WHERE HAS 5 YEARS GONE? THE MEMORIES OF YOU ARE SO FRESH IN MY MIND & HAS NOT FADED WITH TIME. WE MISS YOU SO MUCH!!! IT IS ALWAYS HARD AT THIS TIME OF YEAR & THEN WITH YOUR BIRTHDAY AROUND THE CORNER IT GETS TOUGHER. IT IS STILL HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW & WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED.

THE TRIPLETS ALL KNOW YOUR NAME NOW. THEY POINT TO YOUR PICTURE & SAY "CHASIE" (SORRY, WHEN THEY GET OLDER WE WILL HAVE THEM CALL YOU CHASER)

DAD & JENNA WENT DOWN TO DUKE & COACH K TOLD YOUR STORY OVER & OVER AGAIN TO PLAYERS, SPORTS ANNOUNCERS & PEOPLE HE MENT AFTER THE GAME. WHEN DAD WAS TELLING ME ABOUT THE WEEKEND I WAS THINKING OF WHEN YOU WERE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE IN INTENSIVE CARE & COACH K WOULD CALL THE HOSPITAL ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY TO GET A REPORT ON HOW YOU WERE DOING. YOU HAVE LEFT AN IMPACT ON SO MANY PEOPLES LIVES, FROM WELL KNOWN PEOPLE TO MAYBE JUST A BUDDY FROM SCHOOL.
YOU REMAIN SUCH A PART OF US & THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE.

YOU ARE LOVED MORE WITH EACH PASSING DAY,
DAD, MOM, JENNA, DANTAE, DEMI & BREELI

P.S. THE MOTHER OF MULTIPLE CLUB IN CANTON HAS A MEMBER OF THE CLUB THAT HAS A 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER BATTELING A BRAIN TUMOR. AFTER EXTENSIVE TREATMENT IT HAS CONTINUED TO GROW. THE FAMILY WAS SEND TO DISNEY WORLD THROUGH WHISHES CAN HAPPEN. HER NAME IS SHELBI MARTIN & HER BIRTHDAY IS NEXT WEEK. PLEASE PRAY FOR HER & MAYBE DROP HER A NOTE ON HER WEBSITE. Dear sweet Chaser,

At first we couldn’t believe life could go on. We found out it does, but it hasn’t been easy without you. Speaking your name is easier but the void that is in our lives still remains. We love the days when it is so obvious you are still with us.

This year for the first time we will be giving a scholarship out in memory of you. It feels so good to be doing something positive to help someone else. You can thank Uncle D, Papa & Dad because they all work so hard to make the golf outing a hugh success to make the Chase Faiello Scholarship possible.

Chaser, as you know our love for you has continued to grow with each passing year. You will always be the son we are so blessed to have & the brother that can never be replaced.

With much love, Dad, Mom, Jenna,
Dantae, Demi & Breeli

DEAR SWEET CHASE,

THIS TIME OF YEAR IS ALWAYS A LITTLE HARDER ON DAD, JENNA & I. WE STILL MISS YOU IN THE WORST WAY. SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED IN FOUR SHORT YEARS. WE ALWAYS INCLUDE YOU IN OUR LIVES & WONDER WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING OR WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU WERE STILL HERE. LIFE JUST ISN'T THE SAME & NEVER WILL BE TILL WE ARE ALL TOGETHER AGAIN.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SIGNS YOU SEND US AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE NEVER FAR FROM EACH THOUGHT WE HAVE. I CAN'T WAIT TO SHARE ALL THE MEMORIES WITH DANTEA, DEMI & BREELI. I THOUGHT GOD BROKE THE MOLD AFTER HE MADE YOU BUT BREELI SEEMS TO HAVE ALOT OF YOUR TRAITS. I GUESS I WON'T GET OUT THE BOOK I BOUGHT WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE, "HOW TO RAISE A STRONG WILLED CHILD". THANK GOD YOU WERE SO STRONG WILLED AND FOUGHT SO HARD & BRAVE WHEN YOU WERE SICK. WE ARE SO PROUD GOD GAVE YOU TO US EVEN IF IT WASN'T LONG ENOUGH.

A WHILE AGO I WAS READING A DAILY DEVOTION AND IT WAS SAYING HOW GOD HAS A PURPOSE FOR EACH ONE OF US. YOUR PURPOSE WAS SERVED IN SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME BUT YOU SERVED IT WELL BECAUSE YOU HAVE EFFECTED SO MANY PEOPLE. YOU ARE STILL EFFECTING PEOPLE WITH YOUR BASKETBALL SHOOT OUT AT ST. JAMES TO HELP A FAMILY FINACIALLY WITH TUITION. AND THE GOLF OUTING TO GIVE A SCHOLORSHIP AWAY AT SANDY VALLEY. BUT MOST IMPORTANT EACH HEART YOU HAVE TOUCHED ALONG THE WAY........WE LOVE YOU CHASER!!!!

THANKS TO ALL OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND EVEN PEOPLE WE DON’T KNOW FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN US
OVER THE PAST YEARS. ALL THE PRAYERS HAVE LIFTED US UP AND KEPT US GOING. WE KEEP PUSHING ON TO RUN THIS RACE AND OUR EYES FIXED ON BEING WITH CHASE ONE DAY.

TODAY IS CHASE’S 11TH BIRTHDAY. I IMAGINE HIS BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR SHARING HIS DAY IN CELEBRATION WITH HAVING THE POPE AMONG HIM IN HEAVEN. I CAN JUST HEAR CHASE TELLING THE POPE ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE BOWLING WITH BISHOP TOBIN ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO. ST. JAMES HAD THE 2ND ANNUAL SHOOT –A-THON A DAY BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY. HIS BIRTHDAY WAS CELEBRATED BY A BALLON LAUNCH. CHASE’S BUDDIES, FAMILY, CLASSMATES AND TEACHERS ARE TRULY SOME OF THE BEST.
THE CANTON REPOSITORY DID A WONDERFUL TWO PART STORY FOR CHASE’S BIRTHDAY. IT IS BITTER SWEET. WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL CHASE IS BEING REMEMBERED BUT SAD HE ISN’T STILL WITH US. THE WRITER WAS EVER SO THOUGHTFUL AND CARING PUTTING THIS STORY TOGETHER. I REALLY THINK CHASE HAD A JOB TO DO HERE AND I THINK HE HAD AN EVEN BIGGER JOB WAITING FOR HIM IN HEAVEN. WHEN DAVE AND I ARE SWEEPING THE STREETS OF GOLD WE WILL BE PROUD OF OUR LITTLE BOY BEING A LEADER HERE ON EARTH AND IN ETERNITY.

THIS LITTLE BOY OF OURS HAS GIVEN US SO MANY BLESSINGS. HIS LOSS REMINDS US EVERYDAY HOW IMPORTANT OUR FAITH IS. HE HAS OPENED OUR EYES TO PRIORITIZE WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE. CHASE’S SPIRIT IS DEFINITLY ALIVE. WHEN WE FOUND OUT WE WERE PREGNATE WITH TRIPLETS I LAUGHED AND SAID I KNEW CHASE HAD A SENSE OF HUMOR BUT NOW I KNOW GOD DOES TOO!

GOD BLESS, DAVE, DEB AND JENNA

I CAN'T BELIEVE SCHOOL IS STARTING AGAIN WITHOUT YOU!! WE ALL MISS YOU SO VERY MUCH. THIS SUMMER WE TRIED TO RUN AWAY EVERY CHANCE WE COULD. MANY TEARS WERE SHED ON THE BEACHES WE VISITED. GRIEVING HAS TO BE ONE OF THE TOUGHEST THINGS IN LIFE WE ARE FORCED TO DO. YOU CAN ONLY STUFF IT FOR SO LONG BEFORE THE WHOLE DAM BREAKS. WE LIVE LIFE WITH A HUGH WHOLE IN OUR HEARTS TRYING TO PIECE IT ALL TOGETHER AGAIN WITHOUT YOU. I KNOW PEOPLE WONDER WHEN WE WILL EVER GET BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN...LITTLE DO THEY KNOW IT WILL NEVER BE NORMAL AGAIN. WE ARE STILL LEARNING HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU. GOD BLESS ANYONE WHO HAS TRIED TO UNDERSTAND...I AM SURE IT IS HARD NOT TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON US. I JUST WANT THEM TO STOP AND THANK GOD THEY ARE NOT GOING THRU THE SAME LOSS WE HAVE BEEN FACED WITH.

THIS SUMMER WE MADE A MEMORIAL GARDEN FOR YOU. SO MANY PEOPLE SENT US STATUES, ROCKS AND TREES THAT WE PUT IT TOGETHER IN A FLOWER BED. ALSO THIS SUMMER THE MAGNOLIA BALL ASSOCIATION DEDICATED THE FLAG POLE AT THE BASEBALL FIELD IN MEMORY OF YOU. IT GIVES US GREAT JOY WHEN PEOPLE STILL SPEAK YOUR NAME AND KEEP YOUR MEMORY ALIVE.

MAY WE ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SPIRIT IN ALL WE DO.
XOXOXOX
LOVE YOU MORE EACH PASSING DAY,
MOM, DAD AND JENNA

**Happy Birthday in Heaven ^Chase^ ** April 10th 2004

I'm writing this from heaven where I dwell with God above. Where there's no more tears or sadness, there's just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy, just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you , every morning noon and night.

That day I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and he said...." I welcome you. It's good to have you back again. You were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on."

Than God gave me a list of things He wished for me to do. And foremost on that list of mine, is to watch and care for you. And I will be beside you every day and week and year. And when you're sad, I'm standing there to wipe away the fear. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, because you're only human, it's bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry. It does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

It always God's philosophy and I'd like it for you too, that as you give unto the world, so the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow or in pain, then you can say to God at night, "My day was not in vain." And now I am contented that my life it was worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is down and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up as on your way you go. When you are walking down the street and you've got me on your mind, I'm walking in your footstep only a half a step behind.

And when you feel that gentle breeze or the wind upon your face, that's me giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace. And when it's time for you to go from that body to be free, remember your not going you're coming here to me. And I will always love you from that land way up above. We'll be in touch again soon...

P.S. God sends His love.

I have often tried to update in the past months but have found it very difficult. Time has gone by but we are still standing in the same place the day Chase left us. Many things have changed in our lives but many new lessons have been discovered. We still give thanks everyday for Chase and all the joy he brought to our lives. So many memories and stories we hold close to our hearts forever. We are so proud of Jenna's faith and strength dealing with the loss of her brother. Somedays the words of comfort she gives us is unbelievable. God and Chaser are watching over her. A very special thanks to all the wonderful people holding our hand through our walk in grief. No small jesture has gone unnoticed and words can't express our gratitude. God bless each and every one of you. Please sign the guestbook and let us know you are thinking of Chase.

A dear friend gave me this. It is so beautiful I needed to share it with everyone.

~*~*~ Death is nothing at all *~*~*
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way which you
always used.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little
jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be the household word that
it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of your mind because
I am out of your sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is past, nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be
as it was before -- only better,
infinitely happier and for ever --
We will be all one together with
Christ.

~*~*~*~* ^i^ Little Angels ^i^ *~*~*~*~
When God calls little children
to dwell with him above,
We mortals sometimes question
the wisdom of his love.
For no heartaches compare with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world
seem wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So he picks a rosebud
before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so He takes but few
To make the land of Heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult
still somehow we must try,
The saddest word mandkind knows
will always be "Goodbye".
So when a little child departs,
we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children,
Angels are hard to find.

~*~*~*~*~*~* ^i^ *~*~*~*~*~*~

Greive not for me though I am gone
For I am with you still
God grant you strength to carry on
And understand his will

A soft tear shed from time to time
Will ease your sorrowed mind
But live your life as fully
As you helped me live mine

Time will heal the hurting heart
Faith will see you through
There's still a life for you to live
With courage I leave you

Remember me with thoughts of peace
Live each day with your heart
Grieve not for me for though I'm gone
We're never far apart

~*~*~*~Written By: Lisa Faiello 12/03~*~*~*~
For: Chase Faiello
Always near and in my heart
Even though physically we are apart
We are joined in spirit, You and I
I smile at your memory, but mostly I cry.
Our bond is eternally solid, unbroken.
Although so much has been left unspoken.
All of the first's have approached so fast,
But my love and precious thoughts of you will forever last.
I hold on to these, to get me through
I have my strength and faith because of you.
Until we join in God's home one day,
For now, all I can do is pray.
~*~*~*Merry Christmas in Heaven ^^Chase^^*~*~*~

It's hard to believe it's been almost 5 months since Chase has been gone. It seems just like yesterday we were taking him to the clinic everyday & spending countless hours with him. We miss his smile, his voice & his presence more than words can express. The memories of Chase still continue to make us so sad, but they're all we've got to hold onto.
It's been so terribly tough on Deb & I, that sometimes we don't know how we're even standing. We still wake up everyday crying and go to bed every nite crying, wishing things could of been different. Wondering if there was something we could of done differently. We miss him & love him so much.
This past baseball season was especially rough on us, because we really thought Chase could of maybe played ball.
Chase's baseball team this year was called the "Magnolia Chaser's".
We can't thank Jeff Neisel enough for doing this in Chase's memory, along with everything else he's done for us.
Jenna's softball season was equally has hard. Chase used to just love to go & watch her play. He was always so proud of his big sister. It was so hard to sit there without him watching Jenna.
The picture on Chase's gravestone was one we took of him at Jenna's game last year right after he broke his ankle.
Jenna's softball team was called "Chaser's Crew" thanks to Ray & Sheila Hall who have done so much for us as well.
It's been so nice to still read all the journal entries from all of you. We continue to check the site daily & love it when there's a new entry. Please continue writing & signing the guestbook.
We can't believe that Jenna goes back to school in a few short weeks. This summer has just wizzed by like a blink of an eye. It blows our mind that Jenna will be going into the 6th grade already. The first day of school will be very hard on us, because we were told that Chase would be able to possibly go back to school this year & he was so excited about that. He sure loved his friends & loved being around them & making them laugh.
It doesn't seem to be getting any easier for Deb & I. All the 'first' of everything are really tearing us up.
We visit Chase daily, sometimes twice, at the grave site.
We continue to just try & get by, one day at a time.
Deb and I have found a counselor that really seems to be helping (at least it does for the day we see her). She lost a child of her own, so at least she has some idea of what we're trying to cope with.
We want to again, thank everyone that has still been there for us. We really couldn't of made it without you.
God Bless All Of You.

Once again Deb, Jenna & i want to thank everyone for all your support during these difficult times.
We literially live day to day and try to take little steps forward as we can.
We have decided to keep Chaser's webpage going & we'll continue updating it from time to time. We also really want to highly encourage people to sign the guestbook. We still love to read all the entries and we visit the site almost daily.
We will forever love Chase & miss him more than life itself.
Chase will always continue to touch people's lives and God has certainly gained one "amazing little angel".
Please keep Chase in your minds & in your hearts, as that little 8 yr old boy that inspired so many & showed courage and strength to so many. Always remember what a fighter he was.
The memories we all have of him will live within each of us forever.
We still can't imagine or grasp life without Chase & probably never will. It's difficult to get out of bed every morning or to function at all through out the day or even sleep at night.
I find it hard to even put into word the pain & sorrow we feel right now nor can i explain how we cry at every passing memory or thought of him.
WE LOVE YOU CHASE.

It is with a very heavy heart that I make this final entry on Chase's web page at the request of Dave, Deb, and Jenna. I thank them for allowing me to be a part of their lives, and for friendship beyond description. Janey

Chase was placed in the Lord's hands early in the morning on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. God must have needed this little Angel really badly, because neither a multitude of prayer, nor Chase's unending will to conquer this disease, could keep him here with us. I think everyone would agree that this world is a better place, and we are better people, for having known Chase. I don't think any of us could comprehend just how many people have been touched, or how many lives affected, in one way or another by Chase in his too-short time here on Earth. Through him we have been taught the meaning of courage,...strength,...faith,...and most importantly...love. How very fortunate for all of us, because it will take every one of these to get us through this most painful and heartbreaking time. So, in a sense, Chase continues to affect us all. I only wish that he could somehow give us the answers to all the questions that seem to be on the minds, and in the hearts, of everyone. I'm sure they will be revealed to us when we see him again.

Dave, Deb and Jenna wish to thank everyone for being there for them, and for sharing the journey of these past eight months. No matter how big or seemingly insignificant, each act of kindness shown, each word spoken, each smile given, each prayer offered is appreciated in ways no words could ever express. These things have been, and will continue to be, a source of comfort and support for them.

Please keep Chase's memory alive by speaking his name and never forgetting what he has meant to us all. God bless Chaser...and each one of us.

Where to begin? So much has happened since the last update. Dave and Deb have been at the hospital since Chase was admitted on Wednesday morning. The information is almost too much to comprehend, and changes frequenly, so I will try to put it into words that I hope are accurate and understandable.

Chase is currently in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Akron Children's Hospital. He recently has become very ill due to a problem that arose with his intestines/bowel area. He has had three surgeries to correct these problems since Thursday morning. A "trickle down effect" has occurred and some of his organs are not working properly...mainly his liver and kidneys. Chase was given an experimental drug that we hope and pray will start to correct his liver function. The doctors have said that it may take 3 or more days to see if the medication will take effect and begin to reverse the damage. He has been placed on a dialysis machine to help drain excess fluid from his body. This is a less agressive form of dialysis than the traditional one, and so far is doing its job in helping to pull excess fluid from Chase. To relieve Chase of having to use energy to breathe, he has been placed on a ventilator and kept heavily sedated so that he can use this energy in other ways to try to fight the infection and heal his body. The best news we have had is the fact that his body has accepted white blood cells from a donor transplant that was started on Saturday. His white blood cell counts have risen and that is what is needed to fight the infection. He will continue to receive a transplant every afternoon for 5 days. After that we are hoping that his body begins to produce healthy white blood cells on his own.

Chase is listed in critical condition and is very ill, but prayer can do powerful things and miracles can happen. Please continue to pray for Chase, as we know all of you have, because that is what he needs most right now.

Dave and Deb have been staying at the Ronald McDonald house beside the hospital and are surrounded and supported by their family and friends. This is a roller coaster ride but please know that all of your prayers and well wishes are reaching them and are very much appreciated.

THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS HAVE BEEN TOUGH ON CHASE. HE IS NOW STARTING TO FEEL BETTER. IT APPEARS WE DON'T UPDATE DURING THE HARD TIMES AND WHEN WE SEE CHASE IS GOOD AGAIN IT IS EASIER TO UPDATE. WE WENT TO THE CLINIC FOUR TIMES LAST WEEK. TUESDAY STARTED TREATMENT. HE RECIEVED A SPINAL, TWO DIFFERENT CHEMOS IN HIS PORT AND A SHOT. THE NEXT 3 DAYS WE HAD TO GO BACK FOR SHOTS EACH DAY. THIS WEEK WE ALSO HAVE 4 DAYS OF SHOTS. CHASE HAD SOME PRETTY TOUGH TIMES WITH BEING NAUSEATED AND TIRED. HE IS BACK TO THE GUITAR AGAIN AND TOOK ANOTHER LESSON THE FIRST DAY HE WAS FEELING BETTER. DAVE AND CHASE ORDERED THE TYSON FIGHT THE OTHER NIGHT. CHASE CALLED HIS GRANDPA OVER TO WATCH IT. HE NO LONGER CAME IN AND SAT DOWN AND IT WAS OVER. (49 SECOND FIGHT) WE HAD A GOOD LAUGH!!
JENNA IS DOING WELL. SHE HAS HER DAYS DEALING WITH CHASE BEING SICK,BUT ALL IN ALL SHE IS ONE TOUGH COOKIE. SHE HAS STARTED SOFTBALL PITCHING LESSONS AND IS HAVING FUN.
MY SISTER PAM WROTE A LETTER TO MICHAEL JORDANS SPECIAL REQUEST OFFICE. SHE ASKED IF CHASE COULD MEET HIM IN CLEVELAND AFTER THE WIZARDS/CAVS GAME. WE ARE KEEPING OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT HE COULD TAKE A MOMENT AFTER THE GAME WITH CHASE. WE AREN'T TELLING CHASE SO HE WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED IF IT DOESN'T WORK OUT.
CHASE WILL BE STARTING ON A HARRY POTTER PUZZLE (550 PEICES) TOMORROW. I'LL LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES HIM. HE IS ALSO GETTING READY TO TAKE SOME PROFICENCY TEST THIS WEEK. HE STILL ENJOYS SCHOOL WORK!!
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING CHASE. YOUR KINDNESS AND ENCOURAGEMENT HAS HELPED CHASE TO KEEP THE FAITH AND HOPE AS HE DEALS WITH THIS DAY TO DAY. GOD BLESS!

CHASE HAS HAD A TIME WITH THE STEROIDS!!! HE WAS UNABLE TO WALK FOR 3-4 DAYS. HE HAD SEVERE MUSCLE PAIN AND CRAMPING. WE WERE GIVING HIM MORPHENE OR TYLENOL WITH CODENE EVERY 4 HOURS. HE IS MUCH BETTER NOW WITH THE MUSCLE PAIN. CHASE WENT TUESDAY MORNING FOR A CT SCAN TO CHECK HIS FUNGAL INFECTION. IF ALL IS CLEAR HE CAN BE TAKEN OFF HIS MEDS FOR THE FUNGAL. WE ARE STILL WAITING ON RESULTS. HE WAS ALSO TO START HIS NEXT PHASE (CONSOLIDATION) BUT HIS ANC COUNT WAS AT 400. IT NEEDS TO BE AT 1,000 OR ABOVE TO START. THIS IS VERY TYPICAL FOR HIS COUNTS TO BE LOW AT THIS TIME. HE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING NOSE BLEEDS LATELY. HIS DOC THINKS IT MAY BE THE BIG INDUSTRIAL FANS WE HAVE HAD IN OUR BASEMENT FOR 2 WEEKS BLOWING TO DRY OUT THE WATER BREAK WE HAD. LATE ONE NIGHT I THOUGHT THE FURNACE SOUNDED STRANGE, SO I WENT DOWNSTAIRS AND WATER WAS COMING IN. WE HAD ABOUT 1 INCH OF WATER STANDING. EVERYTHING WILL BE COVERED UNDER INSURANCE, BUT IT IS THE HASSLE WE COULD DO WITHOUT. CHASE FINISHED HIS 1,000 PIECE PUZZLE. IT WAS BITTER SWEET, WE WE'RE HAVING FUN PUTTING IT TOGETHER. HE IS NOW FOCUSED ON THE GUITAR!! COACH K AND COACH HILLIER (BASEBALL) HAVE BEEN KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH CHASE. THAT ALWAYS SEEMS TO BRIGHTEN HIS DAY. DAVE SURPRISED CHASE THE OTHER DAY AND PURCHASED TICKETS TO SEE MICHAEL JORDAN (WIZARDS) ON APRIL 8TH WHEN THEY PLAY THE CAV'S AT THE GUND. CHASE WAS SO HAPPY HE WAS CRYING. HE WILL TURN 9 ON APRIL 10TH!!! HE WILL BE IN INTER MAINTANCE BY THEN AND FEELING BETTER. HIS COUNTS WILL STAY STEADY AND BE HIGH ENOUGH TO GO AROUND CROWDS. THANKS FOR ALL OF CHICAGO'S SUPPORT FOR CHASE. A CATHOLIC SCHOOL WAS GIVEN CHASE'S WEB ADDRESS AND STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SIGNING THE GUESTBOOK. WE FIND IT GIVES CHASE STRENGTH TO HAVE ALL THE SUPPORT HE HAS. THANKS TO ONE AND ALL!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Sunday, February 2, 2003 10:13 PM CST

CHASE MADE IT THROUGH ALL SIX SHOTS WITH FLYING COLORS. HE IS NOW BACK ON THOSE YUCKY STEROIDS FOR 7 DAYS.(3 MORE DAYS LEFT,YEA!)HIS CHEMO HAS CAUGHT UP WITH HIM AND HE IS NOT AS ACTIVE AS BEFORE. HIS ANC COUNT IS LOW (LAST THURSDAY AROUND 900) AND HE WAS MAD!!! HE CAN'T BE EXPOSED TO SICK PEOPLE OR CROWDS. NO SCHOOL OR BASKETBALL ON THE WEEKENDS. HE STILL GETS TUTORED 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK. HE HAS BEEN PUTTING A 1,000 PIECE PUZZLE TOGETHER SINCE LAST THURSDAY NIGHT. FROM MORNING TILL NIGHT WE WORK ON IT. HIS APPETITE IS NOT SO GOOD AGAIN. MY COUSIN CAME TO THE HOUSE TODAY AND GAVE HIM HIS FIRST GUITAR LESSON. I HOPE LEARNING THE GUITAR WILL HELP OCCUPY SOME OF HIS TIME. HE CAN NOW PLAY "HOT CROSS BUNS" HE IS ON A MISSON TO READ ALL HIS "CAPTIAN UNDERPANTS" BOOKS AGAIN. ALL AND ALL HE IS STILL A TROOPER AND DOES WHAT HE HAS TO WITH NO COMPLAINTS. UNCLE D STOPPED BY TODAY AND GAVE HIM DUSTIN FOX'S SWEAT BANDS HE WORE IN THE OSU CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. THAT WAS A HUGE HIGHLIGHT FOR HIM.TODAY CHASE E-MAILED COACH K. AND GAVE HIM A PEP TALK. CHASE TOLD HIM THEY WILL BE #1 AGAIN. CHASE AND JENNA BOTH RECIEVED ALL A'S ON THEIR REPORT CARDS. WE WERE ESPECIALLY PROUD OF JENNA. IT WAS TOUGH ON HER GOING TO SCHOOL KNOWING SOME OF THE TOUGH DAYS CHASE WAS HAVING, AT HOME AND AT THE HOSPITAL. AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU GIVE CHASE AND OUR FAMILY. CHASE TRULY LOVES TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE!!! TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS.

We wanted to wait and update till we got over this bump in the road. The chemo shot that replaced the one he is allergic to can no longer be had. It is made in the United Kingdom and they have none to supply to the States and can't give a back order date at this time. That means we do without it, which was very upsetting. All the studies given for Chases protocal has used the drug. There are no studies given for the small percent that can't take the drug. We worry about recovery or relapse. We were given one other option. We can try the third and last shot that is like the shot Chase is allergic to. The chances of having a reaction to this is very high, and to boot the reaction would be more severe than the last reaction. Also on the down side 6 shots are given to the 1 shot he has an allergic reaction to. Our doc seemed to think we should give it a try. That was Thursday of last week. We ask all kinds of questions, even the point blank one, "If this was your child what would you do?" Our doc was not very convincing of anything! This was such a gray area and we were caught in the middle. There are 5 onocologist at Childrens so they all discussed it and 4 out of 5 said try it. They would be prepared at the first sign of a rash or any breathing problems he could have. We went on Monday still unsure if we wanted the shot given. We had more questions to have answered. Our doc was on the hospital floor so another onocologist would administer the shot. We ask him all of our questions to find out that he was the one to say no to the shot. We kept trying to put it in Gods hands and it seemed to keep landing back in our laps. This doc paged our doc and he came in and talked with us again. We finally decided to have the shot!!! Chase was crying from nerves. Mom was crying because that's what I do. We sat there for nine hours and Chase had no reaction. Wednesday we went up again
and had the shot. So far so good!!! But he didn't react to the shot he is allergic to until the third time he recieved it. Other than that...Chase is on these nausty, I mean nausty steroids. He's like a women in menapause. Thank god today is his last day for the first 7 days. He will be off 7 days and then back on 7 days. Last night we had to call the doc about 6:30 at night. Chase had severe lower back pain. He could not sit or lay. He kept pacing and crying. A tylenol with codine didn't even help him. The doc said he might need moraphine on hand when that happens. His thinks the pain is from those nausty steroids. Chase will go to the clinic today at 1:00 and then three days next week if all goes well. Keep Chase in your prayers for the next 56 days. This phase is tough. But like Chases doc says, "He is a case study by himself." Hopefully he will prove us all wrong.

Happy New Year to everyone. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I know we sure did. Chase was feeling really good & Jenna celebrated her 11th birthday Christmas eve.
It was so nice spending all the time we did, with family & friends. With Chase feeling as well as he was, it made it especially nice.
We spent New Year's Eve at home, with Jeff & Janey Neisel and the boys. It was a blast. We had a ping-pong tournament & Chase won. Then at midnite, all the kids went outside and banged pots & pans. I wonder if that's why none of our neighbors have talked to us for a week now?
We would like to thank everyone for the Christmas cards & all the special gifts. But mostly, for all your prayers.
Deb & i want to thank Stevie (i'm sorry...Steve) Lancaster, who works for MicroCenter, down in Columbus (home of the national champion Buckeyes) for the awesome gift he gave Chase.
On Thanksgiving nite, Steve comes over with a laptop computer & says that him & his company would like for Chase to have this for Christmas. Needless to say, it was Chase's favorite gift Christmas morning. It has a built in DVD player & he can play other games on it as well. They even threw in several games with it.
Steve, we can't thank you enough. I would also like to mention that Steve & his wife were in Arizona for the BIG OSU game. Man, i bet that was exciting.
We also want to send a very special thanks to Bob & Colleen Logan for the very generous gift they gave us to help with our travel expenses back & forth from the hospital & clinic.
I can't even begin to tell you both how much we appreciated that.
Chase has been feeling really good lately. We even went sled riding last week for about 3 hrs. Chase was down there with about 10 of his buddies. We had so much fun.
Rob Sickafoose was down there with his 2 boys & he videoed the whole thing. Chase can't wait to see that.
One day last week, Chase had Brendon Betz over to play & i pulled them both on the sled with the 4 wheeler for hrs at a time. I didn't think they'd ever want to stop. It was so nice to see Chase being able to do this kind of stuff again.
Chase made it thru his 3rd phase now & we're getting ready to start back on a revised version of phase 1 again.
Starting thursday, Jan. 16th, we'll have to have him back up to the clinic every other day for about 2 months. He'll be getting a new type of chemo along with those nasty shots again. Unfortunately, he has to go back on the steriods again too. It's not going to be easy for him, but i know he'll make it thru it. The dr's say that his counts will most likely start dropping off again sometime around the last week of this month. So, we're just enjoying everyday that we can now.
Today, on the way home from the clinic, Chase & i stopped in at Faircrest Jr High, where Derek (uncle D) is a 7th grade science teacher & we sat in on one of his classes. Chase just thought that was the bomb, seeing his uncle D teaching like that. Derek was (is) a natural. He came across like he's been teaching for years. I was so proud of him. You can tell the kids really like him too. Chase even recited all the presidents for the class. They couldn't believe that he new all of them like that.
Also, in the mail today, Chase recieved an awesome Buckeyes ball cap from the Knox's. It is so cool. And as you probably already knew from all their journal entry's, the Knox's are HUGE Buckeye fans too. Thanks Steve & Beth.
HOW ABOUT THOSE BUCKEYES??? Was that an awesome game or what? Chase & all of us stayed up & watched every play from beginning to end. Ask Dave Faiello Sr about his summersalt after the game. That was pretty funny.
We still want to make it to a Michigan State game to see all the guys that Chase met last summer down at the Andreas farm. We're going to try & get to one before the end of the month or we might not be able to. It'll all just depend on how Chase is feeling.
Chase still wants to make another trip (or 2 or 3 or 4) to Durham, NC to see his Duke Blue Devils play again. Coach K sent Chase a Christmas card & a real nice letter with it, telling him he can't wait to see him again & to let him know as soon as he's ready to come down for another game.
Last weekend, one of coach K's assistants called, just to see how Chase was doing & to see what all santa brought him.
Jenna has been busy playing basketball on Saturday mornings & Chase starts this Saturday helping coach the younger kids, grades K thru 2. He's pretty excited about that.
Bob Ream, who runs the program at the Canton South YMCA, called & asked Chase to help him out this year.
Well, thanks again to EVERYONE for all you've done for us.
It is just overwhelming all the support we continue to get from all of you. Thanks for all your prayers.
May God Bless Each And Every One Of You.

Happy Holidays to everyone. We apologize for the 2 week delay in updating Chase's journal. It's been very busy for us these past few weeks, as i'm sure it has been for everyone.
Jenna & Chase both are so excited for the big day to arrive.
Jenna is also excited about her birthday on Christmas Eve, she'll be 11. WOW...that's hard to believe. She already had her birthday sleepover, back on Dec. 6th, she had 6 friends stay over nite & last years Hall Of Fame queen came over & spent 3 hrs doing all their hair, nails & make-up. It was so cute. She had a blast.
Chase had Cody Offenberger spend the nite, the same evening & i took the two of the them to see Santa Claus 2, to get them out of the house. If it were up to Chase, i think he would of chose to stay home with all the girls. He did mention to me on the way to Canton, that he thought that 'queen girl' was HOT !!
The next nite, Sat. Dec. 7th, Sheila Hall coordinated a benefit dance for all 7th & 8th graders (Youth Ministry at St. James) and all the proceeds went to Chase. They had a great turn-out. The dance was held at the St James Hall. Thanks Sheila.
On Fri. Dec 13th, Chase was able to attend the SVHS boys varsity basketball game. He was so excited and couldn't wait to go & watch Kyle play. They won & Kyle played awesome.
Saturday, Dec. 14th, all 3 of the Neisel boys spent the nite. Chase was in heaven. Him & Jenna had so much fun with them. They played games & watched movies all nite. By about 10-11pm, Chase was wooped & fell asleep on the couch. But they were all up bright & early Sunday morning, ready to go at it again.
Monday, Dec. 16th, Chase went swimming with Brendon Betz, down at the Dover Comfort Inn. He couldn't believe that he was FINALLY allowed to go swimming. We checked with his doctor that morning & he said it should be fine since his counts were so good at the time. He swam like a fish for hours. It is great to have connections. Chase and his friend were the only two in the pool the entire night.
On Thur. Dec. 19th, St James School had their annual Christmas Program & they had called earlier in the week asking if there was anyway Chase could be apart of it. He was feeling pretty good, so we took him & he got to ride down the center aisle, in the sleigh, with Santa. In the middle of the program, they announced that Chase was there & thanked him for coming. Two of the students walked down & handed him some roses & a big Christmas card signed by the students. Everyone in the church, started clapping for Chase. It was very emotional for Deb & I. Chase just sat there with this huge smile on his face. He was so happy & excited about the whole thing.
Earlier that day, we stopped in at the school & Chase was able to visit with all his friends & give all his teachers their gifts. This was the first time he had been to the school & the first time alot of these kids had seen him since he was diagnosed. He was alittle nervous going in, but once we got there he was alright. It was so cute.
Chase's tutoring is continuing to go well. He loves his teacher, Tammy Reed. She does such an excellent job with him. Deb & I both feel he is really staying up (or above) with all his school work. He loves to read & loves to do all his homework.
Chase still knows all 43 presidents & can recite them forward or backwards. He then wanted to learn all 50 states & there capitals. So we started on that & he's up to about 35-40 of them now.
Jenna's school has been going great too & she is very excited that Christmas break is here. She's been quite busy with basketball lately & having alot of fun with that.
We still have been taking Chase up to the clinic about 3 times a week for treatments & sometimes just for blood counts. He's been doing pretty good overall. He's in this 3rd phase now until mid January. This past month or so, we've had to make several trips to the E.R. with Chase spiking a fever of 101 or higher. But he always seems to beat it, & we're back home the same nite. He's such a fighter, he never quits. He tells us on the way up, that he WON"T be spending the nite.
Chase personally picked out presents for all his favorite nurses & doctors & wrapped them all himself. We delivered them this week, along with cookie trays, for the ones he didn't get a gift for. He wanted to make sure no-one got left out. Pretty thoughtful of an 8 yr old.
He's still getting his shots every 10 days & they're going pretty good so far. He's handling them alot better now.
Chase & Jenna are also very excited this holiday season because Aunt Pami is in from Washington with her 8 month old little girl Nina. Jenna is in heaven with little babies. This is the first time they've seen her. And also, GG is up from Florida. (that is their great-grandma Betty) Linda's mother. She's the coolest great grandmother i've ever known.
Chase has been steadily gaining weight back. Little by little. He's put on about 10 lbs in the past few weeks. He's still taking pills to increase his appetite. And they sure are working, so we're going to keep him on them for another month or so. He had lost about 30 lbs at one point.
So it's nice to see alittle meat going on those bones of his.
After Chase was dignosed this past summer, he had the oppurtunity of meeting 5 of the Michigan State basketball players. We are going to try to make it to one of there games during the Christmas break. He is pretty excited about that too.
I believe also we're going to try & make another Duke trip after the first of the year, depending on how he's doing.

Our family wants to wish all of you a joyous holiday season and a very happy new year. Thanks for giving us the greatest gift of all with your love & prayers & support.
God Bless You All.

CHASE HAD A BAD SPELL LAST SUNDAY. HE WOKE UP WITH HOPES OF GOING TO CHURCH FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE HE WAS DIAGNOSED. HE STARTED SPIKING A FEVER AND FELT PRETTY YUCKY. DAVE AND JENNA WERE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. I CALLED THE CLINIC AND THEY NEEDED TO GET HIM ON ANTIBIOTICS ASAP. SINCE HE HAS AN INTERNAL PORT, WHICH IS A FORIEGN OBJECT TO HIS BODY, INFECTION CAN SETTLE AND HIDE THERE. DAVE CAME HOME AND RAN HIM UP TO AKRON CHILDRENS ER. HE WAS PUT ON AN IV AND SCANS WERE RAN. THEY CAME HOME ABOUT 11:30 THAT NIGHT. THE NEXT 2 DAYS HE HAD NO FEVER BUT REALLY TIRED. HE WOKE UP WEDNESDAY AND FELT GREAT. HE WENT TO THE CLINIC AND HIS HEMOGLOBIN HAS REBOUNDED ON HIS OWN. HE IS NOW ON A MISSION TO GAIN WEIGHT. CHASE ATE MORE YESTERDAY THEN HE HAD IN A WEEK. HE SAID HE WANTS TO GAIN 200 LBS AND BE ON THE MONTEL SHOW.(WAY TOO MUCH T.V.)

KEEPING THE COLDS AND FLU AWAY IS THE BIGGEST BATTLE. JENNA AND I WENT AND GOT OUR FLU SHOTS. CHASE HAD GOTTEN ONE A WEEK AGO AND DAVE IS NEXT. IT IS SUCH A FINE LINE WHEN HE IS FEELING GOOD TO LET HIM GO OUT. GETTING OUT AND FEELING SOMEWHAT NORMAL DOES WONDERS FOR HIM.(ONLY WHEN HIS COUNTS ARE UP)CHASE IS ALL READY FOR CHRISTMAS. HE HAD TO SELECT AND BUY EACH GIFT HIMSELF THIS YEAR. WITH HIS LIST IN HAND GOING THRU THE STORE, YELLING AT ME EVERYTIME I WOULD STOP AND LOOK AT SOMETHING TOOK QUITE SOME TIME. AFTER HE WOULD FIND A GIFT WE THEN HAD TO FIND A FLAT SURFACE FOR HIM TO HIGHLIGHT THE NAME OFF THE LIST. THEN HE CAME HOME AND WRAPPED ALL HIS GIFTS.(WHEN HE STARTS SOMETHING IT MUST BE DONE NOW OR YESTERDAY WOULD BE EVEN BETTER.)

THANKS FOR BEING A BIG SUPPORT FOR CHASE. I AM TRYING TO GET PHOTOS OF CHASE ON WEB FROM DUKE GAME. THEY ARE PICTURES AND I DON'T HAVE A SCANNER. KEEP CHECKING WE WILL GET THEM!! GOD BLESS..LOVE TO ALL

WE MADE IT TO THE DUKE GAME(S) !!!
We got there friday afternoon & met up with the Head baseball coach Bill Hillier, the ass. coach Eric Filipek, ass. coach Bill Hillier, Jr and the entire baseball team. They all made such a big deal about Chase, it was great. One by one they all came up to Chase and introduced themselves and said what position they played. We spent about an hour out on the field with them & they even pitched some balls to Chase & he got to hit some. Chase was so excited. They all started cheering everytime he hit the ball, even if it was just a foulball. They all made him feel so good. Chase even swung & missed the ball one time & they all still cheered & told him what a good swing it was. Then we went into Coach Hillier's office & got to spend about another hour with him just talking. He asked Chase if he's still interested in being batboy next season, that they were all hoping he would. He then gave Chase a bat that the whole team signed. What a great bunch of guys they all are. Coach Hillier gave us 2 tickets for the Duke vs. North Carolina football game that was Saturday. Chase & i went and the seats were about 10 rows up mid-field. It was a great game, but we only made it until about halftime. Chase was getting pretty tired.
We went back to the hotel & Chase crashed for about 2 hrs before the big basketball game. And i got to watch the 2nd half of the Buckeyes game. GO BUCKS !!!
We got to Cameron Stadium about 5:30, the game didn't start until 7pm. We were to pick-up our tickets at will call, according to coach K. There was a note attached to our tickets saying to stay in out seats following the game, that someone will be coming to get us and take us in the locker room. Before the game even started, all these people kept coming up to Chase & intoducing themselves and welcoming him to Duke. They were all part of coach K's staff. Our seats were 4 rows back, directly behind coach K & the players. We could hear everything that was said on the bench & also everything coach K would say during timeouts. What an awesome game it was.
After the game, one of the guys came & got Chase and i and took us into the lockerroom. Chase was excited but i was so nervous i could hardly walk. As soon as we walked in, all the players come right up to Chase & start calling him by name & giving him high fives & talking to him like they've known him all their lives. One by one, i take a picture of every player with Chase & everyone of them gave Chase an autograph. We spent about a 1/2 hour with them & then they all left, except for Chris Duhon, who was getting interviewed by ESPN & we were standing right there beside him while they talked with him. Then, we're standing in the lockeroom, with this one guy & in walks coach K. The 1st thing he says to us is "there's my man Chase". The look on Chase's face was worth a million dollars. He spent the next hour with just Chase & i talking about everything. I took picture after picture. What an incredible person he is. He then told us that he has someone that also would like to meet us, so we followed him down the hallway to his office & there sits his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law & his grandson. His wife gets up & comes right over & gives Chase a big hug & tells him what an honor it is to finally meet him and that she's heard so much about him from her husband. Is that amazing or what ??? Coach K gives Chase a poster of the team & writes on it, "Chase, thanks for being my friend, yours truly, Coach K". And then he hands him a game program & signs it as well & writes "Chase, you are one terrific boy, stay positive, coach K". Then he hands him a Duke Blue Devils Nike basketball ballcap & he signed the top of it "Mike Krzyzewski". It all was just truly overwhelming for both of us. Mrs K asked me if she could take a picture of Chase, coach K & myself. Of course i said yes. And then she asked me if i'd like to take one with there whole family with Chase, so i took that one as well.
Coach K was telling Chase how much he enjoys reading all Chase's emails he sends him & to please keep them coming. He said he'll write back to everyone of them.
He even told Chase that he loves the pictures of his 'Duke Room' on the webpage. He said he logs on every chance he gets to see how he is doing.
We took a taxi (first time ever in a taxi for Chase) to the game, but one of coach K's ass. ended up taking us back to our hotel around 11pm.
We then got up sunday morning & drove 9 hrs home.
WHAT A WEEKEND CHASER AND OUR WHOLE FAMILY HAD !!!!

Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 06:10 PM (CST)

AS OF THIS MOMENT WE ARE DUKE BOUND!!!! CHASE RETURNED TO THE CLINIC TODAY AND RECEIVED HIS COMPARABLE CHEMO SHOT AND CAME THRU WITH FLYING COLORS. HIS APPETITE IS GONE AGAIN DUE TO YESTERDAYS TREATMENT. HOPEFULLY TOMORROW THAT WILL TURN AROUND.

WE HAVE 4 TICKETS WAITING FOR US AT THE BASKETBALL GAME. CHASE AND HIS FAMILY HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY INVITED DOWN TO LOCKER ROOM AFTER THE GAME. BEFORE THE GAME WE WILL MEET THE BASEBALL TEAM AND GO TO THE FOOTBALL GAME.

LAST NIGHT JENNA AND CHASE HAD THEIR BAGS PACKED. CHASES DOCTOR TOLD HIM HE IS ALLOWED TO GO SWIMMING AT THE HOTEL. (WHICH MAKES MOM A NERVOUS WRECK!) BUT AFTER 100 QUESTIONS I THINK I'LL BE O.K. CHASE IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

TUNE IN SATURDAY EVENING ON ESPN AND LOOK FOR JENNA AND CHASE. COACH K'S ASSISTANT SAID HE MAY NOT BE DIRECTLY BEHIND THE COACH BUT VERY NEAR. (BIG GAME FOR THE COACH..NAVY IS WHERE HE GRADUATED AND HAS LOTS OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS COMING TO THIS GAME.)

GO DUKE......THANKS FOR THE EXTRA DUKE PRAYERS!!!!

Sunday, November 17, 2002 at 08:34 PM (CST)

WELL LETS SEE......LAST TUESDAY WE WENT TO THE CLINIC AND CHASE'S COUNTS WERE TOO LOW TO START CHEMO. WE WAITED TILL THURSDAY AND TOOK HIM BACK UP AND HIS COUNTS STILL WERE NOT TO THE POINT WHERE THEY COULD START. TUESDAY NOVEMBER 19TH WE WILL TRY AGAIN. AFTER THIS WEEKEND I AM VERY CONFIDENT HE WILL BE READY TO GO. HE IS GETTING BORED AND STARTING TO GAIN HIS APPETITE BACK.

CHASE'S DOCTOR IS STILL FORCASTING THAT HIS DUKE TRIP SHOULD BE O.K. BUT HE ALSO SAID YOU NEVER KNOW WITH CHASE HE IS VERY UNPREDICTABLE.

SINCE WE ARE SOME WHAT ON HOLD TILL TUESDAY, WE WILL KEEP THIS SHORT AND WRITE AGAIN AFTER TUESDAY.

KEEP CHASE IN YOUR PRAYERS. IF IT DOESN'T PAN OUT THAT HE CAN GO ...THE ANSWER MUST BE NO!!! GOD BLESS TO ALL

Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 10:22 AM (CST)

DIDN'T MEAN TO KEEP EVERYONE HANGING. CHASE HAD A CLINIC APPT. TUESDAY FOR BLOOD COUNTS. HIS HEMOGLOBIN WAS LOW SO WE STUCK AROUND ALL DAY TO GET BLOOD.(FIRST THEY HAVE TO MATCH BLOOD THEN GO RETRIEVE IT. USALLY IT COMES FROM AKRON GENERAL. THEN TAKES SEVERAL HOURS FOR TRANSFUSSION.)ON THE WAY HOME HE GOT SICK. AT HOME HE SPENT ALOT OF TIME IN THE BATHROOM. WHEN HE GOT UP HE HAD MAJOR PAIN IN HIS HIP. HE COULD NOT GET ANY RELIEF AND COULD NOT SIT DOWN. WE TOOK HIS TEMP. AND IT WAS 101.1 HE HAS TO GO BACK UP ANYTIME IT'S OVER 101. WE CALLED THE DOC AND HE SAID COME BACK UP. IN THE MEAN TIME WE GAVE HIM A TYLENOL TO HELP WITH PAIN IN HIS HIP. ( WHICH NOW WE FEEL IT WAS A MUSCLE SPASM FROM GETTING SICK) BY THE TIME WE REACHED AKRON NO PAIN IN THE HIP AND NO FEVER. CHASE WANTED TO COME BACK HOME BUT WE TOLD HIM SOMETHING MADE HIM SPIKE A FEVER SO WE CONTINUED TO CHECK INTO ER. THEY ADMITTED HIM TO SEE IF HIS FEVER WOULD COME BACK. HE STAYED FOR 2 NIGHTS AND NEVER SPIKED A FEVER AGAIN. HE IS STILL SLUGGISH AND HIS COUNTS ARE LOW BUT ON THE RISE.

NOV 12TH AND 13TH ARE BIG DAYS FOR CHASE. DEPENDING ON COUNTS HE WILL START WHAT IS CALLED INTRA-MAINTENANCE ON TUES. HE WILL BE RECIEVING A NEW CHEMO. THIS CHEMO WILL NOT DROP HIS COUNTS AND HE CAN BE OUT AND ABOUT. BUT THE NEW CHEMO CAN MAKE HIM REALLY NAUSEATED. DOC SAID SOME KIDS AREN'T EFFECTED AT ALL AND SOME KIDS FEEL REALLY CRAPPY. (CROSS YOUR FINGERS CHASE WILL BE THE LUCKY ONE.)THEN WED, THE 13TH CHASE WILL GO BACK UP AND RECIEVE HIS SHOT TO REPLACE THE ONE THAT HE HAD THE ALLERGIC REACTION TO. DOC THINKS HE MIGHT RESPOND THE SAME TO THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT STILL HAS ASPARAGINASE IN IT WHICH CAUSED THE ALLERGIC REACTION. THIS INTRA-MAINTENANCE PERIOD IS SUPPOSE TO BE A BREAK FOR CHASE. HE WILL REPEAT THIS AGAIN SO WE ARE HOPING HE CAN TRULEY HAVE A BREAK WHEN HE GOES THRU THIS PHASE.

IF HE DOES WELL ON NOV 12TH AND 13TH. DUKE CALLED AND IS PLANNING ON CHASE FOR NOV. 23RD. THEY ARE ACCOMMODATING OUR STAY FOR 2 NIGHTS. CHASE WILL HAVE A FULL DAY . FIRST HE WILL GO TO FOOTBALL GAME.( HE MAY BE ON THE FIELD WITH THE TEAM) THEN THE BASEBALL COACH SAID HE WILL PULL HIS TEAM TOGETHER TO MEET CHASE. AND FINALLY WHAT CHASE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR THE BASKETBALL GAME IN THE EVENING.

SAY AN EXTRA PRAYER FOR CHASE THIS WEEK THAT ALL GOES WELL. TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS......

Saturday, November 09, 2002 at 10:32 PM (CST)

Chase is home from the hospital & actually doing pretty good. He had a really good day today. His counts are still very low, so we have to be careful.
We're scheduled to start the 3rd phase this tuesday the 12th. It'll be a big day for him because he starts all new medicine and chemo. He's been taking his pills really good also. He's still not eating though & seems to be getting skinnier by the day.
He remains in good spirits & still loves to be the little practical joker. God only knows where he gets that from.
Depending on how his new chemo goes, we're going to try & go to the Duke vs. Army basketball game on November 23rd.
Coach Hillier, the Duke baseball coach called & wants to meet up with us once we get there. He also said that Duke has a home football game that sameday & wanted to know if we'd be interested in going to that as well. He said Chase could probably go down on the sidelines with the players & go in the lockerroom after the game. And then the basketball game would be that nite at 7:30. You'll have to look for him on TV right behind coach K.
So, all in 1 day, Chase could meet the baseball, football & basketball teams from Duke. He was pretty excited about that. We're just hoping he is alright to go, but we'll just have to wait & see.
Deb & i again want to thank everyone for all you've done & all your support. All the emails & cards & journal entries have been so uplifting. Thank you so much.
God Bless All Of You.

Wednesday, November 06, 2002 at 05:51 PM (CST)

I just wanted to let everyone know that Chase is back in the hospital as of yesterday. I'll give more details later.
He had another re-action Tuesday to a transfusion & spiked a fever of 101.1

Friday, November 01, 2002 at 09:12 PM (CST)

Chase finally made it thru his 2nd phase. He finished up tuesday the 29th. He gets a 2 week break now from any treatments, before they start back up on his 3rd phase. This phase will be broken up into 4 periods, each one lasting about 8 weeks. If Deb & i have figured this right, he should be feeling alright during the holidays. We're hoping.
Chase has had a really rough time these past few weeks. He's still getting sick everyday & is not eating at all. We're hoping & praying this will only last another week or so. As of this morning, he has lost 5 lbs in the past week.
He spends the majority of the day sleeping or resting, because he just doesn't have any energy to do anything.
He's been complaining quiet abit lately about his stomach hurting or cramping up. We can't determine what it's from though. They did an xray & a ct scan and everything came back good. Thank goodness. The dr's now think that he might of picked up a bug somewhere along the way & it's just hitting him like a ton of bricks, because his counts are so low & he has no immune system to fight it off.
As of this morning, all his counts are still really low. We continue to be as careful as we can with where we take him & who he's around.
Because he sleeps so much during the day, he's been having trouble sleeping at nite. He'll fall asleep but he wakes up all the time thru-out the nite with stomach cramps. He just can't sleep peacefully. Deb & i still take turns sleeping in his room with him. So we're at least getting some rest every other nite.
We'll still have to take him up to the clinic 2 or 3 times a week, just to check his counts.
Chase wanted so bad to go trick or treating thursday nite the 31st, so we told him that we'd at least take him up our street. We got him & Jenna all dressed up and ready to go.
We walk out the door & before we get to the 1st house, Chase gets sick & starts crying (along with mom & dad) and wants to go home. Jenna ended up taking his bag & getting a bunch of candy for him. There was also some very thoughtful friends that dropped off some candy for him as well, just in case he wasn't able to go. Back at the house, he tried handing out candy to the kids, but wasn't able to even do that. He ended up wanting (insisting) to ride in the car, with Deb & Jenna & the Halls. That had to be hard on him to just sit there in the car, while they all went from house to house. He came home & fell asleep within about 20 minutes. We think it just wore him out. That's the most he's done in a while.

All the journal entry's have just been incredible. We all sit around every nite & read them. THEY'RE GREAT !!!
Did you notice the one guy from "England" that wrote to Chase? Chase thought that was pretty cool.

Sports Update:
We weren't able to take Chase to the Duke game, back on Oct 26th, so we're going to try for the Nov 23rd game against Army. We're going to try & make a 2 or 3 day trip out of it depending on how Chase is feeling.
This morning, head baseball coach, Bill Hillier, from Duke, called to see how Chase was doing. Chase was pretty excited to hear from him again.
Tim Brograkos & Jason Andreas (from Sugarcreek), along with 3 other starters, all play for Michigan State basketball and have met Chase. They've called him & asked him to come to a game this year as soon as he's able. So he is very excited about that too.
Marshall University, in W. Virginia, led by asst. basketball coach, Jeff Boals (SV graduate) and head coach Greg White, sent Chase a game jersey signed by the whole team, along with a real nice letter from Jeff.
Sandy Valley Football team, led by coach Morris, has been great to Chase. He let Chase on the sidelines during the one Game Chase was able to go to. He let him in the locker-room before & after the game. The entire team came to Chase's benefit spaghetti dinner & gave him a football signed by the whole team and they're all coming to the breakfast for Chase tomorrow morning.
Dover High School, led by head basketball coach, Bob Von Kaenel, sent Chase an autographed basketball by the whole team, an autographed team poster & nice letter from the coach. They also sent a signed little Dover basketball, a Dover watch & a basketball gumball machine.
Perry High School, led by head baseball coach, Frank Gamble, sent a real nice letter, along with a big 'P' varsity letterman's patch. The coach told Chase that he heard he was a pretty awesome baseball player already & wants to meet Chase & said if things didn't work out at Sandy Valley, maybe he would consider moving to Perry. The look on Chase's face when we read him this letter was priceless.
Jackson High School, led by head basketball coach, Larry Taylor, sent Chase an autographed practice jersey & on it he wrote " Chase, i hope to see you in this practice jersey someday. Coach Taylor". He also sent an autographed pair of size 13 Nike Air, brand new tennis shoes. It's the same shoes they wear for their games. Chase went absolutely crazy when he seen this. Coach Taylor also sent him a very nice letter.

Deb & i can't thank all of you enough for everything you're doing for Chase and our family. It is helping him deal with all this in such a positive way. Chase's attitude remains strong & he continues to inspire us all. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends & family.
God Bless Each And Everyone Of You.

Again, we're sorry for taking so long to update the journal, but it's been pretty hectic for us these past few weeks. We had all intentions of updating it after his dr appt yesterday, but the day ended up being just alittle crazy & scary for us.
It started with Chase getting sick the minute he got out of bed and then we had his routine hospital visit scheduled for 9:30am. We get there, and they access his port & draw blood, then we find out that ALL of his counts have dropped & not only that, but he needs 3 transfusions as well. They have to give him red blood, platelets & pottassium. Each one takes about 2-3 hrs to give. And before they could give him any chemo, these transfusions had to be done first.
To speed things up some they decided to access his other port also. He has a dual port, specifically for times like this, that might occur. Being that he was already accessed & they wanted to access him again only about a 1/2" away from the first one, they couldn't numb it at all. His port sits about 1/4" below the skin surface. Again, he was so brave & told them to just do it. He squeezed my hand as hard as he could & closed his eyes and before he new it, it was over. HE DID IT !!! The little guy is just amazing.
The nurses can't believe how brave he really is. They told us that there isn't a single teenager that would do what Chase just did. They make such a fuss over him & we really do believe it helps Chase.
Once all the transfusions were done around 4pm, now it was time for his chemo. The 1st one went pretty good, the second one.........well, remember how we mentioned how Chase doesn't do shots very well. He still doesn't. When he seen 2 nurses walk in & both of them had these shots in their hands with huge needles, he knew right then what was about to happen. He started crying instantly because he was so scared. We all tried to settle him down, but couldn't. We felt so bad for him. He asked us "why does this all have to happen to me today?" And then he threw one of his famous lines at the nurses, he said "i've decided we're not going to do this today". Everybody started cracking up laughing, even Chase. Wouldn't ya know, there he is again, realizing what has to be done & accepting it. Your not suppose to act & think like that when you're only 8 yrs old. It was almost like something took over him for a minute & calmed him down long enough for both nurses to hit each thigh on the count of three. He has to get these shots like this every 5-6 weeks. And they're just alittle too wicked to give through his port, that close to his heart, they say.
Once the shot is given, a nurse has to sit right there with him for about 45 minutes or so, to make sure he isn't going to have any sort of reaction. An hour had passed & everything went alright & we were told that we were free to go. The day was finally over & we were going home at 6pm....or so we thought. We get out to the car & Chase wants to call mommy 1st thing. I'm not even out of the parking garage when he tells Deb that he'll have to call her back because he's feeling kind of weird. Next thing i know, he's got all he cloths off in the back seat & he's burning up & sweating like crazy. Within about 2 minutes, his entire body is starting to blister all over. I called Deb & asked her to call the hospital & tell them i'll meet the dr in the ER. He had hundreds & hundreds of blisters all over him. Some of them the size of quarters. His lips had swollen up about 3 times there normal size. From head to toe, he was covered with blisters. Every inch of his body. At first he paniced BAD, but then, just like hours before with his shots, all of a sudden he was very peaceful & calm. I kept telling him everything was going to be alright & just try to relax. I told him that we'll be back at the hospital in just a few minutes. All i could hear him saying in the backseat was "stay calm Chase, you're going to be alright". I don't know exactly what happened or what was going thru Chase's mind during all this, i just know that somehow-someway he was able to stay strong & keep a positive attitude even during something like this. There's a part of me that almost feels that he was trying to keep me calm as well. He is truly remakable.
We finally get back to the ER & the blisters soon turn to a rash covering his entire body. He said they itched like crazy, but the dr's told him not to scratch. They gave him some medicine & within about 1hr, the rash was gone. They ran some tests to try & determine if it was a reaction from one of the transfusions or from one of the chemo's.
It was decided after several hours & a panel of doctors, that it was from one of the chemo's & guess which one?
Yes, the shots to the thighs. And now, dr. Chase thinks that it'll probably be best if he doesn't ever get those shots again, due to the reaction he had.
He ended up falling asleep on the way home. We get home to find that Deb & Jenna had made signs & hung them all over the house telling Chase how much they love him & how proud they are of him & welcoming him home.
He slept ok through-out the nite but was very tired & sluggish all day today.
The dr's tell us that his counts will continue to drop for the next 2-3weeks & not to be alarmed if he spikes a fever & ends up back in the hospital. We're just praying & hoping that doesn't happen. We're scheduled back up at the hospital this friday the 25th (happy b-day uncle D)
Thanks for all your support & prayers. God bless you all.

P.S. Check out the new photos of Chase's "Duke Room", it's pretty cool.

TUESDAY CHASE WENT BACK ON ARA-C SHOTS AND HAD A SCAN TO MAKE SURE FUNGAL WAS NOT GROWING OR HIDING. THE SCAN CAME BACK CLEAR. WHAT A BLESSING THAT WAS. WE WERE ALL RELIEVED! CHASE IS TAKING THE TWO MEDS ORALLY MUCH BETTER. HE IS STILL THE TROOPER WE ARE SO PROUD OF. TUESDAY HE RECIEVED THE ARA-C THRU HIS PORT. HE HAS TO TAKE THE CHEMO FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS AND ON WEDNESDAY HE WAS BRAVE AND TOOK THE SHOT IN HIS LEG INSTEAD OF HIS PORT. THIS WAY WE DON'T RISK THE CHANCE OF INFECTION BY REACCESSING HIS PORT DAILY. (THIS IS WHAT HOME CARE WAS GOING TO COME TO OUR HOME TO DO. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD NOT COMPLY TO AKRON CHILDRENS REQUESTS SO WE ARE TAKING HIM UP TO CLINIC EVERYDAY INSTEAD)

HE IS NOW ON A MISSION TO WRITE 3 BOOKS ABOUT HIMSELF. THE FIRST BOOK IS HOW HE GOT SICK. THE SECOND BOOK IS HOW HE DELT WITH IT, AND THE THIRD BOOK IS CALLED " THE BOY WHO MADE IT". HE WRITES AND EVERY SO OFTEN ASKS HOW TO SPELL SOMETHING. HE DOSEN'T SEEM TO BE UPSET GOING BACK IN TIME. JENNA KEEPS ASKING IF HE HAS TO KEEP WRITING SAD STUFF. HE EXPLAINED THAT HE HAS TO WRITE IT ALL! HE ACTS LIKE OUR FAMILY COUNSELOR.

WE PUT NEW PHOTOS ON PHOTO PAGE. HIS COSTUME IS SCARING BAXTER TO DEATH. THE DOG RUNS FROM CHASE AND WON'T GO IN THE SAME ROOM AS THE COSTUME. WE WON'T KNOW IF CHASE CAN TRICK OR TREAT TILL THAT WEEK. HE UNDERSTANDS AND SAYS IF HE CAN'T HE WILL AT LEAST WEAR IT TO THE HOSPITAL.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DOUG RENNIE AND HIS WIFE ROSE. AFTER YEARS OF PRACTICE THEY HAD A BABY BOY ON OCT. 11TH.(THOMAS PATRICK RENNIE). DOUG IS A DEAR FRIEND OF OURS FROM HIGH SCHOOL.(THEY DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN DOUG) EVERYONE KNOWS HIM BY HIS LETTERS TO CHASE IN THE GUESTBOOK. CHASE HAS BEEN WELL EDUCATED BY THE NEWBORN PHOTOS DOUG HAS E-MAILED US. (HAHA..I SHOULD MAKE YOU ANSWER ALL HIS QUESTIONS)

A COUPLE FROM THE CHURCH COMES EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT TO GIVE OUR FAMILY COMMUNION. CHASE ENJOYS THEIR VISITS. THIS WEEK CHASE AND JENNA HAVE TO FIND A READING.

SORRY THE UPDATE HAS TAKEN SO LONG. WE WANTED TO WAIT TILL AFTER TUESDAY TO UPDATE. THANKS FOR LOGGING ON. UNTIL NEXT TIME. GOD BLESS!!!

P.S. AN ERROR WAS MADE WITH THE NUMBER OF YEARS AGO DEB WAS AT EAST SPARTA GRADE SCHOOL. DAVE WAS VERY TIRED THE NIGHT HE UPDATED THE JOURNAL AND MADE A HUGH MATHEMATICAL ERROR!!

Tuesday, October 08, 2002 at 10:10 PM (CDT)

We finally were able to put some pictures of Chase on his webpage. To see them, go to the main page & click on 'photos'. Chase doesn't like the pictures, he says they make his cheeks look too big. So we'll try to get some new ones on as soon as we can.
We took Chase up to the clinic today & found that almost all his counts have come back up & we were able to start back on schedule with his treatments. It all went pretty good today. We have to have him back up again tomorrow, but then on thursday we're going to try bringing a nurse to the house to give him his shot. We'll see how that goes.
Chase does shots about as well as he does pills.
We have to have him back up there though on friday because his potassium count dropped pretty good & they're not quite sure why. And because of that, he now has to start taking potassium pills again, along with his regular chemo pills.
He's up to 6 pills a day now, starting today. The 1st day of pill-taking did not go well. After about 2 hrs of trying to get them down, he gets sick after the 4th pill & we have to start over again. We never did get them all down.
He's eating alot better now & has even gained a few lbs since last week, which is very good. I think he knows if he doesn't eat, he'll have to take another pill to increase his appetite.
Chase rec'd another email from coack K, from Duke basketball, asking him what home game (or games) he'd like to come to this season. Coach K told us to call his assistant to set it all up. So we called & the lady (Mrs Gerry Brown) told us that coach K has told her that he'd love to have us down to as many games as we can get to & that we'd be sitting right behind him on the bench during the games.......WOW !!!! She also said that the coach wants to know if Chase would like to go in the locker room after the games & coach K would intoduce him to all the players(providing they win she said). She then said if we get down early that we could probably spend some time with him.
We're going to start by trying to go to the White-Blue intersquad scrimmage on saturday oct. 26th, but we'll just have to wait & see how Chase's counts are then. We're going to try & arrange to meet the Duke baseball coaches while we're down there too.
Chase also finally got an email back from Dustin Fox from OSU football & he said that he would really like to meet him & that so would everyone else on the team....WOW!!!
So maybe after the season we'll try setting that up.
Chase has been doing really well though since the last update. He's sleeping all nite now & has alot of energy.
It's so awesome to see him up & around & wanting to do things. The dr's tell us though, that the chemo he got today, will catch up with him in 5-7 days. So we'll just enjoy these good times while we can. We can only hope that his counts don't drop enough to delay his treatments again.
Next tuesday, the 15th, we have another cat-scan scheduled to look for any problems with his organs. Keep your fingers crossed.
Tomorrow should be a fun day for the kids because it's mommy's birthday. I told Deb i wouldn't write how old she'll be, so i'll just say that 30 yrs ago (when she was 10) she was enjoying the 5th grade at East Sparta Elementary.
Again, we want to thank EVERYONE for the ongoing support you are giving us. Sure, it's great hearing from these big name coaches & all these colleges, but we also know that it's our friends & family that have been there for us from day one. We will never forget what all of you have done for us. We love you all. God Bless

Chase has had a really good week. That is due mainly to the fact that it's been 15 days since his last chemo treatment.
We feel his counts are continuing to rise & we should be able to get back on schedule next tuesday the 8th.
He's also been taking his pills alot better too, except for tonite. We went out to eat & about half way thru his meal he start turning real pale & said he was really tired. So we left & he slept the whole way home. Once we got home he had to take his last pill for the day. He took it & got sick instantly. We were able to get another one down though & he fell right back asleep. So hopefully he'll sleep all nite peacefully. We really don't know if it was something he ate or just the whole pill scene or if it was even maybe a reaction to something. It's hard to tell.
Chase had a pretty good day today though before all that happened tonite. He watched about 4 movies, did some homework, carved a 100 lb (yes...100#) pumpkin that was about 2 feet in diameter, given to us by some friends.
Chase has been collecting (actually, mom & dad have been collecting) all the new state quarters. He's got them all, both D's & P's, except for just a few states. So we spent a few hours this afternoon organizing all those in his book.
We're hoping maybe next friday to be able to take Chase to the SV football game. He's really wanting to go & watch Kyle play. Boy, is Kyle having a great year & Chase hears about it every week too from all his friends. Kyle brings Chase a tape of the game every week, that way at least he can watch it. He really looks forward to that every monday nite.
Chase sent Dustin Fox, an OSU football player, an email yesterday & now all he wants to do every 10 minutes, is check his email to see if maybe he emailed him back.
We looked into to maybe taking Chase to a Duke basketball game, but i was too late. They're already sold out every home game. We're hoping maybe coach K will come thru with some tickets though, since he did ask Chase if he'd like to come to a game sometime. He REALLY wanted to see the Duke vs. OSU game in Greensboro on December 3rd. We haven't given up on that one yet. Man would he ever love that. I don't know who he'd cheer for.
He also wants to go & see Boozer play up at Gund Arena. So we told him we'll try to set something up, if his counts are alright.
We're all just enjoying these good days while we can. Chase remains such an inspiration to all of us. He stays positive all the time, no matter what. He just absolutely never complains, even when he's getting sick. It just tears Deb & i up when he actually starts apologizing for being sick. He just wants so bad to do what he used to be able to do. We know by next week at this time, after a week of chemo, his counts could be back down again the dr's say & he'll be feeling like crap. We just need to get thru this 2nd phase. He's been stuck at day #28 since Sept. 19th, so we just need to hang on for another 35 days (pending no delays) The 3rd phase, which will last for 56 days, is suppose to be alot easier on him.
It's truly amazing how Chase is still receiving calls & still getting cards & emails & journal entry's from everyone. It is just so uplifting to read all of it.
All of you have been a MAJOR support factor to us.
Jenna has been the greatest big sister ever during all this.
There's times Deb & i both feel she is just absolutely incredible for a little 10 yr old (soon to be 11 on Christmas Eve). Some of the things she does & says to Chase litterally brings tears to our eyes. She really hates to see him in any discomfort or pain. She'll sit & play games with him or read him a book or play cards or just sit with him & watch a movie. She looks out for him with everything he does.

we'll, thanks again to everyone for everything.
God Bless you !!!

CHASE IS FEELING PRETTY GOOD!!! ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD!!!! HIS COUNTS HAVE TO BE ON THE RISE, BECAUSE HE IS GETTING ACTIVE AGAIN. LET'S SEE TODAY...HE GOT UP ATE FRENCH TOAST, DID ALL OF HIS CHORES ON HIS CHORE CHART, (MAKE BED, BRUSH TEETH, HOMEWORK ETC...)DID YOGO FOR THE FIRST TIME,(CHASE DID NOT LIKE IT..ASK HIM ABOUT IT) TRIED GIVING THE CAT A BATH, GOT SOME E-MAILS ANSWERED, WENT TO MEET DAD FOR LUNCH, WENT TO THE LIBRARY, TUTOR CAME AND TOOK THREE TEST AND RECIEVED A'S ON ALL, PICKED SISTER UP FROM PIANO, DROPPED HER OFF AT VOLLEYBALL GAME, (JENNA IS BALL GIRL FOR 8TH GRADE)CAME HOME AND ATE REALLY GOOD, TOOK HIS PILL IN 25 SECONDS, (FEW DAYS AGO IT TOOK 1 1/2 HOURS) HIT GOLF BALLS IN YARD WITH DAD, PLAYED A LITTLE HOOP, SAT FOR 5 MINUTES, PLAYED SKIP BO,(CARD GAME)HAD A WRESTLING MATCH WITH SISTER, AND FINALLY WENT TO BED!!! NOW DO YOU SEE WHY DAVE AND I ARE SO TIRED? LIFE IS GOOD WHEN CHASE IS FEELING GOOD!!!

WE ARE STARTING CHEMO ON TUESDAY. WE HAVE TO BE AT THE CLINIC EVERYDAY NEXT WEEK DUE TO ONE OF THE CHEMOS AND TO WATCH HIS COUNTS. CHASE'S DOCTOR ASKED HOW HE HAS BEEN SLEEPING. CHASE TOLD HIM SOMETIMES ON MY BACK BUT I TURN TO MY SIDE SOMETIMES TOO! HIS DOCTOR GOT A KICK OUT OF THAT.
HIS BURN HAS WENT AWAY!!!(THAT WAS TOUGH) AND WE ARE ALL SLEEPING THIS WEEK. EVERYONE STILL ISN'T IN THEIR OWN BEDS, BUT WE ARE SLEEPING.

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING.

Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 09:29 PM (CDT)

THURSDAY WE WENT TO THE CLINIC TO FIND HIS COUNTS WERE STILL WAY DOWN. SO WE ARE NOT ABLE TO START CHEMO FOR ANOTHER WEEK. THIS WILL PUT US BACK 2 WEEKS NOW. BUT....THE GOOD THING IS HIS CHEMO IS DOING JUST WHAT IT SHOULD BE DOING AND THIS IS NORMAL TO BE DELAYED AT THIS POINT OF TIME IN HIS TREATMENT. IT IS JUST HARD TO STOP AND TO NOT KEEP PUSHING FORWARD. FOR EACH DELAY, IT IS EXTENDING HIS LENGTH OF TREATMENT. WE WERE AN 1 1/2 HOURS LATE FOR CLINIC ON THURSDAY DUE TO CHASE NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE HIS MEDICINE. HE FINALLY GOT IT ALL DOWN AND UP IT CAME. HIS DOCTOR IS GOING TO TRY ELIMINATING ONE PILL BY CHASE INHALING THE DRUG IN. WE WILL TRY THIS ON TUESDAY AND IT WILL LAST FOR 28 DAYS. HE IS ALSO SEVERELY BURNED DUE TO RADIATION. NATURAL ALOE IS THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO HELP. THIS MUST BE A HARD TIME IN HIS TREATMENT BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS CATCHING UP WITH HIM. HE IS STILL NOT ABLE TO SLEEP ALL NIGHT AND THEY SUGGEST BENADRYL BEFORE BED. WELL, HE REFUSES TO TAKE ANOTHER PILL THAT ISN'T ABSOLUTLY NEEDED! TONIGHT I READ CHASE A BOOK CALLED "HENRY AND THE WHITE WOLF". IT IS ABOUT A HEDGEHOG WHO IS SICK AND HIS COURAGEOUS BATTLE BACK TO HEALTH WHILE HE CLINGS TO HIS GOOD LUCK STONE. THE BOOK COMES WITH A GOOD LUCK STONE. AFTER READING THE BOOK IT WAS PILL TIME. (LIQUID IS GONE AND PILL FORM IS BACK) BUT NOW INSTEAD OF CUTTING THE PILL IN HALF, WE ARE SPLITTING IT IN FOURS.(TINY TINY PIECES) HE DID BETTER AS HE HELD HIS GOOD LUCK STONE THAT SHOULD HELP MAKE HIM BRAVE.

SPORTS UPDATE.........A GOOD FRIEND FROM FITNESS QUEST (DORTHY SNYDER)HAD A PACKAGE SENT TO CHASE. HE RECIEVED AN
AUTOGRAPHED FOOTBALL SIGNED BY JOE MONTANA. THE PACKAGE ALSO INCLUDED A SIGNED PHOTOGRAGH. HE HAD NO IDEA WHO HE WAS!!! THEN DAVE STARTED EXPLAINING THAT HE IS RETIRED AND HAS 4 SUPER BOWL RINGS AND IS IN THE HALL OF FAME. HE THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL! THANKS DORTHY, THAT WAS REALLY SWEET. I REMEMBER SHOPPING FOR JOE MONTANA WHEN I WORKED AT FITNESS QUEST. HE WAS DOING A COMMERCIAL FOR FITNESS QUEST AND I ACTUALLY GOT PAID TO GO BUY HIM CLOTHES.

ONCE AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN CHASE!!! LOVE TO YOU ALL.

Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 11:10 AM (CDT)

Chase has been hanging tough. We found out last Monday, the 23rd, that his counts have hit rock bottom. His ANC count & his white blood count are both at zero. That just means that he is acceptable to catch any virus & he has absolutely no immune system to fight it off. They have once again stopped all his chemo treatments until his counts come back up. We go back up to the hospital tomorrow, the 27th, for more blood tests. We can only hope that they've come back up enough to get back on schedule.
During the day, Chase does pretty good, but is very sluggish & has very little energy to do anything. At nite, he struggles quite abit to sleep. He very seldom sleeps all nite. He tosses & turns & moans & groans all nite. Last nite, i bet he didn't sleep but maybe a few hours or so all nite. Deb & i still take turns sleeping in there with him. So every-other nite we're getting some sleep as well.
He generally takes a couple hours nap everyday. Maybe that's what is screwing him up at nite, we don't know.
He continues though, to remain in good spitits & keeps a postive outlook on everything.
He's down to only a few pills a day, but still has some trouble taking them. There's one liquid medicine inparticular, that he just hate's taking. It almost always makes him sick afterwards, but he has to take it everyday.
We are at day #28 of this phase of his protocol. This phase will last for 63 days & is the most intense of the 3 phases.
Once we get thru this one, the next phase should be less intense on him & will last for 56 days.
We feel the radiation is starting to get the better of him as well. They told us it would be 10-14 days after his last treatment. It has been 10 days today. Chase has totally lost all his hair, but has begun to accept it pretty good. I think he actually looks pretty cool. He never leaves the house without his Duke hat though. Except for the one time last week that i forget to bring his hat to the doctors & he had to go in with no hat. HE DID NOT LIKE THAT !!! I definitely didn't get the 'father of the year' award that day.
Overall, Chase is doing pretty well considering all he's been thru. He continues to read all the journal entry's everyday & loves to open all the cards he gets in the mail.
Thanks to everybody, for all your prayers & support. We have truly come realize the power of prayer.
God bless you all.

CHASE IS GETTING MORE SLEEP THESE DAYS!! HE SWEARS HE CAN SLEEP BETTER IN MOM AND DAD'S BED!!! HE IS DOWN TO 4 PILLS BUT HE IS STILL NOT DOING WELL TAKING THEM. SOMETIMES IT TAKES AN HOUR TO GET 2 DOWN HIM. HE WAS GETTING SICK AFTER HE SWALLOWED THIS CERTAIN PILL. NOW HE THINKS HE WILL GET SICK AFTER HE TAKES ANY OF THE PILLS. WE HAVE SINCE CHANGED THE ONE HE THINKS HE GETS SICK ON INTO A LIQUID. I THINK HE IS SO TIRED OF THE WHOLE PILL TAKING SCENE.

WE WILL BE BACK AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL ON MONDAY. SINCE HE IS OFF THE DAILY ANTI-FUNGUL ANTIBIOTIC HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP HIS POTASSIUM STABLE. THEY WILL BE CHECKING HIS LEVEL. CROSSING OUR FINGERS FOR NO HIDDEN SURPRISES.

CHASE'S COUNTS ARE UP SO WE WENT TO RED ROBIN TO EAT ON FRIDAY. (HIS FAVORITE PLACE) THEN WENT TO TOYS R US. MOM MADE HIM "PURELL" HIS HANDS 5 TIMES IN 2 HOURS WHEN WE ARE OUT.THEN ON SATURDAY, LOGAN (HIS COUSIN) CAME OVER TO PLAY ON HIS PLAY STATION AND HANG OUT. WHEN I PULLED IN THE DRIVEWAY HE WAS PLAYING PADDEL BALL OUTSIDE. (YOU JUST CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN!!) HE DID PAY FOR OVER DOING IT LATER. HE WAS SORE ALL OVER AND HIS PORT HURT. TO GET BACK IN THE GROOVE HE HAS TO START OUT TAKING BABY STEPS. BUT,ANYONE WHO KNOWS CHASE KNOWS THAT'S NOT THE WAY HE OPERATES.

SPORTS UPDATE.....CHASE RECIEVED A LETTER FROM B.J. UPTON. HE SAID HIM AND HIS FRIEND, DAVID WRIGHT HEARD FROM THE COACHING STAFF AT DUKE THE STRUGGLE CHASE WAS GOING THROUGH. DAVE GOT DRAFTED LAST YEAR BY THE METS AND B.J. BY TAMPA BAY. A BOX CAME IN THE MAIL WHERE DAVE SIGNED A ROOKIE CARD AND SIGNED A HAT HE WORE IN A GAME. THEY BOTH SIGNED A BASEBALL FOR CHASE. B.J WROTE IN HIS LETTER..."I DON'T HAVE A ROOKIE CARD YET SO WHEN I GET BACK FROM INSTUCTIONAL LEAGUE I'LL SEND YOU AND YOUR SISTER AUTOGRAPHED COPIES OF MY USA TODAY ARTICLE. I HAVEN'T SIGNED ANY OTHER COPIES SO WHEN I GET FAMOUS YOU AND YOUR SISTER CAN HAVE SOMETHING COOL THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS (THAT WAY YOU TWO CAN ROOT FOR ME THAT I GET FAMOUS). TAKE CARE AND SEE YOU IN THE BIGGS!

PRETTY AWESOME UH? ALTHOUGH WE THINK HEARING FROM ALL THE SPORTS AFFILIATED PEOPLE IS COOL, WHAT ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY HAVE DONE FOR US IS PRETTY AWESOME AS WELL!!!

HAVE A GOOD DAY AND KEEP CHECKING IN!!!

Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 02:20 PM (CDT)

THE LAST TWO NIGHTS HAVE BEEN SLEEPLESS!!! FIRST MOM TRIED ALL NIGHT THE FIRST NIGHT AND THEN DAD TRIED LAST NIGHT. DAD GOT THE WORST END OF THE STICK BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID HE NOT SLEEP BUT WAS SICK MOST OF THE NIGHT. DURING THE DAY HE IS FINE WITH ENERGY AND HIGH SPIRITS...SOOOOOO WE WENT TO THE CLINIC TODAY TO TRY TO SORT OUT WHAT IS MAKING HIM SICK AT TIMES AND WHAT IS GIVING HIM INSOMNIA. HE HAD HIS SPINAL TAP AND A DOSE OF CHEMO THROUGH HIS PORT. WHEN HIS BLOOD COUNTS CAME BACK WE WERE SURPRISED THAT THEY ARE ALL ON THE RISE AND HIS POTASSIUM IS FINALLY STABLE. SO NOW INSTEAD OF TAKING 23 PILLS A DAY WE ARE DOWN TO 4 PILLS A DAY!!!! THEY COULD NOT GIVE US AN ANSWER ABOUT INSOMNIA BUT PUT HIM BACK ON A PILL FOR ACID IN HIS STOMACH FOR NAUSEA. WE CELEBRATED AND HAD KFC TWISTERS ON THE WAY HOME. CHASE ISN'T THE TYPE TO LAY AROUND!!! HE STILL NEEDS LOTS OF THINGS TO KEEP HIM BUSY. HIS THING THIS WEEK IS TOUCH FOOTBALL IN THE SIDE YARD. ANOTHER THING THAT KEEPS HIM BUSY IS HOUR LONG BUBBLE BATHS LISTENING AND SINGING TO LIL BOW WOW.

MOVE OVER DUKE....OSU FOOTBALL PLAYERS SENT CHASE A SIGNED FOOTBALL AND A LETTER FROM DUSTIN FOX #37 DEFENSIVE BACK STARTER. (LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE CHEERING FOR OSU IN FOOTBALL..THAT WILL MAKE THE KNOX'S HAPPY)DUSTIN IS FROM GLENOAK. HE IS ROOMING IN COLUMBUS WITH NICK McCLELLAND FROM MAGNOLIA. JEFF AND STEPH LOOMIS BOUGHT AN OFFICIAL FOOTBALL AND NICK TOOK CARE OF THE REST. (THANKS GUYS!!)

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE THINGS YOU DO!!! PEOPLE HAVE REALLY BEEN THERE IN TIME OF NEED. WE HAVE APPRICIATED EVERYTHING. CHASE'S DOCTORS AND NURSES ARE AMAZED ON THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT...THEY ALL WANT TO MOVE TO MAGNOLIA.(TRYING TO THANK OUR FAMILY IS ANOTHER CHAPTER IN ITSELF)

RECIEVED A LETTER FROM A FRIEND TODAY. SHE SENT A SAYING ABOUT ATTITUDE. IT REALLY HIT HOME! THIS ONE THING STUCK WITH ME....I AM CONVINCED THAT LIFE IS 10% WHAT HAPPENS TO ME AND 90% HOW I REACT TO IT.

TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS!

CHASE IS HOME!!!!
He got home this evening. He's alittle tired & appears to be somewhat 'woreout'. But he's glad to be home & sleeping in his own bed. He actually gets to sleep-in tomorrow morning for the first time in a long time. Tuesday will be the first day he doesn't have to make a trip to either the hospital or the clinic in 42 days. He's not due back up to the hospital until wednesday morning.
Unfortunately though, his counts are at an all-time low. We have to be very careful where he goes & who he's around.
He really could pick up anything. But as always, his spirits are up & his attitude is good. His will to remain strong thru all this has just been unbelievable. I know i say it all the time, but he is truly an inspiration to all of us.
Saturday morning, while in the hospital, Chase rec'd a call from head baseball coach at duke, mr. bill hillier. He just called to see how he was doing & told him to hurry & get well because there's a whole college baseball team waiting to meet him. Needless to say, Chase was on cloud nine all day.
When he got home this evening, there was an email waiting on him from coach K. He told him to stay strong & keep a positive attitude.
Chase couldn't wait to get home & read all the journal entry's from everyone. He missed reading them every nite.
Chase is starting to have some trouble taking his pills. He got sick again tonite right after taking some. I wouldn't know why, he's only taking 23 of them a day. He's afraid now, that he'll get sick from them. It's so hard for him to understand sometimes that he has to take them all in order to get well. It just scares him, because he doesn't want to get sick anymore.
I want to thank EVERYONE once again for all you prayers & ongoing support to Chase & all our family.
God Bless You.

Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 11:12 AM (CDT)

Thursday nite Chase slept pretty peaceful. I ended up taking him to the hospital friday morning for his scheduled check-up. They found his pancreas to be enlarged & irratated, so the dr's wanted to admit him. Since he hadn't eaten in over 2 days, they wanted to get an IV in him & monitor him for awhile. Chase did not want to go to the hospital, nor did we, but we all felt this was the best thing for him right now.
He had an 'alright' day up there friday (considering he's on a liquid diet) & slept pretty comfortably friday nite. They ended up waking him up, in the middle of the nite, for a potassiom transfusion though because it had dropped off throughout the nite.
This morning, the dr came in & informed us that both his red blood cell count & his platelet counts were low & he'd need those 2 transfusions today asap.
At this point, we really don't know how long he'll be up here. We're just trying to keep his spirits up until we can get him home. Anyone wishing to call him, can do so at 330.543.4658 & that will ring right into his room.
Thank you for keeping Chase in your prayers.

Chase has had a rough day today. Probably his worst todate.
It started out with him getting sick this morning before even leaving the house. Then we had our scheduled visit at Akron Childrens for a 9:30am spinal tap. He was given his chemo shot in his spine at the same time. Immediately after that, he had to get yet another chemo shot in his legs. Two nurses, at the same time, had to give him the shots in his thighs. One in each leg, on a count of three. Chase DOES NOT do shots very well. After that, he had one more batch of chemo given to him thru his port. He was litterally drained & his day wasn't even half over yet.
We left Childrens & went right over to General for his radiation. We had just gotten there & he got sick again.
The poor little guy didn't know what was going on. He just knew that he felt like crap.
We knew this was coming, we were just hoping it wouldn't be so hard on him, like it is. One can only imagine what he was feeling or going thru. He tried to tell us where all it hurt, but all he could say was that he hurt all over.
Once we got home, it really didn't get any better for him.
He just kept getting sicker & sicker by the hour. Finally i called the doctor, and they called him in a perscription to ease the nausea. An hour or so after taking the medicine, he breaks out into this rash & gets sick again.
I called the doctor once again. He wants us to watch him closely tonite & if he continues to get sick thru-out the nite, or runs a fever...call him at once & get him up to the ER.
He is in bed sleeping at this minute and appears to be ok.
We're scheduled to be back up there tomorrow (friday) morning first thing. We all feel (including the dr's), that this is all just finally catching up with Chaser. His little body can only handle so much. He's been so strong for so long. I know this is all needed to get him better, but as a parent, watching your child suffer like this, knowing there is nothing you can do to take the pain away, is really just tearing me apart.
Thanks again to everyone, for all your prayers & support.

Chase has been doing pretty well. When he started back on his chemo august 30th, they told us we'd start seeing some side effects in 7-10 days. Well, today was day #11 & they were right. His counts have been dropping daily & you can just tell he's not feeling very good at all. But he's hanging in there. I know i say it all the time, but he really is a strong little guy. With his counts as low as they are, he really should be feeling alot worse than he ever leads on that he is. He just never complains about anything. His spirits are always up. He's such an inspiration to all of us.
We're still making daily trips to both Akron Childrens for chemo and antibiotics & Akron General for radiation. Hopefully we'll be done with this sometime early next week.
Then we'll just be making our regular 3-4 times/week visits, which will be alot easier on Chaser.
Chase recieved yet another phone call, the other nite, from assistant baseball coach Eric Filipek, from Duke. He just called to say hi & to see how he was doing. And then tonite Chase got an email from the head baseball coach, Bill Hillier, from Duke, and he mentioned that the whole team is really anxious to meet him. He also said that just because he hasn't written or called in a week or so, not to think for a minute, that he hasn't been thinking & praying for Chase. Are these guys unbelievable or what? They are making Chase feel so good.
There's not enough medicine in the world that could make Chase feel any better then when he gets an email, a phone call, a letter in the mail or when he reads a new journal entry. So please, keep them coming. He really loves to hear from all of you.
I know he's only 8 yrs old, but i also know he's aware of all the support everyone has/is giving him. He's an exceptional little guy.
At the spaghetti dinner last friday, when we first walked in & everyone started clapping, he looked at me & squeezed my hand & and said "oh my gosh daddy, are they doing that for me?" Of course i was so choked up i couldn't even answer him. And as for Deb.....well, let's just say she was a basket-case too.
That evening will remain in our hearts & in our minds for as long as we live.
I want to mention again how touched we are by everyone's support. God has blessed us with the best family & friends you could ever ask for. It brings tears to our eyes everytime we talk or even think about everything you all are doing for us. To merely say 'thank you' isn't enough.
We thank God everyday for all he's given us...especially all of you.
God bless each and everyone of you.

As of this writing, Chase has been doing really well. We're still making our daily trips to both hospitals (Childrens & General) for treatments and radiation. We'll continue this thru next friday, September 13th.
Sunday, the 1st, Chase had his scheduled treatment & we finished up around 1pm. We decided to take him over to the Akron Areo's baseball game. It was "Cancer Surviver Day" & he got to walk out on the field before the game & they all released balloons at the same time. It was pretty cool.
He made it thru about 7 innings, before he started getting alittle hot. But he had a really good time.
When we got home around 6pm, Chase got a phone call from the Duke University baseball coach, Mr. Eric Fillipek. This is about the 3rd or 4th time this coach has called to see how Chase has been doing. Coach Fillipek & a few of the players want to meet Chase. So we're going to try & arrange something here in the weeks or months to come.
These coaches at Duke have just been remarkable.
Coach K (basketball) and coaches Fillipek & Hillier (baseball) are 3 of the nicest gentlemen i've never met.
It says so much for them, to take the time from there busy schedule, to call this little 8 yr old boy, they never met before.
But it's not just the these coaches calling Chase, that's helping him feel better. It's also all the prayers & support that our entire community has given us. Our family & friends have been there for us, right from the start. If given a lifetime, we still couldn't thank all of you. But we sure will try.
Chase had a break with the
radiation sat, sun & monday.
Labor Day, Chase & dad had another long day up at the hospital. He ended up needing pottasium again & we didn't get home until around 6pm. We went straight over to troy & sandi's for a cookout. Chase had a blast. After we ate, all the kids went down the basement to play. Someone wanted to play doctor & they wanted Chase to be the patient.
It took Chase about 1 second to say "NO WAY".
Tuesday the 3rd, we resumed radiation along with the scheduled chemo & daily anibiotics for his fungal infection.
The antibiotics he's taking is what's messing up his pottassium level.. It's some pretty wicked stuff.
Wednesday the 4th, we took him up for the same. He came home & had his very 1st home-schooling tonite. It went great. He really likes his teacher. She seems very nice.
Then he had to decide weather to stay home with dad & play with clay neisel and cory & cole sickafoose or go watch the girls volleyball team play. Guess which one he picked?
The boys all played so good together. It was so heart-warming to hear him down there playing with his friends like that.
By the way, Jenna is ball-girl for the Sandy Valley girls volleyball team. She's in the 5th grade & really likes her new teacher. I think she just likes being over at East Sparta School with nona. Jenna has just been the 'model big sister' thru all this. She does everything she can for her little brother & then some. She understands exactly what's going on. My heart just aches for her though, for she has had to give up practically her whole summer due to Chase's illness, but has never complained once. She just wants him better & back to his normal self. She will always be daddy's little girl. WHAT A PRINCESS !!!!!
Thursday the 5th, Chase has another spinal tap scheduled.
We can only pray that it comes back good, like it has been doing. It's very important that his cancer cells don't settle on his spine & that's what they're watching for.
Friday the 6th, Chase REALLY wants to go to the spaghetti dinner. We don't know what to do. We're going to wait & see what his counts are & what the doctor says.
well, i just want to end by saying thanks to everyone again.
we love you all & God Bless.

Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 08:20 AM (CDT)

Chase had a long day friday up at the clinic. Him & daddy were up there for almost 10 hrs. He rec'd his antibiotic for his fungal infection, he got his chemo & then we found out that his potassium was still low, so they had to give him a dose of that. Just as they were about done, Chase accidently pulled the line out of his port. The needle actually came out & the liquid was running down his stomache. Of course he paniced (and so did daddy). They ended up having to re-access him without any medication to numb it. As always, he was the bravest little guy. He knew it was going to hurt, but he just squeezed daddy's hand, closed his eyes, looked away & told the nurse to 'go for it'. Uncle T (Troy) told chase once, that the next time he gets something done that might hurt, to close his eyes and imagine uncle Rocco standing by our swimming pool,on our diving board, wearing aunt lisa's bathing suit. He told Chase, if that don't make him laugh, that nothing will. Well, i have to tell you...it worked. Because, after they had him re-accessed, Chase looked over at me & smiled and said he was thinking about what uncle T had told him. I have to admit, that would be a pretty funny scenerio, wouldn't it?
Once we finished up at Akron Childrens, we had to go straight over to Akron General for his 2nd dose of radiation. All went well there too. And once again, he was the 'perfect patient'. It's just amazing how strong this little guy has been. With everything he's been thru, he never complains. He is so aware & up on everything that's going on. He knows what everything is called that they do to him, he knows what every pilled is called & what it does, he knows the name of every dr. & nurse. If mom & dad can't remember a name or what was done that given day, we just ask Chase.
On our way home from General, we called mommy & Jenna at home. Deb told me to call back in a few minutes, so we did.
Deb proceeded to tell me that she just got off the phone with coach "K" from duke basketball. He called to see how Chase was doing. Deb told him that we were on our way home & he asked if it would be alright if he called back later on in the evening. He DID call back around 7pm. He talked to Chase for about 5-10 minutes. And then i (Dave) talked to him for probably 15-20 minutes. WHAT A GREAT GUY !!!!
He told me that Chase could email him as often as he wants to & that he WILL write back to everyone of them. He asked Chase if he would like to come to one of Duke's basketball games. He also told me that he would love to meet Chase someday. This guy was absolutely incredible. He was on vacation, down in mrytle beach, when he called.
I can't even begin to tell you how this lifted Chase's spirits. He was so excited all nite. Now that i think about it though, i don't really know who was more
excited....Chase or daddy.
Anyways, Chase is back up at the hospital today with Deb, to get all his treatment. As Deb mentioned earlier, we're going to wait & see how today & tomorrow go to see if he's able to go to the baseball game sunday in akron.
I want to end by thanking EVERYONE for EVERYTHING. Without all our family & friends, we'd never get thru. All of you are heaven sent. Please continue sending Chase the journal entry's, he loves reading them & does so everyday.
We love all of you & God Bless each and everyone of you.

WE ARE SO GLAD TO BE BACK ON OUR PROTCAL FOR TREATMENT. MAYBE WE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE SOMEWHAT OF A SCHEDULE. CHASE WILL BE GOING UP EVERYDAY TILL SEPT. 14TH. THAT INCLUDES WEEKENDS AND LABOR DAY. AKRON CHILDRENS IS HAVING AN OUTING THIS SUNDAY AT THE AKRON AREOS. CHASE WANTS TO GO IN THE WORST WAY. WE WILL WAIT TO SEE.
THURSDAY CHASE HAD A SPINAL WITH VERY LITTLE SUDATION. WE WERE REAL PROUD OF HIM. HIS RADIATION WENT WELL BUT AS WE WERE LEAVING HE GOT SICK IN PARKING LOT. NOW IS THE TOUGH PART TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT CHEMO OR IS THE RADIATION MAKING HIM SICK! CHASE HAS TO SWALLOW 22 PILLS IN ONE DAY. SOME ARE ORAL CHEMO OTHERS HELP DIFFERNT SIDE EFFECTS. BELIEVE ME HE KNOWS ALL THE NAMES AND WHAT THEY DO FOR HIM. THE NURSES LAUGH BECAUSE HE QUESTIONS EVERYTHING THEY DO AND COMPARES THEM TO OTHER NURSES. (HE REALLY RULES WHEN HE IS IN THE HOSPITAL)
SAINT JAMES SCHOOL HAS BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE. ALL THE CLASSES HAVE MADE CARDS FOR HIM. HE REALLY ENJOYS THAT. UNCLE D IS A NEW 7TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER AT FAIRCREST AND ALL 4 OF HIS CLASSES MADE CARDS FOR CHASE. (150 CARDS) SUPPORT HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR ON HOW HE COPES. THANK YOU......

Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 07:32 PM (CDT)

FINALLY BACK ON CHEMO (YEA). WENT TO CLINIC ON MONDAY FOR HIS FUNGAL MEDICINE. HIS POTASSIUM WAS VERY LOW BECAUSE OF THE FUNGAL MEDICINE. THEY GAVE HIM POTASSIUM IN AN IV AND DECIDED TO KEEP HIM FOR THE NIGHT.TUESDAY HE HAD A CT SCAN AND EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. NO TRACES OF ANY FUNGAL AT THIS POINT BUT HE WILL CONTINUE TO BE TREATED FOR FUNGAL FOR AN ADDITIONAL 2 WEEKS JUST TO BE SAFE. KEEPING HIM OVERNIGHT TO START CHEMO TUESDAY EVENING. SPINAL TAP WEDNESDAY MORNING, MORE CHEMO THROUGH HIS PORT AND TO AKRON GENERAL FOR RADIATION BY 12:30.(JUST A WALK IN THE PARK)
CHASE IS STILL IN GREAT SPIRITS AND WANTS TO START HIS SCHOOLING. A NEW PROGRAM IS AT SANDY VALLEY. THEY GIVE CHASE A COMPUTER, PRINTER AND SCANNER TO DO HIS SCHOOL WORK. HE WILL ALSO HAVE A TUTOR COME TO THE HOUSE. WE ARE ALL DOING FINE. EVERYONE IS SO CONCERED ABOUT JENNA AND SHE IS TIRED OF ME ASKING HER IF SHE IS O.K. (HAHA). CHASE BOUGHT A STEERING WHEEL FOR HIS PLAYSTATION 2 GAME AND WE OUR HAVING ALOT OF FUN RACING.THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND WE LOVE READING THE GUEST BOOK!! KEEP LOGGING ON!!

Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 07:58 AM (CDT)

CHASE IS FEELING WELL. HE DOES HAVE MUSCLE AND JOINT PAINS FROM IS ANTI FUNGAL MEDICINE WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO WALK AT TIMES. HE DECIDED TO SHAVE HIS HEAD!! HIS UNCLE DEREK HELPED HIM, DAVE VIDEOTAPED,AND JENNA AND I LAUGHED AND CRIED. WE HAVE BEEN TAKING HIM EVERYDAY TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. (EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS)THIS WEDNESDAY HE WILL HAVE ANOTHER CT SCAN DONE TO CHECK IF ALL IS WELL AND THE FUNGAL INFECTION HAS NOT INVADED ANY ORGANS. (LIVER, SPLEEN, LUNGS, ETC.)KEEP FINGERS CROSSED SO WE CAN START BACK ON CHEMO. A LOT OF TIME WAS LOST.

WE WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HELPED WITH THE BLOOD DRIVE. WE HAVE A GREAT CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY. (WE HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN THAT.) DAVE WENT OVER AND I STAYED HOME WITH CHASE. DIFFERENT PEOPLE WOULD STOP IN AND KEEP ME UPDATED AND I WOULD CRY. SO I KNOW HOW EMOTIONAL I WOULD BE IF I WERE THERE.EVERYONE GAVE UP SO MUCH OH THEIR TIME THAT FRIDAY. THE PEOPLE GIVING BLOOD AND FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO WORKED ALL DAY.(SOME PEOPLE HAD TO WAIT 4 HOURS TO GIVE BLOOD.) A GREAT BIG HUG TO KIM BOWLING WHO CORDINATED THE WHOLE THING. SHE ALSO TAKES CARE OF SCHEDULING PEOPLE TO BRING FOOD OVER FOR SUPPER. SHE'S AN ANGEL IN DISGUISE.

Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 03:33 PM (CDT)

CHASE IS HOME!!!AFTER A NINE DAY STAY AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL WE ARE BACK AT HOME. EVERY DAY FOR THE NEXT 23 DAYS WE WILL DRIVE BACK AND FORTH FROM CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. HE WILL HAVE AN ANTIBIOTIC GIVEN THROUGH HIS INTERNAL PORT. THE IV WILL TAKE AROUND 2 1/2 TO 3 HOURS A DAY. HOME CARE WOULD NOT ADMISNISTER THIS IN OUR HOME DUE TO THE RISK INVOLVED WITH THE DRUG.
CHASE WILL BE PUT BACK ON CHEMO IN 7-10 DAYS. THE PERFECT WORLD IS NOT TO HAVE HIM ON BOTH AT THE SAME TIME, BUT HE NEEDS TO GET BACK ON CHEMO AND CONTINUE HIS ROADMAP FOR RECOVERY.
THE CULTURE ON HIS LUNG LESION IS NOT BACK YET. BUT THEY ARE TREATING HIM LIKE HE HAS A FUNGAL INVASION. WHICH MEANS HE HAS BREATHED AN INFECTION IN FROM THE AIR. THE DIFFERENT SOURCES MAY BE FROM CONSTRUCTION AREAS, FARMS, COMPOSITE PILES OF DEAD LEAVES OR SOIL, ETC, ECT, ECT. THIS WAS NOT GIVEN TO HIM BY ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. THIS TYPE OF INFECTION IS VERY HARD TO GET RID OF. THAT IS WHY HE WILL BE ON A FUNGAL ANTIBIOTIC FOR A LONG TIME TILL HIS BODY CAN FIGHT THIS OFF ITSELF.
THANKS FOR EVERYONES SUPPORT....THIS IS TRULY KEEPING HIS SPIRITS UP.

Friday, August 16, 2002 at 12:35 PM (CDT)

This past Monday (8/12/02)Chase went to the clinic to begin his next chemo/radiation session. The night before he was having some chest pain so an X-ray was taken when we got to the hospital. A fungus was found attached to his lung. The Doctors were able to go in with a scope and remove it and lab work was done to determine how to treat it. He will have to remain in the hospital for several weeks while he receives antibiotics and all radiation and chemo treatments will be put on hold for now. I will try to update this website as often as possible. We thank you for your support and prayers. We do read the messages, so keep logging on.

Tuesday, August 06, 2002 at 09:01 AM (CDT)

WE WENT TO AKRON CHILDRENS YESTERDAY FOR BLOOD WORK. ALL OF HIS BLOOD COUNTS WERE UP. WE LEFT FROM THERE AND WENT TO KENTON, OH TO SEE JENNA'S STATE SOFTBALL GAME. THEY LOST BUT IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE. CHASE HAS A WEEK OFF BECAUSE HE HAS FINISHED HIS FIRST PHASE OF INDUCTION. ON AUG. 12TH HE WILL START THE SECOND PHASE CALLED CONSOLIDATION. THEY WILL TREAT HIM WITH NEW CHEMOS AND SAME DAY START RADIATION. FROM AUG 12 FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS HE WILL HAVE RADIATION. KEEP CHASE IN YOUR PRAYERS AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

Thursday, August 01, 2002 at 03:00 PM (CDT)

TODAY WE WENT TO AKRON GENERAL AND CHASE GOT FITTED FOR HIS CRANIAL HEAD GEAR AND MARKED THE TESTIES. FROM THERE WE WENT TO AKRON CHILDRENS FOR A BONE MARROW AND SPINAL TAP. WE WERE HOPING HIS BLOOD COUNTS WOULD BE UP BUT THEY ARE DOWN. THIS IS NORMAL WITH ALL THE CHEMOS HE IS ON. THIS COUNT WILL GO UP AND DOWN THROUGH OUT HIS TREATMENT.DUE TO HIS LOW COUNTS HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO TO JENNA'S STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS. WE ARE SAD ABOUT THAT, BUT HAPPY TO SEE HIS CHEMOS ARE WORKING AND HE IS NOW IN REMISSION. ALL LEUKEMIA CELLS ARE NOW LESS THAN 5% IN HIS MARROW.
THANKS TO ALL HIS STRONG SUPPORT SYSTEM AND EVERYONES PRAYERS. KEEP PRAYING AND STAY TUNED.
