Awesome update! Everything is well with Katey, too, just keepin up with her crazy schedule--hostin, payin, chaufferin :) The 7yr mark is awesome, who would have thought our kids could be this busy with just normal 7th grade things...
Yes I also believe that what has happened to our families is for future good, I know you will do wonderfully with the families that are blessed to have you help them thru counseling. Still thinkin of you all fondly~

Hey Kyle!

It's good to see that you're whipping this cancer thing! I hope things have gone well for you in the six months since the last journal update.

Looking at your photo album, it seems to me you could be famous if you had nailed that big guy behind you, stuck him in a freezer, and put his picture on the internet. Maybe you could still do it - it hasn't been done in a week or two, and people have short memories.

Hi Heath Family! Kyle I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know I still think of you ALL the time! I check your website often for updates but haven't left a note in a while so I thought today would be a good day! You sure do make a handsome cowboy!! I can't believe how much time has gone by since we spent lots of time together in kindergarten! I remember your silly sense of humor and beautiful smile and by the looks of your pictures you still have that smile that will light up a room! And I'm sure you still have to humor to keep everyone laughing!! I hope school is off to a good start for you and you have a fantastic year Kyle! Take Care and I hope to see you soon! Love Mrs. Wood

Beth,
I somehow came across you journal and do know what courage it takes to have a child that is fighting. My best friend lost her daughter 3 years ago this week to a very rare liver cancer. I actually knew Abby Delisa-Slovey as well. I worked with her for a couple of years and we were pregnant and the same time together with our daughters. She actually had a baby shower for me and bought the sweetest little blanket. I think of her and her family every time I look at it and was devistated of the news and was saddened that I didnt find out in time to say good-bye.

Do you know that you were the first baby that any of my friends had and that I held?!?! Your Dad video-taped me holding you the night you were born and crying my eyes out because I was so overwhelmed by the miracle of you!

Hello Beth,
No email or caringbridge address on your last posting but I'm quite sure it was you.
It was so much easier when he was little, now that he is 16, he has so many legal rights! He can choose and make decisions and there should be some allowance to me due to his health conditions but no...So frustrating. Just like his g/f's parents. They can't buy booze or smokes @ 16 but they are legally intitled to make desicions about how, where, when and whom they live with.
It's been very hard to cope with...
Thank you for the support, as always.

Much thoughts and prayers your way from our home.

Hi Beth,
I just wanted to check on you & Kyle. I'm sure recent events have been difficult for your entire family. I truly feel that Kyle is a blessing and a wonderful success story. He is the inspiration to other kids with cancer and/or major illnesses. I am so grateful that I have my Jacob (and of course my daughter, Jessica) and can't even imagine how the actual loss and emptiness would feel. You are a wonderful mother and a great friend to all. Let me know if I can ever help out in your quest to spread the word for a cure. See you at school. Tammy Grosso

Hello Heath Family,
I just wanted to introduce myself. We really do live in a very small world. I am a neighbor to the Bergens in Lexington and am the Sect/Treas. of our association but what I really think is neat is that my cousin Kurt Heythaler is your neighbor and that you know my beautiful Aunt Sal through St. Joans Church. When I received the flyer on Zoe's benefit I noticed you lived on Burlwood and emailed Kurt to ask if he knew of you. Lo and behold your neighbors. I really want to thank you for the beautiful job you did on Zoes benefit. Take care and God Bless and keep you all safe and healthy.

Well, finally, we are back and I am able to check on all the kids we know. Gosh, it seemed like we were gone a lifetime. I actually feel like I live in Baltimore and now it is just an extension of the Detroit area... silly, eh?

I wish we were going too, but Emerald is definitely not up to it. Hopefully, she will make it back to school next week. We are looking for visitors... so if you can make it over, that would be great.

Hi, this is Emerald's mom. Sorry, it has been a rough couple weeks. I forgot to come back and leave a message. How very cool that you go to the same school. We actually live about a block out of district... so we drive Emerald every day. Last year they didn't have school of choice so she was at the district we were assigned to. She misses riding the bus, but she likes Carkenord better. Me too, they are much more together. Anyway, that is why she isn't in the year book!

I am glad to hear that Kyle is doing so well. Emerald and I are supposed to do a craft show at Lanse Creuse North this weekend... I sell soap. So if you are out and about, I would love to meet a fellow cancer mom, kid, cankenord student, camp quality goer... LOL

OK, well that is about enough from me!

Dear Beth and Family, It's been awhile since I've checked this site. Seeing Kyle bopping by in the halls at school is so wonderful! I was drawn back to this site after hearing the news about baby Zoe. I am so sorry to hear about your father passing away over the summer. (So sorry for my belated sympathy!) Please continue to keep me posted on Zoe's condition. The Bergen family always reminded me so much of your family....great kids, helpful and caring mom's, and cheery and fun-loving dads!!! Anyways, I just can't understand how this can happen to two families the way it did! As you stated many times in your posts, Cancer Sucks!! I plan to add Zoe to the the prayer list at my church. Thank you for passing the info along.

Just received a call from one of my twins who are 21 now who was having side pains and could not figure out what it was that was causing the pain, he has always called me when he is ill and still calls me just so I can talk to him about it, some habits stay with you and should, His name is Adam he had Wilms tumor when he was 18 months old, and had his kidney removed with a the two pound malignant tumor, and went through about a year of chemo, and a lot of scary moments.

He never had another issue with it other then all the check ups or did his twin ever have any signs of wilms, and really never been ill at all.
That's what brought me to your site today just checking on Wilms Tumor and read your site, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family, it was not a easy thing to get through but hope is very strong with this illness and so are the advances that they have made in the last twenty years.

My younger brother who has three children two girls and a boy, also went through this 14 years after I did with his 6 year old daughter, the same thing as my son, they still said that it is not hereditary at the time that two brothers off spring would have wilms tumor, two weeks after my brothers daughter last chemo treatment his three year old daughter had surgery for the same thing, his son who is three shows no signs at this point at all.
Every one is doing fine and are past the two year mark after the last treatment.
Our family is on a study with the university of Texas to try and see what could be a common gene or DNA or what could tie these three together with the wilms tumor, no real good info as far as I know yet. By the way we all grew up in Southern Wisconsin.

I will check on this in the next couple of weeks and if interested can get you connected with my brothers wife who has been on top of this more then I have, who also is a nurse.
I know it was very comforting to be able to talk to other families that went through it when we were going through it.

The note was left to give you a positive note that hope is real and the strength of your family joining together to deal with this will get you through it.
Good luck and our prayers are with you.

First, I am so sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. It is so hard to lose loved ones.
Second, Congratulations on your clear scans!!! Remission is awesome!

I came accross your site on the MFCC board, and wanted to come by and say hello.
We are waiting for our M-A-W trip to give kids the world to be approved. I can't wait. It will be Hadley's frist trip to a Disney park. I think she'll love it, and GKTW looks like it is truly a magical place, as well. So glad to hear of one more family who had an awesome time there. Congrats again!!! ~angela fox~

Dear Heath Family,
I found this site through the CSN and have just read your journal of the past year and your journey of treatment. I just want to tell you that Kyle sounds like one brave little boy. My prayer for you is that Kyle remains in the 90% that do not have a relapse.
I have recently been diagnosed (on April Fool's Day) with breast cancer, had a lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy on May 14th, and found out on the 19th that the lump had clear margins and the nodes were clear. I don't even know yet what will happen next ... chemo, radiation, who knows. Whatever is in store for me I know that Kyle's story will be an inspiration for me, to remind me to keep my chin up and just deal with it.
I have a favorite saying that I would like to share with ya'll. You can complain because rosebushes have thorns, or rejoice because thornbushes have roses. I choose to rejoice.
I close this with loving thoughts and prayers,
Betty Ruth

Hi Everyone,

We will see you shortly when Brian gets married. I am so pleased to hear Kyle remains clear. My doctor cleared me again last week. Another year free of cancer thanks to God and modern medicine. Lila and I are getting ready for our trip to Ireland. We will be staying in Sligo with my cousin Nuala. We will see all of the family while there. Beth, Nuala is your first cousin, once removed. We will see many of your second cousins when we are there. We will journey to my maternal and paternal grandparents' graves. This has been a long, long time ambition for me. I do so wish I had known them when they were alive. I am named after my maternal grandfather ( your great grandfather) Thomas Dunne. His wife was Ellen. My paternal grandfather (your great grandfather) was Eugene Brady, his wife was Mary Jane. Love, Uncle Tom

Beth & Kyle,

Beth, thanks so much for signing my son's web page (Josh). It is so wonderful to hear from families that have been through what you are dealing with. It is so great to hear Kyle is doing so well. We are waiting to hear from the surgeons on a date for surgery to remove Josh's tumor and part of his kidney. We wish your family a very happy Holiday Season. We will pray that Kyle continues to do so well.

Hi Kyle,

I love your photos! You and your brother are cuties!!! I am also so happy that you had an AWESOME time at Disney. We've been four times in the last 4 years. Twice we went for Savannah's wish for completing treatment, and then we just went again in September when she relapsed...a little picker-upper! We LOVE it there! Everytime I hear about someone planning a wish to Disney...or returning from one...I get the chills and tears!!! The trip is AMAZING.

GKTW is the most wonderful place on earth! We went in 2002 and when we were there they told everyone that you could come back to visit, find your star, have ice cream, etc... I hope that is still the case. It's not the same as staying there, but would still be lots of fun. Mayor Clayton tucked Cameron in too and he thought that was soooo cool! Your journal entry has brought back lots of great memories. Thanks. Hope things continue to go well and Kyle, you are one handsome young man! ;-)

Hi Kyle and Family,

Love the new picture collage you have up, its very cool! Katey thinks you look handsome in your school pix :> We are glad to hear you are doing so well in school, WTG! Beth, I know how you felt when Kyle was complaining of his tummy hurting. Katey did the same thing last night and my mouth ran dry. We had tests done not too long ago and everything was okay. Its hard but I try not to think about relapse. It can happen but we just pray for strength every day. Its hard knowing what the kids have to go thru in their fight with cancer. We will certainly be praying for your 2 special friends along with all the kids we've met along the way. Kyle, we are praying for you to stay strong and healthy. LotsaHugs to you all~

I came across your web site while researching Wilms. My daughter was diagnosed six weeks ago. What a beautiful story and how wonderful to read your comments. You are right - it is so ncessary to read these stories of the journies of other children when your own child is suffering from cancer. I pray and hope that your son remains cancer free. I will look forward to reading updates.

Hello to the Heaths,

Hey Kyle, it's great to hear you are enjoying KKC and meeting new friends, its great to be able to be by others who understand, but incredibly hard to know that there are new members. Beth, I can totally relate with the struggle with having a job vs. being home more, we've traveled that road before. Its a blessing that I only work one sometimes two days a week. We pray that all will be well with the decisions you have to make, just know that God Loves You and will help you in all ways when you trust in Him...We think of you often and pray that Kyle continues to stay well and that all goes well with the rest of the family. Hello Beth, Kyle, and Family! This is the first time I've checked your page all summer. Shanna is recovering from her transplant very well, and is back at home. It sounds like Kyle is doing great and is on the road to healing! First grade can be a little rough. My Nathaniel comes home wiped out every day. Kyle, you're a real trooper! Your little body is still healing from the chemo and your in there with the rest of the first graders! I'm so proud of you! Say "hello" to everyone at Dr. Sawaf/Lorenzana's office for us. Maybe we will get to meet someday soon. I will be taking Paige to the Burdi center on Fridays for preschool preview (I read in your journal that Bryan went over the summer). Just wanted to say "Hi", and I thank God that Kyle is doing so well. Like I read on another child's web page: "Kids should be playing, NOT fighting cancer!"

Dear Beth,
Thank you so much for stopping by on ANGEL COLBY'S site. Caringbridge and the support generated thru it has helped to carry me thru ANGEL COLBY'S 17 month battle for his life and now the aftermath of his passing. It really means a lot to me. We will keep you all in our prayers and ask for clear reports all the way thru this dreaded journey you all must travel. Sending lots of love from above - ANGEL COLBY JAMES COLE AND CREW.

Hi Kyle, I hope you are doing ok after this chemo treatment.
That yucky ol' chemo is rough stuff, but it will also help you get better. A canoe trip sounds fun. I bet you'll have lots of fun at camp too. Cameron got to go to a camp last year and he had a blast, I'm sure you will also.
Praying that you are feeling good -

Hello. I am happy to hear that the physical therapy is helping little Kyle. Hope everything else is going well. I was very touched by littel Hunters story too when I read it. It is unfortunate that he did lose his battle, as many kids do! My daughter Kamryn just completed treatments on July 21st for ST IV FH Wilm's Tumor, DX 2-3-2003. I would love to share with you Kamryn's site and there is lots of info that I got from Kamryn's ONC DOC in my posting on July 22, 2003. I will keep Kyle in my prayers.

Hello Kyle and Beth,

We will be praying for counts to get better and for you Kyle to stay healthy and strong in the meantime. So glad to hear the foot drop is getting better. Beth, you are right that the internet has been a wonderful way to get in touch with others going thru the same thing...we learn to fight the battles together instead of alone. Hunter was indeed a very special person to show so much courage throughout his fight. We will remember him always...Prayers for all our special kids and wonderful parents. Much love and hugs to you, our friends~

Hello Kyle and Beth,

We sure hope that Kyle's foot drop gets better real soon so you all can complete therapy. Hopefully you and the boys are out having some great summer fun. We will be praying that treatment so far has already won the battle against the cancer and anything else is just a little extra insurance. Craig, we'll be praying for your dad as well in hopes he recovers well. Its amazing how many curve balls this life can throw at us but just remember that He is always walking with us and sometimes picks us right up when the going is really rough--Trust Him to see you through it. Praying for you all always...

After reading about Kyle in the voice, I had to let you know that there is life after cancer. 22 years ago, at age eight, I was diagnosed with bone cancer. The doctor's told my parents that I only had a twenty percent chance of making it to my 18th birthday, yet here I am at thirty years old, with a two year old little girl. Don't ever loose faith, even in the darkest moments.

I bet you had a good time at your Grama and Grampa's house while mom and dod were gone. It sure sounds like you enjoy swimming. I sent your mom some pictures of a Muscox, from here in Alaska to her e-mail address. Make sure you get to see them. I hope you got the pictures of the dear and bear I sent you. I hope to meet you one day soon. Your mom and I used to go camping and swimming together in a lake. She also had a pool in her backyard when she was growing up, and when I would come up and see her we would get to go swimming. We always had a good time. Hi Guys,
O.K., I can't stand it, so Craig, how much does it cost to have an extra tail?! We are so thrilled that you at least received some alone time, we all need that every now and then. Beth, you continue to amaze me, your strength and sense of humor, along with your loving ways are still intact. Maybe a little challenged sometimes, but it seems to have only made you stronger. We are ALL doing well, and thank you for your concern. You are such a doll, and we love you. Kyle and Bryan, next time we see you we are going to look and see if you are hiding fins and gills. I bet mom has to pull you out of the pool before merman (male version of mermaid?!) tails grow. Hang in there, and our thoughts, love, and angels are with you always. Love you.

Beth, Craig, Bryan and Kyle - I'm so glad things seem to be going well for you guys. I can only imagine how each day brings new "challenges" for all of you. I loved reading about how things are going and think about you guys often. Camp and Karate sounds great! Kyle is a real fighter!!! (and so are his parents and brother). Maureen and I still want to come by and visit or take you to lunch. Hang in there you guys! Please call if you need ANYTHING! I will keep you guys in our prayers! P.S. My friend Carin Madigan works at the cancer center you guys go to. She has tried to stop by and see you guys but seem to miss you every week. If you ever need anything please let her know. She's a sweetie!! XOXOX

You know I am going to tickle you silly...and you too Bryan, so watch out :) All my love always, Aunt Pam
