Hi Eccles family,
Glad to see you're all doing well and what a wonderful miracle Wren is. I can't believe how many years have gone by since we met. I came across Wren's picture the one where he is pointing up and thought my goodness it's been a while since I've checked on them. Glad to see he's doing great! Take care! It was good to see you and give you a hug yesterday morning. I hope that everything went well and that Wren is recovering well. I wanted to get back out to see you, but the day got pretty busy for me and I wasn't able to get back out there.

I am sitting in my very cluttered office, ignoring work that I need to be taking care of and marveling over the thought of Wren doing very normal little boy stuff. We are delighted that his surgery went well and he will soon be up and around makeing the rounds in the neighborhood looking for new treasuers. I miss seeing you guys but keep you all in my prayers.

Okay, Wren...how did the surgery go? Your mommy needs to update the website, so we can find out how you're doing!!! Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you, praying for you and your family, and am wishing you a speedy recovery from surgery (you know, so you can search out new guitars to swipe!!!)

Hi Erin! It was so good to see you and Halle at the park today! It doesn't seem possible that Wren is 5 years old already! My girls and I were just now talking about some of the first pictures you posted of Wren...esp the one where Michael's ring was around his wrist....amazing to see how God has worked in his little life...and that of your family! Take care...and be sure to tell your Dad and Mom "hello" from the Voges family:)

Happy birthday Wren! Wow...five years old. To God be the glory!!! May He bless you with 90 more HEALTHY years!!!! I hope you had a great and special day! Please make sure your mom prints out all of her journals from Caringbridge. See, she talks like a nurse already (bolusing through a g-tube...). We need these dated Caringbridge pages only to giggle over when she gets the piece of paper that says she is a nurse! Blessings!

I've been following your story for almost 5 years, and thank God for bringing your family to not only celebrate Wren's 5th birthday, but for giving it special meaning only you could enjoy and understand! :) So many blessings ... so many obstacles and hurdles. And He holds each of you in His hands all the way.
Happy Birthday, Wren!

Awww honey. What a sweet post. I know what you mean, I think the most sobering thing in my life is looking at the people we have met along our journey whose babies have passed away. Their names, faces, and stories are etched in my heart and I am SO thankful that we didn't have to be one of them. We haven't been to the dentist yet, but my baby does run the other way and cry when she sees the Chest Xray machine. She, however, much adores the stehoscope (I can't spell that!) I am so happy your schooling is going well. I've said it before, but you'd be an awesome nurse! And you know, firsthand, how amazing and how amazingly important nurses are. I still thank God for some of our nurses who I think kept us going some days...they are the cloest thing I've met to an Angel on earth. God has so blessed with you a heart for this and it's so cool to follow your journey! Love you guys!

Hey, Erin! Thanks for the great conversation the other night on the phone. Hearing from you and knowing that you're still a source of love and support for me means the world. I consider you, Mike, and the kids to be a part of my enormous extended family! Good luck with your Nursing classes...Human Anatomy really kicked my butt, so I hope you have better luck (and better grades!) than I did in that class. It wouldn't have been so bad, had my high school Science classes actually prepared me for college level work, but oh-well! What are your plans for Easter? I'll be home in Mkto. from the evening of the 19th until the day after Easter. I'll give you a call, and maybe we can get together for lunch or something, or at least for a little prayer/Bible study session. I think I could really use the help getting back in touch with God right now, as I'm having a hard time doing it on my own. Again, thanks for EVERYTHING!
Love ya!

Rochester, MN - Friday, March 14, 2008 7:21 AM CDT
Hey stranger! I can't believe we both decided to do nursing classes at the same time and sounds like your taking Anatomy now as well? We're doing the muscles test this coming Monday and wow how overwhelming it all is! We just started dissecting our cats last night and what an experience. I really had planned to start classes last Fall but with Anna's radiation treatment starting I put it off until this semester. I start the Nurse's Aid class in April so that means Monday-Thursday nights I'll be at class. Luckily, Nick and Anna are doing fine without me so far on Mondays and Wednesdays but April will be stressful.

It's great to see the updated pictures of your kids. It's amazing how far little Wren has come along, as well as Emma being the little mommy helper!

I better get back to work. Keep up the good studying habits and hang in there!

Erin- I know you pass on links occasionally of families that need prayers, and I wanted to pass on this one to you of a little girl who was born at 24 weeks a few days ago. Her and her mother are both clinging to life right now and need all the prayers they can get!! Their link is http://cfhusband.blogspot.com/ and the family is Nate, Tricia, and baby Gweneth. They have an AMAZING story (that is profoundly prolife :-).

Dear Erin--your kiddos are really cute. Out daughter Meagan (Daddy's little terrorist) is the same age as Haley so now we have one more reason to re hook up (plus the Jonkers upgraded their cottage--so come and bring the whole fam this summer. Tell everyone Jill and Darren said it's OK (Nani and Poppi are push overs for them, but skeptical of their Texas in law's wild thoughts. . .). Jennifer and I are intrigued about the move to nursing. We assumed after all you have gone through that some local university would have the good sense to give you an honorary doctorate in doctoring (much less nursing). I mean, can't you read all of their scribbled notes by now? Anyway, we miss you and love your updates. If you can ever come this way, we'd love to see you here as well. In Christ, Trey and Jennifer Loftin.

It's been such a long time since we've posted but we think of you all alot. I can't believe how much Wren looks like your husband and how big he's gotten. What a miracle he is! Erin, you do not have to have a laryngoscopy in order to get the school district to provide Wren with a means of communication. It doesn't matter why he can't speak (at the present time), if he can't, he can't and the school district is responsible for meeting his needs -- regardless of the cost. If you want the laryngoscopy for YOUR own information, then you should do it. But, it's not a requirement for the school district to do what it is supposed to do -- no matter what they tell you. School districts are notorious for trying to get out of providing services and equipment. I know you are an awesome advocate when it comes to Wren. Good luck and don't let the school district call the shots.

I check back here, ever so often, just to see how you all are doing. My kids will even ask, now and then, how Wren is. I used to check so often and we'd talk about him, the importance of prayer and the power of God.
I'm so happy to see that life has become so very normal for you :) and that you use your site let others know of people in need of prayer.
I hope this fall is finding everyone excited about school! We moved over to Rochester from Mankato so I could finish my RN degree... speaking of that.. :) are you still thinking of returning to school??

You know it's so true we hardly get together except at the NICU picnic..how funny is that! I guess we just get so busy in our daily lives....since we are both back to having normal lives without any equipment anymore. Thank the Lord for that. It was great seeing you guys. It's fun to read about you and your adventures. Try not to fight that sleeping thing too much. It helps you grow, you know. Hi Erin! Just thinking about that beautiful family of yours and hoping your Christmas was uneventful and blessed! Has Wren been home 3 years now? Doesn't seem that long ago that we were saying praising for his homecoming. Wow. Time flies huh? May 2007 bring you many glimpses of what a precious Lord we serve!

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't signed this in a long time, I do still check it almost every day. I always love reading what you write Erin....it's always uplifting. How far Wren has come....he is truely a miracle boy!! It was nice to see you at BW's. Don't know when we'll be back with 2 kids now. Babysitters are scarce around here. Wishing you all a Blessed Christmas season and a Joyous and Peaceful New Year!

Hi you.

I don't know how you do it Erin. You manage to be a kick-butt mom, bake cookies, work a night shift, and control an entire household (and then some) on what...an average of 3 hours of sleep per night?

Not to mention fitting in time to be a fantastic friend.

The sun is shining today - hope it shines extra bright right on you!

Love ya.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to wish you guys a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It's amazing how time does fly by. But, for the moment there are times, where you are wishing for things to change. It's hard to believe how far our little miracle babies have come. Just wanted to let you know that we took Wren off our links and added a few other children, who are in need of lots of prayers right now. Thanks for always praying for us.
God bless,

Hi Eccles family,

It's so nice to catch up on everyone in your last journal entry. I still can't believe how big the kids are now, especially Wren. But I'm sure you think the same about Anna. Oh how they grow up.

Glad to hear you all are doing well. We hope someday to meet up again. We hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love, The Nalevanko's

Hello Erin!
What a strong woman of God you are! Deana gave me the website and I loved getting updated about your family and the miracles in your life. Emma is a blessing to me and her classmates. I probably shouldn't type this, but she is one of the most popular kids in the class because they all know she has a kind heart but a lot of silly spunk in her too!:) I pray for our class many times a day and God has done some mighty good work! I love the pictures of your family and I know my mom misses seeing Wren as much! But congrats! A growing and handsome little boy! Have a wonderful weekend!

Erin,
I'm not sure if you remember us, it's been awhile. I've have thought about you so much since we've left Mankato and wondered how Wren was doing. I was "visiting" another friend on CaringBridge and was so excited to see you still had your sight up. Also, could not be more excited about Halle! Emma is still a beautiful little girl like her mama! Blessings to you and your family. You are such a Godly woman of grace. I use you as an example of grace often in my Bible studies.

Tube free. Now aren't those words a g-tube mom waits to hear...and when she does hear them she wonders if she needs her hearing checked! I just got word last week that we are going to be g-tube free soon also....possibly this week. Knowing that it was time put some weird emotions on the table for sure!! I check on Wren and your family often and have said many prayers for all of you and will continue to do so! What a great bunch of kiddos you have been blessed with!

Erin, your thoughts are so profound for such a young person. I'm sure the last 3 years have helped get you to where you are emotionally and spiritually, but it is seldom that you hear such wisdom from such a young person.

I'm a mother of four, grandma of six and just sent the eldest grandchild off to college, but you bless me with your writings as you remind us all of the unlimited love and grace of our loving heavenly Father shown to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. May God continue to bless you as a human being, wife, mother and grandmother.

Erin, you are everything I ever wished for in a daughter. Constantly compassionate and patient beyond anything I would have ever dreamed of. Talented? Your ability to juggle home/family/job plus exercising your incredible gift of music is unprecidented in my books. I am so grateful God gave me you. I could not love you any more than I do right now. Thank you for your constant watchcare over my precious grandchildren. When I scoop them up and hug and kiss them, they remind me of you and Michael. I feel like I have a treasure far beyond what I could have ever thought of or asked for. God has been so wonderfully faithful to our family, I just get super blessed every day when I think of how His hand has been constantly covering you! Have a wonderful day, daughter, you are blessed among all women and I pray God would heap blessing over blessing on you today (Father, open the windows of heaven and pour it down, press it out and shake it together, and spill it out on all those around her!!)

Luke 6:38 - "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure withall, it shall be measured to you again.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIN! I trully hope that today was not as crazy for you as your past days have been.

Hope the lice is under control - we have not had the pleasure of dealing with it yet, although I am sure we will get our turn. But have heard "horror" stories about those little buggers!

I would like a chance to "pick" your brain sometime soon about vacation bible school music. I am in charge of planning our vbs at Christ the King next year and would like to make some changes to how ours has been run and really like some of the things that happen at Covenant. So when you have like a sec maybe you could give me a call (345-7600) or I will try and get in touch with you soon. Life just got crazier for us, I am working at the Y in childwatch mon. wed. fri. mornings and with school starting soon. Steph all day in 1st and CJ is preschool 2 mornings. It will be interesting to keep everything under control.

Anyway, hope you had a FANTASTIC birthday - you deserve it. And Mike is so sweet to post it for us!

Erin, your house sounds like ours! I'm relieved to read your entries about battling sickness because that is all we seem to do around here too! I don't think more than a few weeks go by where we don't pick up some virus. It makes me smile to hear that someone else is battling the viruses and grateful for a healthy week here and there. This stage will pass soon enough and the next thing you know we'll be the ones sick...from worry about our teenage kids and the choices they make, hoping they are making the right ones. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs. It makes me smile at life!

Oh Erin, I was crying for you and for poor Halle.... what a week you had. Praying this week brings much healing, a little more sleep and a little more peace of mind. My 13 year old had the viral menigitis when he was 3, very scary. I ran like a race horse when they tapped him. I felt like I would scare him worse by being emotional in the room with him. Keeping your family in our prayers. Not that we'd want you in Rochester for that reason but if you ever are be sure to call some Rochester "Wren readers" we'd love to see you in person :)

Erin,
I was so relieved that Halle was able to come home on Saturday. Viruses are such touch things to deal with since one can only let them run their course. I pray that both Wren and Halle will return to health soon and that the only things you will have to contend with are the "normal naughty things of childhood"! God bless all of you!! Dee

Dear Erin and Family,
I haven't written in the guestbook for a long time, but I still look in on you guys every few days. Tonight I decided to hop on quick and see if you had posted recently. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Halle was in the hospital. The scary thing is, my husband and I had our 4 year old Tyler in to see Dr Davis for a check up on Wednesday afternoon, and she came to apologize that we'd have to wait because she needed to "tap" a baby. We said to take her time, we were in no hurry at all, and that was much more important than just a little check up we were there for. Through the conversation, we learned this was the 2nd baby that day she had to do that on, and so in reading your entry we figured we had to be waiting while she worked on Halle. Reading your entry tonight, I was so happy that you're all home and things are getting better.
Know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers, and even though I'm sure a lot of people don't sign the guestbook everytime they check in, we are still out here thinking and praying about you.

That is so sweet, a laundry loving baby...maybe she will be the one to help you take care of all those wonderful woman jobs around the house. Clarisse my 4 1/2 year old had her tonsils out a year ago or so and the entire time she never actually experienced any pain. I kept her pain medications going like clock work and she had no complaints at all. I think her only memory of it was that she didn't like the stinky mask that they put on her to knock her out and she did throw once a little bit (not much in there since they haven't eaten in a while) when we got home, but that was it. So, she very well, might not experience any bad pain from it. In fact my 3 year old son Duncan just had his out a week and a half ago and the only time he experienced pain was when I didn't keep up with his pain meds. So, completely in my court. If he got upset he would cry and make it hurt a little, but he is entirely more emotional about life than Clarisse, so it isn't a wonder. But anyway, your little girl may not have any pain memories from her experience. Having them out young is so wonderful. I had mine out 2 years ago as an adult and after experiencing how aweful it is for an adult, I wish I would have had them out as a little one. What a difference in the experience! So we told our little ones that they were getting their tonsils out, but since they never really got it, it wasn't a big deal to be honest with them. The fun thing was since Clarisse had such a good experience, she was very excited and encouraging Duncan about his getting out. It was so sweet! Kids sure are fun and resilient! Anyway, thought I would share my two bits about my experiences. One funny note, when I brought Duncan in and the doctor saw that his tonsils where a 4 and needed out, he looked at my little 8 month old and said, "you're next!" No doubt, our family history doesn't lend to him getting to keep his unless he is a miracle! Anyway, Lord Bless Your Family!

Hard to believe sometimes ha?
I think we, as mom's of these special babies, have the God given gift of really pondering the memories and treasuring them in our hearts, don't you think?
I praise Him and thank Him that He chose Gil and I to be Emily's parents.
I wouldn't trade it for anything!!!
Love you!

loved the pictures... I just did that with my son who turned 5 on the 27th of April. I went made two photo collages of him from birth to now. With his "normal" stuff it was a journey to think and look back, what a story Wren has as he grows. God Bless :)

Boy oh Boy! Wren has sure changed a lot in 3 years. All kids do, but he started off so small and then look how chubby he was by 1 and how now at 3 he is a shorter version of his father! I can't get over how much Wren and Mike look alike. It's great!!

So glad to know that things are going well. Hopefully it will get nice out and stay that way so everyone can get outside and use up some of that energy! Continued prayers and blessings on all of you. In His name, Justine

Happy Birthday, Wren.

I'm so glad I found your CB site on your bday! I was browsing the trach babies on the tracheostomy.com site and came across yours. I'm so glad you're doing so well. I've had a bad day, but reading about how you've thrived has put a smile on my face at the end of a long day.

My baby, Malcolm, has a trach. He is 14 months. He was 14 weeks premature. His CB sites are:

Erin,
May you continue to treasure all the memories of your grandfather and share the stories with your children as they grow older. My children love to hear of their great-grandparents and how they touched our lives young and old. My daughter's are 13 and 5 and my son is 12...they all can tell you about their great-grandparents and some they have yet to meet personally.
Thank you for sharing the picture of your livingroom/kitchen area last week! It made me feel so warm to know that I am human!...yes, my home looks like that too with three children unless it is our "cleaning day" of the week:)! That took a lot of you to share!

I love what you wrote about Grandparents. Mine also are so important to me. This year they have really aged and I count each moment we are together as a treasured memory.I have the privaledge of all of my children knowing them and likely remembering them when they are no longer with us. That's wonderful that Emma will have those memories and maybe Wren too. Good thing we can share all our memories with the little ones that don't get the chance to experience them first hand.
Grandparents...aren't they wonderful.

As much as I don't like to see you suffer loss of sleep, I am glad to hear the Wren is being Wren and acting his age. The big boy bed switch can be tricky. I think all kids must be getting "srping fever" because we are having sleeping troubles too.

Eccles family-
Congratulations! How wonderful to have a beautiful daughter to add to your growing family. I was so excited when I heard the news of your newest addition. You two must have some awesome genes. You have beautiful children. You have a wonderful family, and I pray that things will go smoothly for you at Fairview. I can't wait to meet Halle. What are Wren and Emma thinking of their new sister? Does Wren like his new role as a big brother? Halle will have awesome people to have as role models for her. Your Godly example will shine through her when she is older. I'm so thankful that things are going well for Erin and her recovery. I pray the same for little Halle. She is absolutely beautiful. You should be proud parents. I know that you will lean on God in everything, and I believe that he will bless you greatly. The pictures that you put on here are so precious. The love you have for her is amazing, and the picture of you kissing her is priceless. I pray that Halle will have a short stay in the cities, and she will be where she belongs (as you would say Erin) in no time. I enjoy to read your updates. Even when things are difficult for you, you always give God the glory He deserves, and you always try to look at the positive. This is really the type of attitude that you need during times like this.

When you are able to bring her home, I would love to bring you a meal. This was done for us when we brought our girls home. I was so appreciative to all those who did that. I would like to "serve" your family. Making a meal is probably the last thing on your mind. God bless and thank you for your encouraging updates.

Hoooray for Halle!!! You've been on my mind 24 hours a day, girl! Praying for a very short week's stay, so that sweetie pie can just come right on home with you. One thing we know for sure about our God is that He's a God who not only redeems a situation, but wholly restores, upholds, heals, and brings glory. This is our prayer for the little "road bumps." It's also what we pray for you and Michael. I know it was so hard for you to pass her along and put her on that chopper. So may the day be SOON SOON SOON that she's back where she belongs as you so sweetly put it. Jesus shower your grace on this (not so little, anymore ;-) family as they see to the needs of this sweet precious gift of a girl. Uphold Mike and Erin, Emma and Wren. We know that you'll not only meet each and every one of their needs, but also go above and beyond their expectations during this transition time. Thank you for this sweet girl, Lord. She's already in our hearts. :-)

Love you guys -

Erin & family, I've been following your story for more than 2 years (we're friends of Nick, Kari & Anna Nalevanko). I've been following your latest pregnancy pretty closely, too, as I'm also expecting and due April 5. It seems as you've moved from Wren's medical needs, God has placed your own health and the health of your unborn baby at the forefront. Our prayers are with your entire family that the next few/several weeks go smoothly and the baby stays INSIDE to grow and develop as necessary. May God fill your heart and spirit with peace and comfort as you rest these next few weeks. Thank you for all your inspiring words and open heart concerning your family. Wanted to let you guys know that I still chick in on you guys often. So glad that there's not a lot to post about. I remember the days where there were very few days when there wasn't something new going on to post about. Now instead of posting about the latest treatment they are doing, you're posting about getting rid of all the machines and "stuff". So awesome. Glad to hear that you are all doing so well and that baby girl Eccles is staying put in her momma's belly where she belongs at this point. I'm very excited for the day that I hear about your arrival, but don't want to hear about it any day too soon! :) Love you all!

Hi Eccles Family! Just wanted to say "hi"! We still think about you guys and pray for you often, and check the site all the time! Glad to see everything is going well with you (especially Wren) and are excited about the new Baby E! Another great addition to your beautiful family. God bless!
