Journal

In September, Brady hit the four year anniversary mark of his injury. He went to see Coach Gingery, his high school football coach, as he has the last three years. As time goes on we run into different people who fill us in on little bits of what they know happened that night, that we had never heard. One gal told us that Doctor Tomes, the neurosurgeon who did the surgery that night, had just moved to town 5 weeks earlier. This was his first weekend on call at the hospital. The job he did that night impressed his partners. He had done this type of surgery three times before in other cities, but none of those patients had survived. We also heard that Brady lost 7 pints of blood that night. It's great to hear those stories, and know that through God all things are possible. He is a Lifesaver.

School is still going good, though I know Brady would say he is ready for a long break. He did say it's really hard for him. This quarter he is taking Health Foundations and Abnormal Psychology, and then doing his last required clinical.

As far as doing physical therapy on his own, it's not really a priority to Brady, and way down the list on things to do. Then, the Bioness brace he wears gave him a rash where the two electrodes touch, so he's back to the plastic brace for a while. Brady's been using a steriod cream to heal the rash, so he is facing roid rage, he says. HA!! It is helping though. We put off seeing his PT for a review until December. Brady is taking part in a research study at Madonna on the best types of exercise for a person who has suffered a brain injury. That just started last week, so we'll see what information they come up with.

Our prayers go out for Derek Ruth, a 12 year old Malcom boy, who sustained a brain injury playing football in early September. Our hearts go out to him and his parents and family. I remember those days so clearly, not knowing what the future could be. Please pray for his recovery.

Last week we had the pleasure of going to Midland College in Fremont and speaking to a class of students in teacher's college. This was a semester class on special education, and we, along with Coach Squiers spoke about brain injury. Brady told his story of his injury, recovery, and what it was like to go back to school again. Coach Squiers teaches Special Ed at Irving, and he gave the class tips on dealing with concussions and brain injury students. Coach Squiers was Brady's football coach his sophomore year. This class at Midland was a class his mom teaches, and to make it even more unique; Coach Squiers dad coached Brady's dad in football, and Coach Squiers grandfather had coached Brady's grandpa. We had a great time with the Coach and his mom, and the class laughed at most of Brady's bad jokes!

Thank you all for all the prayers you have given our family. We pray for all of you and blessings in your life. "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.." Isaiah 40:31.
