a "cold front"!! It's like in the 60's (ha) but it's a nice change from the 80's! I am so ready for it to be cool like this all the time.......even COLD! I love fall!

Magan, who used to be Caden's 1-on-1 aide at daycare, had her baby a few days ago. She named her Kaeden, in honor of our Little Man! Isn't that awesome! I can't wait for them to meet!

The cross-country girls and guys are getting ready for their district meet on Monday! We are in a new district this year, so it should be exciting! The Hawks football team is gearing up for a rematch with Early on Friday. Early is the team that knocked us out of the play-offs last year in a DOUBLE overtime game! Let's hope revenge is sweet tomorrow night!
GO HAWKS!!
RUN HARD LADY HAWKS & HAWKS!!

I guess that is about all that I have to update on today.I have a few prayer requests......Caden's healing, of course, but please also pray for his PT, Judy, for the loss of her father last week; please also pray for a fellow teacher/coach here at Wall's family in Canton, TX. The father, young daughter, and 18 day old baby were killed in a car accident this last weekend. The mother and father both taught drama at Canton HS. I can't imagine how the mother feels to have lost her entire family in one day. Please pray for her peace and comfort.

Thanks for checking up on Caden and thank you for all the birthday wishes! I promise to put up some pictures when we take them!!! Here is one tummy time picture of Caden with his "Pops", Jerry. (Jeremy's dad) It's so cute!

Well, there was NO birthday party. I took Caden to see the doctor on Saturday because he had a little fever when I picked him up from daycare on Friday, and he had a croupy cough. I figured I'd better take him in so he could feel better for his party! Well, on Sat. I couldn't get an appointment until 3 pm, and he was miserable all day and slept a lot! He acted like he hurt all over, especially when I'd pick him up or move him around a lot. One time, he started crying and I saw a couple of red spots in his mouth.........OH NO! I kept thinking "maybe, just maybe, that's not what it is..." Then, by the time I got him to the doctor, he had a new sore on his hand, and I KNEW that was what it was......Hand, Foot, & Mouth!!! I showed the doctor the spots in his mouth and the one on his hand and his words (exactly) "Well, that makes it easy!" There isn't anything to do about Hand, Foot, & Mouth except wait it out because it's viral. He did give him some cough syrup with hydrocodine in it to help with the pain, and yesterday he told us to mix benadryl and Mylanta and swab it in his mouth to make it feel better. So, we had to cancel Caden's birthday party because he was still infectuous. We were all so sad! We are going to reschedule the party for next Saturday though, so hopefully he can enjoy it then!

I was so worried when he started to get sick. We have been so lucky that Caden has stayed healthy for all his birthdays. I know a lot of kids with mito that spend almost every birthday they have in the hospital. I feared we would have to celebrate this 3rd birthday in the hospital and that would be the start of many birthdays in the hospital. I was VERY thankful to find out that Caden had NORMAL kid stuff! We always tend to over-analyze everything when he gets sick in any way. It's always good to know it's stuff all kids get, even if it did ruin the party and weekend!

I do need to ask for some immediate prayers for Caden and his health. The blisters in his mouth have made it very hard, almost impossible, for him to eat and drink. If he does not do a better job of drinking liquids today, I fear we will end up in the hospital for dehydration and IV fluids tonight or tomorrow. He is at home today with his Mimi and Pops from NM. They are working hard to push anything and everything down him! He is very miserable and hasn't slept much the last few nights. Please pray he feels well enough to eat and drink today and pray he can get some rest.

My family still came to celebrate with us yesterday. It was nice to have everyone together even though Caden didn't feel well. We do have some pictures from him opening gifts, but he was NOT happy in any of them! It seems like days since I have seen him smile or laugh. I am ready for his old self to be back!

The Hawks won their homecoming game 41-14!! They played really well! We were late getting to the game, so we didn't get to take Caden out to the middle for the Sportsmanship award presentation. We were disappointed, but it's probably best that he wasn't around anyone he didn't have to be around at that point.

The cross-country teams did well at Round Rock on Saturday. The girls got 5th place, but only 1 of those other 4 teams was 2A. The others were 1A (1 team) and 3A (3 teams). I forgot to ask Jermey what place the boys got!

I guess that is about it for today. Please pray for Caden's complete healing! We are also having a situation at daycare right now, so please pray that we can peacefully resolve it! It's just a good thing he won't be there for a few days.

Thank yo uall for stopping by to wish him a Happy Birthday. He wasn't very happy, but sometimes that happens!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Sickly"

2 days until Caden's 3rd birthday!!!

Can you BELIEVE it's already OCTOBER?????

I can not believe I forgot to tell you all about our homecoming duchesses (homecoming queen nominees)!!!!! Our student body selects 6 of the Senior girls to be the duchesses, then we vote again from those 6 for the Queen that will be announced at halftime of the game tonight. All the girls wear formals and are escorted out by their fathers and all. Well, our kids selected Alexa Nichols as one of the duchesses!!!! She's the young lady that was paralyzed in the diving accident in the Spring. Isn't that AWESOME!! And what would be even more AWESOME is if she wins tonight!!! It would definitely make for an emotional night!

What a crazy week it has been around school! Homecoming week is always pretty crazy. We have a different dress-up day each day of the week for homecoming. Monday it was cowboy/cowgirl day (I forgot to dress up!), yesterday was Barbie/Ken day, today was PJ day, tomorrow is flashback (to any time), and Friday is green & white day. We have kind of had to over look minor dress code infractions, and it is driving me CRAZY to see all these flip-flops and untucked shirt tails! I will say though, I got a lot of work done today in my PJs!! It's been a lot of fun though. I don't know what I am going to do for tomorrow yet.

We are all very busy getting ready for Caden's BIG 3rd birthday on Sunday. My dad and mom were here all weekend so he and Jeremy could work on the fort. That is Caden's big gift for his birthday. It's a fort with a slide and swings. He LOVES to slide and we let him try it out yesterday and he loved it!!! Dad and Jeremy worked ALL day until after dark on Sunday, and then Dad worked on it half of Monday and besides a couple of screws, it's finished! The swings aren't put up yet. I think the kids will love playing on it for the party, and we are also going to have a Fun Jump. I hope we can fit it all in the back yard! I think most of his classmates are coming and some other friends of his. It will be a lot of fun!

The cross-country girls and guys did great in Lubbock on Saturday. It was a LONG day! We left Wall at 4 am and didn't get home until about 6:30 pm! The girls team got 3rd over all and the boys got 2nd!

~*~Good luck at Round Rock Lady Hawks & Hawks!~*~
~*~Run hard!!~*~

The football guys beat Grape Creek on Friday, so they are 1-0 in district. This Friday they will take on San Saba for homecoming. This is the game where the Student Council is presenting the Sportsmanship award, a donation to the UMDF in honor of Caden, to San Saba ISD before the game. The kids are going to push Caden out to the middle of the field with them for the presentation! Jeremy and the cross-country girls will leave after halftime of the game to go to Round Rock for the CC meet the next morning.

~*~Good Luck Hawks! Beat San Saba!!~*~

Another of our school groups, the Spanish Club, is having a talent show to raise money for a charity and they have decided to send the money to the UMDF in honor of Caden also!! We have the BEST kids and teachers in the whole world here at Wall!

Caden has been doing really well lately. He's still not wanting to eat much for me in the evenings. When I reach for the spoon, you'd think I shot him by the cries he lets out, but after several bites, he's kinda okay with it! I think he eats better for Mrs. Veronica at daycare. Maybe I need to get her to come feed him dinner! He will start his allergy drops in the morning. I was supposed to start them this morning and forgot. I have to get my act together, huh?? He sounded a little congested this morning, so maybe they will help with that.

We have Caden's first ARD meeting this afternoon. We have decided not to put him in school yet. He just has it too good at Mosaic with Mrs. Veronica and the one-on-one (most days) attention she gives him. Plus, he could only go to school 1/2 a day when he's 3, so he'd spend a lot of time on a bus to and from daycare and school. We do have a few issues at daycare that we have to get worked out for it to stay the best situation for him. The one-on-one care he is supposed to be getting is not happening everyday like it should be! We plan on addressing the issue this afternoon. We may think about school when he turns 4. All our therapists and coordinators think this is the best decision also.

I guess that is just about it for today. I hope you are all having a great week and I hope you have a great weekend! I will get birthday pictures up ASAP next week! Thank you for taking the time to check on us all!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Almost 3"

Wow, it is already Friday! This week flew by so quickly. We are going to pick up Curious George today! I can't wait for Caden to see it! I am also going to look for a TMX Elmo for his birthday. Some of you may not know that the YMCA Elmo he got last year fell over on him and totally tramatized him, so I don't know how TMX Elmo might go over???? I guess we will see. If he hates it, then I'll auction it on eBay and make a killing off it!

Caden has had runny poo-poo yesterday and this morning. Dr. Acton is calling in something to put in his food to "bulk up" the poop. Ha! First I am talking about poop, then bulking up poop! Who in their right mind would want that???

September was a hard month, so I am glad to see it's almost gone. I hope and pray that October is more UNeventful. I have had to struggle a lot this past month with being torn between what Caden needs and being a good employee. Between illnesses, tests, ear tubes, and meetings, Jeremy and I both had to miss more school this past month than ever before in such a short time. I feel guilty about missing school, but Caden has to come first. I just keep telling myself that. I know I need to be here for my kids and to teach them, so I feel very guilty when I have to miss. I love my job and I love teaching these kids. I hope this is not a sign that my career is coming to an end. I feel so very lucky to have been able to keep working since Caden came. I thank God for the wonderful people (Miss Veronica & Miss Lindsay) that He has placed in our lives to help us out and take good care of Caden. This is a huge part of why I have been able to keep teaching. I do not want that to end for many reasons, but I will stay at home if I need to for Caden's sake. Sorry you had to listen to my sob story! It has just been weighing heavy on my mind this month and it feels good to "air" it out!

Our Student Council here at the high school gives the opposing football team a "Sportsmanship" award each home game and usually it is a donation to some charity in that school's name. Well, next week, they are giving a donation to the UMDF in honor of Caden to San Saba! The kids are going to push Caden out to the middle of the field with them when they present the award. Awesome, huh??? Also later in the year, they will be doing some sort of fundraiser for the UMDF! I am so excited! We also put a note in Caden's birthday invitations asking the families to donate in honor of Caden! I hope it turns out well!

I will be traveling with Jeremy and the cross-country team to their meet in Lubbock tomorrow morning. We have to leave at 4 am, so please pray for our safety to and from the meet!

~*~Good luck Lady Hawks & Hawks in Lubbock!~*~
~*~Run Hard!~*~

~~Good Luck Hawk football!! Beat GRAPE CREEK!!~*~

I hope you all have a great weekend! I will be trying to get the house ready for Caden's BIG party next Sunday!

Curious George comes out on video Tuesday!!!!

The new video above is a combination of Caden having fun doing different things. The first part, when he is on the floor, was the afternoon of his ear tube surgery. Yes, he was that fired up just hours after the surgery! The rest o fit is him in his tumbleform chair on the Gym Spin from Abilitations. His mamaw & papaw bought him the Gym Spin for Christmas last year, and it just came in the mail 2 weeks ago!! He loves it!

There is a lot to update you guys on today. I will start with the good news from today's visit with Dr. Easley. We were obviously overreacting...........NO FEEDING TUBE!!!! Caden has been eating much better this week, and he has gained back 5 oz! That is 1 oz. a day since the nutritionist saw him! Caden's growth has stayed the same, right along the 10th percentile line on his growth chart until this last time, when it dipped down to the 5th percentile. BUT, as of today, it had started to make its way back up to the 10th. So, as long as he keeps heading in the right direction (UP) and doesn't start dipping down a lot, then Dr. Easley says a feeding tube is NOT a option for Caden. Caden is fairly short as it is, so his weight and height are comparible at this point. Now, he said if the feeding was making our lives miserable and we were spending most of our time each day feeding him trying to keep his calories up, then we would think about a tube. Yes, feeding Caden is and always has been a challenge, but it's not consuming our lives and making them totally miserable. If I get frustrated, then Jeremy finishes feeding him, and vice versa. But that's just with his pureed food. He started drinking 6-7 oz. of his bottles again this week, and he can down a 7-8 oz. bottle in 15-20 minutes. So, I asked how long can he keep drinking from a bottle and Dr. Easley said "as long as he needs to." He said it's more of a social thing than anything else. Yes, it is, I guess. Caden only drinks 3 bottles a day, and those are at home unless we have somewhere we have to go. If he's getting most of his calories from his bottle, I don't care what people think when they see a 3 year old drinking from one!! We asked lots of questions about a feeding tube, even after Dr. Easley said Caden didn't need one. So, Dr. Easley said, "I usually have parents fighting off a feeding tube!" I said, "We have been fighting it off for 2.5 years, and we still don't want one unless it will greatly benefit Caden." Then we tlaked about nutrition and he explained how if Caden were off the bottom of the charts for a longer time, then a feeding tube would bring him back up to where he has been, and we would see a significant difference from the nutrition, but he's not off the charts. I kept up with what all he ate on Sunday (before he started eating better this week) for Sharon, the nutritionist, so she could figure out how many calories he was getting per kilo. Well, I was embarassed to email it to her because he really didn't eat hardly anything. But, when she figured it out, he was getting 68 cal. per kilo. which she was pretty happy with. Dr. Easley said he needed 60-70 cal. per kilo. to catch back up on his weight. (which he got and ate hardly anything) Then he could maintain his weight with 50-60 cal. per kilo. Well, I am going to ease up on him because he is getting enough calories when he isn't eating hardly at all!!! I am going to have to stop worrying about it so much!!! Long story short, it was VERY GOOD NEWS today!!! Thank you all for the information, emails, encouragement, thoughts, and prayers! I am sure we will still continue to need them!

His allergy tests went well yesterday. He went in at 11 am for the cream that numbs his arms, then we went back at 1:30 for the tests. He was so good! He didn't even cry once! He is basically allergic to everything here in West TX! He also showed food allergies to soy, wheat, and beef. He was allergic to all but 7 things they tested for, including:
Bermuda grass (our front yard)
Short Ragweed & False Ragweed (don't know the difference)
Lanb's Quarter (no idea!!)
Russian Thistle (TX tumbleweed)
Redberry Juniper (One of the worst)
Mountain Cedar (the other worst one)
Oak (all our trees in the yard)
Mesquite (How can you avoid those in TX??)
Cottonwood
All 3 mold mixes
Household dust mite (my whole house!)
Cat
Dog (2 in back yard)

Crazy, huh??? Even Dr. Walvoord was surprised at the amount and severity of his allergies. We are going to start allergy drops next week, so pray they work so he doesn't have to do allergy shots! His arms look like little pin cushions! Here is a picture!

As you can tell, Caden's new friend is Curious George! I am working on changing his webpage to Curious George, but it takes a little time! That is the theme for his birthday party this year, and he has 1 book that he loves! We actually had to read the book AS we were eating one evening last week, or Caden would start screaming! He can be a real stinker when he tries!!

I apologize for worrying anyone with my last update, but we are worried. It seems I am too cheerful on this page, and when I write something not so good, it gets everyone a little stirred up!!! Caden did a little better this weekend with his eating, but he's still only taking in about 1/2 of what he had been eating. I looked at the nutritionist's paper, and he actually lost 1 lb. 6 oz. According to a BMI calculator that puts him in the 5th percentile for weight, which equals UNDERWEIGHT. Dr. Easley is squeezing us in during his lunch on Thursday, so we won't have to wait any longer to see him. I have heard from several parents about feeding tubes, and none of them have any regrets about placing one for their child. We will see what Dr. Easley thinks. Our nutritionist is going to the appointment with us. I will let you all know what he says.

I also FINALLY got to talk to Dr. Tomasovic, the neurologist we saw in July who was looking at changing Caden's mito cocktail. He is adding Ginko Biloba and vitamin E. We will see what it does! We are also uping Caden's tegretol dosage to 3 mL 3X a day because his levels were a little low when we took his last blood test.

The Lady Hawks ran very well Saturday, but placed 4th in the cross-country meet because they ran in the 4A/5A division. If you don't know, we are only 2A, so those were BIG schools we were running against! Kendra placed 4th over all! I am so proud of all the girls!!

The Hawks had 2 teams and placed 1st and 2nd in the 1A/2A division. I am so proud of all those boys, but especially my little freshmen boys. It's such an adjustment for boys when they get to high school cross-country because they go from 2 miles in JH to 3 miles in HS, and those freshmen are just kicking booty!!!

The Hawks football team pulled out a close oneon Friday night too! Way to go guys!

It rained all day yesterday and the weather is much cooler today. It was actually in the 50's this morning, and sooooo nice! It's only supposed to be in the 80's for the next few days. It's a nice change!

I guess that is all for today. Please pray for Caden and his eating/nutrition, and our appointment Thursday. Please also pray for Gary Black, Brandon Clark, Alexa Nichols, & Sarah Hessler. Please pray for good health for all the kids with mito and their families!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Little Stinker"

Well, another week is almost gone. Things are not going as well as we would like them to be going. Caden is not eating very much again. He has not been himself since he had the stomach virus, and we don't know what to do or how to fix it. He won't eat his food for dinner for us, and he throws his bottle up if he drinks more than 4-5 oz. at a time. He will eat some of his lunch at school for Mrs. Veronica, but even she says he's not the same. He cries like his heart is broken when I reach for the spoon at dinner time. He has been keeping down as much Pedialyte as I can get him to drink, but he even had too much of it last night and threw it up. We are at a loss as to what to do. I have emailed our GI specialist and we will be getting an appointment with him, hopefully, next Thursday when he comes here from Temple. He said it would be best for us to sit down and talk about all our options. We have tried so hard for so long to get this kid to eat, and he had finally broken the 24 lb. mark, but he has lost a whole lb. since last month. That may not sound like a lot to some, but it really is with Caden. And the way things are going now, it will be more than a lb. before long. We have been trying so hard to avoid a feeding tube for the past 3 years, and it seems we may be losing the battle. It might not be such a bad idea if it will allow Caden to get the nutrition he needs to grow and be strong. It would keep us from having to hold him down and try to force feed him when it's so important to get calories in him. Caden's eating has never been easy or great, but it seems that it was the only bit of normalcy we all had left. It was one of the few things that Caden had left that a lot of mito kids don't have. It seems like this is our first major set back since we have gotten his diagnosis. I hope I am overreacting and maybe Caden just hasn't gotten his digestive system back on track since the stomach virus. I am just really worried. Please email me if you have any suggestions or ideas!

Caden's ears have done very well. He doesn't like it when I have to put the drops in them, but today is the last day for those. He has been extremely fussy the last 2 evenings, but I think he's just tired. I know he is tonight because he didn't go to sleep at nap time today! He finally let me put him down long enough to type this update.

The Lady Hawks and Hawks cross-country teams run here in town at ASU Saturday.

Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks.....run like you're #1!!

Good Luck to the Hawks football team tomorrow night against Ozona!

Please pray for Caden and his eating/nutrition. Please pray for Alexa Nichols, Sarah Hessler, Gary Black, & Brandon Clark.

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Skinny"

Tuesday~~
Caden's surgery went great! They didn't even have to give him an IV. They just used some gas to let him go to sleep, and the ear tubes were finished in about 15 minutes. We left him in the arms of the nurse before the surgery, and he was back in our arms in less than 1 hour! We went to the hospital at 6 am and were back home by 9:30 am. It was a very good experience for everyone. He is feeling great and I hope he can hear better and he will have less trouble with his silly ears! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! Have a great Tuesday!

Sunday~~
I hope everyone has had a good and restful weekend. Ours has been nice. We all napped for about 3 hours yesterday! It was needed!

Caden is doing well, although he is still throwing up every now and then. We are thinking maybe it's his reflux acting up badly. Who knows?? He's been in the best of moods though. He is laughing and being silly!

Veronica reported that Caden told a little girl to MOVE the other day when the little girl was sitting in Veronica's lap!!! I guess he is making it known that Mrs. Veronica is HIS!!! He also said "HEY" to his Papaw last weekend when he wasn't paying complete attention to Caden! Can you all say SPOILED ROTTEN????

Only a month left until his birthday. I can't believe he will be 3 years old. It's amazing where we are and where we have come from in the past 3 years. Time flies by so quickly!

Friday night, the Hawks lost a nail bitter football game 14 - 13 to Goldthwaite. It was a nice night for football, but things just didn't go our way.

Yesterday morning, the Lady Hawks & Hawks cross-country teams both won their divisions at the Concho Valley Cross-Country Classic. All the kiddos ran so well! Boys and girls both, they were all impressive!! This Saturday, they will compete right here in town at the ASU Cross-Country meet.

My dental work didn't go as well as planned. I have one tooth that he couldn't do anything to help, so I will eventually loose it. The bad thing is that it is one of the teeth holding my permanent bridge in place, so when I loose it, I will have to get a new bridge also. And I have found out, dental work is NOT cheap! He did go ahead and do a skin graft on the other tooth, so I am nursing a sore mouth.

Caden's ear tube surgery is scheduled for 7 am Tuesday morning, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He will have his follow-up appointment and allergy testing on Sept. 20. He has testing for the school system on Sept. 28. We aren't sure that we will be sending him to school when he turns 3, but we have to have the testing done anyways.

Please keep the Rubio family, who lost their young daughter Maddie to mito, in your prayers. Please also keep Ellie, a young girl with mito who is recovering from surgery to place a feeding tube, in your prayers. Please pray for healing miracles for Alexa Nichols, Gary Black, Brandon Clark, and Sarah Hessler.

Thanks for checking on all of us. We appreciate your kind words in the guestbook when you visit! I hope you all have a great week!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Spoiled Rotten"

Wow! As Benji's mom pointed out in the guestbook, I started this page 2 years ago (Sept.1)!!! I can't believe it's been so long and we have come so far!

Well, Caden's vomiting was definitely the stomach virus because by Friday afternoon, Jeremy and I were taking turns throwing up ourselves! My mom and dad had gone to my sister's house in Breckinridge, so they couldn't come get Caden out of the house with us, AND my mom wasn't feeling very good either. So, my sister, being the great aunt that she is, set out on her way to make the 2.5 hour trip to come get Caden. My mom made part of the trip with her until she started throwing up just before Abilene, so Kim left her at a hotel for my dad and brother-in-law to come get on their way from the football game. Sound like a TOTAL mess???? Well, it was! Kim got here about 11:00 and we loaded Caden's stuff up and got him out of bed and she took him back to my mom & dad's house because it was closer than her house. Caden stayed awake the whole trip! By Saturday morning, my dad was throwing up too. Kim kept him and mom quarantined in their bedroom and far away from Caden and the virus seems to have stopped there. This was the worst thing I have ever had, and I can't imagine Caden having to feel like we felt. It's not fair for a little guy to have to be that sick. Everyone seems to be on the mend now. Jeremy somehow managed to get out of bed yesterday morning and got himself to the bus for the cross-country meet. Thank goodness Coach Halfmann was there to drive the girls to Abilene and back for him! I only made it out of bed to get on the couch for the rest of the day. We haven't accomplished much more than that today. Caden is still at my mom's. Thank goodness Kim never got sick and has been able to take good care of the Little Man! Obviously there was more than 1 reason for Caden to NOT have his surgery on Thrusday!!!

I think it all started at daycare. Veronica called me at school Friday and told me that something was going around up there and many of the kids had diarrhea. She kept Caden by himself all day on Friday so he wouldn't get it again, and he didn't........thank goodness!!

The Lady Hawks & Hawks won the cross-country meet yesterday!!
~*~Way to girls & guys!!! Keep it up!!~*~

I got Caden's Yoda suit in the mail yesterday for Halloween. I made sure I ordered it really early this year so we weren't left in a bind like we were last year! It's too cute!

I also received some of the Curious George decorations for Caden's birthday party. More too cute!!!

I hope you all have a great Labor Day tomorrow!!! Don't forget Caden's surgery on Sept. 12, and I have to have some oral surgery on Sept. 8. Thanks for checking on us! Caden is doing really well........much better than the rest of us!!!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & The Only Well One

Thursday~~
Well, there was no surgery today! Last night when Caden was getting ready to go to bed, he spit up pretty bad on me, but we didn't think much about it because he went onto sleep and was fine. Well, about 12 am last night he started crying so I went in to get him and there was throw up all over him and his bed. Had that been the end of it, we probably would have gone ahead with the surgery, BUT he continued to throw up about every 15 minutes until 5 am this morning. He has NEVER thrown up that much or that badly ever before. He and I were sitting in the recliner and we would both nod off to sleep between episodes, but then he'd wake up and need to vomit. He finally got to the point of dry heaving and we felt so sorry for him. We contemplated the ER about 3 am, but stayed here. He finally was able to sleep for a little time about 5 am......just after the hospital called to see if we knew what time to be there. So we talked to the girl from day surgery and decided it would be best to reschedule. It's hard enough for them to start an IV on him under good circumstances, much less when he had no liquids in his body. Last night I kept wondering if there was some reason this was happening or if there was some reason we weren't supposed to do the surgery today. Then today I found out that I was right! The nurse at Dr. Walvoord's office had put Caden's diagnosis and the increased chance of complications with anesthesia (malignant hypothermia) in the computer and the notes for the anesthesiologist, but he had not been seen all the information until just before time for surgery. Well, he wanted to be very cautious and he wanted to see Caden's records from his past surgeries before he did anything. The nurse told me today that it was meant for the surgery to be put off because when he saw those notes this morning, he would have put everything on hold until he could prepare better. I am just glad we weren't at the hospital and waiting for the surgery when all that happened! So, EVERYTHING happens for a reason!!!

His surgery has been rescheduled for Sept. 12 at 7 am at Community. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes, and could you please send some more our way on the 11th & 12th!!!

My mom and dad went ahead and came to our house to help me us out, so I got to take a little nap this afternoon, which was nice. Caden took a nap earlier and is sleeping in his Papaw's lap right now.

That is all for today. Thanks for checking on us!

Wednesday~~
Happy Hump Day!!
Well, I finally got the other video on here. I hope everyone is having a good week. Ours has been pretty good! At school, though, we have been without water for most of the week. Can you believe that??? From Sunday night to Monday afternoon, we got 4.5 inches of rain! When we all got to school Monday morning, we had no water, so they called in the porta-potties!! I know....YUCK!! It was supposed to be back on my lunch that day, but still wasn't when school was out. Then it was off again yesterday until they could fix a major leak behind the school, only to have it start leaking again this morning, so you guessed it.......no water today until after lunch! I think it is finally fixed.

The cross-country girls and guys ran great Saturday and both won their division of the meet in Eula!!! This week they run at ACU in Abilene.

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks cross-country!! Run fast!!Let's win another one!!~*~

Caden's ear tube surgery is tomorrow morning at 8 am. Please keep us all, including the doctor and anesthesiologist, in your prayers tomorrow! This will be Caden's 6th time to be put under general anesthesia and he has done well each time. Please pray this time will be the same!!!

He is doing great! Lindsay is working out wonderfully taking him to therapy Wed, Thur, & Fridays. It's really been great for me to have some help with all that! She said he did really good today. He was doing some tummy time the other day and held his head up for 25 seconds!!! That is a record!

This year, we are having Caden's first BIG birthday celebration where we invite other kids. He'll be 3 on October 8. We even have a Fun Jump coming!! I hope all his buddies from daycare can make it a great party!

I guess that is about all for today. Please keep Caden, Brandon Clark, Gary Black, Sarah Hessler, & Alexa Nichols in your prayers! Thanks for checking on us!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. New Ear Tubes"

Wednesday~~
Happy Hump Day!!!

SAN ANGELO PEOPLE.............don't forget to "FILL THE BOOT" FOR MDA today, Thursday, & Friday!!! Mitochondrial Disorders are considered Muscular Dystrophies, so help raise money for kids like Caden!!! Look for those hardworking firefighters at all the intersections in town and give them all your loose change....or $$$$ bills!!!

Today will be Lindsay's first day to pick up Caden and take him to therapy for us. I know she will do a great job and everything will be perfect!!

Tuesday~~
Well, I don't know what happened to all the stuff I added the other day, but it didn't end up on Caden's page! It's somewhere out there in cyberspace! I did finally realize that the calendar was still July, so I changed it to August since it's almost time to put September on here!!! Silly me!

Today was the 5th day of school and this year is going really well. My students are really good and well-behaved. Mr. Caden adapted to our new schedule pretty well by about Friday of last week, then we slept late this weekend and he got all screwed up again! He will be used to it again by tonight or tomorrow. He will probably go to bed earlier tonight and be fine in the morning.

Caden is doing great besides the early mornings! He's a little grumpy at 6:30 am!! Yesterday, when I got to daycare to pick him up, our speech therapist was still with him. They were playing with trucks! He loved it! He was pushing that big truck around on his tray and knocking it off in the floor. Then our SLP would say "Uh Oh!" and Caden was saying it too! Then she would say "TRuuuuck???......Wheeere arrre yooouuuu???" and he wasn't saying the words, but he was babbling in the same tone she was using like he wanted to say the words, but couldn't get them out! But you could definitely tell he was "calling" the truck!! He was also making a roaring sound for the engine of the truck! It was VERY cool!

His nutritionist came to see him yesterday also. He has gained 1 lb. since June, and grown a 1/4 an inch!!!! Yeah!!! He is eating really well right now. He is still tolerating little chunks and will eat things like graham crackers when they have been softened by liquid or yogurt.

I have the video of him working on sitting up, but it's on a site that is blocked here at school, so I will have to add it from home. It's also out there in cyberspace also!!

Jeremy's cross-country team has their first meet this weekend. It should be exciting!!!

~*~Good luck Hawks & Lady Hawk CC!!! Run fast!!~*~

My mom and dad's central air conditioner went out this weekend. Not good! They have to replace the whole outside unit. Can you imagine how hot it is when the temp. is 95-100 right now??? Luckily, they had a room that had been added on before they bought this house and it has a window unit, plus my sister had left a window unit at their house when she sold her house, so they put it in their bedroom until they can get the big unit replaced.

We went to eat lunch in Abilene on Saturday to celebrate my dad and brother-in-law's birthdays. Jeremy and I had to come straight back because we had a wedding to go to that night. Veronica babysat Caden for us. The wedding was very nice!

I guess that is about it for family updates. Please continue to pray for Caden and Dr. Walvoord and the anesthesiologist for his upcoming ear tube surgery. Please pray for Caden's allergy testing in Sept. Please also pray for complete healing for Sarah Hessler, Alexa Nichols, Brandon Clark, and Gary Black. Alexa is making it very well at school, so I offer Praise that she is here with us every day. Mrs. Hessler got to come to school today and had lunch for us, so I offer Praise for that too!

I hope you all have a great week!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Grumpy @ 6:30 am"

Friday~~

I really wasn't lying.......I added all kinds of things to Caden's page, and now it's not there!!! I added it from home, so I'll have to try again this weekend.

The first week of school has gone well! We are really tired though!!

Caden's not happy when I wake him up early in the mornings! He'll get used to it though. He's already adjusting by going to sleep earlier.

Have a great weekend!!

I added a new video of Caden working on sitting up!!!

I also just realized that I still had the July calendar on the page!! Ha! I guess it's about time I changed it, huh........since it's closer to September than July!!

Well, the first day of school is over! It seemed pretty long, but all my classes were full of great kids! The bus wasn't too bad even. All together it was a great start to a new year! I have a class 1st period this year, so I really have to get my bottom moving in the mornings to make sure I get there on time!! Our new principal is great. You could have heard a pin drop in the assembly this morning, and that was a change!

Alexa was at school today!!! She looked really great and everyone was happy to see her! She will be coming for 4 hours each day to take the only classes she has left. It's SO AWESOME that she is able to be with us at Wall. We are all grateful!! Please continue to pray for her to be healed and walking again someday!

Mrs. Hessler was able to be at our work day at school yesterday. She, too, looked GREAT!! She had another knee surgery that was worse than they expected, so she won't be able to come back to school right away, but she will be up there once a week and will be back full time ASAP!! We are SO GRATEFUL that she can be with us too. Please continue to pray for complete healing of her feet, ankles, and knee.

Caden is great! He DID NOT want to get up early this morning, so he's a little grumpy today, but he will get used to the new schedule. He's been eating well at school and at home. Please pray for his ear tube surgery on Aug. 31, and his allergy tests on Sept. 20.

Calling all San Angelo residents...........Next Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday is the fire department's Fill The Boot Campain, so be looking for those hard working firemen at all the intersections and take all your loose change and fill those boots!! All proceeds go to the MDA, and mitochondrial disorders are part of MDA!!!

I guess that is about it for today. My mom and dad's anniversary was yesterday. It's been A LOT of years, but I am not sure how many.....more than 35 because I remember that one was a few years ago. They are going to Fredericksburg for 2 days to celebrate. Then, my dad's birthday is the 24th and my brother-in-law's is the 25th, so we will go to Abilene this weekend to eat with them.

Have a great "rest of the week"!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Grumpy"

Check out Caden kicking his ball and laughing to keep from having to take a nap in the new video montage!!! Just click PLAY!!!

Caden's ENT appointment went well this morning. We really liked Dr. Walvoord. Caden's ears are full of thick glue-like fluid behind the eardrums. They aren't infected, but are full and that could be hindering his hearing, balance, and all kinds of things. Dr. Walwoord said usually a child only requires 1 set of tubes. Well, this will be Caden's 3rd set. He said since he's still having the infections and all that allergies are probably helping to cause them, so we are also going to do allergy testing next month. Right now, Caden's tube surgery is scheduled for September 7, but the nurse is trying to get it bumped up. Usually it wouldn't take that long to get in, but we have to do it at the hospital instead of the day surgery clinic because of the precautions they will have to take with the anesthesia. I will post if it gets changed. His allergy testing will then be done on Sept. 20.

Caden also had to have blood taken while we were at the hospital to check his Tegretol levels in his blood. They sent us to the hospital lab for the first time, and I am soooo glad they did!! The lab tech pricked his finger and got the blood for the test instead of having to try to poke him with the needle a bunch of times (our usual blood draw experience). It was great! He didn't even cry!! He didn't like her mashing his thumb to get each drop of blood, but it was SOOOOO much better for all of us to do it this way!! From now on, we will know to ask for the finger prick instead of the needle!!!

Please keep Houston Guy and his family in your prayers. Please pray that God will give them peace and comfort since losing their dad, John Guy, yesterday morning.

Alexa Nichols is coming home from Houston today. One of the nurses in Dr. Walvoord said all her friends were at her house decorating it for her arrival and they were all going to meet her at the airport! Great news!!

It's officially only 1 week until school starts. I am a little ready for it, but I really need to get up there and get my room ready for kids. My last inservice was a good one. I learned to use a program to make webpages. IF (that's a BIG IF) I get some extra time, I might make Caden a new one, but that is a ways down the road. I am definitely going to try to get one made for my classromm so my kids can get to it and get assignments and stuff off of it.

I think that is all for today. I hope you are having a great HUMP day! Thanks for stopping by!!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. "I Need New Tubes"

Tuesday~

Please pray for the Guy family. John Guy passed away this morning.

Monday~

Sorry for the lack of updates.........we have been internet-less for several days. We switched from one provider to another, and when we did, the new provider kicked us off their service because some PUNK somewhere was using our IP address to do illegal things like download new movies and such. So, long story short, it still isn't totally fixed, but enough for me to have a little time to get on here and explain!

Caden is doing well! Mrs. Veronica was swinging him today at daycare and she would stop him and ask him if he wanted more and he told her "more" several times!!! He was a bit cranky this afternoon and evening, but I am thinking he might not have had a very good nap today. He went to sleep a little early tonight.

Caden has his appointment with the ENT Wednesday. We feel that replacing the tubes in his ears will be very beneficial to Caden. Hopefully, the ENT feels the same way.

Jeremy and I were guest speakers for a special education class at ASU today. 2 girls that work at Mosaic are taking the class, so they asked us to come talk to the class about what all we have had to do since Caden was born and what all we do with and for him today. It was good. The students asked good questions and we thought we were going to be talking for 15-30 minutes and we looked up and it had been an hour and a half!!!

I have my last inservice tomorrow before school starts, and Jeremy has his last one Thursday. I can't believe it's already time to go back. I am actually ready for our routine again. Jeremy started cross-country practice this week. They are working out early in the morning and in the evening both. It won't be but 2 weeks until they have their first meet! He reports that the girls are running well already and the team looks strong!

We had a house full of family and fun this weekend. My sister and brother-in-law were here, along with Jeremy's brother. We had a marathon Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament after Caden was asleep Friday night. I was the BIG winner!!! Then we actually had a babysitter Saturday night and we all went to listen to some TX country music! Some of our very good friends were in San Angelo from Ft. Worth, so we also got to visit with them. Congrats to the Watts on the "bun-in-the-oven"!!! Prayers for wonderful pregnancy and beautiful baby for Trey & Cody!!! (Cody is a girl!!)

Alexa Nichols is coming home from the rehab facility in Houston!!! I hope she is feeling well enough to come visit everyone at school sometime soon. Please continue to pray for complete healing for her!

Please continue to pray for Gary Black and his family; John Guy and his family; Sarah Hessler and her family; and Brandon Clark and his family.

Thanks for checking in on all of us. I hope you are all having a great week!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. MORE

Friday, July 28

Friday ~ CADEN SLEPT!!! He didn't wake up all night long and is still sleeping at 10 am this morning! Thank goodness! Jeremy and I feel lots better this morning, and I am sure Caden will when he wakes up!

He said "more" and "mama" for Mrs. Veronica and the speech therapist yesterday. He actually said "more" like 5 times! He told me "no" last night when I asked him if he wanted to brush his teeth!! We brushed anyways!

Caden and I will be spending the weekend at my mom and dad's house while Jeremy goes to Austin to his brother's house. Prayers for safe travel for everyone!

I offer praise that my dad's
"procedure" went well yesterday!

Have a great weekend!!

Thursday ~
Caden was up again for a long time last night! We are ALL zombies! Maybe tomorrow night he'll sleep! Otherwise, he seems fine.

My dad has a "procedure" today. Prayers that it goes well!

Wednesday ~
Caden seems all better today. He did great at OT and PT this morning, so we took him to daycare. No call from them, so it must have been a good day! He did wake up in the middle of the night last night and was up for HOURS, along with us! I hope it was just a fluke, but I'll let you know!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & still "Mr. Mystery"

Tuesday ~ 8:00 pm
Well, just when you think things are going well.......BAMMMM!!!! Our kiddo is throwing up!! (was throwing up)

Well, just after I typed that update yesterday, I got ready and went to get Caden at daycare. Well, they were about to call me because he had 100 point something fever. Okay, we can deal with that......then by the time we went and cancelled his OT and got home, it was GONE. Mysterious! So I gave him some Tylenol anyways and the evening went on as usual.

I had a dentist appointment in Abilene this morning (long story for another day) and Jeremy and Caden stayed home. Thank goodness! I called after my appointment was done, and Jeremy said Caden had thrown up twice. So, Jeremy started pushing Pedialyte and he didn't throw up again. I got home about 6:30 pm and he was laughing and having a ball. He had a bottle of formula just a little bit ago and has kept it down fine.

Any suggestions???? You guys probably have as many answers as I do!!! Ahhhh....the life of a mito kid! It definitely keeps you on your toes!! You just have to laugh about it sometimes.....mostly to keep from crying!!!

He seems great now and hasn't had any fever since Monday when I got him. I hope everyone else's week has started out better than ours!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Mystery
(I couldn't type any of the words for throw-up that came to mind!!!)

Monday ~ 2:00 pm
I wish I could say that the lack of updates was from our class at ASU, but I can't. When we went to "coaching school" the 2nd week of July, I thought we would be missing 2 days of the class......which I had cleared with the director. Well, for some reason, I guess I thought coaching school was a week earlier when I talked to the director, but the class started on July 5. SO, we missed those 2 days the whole week we were at coaching school!! Yep, they had to drop us from the class so they wouldn't lose some of their grant money. Thank goodness it didn't cost us anything!! I felt like a total heel, and I am sure I looked like one too. Jeremy was not looking to the class, so he was okay with us missing out on it. I hope to take it next summer. Huge mess!

Caden has been doing GREAT!! He didn't want to go to bed last night. Jeremy usually can't get him to fall asleep, but last night, I finally had to turn him over to Jeremy and he finally got him to sleep sometime after 11 pm! He was being so silly and cute! Everything was just sooooo funny to him and he was cracking up! I guess he was excited to be up past his bed time!

He continues to tell us "NO" sometimes. One day last week, Jeremy was getting his AFOs to put on him and asked him, "Caden, do you want to put your braces on?" Well, Caden responded, "NO!" So, Jeremy let him go with out them!!! Most parents aren't so excited to have their kids tell them no, are they???

That leads me to a new article I found. Those parents of special needs kids will love this.......

You know you have a child with special needs when.......

1. You compare ERs instead of grocery stores.
2. You compare your children's oxygen saturations.
3. You view every toy as "therapy."
4. You don't take a new day for granted.
5. You teach your child HOW to pull things out of the cupboard, off the bookcases, and HOW to say "NO."
6. The clothes your infant (or toddler) wore last fall still fit him/her this fall!
7. Everything is an educational opportunity instead of just having plain old fun.
8. You cheer instead of scold when they blow bubbles in their juice while sitting at the dinner table (that's speech therapy), smear ketchup all over their high chair (that's OT), or throw their toys (that's PT)!!!
9. You also don't mind if your child goes through the house tooting a tin whistle.
10. You fired at least 3 pediatricians and can teach your family doctor a thing or two.
11. You can name at least 3 genes on chromosome 21. (You really know your toast if you can spell the full names correctly!)
12. You have to spell your child's diagnosis for the nurse at the admissions desk at the hospital.
13. You have been told you are "in denial" by at least 3 medical or therapy professionals. This makes you laugh!
14. You have that incredible sinking feeling that you've forgotten SOMETHING on those few days that you don't have some sort of appointment somewhere!
15. You get irritated when friends with healthy kids complain about ONE sleepless night when their child is ill!
16. Your vocabulary consists of all the letters: OT, PT, SLP, ARD, VSD, IFSP, etc.
17. You keep your appointment at the specialist even though a tropical storm is raging because you just want to get this one over with....you waited 8 months to get it...and besides, no one else will be there!
18. Fighting and wrestling with siblings is PT.
19. Speech therpay occurs in the tub with a sibling.
20. When potty training is complete, you take out a full-page public notice in the newspaper.
21. When doctors/specialists/hospitals etc. all know you by your name without referring to your child's chart.
22. You keep a daily growth chart.
23. You calculate monthly statistics for the number of times your child vomits, and did this for more than one year.
24. You phone all your friends when your child sits up for the first time, at age two. (maybe age 4)
25. With a big smile on your face, you tell a stranger that your four year old just started walking last week.
26. His/her medical file is two inches thick and growing.

27.You have a new belief....that angels live with us on earth.

We have called Dr. T's (neurologist) office, but haven't gotten a return call. Remember he's supposed to be looking at Dr. Shoffner's results for Caden and seeing if His (Dr. T's) mito cocktail would benefit Caden. I will call again later and let you know when I find out something.

Caden's ENT appointment is Aug. 9.

Jeremy is playing in the yearly "Coaches Golf Tournament" today. His team has won the last 3 years, so let's hope they are doing well!!!

Please continue to pray for a healing miracle for Gary Black, John Guy, Brandon Clark, Alexa Nichols, & Sarah Hessler.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our family and Caden!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR SIGNING THE GUESTBOOK!!

We are all back at home after a long week away!

Caden seems to be back to his old self and I think the shots really helped. Of course I can't see in his ears like a dr. can, but he's sleeping great and acting great......(knock on wood!!) He had a very "uneventful" week while he stayed at my mom and dad's! We are very glad for that! By "uneventful" I mean not getting sick or anything like that. He was healthy and had a great time with MaMaw and PaPaw! He even went swimming one day with Aunt Rhonda!

~*~Thanks Mom and Dad for taking great care of Caden!!~*~
~*~Thanks Rhonda for taking him swimming!!~*~

Jeremy's coaching school was good. Kirsten, one of Jeremy's players from this past basketball season, got to play in the All-Star game on Thursday, and she even got to start the game and she played a lot!!! She did a really good job! Jeremy had a golf tournament on Tuesday, our first day there, so the other coaches and I went to Six Flags with my sister Kim and Kirsten. We had a blast!!! I bet we didn't wait more than 15 minutes to ride anything! But man........was it HOT!!! I got to sleep in every morning! It was very nice! Jeremy and I got back to Mom and Dad's house Friday, and we were glad to see the Little Man! By the time we waited for dinner, it was late, so we spent the night there. Then on Saturday, Jeremy and my brother-in-law had to help my dad fix some things, so it was later Saturday afternoon before we got home.

Jeremy isn't feeling too good. I think he may have the stuff I had 2 weeks ago.

Jeremy and I start our class at ASU tomorrow morning. It's only for these last 2 weeks of July......like 9 days actually, and we get 6 free graduate hours for it!! Good deal, huh??? It's a writing institute. It doesn't sound like it will be Jeremy's "cup of tea", but I think I will like it. We missed the first 2 days while we were gone last week, but they said that was okay.

I have a few prayer requests. Please pray for a healing miracle for a man named Gary Black who was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which has spread to other organs. Please pray for his wife Peggy, his daughter Shauna, and his son Brian.

Please continue to pray for a healing muracle for John Guy and Brandon Clark.

Please pray for strength and healing for Alexa Nichols and Sarah Hessler.

I guess that is all I have for tonight. I should already be in bed since we have to start getting up early tomorrow morning. I hope you all have a great week!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. "Uneventful" (knock on wood)

Sunday~~
Caden got his 2nd of 3 shots of Rocephin for his "not so happy ears." He got the first shot yesterday when we were at the doctor's office, then got the 2nd one this morning, and will get the last one tomorrow. You could tell that the shot yesterday made him fell better by yesterday evening. He was very happy and silly!! The doc also gave us some cream for the spots on his face, and they are better already. Not really sure what they are from! I guess we will be going to see the ENT when we get back next week. We don't ever want to expose Caden to any more procedures than we have to, but the tubes in his ears (missing tubes now) really help him out a lot. There are more pros from them than cons. On another note, as horrible as it may sound, Jeremy and I were glad when Caden got upset when the nurse rubbed his leg down with the alcohol swab before his shot. Terrible, huh?? BUT, that means that not only did he remember what happened yesterday with the alcohol swab, but he knew what was coming next. I would love to have this scenario happen with something better than a shot in his leg, but it's nice to know he knew what was happening.

Here are the boys relaxing on the couch....That's the sticker Caden got after his shot!

Have a good week!

Saturday~~
Caden told Mrs. Veronica "NO" twice yesterday when she asked him if he wanted to go outside!!!! Can you believe that??? I don't know why he wouldn't want to go outside, but I guess he didn't!!! He's making big strides!

He doesn't seem to be feeling "up-to-par" and he has 5 red spots on his face that look like bites, but they have a little white top on them. I would say they were fire ant bites if I didn't KNOW he was nowhere that an ant could have gotten his face! That's just what they remind me of.....He also had a low grade fever (99.6) yesterday. I think we are going to take him in to see the doctor in a little bit, just to be safe. I'll post if we find anything out of the ordinary is going on. Oh, what IS ordinary for this kid???!!! HA!

Have a good weekend!

Thursday~~
Wow, I have waited too long to put this update on here, and there is so much to tell!!

Great new developments in the world of "The Little Man"!!! Our speech therapist, Mrs. Veronica, and another girl from daycare reported that Caden said.........YES, I said "SAID".........MORE and YEAH!!!!! Of course, Jeremy and I were sceptical, but then our speech therapist came to see Caden at our house last Friday, and I heard him say MORE and something VERY similar to MAMA!!!! Then this week at my sister's house, my sister Kim, was clicking her tongue at Caden and she asked him if he could do it and he, PLAIN AS DAY, said "NO" to her!!! Then he was kicking his beach ball yesterday and Jeremy grabbed it and asked him if he wanted to kick it some more, then he waited.....and waited.....and Caden said "MORE"!!!! Isn't that GREAT????!!!!

Caden was a little sick this past weekend. He was okay part of the day Saturday, then we gave him a full bottle of Pediasure and he took his afternoon nap and threw it up all over his bed! He's never thrown up while he was sleeping, EVER. So then he continued to throw up until he completely emptied his stomach of the Pediasure and was dry heaving, then I got some Pedialyte in him and he didn't throw up again. So, we are struggling with knowing if it was the Pediasure, or a virus. Who knows! Then he ran a little fever Sat. night and Sun. morning and was very lethargic. We were supposed to go on to my mom and dad's house Sunday, but we were struggling with wether we should go, or wait and take Caden in to see the doc Monday morning. So, we called the doc on-call and he said there wasn't much we could do since he wasn't throwing up anymore, and his fever was borderline even being a fever. We were mainly worried because we couldn't get him to drink ANYTHING, no formula or Pedialyte, so we were worried about dehydration. So, we decided to wait awhile and let Caden take his nap. After his nap, his fever was gone, and he drank a whole bottle of Pedialyte. He seemed to be feeling much better.

So, we went as far as my mom and dad's house Sunday, then we went on to my sister's house for the 4th of July from Monday until yesterday. Monday morning I woke up with a TERRIBLE sore throat and sinus. Caden seemed to be better. We got to Kim's house and hung out and swam. My other sister came that night from Dallas. Jeremy and my brother-in-law got to go play golf. Then my BIL, Bryan's, family came to Kim's on Tuesday. We all had a big B-B-Q lunch and swam, then everyone went home and we stayed one more night at Kim's. I still have a sore throat, but it's a little better this morning, and Caden is still doing okay, but is a little congested this morning.

Yep, you asked for them...............here are some pictures from the pool. I tried to crop myself out of most of them!!! Caden seemed to like the water even more than last summer. He really kicked his legs a lot more than last year.

He was a little mad in this one.......I think it was the shades!!

Jeremy has coaching school next week, so Caden will be staying with my parents while we go to Arlington from Tuesday to Friday. It will be a nice little vacation. Please pray that Caden is healthy and all goes well while we are gone.

Our beloved rocker/recliner, AKA "Caden's Nest", broke last week! Caden and I have spent MANY hours rocking in that chair over the last 2 1/2 years, and we had it 2 1/2 years before Caden came. We had to go pick out a new one yesterday because we can't go without a rocking chair around here!! Mr. Independent really does still like to rock a little! Jeremy has to go pick up the chair later today.

I guess that is about all for this update. Please pray for our good friend, Houston's, father who is battling cancer. His name is John Guy. Please also pray for peace and understanding for the family of little Kathryn Kuhlmann, a young girl from San Angelo who lost her life to leukemia yesterday morning. Please pray for complete healing for Sarah Hessler, and a healing miracle for Alexa Nichols.

Thank you all for checking in on Caden and the rest of us. We really appreciate the kind words you leave in the guestbook. I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful 4th of July!!! I can't believe it's already JULY!! Have a great weekend!!!

Hugs and love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. "MORE"

***New Pictures in Photo Album**

Yesterday, I forgot to add that we asked our neurologist about needing to repeat Caden's MRI since it's been a couple of years, and he said that as long as we don't see any "clinical" regression......see Caden losing skills or going backwards.......that he doesn't see the need to do an MRI. That was good!

Happy Friday!!! It's funny how Fridays don't seem to be that big a deal during the summer.......at least not near what they are during the school year!! In fact, during the summer, Fridays just indicate another week of our summer is been and gone. That's not a good thing!

Caden is doing well. He's happy and I think he's glad to be back in his daily routine of daycare, friends, and seeing Mrs. Veronica! Did I tell you all that he is putting himself to sleep now??? Yep, a very sad day around here.......I don't get to rock him to sleep anymore. I know, I should be happy because he's growing up and developing, but I'm a rocker, and I really liked rocking him to sleep. Night before last, I was determined to rock him to sleep, but the longer I rocked, the more WIDE awake he was, so I finally gave up and put him in he bed......and ~POOF~ ten minutes later........he was SOUND asleep! Yep, Mr. Independent!

Our visit with the neurologist went well on Wednesday. This is Dr. Tomasovic, the VERY FIRST neurologist we ever saw. He spent 20 minutes with us, that first time, and threw out those dreaded words "mitochondrial disorder." We, of course, were devastated, and thought he was CRAZY, so we have been trying to find a new neurologist ever since! We did see Dr. T one more time, but that was 2 years ago. Well, we thought it over, and decided that he at least had some knowledge of mito, and he comes here from San Antonio every 2 months, so we can see him here, and that lead to us giving him another try. It went well. Our results from Dr. Shoffner's muscle biopsy said that copies of the results were sent to Dr. Tomasovic, so we assumed (we'll learn not to do that) that he had the results and would have looked over them. Yep, we should've called and checked. He hadn't recieved them, so he had little time to really look at them while we were there. He does have experience with mito, which has been very hard to find in a neurologist here in TX. He even treats a few patients with confirmed mito. In fact, he has his own version of a "mito cocktail" that he has come up with while working with a Dr. Haas in San Diego. Now, Dr. Haas' name would have meant nothing to us a week ago, but he is one of the great doctors we got to listen to at the UMDF Mito conference last weekend! When they had the "Ask the Mito Doc" panel, Dr. Haas was the one who the other 2 doctors looked to to answer all the questions that came up about treatment of mito. So, we feel very confident that Dr. Haas and Dr. Tomasovic have come up with a good combination of vitamins for a "cocktail." This one is made up of 6 different vitamins instead of just 3 that Caden takes now. He didn't name them to us yet, but he has vacation until July 9, then he will look over Caden's results from Shoffner, and we will talk about if his "cocktail" is right for Caden. He has had some very good results with other patients using it, so we are anxious to see if it will help Caden too. We also talked to him about the time-released form of Tegretol for Caden's movement disorder. The only problem is that Caden is on such a low dosage of it, and the time-released form only comes in a higher doseage than he takes now. So, in order to change, we will have to wait until Caden's blood levels show he needs a higher dose. See, they take Caden's blood and check to see how much Tegretol is in it, and we shoot for a 10-12......12 being the highest we want to go before we might see side effects. I believe last time we were at 10, which is just right, but that was before he grew so much the last couple months. We will be having the blood levels done next week.

One of the things we heard about from several of the parents at the conference is having Caden's gene sequencing done by Dr. Shoffner. This is something he touched on a little when Jeremy and I saw him after the muscle biopsy results came. We kinda left it at "we'll see what the insurance says about covering it." Well, that is the last we heard of it. A couple of the parents we talked to have gotten their kids sequencing done, and Shoffner found the exact defect that caused their mito to occur. One mother then had her blood tested and found that she did NOT have the same gene defect, so her son's mito happened sporatically. That means that she could have more kids with a VERY tiny chance of it happening again. Another couple are still waiting to find out about the mother's blood, but by finding the exact defect, it will help them tailor their treatment for their little boy, as in helping them know exactly what to give him and all. So, we are calling Dr. Shoffner's office to get the ball rolling on the gene sequencing. They will use muscle from the biopsy that they still have frozen, so Caden will not have to go through any more tests. It can take up to a year to find out, so don't hold your breath!!!

Yesterday, we got Caden's speech therapist changed back to Therese. She is the best speech therapist he's had, and we are very happy to have her back. She did A LOT with Mr. Man, and she will be totally excited to see the textures he's eating! He hasn't had any speech therapy this month, so she's going to see him 4 times next week to make up for what he's missed! Awesome, huh??

I guess that is about all for now. Please continue to pray for Sarah Hessler, John Guy, Brandon Clark, Alexa Nichols, and all the mito kids and families out there. We have chances for rain all weekend, and cooler temperatures........which are a VERY welcome thing around here!!! Have a great weekend!! Thanks for checking in on us!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Independent

I know you are all wanting to know how the conference went, and it was GREAT!!! We learned a lot, but we also have A LOT more to learn!!! The best part was getting to meet other parents of mito kids, and parents that we know from their kids' websites and email. We had a great time with Rachelle and John, a couple from Louisiana that have a 3 yr. old son MUCH like Caden. We loved meeting and hanging out with Sonya and Scott, Taylor's parents; Leslie and Bernard, Morgan's parents; Mindy and Eric, Elena's parents; Bonnie and Jeff, Patrick's parents; and many others. I imagine there were about 300 people/parents there for the conference. Give or take a few!

Some of the information from some of the doctors was way too scientific for us to really grasp, but a lot of it was very helpful. We heard a lot about what research they are doing, and they are getting closer, but it will still be awhile before they find any real treatments or cures. BUT, we will remain very hopeful from what they talked about. They are doing so much that we will try to go to the conference every summer so we can talk to the doctors and hear all the latest. Also, so we can talk to the other parents and meet new ones, and keep up with how their children are doing. We met a couple that have a daughter with defects in ALL 5 complexes and she wasn't supposed to make it to age 2, but she is 11 now and can walk and point to things she wants, and she is doing well. That was very hopeful!

Caden has an appointment with Dr. Tomasovic, the neurologist at 1:00 today, so we are getting ready to go to that. He got his Thera-Togs last week before we left, and they are great. They give him an instant boost in his muscle tone. He's been feeling good, and hasn't had any more fever since he got his shot last Monday. He's still doing GREAT with chunky food. All I have to do is fork mash most things and he can eat them. It's AWESOME! He's reall being a "Terrible Two" at times when he wants something or doesn't want to do something!!! He can throw quite the temper tantrum! We are working on a "better way" to comunicate his wants, likes, and dislikes!!! That may take awhile!!!

Jeremy had a good Father's Day. We were here with his dad and step-mom, and my family. We went out to lunch, then Jerry and Sharon headed back to NM. My family stayed a little while and we sat around and visited about the conference.

~*~Thanks a lot Jerry & Sharon for all you did while we were gone to Atlanta!!~*~

Jeremy and I have finally had a few days of summer this week. Days where we don't have to really be anywhere or do anything. Monday we took Caden to daycare and rested the remainder of the day. We were exhausted from the trip. There wasn't much down time while we were there. We had meetings from 8 am each morning until late in the afternoon each day, then Sunday, our flight home left Atlanta at 6:40 am, their time, which is 5:40 am our time!!! We were up at about 3 am our time to get ready to go and get to the airport!!!

I guess that is about all I have to report. There was a nice article in yesterday's Standard Times about Mrs. Hessler, our journalism teacher that was in the car accident in May. Please continue to pray for her healing of both feet and ankles, her right knee, and restored vision in her right eye. Please pray for a healing miracle for John Guy and Brandon Clark as they battle cancer. Please also pray for a healing miracle and strength and courage for Alexa Nichols. Please pray for the doctors and researchers who are looking for a cure for Mito disorders. Jeremy and I learned other parents are WAY ahead of us n raising money for the UMDF and research, so we have to get on the ball. We want to have a big golf tournament next summer, so BE READY!!!!

Hugs and Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Tantrum

Well, we are leaving for Atlanta in about 2 hours! Jeremy and I are going to the UMDF Mitochondrial Disease Conference. We hope to learn LOTS of new stuff about mito, and hopefully we will hear more about this new treatment Dr. Shoffner hopes to have soon. We are also looking forward to meeting other parents who have kids like Caden. We fly out of San Angelo in 2 hours and come back Sunday morning. Please say a little prayer for us that we have safe travels to and from Atlanta.

Jeremy's dad and step-mom are here to keep Caden. They will have lots of fun for the next 2 days! Sunday, my mom, dad, sister, and her husband and maybe his parents are coming to San Angelo to celebrate Father's Day and hear all about the conference.

Jeremy and I have a recorder to get all the info with! Neither of us could have remembered everything!

Caden got fitted in his Thera-Togs this morning. They are neat, but will be hot this summer because he has to wear them under his clothes. We are having PT and OT in the mornings this summer. Our summer OT's name is Barbi and Caden loves her! We just found out today that she grew up at Lake Coleman, where my parents live, and her dad is the wardon at the lake and is good friends with my parents. Small world, huh???

EXCITING NEWS............Caden ate CHUNKS this past weekend!!!!! Can you all believe it?? To anyone who has prayed for his eating, THANK YOU!!! It's working!! I have included some not so tasty looking photos of the texture he ate last night. It was so awesome!

I know, I know, I know...........................
I have kept you all waiting a very long time for an update. It has been really crazy around here, especially the last week of school. After we got out of school, we had 2 days off and then had to go back Wed. & Thurs. for inservice. They really should do those days in August when we are ready for the next year and not so tired from they year that just ended!!! Let's see, since I updated last, Jeremy and I played in a faculty vs. Seniors basketball game, and it ended in a tie....41-41!!! Then we took one day off then played in a school organization's volleyball tournament. Then the following day, I drove the bus for the Spanich Club to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. It was a tiring few days, and it took most of the next week for us to recover!!! I guess the week before the last week of school is the busiest week because that is when we have all the banquets and end-of-year activities.

Caden has been doing really well. We had his last IFSP meeting for ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) until he turns 3 and leaves the program. It was two and a half hours long!!! All our therapists got to attend, so they all had lots of great info to offer and things to talk about. Caden has been eating really well lately. This morning he drank a little of his formula out of a sippy cup!!! He does okay with an open top cup, but he hasn't really ever taken to a sippy cup, so that is what we are working on. Our nutritionist will come next week, so we will get to see if and how much he's grown the past month. He has been going to daycare almost every day since we still had inservice and all. Next week he will be going because Jeremy has basketball camp, and there are SO many girls this year that I have to help work too!!! It's better to keep him on his schedule for daycare anyways, and he LOVES Mrs. Veronica and all his buddies. The kids in his class have been SO cute lately. They all have to come give him a hug when he gets there and they all yell out his name! The sad part of that is starting Monday, he will be moving up to the next classroom and leaving them all behind. We do know a couple of the kids in the next room, and I am sure they will all love each other just like Caden and his buddies do now. Plus, the kids from his room now will catch up to him before we know it!

There is a GREAT running organization for young kids and junior high and high school kids here in town that used to be called the Running Lizards, but is now called FIT San Angelo. Gene Adams runs the organization and he does a WONDERFUL job of getting kids out there running and exercising. Several of our high school cross-country girls and guys run for FIT during the summers. Those kids got together with Gene and organized a run/walk for Caden and it was this morning. They had a 5 mile, a 10 mile, and a 1 mile run, and there were lots of people (including us) that walked the course. It was a lot of fun and it raised money and awareness for Caden and Mitochondrial Disorders. I hope to work with Gene next summer and do the same type of thing to raise money for research at the UMDF, United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. I also want to have a golf tournament to raise money for research.

*~*A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped organize the run/walk and to all who participated in the run/walk!!! It means so much to us that you all care about Caden, Jeremy, and I so much.
THANK YOU all SO MUCH!!!*~*

Here is a picture from Caden's Run....

I have another report from another family that just talked to Dr. Shoffner that he thinks he will have a type of treatment for Mito in the next 24 months. Isn't that exciting??? Not a cure, but they are still working hard for that too. Now, all we have to try is vitamins for energy, so anything else that could help is exciting!

Jeremy's mom, Lynda, came and visited us over Memorial Day weekend. We grilled some great food, did a little shopping, and just hung out. We were glad to have her!!

I am happy to report that Mrs. Hessler got to come home yesterday from the hospital in Austin!!!! I haven't been over to see her yet, but hope to go tomorrow. We are just excited she's back here so we can offer her more support. Please continue to pray for her complete healing of her feet and legs, pray for her not to be in pain, and pray for her sight to return in her right eye.

Alexa has been in Houston for 2 weeks now. I have heard they are working her really hard in her therapies, and everything is going well. As of now, they doctors report that she is paralyzed from the waist down, but we all BELIEVE she WILL walk again! Please continue to pray for a healing miracle for her!

Please pray for Brandon Clark, as he is still having lots of pain from his surgeries to remove the cancer in his body. I have been told that while he was in the hospital fighting all those infections after the first surgery, they missed the "window of opportunity" to treat the cancer with chemo and radiation, so now they are facing lots of emotional issues surrounding that news. I didn't know such a thing exhisted in treating cancer, but apparently it does with a surgery. Please pray for a healing miracle for him and strength and understanding for his family.

Please also pray for a family in Breckenridge, TX, who just had a little boy born with a rare vascular disorder. Please pray for a healing miracle for the baby boy.

I think that is just about all that is going on around here. We will be taking Caden to a neurologist appointment on the 15th for a follow-up visit. Besides that, we will be busy with therapies all summer. We are going to 3 days of PT and 3 days of OT a week!!! That's a lot of therapy! I hope you are all having a great summer! I promise I will do better at updating the rest of the summer!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Piggy

Well, another week is starting and the countdown to the last day of school continues......only 7 more school days left. Actually 6.5 because we are only here until noon next Thursday! My students are working hard on their poetry notebooks, which will count as their semester test grade, so I have a little free time to do this update and finish grading left-over papers.

Please continue to pray for Sarah Hessler. She is doing better. Yesterday was a good day. Sarah sat up just a little bit and was able to raise herself off the bed just a little as well. Her IV has been adjusted to give her a little more mobility within the bed. This morning Sarah was moved from the bed briefly. She got a bath and sat up a little bit. Today Sarah is in more pain and is feeling nauseas probably from pain medicine on an empty stomach.
Every other day doctors are removing the bandage from Sarah’s right foot to clean up and repair the wound. Mr. Hines said that this procedure hurts quite a bit, but he thinks this might be a good sign because it indicates healing.

I know most of you reading this don't know Mrs. Hessler, but you do all know how important love, support, and encouragement is during a difficult time. If you have an extra minute and would like to send a card or letter, I know she would appreciate it greatly. Her is the address:

Sarah Hessler
Brackenridge Hospital
601 E 15th St
Austin, Texas 78701

Don't worry about the room number. She may be moved to a different room at anytime, but the hospital will make sure it gets to her!!!

Please also continue to pray for Alexa. She is doing better and has had her feeding tube removed. They are planning on moving her to the rehabilitation facility in Houston at the end of this week.

We made it home from Austin just fine. It was not easy to travel on the road where Sarah and Kate's accident happened, but we made it to and from Austin with ease. Yesterday stayed long enough to have lunch with my mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law since they were all still in Austin too. I got some pretty house plants, a gift card, a little cash, and a pretty "MOM" locket for Mother's Day. The locket was from Caden!

Caden slept TERRIBLY Saturday night. I bet he was up almost every hour on the hour. Then yesterday, he slept about 45 minutes in the car, which as most of you know is practically UNHEARD of for him. He usually NEVER sleeps in the car, so I know he was tired. I bet he had a long nap today at daycare!!! Besides that, he was a good boy all weekend!

Tonight is the Sports Banquet, and Veronica is going to babysit for us. Veronica is the lady that takes care of Caden at daycare. She is so wondrful with him.

The Sports Banquet brings back bitter memories from this time last year. Exactly one year ago yesterday, we received our results from Caden's muscle biopsy from Atlanta. I remember the results came in the mail that afternoon, and I got home just in time to change into my dress and get back in the car to go to the banquet, so I had to read them on the way out here to Wall. Poor Jeremy offered a hundred times to turn around and take me home, but I wouldn't let him. Needless to say, it was a tough night. I know some of the people there thought I was a total "you-know-what" because I hardly remember talking to anyone. As bad as we had wanted to know what was going on, to actually have the papers with those words, Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, on them was hard to deal with. Thankfully, Caden has been doing well this past year, and improving, even if it's by "inchstones."

In the past year since his diagnosis, Caden has come quite far! He's doing many things he couldn't do a year ago, and we are so proud of him!!! He is still far behind physically, but cognitively, he's making improvements. Physically, he's getting stronger every day. He has the cutest personality these days. As I said before it's so much easier to make him laugh and smile. He's much happier than he's ever been. He really enjoys his SILLY daddy and his silly tricks! He makes silly sounds and silly faces. He really has come a long way!!!

I guess that is all the reminiscing I have for today. I hope you have a nice Monday and a great week. Thank you all for checking on Caden! Please sign the guestbook and let us know you were here!!!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Mr. Silly"

Prayers Please: I was able to see Mrs. Hessler yesterday at the hospital here in Austin. We joked and laughed and she was in good spirits. She has begun to have trouble with her right eye and was waiting for an eye specialist when I left. Since then, the eye specialist has said that the blindness she is experiencing in that eye is probably permanent. Please pray sight in her right eye. She is in pain from her right knee which has many torn ligaments in it. Her right foot is giving her lots of pain also. Please pray for her healing and for the pain to lessen.

All our athletes competing in the State Track Meet did AWESOME!!! Kirsten won the 100 m. hurdles, Brian won the 300 m. hurdles, Brett was 2nd int he discus, and Blaine was 3rd in the 3200 m.

Caden has been a sleepy-head today! After he woke up this morning, Jeremy gave him his bottle and he went back to sleep for another hour. Then we went to have lunch and came back and he (we) went to sleep about 2:30 and he's been sleeping ever since!!! He's been a good boy while we have been here and I think he enjoyed the track meet last night!

We are staying in Austin tonight at Jeremy's brother's house. My mom and dad and sister and brother-in-law are in Austin also. We will meet them for lunch tomorrow, then head home.

To all you mothers out there.........You are all so very special to your children. I hope you have a very Happy Mother's Day!!!

A Mother's Love

There is no love, like a mother's love,
no stronger bond on earth...
like the precious bond that comes from God,
to a mother, when she gives birth.

A mother's love is forever strong,
never changing for all time...
and when her children need her most,
a mother's love will shine.

God bless these special mothers,
God bless them every one...
for all the tears and heartache,
and for the special work they've done.

When her days on earth are over,
a mother's love lives on...
through many generations,
with God's blessings on each one.

Be thankful for our mothers,
for they love with a higher love...
from the power God has given,
and the strength from up above.

by Jill Lemming

Have a wonderful day!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Sleepy-head

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST: Mrs. Hessler was doing well after her 4th (I believe) surgery on her right foot Tuesday. Then yesterday afternoon, she had a stroke. Apparently her carotid artery (in her neck)was damaged when she got pinned against the steering wheel in the accident and it has been bleeding since then. This is what caused her to have the stroke. She had surgery yesterday afternoon to fix the artery. The surgery went well. She still has slurred speech and her right side is affected at this time. She can move her right hand, and she was talking to her family last night. Please keep Sarah, her husband and son, and her mom and dad in your prayers!!!!

Kate is doing well. She has 2 broken ribs, and is still sore, but should be coming back to school today. Please continue to pray for her healing!

Besides that terrible news yesterday, we are doing well around here! Caden is great! He is so funny and happy lately. I guess he is more aware of his surroundings and what all is going on, but he's really a lot of fun. He laughs and smiles at everything lately, which is such a wonderful change from there having to be an act of congress just to make him smile.

His eye appointment Tuesday went really well. His eyes look good and all the nerves inside his eyes look good. He still has a slight strabismus in his right eye. It used to go out pretty bad when he was tired, but we haven't noticed it doing that much at all anymore. The eye doctor still saw it a little, but it's nothing we have to worry about right now.

This weekend is the State Track Meet in Austin. Jeremy and I are going to Austin this afternoon. Caden is going to stay with my mom and dad. They may come down tomorrow afternoon or Sat. morning, so we will get him back then. It's really hard for him to be out when it's really hot, so thank goodness 2A runs tomorrow evening.

~*~Good Luck Kirsten, Brian, Brett, & Blaine!!~*~

Our softball girls are doing really well and have a play-off game here in town Saturday, so we will probably try to make it back for that.

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawk Softball!! Beat Hawley!!~*~

Wow, can you all believe we only have 10 school days left??? By the way the kids are acting, you'd think we were already out of school!

I guess that is all for this morning. Everyone have a great Thursday & Friday and a great weekend!! Thanks for checking in on Caden and the rest of us. We really appreciate you all!!

Here is a cute picture of Caden from last night. We went to our high school Honors Banquet and had to dress up. This was Caden's Easter outfit!

Saturday~~

ANOTHER PRAYER REQUEST: A sophomore girl from Wall HS, Kate, and her journalism coach and our yearbook/journalism teacher, Mrs. Hessler, were on their way back from Austin yesterday where Kate was competing in State Academic UIL Newswriting when an oncoming car came into their lane and hit them head on just outside of Llano. Mrs. Hessler was flown to Austin to the hospital with both her legs broken and was in surgery for awhile last night. She will have to have extensive therapy for her feet and legs. We thought Kate had a broken hip, but only had a broken rib. She has been released from the same hospital and is back home tonight. Mrs. Hessler has a young husband and little boy. I have heard the driver of the other car was a professor from ASU. He did not survive the crash. Prayers for his family and friends. Prayers for complete healing for Mrs. Hessler and Kate. Prayers for Mrs. Hessler's family while she is "out of commission." The Llano sheriff told Kate's mom and dad that if they had not been in a suburban, that the outcome could have been much worse. Praise that they weren't hurt any worse.

Jeremy is on his way back from San Antonio where he was at TABC coaching clinic. He's been gone since Wednesday night. We will be glad to get him back home!

My mom kept Caden today here at my house while I went to a meeting about a graduate class Jeremy and I are taking this summer. It is a Writing Institute, and it seems like it will be really great.

~*~Thanks Mom!!~*~

Caden is as handsome as ever!!! He's rolling around hitting his toys right now! We have had some quality time together the last few evenings! I guess Jeremy will hog him when he gets home!

Have a great Sunday!!

Thursday~~

PRAYER REQUEST: Please pray for Alexa. She has had numerous small seizures and 2 big ones since Tuesday. An EEG showed damage to her temporal lobe in her brain. She is now on anti-seizure meds to get rid of them. She is sedated now. She is still on the respirator and feeding tube. Please pray for her and her family!

On a more positive note.....the nutritionist saw Caden today and he gained 10 oz. and grew another 1/4 an inch!! He is now up to 23 lb. 10 oz. and 33 in.

Have a great Friday!!!
Vicki

Wednesday~~

I know I have got to get rid of these Easter decorations, and I know you have all been patiently waiting for these Easter pictures, and I am finally getting them on here. I downloaded them to my computer here at school, but then it said the folder was empty! Then the camera was at home again, so I had to do it all over again, then it wouldn't work until I cleared some of the pictures off my computer!! So, I burned the old pictures to a CD, deleted them off my computer, and it FINALLY worked! Thank Goodness I hadn't deleted them off the camera yet!!!

We had progress reports due on Wednesday here at school, so I have been trying to get caught up on my grading. Can you believe we only have 14 actual school days left!!! It's so exciting!

Caden is doing great. He was pretty snotty and had red watery eyes at the beginning of this week and last week, but I think he (very unfortunately) inherited my terrible allergies! He has been taking Dimetapp and seems WAY better.

The Regional Track meet was this last weekend in Abilene, and OF COURSE, it rained and stormed the whole time! That made for a yucky meet!! Caden stayed with my mom and dad because of the rain and storms. We had a lot of girls and boys competing in lots of events, and we have 1 girl and 3 boys going to state!!! Kirsten won the 100 m. hurdles, Blaine won the mile and 2 mile, Brian won the 300 m. hurdles, and Brett won the discus! Our boy's and girl's sprint relays were 3rd place, our boy's mile relay was 3rd, and Sarah was 3rd in the 400 m. dash. All in all, it was a yucky weekend, but the kids did well!

Our girl's golf team won Regionals Monday. The team has a set of sisters on it who are tremendous golfers, and add to them the other 2 girls that are awesome too! They will be going to State May 8-9. I have 3 of the girls in my classes because they are FRESHMEN!!!

Alexa is doing better. She had a really good day last Tuesday. They did end up having to perform a tracheotomy 2 weeks ago because her lung collapsed again, but since then, she's been doing better. A scope showed her lungs are doing much better now. They believe the left side of her diaphram is paralyzed because she can't seem to get rid of the infection completely. Her fever is down and she is being slowly weaned off the respirator and the feeding tube. In all probability, and being cautiously optimistic, she will be moved in about two weeks or so to The Institute for Rehab and Rehabilitation in Houston where she will remain for an indefinite time IF the infection in her lung is gone. I hear that they got to take her outside for the first time yesterday. I sure hope that is true, because it's been beautiful weather here. Keep praying for her!!!

We had the Shattered Dreams program here at school for the last 2 days. It's a sort of shock treatment for the kids about drinking and driving. Every 15 minutes, a person is killed in a drinking and driving accident, so every 15 minutes, they play a heartbeat over the intercom and then they pull a student out of a class. Then they paint their face to look "dead" and go back to class, but can't interact with anyone for the rest of the day. These kids are the "living dead." Then they make a fake crash scene with some of the juniors and seniors as victims. Some of the kids even get care-flighted from the scene. 2 kids pretended to die, and their parents even go to the hospital or fake morgue to identify them. All the other high school students get to go to the crash scene while the police and ambulances work on the "victims" then they film the whole thing, then put together a slide show for the next day. The kids involved and their parents go on an overnight retreat with the Right Choices for Youth leaders. Yesterday was the crash, and today was the assembly when they show the video. It didn't hit me so hard yesterday, but when they put it together with music, it was really hard to watch. It's so real, and you just love these kids so much that it's hard to imagine that happening to any of them. Then they got a mother who really lost her son in a drinking and driving accident only 9 months ago to talk to the kids. That part was really sad. Then the kids that were involved in the crash or the "living dead" wrote letters to their parents and read them out loud, then their parents wrote letters to them and read them. Phew.....that was the really hard part! It is a good program for any kids to see. If it reaches 1 kid and makes them not drink and drive, then it is working!

These are our beautiful lilies and petunias in our back yard. The lilies were here when we moved in, so we were blessed!!

Don't forget about the.....

SPRING CHICKEN AFFAIR

BEHIND SAN ANGELO NATIONAL BANK
$7 A PLATE

Well, I know you are all waiting for an Easter update, and I have lots to tell, AND I have pictures, but you will have to wait for them because I left our camera at my mom & dad's house!

Sunday, we all got up and went to church. Afterwards, we ran home, changed clothes, loaded back up, and headed for Lake Coleman to my mom & dad's house. All the family AND lunch was waiting for us when we got there. We had a delicious lunch while Caden had a nice nap, then Caden and I colored some Easter eggs! It was quite messy.......but lots of fun! Then Jeremy hid them outside and we went on the hunt! I ran around the yard with Caden and when we found an egg, I would sit him down on the ground by it and we would pick it up and put it in his Easter basket. He even picked 1 egg up ALL BY HIMSELF and DROPPED IT IN HIS BASKET!!! It was so cool!

He had the cutest Easter outfit that my mom bought him, but he spit up all over the Argyle sweater vest in the middle of church! Figures! So, we don't have any pictures of him in it, but we will get the stain out and put it back on him and take some pictures! I will get my camera back this weekend and post the Easter pictures ASAP!!

I have some other pictures from Friday and Saturday of Caden in his COOL NEMO sunglasses outside swinging. They are on the computer at home, so I will get them on here tonight or tomorrow. He is so funny about those shades! Last summer, he HATED shades when we put them on him. Now this year, he gets mad when you take his Nemo shades off of him! We have a pair of those shades in every bag!!!

I also have some pictures of all the pretty flowers in our back yard right now. It looks so great right now, especially compared to last year. This time last year, we still had Lady, Jeremy's bird dog. Man, did she do a number on the back yard! But since she has a better home this summer, we have been able to plant some new plants to go with our old ones (that survived!!) and the backyard looks GREAT!! I will put those pictures on here too!

As for ALEXA, she had a scary night over the weekend. She had some scary breathing difficulties that they thought were caused by a blood clot, but now they said the difficulties were from pneumonia behind her heart. After that scary night, things have been pretty uneventful....which is GOOD! Contrary to what the story on the news said, Alexa DOES have feeling in her arms, she can move her thumbs, and she can shake or nod her head. Since she is more awake lately, she is becoming more aware of her injuries. She is receiving nutrition through a feeding tube. Please continue to keep Alexa in your prayers! For a fund raiser, they have printed some yard signs that say "Please Pray for Alexa" that you can purchase for a minimum donation of $50. The signs will be available on Wednesday at WCS (Western Communications) in Southwest Plaza or Mollie and Friends, located at the 5 way stop near HEB. As you can imagine the medical bills are really piling up for this family. Please show your support for them and Alexa by purchasing a sign!!! Thanks!

Here's a nice update on Brandon Clark from his wife. Brandon had surgery Friday to remove one of his kidneys that had cancer on it. Quoting Jenny: "Everything went really smooth. They took the right kidney out and the dr. felt like he got all the cancer. He took lymphnodes and felt very confident that they will come back negative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brandon is very very sore right now. He said that this hurts a lot worse than the first 2 surgeries. He has really been an trooper and I am so proud of him. He will probably get out Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning and it looks like we will be back late Thursday or Friday sometime. I can't wait. This surgery has been such a success and full of positive news." Great news!! Prayers are working right before our eyes! Keep them coming!!

As for all of us here at school....we only have 25 more school days left!!! This week is the dreaded TAKS test. We have tests today through Friday. YUCK!! This weekend my UIL spelling team goes with all the other qualifiers to the UIL Regional meet in Abilene. So, Caden will be staying with my mom & dad while all the kids and other team coaches are in Abilene until Saturday.

Oh yes!! Thursday was the District track meet. See, in TX, you have to place in the top 3 in an event at district, then you get to go to Regionals. There you compete against all the other top 3 finishers from all the districts in your Region. We have 8 districts in our Region. So that's 24 competitors in each event. IF you place in the top 2 at the Regional meet, then you get to go to the STATE TRACK MEET in Austin!!! Last year, the Lady Hawks had their mile relay, 1 hurdler, 1 girl in the 400 m. dash and the 100 m. dash. Awesome, huh?? Well, this year we have girls going to Regionals in 13 out of 17 events, and 2 girls in some of those events!!!! WE have boys going to Regionals in 12 out of 17 events, and 2 boys in some of those events!!! Just AWESOME!!! The Regional Track meet is April 28-29 in Abilene. Then we will see if we have some girls and guys going to the State Meet!!!

I guess that is about all for today. I will get some pictures on here as soon as I can! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! It is supposed to be 101 here today!! I am sure glad we are all inside and not out in that heat!!! Have a great week!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Cool in my Nemo Shades!

Happy Thursday!! Well, this is actually our Friday because we don't have school tomorrow for Good Friday.

Alexa still needs lots of prayers! She is about the same as the last few days. She can move her arms and thumbs. They have brought her out of the sleep-mode and she can answer questions by nodding or shaking her head. They are mainly concentrating on her respiratory troubles. They are trying to wean her off the respirator. They are also trying to eliminate all the fluids in her body that are causing her to be swollen, so they are only allowing her ice chips every hour....nothing else. Please pray for her thirst to be quenched because she is VERY thirsty! She is still in ICU. There are several fund-raisers going on here at school for her family. Please continue to lift her and her family up in prayer. I know they all appreciate it!

We are all doing well. Caden has had to have his AFOs adjusted 3 times now because we can not keep them on his feet. Being that he has almost no tone, he's VERY flexible, so unless they were on SUPER tight, to the point they turned his feet red, he could find a way out of them. Actually, you could just tug on them and they would come off, AFO, sock, shoe, and all!!! So, now it looks like they may be fixed! We will see!

We overslept this morning by an hour!!! I guess I was starting my weekend early! I guess I turned the alarm off and just happened to wake up at 6 am. On top of that, today is the district track meet in Sonora, so Jeremy had to leave with the bus at 6:40 am. He was in quite the hurry! I made it by by first class......THANK GOODNESS I don't have a class first period!

Caden and I will be going to the track meet after lunch. It should be a beautiful day. It's supposed to be 90 today. Yep it's warming up FAST in Texas!

I guess that is about it for today! I hope you all have a wonderful Happy Easter and weekend! I hope all they little ones out there get to hunt LOTS of Easter eggs!!! We are going to run Caden around the yard at my mom and dad's house Sunday and grab up eggs!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & The Houdini

Monday~~
Update on Alexa: Her surgery took 10 hours, and they did find that her spine was intact!!! Thank God!! She is able to move her hands and arms and is getting some feeling in her abdomen area. She did have a lung collapse, but supposedly this was a good thing because they were able to clean all the water out of the lung. She has developed pneumonia from the water in her lungs. She is in a drug-induced coma for 3 days to keep her still and let her rest. One person has told me there was no break, only a bruise of her spine and with lots of therapy, she should be able to walk again!!! PRAISE!! PRAISE!!! Keep praying!!!

We are all doing well. Jeremy is sick. He has had terrible allergies and sinus since the horrible day last week they had to be in Big Lake for the JH district track meet. So, he stayed home from school today to get better!

Caden and I went to my aunt's 60th birthday surprise party Saturday. We got to see a lot of our family. It was very nice!!

Caden is doing great! I cut his hair Saturday before the party. He's just so handsome with a new haircut! He's being as silly as ever!

Last night's Extreme Homemakeover was so awesome! They rebuilt the family's house and built a therapy room for the little girl. It was EXACTLY what I'd love for Caden to have! When they were showing it, there was a "Creepster Crawler" in the corner. Caden has one of these and he has began to scoot all over the place in it! They had a bubble tube, a ball pit with lights under the balls, there were fiber optics, and all kinds of things with different textures. There was even a big swing in the middle of the room!!! It was SO AWESOME!!! One day we hope to built Caden a room just like that one!

I hope you all had a great Monday! Only 30 school days left!!! YIPEEE!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Handsome

Saturday~~
From what I have heard today, the doctors got in for Alexa's surgery and it was not as bad as what they expected! Her spine was not severed, but there was a break in her C4 or C5 (I believe). As of today, PRAISE.......she could move her arms and was pulling against the doctors! Keep praying!!!

Vicki

Friday~~URGENT PRAYER REQUEST:
Please pray for Alexa Nichols and her family. Alexa is a 17 yr. old Junior here at the high school and was our mascot for football season. She hit her head diving into a swimming pool yesterday evening. At this time she is paralyzed from the neck down, but the doctors don't know what feeling may come back. Alexa will undergo surgery at
1:30 pm today
to help stabilize her spine. The surgery will take 9 hours. There are concerns that there could be permanent paralysis from the accident. Please pray for God to do a miracle at 1:30 PM TODAY, FRIDAY. Pray that God will work everything together for good. Please set an alarm, cell phone, or beeper to remind you to lift up Alexa, her family, and the doctors as they begin the surgery at 1:30 pm today.

Thanks everyone!
Hugs & Love,
Vicki

The week is almost over!!! I had a workshop to go to yesterday, and it didn't start until 9 am, so I got to sleep an hour later than usual, and it was SOOO nice! I finally got my hour back that we lost last weekend!

Caden's nutritionist came to see him at the house Monday afternoon. Remember she (we) was VERY worried because he hadn't grown in height in the last 6 months. She was even talking about us seeing an endocrinologist about it. Well, she measured him and........drum roll......HE GREW AN INCH!!!! Yep, 1 whole inch in the last month!! Now he's 32 3/4 inches! His weight was the same, 23 lbs., but he used his calories to grow in height this time!!! We were all VERY relieved and excited!! It was a good visit!

We get out early today for the junior high district track meet. Poor kids and workers!! The winds here are supposed to be 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph!! NOT a good day for a track meet, and in Big Lake of all places! It will be terrible there! Jeremy has to go work since he's a coach. Caden and I are not going to make it to this one!

My mom is coming to see us today and she's going to help me get laundry done!! Thank goodness! Our extra bedroom looks like a tornado hit it with all the clean clothes that haven't been folded or hung up, and the dirty ones that need to be washed!

Jeremy has a track meet in Ozona on Saturday, so Caden and I are going with my mom & dad to a surprise birthday party. It should be fun!

Please keep Brandon Clark, his wife Jenny, and their kids in your prayers. He finally got healthy enough to make it to MD Anderson after his stomach surgery to remove cancer, then while at MD Anderson they found a new spot on his kidney and another one on his esophagus. He is having surgery next Friday to remove his whole kidney. Please pray for success for the surgery, speedy recovery, wisdom for the doctors, and strength for everyone.

I hope you all have a great Friday and weekend!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and Mr. Long Tall Texan

Monday, April 3, 2006 1:05 PM CDT

Yep, some of you may have guessed by my absence that it was the end of the 5th six-weeks here at school. So, I was wrapped up in grading papers and getting make-up work from kids who have missed school. I don't know if this is the longest I have ever gone without updating, but it feels like it!!!

Can you all believe we only have 6 more weeks of school??? I can't!! It has flown by so quickly. We actually have..........35 more school days until summer!!! I am as excited as the students!

Caden has been doing really well. He is wearing his AFOs almost all day now, and is used to them enough that they don't seem to affect him anymore. He is moving his legs and kicking them like he used to. He will stand now with us holding him up, and he's doing well with them on in PT. Jeremy and I will be visiting some of the PPCD class rooms in San Angelo soon to see where would be the best place for the Little Man. He is STILL playing peek-a-boo every chance he can! I am anxious for the nutritionist to see him this week. I think he's gained even more weight and I would like to know if he's grown any taller.

Jeremy is helping with track now. My mom kept Caden Saturday so I could go to the track meet in Early because it was a little damp outside for Caden to go too. Jeremy and I went back to Mom & Dad's house after the meet and watched the basketball games Sat. night. I was sad for George Mason. I guess we will have to watch the BIG game tonight! Jeremy and I planted a new Red Bud tree and a new rose bush yesterday. The yard is starting to look more and more green!

~*~Thanks Mom for keeping Caden!!~*~

I can't believe I don't have more to update than that since it's been 2 weeks. I guess it's been pretty slow around here. If I think of more, I'll be sure to let you all know!

Please continue to keep Corey & his baby sister Emma in your prayers. Corey has not been back to himself since his ER trip, and Emma has a new infection.

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Peek-A-Boo

It is with a saddened heart that I ask for prayers for another mito family. Skye Nicole Anastasia Bove passed away peacefully in her mother's arms Saturday morning. Skye had a really bad month in January, but seemed to be doing a little better last month. She was just over 2 years old. Please say a prayer for her mother and sisters in this time of need.

Corey's sister, EMMA , needs more prayers. Corey has mito, and they think his new baby sister has it also. She was throwing up all night, hasn't been gaining any weight, and is being put in the hospital for lots of tests. Man, we know about those days! Please pray for Emma and the rest of the family as they are separated and search for help and answers.

On a lighter note......Our first day back at school has seemed to drag on forever!!! That getting up at 5:15 am was NOT missed all last week! But, we only have 45 more school days left! I may be worse than the kiddos! We are just getting into Romeo & Juliet in class, and the kids are having a good time with it.

Caden has been doing really well. He still has the persistant congestion, but I have resided to the fact that it's just part of our lives! His last 2 top teeth are coming in, and I suspect his last 2 bottom teeth will soon follow. They don't seem to have bothered him yet, KNOCK ON WOOD! He continues to play peek-a-boo anywhere he can, and whenever he can!! He even starts playing it before we know what he's doing! We did get his AFOs fixed on Friday. They cut a little off the top of the back of them and put some foam stuff along the edge to cushion them. They are WAY better now. He used to cry as soon as we put them on him, and since they were fixed, he hasn't even made a face. He is up to wearing them 3 hours a day. He still doesn't want to straighten out his legs and bear weight on them with the AFOs on, but I suppose that will take some getting used to for him. They are even pretty cute......blue background with truck, race cars, and airplanes on them! We just happened to have some tennis shoes stowed away in the closet for the future that were a size 6, and they seem to fit just right with the AFOs on.

I guess that is about it for today. I hope you all had a great weekend, and had a good (Monday's can't be great, can they?) Monday! Thanks for visiting to check on Caden, and for signing the guestbook. We love to hear from everyone who visits, plus the supportive messages are priceless to all of us.

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Peek-A-Boo

Thursday, March 16, 2006 3:43 PM CST

Well, Spring Break is almost over! We haven't done anything special this week. Jeremy and I got some yard work and house work done when Caden was napping yesterday. Tuesday we went to Abilene to meet my family for "March Birthday Lunch." Monday, the sports caster from KLST came to the hosue to do a story on the famous Lady Hawk basketball coach and his son Caden. I totally forgot to get on here and post it so you could all know it was going to be on the news last night. It was really tastefully done and turned out to be a great story. They included some footage of Jeremy coaching the girls, then some footage of each of us talking about Caden, and then some footage they took of us with Caden on Monday. We recorded it, so if I had a brainiac to tell me how to get the footage on this site, I'd put it on here!

Caden got his AFOs yesterday, and he HATES them! He kept wanting to bend his legs with them on, but when he did, he'd cry, so we knew it was hurting him. Well, we didn't know how much it was hurting him! He had to keep them on for an hour last night, so when he tried to bend his legs, we wouldn't let him, but the few times he did get them bent made bruises on the back of his thighs. I don't know what they are going to do to fix the AFOs, because obviously his little brain isn't telling him that it hurts him when he bends his legs with them on, so they will have to do something to stop the AFOs from pinching his legs. We will see this afternoon.

Besides that, we are just watching MORE basketball! It's March Madness, BABY!!! I hope you all had a great week!

Continued prayers are needed for Brandon Clark and his family.

Thanks for everything! We love you all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMAW!!!!

Today is my mother's birthday!!! That makes her.......well......OLD!!! Ha, Ha, Mom!!!

SPRING BREAK officially begins at 3:35 this afternoon!!! No school for a whole week! I don't know who is more excited, the teachers or the kids!!! We don't have any big plans for the week except cleaning house. Sounds fun, huh?? We will go to Abilene one day to meet the rest of my family to celebrate all the March birthdays. Besides mom's birthday, my birthday is March 24, and Jeremy's is March 26. We usually get together one day in the month to celebrate all three birthdays.

The nutritionist saw Caden yesterday and he weighed 23 lb. 1 oz. Not as much weight gain as in January, but February wasn't a very healthy month for us, so we'll take what we can get! She is pretty concerned with his height though. He's 31 3/4 in tall, but he hasn't grown any taller in the past 6 months since she's been seeing him. We have to find out if this is a result of the mito. Anyone who knows, email me or leave it in the guestbook! I figure it is......everything else is! Also, our PT says that him not using his legs much and not being upright a lot makes him not grow as fast. Who knows! We'll find out!

Besides that, Caden is doing very well. He was really cranky this morning during his meds, but he got over it! I would be too if someone was poking all that junk down me!!! We are hearing the occasional "Ma" and "Da" from him. I hope he is using those words on purpose to call us by our names!

Please say a prayer for Corey and his family. Corey has mito, and his mom and dad just found out their new baby, Emma (Corey's little sister), has Complex I (mito) also. Very sad news!

Also say a prayer for Brandon Clark, he is a 32 year old father of 3 and a coach in San Angelo who I coached with in the past and went to college with. He had surgery last month to remove most of his stomach because of stomach cancer, and is now fighting infections that are keepinghim from making the trip to MD Anderson for further treatments. Their daughter was really sick earlier this year, so he and his wife (also a teacher) are not being paid for the days they are missing from school right now. Their whole family needs lots of prayers right now! Many people are having benefits for his family, so try to make it to one if you live in San Angelo. I will post them when I find out the dates.

You see, in TX, we teachers have a certain amout of days we can miss each school year and still be paid for them. When you run out of days, you don't get paid if you have to miss. I can't believe SAISD isn't being more understanding of their situation and aren't doing something to help them out!

I hope you all have a great weekend and week!!! Thanks to everyone for their support and love! We wouldn't make it without you all!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and "Shorty"

THE LADY HAWKS ARE #2 IN THE STATE OF TEXAS!!!

Thank you Lady Hawks for a most memorable season! You are all awesome!

We are all sooooo VERY proud of the Lady Hawk basketball team and coaches! Saturday's loss was not an easy thing to take, but Argyle was better than us. Our girls never quit playing or fighting though! They left everything out on that court! I know people around here have heard about how AWESOME our crowd was, but the rest of you can not imagine how many people we had there supporting the team! It has been called a "sea of green" that was in those bleachers! Argyle even commented on it being "intimidating"!! It was amazing! We took up more of the seats than any other crowd from 1A to 5A! AND the student section was so COOL!!! They stood and cheered the entire game, no matter what! This past weekend was so much fun to be a part of. It is something some coaches (& coaches wives) never get to experience in their career. It was awesome! There isn't any other word for it!

Thanks so much to everyone who came to Austin for the game or games, listened to them onthe radio, or just followed the team in the paper. Thanks for all the guestbook entries during the weekend!

If you'd like to see pictures of the team while they were in Austin, the Standard Times followed the team the whole time and put stories online. Go to: San Angelo Standard Times Then click on Jacgue's (one of our players) picture in the top left corner of the homepage. From there you can look through all the pictures and even change the date to see other pictures from other days.

I have lots of pictures too, but none as good as those on the website! I'll get some on here soon.

Now it's time for track season!

Of course Caden's rash showed up while we were in Austin, but he was such a good boy while we were there! Most of the spots are gone now. Jeremy stayed home with him (he can do that now that basketball is over) yesterday, just in case! Caden never seemed like any of the spots bothered him. He didn't eat very well one day, so I thought the ones in his mouth might have been bothering him, but he was back to normal the next day.

You all know we went in last week to be fitted for SMOs. Well, the orthodic lady thinks he needs AFOs instead, so that is what we are getting. They should be ready next week.

ONLY 3 more days until our Spring Break!! No school for a WHOLE WEEK!!! I can't wait! I need to clean house and have a little break, especially after last weekend! Then I believe we only have about 49 days of school left until summer!!! It is so beautiful here these days. It's been in the high 70's to low 80's ALREADY!!! We all went on a nice walk yesterday afternoon and it was really nice outside! Caden loves to go outside!

I am a little sickly today. My head is stuffed up and I would really like to just lay down and go to sleep! I will take some medicine when I get home and hopefully feel better tomorrow!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Have a great week!!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Spotty

THE LADY HAWKS ARE PLAYING FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

WALL 46 - KOUNTZE 39

We are soooo proud of the Lady Hawks!!! There have been other teams make it to the State Tournament, but no other team has won a game once they got here!!! These girls made HISTORY Thursday!

We are headed for the gym now for the State Championship game vs. Argyle at 10:00 am. If you would like to here the game via the internet, it will be webcast on www.kdkr.org

Caden just may have hand, foot, & mouth disease! He was exposed last Friday or Monday at daycare, and nothing has shown up on his hands or feet, but there are some red spots on his tongue and in his mouth. Not good, but he's been a real trooper the whole time. He had a little fever Thursday, but none since. PLUS, he's cutting 2 two year molars! Poor baby, but he's still in great spirits and is SUPER excited for Daddy!

If you'd like to read more about the Lady Hawks team, the Standard Times have been following them around everywhere while they were in Austin. You can look up the website for the San Angelo Standard Times and see some great pictures!

Have a great weekend! Thank you for all your support and love!!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, #1 Coach - Jeremy, and #1 Lady Hawk fan - Caden

THE LADY HAWKS ARE GOING TO STATE!!!!

Way to go Lady Hawks!! We are SOOOOOOO proud of you all!!

Friday night's game was so intense!! Panhandle was definitely the 2nd best team at the Regional tournament, and we had the luck of drawing them first! They played the best pressure defense I have ever seen. Yes, I think it was even better than ours, but ours is still VERY good! The Lady Hawks won 29-27!

Saturday's game was a little easier to watch because after Tahoka scored the first 2 points, they never lead again! We had at elast a 10 point lead most of the game, and sometimes it was as much as 15-16 points! It was such a fun weekend......but just wait until next weekend!!! AUSTIN, here we come!!!

We drew Kountze for our first game. They are from East TX, and have a girl that has signed to play college basketball at the University of Texas! Yep, she's good! BUT, our girls can certainly beat this team! These Lady Hawks are playing such GREAT basketball right now, and I don't think those East TX teams have seen defense like we play. The other 2 teams are Argyle vs. Poth. If we win Thursday, then we will catch the winner of that game on Saturday. (probably Argyle) Their game is at 9:00 am Thursday morning, and our game is at 10:30 am Thursday morning. I think we will use one of our snow days and get out of school Thursday, because EVERYONE will want to go to the game!

So, that is what we did all weekend! Caden is great and healthy finally! He enjoyed all the games, and gets really excited when Jeremy and I are so excited!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and you all have a great week!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, and the Lady Hawk's #1 fan.....Caden

Wow you guys! What a weekend we had! It all started Friday night when Caden was NOT himself at the basketball game. He just sat there and didn't move a muscle, which is UNHEARD OF for him with his choreoathetosis. He didn't babble or make any sounds either. We were all pretty worried, but he livened up a little on the way home and I was able to get him to laugh a little. When we got home and I was getting him ready for bed, he played with me some on his changing table, so I felt a lot better. Well, right after his bedtime bottle, he threw up everywhere...and that's the story of our whole weekend! He obviously caught the stomach bug somewhere and was sick all day Sat. and could only keep down Pedialyte. By Sunday, he could keep down Pedialyte and bland, starchy foods, but still no formula, so my mom came back to our house to keep him for Monday. THANK GOD my mom came! Remember the TAKS test that we had Tuesday, well, I woke up about 3 am Monday morning throwing up and that is the story for the rest of my Monday! There was NO way I could go to school, so I had to get a sub.......YES, the day before the TAKS test! Monday afternoon, when I was finally feeling a little bit human, I went to the clinic and told them they had to give me something because I had to go to school the next day. Thank goodness I didn't throw up again after about noon Monday, and I was feeling A LOT better by that afternoon. I was still tired, but goo for school by yesterday. (TAKS day!) Then we got to school yesterday morning and JEREMY threw up!!! I think his was something else, like maybe nerves for the basketball game though because he didn't throw up again after that. CRAZY, huh???

TAKS is DONE!!!!!! At least it is for me and the other English teachers. The kids still have mathmatics, science, and history to take in April; but WE ARE DONE!!!

Were you all wondering about the basketball game Friday??? YES, the Lady Hawks WON again!!! They had a nail bitter for 3.5 quarters, but ended up beating a good Ballinger team by 7 points! So, that meant we would play the winner of the Big Lake (3rd place in our district) vs. Stamford game that was also Tuesday night. Stamford beat Big Lake by 2 points, so that set up last night's game in Sweetwater between the Lady Hawks and Stamford. YES, the Lady Hawks WON again, this time by 25 POINTS!!! They played so well!! Now they are off to Midland this Friday & Saturday for the REGIONAL tournament!!! They will play Panhandle at 6:00 pm Friday night at the Chaps Center in Midland. IF they win, then they will play the winner of Jim Ned vs. Tahoka (8:00 pm Friday night @ Chaps Center) on Saturday afternoon! What a great weekend that would be!!! It will be great no matter what!

We are all soooooo proud of the Lady Hawks! They got the season off to a rocky start with some tough games, but they have brought everything together and are competing at a super level right now. No matter what happens in the next game(s), they have surpassed anyone's expectations and have had an AWESOME season!

~*~We love you Lady Hawks! You are AWESOME!! Keep on 'rollin!!!~*~

The Hawks play their first play-off game against Jim Ned in Stanton at 4:00 pm Friday afternoon. The boy's coach did a good job of getting this game set at that time and place so all our fans can make it to the boy's game, then still make it to the girl's game in Midland at 6:00. It works well for Jim Ned's fans too since their girls are playing at 8:00.

~*~GOOD LUCK HAWKS!! Play Hard & Beat Jim Ned!!~*~

SINCE we have basketball games so far away at 4:00 & 6:00 on Friday, WE GET OUT OF SCHOOL AT 12:45 ON FRIDAY!!!! That may be the best part of it all!!! Just joking! It is a nice surprise though!

Jeremy is SUPER busy getting ready for the games this weekend. I can relax a little at school since the TAKS test is behind my classes.

Here are some of the pictures from last nights game and some of Caden in his Eli's Angels t-shirt. If you notice in some of the pics of Caden he has a huge scratch across his face. Well, it's gone now, (the scratch & the hang-nail)but he had a MONSTER of a hang-nail at daycare one day and he mangled his cheek! It looked pretty bad for about a day & a half!

Caden wasn't able to get fitted for his SMOs last week because of the eye infections, so we will set that up for next week hopefully!

I guess that is about it for this update. Everyone have a great week!

Wednesday~~
Well, leave it to me! No update in a week and a half, then 2 updates in 2 days. AND leave it to me to speak too soon about being healthy and well......

I went to Caden's Valentine's party at daycare yesterday afternoon and he had a little gunk in his left eye. Well, I just cleaned it out and went about the party......not thinking too much about it again. Then as the afternoon went on, there was more gunk, then more gunk. Finally in the back of my mind was EYE INFECTION. So, by last night, his eye was running and producing gunk every few minutes, so I called my mom to see if she could come keep Caden today because he wouldn't be able to go to daycare, and I REALLY needed to be at school so we could work on TAKS stuff, and Jeremy REALLY needed to be at school to take care of basketball play-off stuff. So, as of now, Caden has eye drops for an eye infection, Augmentin (strong antibiotic) for 2 ear infections, and ear drops for any pain in his ears!!! That kid is AMAZING.......besides a red eye, you would have NEVER known anything was wrong with him! His eye is already better because it hasn't produced any gunk today, although BOTH of them were matted shut this morning. Now, you talk about a rodeo at our house.....
These eye drops could sting, so we have to put them in the fridge to make them cold because the pharmacist said anything cold numbs the eyeball when it hits it, AND he has to lay still for 5 minutes after you oput the ear drops in his ears! Okay, can you imagine how that is all going to play out????? NOT FUN!!!

Ballinger won last night, so we play them Friday night in Bronte at 7:30 pm. Our boys lost, so I don't know if they have to have a play-off game with Big Lake or if they will flip for ceeding. If you are coming to the girl's game Friday, COME EARLY & YELL LOUD!!! That gym is nice, but it's not very big. We have a few players out of school today because they are sick, so pray that they are well and back to themselves by Friday!!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks!!~*~

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Pink Eye

Tuesday~~
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

I know you all probably thought we had all fallen off the face of the earth, but we are still here! If any of you can guess.......last week was the last week of the 4th 6-weeks for us at school. If you are a teacher, or know one, that should be enough explaination as to were I have been!!! Next Tuesday is also the day my 9th graders take the reading TAKS test, so we have been hitting the TAKS preparation pretty hard the last 2 weeks. It has been crazy! Between all this, and basketball play-offs starting.........it seems like every minute is taken up with something to do or somewhere to go!

The LADY HAWKS won district and will have their Area play-off game this Friday. No time has been set yet. We will play the winner of the Ballinger and Stanton game, which is tonight at the Junell Center at ASU. IF we play Ballinger, we will play in Bronte. IF we play Stanton, we will play here at the Junell Center. Guess where we get to spend Valentine's Day??? Yep, scouting the game tonight! That's okay, there really is no place I would rather be! I was so mad because we didn't have a game to go watch last night!

~*~Go Lady Hawks!! Play with confidence! You are the BEST!! We are so proud of you!!~*~

The HAWKS have their last district game tonight against Mason. If they win, they win district. Mason has to beat us to have a chance at the play-offs, so it should be a good game. If Mason does win, it puts the HAWKS in a tie for 1st with Big Lake.

~*~Good luck HAWKS!! BEAT MASON!!~*~

Wow, a lot has happened since I have updated. Caden is still great! If you read the guestbook where my mom wrote, you read about Caden's game of peek-a-boo. Well, it was so cute!!! We (my mom, dad, & me) were on our way home from a basketball game and Caden kept putting his head down in his lap as far as his carseat would let him, then he would throw it up and just die laughing. Well, my mom started saying, "Wheerrrrre'sss Caden??" when his head was down and he'd throw it up and laugh! We played this game for over an hour, all the way home! It was too cute!

Night before last he decided to play a game with Jeremy and I. He was in his swing and he would lean over the side and we would tell him he had to get up, and he would pick his head and shoulders up and sit back in his swing, then we would cheer and he would laugh! He did this over and over as long as we were yelling and cheering for him! Needless to say, it was a great ab workout for him!

I went to a workshop Friday morning for parents of kids with disabilities and the transitions they have to make from ages 1-21. Most of it dealt with them getting out of high school and maybe going to work somewhere, but I did get to visit with the lady in charge of the PPCD (Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities) classes in San Angelo. It was very good because that is the decision Jermey and I have to make inthe next 8 months as Caden gets closer to age 3. ECI only serves children from birth to 3, so we will have to decide if we take him to a PPCD class or just leave him in daycare all day. He won't be able to get all the therapies at Mosaic that he's getting now through ECI. If he goes to Mosaic all day, we will have to tak ehim to all his therapies after school each day. If he's in a PPCd class, he can continue to get therapies while at school. There are a lot of other things to figure into the decision, but it's one Jeremy and I will make with Caden's best interests at heart. One teacher of a PPCD class has already "claimed" Caden as her own after she saw him on the WTRC telethon!! She must be really serious because she had our old speech therapist call and talk to me about putting him in her class!

We are going out to dinner and then hitting some basketball games tonight. Jeremy sent me flowers here at school, and I got him some new cologne. Caden got some suckers and a balloon from someone here at school, but I don't know who!! It was really sweet! We still have to get Caden something, but it's just hard! I guess a soft teddy bear can never be wrong, huh?? I hope you all get to spend the day with the one(s) you love! Happy Valentine's Day!!

Please keep Ann and Chad, Eli's parents, in your prayers as tomorrow is Eli's birthday. I know this week is even harder than the other weeks have been. Please also keep John Guy, our friend Houston's dad, in your prayers. His cancer showed back up and he's going through treatments. Also keep our friend Brandon "Happy" Clark in your prayers as he has surgery Thursday to remove his newly diagnosed stomach cancer. I know, it's all terrible news, but your prayers are so important to all these people!

I am sure there is more I need to tell you all, but I am drawing a blank mind right now. If I think of it all, I will get back on here! I have some great pictures on the digital camera and I will get them on here ASAP!

Have a great day and week!
Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Mr. Peek-A-Boo

Friday~~

TGIF!!!

The nutritionist saw Caden yesterday and......drum roll................HE GAINED A WHOLE POUND IN THE LAST MONTH!!!!! Yeah, do a happy dance!!! He also grew 1/4 an inch longer too! We were very excited to hear this news! He's getting to be a Toad instead of a frog!

We are having a pot luck lunch here at school today, so I was up until midnight making spaghetti and dessert, so I am REALLY dragging this morning. Yes, even more than usual! Plus, we have to leave at 6 am in the mornign for Abilene, so "no rest for the weary!!"

Caden was really happy this morning before school. It's a lot more fun when he wakes up in a good mood! We have a little game we have played with him every morning before school. When we go wake him up, we let him stretch and get his eyes open, then we start asking him if he's "ready for the light" before we turn it on. We build it up and tell him it's going to be bright and when we turn it on, we make a loud crashing noise. This little game usually makes him laugh, but the last 2 weeks, if he doesn't want the light on, when I ask him if he's ready, he starts crying!!! So, I knew it would be a good morning when he laughed for us this morning! Isn't that exciting that he knows that the light is coming and can voice his opinion when he doesn't want it on!!!

I hope you all have a GREAT weekend!!!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & The Toad

Thursday~~
Okay..........sorry it took me so long to get to this update! It seems like I am swamped lately! I hope everyone considers no news, good news!

Last Thursday, we had Caden's 6 month review with ECI (Early Childhood Intervention). It went pretty well! WE talked about progress and goals for him, but then we had to have the dreaded "what happens when he turns three?" discussion. See, ECI only takes kids from birth to 3 years old. This is a BIG deal because Caden gets his speech therapy, vision therapy, and his nutritionist through ECI. When he turns 3, if we don't put him in the school system in a special class, then all those therapies will have to come from West TX Rehab, in which we will have to find time in the afternoons to take him there. Not that it would be a problem, but I barely have any time to get "other things" done as it is! Monday afternoon is the only day I can leave school and run any errands while Caden is still at daycare. Anyways, so we have 9 months to visit different classes and make the decision what we are going to do. He can stay at Mosaic until he's 5, or he can go to school for 1/2 a day and daycare 1/2 a day, or just school all day. It's a BIG decision, so pray we make the right one!

As most of you know, we thought Miss Magan, Caden's 1-on-1 caregiver at Mosaic, was moving to Midland. Well, her boyfriend got a promotion at his job here, so they are staying, but since she had already resigned at Mosaic, Tuesday was her last day. Magan did a WONDERFUL job caring for Caden, and we will be forever grateful to her for all she did for the Little Man. She loved him as much as she could have loved a child of her own. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, as well as Caden's. We were very sad to see Miss Magan leave, but since she is still going to be in town, maybe she can babysit for us sometime.

~*~Thank you for everything, Magan!! We will miss you very much!! Please come see us sometime!!~*~

Not to take away from Miss Magan, but you all would probably like to know who will have Caden during the day now. Magan's replacement is Miss Veronica. We are very pleased with Mosaic's choice for Caden's new caregiver! Miss Veronica had Caden when he was in the nursery and she has worked with many of this therapists and knows a lot about him. This was such a good choice of ladies because Veronica already "knows" Caden and Caden has always loved her. He lights up when she talks to him! She is very caring and loves Caden already!!! We are very glad she is back at Mosaic and will be taking good care of Caden!

The Wall Lady Hawks earned Jeremy his 100th WIN Friday night when they defeated Sonora!!! This is a big milestone in coaching, and there aren't a lot of coaches out there that have accomplished it in only 3.5 years as a head coach! We were very excited and I took cake to the game and we all celebrated in the locker room after the game!!

The Lady Hawks also defeated Junction Tuesday night, and they play Ozona tomorrow night. After tomorrow, we only have 1 more district game, and it's against Reagan Co.!! That is always a BIG game! After Reagan Co., it's PLAY_OFF time!!! Yeah!

~*~Go Lady Hawks!! Win District, Regionals, & State!!!~*~

The Hawks are also undefeated in district also!! They have a week of district left after the girls finish.

~*~Way to go Hawks!! Keep it up!!~*~

This Saturday I have to spend most of the day in Abilene at a UIL meet. I coach the Spelling and Ready Writing teams. This is just an invitational meet, which is like practice before district. Our district meet is March 27. After my kids compete Saturday, I am meeting Mom, Dad, Kim, Bryan, and Rhonda for lunch to celebrate Kim & Rhonda's birthdays that were a couple of weeks ago. Jeremy will be at home with Caden all day!! They will have a blast, I just know!!

We had district realignment today. The UIL does this every 2 years and they change the districts and regions. Some schools stay 2A, some go up to 3A, 4A, or 5A, and some can go down to 1A; depending on how many kids they have in school. Our district really changed!!! This is the new district:

Wall
Jim Ned
Ballinger
Grape Creek
Coleman
Early
Bangs
San Saba

The only school that is from our old district (this year's) is Grape Creek. All the other schools are from a different district. It will be interesting!!!

I think that is about it! I guess I should go get the Little Man and take him to PT at 4:30. I hope you all have a GREAT FRIDAY!!! and a GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Little Man

Wednesday, February 1, 2006 3:35 PM CST

I have to run take Caden to physical therapy, so I can't type much, but I will update later tonight or tomorrow morning. We are all doing really well!!! I have lots to tell about, so check back!! Sorry I have to run!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Caden

Wednesday~~

Please keep Caden's little friends, Skye & Emily, in your prayers. Skye is fighting to hold on, but isn't expected to make it much longer and Emily has been in the hospital for 3 weeks now. All their families need prayers right now! Thanks!

The Lady Hawks played AWESOME last night!! They won by 16 points! The Hawks also won by 15-16 points also! I only saw half of the boy's game because my mom and dad were here and Mom kept Caden at the house so we didn't have to get him out in the cold, and my dad went with me to the game. Since they had to drive home last night, he and I came home at halftime. Of course they still didn't leave until after 10:00!!!

~*~Thanks Mom and Dad for coming and keeping Caden!!~*~

Mr. Caden did not sleep well at all last night! Okay, that's an understatement......I don't know if he slept at ALL last night, which meant that I didn't sleep either! He woke up coughing, which made him cry, so Jeremy brought him in our room. Well, then Jeremy started coughing so he went to the couch so he wouldn't keep us awake. Well, he should have stayed because Caden was awake anyways! Needless to say, we are all in need of a NAP!! He was VERY happy all night though! He was rolling around, and hitting us in the face, and having the grandest time......from 3 am to 6 am!!! I bet he's fast asleep at daycare by now! Little stinker!

He's sounding much better and his cough is starting to go away, so that is all good!

Have a great HUMP DAY!!
Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Night Owl

Tuesday~~

Well, Caden's TV debut went very well!!! As far as I can tell from some emails, the sound must have been messed up because some people have commented on not being able to hear part of it. Caden was very well-behaved and laughed before and after the camera was on him, but not while we were being interviewed..........figures, huh??!!! It was a BIG night for West TX Rehab. Without the totals from the auction, they raised over $1.2 million dollars!!! AWESOME!!

~*~Thank you to everyone who donated to the WTRC telethon!! Your donations make it possible for so many people and kids to get services, even when they can't afford to pay for them!!!~*~

We stayed at the telethon for a few hours and listened to the other stories and music, and then headed home. It was a successful night for everyone! Plus, none of us tripped in front of the cameras!!!

About 3 am Sunday morning, Caden woke up coughing and had fever, so we took him into see the doctor on-call later Sunday afternoon. Dr. Ryder heard a wheezing in his chest, so she started him on breathing treatments and antibiotics for an ear infection. He doesn't seem to be bothered by his ear, and is doing very well with the breathing treatments. This is new to all of us! We have a loaner nebulizer because the doctor's office has handed out all their new machines! That's how many kiddos are sick with upper respitory illnesses. The oxygen company should be calling us to bring us Caden his new machine soon. The breathing treatments seem to really be helping break up all the congestion in his chest.

So, on the doctor's orders, we (Caden and I) stayed at home yesterday and I took him in for a follow-up visit with our real doctor. Caden has been his normal, silly self the whole time, thank goodness!! He went back to daycare today and they will do his breathing treatment at lunch time.

Jeremy and I watched Lorenzo's Oil Sunday morning. I can't decide if that was a very good movie to watch for parents in our situation, although it was very inspiring!! I cried the whole movie, but it was good, and I am sure that can be expected! I don't know what would be worse.....to have your child not be able to do the things he should be able to do, or for your child to have the ability to do all those things, and lose it.

There have been a few upsets in our district basketball games, so 2nd and 3rd place are still up-for-grabs if some teams get a few more wins!! So, even though we are 3 games ahead of the other teams, EVERY game we play is a BIG game!!! The girls and guys play Grape Creek tonight. Their girl's team has a strong player back from an injury that didn't play last time, and their boys played our boys to 2 points last time, so it should be a fun night of good basketball!!!

~*~Good Luch Lady Hawks & Hawks!!!
Beat Grape Creek!!~*~

If you go to sign the guestbook, Caringbridge has made some changes to it. It should make it easier for some of you readers that have dial-up internet to read and view the guestbook. I believe at the end of each day, the guestbook entries will be archived, so the guestbook will appear empty each day. There are links in the guestbook for you to click on to view the older messages along with the link to click on to leave a guestbook message. Don't panick!!! I promise all your sweet, encouraging words and messages are still there, and we can still go back and read or look at them!!! Like I said, it should make it easier for some of you to view and leave messages!! Thank you to everyone who signs the guestbook. Your supporting words are so comforting and helpful to us!!

I guess that is all for today! I hope you all have a wonderful week!! Stay healthy, and wash your hands a lot!!!

Thanks for finding the list, Sharon!!

KFDA-TV - Amarillo
KZTV-TV - Corpus Christi
KVTV-TV - Laredo
KWES-TV - Odessa/Midland
KLST-TV - San Angelo
KXAN-TV - Austin
KMAC-TV - Lubbock
KXXV-TV - Waco/Temple/Bryan
KSWO-TV – Wichita Falls/Lawton, OK

Today is like our Friday around here because we don't have school tomorrow!! Thank goodness for the stock show!

Caden still has that squeaky, goose-like honk of a cough, but only in the mornings. This morning he did cough up a little junk though, so maybe that helped.

If you've read the guestbook, you read that our Miss Magan will be leaving us in 2 weeks. She's going for a good reason or I'd be mad at her! We will truly miss her and how good she was to Caden. I know Mosaic will do a good job of finding someone new to care for Caden, but it will be hard to get used to someone else again. Everyone loves the Little Man though, so maybe it won't be too hard!

~*~We'll miss you Magan. Please take care and stay in touch!! Thank you for all you have done for us and the Little Man!~*~

I hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Wednesday~~

Happy Hump Day!!! Well, actually it's like Thursday to us because we don't have school on Friday!! Yeahhhh!!! I hope everyone is having a great week!

Caden had a fun weekend with us and his Mimi & Pops. We didn't really do anything special, just hung out at the house and ate at the new Japanese steak house in town called Bonsai. It's really good and gives Ichiban (our other Japenese steak house, a real run for their money. The atmosphere is nicer and the restaurant is WAY nicer and cleaner! Mimi & Pops stayed and kept Caden Monday while we had school. They had a good day! Here are some pictures of Caden and his frog vibrator. Yes, you see it right...........he has it's foot in his mouth!!! He's even holding it, and that little thing is pretty heavy!

Mimi also reported that they let Caden lick a Wheat Thin cracker and he finally closed his mouth on it and bit the corner off of it. Needless to say, he was very surprised!! And in true Caden fashion, he spit every last chunk of it out!!! No texture for our boy.......NO WAY!!!

He was beginning to get a little cranky by the time I got home from school, but I think it was constipation. Don't you all love POOP stories. Anyways, we took care of it with a suppository and he was much happier later in the evening.

He was awakened by a funny little cough last night. It wasn't his normal congested sounding cough, it was a squeaky, high-pitched cough. So, he got to spend the rest of the night peacefully sleeping, snuggled up next to me! That's not such a bad thing, is it???

The Lady Hawks and Hawks came through in TRUE WALL FASHION with 2 big wins last night over Mason. Mason's girls are 2nd in district right now, and their boys are 3rd, so they had to prepare for BIG games last night! The Lady Hawks won by 6 points after a couple of last minute shots that Mason threw up and the guys won by about 12. It was another clean sweep in Wall Basketball, all the way down to the JV girls and boys! (Last Friday was another clean sweep over Big Lake!)

~*~Way to go Lady Hawks & Hawks!! Keep it up!!~*~

We are getting ready for our BIG weekend......the TELETHON!!! Don't forget to tune in Saturday night about 7:45 pm!!

On the horizon, we are looking forward to and starting to save money for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) conference in June. It is in Atlanta, GA this year and we may get to see Dr. Shoffner. He is heading it up this year. We wanted to go last year, but we had just received Caden's diagnosis when it was time for it, and we still had so much to process at that point. So, we definitely want to go this year. I know we will learn lots of new information and get to meet lots of other mito families.

Not much else to look forward to at this point, except a long weekend!!! I hope you al have a great week!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "The Frog Eater"

Saturday~~

The Lady Hawks won by 15 points last night and the Hawks won by 4 points in OVERTIME!!! It was a very stressful and exciting night of basketball!!!

Have a great Saturday & Sunday!!!

Friday~~
TGIF!!!!

I hope everyone has had a good week. We have at our house! Caden has been really happy and he laughs all the time......sometimes for what seems like no reason at all!

I rolled over this morning and the clock said 6:30......I get up at 5:00!!!!! YIKES!!! Thank goodness I don't have a first period, but Jeremy did! Good thing it doesn't take him long to get ready! I finally got Caden to daycare about 8:45 and when I drove up there was a fire truck sitting in the parking lot!!! Not exactly what you want to see when you get to daycare! I kept thinking, "Maybe they are going to show it off to the kids," but then I saw firefighters inside!!! I didn't know what to do.......do you go in, or stay outside? No one looked or sounded frantic, so I took Caden on inside. The cook had left a burner on and didn't know it was on and burned part of breakfast! Thank Goodness!!! You will all be glad to know that all the kids and workers were outside, out of harms way.......if there had been any harm!

Tonight is the BIG game!! Wall vs. Reagan Co. (Big Lake)!! I am sure the Lady Hawks will win, but it doesn't keep me from being a little nervous. Jeremy is A LOT nervous!! The gym will be packed! Our MASH (Movement Against Stupid Habits) organization is having a hamburger supper and silent auction before the game, so that will bring even more people in! They have some REALLY cool things for the silent auction!!

The boys game should be a good one too! Both boys teams are undefeated in district, so this could be for the title!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks!! Beat Reagan Co.!!~*~

Jerry & Sharon decided not to come until tomorrow so they can stay Monday and babysit for us. You see; Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; as most of you know; but we have school because we get out Friday for our stock show. So Jerry & Sharon will be here to keep Caden while we go to school.

My mom and dad are still coming to the game. In fact, they have been at my house part of the day helping me clean up some things. All the Christmas decorations are almost put away........finally!! We will put them all away in the morning. It's taken me so long to get them all down this year!

The nutritionist saw Caden this week and he had actually GAINED a little weight!! I was so shocked since he was so sick the whole week before Christmas. He's just over 22 lbs. now. Good News!!!

We don't have anything big planned for the weekend, just company! I hope everyone has a really nice one!

Love & hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Caden

I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was good. Caden and I stayed home from the basketball game in Ozona Friday night. We ran around a little after school, then just played at home that evening. Jeremy, Caden, and I spent most of Saturday at the junior high basketball tournament. Then we went to my mom and dad's house for the day on Sunday.

Dad's procedure went very smoothly Friday. The surgeon thinks he got all the spot that was precancerous, but Dad has to go back in 6 months for the surgeon to check. Dad didn't act like anything had been done on Sunday!

The Lady Hawks and Hawks won their games against Ozona Friday night. The girls won by like 50 points.........you see why we stayed home??? The guys won by 10 points I think. They travel to Junction tomorrow night. Ozona's girls beat Junction's girls, so I think we are staying home again!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks!! Beat Junction!!~*~

Friday night will be a better game! We play Big Lake. It's always a pretty good game. Jeremy's dad and step-mom are coming to see us this weekend, so they will be here for it, and my parents are coming to watch the game too.

There is not a lot going on this week. Caden has been feeling well and doing great! I cut his hair Friday night.....I couldn't remember what we spent most of our tiem doing that night, and that was it! We thought we liked him with shaggy hair, but he looks WAY cuter with short hair!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Monday, and I hope you have a great week!!

Don't forget the West Texas Rehab Telethon!!! I don't know if it's nationally broadcast or not....probably not, but we get it all over TX, and our family in New Mexico can get it. Tune in if you can! 7:47 pm!!!

Love & Hugs,
Vicki, Jeremy, and Caden

Thursday~~

"The eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live long day.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them,
At night, or early in the morn'.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
'Till Gabriel blows his horn!................."

How ‘bout them HORNS!!!!!!!!!

What an awesome game it was last night between USC and UT! I thought it was over when the Horns were 12 points behind, but don’t ever count Vince Young out!!! Jeremy, Caden, and I just stayed home and watched, but it was the most exciting football game I have ever watched! We have the greatest UT fanatics here in Wall..............the Specks! They have had a Longhorn with a rose in its mouth made out of Christmas lights covering the roof of their house since we found out UT would be in the Rose Bowl! It is soooooo cool! I know it was burning bright last night!

Here is Caden and I getting ready to watch the game...........I'm trying to put up his "Hook 'Em Horns" sign!!!

I want to remind everyone of the West Texas Rehab Telethon this month. It is

Saturday, January 21 at 7:00 pm.
It is held at the Abilene Civic Center, and will be broadcast on CBS for sure, and maybe FOX.
Caden’s story and then Caden, Jeremy, and I will be on at
7:47 pm. DON’T MISS IT!!! If you have any money left over from Christmas, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE donate to the Rehab Center! It is amazing what a place like WTRC does for people and the money that’s donated helps provide services to people who can’t afford to pay for them. It is the most awesome place for kids like Caden to get physical, occupational, and speech therapy, not to mention what they do for hearing, prosthetics, and adults. Even if Jeremy and I lost our jobs today, we would find something else to do so we could stay in San Angelo because of the WTRC. It’s that important to Caden!!! And if we couldn’t stay here, Abilene would be out next choice of places to live because that is where the other WTRC is located! The Bellamy Brothers are going to be at the telethon and will be performing, plus many others. It is going to be so much fun! DON'T MISS IT!!! 7:47 pm!!!!

We are all dragging a little this morning! Besides the game that was on late, Caden woke up several times last night and I had to get up and put him back to sleep. I don’t know why; he just had a bad night. When I don’t get enough sleep, I get a headache, so that’s what I have this morning! Of course when he cried, it woke Jeremy up too, so he’s tired also, and I bet Mr. Batman is tired too!!!

The Hawks and Lady Hawks travel to Ozona tomorrow night for another district basketball game. The girls are 4-0, and the boys are 2-0. The boys had a real nail bitter on Tuesday night against Grape Creek! They came from behind and won the game by 2 points!! Most of the boys’ teams in our district are really good, so the Hawks have hard games almost every time. Some of the girls’ teams aren’t as good as others, so we have a few games that are easier than others. The boys will have another tough one tomorrow night!

~*~Good Luck Lady Hawks & Hawks!!! Beat the Lions!!!~*~

My dad has his surgery to remove the precancerous spot tomorrow at 1:00 pm, so if you have a chance, say a little prayer that everything goes smoothly. It should be able to be done laparoscopic, but they are prepping him for major surgery just in case something goes wrong. If all goes well, he will get to go home tomorrow afternoon late, but if they have to do more extensive surgery, he will be kept over night. He’s one of the BIGGEST UTT fans I know, so he was really excited last night!!!

I suppose that is it for this update! I finally have pictures from Ruidoso and Christmas. I hope you enjoy them!! Have a great day, and a wonderful weekend!

Wednesday~~
Well, I am terribly sorry for keeping you all waiting so long for this update. I let time get away from me after we got home from our trip. We were pretty busy, even with no school!!

All my family, including us, made it to and from Ruidoso without a hitch........Praise God! We all had a really nice trip and a wonderful Christmas. Actually, to tell the truth, I didn't feel up to par while we were in the mountains. I think it was the elevation change. I never got used to it. The whole time we were there I felt a little dizzy, nauseous, and tired. I couldn't even climb the stairs where we were staying without being out of breath! Terrible huh?? I got really nauseous when we were going up to the ski area. My dad felt the same way while we were there. Besides that, Ruidoso was really nice! We skied one day. There were only 4 runs open, but when you are as out of shape as I am, and you haven't skied in 5 years.......that's enough to WEAR YOU OUT!!! Plus my sister and her husband were learning, so it was good for them, and it wasn't crowded at all.

This Christmas was a little weird. I don't know why, but it didn't seem like Christmas time, even when we were here at home and I was trying to finish my shopping. It could have been because it was like 70 degrees, even in Ruidoso! Maybe it's because I am getting older, but it didn't seem like Christmas had the excitement that it used to have! Don't get me wrong.......it was really nice!

Caden got lots of goodies for Christmas! He got lots fo clothes and shoes. Our Kids Shoes store was going out of business before Christmas, so I got him some Nikes for 60ff!! I got a couple of pairs for now, and some for the next year or two. My sister got him some Wranglers and REAL cowboy boots! Jeremy got him some Robeez boots that are lined in sherpa. They are SSOOOOO cute! Of course it's been too hot here for him to wear them yet! Actually I put them on him today because it was 50 this morning! I figured that may be as cold as it gets this winter! It's been in the 80's the last 2 days, 86 yesterday to be exact. That broke a record! We are expecting a cold front the next 2 days.....it's supposed to be in the 60's!!! HA HA!! Anyways, we made Caden a bear while we were there, and even stuffed him ourselves. My mom and dad got him a puppy that operated on a switch that Caden can hit and make the puppy walk and bark! Then they all went in on this thing that his Tumbleform chair can sit on and it spins around. If you get the Abilitations catalog, it was on the cover. It hasn't come in yet because it was their most popular item this Christmas! He'll love ti when it comes in! He also got some cute books and a baby Eeyore that plays peak-a-boo when he rattles a rattle. He loves everything he got!!

Jeremy and I had to come home a day earlier than the rest of the family for basketball practice. On our way home, Jeremy found out some sad news. One of the senior girls here at the high school had been in a bad car accident and was killed. She was by herself and lost control and rolled her car several times. She didn't play basketball, but did play softball and was in several organizations. She was a sweet and beautiful young lady. Please pray for the Martinez family as they start the New Year without their beautiful daughter Tiffani.

We had a game scheduled for the day after we got home, and Jeremy wasn't sure what to do after finding out this news. Since it didn't interfere with any of the services, they decided to keep the girls on as close a schedule as they could, and we played the game. I wasn't sure how it would turn out since we all knew that the girls took this very hard, but they played great and came back from a 10 point deficit to wint he game!!! We were all really proud of the girls!

Since then, we have had 2 more district games before school even started back! The Lady Hawks are now 4-0 in district, and they are playing GREAT!!!

Yesterday was a work day for all us teachers, and the kids came back today. Needless to say, no one was ready to be back! Although there is something good about a schedule. I wasn't ready for work again, but I was ready for a schedule!

Caden has been really healthy since we have been back from the mountains. For weeks or even months before Christmas he was terribly congested, and since we came home it seems to be gone! Praise God! (and knock on wood!!!) You all know that he was throwing up the week before Christmas, and it stuck with him for a few days while we were in Ruidoso, but finally got out of his system, and no one else caught whatever it was. I am sure he lost some weight during that week, so we are trying to pack it back on him! He's really cute and fun to hang out with! He's got quite the personality! He'd rather live upside down than anything else. His new name is Batman!!!

Before we came back to work, I had mentioned to Jeremy that I wanted to paint our bedroom. My mom bought us a comforter a long time ago and it has just been sitting in our floor because it's sage green and tan and our room was red, white, and blue with blue walls. I knew I had to paint before we could use the comforter. So Jeremy was a good sport and we went to Home Depot to pick out a color. We didn't take a pillow sham or anything. We picked out a tan color. We got home and primed the walls and started painting one wall tan. It looked AWFUL with the bedspread! So we started over! We primed that wall again, and went to get a new color. This time I took the pillow sham and we got a sage green. Now, it's finished and it's so pretty and relaxing!!!

All of our Christmas decorations are still up. My grandmother always said to have them down by Jan. 1, but it didn't happen! Hopefully we can get them down this weekend!

Jeremy finally got a nice buck! He's been hunting many times this season, and just watched the deer. He'd seen this particular buck one time before and couldn't get a shot at him, but this time he got him. He was really excited!

We have had several grass fires around the ranches near San Angelo. In fact, all the ranch land around where Jeremy hunts burned right up to the deer lease, but finally was stopped. The fire in Cross Plains was probably the most devastating because it got into the town and burned 70 something houses and a church. I grew up 10 miles from Cross Plains. The last wild fire, between Big Lake and Sterling City, burned an estimated 50,000 acres. Thank god it was just land, and not homes, although most ranchers don't have those goats and cattle insured! This HOT, DRY weather has got to come to an end sometime soon! There is no rain in the forecast for a long time though.

I guess that is all for this update. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Any resolutions???? Those above are really mine. We'll see how they go! May 2006 bring great things to all of us!!! We love you all and thank you for another year of wonderful family, friendship, and support. Thank you for all that you do for Jeremy, Caden, and I.

A special thank you to Mrs. Book for helping me out at Wal-Mart the other evening! I really needed it!

Hugs & love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & "Batman"

PS.......I have a few pictures from our trip, I just have to get them off the camera and onto the computer. I will try in the morning!!!
