Sorry to hear that your first trip out West was for such sad circumstances but am glad to hear that you made the most of it. We never stayed at Sam's but we did find their "buffet"....5 years ago we thought it was the best one we'd frequented! Your trip sounded like an all-American adventure...one day I'd really like to drive out west and have lots of stops planned along the way but it will be a little zig-zag trip that will take quite a bit of time so for now we fly to AZ to enjoy the sunshine! I think the Route 66 trip is a "guy thing"....were you also "...standing on the corner in Winslow, AZ..."? Our cousin Erik's friend that was in the US last summer now wants to come back with 3 friends and rent Harley's and do the Route 66 trip! Anyway, sounds like you have seen a good chunk of our country! I think my favorite thing in the west is how far you can see with no trees obstructing the view!

Dear Hope: really enjoyed your vacation epistle. Gee, you must have gotten the love for writing from you Grandma B (perhaps Grandma F too--I knew your grandma's love for expressing herself, especially with the written word).
To me your writing wasn't long or boring at all. Sorry you weren't feeling well while on the trip. But I remember when we visited Tim and Sonya, the first thing we were told was to dring lots of water, because of the high elevation. Glad things turned out o.k. though, and know how you felt to be home again. I can't stay away from my home for more than l4 days--and that's pushing it a lot.

Hello Bertelsen's!
Am cleaning up my desk on Friday afternoon and was thrilled to see such good news today. I've been checking and was holding my breath since the last posting...can hardly imagine what a stressful few weeks you have been through!

Anyway, while I was cleaning up my desk, I found a sponsor sheet that had been sent to us by Pete's cousin in VA. He is a cancer survivor and will be involved in a "Relay for Life" Louisa County. Of course, we are sponsoring him but are also HONORING Hope with a luminaria at the High School track where the relay will take place. I am thrilled to be able to honor Hope again!

The bad news is...we won't see you at the Picnic tomorrow. We are heading to Arizona in the morning....after a poorly planned trip...booked it on the fly last December and afterwards realized that it was picnic weekend. I'll not do that again. Sorry, really sorry, that we won't see all the Bertelsen/son's this year! Hope you all have a great day and I know you'll all have great fun! Enjoy! Give everyone our love!

I was so glad to hear that your surgical procedure went so routinely and without any complications....you have had your share of those so you certainly deserved a smooth and uneventful end to that chapter!
