i can completely relate to your thoughts/ feelings as a Mum. we have just had our second child who after a stressful horrific period in neo natal has been given a diagnosis of a rare chromozonal condition. our son also had a difficult start in unit but does not have a condition though a part of his body is underdeveloped. we were devastated to be in the same position again, feeling helpless, desperate to protect them from other peoples ignorance. Also going through the whys!!! Similar to you and your family, we are actively involved in community so that our children will have hopefully a wide social network and feel accepted. wishing you all the best. love sarah

The trials of motherhood are there for every mother in the world. Having another child be mean, or stare or say something unkind rips at every mother's heart. I remember Jenn when you went to kindergarden and the kids you walked with told me your were crying at school when a boy pushed you down. The rage I felt ripped by heart wide open. Now as an adult I could not go to school and beat that boy (not that it didn't cross my mind) but I had to teach you how do deal with the situation. Still not an easy conversation to have with a child because I could not let my emotions play into how you would handle the situation. My advise was, if you remember, was to either push back or walk away BUT you were not to sit and cry. I did not want anyone to steal your tears. They belong to you and do not give them away to any stranger who does not deserve them. Now anyone who knows you can easily guess what path you choose to take. My Jenny walked away and the boy stopped pushing you. You walk away Jenn with your head up high knowing that you have the most wonderful gift of a child. Alli's love, her laughter, her hugs and her super personality are all a product of yours and Jim's training. Ashley makes into the mix as well and as a family, you are all a solid unit. How many families would love to have that!!! We accept what we can not change and work everyday to enlighten someone else in the accepting differences. I love you Jenn and am so very proud of the beautiful woman you have become. You give, all the time, and for that the world is a better place. Bismarck is a better town and North Dakota is a better place to live. You are making a difference. What better gift could a mother ask?

Jen...I remember all to well having those same feelings every year. As a parent we want what's best for our kids no matter what. Allison will leave an impression on the heart of every child in her class, some may not recognize it now but they will later in life. We just recently bumped into a girl who went to school with Christina and she told us how much she admired Christina for her courage and zest for life. Hi Allison and family - Just saw your wonderful MPS Awareness Day video, it brought tears to my eyes b/c you remind me so much of my daughter, Sarah, who has MPS1, and is also 9. She is not as verbal or advaced as Allison but it warmed my heart to see others out there who are so similiar. I will definitely be advocating MPS awareness both at Sarah's school and at her brother (age 6) and sister's (age 11) school this year. Sarah was diagnosed in Oct 2001 at 8 months old and, after having 2 bone marrow transplants and numerous donor leukocyte transfusions, was finally 100% engrafted in April 2004 w/ her sister's (an MPS1 carrier) cells. I look forward to reading your journal and possibly getting in touch w/ you and your mother in the future. Thank you so much for sharing. :)

Dear Allison- you do not know me, but I've very much enjoyed learning about you and you seem like a wonderful and strong young lady. My little boy, Landon (he's 3), has been diagnosed with MPS III. He also has a baby brother named Blake who Dr. Whitley also thinks has MPS. It is a very sad thing to think about, but seeing how strong and happy you are gives me so much hope that my sons can have a wonderful life too. We live in North Dakota too, what a small world! you where fantastic on your two videos on you tube! you just helped benjamin understand and his mum ( me..Rita) that he in addition to just have had a t tube put in his throat he needs his neck done too. Thank you allison for sharing this with us and for your help. Benjamin is in hospital still. he couldnt breathe and was helped by a new technique. What you showed on the first video started to happen in jan-feb. but because he also lost his breathing we had to fix that first. now i hope we can do the same a you have done princess!!

Jenn, Alli needs to heal...go with your instincts and let her be intubated as long as needed... this is where conflict arises with the understanding of the healing of our children. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I doubt Alli will remember any of this as she is going through some sedation stuff. She is strong. It sounds like it was just too much to have her breathing on her own?? Sometimes they just need a little more time. I will pray hard for you and for Alli's recovery.

We have decided to take Andrew off the diploma track to allow him to work at his level. It is the best thing for him but I am having trouble not seeing it as a huge defeat. I love the pictures! I am so sorry that Allison ever had to be intubated and that it has done such a number on her throat. I love that she says she is good and listens. Andrew couldn't say that. LOL He has had an FM system for two years now. We really like it. I hope it will work for Allison. I will pray for a healthy winter. Andrew just spent the day in the ER last week. It is scary to know how sick they can get so fast. He was up and RUNNING around the next day but I still haven't lost my fear. We have tough kids!!
