Great to hear the news that you are finally healing and slowly getting better. God DOES answer prayer, and I know that He has received a lot of them in your behalf. May not seem like it now, but life WILL return to normal. I just returned from my two week mission trip to Russia and it was great! I played all kinds of sports with orphan kids for two weeks and made it fine - just one year away from the same transplant that you had.I pray that in time you,too will physically be able to do whatever it is that you want to do!

God bless you and your wonderful family......

I feel so blessed to have met you, visited with you, cared for you and prayed for you. Have a fabuous vacation in July! Mark and Jen,
It seems entirely inadequate to say, but I feel as though I have taken this journey with you. Through challenges and triumphs, I have continually prayed for God's intervention, and thanked him so many times for his healing power. The road has indeed been long, winding and bumpy. All the while, the two of you stood tall, representing tremendous courage and devotion to God and each other. I have been inspired by both of you to live my life fuller and to love and appreciate my family and my gifts even more.

Dear Jen and Mark, I dont think we can express our joy and relief any better than your Aunt Ginny:
" We will never know why this happened.
And we pray it is all said and done.
But there is beauty in all of this madness
When multitudes are inspired by one."

The Caring-Bridge has truly lived up to its name providing us news of the long road to recovery that you have travelled. It is truly amazing that thru all the ups and downs you found time to keep the news flowing. Please take care of yourselves and enjoy the summer.
Love

Jen and Mark - I've been remiss at visiting the site but...was SOOO glad to hear the news that Mark is cancer free!!!! Cannot imagine any better news :)
Now I know that you will learn to adjust (or reajust) to the family dynamics and be able to do MORE than "just getting by." As I often say...all good things in all good time -- it WILL come. Continue to have faith!

Happy Belated National Cancer Survivor Day!!!! (it really was yesterday). Mark-I am so glad that you are doing better. Adam and I were so happy to hear that you were wrestling with the kids on the floor at the cabin on Memorial weekend. Wish we could have expierenced that, but weknow that we will get a chance to do that again, as you are only getting stronger everyday. Keep up the good work!!

Hi guys! Hope no news is good news...we missed you at the Wabun Picnic shindig today, but between the weather being a little iffy and Girl Scout camp all day, it's understandable if a picnic seemed like a little too much on top of it all. Bruce and Amy were there and we were thinking of you all and hoping things are progressing well and that Mark is getting stronger and that life is approaching some semblence of sanity for your family. Sorry to hear about Quaker's recent diagnosis. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.

Hope you are recovering from all the set-backs and gaining strength every day. Also thought I'd let you know that my bone marrow biopsy of 5/16 was all clear - NO CANCER! See, it really does work! I'm leaving 6/11 for two weeks in Russia on a mission trip. Almost exactly one year ago I was starting my SCT - amazing to even consider it possible. You'll get it all back too, I'm sure.

God bless you and your family.

Dear Jen, Mark, and Kids,
I am so happy to hear the great news!!!! Mark has been in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be forever. Took me a long time to log onto your site, for you know how easily I shed tears. You are all so strong and such an inspiration to everyone. It's just so good to hear you can breathe a sigh of relief.
Saw some of the ECFE group last week and hope you will be able to join us at the next get together. We'd all love to see you and thinking you may need a short break away. Completely understand if you'd rather be with your family though since your family time is so precious. I'm trying to plan something for the near future. Hoping it can be just the moms for a nice relaxing chat with some dinner, too. I'll get some dates out here soon and we'll see what works best.
Overjoyed for your entire family!!!!!!!!!!!!

I trust that your not writing in the last few days is a sign that you, Mark and the kids have had a restful few days and that things are looking up. In that spirit, look for another family card in the mail this week. I'll mail it tomorrow.

Although you are always in my thoughts and prayers, tomorrow you, Jen, will especially be there -- since it's your birthday!!! Hope this anniversary of your birth is a start of a year of healing and renewal.

Thank you for taking the time and energy to update the rest of us. We do so appreciate knowing what's going on and it helps us pray in the direction that's most needed. I'm very encouraged to hear mostly great news from the Mayo team. Keep your hopes up and faith alive that the small thing they did find is going to turn out to be nothing. We will turn our prayers en mass in that direction. In the meantime, don't feel bad about keeping on the doctors. They can't possibly know as much about Mark as you do; they don't see him on a daily basis and don't know what's normal for him. The doctors all mean well and do the best possible job they can, of course, but you are Mark's secret weapon, Jen, never forget it. Your tenaciousness will help more than hinder. We continue to think about you here in beautiful Washington state. Hugs to everyone! Lots of love, Lisa

Thank you for exerting the effort to write after today's trip to Mayo. I can't even imagine how frustrating this is for you, or any of this, for that matter. I am pleased that you were able to vocalize some of your anger to the doctors. While I know they are doing everything possible, they are being paid a lot of money and they should be able to stand the heat.

I will keep praying and my own support group will do so, as well. Although the scan showed something, I truly believe that Mark is in recovery. I also believe that if the doctors were alarmed they would have suggested immmediate action. Take the success in micro-moments.

Love,

Mark and Jen - just wanted you all to know that I'm still keeping up with you frequently and praying for you daily. I know you've had a tougher time with your transplant than I did with mine. Hi there, Just read the April 15th journal entry. Jen, I wasn't surprised to hear that you haven't been feeling more happy or joyful. After this long, hard journey where you've had to maintain an amazing level of strength, I imagine it would be very hard to let that go right away. You've been preparing yourself for the worst and surviving throught the worst right along with your husband for a long time. You can't expect yourself to immediately feel all bright and cheerful at the first sign of something positive. Besides, I don't think it's in our genes to do that. "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst" is way more in our genes than blind optimism. Embrace your genes! They've seen you through a lot and will continue to. Cut yourself a break and allow yourself to feel whatever you feel. Just continue to talk to your friends, family, and professional help if necessary about what you're feeling to give yourself perspective and you'll be just fine. You're hard enough on yourself on a normal day, so don't get down on yourself for not feeling the "appropriate feelings." That aside, I'm glad Mark is still doing well and that you're both getting a chance to enjoy your kids. Even though it's tiring, it's also good for the soul. Keep your chins up and hang in there. We're all thinking about you at the Wolff household. Love, Lisa

What a wonderful way to begin a day! I open your website first before I do anything else and I was thrilled with your news. Yes, our prayers are being answered and we will continue to keep praying. I know that this isn't over yet.

Good luck, Jen, as you go back to work. I can only imagine how divided you are between your "ought to's" and I think you are handling them with amazing strength.

How very wise of you to hire a Nanny. Hopefully, that will relieve some of your anxiety about being pulled in so many directions. And I know your support group will continue to be there for you, too.

Love

It's been 60 days?! I'm sure it hasn't gone by particularly fast for you guys but it sure has on our end. It sounds as if the funeral for Grandma Alice was peaceful and a good chance to visit with everybody. Grandma Alice would've enjoyed herself immensely, I'm sure. I hope Mark's weekend home was also peaceful. I continue to pray for his continued progress toward recovery. I have faith he will make it in spades! I'm looking forward to hearing about the days when he's back at work, feeling normal, and sharing jokes with his buddies at the fire house again. In the meantime, you can count on the rest of us supporting you along the way in whatever way we can. Take care and God bless, Lisa

Mark and Jen,
I wanted to take a moment and again tell you how impressed I am with you and your family in how you continue to fight such a struggling battle, WOW is all I can say. A message for you Mark from a recruit, I am nothing short of excited to meet you, and hopefully begin to learn as much from you about this fire fighting scene and life as I have begun to learn from everyone else on this department. The things I have heard it sound slike you are nothing but an amazing person that has encouraged so many. I'm hoping that soon I can enjoy a lunch with you and begin to learn from you as I have been the others here, I can't think of a shift or a day at the hall that I have not heard your name come up, what an inspiration to all of us. Jen... I don't even know where to begin, I know you don't know me but I read your posts to the journal as frequent as they come and man, I can't say enough how strong you are, what an ecouragement you are to your family and most importantly to your kids. Keep fighting the good fight, we ALL are pulling for you!!!!!

Saying goodbye to your Grandma Alice will be a tough thing but you are right that she would have agreed with the decision your Dad and Duane made. She lived a long full life and I'm glad your kids got a chance to know her.

I'm so sad for all of you with your loss of Alice, she was incredible---but understand letting her go-----it is something that just needs to be done and to be able to recognize the time to do it....it is something we need to do, is to get the living will papers and get them filled out so noone else has to make the decision and have to feel quilt!!!! I was surpised when Mark was released to go home and not surprised that you had to take him back, it just seemed a little premature---but I bet everyone was tickled to have him home, even if it was for a short time....hope this new tactic will help----do they ever run out of options there????? We are thinking of you often (and in our prayers)----those of you that are not sick, really need to take care of yourselves---I can't imagine the exhaustion!!!! I admire the stamina of all of you and how focused you are!!!! Keep up the good work! We love you all and want all of this to reach a wonderful conclusion!!! Love, Peggy

Happy Easter! I'm sure the entire Schmaed family is so happy to be together for the holiday --- a wonderful gift for all of you.

Schmaed, I meant to tel you that my brother Joel got married last Saturday. In my toast, I quoted you from when Sue and I got hitched: "Marriage isn't always easy, but it's worth it." The married folks agreed. I also read "Forever Young".

That song continues to have so much meaning for us. I send it out to your family on this Easter: "may God bless and keep you always."

Mark and Jen... I've been reading Jen's updates daily since your dad (Jim) gave Joni and I this web address. You have no idea how many people have been, and continue to pray for you. (Perhaps you do!) I think back to our growing-up years on Edgewater, riding bikes together, Joni and I playing "Barbie Dolls" with Joelyn, almost being like brothers & sisters rather than just pals to play with. My heart breaks at what you have had to endure, but I am confident in the power of prayer and that our loving God will see you through. My entire family sends their love to you. Hopefully we'll see you back visiting at Shepherd again soon. How simply wonderful that you're back at home now. We'll continue to pray for your entire family. Love, Sandi (Roth)

"There is a light in this world..a healing spirit much stronger than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force when there is suffering, too much pain....And suddenly the spirit will emerge through lives of ordinary people, and answer in extraordinary ways. God speaks in the silence of the heart, and we listen."
God continues to hold you in his caring and compassionate arms.

Hi Jennifer-
I read your journal every day. We continue to pray for you and your entire family and you're also on the prayer chain at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. It must be comforting to know that in addition to God's strength and compassion, you have the prayers of countless people throughout the world on your behalf.

We are sorry to hear that 'things' are not going as smoothly as everyone had hoped. We know it will turn around. Please keep that strong attitude that has served you well. Again, thank you for the continuous up-dates, we are praying for you.

Mark and Jen - Sorry things are not going as smoothly as they could. Stay strong and hang in. Months from now when you're in total remission and back to work and enjoying your normal life (as I am), you'll look back and know that it was worth everything that you had to go through.
My sister Melanie from Minneapolis is visiting down here this week and is disappointed that she missed the big snow, but March Madness is huge here with UK in the NCAA's and she's glad to be here for it!
Still praying for you both daily here in Kentucky......

Hi Mark and Jen, I'm thinking about you and hoping and praying for the best for both of you. I keep abreast of your journeys to health and wellness frequently, (most of the time withour signing the Guestbook) but wanted to say hi today. I am sorry to read the latest news but pray for the best. Here's an old saying that might apply , "it's always darkest before the dawn". I hope and pray the dawn comes soon and I wish you both continued courage.

Mark,

I received this website address tonight from your dad. I just wanted you to know that I think of you so often, and have kept you in my thoughts and prayers! Your dad told me tonight that you have been doing better, and might come home on Sunday. That's wonderful! Keep it up, Mark!
It's so nice to be going to the same church as your mom and dad, so they can keep Sandi and I posted on your progress!

Hi you two ~ it's just me again ~ your 'little' cousin
[which, of course, applies to my age only and not anything else] :)

I just wanted to share a website with you that I recently discovered. I love to listen to Christian music and find it a wonderful source of inspiration, hope, comfort and peace. This website has some very nice music I thought you may want to check out when you're just 'hanging out' at your apartment waiting to finally get back home.

Anyway, if you are interested the web address is "AllWorship.com". I really enjoy the 'Praise and Worship' which you can simply "click to listen".

That's all ~ I hope you enjoy it if you decide to check it out!

Today is a new day!

Mark & Jen,

I check in for your consistent updates and appreciate knowing how you are both doing. It is always great to hear about Mark's improvements! You are in my thoughts so often, Mark, and I am remembering and praying for you! You are an incredible person (as so many others have previously testified) and you remain a great inspiration to me with your continued strength and courage!

I understand all too well about depression, Jen ~ hang in there and try not to beat yourself up about it ~ you are an exceptional person and you're doing a wonderful job juggling everything that has been put on your plate. I've often heard that God will not give us more than we can handle and I'm sure you can identify with what my responses has been at times to that concept ~ "I think He has way too much faith in me!" or I look up to the skies and say, "You're pushing it!" :)

We don't feel we are as strong as He knows we are especially in the face of great struggle, and yet, somehow, we carry on and make it through ~ day by day!

My heart goes out to you both, and Jen my offer still stands - even though you have a wonderful support system already in place I am here for you if you ever want to talk ~ I'm a phone call away ~ (651)426-8046. I'm around during the day alot more lately (became unemployed in mid-January) so feel free to try me anytime!!

Keep the updates coming and know you are in my thoughts and prayers . . .

God's love and blessing always . . .

Mary

Those central line (port, right?) infections can be nearly impossible to clear sometimes, so I would agree that getting the port out is probably a good move. Having peripheral IV's placed is no picnic either, but hopefully you're near the end of having daily infusions of blood, fluids and antibiotics. Hello Mark and Jen (Jen, I've sent a couple emails to your AOL address, one regarding blood donation) ... I'm sorry to hear you are still feeling so downright cruddy. I am happy though to hear that your blood counts are all up and looking good. So, when those antibiotics finally kick in you should start to feel a whole lot better. I'm looking forward to hearing about that when it happens VERY SOON :o) I went to KSTP and watched the news story. I was so proud of both of you (and those wonderful firefighter friends of yours, God bless 'em) and my eyes filled with tears each time I watched it. Keep up the good fight, Mark. hi -----I read each entry with great anticipation---same old stuff is good!!!I spent an hour this a.m. just trying to get a dr. appt. to renew my prescriptions----the process was very annoying beng the new person in town....Jack is finished painting the garage and went to buy #s and letters for the back so it now can be inspected...he was measuring for siding this morning. This week-end, Becki came down and the 3 of us spent Sat. at the scrapbook store being very busy all day and evening...we are trying to get together once a month to do this, but it was 3 months ago we did it for the first time...Lisa brings her stuff here sometimes and she "scraps" and Maddie plays with Grandpa and does her coloring etc. etc. Jen, I admire your courage of just caring for your family as best you can and not thinking of your own needs for awhile...I also admire the amount of courage Mark has for meeting each day and experience with good humor and positive thinking...It sounds like your medical people are also postive and uplifting and very encouraging....and I imagine they like having a patient that has a sense of humor and his wife who wants to know all the details---keep up the good work!!!! Mark,
I heard from Brian after he talked to you last night that things are looking up, great news! I got these "jokes" today and two of them made me think of you, enjoy and keep the calorie count up.

"Give me a sentence about a public servant," said a teacher. The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked. Sure," said the young boy confidently. "It means carrying a child."

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck". A third child brought the argument to a close..."They use the dogs", she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."

Hi Mark (and Jen),

Thinking about both of you today. A day doesn't go by that the two of you are not part of discussions around the office or fire station. The excitement is building for the Stairclimb Challenge. They wanted me to go along (not to do the stair climb, just to change the air bottles for them on the 40th floor). I think they know I could not climb DOWN 68 flights of stairs in gear, let alone go up. But, alas, I'll be out of town for the weekend... at least that's my story... and I'm sticking to it!

Mark and Jen-
I made a deposit into the fund and wanted you to know where it came from. The ECFE staff did a little fundraiser for you this winter. Every time a staff member wore jeans to work, they put $5.00 into an "Ants in the Pants" game in the office. Several staff members even had little heart pins that they would wear (with their jeans) to show that they were doing this for Mark.
There are positive thoughts and prayers pouring out to you from more people than you probably realize. Pastor George, others from church, ECFE staff and families, and our families (who just know of you through us) ask about you and send their prayers often. And you are always in ours.
Take care!!

Mark and Jen,
When I think of what you have been through, are going through now and still have to face, a quote from Robert Schuller comes to mind. "When faced with a mountain, I will not quit! I will keep on striving until I climb over, find a pass through, tunnel underneath, or simply stay and turn the mountain into a goldmine with God's help." I see this happening in the way you face what comes each and every day. Robert Schuller also said "God will have the last word, and it will be good." Keep your chins up and your eyes on the prize. You both inspire me to be a better wife, a closer friend and to not sweat the little stuff.

May God's Blessings and Mercy rain down upon you,

I thought about the trust and support you have from your fellow firefighters and was thinking that couldn't be possible from a prisoner, as I know your bond with the Roseville firefighters goes way beyond the work itself. Thinking of you -- even while watching TV.

Mark & Jen,
Unbelievable!!! That is the only way to describe the two of you and what you are going through. Your strength & attitude are for (lack of a proper word in the English language), REMARKABLE! I agree with the thought that if the Chemo did that to your hair in one day you can only imagine what it is doing to the cancer. Hang on to that thought. The day will come when this will all be a distant memory.
May you both continue to find the strength & courage to attack each day. Take solice in your huge support group.

Hi Jen and Mark...wow-Mark, sounds like you had a tough day yesterday. One of our delivery guys that delivers to me at work the other day gave me a quote after I told him my day was going bad. He said, "you have to have some bad days to have some great days." So keep that in mind, and I know you will have some great days ahead. I also know that you would be feeling like you could run a marathon had you eaten a Dairy Queen shake. But I guess I can just accept that you ate a Culvers shake, just this once!! Take care Mark. Hey Mark and Jen,

The Chief is so right when he says you guys are inspiring. Every morning I start my day by checking the site to see how you're doing. Jen, you wrote, "we're getting through it.." It may feel like you're just "getting through it" but how I see it both of you are setting the standard on how to handle extroardinary adversity with strength, courage and grace. Its humbling for me and helps to put things in my life into perspective. Ok, enough of that...Mark, keep being a good patient...I miss you and I'll see you back home soon. I'll take you to Culvers for a shake.

Mark - my sister works with your friend Kari Logan at C.E.L. Public Relations in Minneapolis and she asked that I contact you. I had 4 aggressive rounds of chemo - and then an autologous SCT last June/July for Mantle Cell(non-Hodgkins)Lymphoma at Vanderbilt in Nashville. I spent 6 long weeks there. From scanning your journal entries, looks like you're going through pretty much exactly what I did just a few short months ago. You are correct in that this is the toughest part of all the treatments that I had - waiting to engraft and the low counts. I just wanted to let you know that there is light at the end of the tunnel! After my counts started to come up (about two weeks after transplant) I started feeling human again. By mid-August I was back at work (desk job)and feeling pretty good. I'm now pretty much back to normal with some fatigue. In fact, just today I got the results from my bone marrow biopsy of 02/02/05 and I'm still clean - complete remission! I believe that my faith in God's plans for my life, and lots of prayers from friends pulled me through. I'll be praying for you. If you ever need to talk to someone who's been where you have, I'd be glad to help in any way that I can. My phone # - 270-554-7034.

Chin up - you'll make it just fine!

I wanted to send a personal note myself (previous one was from Molly) Reading these last few days of the journal is seeing the light at the end of a very long tunnel. It is amazing how the stem cells producing within the same body intrisically know how to "go to work" to repair the damage another part of the body has endured. Mark enjoy the new day that is yours to celebrate! I am missing you all very much :)

Dear Jen , Mark and family, every day is an answer to prayer and so we will continue to pray for healing and accepting the answers---I'm not sure how people get through this kind of situation, but they do!!! and thank God for that.....yesterday, we had Maddie for most of the day as Lisa and Oliver are sick with colds, sinus infections or much worse---Lisa decided to go to the Dr. but Oliver didn't buckle under to his distress---so Lisa wanted to do something for us and I said that they did something for us and that was letting us have Maddie for the day---she is fun to have around---when Jaime had the chicken pox and his dad needed day care---Jaime came here for the week---that was fun, too and both Jaime and Maddie had fun playing together ---it is nice when they go home, too, but they are such a joy to our lives.....thinking of all of you often and send our prayers....love, Peggy & Jack

Mark & Jen ~ I have not written in a while, however I do 'check' on you with all of the updates written to keep us in touch with how you are doing. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you as you carry yourselves through this part of life's journey. You are both very strong (and probably tired of being 'strong' ~ I know), wonderful people and God will carry you through this ~ some way ~ some how ~ all you have to really carry is your faith, belief, hope and, of course, your great attitudes which are truly an inspiration to me . . . the sense of humor is a must, too! Without that I don't know where I would be ~ to be able to smile, laugh and find a bit of humor in even the toughest of moments truly does help to lighten even the heaviest load! Take care of you . . . God will do the rest . . . All my love and prayers, Mary

Hi Mark,

I held it off as long as I could... not having a fire until you returned. This week it sort of got out of control. We provided mutual aid to Lake Johanna on Monday for a house fire and then had one of our own last night. I tried, but the fire gods had other plans. I'd like to say we'll hold off on all extrications for your return, but I'm afraid I'd jinx us. So I'll go as far as to say we'll hold off on all tank farm fires until you get back on the job. :-) Rich

There seems to be a lack of recent U.S. Bank input into this guestbook so I'll try and fill in a little. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Reading your journal every day, I am amazed at the love and support that you get on a daily basis. Its heartwarming to know that you can count on family and friends to step up and help with life's little (and not so little) details.

Remember the story of the footprints in the sand. In our darkest moments, when we think we're walking alone, we're being carried in Jesus' love and mercy. Its that peace that helps us get through whatever challenges come our way.

Wishing you continued blessings from God.

At every fire call, every staff meeting, every drill we're talking about you...and its all good. I guess we kinda like having you here and we miss you, especially Andy. He keeps throwing his Ladder 28 jibberish at me, but I can't give it back the same way you do.

And another thing...you've been spending an awful lot of time with those Rochester firefighters and we're getting a little jealous here at Station Two. You might want to remind them that you're coming home in a few weeks so they don't get their feelings hurt too bad when that day comes. (Aren't those guys just great?!)

Hi shmeds,

I'm a good friend of Jim and Sue Christiansen. I don't think I've seen you two since their wedding. Mark, of course, won the race at Hamlin. Yes, it was Jim, Mark, Schmitty and Jim's lil brother I believe. We ran this race at the Hamlin University track. I can't remember the name of the race. It was the night of Jim's bachelor party. If you remember the name of the race email it to me, will you Mark? It had something to do with a mile. The only thing that I know for sure is that you won. I was last but laughing all the way and then some.

Take care and with God's good grace you will win this race too and with big smile on your face that spells "I won" all over it.

Your friend, in Christ,
Brian D. Jensen

Jen & Mark,

My son, Kevin, and my daughter, Robyn, are in Corrine & Isaac's classes, respectively. I have been checking your website fairly regularly but haven't posted anything in a while. Your whole family is in my prayers, but most especially Mark as he keeps such remarkable spirits amid all this medical rigamarole. I started became an aspheresis donor last fall (platelets & red blood cells only instead of whole blood) and will think of Mark when I give my next donation. It really makes a difference to picture a real person receiving these blood components, and since I don't know whose mine will go to, it still feels good to know that they make a difference in someone's medical recovery!

Blessings and peace to you from your Brimhall friends,

hi to you all---I'm finally getting ready to send a check to the Benefit Fund in memory of Aunt Edna and trying to get all those Christmas Letters mailed, too. It is aamazing all the stuff cancer patients have to endure to fight the disease---we keep hearing the daily ordeals of several and know that we need to pray every day for all of them---just to keep up their strength and determination and to do the everyday things that most of us just take for granted!!! We have a neice in Alaska who has been fighting the good fight for several years and recently she had a very bad episode.

Great picture---those kids just keep getting cuter and bigger!!!! Lisa told me about the cookie story and Grandma Alice!!!!! She is amazing, too---but she keeps on going---she has no choice!!!! and Connie told her what she had to do and not to argue about it.... must get back to the letters and the cereal!!! I read your journal entry this morning and I am praying that you Jen, will be able to stay strong both spiritually and emotionally. For me, that can only be done by the strength of Jesus because only He knows us so intimately and can give us peace and hope that no one else can give. I am praying that Mark will shift into a phase even today where he begins to feel a bit better. When I had chemo, there were a few times where it was very difficult for me to watch my family watch me suffer.

Love in Christ,

Jackie Z.

Hi Jen. Kim McElroy sent me info about your family's plight. I have been reading the journal and am amazed by all your strength and perseverance. I've done some doctoring at Mayo and they treat you well. Glad your able to get help. What a beautiful family you have, my prayers and thoughts are with you all. (By the way, how do you still look the same as you did in highschool?!?!)

Dear Jen, I am not sure if I had heard about Marks diagnosis before and just spaced it. I am so sorry to hear you all have to go through more chemo and a transplant. I never had to have a transplant but I know what it is like to have to travel to treatment. Stay strong and let people do 'things' for you!!! It is hard but you will need to have the help. I am glad to hear you are treating at Mayo, I am convinced they are the BEST.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Connie

Ginny Hope has been a wonderful person in my life. When she told me of the situation your family is in my positive thoughts and prayers do out to you and your family. I wish you well and know that your family will see this through. It is so important at a time like this to keep your head up, which will be easy with Ginny as part of your family.

Hi guys! Greetings from the Kallsens in WI. And our very best to Mark as he continues on w/his treatment plan at Mayo as we have witnessed great success w/others--who have received their advance treatment there. Although we were surprised to learn about your return to treatment, we are glad that you & Jen are using this "caringbridge" resource as a way to keep us up to date from now on. We'll add you to our prayers and hope that you will call upon us, if we can help you or family in Rochester or Roseville as we have had experience in your area of care & concern as well as being grandparents on call.

Dearest Mark and Jennifer:

You don't know me, either. I am a friend of your Aunt Ginny. I used to work with her in Dallas for about 15 years and then I moved to Michigan. I got to see Ginny last April when she went home with me on vacation to East Texas.

I just wanted to tell you that you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. You have a wonderful family - your kids are precious!

Mark, I'm sending much love and best wishes to you and your family. I enjoyed viewing your website.

Hello,
You don't know me but I am a high school friend of Ginny Hope. She, my husband Dave, and I graduated together. Dave passed away March 4, 2003. I know something of what you and your family are going through. Our oldest son, Eric, died of acute myelogenic leukemia at the age of 31, June 14, 2000. The survival rate of this type of leukemia is 20% with very little research dedicated to it because of its rarity. He was an AF pilot, married 3 years, and was ill less than a month. You and your family will be included in my daily prayers. I pray that your cancer will go into remission so that you and your family can continue on your lives as a happy, healthy family. Keep your faith in God, ask for strength to face this terrible disease and let your family, friends and neighbors and church be a source of help and comfort to you. I pray for your recovery and may God be with you all and shower you with many blessings. Sometimes one must struggle to look through the clouds to find the blessings but they are there.

Hello- Mark Jen and the whole gang!!
I had heard of the caringbridge website but this is the first occasion I have had to visit- I think it is a wonderful way to keep everyone involved in this difficult time in your lives-helpful too so you won't have to repeat so often the same thing to all who ask- we can go online and get our questions answered. You two are so lucky to have each other and such a wonderful support group- YOU WILL MAKE IT THROUGH THIS!!!!! Take care of each other- I have been thinking of your family since the start of all this but not sure how to help-and it hit a little to close to home-too soon-I feel a little helpless being this far away but now I'm feeling like I can help in thought and prayers better with these daily updates. Thinking of all of you!!!! Your cousin, Linda Clark.

Greetings Mark & Family:
Let us send our care and concern to you and your loved ones. It sounds a bit like a forced march. So it's OK to wonder what it's all about. But certainly you have many who are joining you in love and support. And sometimes when you feel a little breathless, remember: "On the day you were born, a forest of tall trees collected the Sun's light in their leaves, where, in silent mystery, they made oxygen for you to breathe..." --Debra Frasier. May you sense the power and strength of those who are marching with you. God's grace and peace, be with you every step. Love, Duane & Sue
