Great news on the insurance! Too bad you have to use it so much :/. I hope this round of feeling nasty is a short one. I am glad that your kitty is so friendly and affectionate. I have a leapord named Leo (Leonardo Late Leapord) that I got when I was six. Okay, it's stuffed but he has been on every hospital stay ;) I hope this is a better week.

Just a note to say hi! I saw you at church two weeks ago, but there are always so many people to say hello to that we never even made it downstairs. I loved your skirt, though. :) I feel like a broken record, because I think I say this all the time, but I just want you to know that I think of you and hate that you still have to be sick. I'm not sure if it helps to know that I relate somewhat from my years of sickness - but I feel like I can somewhat (although I can never know really what it is like for you). You are so strong, but I also just wanted to say to feel free to reach out, break down, and not be so strong for a while. Let me or people at the church know if we can help in any way.

We should have coffee after church some time. We have visitors this week, but let's be in touch. I'll be in touch with W's mom goes home (she is visiting). Sending you healing love and hope and warm thoughts and cute mental penguins. :) All the very very best, E

Hi Annie,
Sleep is always good and helps the body heal, so that's a good thing.
You have given me a lot of food for thought regarding IV Doxy and the pump. I have been doing it during the day, but perhaps doing it at night would be easier. Definitely something to experiment with. Thanks for all of the insight you are giving. Hope you are having a Happy Memorial Day.

Mother's Day Prayer
God our Creator, we pray
for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibilities,
for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting,
for those who are tired, stressed or depressed,
for those who struggle to balance the task of work and family,
for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty,
for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities,
for those who have children they do not want,
for those who raise children on their own,
for those who have lost a child,
for those who care for the children of others,
for those whose children have left home,
and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender,
and that they may lead their children to knkow and do what is good,
living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others.
Amen.

Hi Annie,
I loved the pictures. Some made me a bit hungry. Looks delicious.
Here are some things that lyme CANT do.
Lyme is so limited...
It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot eat away peace,
It cannot destroy confidence,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot shut out memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot reduce eternal life,
It cannot quench the spirit,
It cannot lessen the power
of the resurrection.

God loves you!

Hang in there and keep fighting, Annie.

Hi Annie,

I'm Bob Giguere the Director of Sales for IGeneX.

I got a call from someone a week or so ago about an upcoming meeting in RI where they wanted me to come and hand out IGeneX Lyme Disease literature, as well as answer questions about testing. (I often give talks at Lyme Support group meetings throughout the Northeast).

Do you know anyone who is in charge of a Lyme support group in RI?

Thank You,

Hi Annie. I was so sad to read about the lost of sweet Elise. Cats are such important people in our lives and I know, no matter how expected it might be, it is very hard to lose a feline friend. I am a big believer in cat afterlife, so I like to imagine her getting to know other kitties that have gone on while they munch on heavenly catnip and chase toys and play in the sun. I am also sorry to hear that you continue to struggle with health issues. I know there is really very little I can say to make it even a smidge better, but do know that I admire your strength, and the way you don't give up, and stay mostly positive and hopeful. I know that it is difficult. You are quite a sunshine in the world and it comes through even on your journal. I hope that you find healing and that things improve soooooon. Much peace, Elizabeth

It's the time of year when we're reminded to give thanks.
Instead of waiting until next year to be reminded,
Let's make every day one of thanksgiving;
After all, each day is a unique gift.
So, give a hug for no reason;
Say I love you, just because;
Share a smile with a stranger;
Take the time to count your blessings;
Don't take anything or anyone for granted;
And end each day with no regrets.
Thank you, my friends and family,
For sharing, caring, laughing and crying with me.
I'm truly blessed to have each and every one of you in my life
And I am thankful you have allowed me
To be a part of yours.
May you and yours have a safe and memorable Thanksgiving.

I hope that you are reading this comment at home. Yay for Florida. I know that will be good for you. Grrr. It makes me mad about that difficult doctor and the fact that your main doctor isn't able to be in on things as much as should obviously be the case. Does this mean you won't have fevers anymore? That they figured out what that is and they will be gone? I hope so. I probably need to reread things more carefully. At any rate, I am thinking of you and hope you are doing better. You are quite the trooper. Hugs hugs, Elizabeth

Dearest Annie,
I just read the whole update about hospital admission and so on. Gosh, you just don't get any breaks, huh? Please know that I am thinking about you. Would you like anything announced to church people? I can email Tricia if you like. I just know that everyone would want to send you well wishes, but if you want to keep it low-key, no problemo. Annie (our cat) is sitting with me and said to tell human Annie that if she could go into the hospital in your place she would and that she suggests you eat two cans of tuna and maybe you will feel better. It always makes her feel better.
:)

Hi Annie,
Hoping the TEE goes well tomorrow (I had one back in 2005 when I had fungal sepsis...ironically while I was in Boston!). I'm glad they removed the port and hope that things start looking up for you.... That body of yours needs to get the message of "NO MORE fevers"!! Thinking of you....Please update when you can.

I'm so very sorry that you are going through all this. It sounds like you have been having a rough go of it. Oh Annie, I am so sorry you are still dealing with those nasty fevers. I honestly can't imagine how awful you must feel. Fevers just suck the life right out of me, especially those really high ones. I have also noticed that fevers/infections often drop my counts and I have frequently needed blood transfusions (well, not frequently--twice) when I have had fevers/infections.

Take things one day at a time, but I am hoping--and praying--that you will start to feel better soon.

Wish I could do more that would be helpful! :(

Hi Annie,
I am so sorry you are going through this. I knew of you from the LymeOut retreats and just came across your blog and read your story. What a survivor you are! Just wondering if you ever tried herbs to accompany the antibiotics? Stephen Buhner, author of Healing Lyme, answers questions about his protocol on my website PlanetThrive.com. Here is a link to his column:
http://planetthrive.com/cgi-bin/members/pub9990215891170.cgi?categoryid=9990235248536 Many with Lyme have found relief from symptoms through these herbs, taken alone or with antibiotic treatment. Just wanted to let you know about it. Praying for you and hoping you feel better soon! Julie www.PlanetThrive.com

Hi Annie-

Just wanted to share a product that helps with Lyme Disease. You don't know me, but I came across your site through another Caring Bridge site. Check out this product at my website www.limufreaks.com. It is seaweed that contains a super-nutrient called fucoidan. Fucoidan in only found in sea plants. You can check out fucoidan at www.pubmed.gov. The best part about limu is that it is a super-food, so it does not have any side effects like medications. I have been drinking "Orginal Limu" for 5 years and my grandbaby, who is 3, has been drinking limu since he was 10 months old. I can send you a sample if you would like to taste this gift from the sea. Your address would be secure with me as I am a Postmaster. I live in Lamar MO. Please call me if you have questions.

Happy Day

Thank you for your inspirational words and hope for everyone affected by this disease. I have a 20 year old son who is struggling with Lyme disease after finally being diagnosed 2 years ago. He has not improved despite the long journey of antibiotics, supplements and numerous physicians with the hope of feeling better. I pray that your website and support can help him and others realize that they need to keep fighting and not give up. I have also been diagnosed with Lyme and understand the struggles with this disease but I was one of the fortunate ones ( or so I am told) who got the rash and was treated I believe successfully. Little did I know that this disease that affected me in 1994 would re-surface in 1998 and 2006 to plague our family again. I need to continue advocating for my son and all those affected by this disease and you have inspired me to keep moving forward. I only hope my son can find his inner strength to do the same. It is people like yourself Annie who I thank for sharing your story to help others cope and realize they are not alone. I will share your story and website with my son who is in dire need of a peer support group with people his age. Thank you again and I wish you all the best!

Hi Annie,
My mom told me about your caringbridge. I too have lyme disease. I've been sick for the past two in a half years so I can completely sympathize with what you've had to go through. I can't imagine having it as long as you have though. You're such a strong person and deserve to have your life back, but most importantly your health. That is so cool that you give swimming lessons. I LOVE swimming. I haven't been able to for a really long time though because of this disease. I can't imagine how you've been able to go to collge and graduate with everything you've had to deal with.

I hope to hear from you :) You're in my thoughts and prayers.

I was glad to hear I am not alone with these fevers! They are awful. I get a lot of pain with mine..I just hurt so bad all over..and the pain calms down as soon as the fever calms down. So yours are running about the same as mine are. wow..that's crazy! I haven't spoken again to my Doctor but I bet he will think the same thing because he treated me for Babisiosis but I didn't think I was on the medicine long enough. A month is all I was on the Mepron. I hope you and I both can get over these annoying fevers...it make it such a pain and hard to do anything. That's a crazy flightplan! I am really happy for you on the apartment. I really hope this living situation is better for you. I really think you should get a blood culture of your port and you. Sepsis can be very serious...I am surprised that your doc hasn't at least placed you on IV lipids or even supplementary TPN or gone the J tube route(has to be J tube to bypass the gastroperesis). I know you said that you have 'some to lose' but you could still be malnourished and vitamin deficient. Even obese people (and you certainly are NOT obese) can have vitamin deficiency and be malnourished...That blacking out incident sounds very scary...I hope you have a good visit.

Yuck-sorry about all those fevers and pains. I had four line infections-two that went into my bloodstream. I kept the same port until the fourth when it was deemed that I no longer needed it. They DON'T have to remove the port. Something called a vanco lock can eliminate the bacteria from the line. It's a dilution of vancomyacin in heparin. I hope you start feeling better...Best of luck with the new apartment.

Hi Annie,
UGH....worried about you with those fevers. When you said that they go up when you start infusing sometimes, that is a HUGE red flag that it could be a line infection. I have heard that countless times from others who have line infections. Hoping you are okay and if it is an infection, you are getting treated with IV antibiotics. Even if the blood cultures are negative, they should be repeating them frequently if you're still running fevers....sometimes blood cultures can actually be negative even when someone is septic, especially if they were taken when the person wasn't actively febrile at that very moment. So confusing, I know! At any rate, know I am thinking of you and hope you are feeling better. Please update when you feel up to it.....

I hope the new apartment works out for you. Being comfortable at 'home' makes things much more pleasant...Not to push aside your concerns (I hate that) but I don't think you need to worry about your port and the kids. I have spent my whole life answering questions from the wheelchair to my Dad in the bathroom to the trach and suctioning. Little kids are usually very understanding and once they know they usually don't continually bring it up. They will just better understand their cool teacher.

Hey, I'm sorry that I haven't stopped by in forever and further sorry that this is entierly a self serving mission. I am n the hospital right now with acute Neuro symproms (as well as others) that I've had for 4 months. The Dr.'s swear it isn't Neuro even though I'm a neuro patient and I've had these symptoms in the past with problems but umm whatever that's a fight for later today. What I was wondering from you was, how long does it take for symptoms to develop with Lyme? I'm wondering because IF they are right that it's not my usual stuff, the precipitating event was an out door service event where we were gardening etc. so I figure...idk Neurologic Lyme worth looking into? I hate feeling like I have to be my own Dr. ugh! Once this mess is over I will most certainly come back on a social call, promise! <3

Happy belated "Lyme-anniversary" ;) I guess it could sound weird to some people to "celebrate" (well, celebrate is a big word) that kind of anniversary, but when you get sick, you see things differently...! I could relate to your entry, oh yes I could (hit the 11 yr mark with Crohn's in november)! I hope the next decade brings you more good days than bad ones, and that the future you are planning will surprise with you great things.

May your troubles be few — if any,
May the days and years that lie ahead
Be healthy, happy, and many,
May you have friends in abundance,
May the sun shine bright around you.
May the world be a wonderful place to live,
And may God's love always surround you.

Annie,
Your snowy pictures are beautifull we are still waiting here in PA for our snow, we have had ice, which is pretty but not nice to deal with. I read your most recent posting and it brought tears to my eyes. Dustin is now going on his 3rd year and I have to keep asking myself, how much longer?? and can we do this much longer? Then I read your 10 year journey and how you have suffered terribly but have SURVIVED- God bless you for your strength and courage to get through your journey, I hope we have the same to get Dustin through his journey. It is very bothersome to see all of your Lyme patient friends struggle with this disease and so many of them because they were not treated properly as you and Dustin have both experience. I truly hope 2008 brings you joy, better health and the continued strength to continue your journey.

What an inspiration you are to me....
I have Lyme, Bartonella, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, POTS, and a few other things....I have been on this journey for 10 yrs now, but was finally diagnosed in Feb 06. I have had almost the same path as you...which I found interesting. After getting my port put in and taking Rocephin I had to have my gallbladder out...it was infected, had multiple stones and partial obstruction...a week later I had to have ERCP done on my bile duct-they punctured my pancreas...and I got pancreatitis. This happened two more times. The last time they perfed my intestinal wall....and I was in the hospital over a week.
I am looking at going to KC to DR Ryser and hopefully she will be able to get this done once and for all.
I pray you will continue to improve and I would love to email if you can.

Hi Annie!

I got the link to your page through my friend, Malisa M, CB site. You really are an inspiration to me, and I can see that we have so much in common, not only medically but personality wise as well.

Unfortanately due to all my GI issues Tufts NEMC has become my second home, so I must say that seeing the famous FAO bear brought back some wonderful memories of the extraordinary warmth and care which I recieved while there!

btw, who is your GI doc there?? I wonder if we use the same one. Maybe we can meet sometime while i'm up there?!

Hi Annie
It was so great to get to meet you in person on Wed. I had a lot of fun getting to hang out with you for a few hours. Yes I agree it was nice to know when we were walking down the street with our IVs, backpacks and pumps that no one was looking at just ME--there were 2 of us. Hmm - I wonder if the people we passed on the street thought that the IV and backpack paraphernalia was our Halloween costumes (LOL) since it was Halloween and we matched. Wish it was that simple.

I hope your GI stuff settles down soon. Thanks for coming to visit my mom and I at the hotel. I really enjoyed spending time with you. Mom says hello and glad that she got to me you.

Take care. Talk to you soon
Hugs

Hi, Annie!
I'm so sorry you're not feeling great. I hope your job is going well, though! Living with strangers can be difficult, but I'm sure that it will get better in time (hopefully they're not partying every night til 3 am, right?), especially the awkwardness of some day-to-day issues.
I hope you're feeling better soon.

Annie,
I just love the picture of you and Dudley. Dustin's brother who is now 16 did this exact same thing in Kindergarten, but it was with a bear named Arthur. We have like a whole album of "Arthur" pictures and his adventures and Brian still talks about it and it happened 10 years ago. Hope you are feeling well. Dustin is doing pretty good. Take Care!

hi annie! it's so great to read all your exciting updates! and how awesome that you live in (or near) boston now; i usually try to visit at least a couple/few times a year, as two of my closest friends live in cambridge.

as for me, i haven't been doing all that great, healthwise; part of the up-and-down rollercoaster of this damn disease, i guess. i have an appt with dr. e in NJ on monday, so i'm looking forward to that (though i'm a little nervous as well!).

maybe i'll see you sometime in the coming months.. that would be really wonderful. in the meantime, take good care of yourself amidst all the crazy busyness!

hi annie- it sounds discouraging, and frankly, i don't know how you hold up as well as you do emotionally- chronic illness is just plain hard on your emotional health-but i'm glad you can vent on this page, to get it out and get some cyber loving !!!!
and yes, who could argue with a desire to live where it looks like it does in those pictures ???? maine has some kind of magic- i felt it the first time i drove into the state- so, if it works, just do it !!! whenever you can !!!!
'cause the glory of youth is that you can do these things, like move to wear your heart is pulled !!!!
good luck with the job start-up and recovering from the move- very, very cool to see you the other night- it made my heart smile !!!!
see you soon again-

Hi Annie,
First of all, thank you so much for sharing the pictures, they are absolutely beautiful. I have wanted to go to Maine all my life- some day. I am so sorry you didn't get better news at the Dr's. Although, the biopsy news was good...thank god! . So as I tell Dustin, one day at a time, we will get through this. I know, doesn't it seem like it has been long enough!!! Did you read about the 15 year old that died in MO- that may have happened while you were still out of town, but such a sad story. If you didn't see it I can send you the article. Take Care! We are thinking of you!!!

Annie,
I'm sorry that you are having such a rough time. Those test results are a blow. Have you tried Reglan or arrithromiacin (sp?) to help with motility? It is frustrating to have to fight and plan and do maintenance meds just to not have a crisis...I hope the simple plan helps...Beautiful pictures!

Gosh, Annie, I know we talked and you told me about your challenges, but I felt like with all the people swarming around, I wasn't able to be completely present to our discussion. Now taking the time to read about it and reflect on it - and feeling so much the pain of how sick you must be of being sick and driving to doctors and all that - I just wanted to reiterate how much my heart is with you but also acknowledge that I know that nothing anyone says can really make it better. I am amazed by your spirit and your determination and the way you just keep going. I know that sometimes just laying in bed with a blanket over your face can seem like the most appealing option. I long for the day when you can just life your life without so many worries an concerns about health. I hope it comes soon. Hugs hugs, Elizabeth

Hi Annie,
I've been reading your story for a while you are an amazing person for still being able to push through and succeed with your goals despite your poor health, and thos pictures are beautiful they look like a pro took them I can only imagine how nice and peaceful seeing that must make you.
Anyways the main reason I'm siging here besides just coming out and saying hey so we could maybe get in contact, I'm all about finding people my age that deal with GP 9I'm 21) and have severe GP. ANyways I had the botox done and it did help some but then when it wore off it sucked but I went from not eating to being able to tolerate some foods and it's really a painless procedure. ANd with the GERD you bet it's probably mainly due to the GP I know mine was my pH probe came back at like 80 so I had the NIssen done for the GERD. Also I don't know if the GI talked to you about it, mine said they're starting to phase out going in and just making the pylorus bigger cuz he said if it gets bigger somne how which generally happens then you have a bigger problem and it's actually the exact opposite of the GP, so I was told another option is a gastric pace maker. Well I hope you're feeling better today and I look forward to hearing from you feel free to stop by my page and say hey....caringbridge.org/visit/kristin

Hi Annie,
I'm sorry to hear about the results of your tests. I know it must have been very disappointing for you to hear that :o/ Oh and I understand so much when you say you are sick of being sick... been there done that. Lets hope the nexium does its job so that you don't need more procedures (for a while at least!).
I'm sending healing vibes your way!

You are always so busy, boy I don't know how you do it, but busy is good sometimes. I wanted to let you know Dustin did very well on IV-Doxy which was thru his PICC- later he was on Oral Doxy- which made him extremely sick- as it was explained to me- while on IV- the medicine does not go directly in to your stomach as it does when you take if by mouth. Annie,

I am sorry that your insurance is being a pain in the butt! It is ridiculous that business people get to decide what we medically need. Sometimes I just get mad when my insurance decides to change things like they altered the prescription of my best lung drug and reduced the number of trachs I get. We are not just a number or a profit-we are people who need these!! Anyway, hope the insurance sees the light. (((hugs)))

Hi Annie,

My daughters can fully relate to your comments. So many of their friends from the community have "left them behind". It is other young adults, who can fully appreciate the challenges of living with significant chronic illness that provide friendship and support. The "caring" and "understanding" is so important. I didn't realize there were cranberry bogs in the North East. We had the opportunity to see some in WI and MN several years ago. Actually purchased some fresh berries to make bread and muffins. I hope you have a great week with fun and relaxation.

Hi Annie, I think I might have stoped by here a few times but I'm not sure (I'm having some serious brain fog issues which I'm sure you can relate to) anyways I just wanted to say hi since I've been kinda just hiding out behind the scenes without saying anything, but a little about me I'm 21 and I also have severe gastroparesis and I don't really know anyone my age with GP so I was hoping we could get to know eachother if you want? I also have some other serious medical issues. For the weight issue, they aren't super nutritous but I use Scandi Shakes I don't know if you've heard of them or not? But one glass of the Scnadi Shake and you get a quick 600 calories and they actually taste pretty good, sometimes I just drink them to drink them cuz they taste sooo good way better than boost or ensure and more calories as well. Also the same company that makes the Scand Shakes make something calld Scandi Cal and obviously like the name says it's just straight calories I dont remeber how much but it's a decent amount for only needing to use a little bit and the nice thing is you can put it in anything and you really can't taste it.
I really hope you enjoy your trip it sounds like a lot of fun.

Wow, speechless. Was simply searching Google to find any articles on "Worsening symptoms after Rocephin" and found this. I too just had my galbladder out from the meds. Thought I was alone on that one. I haven't stopped crying since I first spotted this site 3 hours ago. Odd since you are very positive indeed. I can't belive all you've been through. Furthermore, I can't believe you continue to try. I'm quite certain we've seen some of the same docs, assuming I've put the pieces together accurately:) Best of luck to you, I don't know how you do it.

Hi Annie,
funny I was asking the same thing today, where did May go?? Time goes by so fast! incredible... Well, I just wanted to say hello while I was there, and let you know I'm thinking of you!
Hope you're enjoying the weekend,

Congratulations on the job! That sounds very exciting! And it looks like you will be graduating soon! The Lyme retreat looks nice. 'Live' support groups look nice-for wish I could organize some. I hope the new IV antibiotic treatment works well-balancing health with cost. Ian't it frustrating to have to worry about that??? Health should always come first!

I hope you come out of this crash...Always a balance of whether the fun is worth the side effects...

Anyway -have a good week!

Take care,

Hello Annie!
Congrats on the job! I'm so happy you got it, I already know you'll be great with the kids :-) It will be kind of exhausting, but I'm sure you'll have fun! Oh and the apartment life is so cool, it gives you a sense of freedom and control (which is nice, because when you live with a chronic illness, you feel like you lose control quite often!). Anyway, I'm just glad you have the job!
Have a nice weekend,

Renee <renfb@animail.net>

Annie,
I have been reading your page for awhile, but never took the time to comment. Congratulations on the impending graduation! I just graduated from college myself after nine long years. For seven of those years I have had GP and for two of them I had a feeding tube. I know what you mean about wanting to give up at times, it's not easy. I hope the new job works out and you are able to find good roommates. Feel free to visit my blog at melisag.spaces.live.com I don't update as much as I should but I have some poems on there and such you might find interesting.
Congrats again,
Melisa

Stopping by to check on you. Congratulations on your "A". That is quite an accomplishment with the ongoing "Lyme Brain". Dustin knows all about that, but he just got his report card and is on the honor roll, we are so proud of him. Good Luck with the rest of your classes.

Grrr to the insurance! Often insurance is so frustrating! You just want to smack them and say, "I know what I need and if you don't give it to me, I will get sicker and cost you more money!" Every month we are having to battle to get my Pulmozyme ($1800). Without it, I will get pneumonia and then they would have to get TOBI ($3600) or admit me to the PICU. Prevention is a lot cheaper...

Sorry about your stomach. I can empathize with that. I hope it starts behaving and that you have a good week!

Hey Annie! I love your new cut. It looks pretty. It has been warm here too. I started a new GI drug and it makes me nauseous. How can they think to make a drug to help people with GI problems that makes people nauseous? Just seems like it is against the GI "policy" lol.

Hi Annie!

I just found your web site. It's so cool! I'm so impressed that you have Lyme (like me) and had the time and patience to make such a cute and uplifting site. Bravo to you! I read your story and it's very uplifting. I am really struggling with heart issues. I have Mitral Valve Prolapse and I think I got it from Lyme, actually I'm pretty sure I did. Anyways, if you can let me know how you deal with your heart issues. It's really bothering me lately and taking ABX just makes it worse. I read you take Primaxin, how long have you been on it? How are you doing now? Has it been ok with the Dyatonmia?

Anyways, I'm glad you're well and I hope all the very best for you. Congrads on Graduation, I know how hectic it can be but I know you deserve every moment of it.

Good luck hon.
