Laney,
I am so happy that your surgery is over and you are doing so well. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Katie has been filling up eggs with all kinds of goodies to hide when you are able to be out of your wheelchair and it will not be long! We'll have a belated Easter egg hunt this year, but it will be no less fun and exciting! I am so proud of you Laney! Little Erin hasn't realized yet how blessed she is to have you as her sister. I love you Laney! Happy Easter!

Oh Beth Anne I am so sorry that this surgery will be necessary but I am happy that it might treat the AVN and that nothing worse will happen. Lots of Hurler babyies have had this surgery and are so tough and fly right through. I am sure Laney will be no different. You are so good with her and she and Erin can recuperate together. You will have your hands full waiting on your little ladies but I know your friends and family will suport you any way they can. It will be good to be able to deal with this and hopefully take care of it for good. I am so sorry about soccer. I know Andrew loves his soccer time and I always hate for him to miss out on anything he loves. Years from now, it will just be a wink in time and very soon she will be back in the game. Keep us updated as we continue to send you our love and support. Lots of love and Merry Christmas. Tell the girls that their lovely pictures are up on our front door for all to see. Love, Anne

I am wondering about getting my ears pierced. Are you able to change your earrings yet or do you still wear the ones you got when they pierced them? How do you like school? Who is your teacher? I like school really good, but I miss you. When you get back I might have my ears pierced too!

I am so sorry about your home getting bought. I have friends that that same thing happen to here. There house was over 100 years old and they were an older couple. In their situation they were bought out for the airport. I think they got a pretty good price and in the end enjoyed fixing up a new smaller place-which was good for them. I hope this will end up being good for you all too- in the end. It sounds like you are doing pretty good with it now.

I love the pics!!! So cute. Hannah just had a moving up ceremony for going to the middle school and I didn't even cry but if Andrew gets that far I will be a blubbering idiot.

So glad to hear things went well for Miss Laney. She really should be a poster child for BMT. She is so precious, so beautiful... what a blessing from God she is!!!! Thank you for the update and we will continue to check in on you.
Sending you all our love,

Just checking in on you to see how Laney's appointments went. I read on Hailey and Makayla Chaver's site that you got to meet Jan. I know that must have blessed her so much to see you and to see how wonderful little Miss Laney is doing. Thank you for sharing her with us all. She is such an encouragement to so many... I hope you know that. Anyway, we will check back later. I pray everything went well for you.
Sending all our love and prayers,

Yes, I still check on Laney from time to time! Glad to know and see she is doing well. By now your worrisome week at Duke should be over. Hope all went well especially with the sedation.

I see you are at Duke doing an echo and pulmonary function test. I hope all is going smoothly. I know you will be glad to get back home. I am sure Laney is wowing everyone!! I put new pics on our page. I liked the old ones so much, I hated to take them off but I got a new roll of film so I couldn't resist. Hope to see your Duke update soon. Love, Anne

Hi Beth Anne,
I know exactly how you feel!!! I just said the same thing on Nolan's site. I think after the first few years of intense updates and something going on all the time, it is kinda lonely out here. Not that I want to go back to all the drama, but it is nice to know people are still out there thinking of you. I want you to know I may not sign in often but I do check the site and enjoy reading the updates, I call it keeping up with my kids. I feel disconected with a lot of the hurler families but there are a few of you guys that I will always keep up with. Thanks for updating!!
Love,
Nancy

Dear Beth Anne,
Just wanted you to know that we love your updates. Please continue Laney's site. You and Laney are such an encouragement for so many MPS families. I still check in on you and other MPS families. It somehow keeps Kaylee's Spirit even more alive. It helps me to see what she could have been... and I smile. Knowing that I may not have her physically here with me, but it helps knowing that there are others out there that are doing well. With all our "Hurler" babies.. they still have a little look that is the same. I can see Kaylee in all of them. Anyway, sorry to ramble. We are praying for your upcoming trip to Duke. Praying that everything goes smoothly with NO complications.
Love and prayers to you and your family,

Stacey Krause <kayleespromise@msn.com>

Hi Beth Anne~
I have been searching every webpage I could find to find Laney! I could not remember which MPS child it was that was diagnoised in utero and was the youngest transplanted child that I had heard of. I just emailed someone this morning asking if they could remember who it was that was 9 weeks old when she had her transplant.... I am SO thankful that I found your page! PLEASE do not stop your updates! Yes...they are very helpful! Someone actually gave me your website when Hailey was first diagnoised at 3 1/2 mo. to give us hope. Hailey is 6mo. post transplant and doing well. We are now faced with another transplant. Hailey now has a newborn baby sister, Makayla who has also been diagnoised with MPS. She is scheduled to undergo her transplant sometime this month. She is 2 1/2 months old.
By keeping your webpage updated, even if it is only every 3 months or so helps us who are facing transplant or are post transplant. Laney is such a beautiful little girl and seeing her pictures with her adorable smiling face and reading her progress gives me much hope for both of my grand daughters. Again, Please keep up your updates. I will bookmark your site and check back again soon. I will most likely be there when you arrive for Laney's studies as for I will be staying with Makayla. Please if possible, contact me via email to let me know when you arrive. I hope to get a chance to meet you both!
God bless & have a great week!
Hugs & Prayers~

Here I am checking your page. I am sorry you are feeling so anxious about your trip to Duke. Can they not use another kind of sadation med or give her something for vomiting before she wakes up. They have done that for Andrew. Is the MRI completely necessary? Do they know how sick she gets? I am sure you have been through all of this.

I love the fall picture!!! How beautiful. It makes me want to go clean up around here so I can get my fall things out. Andrew is supposed to have his port out on Fri. I was supposed to be last fri but he got a cold and then on Thur I found blood in his ear. Now he has an ear infection and it looks like his tub is out! Shoot. Another surgery. Just what we needed. I think they should look in to gluing them in next time.

Good luck at Duke and I hope the sadation goes better than last time. Love, Anne

Stopping in to say hello. Laney is a doll! My grandbaby, Hailey has MPS and had her transplant at Duke on March 1. She is doing very well! She has a baby sister who is due on July 17. We don't know yet if the baby (Makayla) has MPS or if she is a carrier, but just reading Laney's gives me such hope for both of the girls. Makayla will be born at Duke and they will immediately begin testing to see if she has MPS. If so, they will begin everything early as possible like they did with Laney.
Laney is such a cute little girl! I just love the ladybug costume! Enjoy your summer and watching her play & just being a child. They grow up too fast!
Be blessed!
Many prayers to you and your family~

I am so glad to see an update. Laney looks great and I am glad your father is still safe state side for right now. I too am so sad about Jordan. I was so sure that being so young would make things so easy. I wake up at night and pray for them. I thought of you today because we are heading to Dr. Escolar's office next Tue and that is where we saw you-just starting out. Today I was making something and I needed a zip-loc. I had saved all of the zip-locs that our meds were delivered in when we lived out-patient at Duke, so I headed downstairs to find one. I pulled one out and saw the drug name and the date (so long ago) and just started to shake and cry. It can haunt you for a long time (maybe forever) in so many different ways. It is good to know to expect it and that we all deal with it. I am so thankful when I look at Andrew. Love, Anne

I had originally planned to visit as many caringbridge sites as possible, and leave some encouraging words, prior to my daughters passing. Unfortunately her passing came sooner than we had expected, but longer than any of her doctors expected.

Another angel takes flight.

My daughter Pam had a brain tumor and was fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My youngest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Laney. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.(Just call on Jesus).

I would also like to share a saying that was on the card my wife Diane picked out, and we bought for Pam:

If you were a star
That wasn’t expected back
In the universe
For a thousand years,
I’d wait.

If you were the sky
And everyone went inside
When you got sad
And started to rain,
I’d stay.

And if you were a peach
And the world decided to get rid of all peaches,
I’d pick you up,
Put you in my pocket…

AND KEEP YOU.

Prayers have scientifically been proven to work.

REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Happy "Birthday" Laney!!!!! It is so amazing to hear about all the "normal" things you are doing. You just keep on going and don't ever look back! I can't believe it has been over a year since we met your mom and dad. My heart was breaking for them having to take their "healthy" looking new baby down the road she had to travel. It was hard enough with Andrew and I had visual signs that he needed help. His birthday is tomorrow. He will be 4 years old. I guess I should be able to remeber your transplant date from now on. Enjoy your day! Love,Anne

Hi Beth. It was so nice to meet Laney today. I think of you both often. I am looking at her website and tears of happiness and heartache are streaming down my face. I just think about how we used to play with dolls when we were little girls....you were always the best "mommy". I know that the little angel Laney was given specially to YOU for that reason. I look at my Meredith who is 10 1/2 months old and Laney who is now 14 months old and see us as sweet little girls again. We had no idea what life had in store. I pray that our babies will be able to play together one day. When Meredith is old enough to understand, I will tell her a night-night story about how God work miracles and does not always grant us understanding of everything here on EARTH......and little Laney will be the "fairy tale princess" of my story. I love you both.
Love,
Scarlett and Meredith Rose

I know what you are talking about. Riley came home to Oklahoma from having two transplants in Minnesota for Hurlers, he went into the hospital the day after we got home. I was not ready for this. I was on some nurses butt every day for something from not washing their hands to not starting his feeds when they needed to be started or not getting meds on a timely basis. I called our nurse practitioner, Katie, crying to come back. We stuck it out and I think they were glad for us (me) to leave. Thankfully we only had to do clinic from October to May. You get used to your transplant team knowing what to do and then you come home and wonder what planet this nurse or doctor are on. Hang in there and hopefully your clinic days will get better (and fewer)....now that they know you mean business. May God Be With You.

Hi Laney! You sure are cute as a button! You don't know me but I have a special little girl in my life who also has Hurlers. Through her I have met so many wonderful hurler children and their families. I will be praying for you too now! It made me sad to read how hard you cried trying to access your port...and then it seems...all for nothing. You shouldn't have to go through such bad days! I will be checking back on you. God Bless!

Dear Beth Anne,
Don't you just want to ring these people's neck??!! Is it a rule that because our children have Hurlers we must deal with stupid, rude people on a daily basis?? I know my life is full of them. My husband says "be nice, we need them." Ahhhh Now I know why folks go postal. I am glad Laney is doing so well. We will be at Duke for one day-Oct 13th. What a lot of driving for 15 mins. Can't I just send a picture? I hope things shape up in your neck of the woods. Love, Anne

We love and miss you guys and (as much as I want to see you again) I hope we are not here when you guys get here for the one year studies. I can't believe the nurse at the hospital . . . I pray that this doesn't happen to you guys again. Poor Laney! I'm glad you let the nurse have it.

Hi Laney :o)
I came across your name because your mommy signed my nephew's site (Nolan Ramsey). It's so nice to meet you! What a beautiful little girl you are!! It warms my heart to read your site and see that you're home and doing well. Last week was a tough week with the loss of several children. Thank your mommy for dishing out an extra dose of faith and hope through her entries.
It seems that I pick up a new friend each day through the Caringbridge site - what a wonderful network! I'll be checking in on you again real soon! You keep up the good work - stay healthy and strong! You are in my thoughts and prayers little one. God Bless.

Hey everyone!
I hope you remember me, I was one of Laney's nurses on 5200. I was visiting Reeses' site and saw where you had signed the guestbook and got the address from there. I have wondered how you guys were doing. The pictures are awesome! She is as cute as ever! I still remember that sweet little face. I am glad her Pop is home and I pray for a speedy recovery. I remember what a special family Laney has. Who could not get better with all those grandparents helping out? Ha - Well, I am glad I found her site and I'll be checking in on her often. Take care and God Bless! I didn't realize her birthday was August 14th, mine is the 13th--unfortunately I will be much older than one! Ha Ha
