I can't believe it has been almost a year since our bubba, Kaleo, went to Heaven. Kanoelani has Kaleo’s persona. Today, Kanoe took out his wrestling Kane mask, Lita gloves, sword & shield on her own. She came out of Keanu and Kaleo’s room with the mask on. She looked just like Kaleo. She also tells her Mommy & Daddy “Thank you” for everything! Her mannerism is so Kaleo!

Kanoe came back last night. Boy does she remind us of Kaleo. She totally has Kaleo's personality. I am sure Kaleo is whispering in her ear...Keanu was running today and Kanoe scolded him and told Keanu not to run. Sounds just like something Kaleo would have told Keanu. : )

This morning Keanu told me he had a dream about Kaleo. He was talking to Kaleo and then Kaleo disappeared. It is almost a year and I still can't believe Kaleo isn't here anymore. I believe that Kaleo is this black crow that watches me as I am driving. Today we went to our friend's house and he was on a tree saying hi to us!

I started transferring our video collection of the kids to DVDs. All of Kaleo’s videos were of him dancing. It was great. He was just a dancer. Falling in Love with You and We’re the Kids in America were his favorite songs that he danced to. It was a hoot! Kaleo also said his sister’s name in full when Kaleo was her age (3 yrs. Old).

We went to Oahu on June 22nd. It was hard the night before packing for only 4. It was sad to see Keanu having to bury himself in the sand without the help of his brother. Kaleo turned 6 last Friday...Happy Belated Birthday, Kaleo. I didn't have internet to update the page on his birthday. I hope Kaleo can forgive me. Aunty Jody and Mommy went to celebrate his birthday by going to a movie since we took him to see "White Chicks" last year on his birthday.

Yesterday, my students got their yearbooks. The yearbook staff at my school dedicated an entire page to Kaleo celebrating his life. It was beautiful! The students did a great job. It was very touching to see many of my students care so much about Kaleo.

As I am looking at this site, I am feeling a lot of pain.
We miss Kaleo a lot. Karen and I are going to try and make a quilt out of Kaleo's clothes. I can't part with his favorite t-shirts and shorts. Keanu has been talking a little more about Kaleo. He wants to go watch a WWE event again. John and I were shocked! Keanu said that maybe Kaleo will be sitting by us and watching it too.

Kaleo's spirit is definitely in Kanoe. Yesterday, while Keanu was practicing his speech for school, Kanoe was in the back of Keanu mimicking him. Something that Kaleo would always do to his doctors. What a character!
Kanoe will often point and say, "Ko." I think she has conversations with Kaleo.

Wow, we made it through Easter....although we think about how Kaleo's bone marrow was clear the same time last year.
Keanu and Kanoe went Easter Egg Hunting at Aunty Kehau and Uncle Paka's house. I am sure Kaleo was there watching his brother and sister find eggs. We hope you had a Happy Easter!

Tonight was a hard night. I was going through my memory sticks for my digital camera that I haven't touched since Kaleo passed away. I found a video clip that was taken in August when we went to Kaua'i. Our friends bought Kaleo a birthday cake since they didn't get to see him in July. We sang to Kaleo and of course Kaleo being his goofy self started singing to himself too. Boy, we are going to go through some tough times missing his sense of humor!

Wow, we can't believe it has been 3 months since the passing of our little angel. We got his class picture today and it was heartbreaking to know that he won't grow up with the rest of his classmates.

We have our good days and bad days. Unfortunately, I've had many bad days lately. I miss Kaleo so much that my stomach has an empty feeling that makes me not want to eat. : (
Maybe this will be a good way to diet! : )

I hope everyone had a good week. John took cupcakes to Kaleo's class. His teacher asked that each student bring a snack on Friday and made a schedule so that it was during the week of the student's birthday.(She is so organized. We love her!) Since Kaleo's birthday is in July she had him scheduled for today. The kids remembered John and several students waved hi.

Kaleo's Kindy Teacher sent me an email earlier this week and I wanted to share part of it with everyone.

"Kaleo's photo...the kids can go over to my desk anytime and get it and bring it over to the calendar group area. Someone usually gets it during our opening time, and then the conversations begin..."Kaleo is in heaven right now and he can see us"..."we can't see Kaleo anymore, but he is still right here in our hearts"...I love
the innocence/honesty of children!

It broke my heart but made me smile.

It has been a very quiet holiday in our home. Christmas isn't the same without Kaleo. We set up our Christmas tree in the family room this year since Kaleo's urn and pictures are there. This way Kaleo would be able to enjoy the tree with us. We brought pizzas, fruit and vegetable trays to Doernbechers Children's Hospital on Christmas Eve for the families that were staying at the hospital and for the staff. It was nice to see Kaleo's nurses again. We hope you have/had a nice holiday season.

Kaleo is now with the angles watching over us. He passed on at 6:15a.m. in his sleep. Kaleo got to listen to his Bob Marley CD all night and his last song he heard was Kaleohano this morning when mommy's alarm clark went off.

Kaleo exceeded the deadline. It appeared that he would only have two days to live from Thursday, November 11. However, he is still hanging on! : )
I started him on coral calcium. He was actually giving it to himself using a syringe. He also had some guava juice.

Kaleo continues to fight this horrible disease. His pediatrician came over on Sunday and said Kaleo's heart is still beating strong like a horse! He is such a trooper. Kaleo actually squeezed his Aunty Linda's finger today and sat up for a few minutes to watch T.V.

Last Thursday, WWE came out with a new Playstation 2 game. Of course, we bought it for Kaleo. Kaleo wanted to play against John. So John set it up. Kaleo always use to beat everyone when he used to play it in the hospital. John got all excited when he started winning. However, John looked over at Kaleo and saw that he fell asleep so that's why John was winning! : )

Too bad yesterday (Thursday) Keanu and Kaleo didn't have school due to parent conferences because Kaleo felt great! Kaleo's teacher called and he talked with her and wanted to go to school. He got to go with Mom to Krispy Kremes to get a doughnut. He felt really terrific and went to the cinema with Karen, James, and Keanu to see Sharks Tale. However,I think he had a little too much fun because he is back to a bad day. : (

Wow! After a long week of crying in pain...it was so nice to see Kaleo sitting at the dinner table, walking around the house, and spending time with the family. He hasn't complained about any pain in his body. Just headaches. He is still limping but at least he is walking around today.
It is Monday night and Kaleo is watching his favorite program...WWE!

Kaleo had an "OK" week. He went to school once this week. It happen to be right after his doctor's appt. He showed everyone his new patch. Kaleo has a patch to help with his pain 24 hours. The "hot pad" still keeps him comfortable at night. I think we need to get a microwave upstairs since we are constantly heating it in the microwave a 1,3,6 in the morning. WWE & his Playstation 2 keeps him occupied.

Kaleo's knee has been bothering him this past week. He went to the Doernbecher's and they are thinking of taking him off chemo. They will do a scan and if the tumors are growing rapidly, then they don't feel that the chemo will help. His counts are up but he is in pain. Even Doctor Lamkin and the nurses felt that he was really in pain when they saw him crying since they know how tough Kaleo is.

Kaleo has complained that his knee was bothering him. He seems to be in real pain. I think kindergarten is a lot for him right now. He didn't need a blood transfusion again...so that's a good thing. We have been blessed to have good friends looking for alternative treatments besides the one he is on now.

Well, Kaleo made it through his first day of Kindergarten. John had to take him to the hospital first to get a blood count. Then he took Kaleo to school. His counts are low but has agreed to take his vitamins since he doesn't eat much. We had a scare last night when his temperature got up to 103. But today at the clinic it was 97.

Kaleo did fine yesterday with his first day of chemo this time. He will have four days of chemo as an out patient, which is convenient for the family! Hopefully, he will stay healthy before he starts his big day on Friday, Sept. 10th...
KINDY! We are not sure if he is still hesitant about going to school because of the loss of his hair. We are still encouraging him though. : )

Kaleo's CBC results were positive. All his counts were up! Kaleo's white blood cells were so high that he doesn't have to take his last two shots of GCSF for this round. He is a happy boy! : )

We have been in Hawai'i for almost a whole week now. Kaleo is enjoying the beach and playing in the sand especially. Kaleo has been to a beach and/or pool 5 out of 6 days. So far no fever. But he is looking pretty tan even with loads of sun screen. He has a doctor's appointment tomorrow to check his counts. Hopefully, his counts will up!

Today Kaleo had his second and last day of chemotherapy for August. The Doctors have decided to go 2 days instead of 5 since we will be going to Hawai'i to visit family and friends who have not seen Kaleo since he was first diagnosed. Kaleo has been doing well and has not been sick. Cross your fingers...hopefully he won't catch anything while on the airplane or any time in Hawai'i.

We just got home from Redding, CA. Kaleo got to watch his cousin, Kekoa swim in a Regional Swim Meet. Kaleo is proud of his cousin's accomplishments! He loved hanging out with his girl cousins, Kiane and Kelsey and wrestling with his other boy cousin, Nolan. Kaleo also got to see his favorite Aunty and Uncle from Hawai'i, Aunty Judy and Uncle Tony. Kaleo went to Great America on Tuesday, August 10. He rode on a lot of rides since he is 44.5 inches tall now! : )

He will start a round of chemo today if his counts are up before going to Hawai'i.

Today Kaleo was expected to get his next round of chemotherapy as an outpatient. However, his counts are too low to receive his treatment. We will wait until next week when we come back from California. Kaleo is having fun right now with his cousins who are here visiting him from Hawai'i.

Kaleo went for his CBC. We were shock that he didn't have to get any "products" (blood transfusion and/or platelets)today. We were so ready for it! His white blood count is on the rise! No more shots at home! : ) Kaleo is happy...no pokes!

Kaleo is home! John phoned me from the hospital at 10:00 a.m. informing me that Kaleo was coming home today. All of Kaleo's tests came back negative for bacteria. He did not have a fever since Saturday 3 a.m. in the morning....So he is home now! : )

This is Kaleo's 4th day in the hospital since his last chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant back in February. He had a 102 temperature when we arrived back in Portland on Wednesday, July 21st.

On July 18th at 7 a.m., the entire family flew to Washington D.C. for Kaleo's Make A Wish trip. His wish was to meet WWE's Kane. Kaleo's Auntie Linda and cousin Angela met us at Regan International Airport. A limo picked us up and took us to our hotel. We then had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.

On July 19th, we woke up at the crack of dawn and walked to the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. We then went back to the hotel to rest for the main event of the trip...WWW Raw.
Kaleo got to meet Kane, Chuck, Batista, Triple H, and Edge.
After the meet and greet, we were invited to an informal dinner with WWE's invited guests.

After the dinner, we attended WWE RAW.
Kaleo was very lucky that evening. He got to go back stage and see what goes on during RAW. He also got to meet more WWE wrestlers. He even got to meet Vince and Stephanie McMahon!

After Monday night, we woke up the next morning to tour the White House and Smithsonian.

Finally, our trip came to an end and Kaleo woke up with a fever. He flew back from D.C. with a temperature. Later that evening he was admitted to the ER and has been at the hospital since.

I will keep you posted on his recovery.
