Better late than never, right??? Here are a few pictures of Caden's birthday party. The first few are of Caden and his baby cousin Benton. They were sooooo cute! The party was fun and Caden got lots of great things! We went with the western theme, as you can see from the cake!

It's finally getting cold around here! It probably won't last too long though!

Caden is doing well! (knock on wood!) He's managed to stay pretty healthy so far! He's battled the normal congestion that all of us with allergies have had to battle in the past few months, but besides that, he's been pretty good. Again, KNOCK ON WOOD! He's still loving school and everything to do with it.

His teacher and speech therapist have a new challenge for him! They put up pictures of objects or objects doing things, and they ask him questions like "Which one is the dog?" or "Which picture is a person running?" and when the speech therapist points to the wrong picture, he's supposed to do nothing, but when she points to the correct picture, he is supposed to hit his switch. Last week, he got 80% of his questions CORRECT!!! Awesome, huh??

He also took 50 something steps on the treadmill last week in PT. Of course it's with the harness holding him up, but he took them! He's taking more steps in his walker also! He loves that walker!

His new chair FINALLY got approved after many "letters of medical necessity" from every doctor and therapist he has!! It should be ordered now, and on it's way! We can't wait! He's really outgrown his KidKart.

The Lady Hawks cross-country team got 2nd at the Regional meet, and finished a close 3rd at the State meet last weekend. We got 3rd by only 1 point! So close to 2nd! The Hawks cross-country team WON the Regional meet, and went on to dominate the field and they WON the State meet!!! It was an exciting weekend!

Basketball season is under way now! The Lady Hawks have been winning by larger margins than ever before! They have scored 80 something points in 3 games they have played since Tuesday! They are doing so well! It looks to be a very exciting season to come!

I am not the most avid reader of all English teachers out there, but this past summer, I got hooked on the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I am sure you have all heard about it! The books are amazing! Well, the movie came out at midnight last night, and although most of my students went to see the midnight premiere, I just couldn't make it and come to work today! A bunch of ladies and I are going to see it this afternoon though. I can't wait!

We are ready for Thanksgiving break around here. I believe the teachers are as ready as the students! We will be heading for New Mexico as usual. Jeremy will get to enjoy some good quail hunting with his brother and dad, and I will get to enjoy some EARLY morning shopping Friday with his step-mom. We will all enjoy some amazing food also!

Christmas will be here before we know it! The dilemma always comes up as to what to get for Caden. Anyone have any bright ideas??? We usually find something, but it's always TOUGH!

I hope you are all staying well and warm! Please pray for Brandon Clark and his family. He just found out that his cancer is back and that it's terminal. The community around San Angelo and Wall are raising money to send him, his wife, and their 3 young kids to Disney! If you live around here, please donate!!!

Thanks for checking in on our family. We love you all!
Hugs & love,

Well, I guess first of all I should ask you all to say a little prayer for the Little Man. He's taken the stomach bug and has been throwing up for 3 days now. Well, he didn't throw up yesterday, but did late last night. It started Wednesday morning early. He is holding down water and Pedialyte pretty well, so I feel he is staying hydrated. He kept down some mashed potatoes and a little formula yesterday and then threw up again about 1:30 am this morning. It seems like he's lost 10 lbs. in the last 3 days! He looks soooooo skinny!

Please also pray for everyone around Galveston, TX that were effected by the hurricane. It's a long way from us, but lots of people lost all their belongings and property.

Can you all believe we are getting ready for his 5th birthday????? I can not believe he’s getting so old! Our little family party is going to be a western theme this year. “Sheriff Caden” will be an old man!!! I can’t find anything to get him for his birthday so if any of you have any great ideas, please let me know. It’s so hard! You can’t buy him 5 yr. old toys, and the baby toys are........well, just that – baby toys! Plus he has most of the ones he could actually play with, so what is left??? Help, please!!!

We have been super busy with school and cross-country. I can’t believe the 1st six-weeks is almost over. Each year flies by more quickly until it’s hard to tell where one ended and a new one began! They just all run together! The cross-country girls and guys are running really well! They’ll get a real test this weekend when they go to the meet in Lubbock. I was going too, but it looks like I will have to stay home with Caden.

Caden got his KidWalk walker in! It’s gotta have a new headrest for him to use it, but it’s great! It's so cool.....it's bright green and the back wheels light up when they move!! I’ll get some pictures when it’s ready for him to “walk” around in!

I guess that is about all for now. Thanks for checking in on Caden. We really appreciate it and I’m sorry if you often find there is no new update. Sometimes, there just isn’t much to talk about!

Here are a few new pics!

Wow, it's been too long since I've updated, huh??? This summer has been FAST and FURIOUS! June was basically full of basketball stuff......camps and summer league. Then all of a sudden it was July, which has been full of traveling.

Caden didn't get to go to the WTRC summer camp, but we'll try again next year! He's had a blast this summer and seems to love swimming more than ever! His babysitter/girlfriend, Mackenzie has a pool, so she's been taking him swimming this summer a lot. She's sooooo amazing and we thank God everyday that she loves Caden sooooo much!

July started out with our annual 4th of July trip to my sister's house. She lives on the lake, plus she has a pool & hot tub, so there are lots of activities at her house!! It was a fun trip and the only tragic event was that I jumped in the lake to water ski without realizing I had my good shades on......so they rest at the bottom of the lake now!

The week after the 4th, we were off to Arlington for Jermy's coaching school. Caden got to stay with his Mamaw & Papaw (my parents) while we were gone. It was a good trip, but Caden got a stomach bug while we were gone and threw up all one day. It doesn't make for a very relaxing trip when you know your kiddo is at home sick!

We finally got to stay home for about a week after that, and then we were off to the annual lake trip with all Jeremy college buddies and their wives. This time Caden stayed here at our house and his Mimi & Pops (Jeremy's dad and step-mom) came here from NM to keep him. Our time at the lake was a blast! Caden also had a blast with his grandparents!!! He ran a slight fever on Saturday, but not too much to worry about.

Now we are home until Sunday, when we will be off to Levelland for the girls basketball team camp, and from there, we will go to NM for a few days with Jeremy's family.

Caden has had a really good summer! He hasn't been too sick (knock on wood). He has had some congestion that has been hanging on for a couple of months, and he's been on nose spray, Claritin, and inhaled steroids to fight it. It seems a little better than it was earlier in the summer. He isn't doing anything new and exciting to talk about right now, but we're waiting everyday! He has been approved for a walker that will have enough support for him and hopefully it will give him a little freedom. We are also in the process of getting him a new wheelchair. The first one we picked out wasn't approved because it wasn't techinally called a "wheelchair", but this new one we are trying for should be approved!

He's still his same ole crazy kid who loves playing in the floor with all his toys and going outside to swing or slide. He's still been going to daycare most of the week so he can see his buddies. They are so cute when he gets there! They all scream out "Baby Caden" when we take him through the door. It cracks me up because he's the same age as them, but they still think he's a baby.....I guess because Veronica or Prissy have to hold him still. Still, they are always sooooo excited to see him! One day, I went to pick him up and 2 of the girls in his class were standing by his chair and each one had one of Caden's hands and they were doing Patty-Cake with him. He loved it!

We are very excited that he will be with the same teacher (Ms. Liz) that he had last year. She is amazing, so it's really important that he will have her for a full year! He starts back the same day we start....Aug. 25. We hope he has his new chair to start school in!! He'll be excited to get to ride the bus again! I hope we have the same drivers as last year because they were soooo sweet!

We are a little concerned that we can't find Caden's formula very easily anymore. See, he still drinks about 3 bottles a day that are liquid formula mixed with 2 scoops of dry formula for added calories. This is where ha gets most of his calories (even though he's sooooo skinny!). I think Similac is discontinuing the type Caden drinks. He drinks the plain ole Similac with Iron (not Advance) because that is the type that made him throw up the least when he was a baby. He's been drinking it for 4 years! The only thing we are hoping for is that he's old enough that we can switch to something else and it won't upset his tummy too much. We are buying up all we can find while we can still get it!

Tomorrow starts the Fill the Boot campaign for San Angelo, so everyone get out your change and find a firefighter at an intersection in town!

I guess that is about all for now. Sorry it's taken me so long to update. I hope you're all having a fun summer!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & Little Man

Well, I am sure I have lots of people out there mad at me! 3 months is the longest I have ever gone without updating Caden's site. We just get so busy, and lots of times there's not much to update about. I do apologize, and I'll try to get you all caught up on the Little Man.

The picture above is of Caden in his Lady Hawk Cross-Country t-shirt saying the Lady Hawks are #1!! His shirt says.........."Why is everyone chasing my girlfriends?"

When I last updated, he'd just gotten his teeth fixed. That went really well. I don't have a picture that really shows them, so I have no proof!

Since then, we had lots of basketball until the Lady Hawks got beat in the Regional Finals, just 1 win away from the State tournament. It was a great season!

After a little time to mourn basketball season being over, Jeremy then moved on to help coach track. The Hawks and Lady Hawks had LOTS of boys and girls advance to the Regional Track meet, and we now have 1 guy and 1 girl going on to run at the State track meet this weekend in Austin.

***Good Luck Colleen & Derek!!***

My One Act Play season went really well this year. Our kids advanced to the 3rd round (Area). That is the farthest they have advanced in a few years. It was a lot of fun and we were sad when it had to end.

This past weekend, Jeremy went to a basketball clinic in San Antonio, and I went to watch the State One Act Plays in Austin. So, the Little Man got to stay with my mom and dad. We also had Monday off from school, so we were gone from Friday until Monday! Caden had a blast with Mamaw & Papaw! He was healthy the whole time and was a really good boy!

Caden is on the waiting list for the West TX Rehab summer camp. It is the first week of June, so hopefully we will know something before too long. I am sure he would love it! I hope he gets to go!

We are waiting to find out if he's going to get a new wheelchair. Our insurance says they agree it's time for him to get a new one, they just don't want to get the one we picked out. They want him to have one that actually looks like a wheelchair I guess. His PT also found a walker that can be adapted well enough to support his head, so we are waiting on that too! He's going to have all kinds of new gadgets soon!

School is quickly winding down and TAKS testing is over, so now we can actually do some fun stuff in class. I can't believe we only have 2 weeks of school left! I am as ready for summer as the kids are! Caden will get to be with the same teacher next year, and we are VERY glad for that. Mrs. Mayville is amazing! I am posting a picture of Caden and his love for worms.....yes, real worms! They studied bugs and worms in class, then he got to touch a real worm. He loved it!

My best friend's and her husband's adoption of their daughter was finalized this past week, so we are VERY happy about that! They make a beautiful family!

Please pray for the Mueller family from Wall. Their mom, Leslie, was killed in a freak hiking accident this past weekend. She leaves behind a daughter that just got married, another daughter who is 2 weeks away from graduation, a young son who will be in high school next year, and a beloved husband. She used to be a OB/GYN here in San Angelo until she retired to spend more time with her family. Please pray for peace and understanding that surpasses anything else.

That's about all for now. I will not let it go so long without another update!

Caden's dental work went well yesterday. We had to hang out in the hospital room for a lot longer than anyone else so they could watch him for the malignant hyperthermia, but all was good. He has 2 pretty new white caps in the front, and 2 silver caps on the right bottom, and 1 silver cap on the right top. Somehow the left side lucked out and got no work! It went a lot faster than we thought it would......except the waiting to go home, which was okay! Our anesthesiologist, Dr. McClellan, was AMAZING!! He took such good care of Caden and his crazy parents! We will not have anything done in the future if he's not the man in charge!

Thanks for checking on Caden and the rest of us. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thursday~~
Well, no dental work today! Caden started running a fever yesterday morning, and still had it when we went in for his check-up from the doctor. He has an upper respiratory infection & ear infection. Just about right, huh??? I told the lady at the dentist office that if we had to wait another 3 months to schedule this to be done, that it would NEVER get done because something would always happen. So, he's on antibiotics for a week, then his dental work is scheduled for the next week. (Jan. 31) So, please pray that he gets and stays healthy before then!

The Lady Hawks have a BIG game tomorrow night against San Saba. If we win, we will be in 3rd place in district. We have to be in the top 3 in district to make it to the play-offs!

We do not have school tomorrow because of the stock show, so it's a short week here! I wasn't at school yesterday because I stayed home w/Caden, so it's REALLY a short week for me!

It's VERY cold here today. It's probably why everyone is sick.....it's 60 degrees one day, and 30 the next! That's Texas weather for ya!

My best friend went to get the baby, who was born yesterday. They plan on keeping her and giving her a good home as long as they can.....hopefully FOREVER!!! So, please continue to pray for everyone involved in the adoption, especially the birth father. Please let him see what a wonderful life my friend and her husband can provide for the baby!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I hope you are all safe and healthy!

Tuesday~~
Lots to update!! Caden is doing really well! (knock on wood!) He continues to be his silly self and cracks us up all the time! He did pull a stunt night before last and woke up at 1:30 am and stayed awake all night! He's a stinker sometimes!

Since I last posted, he has had an appointment with his neurologist, Dr. Tomasovic. Dr. T was impressed by Caden! This is the doctor who once told us Caden would never be able to communicate with the world! Well, when he came in the room, Caden tried to give him High Five! He also made notes about Caden trying to take steps when we support him, and Caden's "communication." It was a nice appointment! We are thinking of trying to add Creatine (small doses) to his mito cocktail, and we may up his dose of COQ10, depending on what his blood levels show. We will go back to see him this summer and probably have a new MRI done since he hasn't had one since Mar.'05.

We all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I hope you all did also! Caden got lots of goodies! The break flew by too quickly........it always does!

Caden still loves his PPCD class at Reagan elem. He also loves riding the bus! I don't love him riding the bus, but he smiles each morning he gets on it! He brings home lots of cool projects they do in class.

He's finally over 25 lbs. and can wear 2T shirts and pants, as long as the pants have adjustable waist! He's growing longer and longer, which poses a need for a new wheelchair. We are going to take him to Home Medical Thursday afternoon to measure him and get it ordered.

I need to ask for everyone's prayers that Caden stays healthy because he has to have dental work done on Thursday. He has to have it done at the hospital, and he will have to be put under anesthesia. That poses lots of risks with his mito disorder! Please pray for good health, speedy recovery, and wisdom for the dentist & anesthesiologist.

Please also pray for my best friend who is hoping to adopt a baby. Everything was looking great for the adoption, and the baby is almost here, but the birth father is saying he doesn't want the baby, but he's going to fight the adoption. Who knows what he's thinking! Please pray for everyone involved.......especially the baby!

Hugs & Love,
Vicki, Jeremy, & the Night Owl
