Happy to see an update from you and know that you are all well. Kiliian looks so cute and is growing up so fast. I know what you mean about this "season" . Taxes and snow rule here in PA, it is cold and dreary. Hopefully spring comes early :) Stay well

Hi ML, WOW, what a nice journal entry!! SO GLAD to see it again! Sounds like everything (as far as we know) is going good. If we have to wait till Nov., we have to wait, that's all. You've got to have a positive attitude ...believe you'll be treated fairly. And I believe, if you believe in God, you will be!!

That's the attitude I'm going with with this terminal lung cancer I was diagnosed with in April. My pulmonologist said if his lungs look as bad as mine, he'd just go with Hospice and that's what I did. There was an article in the July (I think) issue of Reader's Digest about how doctors want to die...did you see it? Very interesting. Of course, going on Hospice means no treatment...Hospice is all about COMFORT CARE. They give you any meds you need, any equipment, EVERYTHING! The one good thing about lung cancer (if there is such a thing) is that the lungs themselves don't feel pain...the one thing I fear the most...PAIN!!! And there hasn't been any pain, yet......

Gotta go. Sure hope your next entry is as good or better than this last one. God bless all of you! Oh, and by the way, Kilian just gets more and more handsome with every new picture! <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi ML, LOVE your (and Kilian's, of course) new pictures!! So glad "Daddy's Day" went so well, I love it! I doubt Mommy's side is much fun, from the sounds of things. I don't know, I just think a boy should have more time with his Dad...maybe someday, huh? You know I always keep all of you in my prayers. Take care and God bless.

Hi ML, Such a great update today! I go to your page every night and I always smile when I see all your faces, especially Davis and Kilian...and you and Kilian and Grandpa!! It just makes my day! It sounds like Darrel and Brett are doing good, too. So nice to hear. I hope you all have a great day at the science museum, sounds like fun. Just don't forget to replace your camera batteries so you can take pictures. Good luck on finding the windows you want. Take care. God bless all of you!

Oh ML, That girl's father sucks, lawyer or not!!! That's just plain mean!!! I feel bad for Kilian having a grandfather with no heart!! He's as much his Dads as he is him moms! I feel so bad for all of you. I hope grandpa remembers this...that boy will grow up and (I hope) find out just what kind of a person he is...THEN we'll see what Kilian thinks of him!! The jerk! I'll be keeping all of you in my prayers. Keep your chin up everyone. Take care and God bless.
Hugs and Blessings,
Judy

Hi ML, That was kind of a sad post today. I bet you enjoyed that dream, even tho it must have made you a little sad when you woke from it. I've been praying and praying on Davis' behalf. I didn't realize Davis doesn't have visitation rights. What's with that?? He's Kilian's Dad for heavens sake!! Isn't he supporting him? I thought he, Kilian and his mom (I forgot her name)had their own place but I guess not. I'll be keeping you all in my prayers. I hope I see the judge's decision soon! Take care and chins up.
Hugs and Blessings,
Judy

OMG ML, That Grandparents Prayer is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm going to make a copy of it and hang it on my wall. I sure hope and pray that judge rules in favor of Davis. There's no reason to keep Kilian from his Dad!! That would be a very sad thing to do! I check Davis' site every day, as well as pray for all of you every day. Everybody keep your chin up! Hopefully the judge will have more sense than a certain grandparent! Take care and God Bless.
(((Hugs))) and Blessings,
Judy

Hi ML, Thank you so much for the update!! I was really worried that something (not pertaining to custody suit) really bad had happened to someone! I am so sorry that her Dad is such an idiot!!! NO THOUGHTS of his grandson at all!!! I have been praying for Davis right along, every time I think about him (which is often) and I will continue to do so! Please take care of each other. God loves you.
Hugs and Blessings,
Judy

Hi ML, How are things in your neck of the woods? How is Davis making out with his custody suit? I'm keeping him, and the rest of you, in my prayers. I sure hope it warms up soon...REAL soon! I'm also glad I live in south-western Florida. At least we haven't gotten any snow, but it sure has been cold a few times...lower 30's...br-r-r-r-r! I'll be glad when Spring gets here. I bet you will, too! :-) Please take care and God bless all of you.

Hi ML, My, it sounds like you've been busy! My husband was a self-employed building contractor, too, so I know what you mean about making hay while the sun shines! :) Sounds like your weather is getting wintery. It's finally cooling down here after a really hot, long summer. I left the air off and windows open last night, put a light-weight blanket on the bed and we slept soooo good. It was wonderful for a change! I still keep all of you in my prayers. God bless.

Hi ML, Oh my goodness, so much all at once! I hate when that happens!!! But not the end of the world, I'm sure. It does sound like you've had your hands full tho! And Kilian is doing puzzles and he's how old...3?!! What a smart little cutie he is! I hope Jeff is back to parr really soon! I hope whatever is wrong with him isn't serious. I bet Brett will be more careful about what he puts in his pockets...ouch!! I sure hope it heals soon! I'll be keeping all of you in my prayers, as always. Take care!

Hi ML, Oh My Gosh, those pictures with your grandson are terrific! The one with Poppy and the fish looks like he's trying not to touch it. :) My daughter took her then 3 year old granddaughter fishing in a little pond one day and she caught a little sunfish. Daughter was trying to get a picture of her holding the fish and granddaughter kept saying "Hurry up Nana, hurry up!!!" She has that same kind of expression on her face! :):):) Nice to hear the whole family was at the cabin and had a good time! I'm still praying for everyone!

Hi ML, I've been praying for Davis and Britt...hopefully they'll be more mature about things than you-know-who, but that is a tough row to hoe. If one of my daughters had picked someone like Davis, I'd be thrilled to death! I hope you all have a wonderful Easter! God bless all of you.

OMG ML, What kind of people ARE they??? Besides nuttsos!!! Oh, as you can see I did get on the site! I printed out the instructions as I'm sure I'll need them every time. :-) No problem! Please tell Davis I'm praying for him and HIS family. Is his girl an only child? Her father may be a lawyer but he's not too smart if you ask me! Rather ignorant I'd say!! What a jerk!! God Bless you all and hang in there!

What a wonderful thing to do, ML! And doesn't it make you feel good?!! Pay it forward...what a wonderful way to live life! When I went grocery shopping a couple of days ago, the cashier asked me if I'd like to donate something to the people in N.J. and N.Y., the store was taking up a collection. I said yes, and fairly danced out the door (which isn't easy with a full grocery cart) because it made me feel so good to do something to help! I live in FL so I couldn't just leave money somewhere and don't know anyone there to send it to, so this worked out great.
I'll be keeping you and all of your family in my prayers, as usual. By the way, did the boys get any deer when they went bow hunting? Take care and God Bless.

Hi ML, Thank you so much for updating. Glad to hear you don't approve of smoking, either. I hope you all have a happy Labor Day weekend. Sorry to hear that Darrel lost his job and I WILL keep him in my prayers to find a good one! My grandson, who lives with us, is looking for work, also. Seems it's going to be hard to come by...lousy economy! Good Luck to Jeff on his inspector training. I'll be keeping ALL in my prayers. I hope you're all having a really nice Labor Day. God Bless.

Hi ML, Got a question...please don't hate me, but... You're a nurse, one son had cancer...WHY are they all smoking????? I smoked for 40 plus years and it took a lot for me to quit about 7 years ago, mostly because I couldn't breathe. Went to the doc and found out I had COPD and emphysema and it's just getting worse...but slowly. I take expensive medications and have reached the point where I can't do much of anything physical anymore. It's sad and I hope they all quit SOONER rather than later. I won't say anything about it again. God Bless.
Hugs and Blessings,

Hi ML, So glad to see an update and seems everything is going along pretty good, at least job-wise. I know how Darrel feels with car problems...my grandson, Mel, just bought himself a scooter to go back and forth to work. Only goes up to 40 mph, but it gets him there...no money for anything bigger.

That little grandson of yours is getting so big, and so handsome! If the "other" grandparents have a crib, what do they need yours for? Too bad some people can be hard to get along with!

Keeping all in prayer, especially Davis on his checkup. Take care.

Hugs and Blessings,

This is the job for you ML. Its the job that you were prepared to do all of those years ago. You worked very hard to get to where you are at this moment. Now you get to take all that you have learned, and all that you experienced, to help others. Something good has come from very very bad. You are a survivor too and now you get to teach others to survive just like Davis, just like you and just like your family. Good luck on your journey ML. We are with you all the way.

I agree with Judy. The Good Lord did lead you to this, because He knows your heart and your mind; this was meant to be for YOU. You have worked hard for this, and you will continue to work hard to bring all that you have to this position. And it will be fine; I just know it...and when have I steered you wrong. :) I know it's easy for me to say but, really, IT WILL BE FINE. You're in my prayers, and my ear is always ready.

Oh my gosh, ML, that's wonderful!!! Of course you can do it! Everybody's jittery when starting a new job they've dreamed about...wouldn't be, if you didn't care so much! I think the Good Lord led you to this. Just give it a couple of weeks and before you know it, you'll feel like you're walking around in olde slippers instead of tight new shoes! Betcha!! You're in my prayers!
Hugs and Blessings,

Awwww!!! I know those two faces!!! Honestly, I think your Mom looks terrific; that smile, and her beautiful hair that I love. Your Dad is looking good, too. I'm so glad that you were there for your Mom through all of that; I'm sure it meant the world to her. And some sunshiney, 80-degree weather isn't bad for you!

Hi ML, Sheesh, what is it about medical people not wanting to get checked out themselves?! Just go see the nice doctor person so you at least know where you stand, health-wise. Gotta take care of you, too, not just everyone else in the family. 'Nuff said! I'm keeping you all in my prayers. Hugs and Blessings!

I love coming to your blog and reading all about Shandland. You guys always seem so grounded and you remind me of two things. 1 - remission and health IS possible and 2 - even when life is crazy, it's normal. You're families stories have got me through so much. Thank You.

Hi Mary Lee,
Awwww, so sad to hear that your brother's dog died, and right in front of everybody. It brought tears to my eyes. I hate it when I lose a pet! Just remember the poem "Rainbow Bridge". I currently have a cat, Chip and a dog, Kylee, that are both right around 17 years. I hope they live longer than me!!
Sure sounds like you've been ooba-busy lately, hope you get to slow down soon. Give the birthday boy hugs from me, he is such a cutie! I'll keep praying for everyone. You take care.

This entry, right here...this is your start at getting back to the writing of your book. A very moving, heart-wrenching, beautiful start. I know this can't be easy for you...feeling these feelings and sorting it all out...but sharing through your book...I believe it is another thing you were meant to do.

Will it make a difference to another parent of a child with cancer, to that child, or even to a sibling? Definitely. Probably more than you'll ever know.

It makes me so proud to be your friend. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and going to emotional places that are hard to face? Takes a lot of courage...and you're doing it!

I just have to tell you what a wonderful young man you raised. He came to get the crib and he had to hug me... he talked like we have known each other all his life- He told me of his plans and how good school is going and how well he likes it. His busy schedule--and I told him its only going to get more hectic! lol He had to give me a hug again before he left, not too many young guys would give a old lady a hug! lol He is a very mature young man I was very impressed with him. I thought he was very nice the first time I met him too, but he is just a very genuine young man. There is so much I just don't understand about the 35W tragedy; when I heard about it last night, I couldn't believe how something like that could happen. Tragic beyond comprehension. I just hope that the parents of your friend's little students talk to them before she has to deal with it on Monday. Where does one even start with that?

You, of all people, are probably not surprised that I would comment today. What a beautiful...and true...quote. It is more than just a little ironic how such clarity can happen towards the end of the earthly journey.

You, of all people, also know that I am a fan of verbalizing feelings; not that everyone has to, but it is just something I am comfortable with. However, the words are nothing if there are not actions to back them up. The "tangible" is what brings the words to life, and kindness is one of the better ones, in my opinion. I also think that it is okay to acknowledge kindness, and that it should be done a little more often.

We have been friends long enough now that we even have some "history" ... and a lot of memories that I will cherish forever. The period of January-June, 2008 specifically...concessions, scrapbooking weekend, Children's Gala, concessions banquet, my first butt-reaming, etc. Such fun times for me that I will never, ever forget. Thanks for all of the kindnesses of friendship that you have shown me; they have not gone unnoticed, nor will they ever. You are one of a kind...that 1%...and nobody could ever replace you. :)

I'm proud of you for trying to "let go" some...I think that is the hardest thing to do...especially when it's right there in your house with you!!! Just remember...this, right now, is your hardest time (in my opinion). Everything and everybody, right now, is at that place of "almost, but not quite." In just a few short months, there will be resolution to so much of this up-in-the-air stuff.

It's so hard to have patience sometimes, but your faith will get you through it; that, and the fact that you're a tough cookie. Plus, you always have me...now that alone should make you feel much better! BWAHAHAHAHA!

In all seriousness, this was a very touching, heartfelt post; glad you wrote it.

I saw all of this Sunday night (I have been dealing with a kidney stone and a bit out of it) and had Pete read what was going on and of course had to Google it. Pete asked me if we were related, because this is the crazy stuff that happens to us, as you know. I tell you, we are long lost sisters! Please know you are all in our prayers and asking God to bring these VERY dangerous people to justice! I am happy Jeff's pain is a bit better since he had some work done, I can't imagine the pain he is enduring and how much you already had on your plates doesn't make this easier. Hang in there with clinicals, the end is in sight! Hugs to you all!

Love and Blessings,

Sometimes I am pretty much in awe of you. NOTHING...or at least not much...gets to you! There is a popular saying right now..."Keep Calm and Carry On"...and it always reminds me of you. I've always wanted to be more like that but I've just had to accept that it's probably not in the cards. Jeff is fortunate to have somebody with your strengths and capabilities around right now; well, always, but especially when circumstances are less than optimum.

You know you both are in my prayers; again, always...but a little more now. You and Jeff have a lot of people who care about you, me included. That really says something about the two of you, to have that kind of support. Anything you guys need, you've got it.

Man, you had a tough weekend! Praying that Jeff recovers and that the family is punished for their poor behavior. We can still pray that they learn a lesson from this event but with their history, it may not help. The hardest thing to do is pray for "enemies."

Hey all,
We are all totally in shock, even our grandkids. They cannot believe this could even happen. He is doing this out of the goodness of his heart, and those people have to spoil it for everone else. You have been in our thoughts and prayers since we read it. Keep us updated, I did see it on WCCO, didn't know ahead of time it was to be on. Yes, they certainly need prayers, they are totally troubled, and don't know how to act in public. This is totally out and out terrible. Love you guys,

Plese tell me you are pressing charges against them all-I dont care if one may have just gotten out of a psych ward sounds like they let him out too soon!
I will Keep you all in my Prayers-especially Jeff-Feel better soon- And the rest of you take good care of that wonderful-husband and father. I am just so sad about this.

Oh ML. Im so sorry that Jeff had to put up with those thugs and I hope he feels much better soon. Youth sports is so out of hand. Its better to pray for them and hope that they get the help they need rather than stooping to their level of hate and need for violence. As long as you can prosecute them and have the guy spend some time in jail. I hope that Minnesota has a law that specifically deals with assaulting game officials. The ones that have been passed in many states enhance penalties and turn the degree of the offenses up so the penalty is much stiffer. That mom needs to be dealt with too. She should be charged too. Make sure you see a lawyer and make them pay for what they did to Jeff and your family. This kind of nonsense is exactly what I fear happening on our youth baseball fields. Feel better Jeff.

I see Davis was excited to get the Crib- No rush Davis it's not going anywhere! lol Please just give me a little notice when you are ready for it. Its in the way back of my walk-in closet with totes in the front of it! Unlike you Mary Lee I am not a organized person...I try but...
It is so nice that your friend gave you things- take all the things people give you the less you have to buy the better they grow so fast and outgrow the expensive things so fast! I do have a few things here that I would be happy to borrow to you if I do not have any kids in them at the time-Jumperoo-around we go-ect. I wonder how my kids did so well with all the new things I have for kids in my daycare now! lol (call me when they are almost ready for things and we will see where I am at with them!)
I see Jeff took a fall- Vance did the other day also outside. UGH! scares the crapola out of you! Just not so young anymore for that crap! Happy Early Birthday To Darrell! Hope you have a great week-

I KNEW Davis is going to be an awesome father. If, heaven forbid, there would ever be anyone who doubts it, just show them the pix of Davis and Levi at Eagle Mount. But, because I am so perceptive, I knew it even before that.

And I LOVE Gaelic names. Whatever they decide is gonna be just fine...I like what they're thinking of...and I basically believe that, whatever name they come up with, if there is anybody who doesn't like it, they should just keep their mouth shut. You know...because it's no one else's decision to make. Guess I sort of have strong feelings about that. Imagine. :)

You just wait...it's not gonna be long until you start hanging out at places like Once Upon A Child whenever you get a spare dollar...

Hope Brit finds a OB she likes. I had a terrible first one when I was pregnant with Kate and switiched right away to one that delivered all 3 of my babies. Like Davis, I am on that horrid prednisone too for what else but sinus problems. Story of my life. For one who already has sleeping problems, this sure has not helped. Because I'm pretty sure that I am genetically incapable of passing on any opportunity to give my opinion, here's mine.

I 100% believe that Davis is going to be a WONDERFUL father; after all, he has a really stellar role model. This little baby boy is going to be a blessing, the proportions of which you will not be able to fully realize until the first time you hold him and look into his face. I can say with certainty that it is at that moment when any judgments that anyone would have the bad taste to make cease to matter. You will look into the face of your grandson, and look at the face of your son, who is now a proud father...the little baby that you and your husband raised to be a man...and they are all that will matter.

Being a Grandma, a Nanna, a Meme, a Nona, a Grandmere, a Grammie, a Nan...no matter what you call it, it ends up being the same thing...is, in my opinions, one of life's greatest pleasures. And it makes no difference how you get there. I wish I would be able to know what your heart feels the first time his chubby little baby arms reach for YOU. And the first time he says, "I love you, Nanna." Be prepared for the wave of love you're going to feel. Just sayin'.

Congratulations to your whole family. Everything will be fine.

Kim

Davis and Brittany,
CONGRATULATIONS to you both on this new miracle that God has brought to you both. There is so much I want to say to you; but, it would mean nothing because you don’t know me. I KNOW you can and will be great parents, because you want only the best for your new little boy. It will not be easy; but, it WILL be accomplished with a lot of love from you both and those who love you.

Nanna ML,
My Mom was the same way, she WOULD only be called Nana and that is what all the grands call her. Hold your head high and proud as you await the arrival of this new little life…you have raised a mighty strong young man who will be an awesome father.

Love the photo of the dogs and Jeff…too cute! My prayers continue!

Hi ML, I think it's wonderful that Davis is going to be a Dad and you'll be a Nanna! My daughter also prefers to be called Nana (she spells it) because her Mom is called Grandma... :)!! And I became a Grandma at age 39! (I have 7 grandchildren and soon-to-be 5 great-grandchildren!) Davis has a great attitude about it and I'm sure everything will be just fine! Congratulations to you all! And don't forget to take lots of photos we can all see. :) :)

Well Nanna. Life is what you make it and as they say life is what happens when you are making other plans. I am glad that Davis has the resolve that he does. It certainly got him through a difficult time before and in this early stage of his life and being a dad and all of lifes difficulty for a young couple his resolve will get him through it again. God bless Davis and Brittany and their little boy.

I really want to read Randy's book. I've watched the video, but I still need the book. He was quite inspirational, and I find myself wondering how his wife and kids are doing.

My parents were hard on me too; sometimes, in all my teenage wisdom, it seemed like they set impossibly high standards...but they really weren't. It's just that they knew what I was capable of before I did. Probably the same with your parents! I personally think you are a great Mom...and they already know it. They're just not at that age quite yet where they will admit it! :)

Glad you're back.

Have a great time tomorrow, volunteering at the party at Children's. Whatever it is, it sounds sorta fun...it's a party, how bad can it be? :)

I am having visions of piles and piles of semi-shiny electronic parts stacked up in various rooms of Shandland. Then, something REALLY shiny presents itself...OH NO! And cookies. Piles and piles of cookies.

Bet I know what you'll be serving at your birfday. Cookie, anyone? And here...take a semi-shiny electronic part to go! Gee, I'm really gonna be sorry to miss that one! HAHAHAHA...

I cannot believe that Davis is 20...and just never gets any less handsome. Beautiful eyes.

A few more thoughts on birthday pics: 1) that big bowl of orange jello? I want it. :), 2) Donna is so pretty, and eventually I want her hair, 3) beautemous tree, and 4) I love your puppies.

YAY on the insurance; that is a sizeable savings for you, and I am happy for ya!

Oh my. Your poor sweet Catholic mother would probably get light-headed seeing Brett in a yarmulke! :) I personally think he should wear it with his dashiki. Such a globally diverse son you have...BWAHAHA!

BWAHAHAHA...Brett!!! I don't know what it is about "young men" that age and silk robes, but the neighbor "kid" was about Brett's age when he started appearing in a silk robe, too--we knew this because he would sit outside on the back step and talk on the phone. Bill called him "The Continental." BWAHAHAHA! I think you should get him an ascot to match his silk robe, so it can do double-duty as a smoking jacket. Quite dashing. :)

I would suggest one of those little round hat things to go with his dashiki, but that maybe could result in him getting his ass kicked...more BWAHA'ing.

I love Brett...what a fun kid. Where on earth did he come from, anyway? This post brightened up my whole day!

I painted a kitchen island black and put a butcher block counter top on it. It looked MUCH better than the red the previous owner had painted. She LOVED red and me...not so much!

Everyone knows it's mostly the nurses who care about the patients. You get some doctors who are great but so many of them have large egos about who they are. You did GREAT taking care of your patient and standing up to that doctor. Proud of you!!

Happy Thanksgiving to the whole Shand Clan.

This is bad. It had to have been from one or all of those darned kids. It's GI. It's body aches. It's coughing up three lungs at once. It's a headache that there is no help for. It's chills. And probably a fever, too. Even the thought of what most people are doing today **I can't bring myself to write it** brings on awful waves of nausea. Just shoot me.

But I'm very thankful for this day. BWAHA**coughcoughchokechokecough**HAHA.

I don't talk about it much, and I hardly ever even think about it anymore, either...but what you wrote reminded me. When I was younger, it was always my thought that one should ALWAYS keep dreaming, hoping, wanting, and wishing because, if you don't have that, you're on your way out. I still think that. It's has nothing to do with materialism, but it is a way of keeping from getting too old and jaded. I guess that's also my excuse for acting immature. :)

The Sears Christmas Catalog..."Christmas Wish Book"...I used to read and memorize it!

Kim

When I read your last paragraph, I was TOTALLY relating to what you said. When I do force myself to go out, I usually do a whole bunch of stuff...it just makes more sense to me that way. I have never understood it when people go here, come home for a while, go there, come home...and so on. It's not an efficient use of time...even if I've got more time than anything else!

Even if it's doing homework, I'd still rather be home. EXCEPT...if you call to meet for coffee, then I'm happy and excited to go out.:) Hope you've had a good volunteering day.

I'm sorry that today was a downer for you. As you said, you will feel what you need to feel and then be back to your regular self...it's just the way it is sometimes.

I also think they exaggerate some of those things, in an effort to make sure everyone realizes the importance of the situation...and I also think that they gear those types of "scare you straight" discussions to younger people who do not have the life experience we do. Unfortunately, we're also the ones that take it most to heart. Whatever. You are not going to blow it when it comes to taking your boards.

And, in closing, I want to know if the 19 y.o. crazy who went to the bar also got served, what with being crazy and UNDERAGE and all...??? EEEK. The twirling would have been rather interesting to witness, though. That one only gets an AYE-YI-YI. :)

And for your information, Missy, you're not THAT much younger than me. Don't EVEN try to tell me you did not listen to The Carpenters! I saw them in concert at Orchestra Hall in 1975. What kind/brand of rice cakes are they? I love rice cakes with pb, and the apple slice is a great idea. Can you eat apples if you cut them into slices and then chunks, or is that even too much crunch?

If the truth is told, I think that's a big part of the reason why his bail is at $1 million. Just as much as anything, it's a way to protect him from the parents.

I will be interested to see what happens to him in the end. I hope that things will be different, but I wouldn't be surprised if whatever time he gets is no where near enough. Not that anything would be enough.

When it comes to this type of thing, always trust the Mom Radar. Mom Radar doesn't need a reason.

Just Delurking to say happy birthday to Brett. Love the Brett "stories" when you have them ML. Hope Davis is doing well. Lots going on in his life right now. Hang in there Davis. God has brought you this far. Whether its fireman or an EMT you will take your place and do something very meaningful in your life and the lives of many others. I think that is what you have done in the life of that little boy you were a counselor for last summer in Montana. Take good care Davis. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Have a great day Brett! Keep working hard to be that nurse you want to be ML. I know you will be so good at what ever you decide to do with your nursing degree.

Okay, we are officially jealous of Brett! Danny listened to it in the car on the way home from school then kept me posted while I took LaRae to voice. We watched the awesome win together jumping up and down, yelling and screaming like a couple of kids. Scared the heck out of the dog and LaRae just stood there, looking at us like we were totally stupid...which to her we are no matter what we're doing!

Hope they can rest up enough to do well tonight. NE is pretty excited because the starting pitcher is from here.

What awesome pictures! We start that process of homecoming dresses and dances next year. My "baby!?" It's pretty common around here for kids to go as big groups, without dates and have pot luck dinners at somone's home before the dance. Miley Cyrus has strep, had to cancel her Omaha concert because of it. Quit hanging out with her!

We were talking about H1N1 today and in those of us who are older, there is also a version that is fever free with sore throat, achy, sinus gunk and coughing.

Sounds like you have lots of choices to be sick with and they have similiar symptoms. Does it really matter what it's called, the reality is you feel like crapola!

I, for one, am really relieved to finally know about the gtts. And I really think I'm all that because I also know what gtts is, thanks to you!

Ohhhh, Winona...I love Winona, plus it was always one of those very fun schools. Long, long time ago I knew people who went there. What happened to Colorado? Wherever he decides to go, I still can't believe Brett is college-bound. I guess that, to me, he will always be a 9th grader--or if not always at least a long time!

My dad went to Winona...quite a few years ago. They would go to a movie and get in at the kid price then go over to LaCrosse and drink beer since the drinking age was lower over there. I'm guessing it was 3.2 but it was still beer!

Keep us posted on what he decides.

Awww, that sounds awesome! Poor little guy; that was nice of you to lend him your gloved finger for comfort. Wouldn't it be nice if that was all it EVER took to calm them down? For a while now, I have been wondering what is in those prenatal vitamins that are the size of horse pills; that has to have something to do with the giant babies with the melon heads, wouldn't you think? HAHA!

You lost me right away on those math problems. I was still trying to remember what it all meant, much less coming up with an answer! It'll be nice to get it done and out of the way, huh? Then you can have a good weekend!

Hi Mary Lee, Congratulations on getting into the volunteer program at Children's...you're gonna be great!! Reading about your kids, I'm so glad mine are all grown, finally! Actually, all mine have kids that are all grown, too...time flys! Two of those have kids, too, but one (she has 3 and 1 more coming)lives in MA, and the other (he has one and she'll be 1 next month) lives here in FL, so we only get to see one except for photos. Geez, I must be getting old...the oldest great-grand is 13 already!!! Sorry, none of that has anything to do with you...my mind just wandered again.
By the way, your garden sounds great! I'll be starting to plant a couple of things in about 2 or 3 weeks. Last yesr I planted, among other things, 4 tomato plants and my husband made 32 quarts of his homemade spaghetti sauce for the freezer, plus I don't know how many bagfuls I gave away to neighbors, and we ate them almost every day! They were called "Red Beefsteak" tomatoes and I hope I can find them again this year! Gorgeous big, solid tomatoes!!
Geez, I've written almost as much here as I do when I write to my sister, regular mail. Guess I'd better sign off for now. I'm keeping you all in my prayers...for years now. You take care.

BWAHAHAHAHA...apparently Brett has found a girl with a good sense of humor, huh? Tell him for me...if he wants her to look especially fetching in her "Snuggi" he should get her the new LEOPARD print one. Spiffy! BWAHAHAHAHA...that is a hoot; I love it!

And you. You just rock. I don't know of anybody who deserves honors recognition more than you, because you work hard for it. I know it's hard for you to have people single you out for kudos--and that is why I'm leaving you a comment rather than saying it to your face--but you have earned every bit of recognition that you get and all of the good grades that you get. None of this surprises me a bit; I have always known that you would be a nursing standout, and I am so happy for each new step you take and each new accomplishment you make. For three hours every Friday, Children's is gonna be very lucky; I'm betting that in the near future, Children's is gonna be lucky every day once you're working there...

Man, I'm sure with you on the muggy-ness! It really is true that dry heat is different; I'll take that any day over humidity. My hair looks like I stuck my finger in a socket--and you know how particular I am about my looks! HA!

I'm so glad that Akaela is doing okay. I got the first bee sting of my life about a month ago; not pleasant, so can't even imagine how he felt. So sweet that he has appointed himself your protector; isn't it amazing how they always love you no matter what?

You are the only person I know who has a "holiday" birthday, and I get a huge kick out of that! Since I have known you, I find myself looking forward to YOUR birthday almost as much as mine! I just wish you didn't have to make any decisions about how to spend your 50th, because that just doesn't add any fun to your birthday! However you decide to spend it, you know I'll be here, hoping it's a very happy one for you.

And I so hope Davis goes to Duluth for firefighter's school. I'll keep my fingers crossed and say an extra prayer for it. And also for his liver (and for you, who will worry about his liver whether you want to or not because you're his Mom). For some reason, I can just see Davis at school in Duluth.

See what happens when you don't e-mail? Epically long guestbook comment. :) Have a good time at the CC.

On the one hand, I am really glad Akaela "took the bullet" for you--because the Good Lord only knows what sort of weird, never-before-heard-of, Mary-Lee-like reaction you would have had. On the other hand, it breaks my heart a little that he had to, the poor puppy!

And they say CATS have nine lives; I'm thinking certain dogs--**Akaela**-- do, as well! :)

Oh man. This might sound kind of stupid, but I even hate the thought of not seeing Akaela again. Such a good boy. I won't go on and make you sadder than you already are, but I'm just sorry for you, and for Jeff, too. I still remember seeing Jeff get out of his truck, and then Akaela jumping out right after him. Even though it's time, it still doesn't make it any easier. He's been with you for 15 years...

Well, I just...for about the 27th time now, have a good trip, and I'll miss you.

GO DAVIS! Even though I am sure you are going to ace whatever they throw at you, I am still adding my prayers into the mix. There is no doubt in my mind that this is what you were meant to do.

YAY! I FINALLY get to be part of a club; THE club, even! I guess--depending on what it is--it's a good thing you and ML have the same things at the same time because ML and I have nothing in common and the only reason she keeps me around is because I won't go away. :P That's okay, though, because with the way her life goes and the way my life goes, it's better that way. Otherwise I'd probably be the one that ended up with a raging infection and nine fingers. NO GOOD! BWAHAHAHA!

I heart you, ML. I probably heart you, too, Janie, but I'll let you know for sure when we meet. :)

GO DAVIS!

Cincy, OH - Saturday, July 4, 2009 5:29 PM CDT
Just remember, you heard it here first because I have been telling you from the beginning how good you were going to do! There was never a doubt in my mind and you know why? It's because of YOU.

Our prayers have definitely helped; there is nothing that would make me doubt that. But without the sheer force of your will, all of your hard work, dedication, and pure old stubborn tenacity, you would not have done as well as you did. This is what you were meant to do, I believe that with everything that I am. Even though I have missed you very much during this time of your grueling schedule and I know that will continue, I am even more proud of you. Again, you ROCK.

Now. Let the fun begin! :)

Thinking of you two today, and saying a few prayers. You all are a bunch of troopers!

Wasn't that Farrah special something? When I watched it, I pretty much lost it a few times; it brought it all back, all of it...trying to WILL a cure, trying anything that even MIGHT help, trying to deal with THOSE side effects...it was very, very emotional to watch. I'm glad that she had Alana and Ryan through it all.

Communicate with me when you can...prayers for you guys!

My two cents on the friend subject...I don't facebook, but I have used Lisa's site as a way to keep family and friends who have met me in the loop. It was like an online journal and a history I can use to look back at when certain symptoms occurred. Then someone found Lisa's site and began to write, people I never met; however, were very encouraging. I found out how good it felt to be encouraged by like minded people, with medically fragile family. Being a natural encourager, I began to reach out to others. Due to Lisa's illness, activities I had been involved with at church (mostly ministering to others), seemed to transform to ministering on line. I was stuck in the house, unless I was at medical appointments. I have had the privilege to meet quite a few of our online friends and those I felt close to and a bond with on line, were the very ones who became "real" friends when we met. Of course, I have been blessed with great discernment, which I feel helps in these strange ways of connecting...Davis doesn't really have a lot of medical needs now, from what I read; however, I only know what you write. I signed in the first time I stopped in because you made me laugh. I only keep up with a handful of people now and because I feel we have a lot in common, I still stop by to say hi. It is late, so I hope this makes sense. Just my two cents....which is what it is worth!

Love and Blessings,

I meant to tell you...and forgot...when I got my toes done the other day, the first thing Pam said to me was, "Kim, how you friend Mary?" I told her you were fine. I thought that was so cute! I guess you made an impression.

Hi there ML,

Came back momentarily from being MIA. I am so happy to hear the good news about your dad. And sorry about the loans. But you know what they say, " when one door closes, another one opens". Hope you and Brett have a great weekend at the cabin. Kim, only 23 more days until we invade your area. Are you ready? LOL.

Janie <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>

ML, I have been reading Davis' updates for a long time but it has been way too long since I have signed the gb. I am so thankful to hear the great news about your Dad. But now the rotten news about no more loans. Life really seems to be the craps for Darrel right now, which is so hard as an parent, much less an young adult trying to put their life together. Know that I enjoy reading your updates and always have you and your family in my prayers!!!!! Best wishes for school starting again soon. In Him,

Oh, thank God! Literally. Thank God!

I am so, so happy to read your Mom's words, ML. And I'm so glad that you will be able to go into your weekend knowing that all will be relatively well with your Dad. Yeah, the catheter isn't such a fun thing, but it's a small annoyance in the grand scheme of things.

And I love your quote...that is beautiful, and I am going to copy it down. Here is one I read somewhere that made me think of you...

"A good friend is a connection to life--a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world" -- Lois Wys

Great news!

Kim

BWAHAHAHAHA...EXTREME WHIFFLE BALL? Only Brett! Although, as I remember, just getting hit with one of those suckers is a little exteme in and of itself!

I was laughing SO HARD over your description of the ShandLand food situation with Chef Jeff at the controls...you and your can of original Bush's Baked Beans! Those are my favs, too, so I'm with ya on that one...leave the Original Bush's alone. But I'm with Jeff on the olives; in fact, olives AND pimentos...a little in darn near anything is good, but A LOT is better! Notes on the fridge...I just love you guys...SOOOO funny!

REALLY cool also that the two of you found such a good place to walk together with Cleopatamus! :) Everything just seems better out there, doesn't it.

And now that you're back to work? I really and sincerely hope your thumb is okay...

Awww...I remember them! That is a terrific pic of ALL three of you...Awww!

I like the one of you eating out of the mashed potato bowl with the ginormous serving spoon. Glad ours isn't (wasn't) the only family like that! HA! And I had to laugh over the "lunging" tops. Sorta like a top with a plunging neckline? Chyeah...if one gets TOO plunging, those things ARE likely to lunge. BWAHAHAHA!

Okay. That's all from me today. I promise...

Have a good weekend, you two!

I didn't cause I don't have any. Both of you are clearly far superior to me, who sucks.

I was supposed to go and get some flowers Tuesday, but it didn't work out. In desperation, during my Cub run after work today, I looked at their baskets. The ONE I liked? $$$35.99. Yeah. I don't think so. Especially when there's a good chance I'll just kill them.

My yard sucks, too.

Well, you're back. Now go away again. I talk to you more that way. BWA.

Oh, and I forgot to say...NUM, that is one of my childhood favorites/comfort food, too! Speak of that food = love thing, my Mom hated fish of all kinds but would make that particular meal for us because my Dad and I liked it. Which is one of the many reasons/meals why I DO weight 10000000 lbs. All that "loving" with food... :) And all I can say is...

Mmmm...salmon patties/mashed potatoes/creamed peas. Jealous.

Thank goodness you were gonna write on the bathroom walls this time about ML and not me. And Kim, I was trying to keep that visual of ML and her sequins and stuff outa my head. LOL. You got my interest with the coffee add ins or whatever you called them. Hope your kidney is feeling better.
Janie <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>
Cincy, OH - Monday, May 18, 2009 4:38 PM CDT
I think Janie has my number ALREADY...tomorrow morning I was planning a little trip out to all the fun men's rooms in the B'ville/Eagan area to leave catchy little messages about ML and her new profession with the nothing-but-a-feather-and-glitter costume. This whole nurse business was just a distraction for what she was REALLY training for.

Curses, foiled again. She's coming back before I could finish the job. Plus my kidney hurts too bad. Lucky for ML. MWAHAHAHAHAHA (that is BWAHA's evil twin).

ML, the lilacs bloomed today...just for your return. :)
And...Janie Buckley...COME ON DOWN! We have good coffee (and even some add-ins **wink, wink**, if necessary) with your name on it!

SeeYaBye.

Sorry I stood you up for breakfast on Saturday. Can you believe I got lost? And as for the comment about the messages on the bathroom wall, that was way too funny. Good one Kim. LOL. Hurry home ML and go see Kim before she gets any more excited and no telling then what she might do or say. Have a safe trip back to MN.

YAY, only one more day until you come home! I'm excited and can't wait!

Which is a little odd, since it's not like I'll be there to pick you up at the airport or anything, and who even knows when I'll see you next. Nonetheless, it's just better FOR ME when you're in the same state. And we all know that, ultimately, it IS ALL ABOUT WHAT'S BEST FOR ME.

Because you love us, that's why you wrote here! Way to go, my friend, for getting in the spirit of things **YAY*freakin' took ya long enough*YAY**!!!

Tracy and Jeff came back early from their three-day-getaway to Duluth; weren't supposed to come back until tomorrow, but came back today instead. The snowflakes were the straw that broke the camel's back, I guess! :)

Glad Jeff is back in plenty of time to finish the checkerboard painting of the living room. Because then that will also leave plenty of time to finish the mirrored-ceiling-installation in the boudoir. Kinky. ;).

I asked about Angels & Demons in e-mal; figured you were going to it. LUCKY! And I'm glad you and Brett didn't like the Cincy 5-Way because that STILL leaves more for me! :P

'kThxSeeYaBye.

Not to worry...we do have Caribou Coffee here, ya know!

And I am ALMOST sure ML has nothing to worry about with either the house or the cabin. Although we now have Shand-Man inhabitation at BOTH sites. But I'm PRETTY sure everything will be just fine. At least to THEIR standards. Since ML is busy out watching Viva Las Vegas shows and such, she probably doesn't even mind about the mayhem that MIGHT be happening in Minnesota. She's probably singin' karaoke, playin' blackjack, and filling out an application to become one of those Vegas showgirls that wears nothing but a feather and some glitter. Don't let her kid ya...she IS *ahem**that way**cough* ya know (said in lowered, secretive voice). BWAHAHAHAHAHA...SO NOT!

12 hours will be perfect. Original Pancake House. You will like it!

Don't run off to Vegas now, Mary Lee! ♥♥♥

It's A Secret...
~, ~ - Friday, May 15, 2009 9:26 PM CDT
Hey Kim,

If I leave now and drive all night I can get there for breakfast. Heck, it is only 12 hours or so with the hour time difference. Just make sure to have some really strong coffee ready. Poor ML, now you are gonna have her wondering about her house and the cabin now.

Janie Buckley <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>
CIncinnati, OH - Friday, May 15, 2009 8:54 PM CDT
I do not believe you, Janie. I think that you are just trying to get me to rest on my laurels and then, when I least expect it, you will POUNCE with a vengeance. Chyeah, you innocent-seeming ones are all alike. Just ask Mary Lee Shand. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

There is no late-breaking news out of Grand Marais, Minnesota--that I know of. There is still plenty of time, though. Just sayin'. BUT...I'm absolutely sure that there are no Shand-Man-Shenanigans going on up there AT ALL...to bed at 10, up at dawn to enjoy a little DECAF coffee before getting back to work, work, work. No fishing, no dirtbiking, no shooting of unsuspecting critters, no sitting around with their big ole dirty boots up on the furniture, scratching their boy parts. Nope, none o'that! :D

Yes, this pretty much comes naturally. This is what happens when I am just being myself. And maybe a little bored. :)

Is it sick and wrong that I'm having such a good time at this?

Pray for me...please. And ML? I miss you. Come home...
Janie, can you come here, too? Like, now? I would like to go out to breakfast tomorrow morning...

Well. I'll have you BOTH know that not only did I drink the beer, but also helped to pick up and run with the keg when law enforcement showed up. Thus, the bad knees now. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ummm, yeah. About that damage that Jeff, Brett, Davis et.al. WON'T be doing? Already done.

Now. About the cabin. I sure hope Jeff and Davis don't put their mad carpentry skills together and decide to "remodel." I'm sure they won't...BWAHAHAHAHA!

You used that old check card story again, huh? Shhh...I won't tell anyone you just don't want to part with your cash stash. :P

FORCED to eat stuff, huh? I hate when that happens.

Have a good weekend, then come home.

I know ML was NOT referring to me when she mentioned that her guest book had been hijacked. Looks all innocent. Besides it was Kim who has come up with all the wonderful ideas for the Shand boys.I am hundreds of miles away. I just really love her ideas tho. LOL. Hope your tummy is feeling better. Got some things to do before I go pick up Camiren. Hey ML, how do you think Kim would do against Gary aka Grumpy? LOL.
Janie Buckley <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>
Cincinnati, OH - Friday, May 15, 2009 1:32 PM CDT
The Shand yard/flower gardens are beautemous. At least they are when she is there to tend to them! Now? Well, let's just say that if the rumors are true...and I'm not saying they are...ML's "boys" have their own ideas about what constitutes beautemousness. BWAHAHAHAHA!

I personally just hope that Jeff and Davis, and possibly with the help of Brett and Darrel too, haven't repainted the whole entire inside of the house...in colors THEY like. Being professionals, it would not take them long to do the WHOLE INSIDE OF THE HOUSE. I'm sure they wouldn't...

We like little boys up here in our neck of the woods...between ML's three and my five grandsons, the city is still standing, but maybe YOUR little one can bring it down? YAY! :)

A nice checkerboard pattern for the livingroom walls... :D

Just Sayin'...
~, ~ - Friday, May 15, 2009 7:42 AM CDT
I see you have heard of the infamous 5 way chili. You know I keep reading about ML's yard and I have this picture in my head of it all and it is quite funny. I just bet those Shand boys are having a blast this week. Beware of around June 21 cuz that is when we will be invading your town. And that lil boy will be wanting to go back to MOA so we will be close by . LOL.
Janie Buckley <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>
Cincinnati, OH - Thursday, May 14, 2009 8:05 PM CDT
Cincy 5-Way??? NUM! I'm glad ML and her "ilk" did not like it...I do! Spaghetti, chili, beans, cheese, onions??? Chyeah, all of that is so awful, I CAN SEE WHY SHE DIDN'T LIKE IT. Must be the refined taste buds from the large-espresso-by-the-pool; next she will be holding up a pinky when she is partaking of her large espresso...WELL! LA-DI-FREAKIN'-DA!!! :)

GOOD! That's more Cincy 5-Way for me...bet she doesn't like chili-cheese dogs either. BETTER YET! Come on down, Janie!

I heard from a very reliable source that there is a house in B'ville with TWO toilet flower planters, as well as an old claw-foot bathtub planter...and TWO suspicious-looking characters holding court over them. The City Housing Code people HAVE BEEN CALLED...

BWA! ;)

This is fun... <kdanielson@earthlink.net>

I only wish I could keep up with Kim and all the marvelous sayings she comes up with. Maybe I need to spend more time up there in WI/MN. Anytime you are in Cincy you are welcome to come swim in my pool and I will even give you some of that wonderful Cincy chili that ML didnt like.

Oh yes you will. I know enough about you to know you are INCAPABLE of staying silent for long. Thankfully. :P

Actually...you da best, and I miss you. I hope it won't be too long after you get home before we can meet up for a cuppa coffee...no pressure though. Thank you very much for today; it meant a lot to be able to talk. I MEAN IT.

And Janie, I'm sorry (not really)...but I just can't feel too sorry for you AND YOUR POOL. The closest I come is the bird bath out back. :)

I wonder if Jeff and Brett have moved the love seat and chair from the livingroom out onto the FRONT porch, because they're both enjoying looking at the new bathtub and toilet flower planters in the middle of the front yard...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Cincinnati, OH - Thursday, May 14, 2009 7:28 AM CDT
BWAHAHAHAHA...actually, she's probably gonna be more concerned that it appears I've highjacked her guestbook! Damn, if only I could figure out her password, I'd be writing updates in her absence (even though she's updating herself)! And I live about a mile from MOA. :D

I am absolutely sure that everything in Shandland is just fine. In fact, I'll bet Jeff, Davis, and maybe even Brett and Darrel are all teaming up to get Mary Lee's GARDENS ALL PLANTED FOR HER. The vegetable garden? Check, done! The beautemous flower gardens? Also check, done! Maybe not like SHE would do them but check, done anyway! BWAHAHAHA! I know she is cringing over this one.

This is what happens when you go on vacation and leave me here, ML...you better come home to save the veggies and flowers, and me. :)

Night, Janie. Night, ML. Night John Boy.

Mmmm...Caribou Coffee. For those of us who DON'T have impressive older brothers with top-o-the-line espresso makers and pools. Don't give us, your loyal friends, another thought. Large, heavy sigh.

I'll bet Jeff and Brett are playing music really loud and drinking pop WITH SUGAR while you're gone. Chyeah...PARTY TIME AT SHANDLAND, THE WARDEN'S GONE!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Joke. :P

But, hey, enjoy yourself and don't you worry about a thing! ☯ ☀ ☮

I wanna drink a large espresso from a professional-grade espresso machine by a pool. But I will settle for drinking a large espresso from a professional-grade espresso machine on a deck of a house in Burnsville. BWAHAHAHAHA! Work on gettin' one of those babies, would ya? Mmmm...espresso!

I wonder if, in your absence, Jeff and Brett are eating stuff that is REALLY BAD for them and watching baseball until they're googly-eyed...BWAHAHAHAHA.

Have fun with the folks...awww...I hope they're both doing good, and I can't wait to hear about them.

Alrighty then. :)

All I can say is, those oncology nurses in the Cancer Care Unit were very important people in my life for a long time, because they were not only the ones who were taking care of THE MOST important person in my life...but they also took care of the rest of us. Incredible, incredible, special people.

No, it is not in your head. You have something wrong in there and it hurts. Just like it is not in my head that my right kidney is throbbing and my left knee hurts like a sumgun.

Yes, it is true that there are people who are so much worse than you, and people who are so much worse than me--but that doesn't minimize what is going on with you. I have spent 52 years sweeping any pain I feel under the rug, but now I plan to spend the next 52 acknowledging it without feeling guilt and like mine isn't "bad enough because other people have it so much worse." I think you should adopt the same philosophy :).

Either way, though, you are going to be a great nurse and you will not let anything interfere with that. This, I know. Does this sound like a sermon, or a lecture? Because I don't mean for it to sound that way...it's just that...MAN, YOU BLEW OUT YOUR FREAKIN' THUMB and it hurts and it's okay for you to say that! Okay, done now. BWAHAHAHA.

Bummer on the cancer panel dropout...I could always come and tell them how much what they do helps the families of cancer patients. You know me, always here for ya. More BWAHA'ing.

Later, gator. Still hoping your day is not too bad. I'm getting ready to go do a little Cinco de Mayo celebrating. :)

I wonder what kind of PT you will have for your total thumb replacement? BWAHAHAHAHA! Wait! I know...you have your thumb done, and I'll have my left knee done at the same time and we can be PT buddies. YEAH, BABY! :) I still think you should go for the transplant using a donor toe. That way, you can silently BWAHA to yourself whenever you're digging goo off of people's teeth...because YOU KNOW it's someone's toe in their mouth. HEH!

Just know I will stick with you through the whole process, no matter what you decide. *snort* :)

Why, I guess BIG CONGRATS are in order FOR RICH!!! I'll keep him in my prayers for no post-partum problems. Did his baby girl look anything like Trixie? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yup, I'm beginning to think that weaning off certain medications can really do a number on the dream process. I, too, have been having some REALLY...ummm...strange??? ones. Usually my dreams are very ho-hum day-to-day-but-with-a-twist dreams. Lately they're definitely out of the box.

Hey, GOOD JOB ON YOUR PAPER. I TOLD YOU SO. I'm saying this right here in the guestbook so anybody who visits can see it...I feel THAT strongly about what I'm going to say. I truly think that it has always been God's plan for you to be in the healthcare field. You are SO, SO smart about all of this stuff and you will excel all the way through the nursing program, and then you will excel at being an RN. You do not seem to have a clear understanding of just exactly how smart you are, but I sure see it...ALL.THE.TIME.!!! Even during those times...in the past...when you've irritated the snot right outta me, I am always in awe of your brain power. And, from me, that is the highest compliment ever; I truly admire smart people. It is you that plays a big part in keeping ME motivated to do better, in more ways than one. So, you're rockin' it, Girl, just like I knew you would...and that will continue. GOOD JOB! :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MARY LEE AND JEFF, I HOPE IT IS A WONDERFUL DAY FOR YOU!

My two cents about anatomy...MUCH tougher than physiology. (But Microbiology is yummy..I aced it with a 100 percent, it was my thing). We had to dissect cats, among other disgusting things and lab tests consisted of 45 stations with 20 SECONDS per station to identify whatever smelly part the dissecting pin was in. (or bone part, etc) It took me 10 seconds just to get my butt in a chair good! Also, don't forget that strange piece of bone in your nostirls is called the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone and there is a tiny pin size hole in your tibia called someting...but I can't think of it now. My absolute WORST class in nursing school was anatomy...nearly kicked my fanny, no joke....This is so funny, because I was just sharing this with the children last week to prove I have my struggles as well! I will be praying for you, it still gives me chills!(I am just FULL of support this AM , aren't I) You just stirred up some memories! I know YOU will be awesome, you ARE woman and have been through MUCH tougher things than a silly old professor!
Have fun today!

I know exactly where your thoughts are going because mine immediately went there, too. But don't...just hold steady until you see the paperwork. Until then, it's all speculation that could lead to needless worry. And we don't need any needless worry on top of the regular worry. Capice? :)

Barfing thumb joint? Only you. Seems like there's always some sort of barfing going on over there in Shandland...but an internally-barfing thumb? I bow to you on that one, my friend. TWO THUMBS UP!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA...

Apparently it is sort of a hungry day for you? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! You're a girl after my own heart! I've gotta tell you something funny. Yesterday, early afternoon, I HAD to have a snack. I've been trying to stick to meals and cut back on the snacking, but I HAD to. I was craving something very specific that I HAD to have. Chocolate? No. Chips? No. Brussels sprouts? DING-DING-DING, YES! Steamed with lemon pepper and Mrs. Dash. Heavenly. And your whole dinner sounds wondermous, but what really jumps out at me is the ramen oriental coleslaw. I LOVE that stuff! Toasted sesame seeds and toasted slivered almonds mixed in right before serving? NUM...two thumbs up!

We need to get us each a cherry-pitter from Bed, Bath & Beyond...because we need those smoothies. :)

Have fun with the boys at dinner...what a nice thing for this day! :) ♥♥♥ :)
*A heart for each boy, a smile for each parent**

Yes, sappy-ness and sentimentality-ness wins out today. Humor me. :)

A cucumber bush? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I must come over for a viewing. It all sounds wonderful...all of it. Last year's colorful batch of peppers was so pretty, it'll be fun to see the beans. Gardens fascinate me...to me, more evidence of God.

You and Brett start feeling better, please! ♥ :) ♥

See? You got drawn in...that's why I call Facebook, Facecrack! You do comment to yourself if no one else is around. I think I can speak for Janie too when I say that this convo of ours here means we're OUTGOING and FUN. BWAHAHAHAHA!

I need to chat with you about organ donation...seriously. Hallie and I founded a Facebook group to get the word out about donation. I have e-mailed my Path prof to change my research paper to organ donation. This is so important! I won't ask you to do anything for the FB group but even if I can pirate some of your info or whatever...it's just so important! Anyway, we'll talk, okay?

And Janie? We'll talk, too! Meet ya back here soon.

Janie! I'm likin' the way Gary thinks. You've gotta look at it in terms of possibilities. I don't know exactly what all they are yet, but I'll come up with something. Maybe Shand Painting will give us a two-for-one-deal on the spray painting of the concrete grass!

I'm so glad Davis has this guestbook, ML! :)

Hey Kim,

You sure you havent been talking to Gary cuz that is what he wants to do is congrete the whole yard so no grass cutting, not that he is here to do that either.

Janie Buckley <poohlady@cinci.rr.com>
Cincinnati, OH - Wednesday, April 22, 2009 5:19 PM CDT
In fact, it's so much fun, it's sorta like ML has her own private Facebook. Yoo hoo...where are you ML? Janie and I are here to talk...BWAHAHAHA!

Yes. I AM studying. I just needed a break.

Kim
~, ~ - Wednesday, April 22, 2009 4:34 PM CDT
BWAHAHAHAHAHA...poor Gary, bet he's really sad about the mulch! And I'm just sitting here trying to figure out who I'm gonna hire for mulch...and rocks...and shrubs...and such. I've been thinking...since I had the windows painted black, I could just go ahead and concrete the whole yard. Then call Shand Painting to come over and spray paint the whole shebang green. Voila...grass!

ML??? Janie??? Whaddya y'all think? Good idea? :)

p.s. a three-way conversation...this is fun!

Kim
~, ~ - Wednesday, April 22, 2009 4:32 PM CDT
Hi Kim,

Just to let you know that Gary lucked out and was already back up there when the windows were washed. And he is missing out on putting down the mulch. But that's ok, he gets to stain the deck when he comes home next month. LOL.

Me too! I believe I was #384,244 to listen to Susan--oh my! Beautemousness...completely. They had her on ET last night, in her little town in Scotland; I think she is a cutie patootie.

"Would You Like to Swing on A Star"...my grandma used to sing that to me when I was a little kid; that one and "Mairzy Doats." Know that one? I still get the warm fuzzies whenever I hear either one of them.

If I was Davis, I'd panic too. Which is why, I guess, I don't even know if I HAVE wisdom teeth. Nobody's ever said anything about them....BWAHAHAHA! I hope he feels better about it after you show him the film and explain it; that usually helps.

Going from 91% to 93%? Piece of cake for you. My prediction is, you will end up with 94.4%. ¢¾ :) ¢¾

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it could be kind of fun. I'm thinking that kind of role-playing is going to be quite different from that irritating role-playing they make you suffer through in customer service seminars (and which I refused to participate in, but that's another story for another time). You're gonna rock THIS role-playing scenario.

I wanna know more about your cancer panel; tell me about it sometime. I have projects, too. Thesis statements and outlines due this coming week. Already! OY.

Tests and dog puke. The Shandland fun just never stops, huh? Poor Kaela, not feeling good; poor you, having to deal with it. He's such a good boy, I hate when he feels bad.

Chocolate labs and fresh-baked bread, huh? Tracy's black lab managed to grab an ENTIRE freshly-baked tripleberry pie off the counter and hauled it 3/4's of the way down the steps before dropping it...and then eating the whole thing! It was a mess, but we all still had to marvel at the pup's mad pie-stealing skillz...HAHA! TRUE oinkers!

A Day Of Wonders
by John van de Laar

The darkness may try to hide it, God,
but this is truly Good Friday;
a day of endless miracle, of incredible wonder.
That you would welcome the beam to your shoulders,
and beckon the nails to your flesh,
to crucify darkness in your own fragmented body.
That you would hold the gaze of hatred,
look boldly in the face of evil
and speak the soft words of forgiveness.
That you would embrace in your paralysed arms
your hardened companion in death,
and all who would seek comfort in you.
Promising a world made new,
and an eternity brought into the present moment.
Yes, absolutely a day of wonders and miracles
and we are in awe before its beauty.
Amen.

Praying for your family as we remember the sacrifices God and Jesus made to give us eternal life. May you feel His presence in your life always!

Praying for your Dad and a speedy recovery! LOVED the presentation photo! Everytime I read about your nursing school adventures I am glad my odyssey was 20 plus years ago! Brave woman to do it with a family, you have heard me say multiple times!

So, when are you coming to NC to visit me???

Now, I can't be absolutely certain, but I'm thinking it is possible that, in Brett's circles, the moonboot slippers ARE formal attire for lawn-mowing! BWAHAHAHA! I don't think you need to worry until he starts wearing a suit and tie to school every day, and trades in his backpack for a briefcase. THAT'S trouble! :)

I'm so excited for tomorrow. SQUEE!!! Have fun with the trach'ing. From here on in, I'm not letting you get anywhere near my throat when you have a ballpoint pen in your hand. You could turn into Nurse Rached. Just sayin'...

Does Brett like the Beethoven CD? If so, tell him to pick up Vivaldi's Four Seasons, it's my favorite. I also have a lot of Bach, Pachelbel, Wagner and Handl; if he wants, he can borrow mine to put on iTunes for his iPod. Or maybe he was just goofing around? I get all excited when I hear of someone else who likes classical.

I loved reading about the boys' nicknames; I think Dare-Bear is so cute! They were all so cute! I wish I would have know them as little boys...

Another good prepared idea for you is Jennie-O flavored turkey breasts. They take 30-40 minutes to bake and have a great flavor. Got to taste it at Sam's and bought their double pack PLUS the package is marked gluten free which is always a big thing for us! Each package has two nice size chunks of meat. The single package made two meals for our family of three.

Oh, I am so with you on the exhaustion! There is nothing like feeling dumb and inadequate to tire a person out. The other night I turned all of the lights out and went to bed. Completely forgot to turn the TV off. Scared me half to death when I got up in the middle of the night to pee. The worst part is, I just stumbled back to bed and still didn't turn it off. Yikes.

Good thing it's the weekend; hopefully, you can get in a little R & R.

Okay, you did it...guilted me into signing to say "hi." But since we chatted by email, I didn't sign the guestbook lately. How is the gluten free eating going? Are you going to see about having the test?

Actually, I'm starting to feel just a little bit powerful...I HAVE CONQUERED THE GUESTBOOK! BWAHAHAHA! Are you sick to death of looking at the guestbook and just seeing my drivel? I can stop if you want, but you'll have to ask first. Otherwise, I shall remain...

Were you talking about "Church Basement Ladies"? I have heard that's really funny, and if it's MN humor you're looking for, that's the one to see--hot dishes, jello salad, and lots of Norwegian church ladies.

I'll be thinking of you as you start your patient care; I think you are going to be really great at this and I can't wait to hear about it. You are actually, really going to be making a difference in someone's life...how cool is that? Pretty darn cool, I think. Your patient will be lucky to have gotten you.

OINK oinkoink OINK. Translation? As I'm typing (keying?) this, you are either busy ace'ing your test, or getting ready to ace your test. I know you will. Prayers have been said! And, yes, as a matter of fact...I am basically doing the same thing today. My head hurts from so much of it!

YOU GO, MY LITTLE TEST-TAKER-EXTRAORDINAIRE FRIEND!!! bwaha...

Fresh baked bread? You have some? Hehehe...

That is quite the little line-up of test subjects you have there! We are going to need to chat re the fat embolism thing and the septic arthritis, or whatever they were. That is a lot of complicated info to cram into your head in order to be spit out on just ONE test! Four tests, yes. One test, no. Pssshh! My suggestion is copious amounts of java and, periodically throughout the day, ginger snaps.

You and me? We're doing the exact same thing today, but I still feel sorrier for you. Even though you WILL ace that test, just like always.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Regarding The Two Fartski Brothers...back in the Super 70's--chuckle**snort**chuckle--there was a song by Todd Rundgren called "We Gotta Get You A Woman." It's pretty much a classic. Change it to "We Gotta Get Them Some Women" and maybe...just maybe...The Two Fartski Brothers will once again be fit to sit next to in the movie theater. BWAHAHAHAHA.

What a couple of hoots! Darn good thing they're cute...

I'm glad you're going into the #1 field; that means you won't mind when I come pitch my tent in your backyard, right? BWAHAHAHA! It's all gonna be JUST FINE...

I had to laugh about your dried hydrangea petals all over the place; you should see the "carpet" in my cube from all the dried, crumbled pointsettia leaves! It'll be interesting to see if it gets cleaned up before I leave!

As I already said, my thoughts and prayers with you at 1...

Kim

On Friday, my thoughts and prayers will be with your friend and her family. And also with you because, you're right, it is going to be hard.

The thing that will get you through it is knowing how much it is going to mean to her, just having you there. You knew her brother, you know her whole family as she knows yours, and you are her best friend; your presence is going to be worth more than you'll probably ever know. I'm so glad she will not have to go through this "alone" as this is one of those times when, no matter who else is around, you just need your best friend.

It's a blessing that you are that to her.

Hey you...wish I had read your journal about two minutes ago. I just sat down with yogurt, blackberries and granola...should've made a smoothie.
So you made me chuckle this morning, not a very nice friend when it was at how crappy your day was!
Would love for you guys to visit us this summer! You will certainly have to keep me up to date on the travel plans! Great schools in CO!
Stay safe...

OMG, that fall at work! That clicked in my head as soon as I read it! I really, really hope you hear back from the neurosurgeon dude today so you can get an appointment. It's kind of nerve-wracking not to know what's going on.

In the meantime, a good blueberry smoothie never hurts. Darn, that sounds good. The ham and mustard on a rice cake even sounds good; I'm one of the weirdos that actually LIKES rice cakes. Never thought of making a sandwich out of one, though. Thanks for the tip. BWAHAHAHA!

DeLurking once again ML. Just checking in. Glad things are going so well. Glad Davis is feeling well too. I can only imagine what Brett has in mind for the snow puff thing at school. I am sure that you will have picture evidence of that endeavor any day now. LOL. At least he always keeps you smiling....as he does himself. You have to admire that. :o) Have agreat day ML and good luck with school.

I just cannot say it enough times; you are going to EXCEL at this. From the very beginning of when I started getting to know you, I knew you were meant for this work. As your friend, I am so proud of you; for all of the hard work, all of the "doing what needs to be done" even when it's a huge inconvenience, all of the going outside your comfort zone. In fact, if this was a different time and you were 19 and in your first year of school, I would say to you, "after you get your RN, go for the MD." I really would.

Always know that if you ever need encouragement, I'm not only here for that, but I MEAN it. This is IT, ML; this is the real thing, and I'm so excited for you.

OH ML, How I wish I was pulling chest tubes and catheters (serioulsy) it is so much fun to get in there and DO, especially after all of the book stuff (YUCK)! I will never forget my first scrubbed in surgery when I pulled a vein out of a leg. I can still hear the surgeon yell at me to "pull it girl" (I had stopped when I met HUGE resistance) and the sucking sound it made...I was HOOKED! Chest tubes make a similar noise! You are in for a LOT of fun...I promise!

How many grains in a mL? Well, none...because mL is allergic! Get it? Grains...ML...food allergies? BWAHAHAHAHA!

I would so totally ace that test. Not. But you will, because you are smart and good at that stuff. I bow to you. :) Good luck on the test, even though you don't need it...

It is always so nice to hear from you...........and the comment you made in Katie's Guestbook was lovely. It seems though...........we both have miracles with our children. I was so delighted to hear that Davis was asked to be on a panel to answer questions of Survivors....... I also encourage Katie to share her story and allow others some hope in their own journeys. I will keep you in my prayers for your own struggles......with your shoulder.......and I can always identify with tax prep. Ha ha ha....

I swear, that young man just gets more and more handsome as time goes on! That is amazing that he said yes to being on the panel; what a great opportunity for the future nurses to hear it straight from one who went through it, and I also think it will be good for him. Even if he doesn't realize it now, someday he will.

Jeff, Darrel and Davis on a road trip, huh? OMG! BWAHAHAHA!

BWAHAHAHA...Jeff, Darrel, Davis and Brett left, but Akaela, Trixie, Kenzie and Cleo stayed. There are times, I'm sure, when it would seem like an excellent trade...BWAHAHAHA!

What a fantastic picture of all four puppies; how on earth did you get them all corraled like that, long enough to snap the pic? Good job! I still would love to be a fly on the wall in your house right about now, watching you go on about your day with the four puppies. That's some conversation, I bet!

In case I don't see you before it ends, have a wonderful 2009. BWAHAHAHAHA...I am especially clever and witty today.
