My heart sunk when I read about Stanton's stocking hanging empty. I was reading another caringbridge site and they still hung their son's stocking, but they would put giftcards, books and small items in it and take it to a local hospital for kids that were in the hospital. It was a way to still have the stocking, but it wasn't empty and they were doing something nice. Maybe that is something you could do in honor of Stanton??

Mrs. Tina,

I still check on you daily and love to read your updates. You continue to amaze me and push me to go on with my life. I can completely understand how the holidays can be depressing. This is my first holiday as a married woman, but my second without both of my parents. There is a constant void in all that we do and 2 very important people missing at all of the family functions. I hope you have a WONDERFUL Christmas. Keep updating!!

Good Morning, Tina. I have not signed in quite some time but check daily and continue to pray for you and your family. As you have reminded us all many times, we should all remember those things in our lives that are important and not focus so much on the trivial. I recently purchased a CD by the group "Point of Grace". This song is on there and I instantly thought of you when I heard it for the first time. I hope you enjoy the lyrics.

Verse 1:
Wake up to the sunlight
With your windows open
Don't hold in your anger or leave things unspoken
Wear your red dress
Use your good dishes
Make a big mess and make lots of wishes
Have what you want
But want what you have
And don't spend your life lookin' back

Chorus:
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
You won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
Cuz it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Verse 2:
So go to the ballgames
And go to the ballet
And go see your folks more than just on the holidays
Kiss all your children
Dance with your wife
Tell your husband you love him every night
Don't run from the truth
'Cause you can't get away
Just face it and you'll be okay

Chorus:
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud

Take a few chances
Let it all out
You won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Verse 3:
So give to the needy
And pray for the grieving
E'en when you don't think that you can
'Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you
So think of your fellow man
Make peace with God and make peace with yourself
'Cause in the end there's nobody else

Chorus
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Great job Hayden. Tina, I must agree that the only downfall to the weekend is that everyone is so busy, you don't visit much. I was there but I didn't see you. I missed several families that I keep up with. Hope you have a great week.

Tina - wow has Hayden grown!!! I just wanted you to know I have been thinking of you. I do often and don't sign. I cannot imagine what life holds for you each day. I continue to struggle with each child's death here and they are not mine personally so I can only imagine what it is like. I pray for you often and thank you for your continued updates. They must be difficult to put on the net for everyone to read, but know there are many of us that they still inspire and bless. I love you guys and just wanted to say hello( (but you know I was never short on words).

Hi,
I just wanted you to know that my family continue's to pray for you and your family. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for you all. Stanton will never be forgotten, what an amazing little boy he was. I just wanted to let you know we are thinking of you, and maybe just a little worried for you. I truly hope you are just so busy with everyday life that you just don't have time to journal. I guess I am a little worried that you aren't feeling well. Please take care of yourself and know that many many people continue to lift you and your family up in prayer.
Take care you are in our thoughts.

You don't know me but I have your site bookmarked on my computer. I pray that your pain is eased but that your faith only grows stronger each day. While I have never experienced such a personal loss, I have worked with those who have and know that the only thing that gives peace is faith in the Lord. He will one day smile when you again walk hand in hand in heaven with little Stanton!

Tina, just dropping by to say hello and send you a BIG HUG (((((( Tina )))))). I know that probably doesn't help, but maybe the love will come through. I also wanted to let you know that Don & Staci Raborn finally came by and picked up their poem for little Jake. It was so good to finally meet them face to face. I think they liked the poem, as Don said he was going to hang it in his new office. Anyway, I hope you have a good weekend and may God bless you and yours. Sincerely, Brenda Werner

It's nice to see an update. End of summer/early fall always seems like a bittersweet time of year to me. Something about the leaves starting to fall off the trees, and school starting back up, and the pools closing...it just seems like the end of one thing, and the beginning of another. I never get that feeling with other seasons, though? When winter ends and spring begins, I am always glad--it's like a renewal of HOPE. Anyway, I just wondered if maybe the change of seasons and Hayden going back to school is contributing to your feeling like you are going backwards. It must be so very difficult as you see other kids and think about "what should have been..." (((HUGS))) Praying for your peace, Tina...

Hi Tina. I am not sure if You remember me, but we met briefly in St Jude while My dd Regina tan was treated there. I have been reading your diary all these years, but sadly I just did not know what to say. My dd Regina relapsed on june 22nd this year and most of doctors gave her 2 months to live ( it was almost 2 months ago). We decided not to seek treatments in ST jude because they did not offer us any acceptable treatment plans. :( BUT we do miss ST jUde terribly. Right now Regina is in Childrens Hostpital of Los Angeles and she is doing good. Things are looking up. Every time I see Neuroblastoma patient , your family comes to mind. Cancer sucks but we are trying to make best of it. :)
Thank you for updating your blog so often. I get strenght and inspiration from your postings.

Hi Tina,

Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you and praying for you in this difficult yet exciting time as Hayden starts his SR year at MHS. Seems like just yesterday Jamie and all of us were there enjoying our SR year!! I can recall a time back then at a baseball game Hayden singing "I should have been a cowboy" He could not have been older than 3 or 4 yrs. I dont know if you remember him singing that song, but he knew every word! He was so precious then and has grown to be a handsome and kind young man! I know you are proud of him!

Good luck Hayden! Enjoy your SR year, it will be gone before you know it!

So sorry you having these difficult times. I'm just so blessed however God showed you what that boat represented in your life. Truly Jesus in in there, and He will speak to that storm out there for you. Peace, be still!

I wanted to let you know I ran into Shonda, (Jeremiah's mom) this past weekend. OH, what a JOY that was! She is one amazing woman. She sends her love to you and everone else that knew her and loved Jeremiah.

Praying you through your storms,

Strange thing is, I have never met you but at one point while there I thought to myself "I think I just saw Stantoon's mom". Precious Ones, I am still here and still reading and still praying for you all. Mitch, Jenn, and my grands were in Gulf Shores the week before you. One year y'all will have to plan to go the same week. They usually visit with Buddy in Mobile before going to the beach for the week. Jenn just got a new job with KCS which will put her on the road one week each month. Pray they will find someone to help Mitch get the kids to school and stay with them until he gets home each night. I may be at MHS this year. I've volunteered! I will always keep my eye on precious Hayden. I love him so much! This will be a wonderful year of "lasts" and "firsts" for him. Please know I'll be there crying with you--tears of sorrow and joy! Love you all,

So Sorry....I am still here and every day I go to my favorite folder and click on Stanton's link. I don't know why I always just "x" out once I am done. Sometimes I feel funny that I am here reading and always signing. Does that make sense? Anyway, I hope you find your calling with children. I have a daycare and right now have a 3 year old and a 1 year old both napping...soon they will be up and LOUD!! :0)

Hey Tina....sorry that I have not "signed" in a while, but my mom had a very serious stroke on July 6th and my hands have been full....I know you understand that. She is currently at LifeCare Hospital for some acute care. Please be praying for her (her name is Myrtle). Thanks! Oh yes, when you see/or talk to Don & Staci Raborn....I still have their poem for little Jake. I so want them to have it! Love ya, Brenda Werner

Have had the painters here since Monday...UGH!!! What a mess!We are selling the big house and downsizing(could use some prayers to St. Joseph that it sells quickly;the real estate market is bad right now for sellers. We've been in this house for almost 20 years since being relocated from NY so this was a big decision.Since it's made,I would like for it to go quickly and smoothly!)My baby is going on 20(7th of August)and is the only one besides hubby and I here(2 daughters out on their own) and that's sporadic as he's in college.Well where I was going with this...LOL, was that I've been preoccupied with a messy house so I haven't been here since I last wrote on Monday. If you ever stop writing I'll hunt you down, LOL Have a great weekend!

Keeping your whole family in my thought and prayers. I know each day seems to bring new thoughts to your mind that aren't always very pleasant but God has his plan and we are just along for the ride. To your sister, Jamie- My heart goes out to you and your family. I experienced 3 miscarriages last year and know what it's like to not hear that heartbeat. God has his plan though and I'm blessed to be having a baby in October. Keeping you in my prayers that everything goes well and may you know you are never alone.

At night, I listen to headphones to go to sleep, sometimes praise and worship, sometimes 89.1, sometimes the Bible on tape. Last night I was listening to 89.1 and this song came on, and after your entry yesterday, i felt led to share it with you. Even though we all don't have the same storms, we all have storms nevertheless. I hope these words touch you the way they did me...

Praise You in This Storm
words by Mark Hall/Sung by Casting Crowns

I was sure by now, God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
And it's still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away.

Chorus:
And I'll praise You in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I've cried
You hold me in Your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone, how can I carry on
if I can't find You
and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes unto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

According to "medical professionals" I am indeed dying of an agressive cancerous brain tumour (glioblastoma multiforme stage IV), we found it in January when it was already HUGE (they could "debulk it"- take the middle out - by 6 cm. that's a LOT). If they didn't find it when they did they estimate I had 3 months left (of headaches and vomitting - ICK). Median survival is 12 to 15 months. My radiation oncologist hopes we're looking at 2 years (a numbers game, we're all guessing). After 34 radiation treatments and 78 days in the hospital I'm exhausted but am expected to be really tired until at least August. I have 2 sons ages 10 and 15, currently staying with the younger ones dad. He wants to fight for full custody which is making the whole situation harder.

I just wanted to stop by and say congrats on the anniversary. It is hard! Jim and I are still together through cancer too, but i oftenwonder how. It isn't major stuff, but the difference between how we worry over Taylor or handle things that pop up with Taylor always put a strain on things. Anyway, I just checked out a bunch of books for the boys and one of them was Hermie, the Common Caterpillar. They love the Hermie books. It is often awkard to come here as I don't know what to say. My child is doing well Praise God!!! and I am so gateful for that, but it leaves me at a loss of words. Anyway, I wanted to tell you that you help me more than you can know. I get myself in pits all the time. Everytime a child has bad scans or a difficult treatment I get so worked up over Taylor and how it could all come back that I can't get out of it. I have just spent the last week in a pit and it often helps me to come here and read your stories and witness your unfaultering Faith. I am inspired by you and I am in awe of you. Thank you for sharing Stanton and your life with us.

Tina & Jeff,
Many congrats on your anniversary. I am at awe at the both of you and your ability to handle what you have. Jeff, it was good to talk to you at St. Jude's but at the same time very akward to know what to say. Tina, I know you were busy talking and didn't want to interrupt. I'm not sure what I would have said considering it was so hard to keep from crying when I wasn't the one who lost a child. I will never pretend to know what you are feeling or to try to comfort you. I am finding out how much cancer effects your whole family and its very tough. I just wanted to say hey.

(((HUGS))) I don't even begin to pretend that I know what you are feeling, but I just wanted to offer some cyber-hugs. I can *imagine* the hurt you must feel at times when the world seems to be moving on at rapid-speed (babies, graduations, etc), and the more time passes, it must, at times, feel like people forget that Stanton was here. Rest assured Stanton is carried on in the hearts of EVERYONE who knew him, and even in those of us (like myself) that didn't know him, but were touched by his story. This new niece or nephew of yours will not be any different--he or she will "know" Stanton through the stories your family tells, through happy memories and pictures. Tina, Stanton lives on in you most of all, and I know he always will! Praying for your peace...comfort...always.

Tina,

I hate that you are struggling so and I know I will never have the words to take your hurt away. But please know that this new baby will know Stanton. He/she will know him thru you and all your family that continue to keep his memory alive. I myself came to your site for the first time shortly after Stanton's passing. I never met your beautiful boy in person but immediately fell in love with him. I myself can not wait to meet Stanton, Emma Grace, Jake, Jacob and countless others in Heaven and tell them what a blessing they have been to my life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful boy with all of us. He will be remembered!!!

I hope the rest of your week gets easier.

tina, several years ago I read an article about these 3 pro baseball players who were at a lakehouse with their wives and children and the 3 guys were out on the lake in a boat and went under a low bridge and two of them hit there heads. One was killed from fatal head injuries, and left a wife and two or three small children. The wife was writing this article about her tremendous loss. She said she played that song over and over during the first few months after the tragic loss of the man she loved. This was before Sonnys death, but needless to say, to this day, that song stands out in my mind. I understand the message you receive from the lyrics. I'm there with you.
Now a song that stands out in my mind is a new christian song that says "Holdfast help is on the way". God has brought it to me during several of my lowest moments to remind me not to give up. I will pray for you today to Holdfast. From your sister in christ,

Thinking of you today, and praying for you:) It has to be hard to see kids that are the same age as Stanton. I have a friend whose son earned his wings 7 years ago and she still feels a huge hole:( Looking forward to your next update......Hayden is sure a handsome guy.....and such a great kid. You and Jeff have done a wonderful job raising him....and for that you can be so very proud. I have a 16 year old son and it isnt easy to be a teenager these days, so much pressure to do well in school and conform with friends. I am sure Hayden is very happy to have such a loving mom and dad:) Take care.....Love, Dena

Wow, sorry I've just realized I haven't posted for around a month. SOOOOOOORY. It has been crazy over here in Japan.
Even though I don't post as often as I want to I am always thinking of the amazing Stanton and his super family. Sending as always Love Hugs and a Million Prayers.
I found this and wanted to share it with you all.

Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course?

Each of us has such a bank. It's name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no over draft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against "tomorrow."
You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running!! Make the most of today.

To realise the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.

To realise the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realise the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realise the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realise the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who just missed a train.

To realise the value of ONE SECOND, ask someone who just avoided an accident.

To realise the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal at the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with. And remember time waits for no one.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why its called the present.

Hey Tina,
I don't know if you have heard Martina McBrides new song "Anyway" but I know song lyrics speak to you and thought you would like this one so here it is:

ANYWAY:
You can spend your whole life building something from nothing
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach and you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

Chorus:
God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway, I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe that tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart, for all the right reasons, and in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway

Chorus:
God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway, I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in that tomorrow they?ll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway, sing it anyway

I sing, I dream, I love, anyway.

Prayer as always are coming your way for you and your extended family!

Tina, I am so pleased about the new baby. My new greatgrandaughter arrived on March 30 at Minden Medical. She just spent four days at Sutton's Childrens Hospital and we were more than pleased with the care that she received.
Oh, yes, her name is Hanna Grace. She is the granddaughter of my daughter, Debbie. Prayers for Hank, Dana, the new baby--also grandpaw O. H. Also her very wonderful great grandmother, Shug. I know that she will be "much loved" because I am also lucky to be loved by the Haynes. (Laurine)

Thanks for the update, and I'm so sorry about your eye, ouch!

I'm so blessed you got to enjoy seeing your very special friends, as hard as it was. I think it's great you can go back, and now remember all the wonderful memories of your children together.

I got a random prayer request email for Stanton one day which led me to follow your story and many many others daily. I still check in on all of my caringbridge families I have bookmarked, and although I don't know all of you, your stories are so powerful and have taught me so many good lessons. I have a child who is 3, and although I love her to death I think that one thing that I have taken away from reading your site is that time is so precious and I should never take one second for granted. I can honestly say many times when I need to be cleaning my house, and my daughter wants me to read her a story I think of how so many families can't do that anymore and I stop what I am doing and share those special moments. I know that by the grace of God it is not my child who is so sick at this very moment, but that it could be tomorrow. I am praying for you all and know that Stanton's life changed many people whom you do not even know. Your family taught me to love harder, hug tighter, and stop and soak up the wonderful moments while they are here. Thanks so much....

Tina:
Not that I can totally relate but I can somewhat...I lost my brother 11 years ago this Thursday and you are right holidays do not get easier....to me sometimes they do get harder! I wish I could tell you that it will all go away but to be honest it doesn't --you just learn to deal with it the best way possible. I find Christmas and Easter are the hardest holidays. I am like you I don't forget the reason for the season but I do find myself wondering what it would be like.

I just pray for you and that you will find comfort in knowing that you are not alone.

I don't sign in on a regular basis but I check this website daily. I have you on my pray list daily also. Please know that although I don't always say that you do have people that really care about you and your situation.

Wishing you a peaceful day!

Dear Tina,
Thank you for keeping Taylor in your heart and prayers. I appreciated your kind comments regarding my latest post. It is obviously much easier to speak of trusting God when the worst happens, when it has not happened to us. I applaud what you are doing- keeping the faith in the face of utter despair. I am so, so sorry that you have lost your little boy. I pray that I'd be as able to stand firm on the side of the Lord, never doubting His ability to heal or His providence in deciding not to. Carry on, and use this as God would have you to. Not one drop of your suffering will be wasted.

Tina, I was thinking about your entry and it brought to mind something that I expeirenced out of the blue this week. I was stopped at a redlight and glanced over at the car next to me. There was a little boy in the back seat and he looked to be about four years old. I started crying because I immediately started thinking about my nephew who would have been four this year. I don't know where the thoughts or tears came from but it just "hit so hard and without a warning". I immediately was so heartbroken just thinking of how much it must hurt my sister to see any child that would be about the age of her son, had he lived. What you both go through on a daily basis, so many of us never know. I am so inspired and so humbled at your courage and your strength. No doubt Stanton was up their painting that rainbow for your entire family. Maybe, our little Patterson was helping him. Just know that I think of you often and I really care about how you are doing. Give Jeff a hug and you have a wonderful weekend. You are an amazing mom and aunt.

I can't believe how much someone you never even met can touch your heart. Some cliche lyrics to share with you. Eric Clapton wrote this song for his son who passed away at the tender age of three suddenly.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down; time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven
'Cause I know I don't belong, here in heaven

Just stopping by to say hi. I'd like to share this song with you.

Mark Harris - Wish You Were Here

I wanted to tell you how closely I've kept
The memories of you in my heart
And all of the lifetimes that we had to share
Live even though we're apart
But don't cry for me
'Cause I'm finally free
(Chorus)
To run with the angels
On streets made of gold
To listen to stories of saints new and old
To worship our Maker
That's where I'll be
When you finally find me

No don't you be weary cause waiting for you
Are wonders that you've never known
Just hold on to Jesus, reach out for his hands
And one day They'll welcome you home
And that's when you'll be
Finally free
Finally free

(Chorus)
I wish you were here, I wish you were here

And all of the dreams that you treasure
Will soon come together
And that's when your sorrow will find tomorrow
And you will rise again

(Chorus)

We'll run with the angels on streets made of gold
We'll listen to stories of saints new and old
We'll worship our maker that's where we'll be
When you finally find me

I wish you were here

Hoping all is well-

Tina, Wow, I just loved that poem. I am going to copy it also and perhaps share it on Ashley's site once I get around to updating it...ha ha. I hope you don't mind that I am going to be a copy cat. It is just too good not to share.

Okay, now back to you...Just know that I love you just the way you are. I was one that got to witness first hand the sweet love that you and Jeff share as husband and wife. Watching you tenderly care for Stanton also imprinted on my heart the meaning of true love. Just the fact that you are your "true self" as Oprah (ha ha) would say, draws everyone to you. It is really hard to find people that just put themselves out there in the good and the bad. You have taught so many of us St. Jude families that is really okay just to let it all out. There is so much liberty in just taking the mask off at times and letting our true feeling out. God is a big God, don't you think He understands our emotions. I just want you to know that I think you are awesome and that you have touched our hearts time and time again. It is just so good to have you as a friend. I hope you will always just continue to be yourself and let us all just rally around you for whatever you need, good and bad. We care.

Keeping you all deep in my Prayers.
I wanted to share a Poem that was sent to me.
Please don’t worry – I’m home now
where there is no darkness
and pain is no more than a faded memory.
I am with family, those who love me
and…I am still with you.

Just listen – I am the beat of your heart and in every breath you take.
You will find me in your laughter
and at the times you choose to sing.
I am on the wind; amongst the patter of rain.
Listen closely and there I am – with you.

Just look – I am a morning’s ray of light and the first snowflake of winter.
You will find me in the shadows of a dance and in the smiles of those who love you.
I am amongst the stars; on the sparkling sea.
Look carefully and there I am – with you.

Just feel – I am the embrace of an old friend and the tickle of a secret’s whisper.
You will find me on a gentle, summer’s breeze and in the sun’s warm hands upon your face.
I am the flutter of an angel’s wings; perfect, at peace.
Feel with your heart and there I am – with you always.

I have been coming here for a really long time, found you from Jake (I think, I honestly can't remember.)

anyway- Today I was listening to 99.5, our local country station, & they are doing their annual St. Jude Radiothon. driving down to get my dad, and who comes on the air? Tina Haynes. talking about Stanton. Of course, by the end, I was sobbing. Hearing your voice, listening to you talk about your precious baby, and knowing that I come here but have never signed, I suddenly felt overwhelming guilt. You are such an amazing woman. I have thought that many times reading your entries. You are an inspiration to all womankind & especially Mothers everywhere.
I just wanted to tell you that.

Tina,
I have a wonderful idea for your precious quilts. Take measurements of the quilts and see if you can find someone in your area to make shadow boxes for them to hang. You know a huge wooden box about a quarter of an inch thick with glass in the front to display the quilt. Kind of like a huge picture frame. It may be a little pricy but it will preserve them for a long time. So sweet of these ladies to make them for you. I know you will treasure them forever. I made memory quilts of my parents one year for Christmas and gave them out to my sisters and brother. I took some down throws and printed pictures out of the computer of my parents on transparent cloth paper and ironed them in different spots on the quilt. They really turned out beautiful.
Praying always for Stanton's family.

Praying for you, Tina, each day. I sewed a sleeve along one side of an antique quilt that I own, and then ran it on a curtain rod and hung the entire thing on a big wall in one bedroom. It is super. I take it down every now and then and toss it in the dryer on delicate to get the dust out of it.

Best of luck with the quilts. Love ya.

These are the ones I had in mind but if you "google" quilt clips there are lots of others.

Hi Tina...it's been quite some time since I've signed though I check almost daily for your updates. I think of Stanton and your family often and always love getting updates on Hayden.

I had to reply to your plea for a way to hang your sweet quilts. Have you seen the wooden clips that you can use for this purpose? They come in the shape of a flower or a star, etc. I believe that they can be found at Pottery Barn Kids and I think I've seen them at our local Babies R Us. Also, could you or someone handy sew some tabs on the back (like tab top curtains but more hidden in the back)and them hang them from basic drapery hardware? Please email me if you have questions or need some clarification. Also, if you can't find the clips, let me know and I'll see if I can't track them down for you. I am an Interior Designer and have some sources I can possibly find them. It would thrill me to be able to help you out. In the meantime, if I can find a link showing them, I'll send your way.

The little boy didn't want to be at the dentist office. Floyd told him about Stanton and the $20.00 deal he had with him. We just laughed and just talked about how special Stanton truly was. Floyd mentioned that he just had this special way about him. I agree. I just wanted to let you know that even though Stanton is celebrating his birthday in Heaven, we are thinking about him and you. (A little something for Tina...from Brenda)

If I could pick one flower,
'Twould be a rose so fair,
That dwells in the Gardens of Heaven,
With eyes of blue and golden hair.

His smile could light the eastern sky
With rays of warming sun,
And his little arms around my neck,
Were soft as moonlight when day is done.

But, the Great Gardener needed him
In that palace made of gold,
To fill a place so special
That my "Stanton Rose" now holds.

So I'll just wait and bide my time,
Till I enter the Garden too,
And then I'll hold that rose so fair
And see those eyes of blue!

Valentines...... To Heaven

This Valentine is not of the ordinary kind,
Its still filled with love...and blessings inside;
But mine has to be sent on the wings of love...
You see its destination is the Heavens above.

Its not being sent to my parents so dear,
For they are still with me each day of the year;
Its being sent to my child...who left earth so soon,
Who's now in the Heavens with the stars and the moon.

The message is the same as your valentine,
"I love you...my sweet precious child of mine;
My love is still deeper than the ocean is blue,
And its sent with hugs and kisses...from me to you."

"I know you are with me each and every day,
You listen as I talk to you...and hear what I say;
For that is one thing that disease cannot do...
...you'll always be apart of me...and me a part of you."

"I know God did not give you the awful disease,
Thank Him for His comfort He gives me...would you please?
I dont know what I would do without His undying love...
Sent to bereaved parents from the Heavens above."

"I know you are in the best of care,
But it's so hard for us left on earth to bear;
Could you put in a request from us left behind...
For God to send the knowledge..so a cure we can find."

"So that no other family has to go through this pain,
Our lives without you will never be the same;
When I get lonely I will look to the sky at night...
And see you shining down your big bright light."

Tina, Hayden & Jeff,
I know I haven't been "around" much lately (well okay, not at all), but I hope you know that you are all never far from my thoughts and prayers (you know that, right?) I wanted to let you know that I've been thinking of you guys all day today, and remembering Stanton as well. The hurt that we all still feel is a clear sign of how just loved he was, and still is loved. Tina, I agree with you that time probably will never fully cure that hurt. But, time also cannot diminish the hope and faith that we will see him again someday. And what a great day that will be!! I love you guys!!

I know today is especially hard for you. You said people told you that it will get easier with time. It does! My sister passed away 20 years ago with an incurable disease. She was my dearest friend. It has been difficult more so at times, but God has given me a peace that passes human understanding. I still don't understand why it happened. But I know she's in Heaven waiting for me, my family, and her children and now grandchildren she's never met. We may not understand God's ways but we need to trust Him. May God be with you in a mighty way this week and may He give you that peace as your soul is flooded with precious memories of your precious little angel.

I remember sweet Stanton and know that he is making Jesus smile like he made so many smile here. He really was a sweet little boy and I'm so glad I had the privilege of knowing him for just a little while. God bless you and may he bring you comfort.

Tina,
You and your family have shared your life with so many people and so many families have been touched by Stanton's story. As a parent we all weep with you, but can't really comprehend what you face from day to day. We choose to wake up in our OWN world and forget about people around us who need encouragement and prayers.
I pray for continued strength for each of you. Thank you for placing your family and Stanton's story as an open book for each of us to read. I pray that each day I can draw something from your words/experience that will reflect the strength, faith and unconditional love that Stanton possessed.

Dear Tina,
My heart is very heavy for you this week. I've read your journal for quite some time and it has made me realize that the answer of "time helps" really is just words to say.
Please do whatever you feel you must do with the journal, but know that there are people here who read daily, but like myself who don't sign, but my family prays for your family daily.
I have no idea what the future holds, but I know The One who loves you best, does.
Happy Birthday Stanton!

I am praying for you. I often think of Stanton and each of you and I pray for you when I do. I think we are a culture that underestimates grief and want to make people "feel" better. I'm sorry that you ache so much but I don't think you're crazy. Stanton left a gaping hole in many lives when he went on to heaven. Know that you are being prayed for - I've been reading the same book as you and I see it differently now that I know you're reading it too. (Get out of the pit...Beth Moore.)

It's a very difficult time of the year for you, so please be gentle with yourself. Grief of the sort you have, doesn't go away or really lessen, I don't feel, but maybe that's just me. I do always pray and hope, that as you suggest, it can be worked through and incorporated into daily life, so that it does not completely cripple our ability to enjoy the other dear people in our lives, do our work, worship, and generally go about our business. I don't know if this is very encouraging, but there is a hole left in our hearts and souls when someone so dear is missing from our earthly lives, and while we are never whole again the way we used to be, hopefully we can channel what we are left with in a positive and hopeful way. It is an ongoing struggle, and just personally speaking, I'm not that great with struggles like this. My prayers are with you, as this is the greatest thing a mother can struggle with, and I'm glad that you do find some comfort and encouragement from your writing. I always find some comfort and encouragement from reading what you've written.

TINA, I came to check on you guys this morning before you had updated the site. Then this afternoon, I got an amazing e-mail from my daughter with your journal update on it.
We have never met any of you, yet we feel very close to each of you. Stanton, Emma Grace, Zoie, Hannah, Big Ben, and then later Jacob Duckworth, Jake-Jake Raborn, and many children that have gone to be with Jesus at such an early age, will never be forgotten. I can remember that Sunday, like it was yesterday, When our sweet dear friend Monica got up in church and ask for prayers for these babies. They immediately took our hearts and we began to pray for each of them and their families. We had the sweet pleasure of meeting Emma Grace, Trish and Barney, But never had that pleasure with Stanton, Zoie, Hannah and Big Ben and their families. I do know that we talk about each one of these children at our houses (my daughters and ours) just like they were all part of our family. And I tell you after praying for all of you each and every day for over two years. It feels as though we are all family. Tina, we will be sending Stanton some Valentine Birthday balloons on Wed. So look to the sky and see if you can see them. Tina, Follow your heart with your journaling, but know that we check on you each day and would feel as though we lost another part of our family if you quit journaling.
Sending you more ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))).

I have never in the entire time you have been journaling signed your guest book, but have read it everyday since your unimaginable journey began. I do not know if you remember me, but my husband, Glen, was youth minister at 1st Minden for about six years. I prayed for Stanton, and now pray for you and your family. You have given me perspective when my own four old is driving me nuts :), helped me to see what really matters in this life and insight into the loss of a child. God has used you to help me in a small way understand other's pain in loss and how I can in maybe a small way be an encouragement or give some hope. I cannot even fathom your emotions right now. BUT I know the FATHER who does, and I am continuing to pray for you and your family at this most difficult time. God bless you, your sister in Christ. Carrie Miers

Dear Sweet Tina, I hope you can feel my hugs from afar. The tears sting as I sit here wanting so badly to say something that would just ease your hurt if even just a little. I know that there are no such words. You said that you have beaten yourself up time and time again for going to sleep that night. I can only think that maybe it was God's grace and his covering over you that caused you to sleep as he drew Stanton to Him. I thought too about what you said about telling your kids goodnight and if you ever thought about if you would do it differently if you knew that it was your last night with them. I can tell you that there have been many nights that I got out of bed just to say goodnight one more time or to just kiss them one more time. I have learned just how precious life is through our experiences and through walking this journey with you and our other St. Jude friends. Oh how I wish things were different Tina. I too so wish Stanton was here with you and Jeff and Hayden. I pray that God will give you precious memories that will somehow ease the heartache that I can only imagine. I pray for rest for you this week. I pray that your friends will surround you and care for you. I hope you keep journaling. You have such an incredible gift. Thank you for sharing your life with us and most of all, for sharing Stanton. We will never forget him!

Tina,

I will be praying for you this week. I cannot imagine what you are going through and will not pretend to know. Just please know that Stanton is remembered and missed. I also don't have any words of wisdom about the journaling. I do know that sometimes I feel like God talks to me straight through you. SO MANY TIMES I have read your journal and been able to apply it directly to my day. It's kinda spooky sometimes. There are probably many people that could say the same. Do what feels right for you. If it has a positive effect for you, then keep writing, if not, let it go.

GOD BLESS!

You are on my heart Tina and I will be praying for you this week. Unless you have lost a child (no matter the age of the child) you cannot possibly understand what this kind of grief feels like. We all grieve in our own ways, but the one key for all of us is to keep our eyes on the Lord and to never giveup on the hope that is ours. I pray there will be lots of kind people in your path who will give you the opportunity to minister to them too.

Some Lyrics I wanted to share with you, I hope you find them as uplifting as I do.

U2-Miracle Drug.

I want to trip inside your head
Spend the day there…
To hear the things you haven’t said
And see what you might see

I want to hear you when you call
Do you feel anything at all?
I want to see your thoughts take shape
And walk right out

Freedom has a scent
Like the top of a new born baby’s head

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I’ve had enough I’m not giving up
On a miracle drug

Of science and the human heart
There is no limit
There is no failure here sweetheart
Just when you quit…

I am you and you are mine
Love makes nonsense of space
And time… will disappear
Love and logic keep us clear
Reason is on our side, love…

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I’ve had enough of romantic love
I’d give it up, yeah, I’d give it up
For a miracle, a miracle drug, a miracle drug

God I need your help tonight

Beneath the noise
Below the din
I hear a voice
It’s whispering
In science and in medicine
“I was a stranger
You took me in”

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I’ve had enough of romantic love
I’d give it up, yeah, I’d give it up
For a miracle, miracle drug

Miracle, miracle drug

Hey Tina,

I know this weekend is going to be rough, but I'm just letting you know I think Stanton and his story is absolutely extraordinary..and no I never even met him, I just know he is. I worry myself and everyone around me will forget about my dad (im the one who left you a guestbook entry about 2 weeks ago, I lost my dad to the nasty monster about 4 years ago) But I realize its impossible to forget extraordinary and amazing people, so Stanton will NEVER be forgotten, even if you tried you wouldn't be able to do it. Just letting you know, Im thinking about you. Have a good day.

Tina: I have been one of Stanton's followers for several years. Last night, however, was the first time I had heard his story on the radio. 99.5 (country station in Michigan) was doing the St. Jude telephone, and whose voice was there - but yours - telling Stanton's story. You did a fabulous job. . . even though the story itself was heartbreaking. I just wanted to thank you for being able to do this for all the other children. My little niece, Gracie Autumn, has ewings sarcoma (brain - diagnosed when she was 3). Since Gracie's diagnosis 3 years ago, there are several children that I have kept up with (one of those being Stanton). Again, thank you for all of these special children.

Family and Friends,
After a routine visit to the doctor's office for Ethan's eight week checkup, they found a lump and sent us to the hospital. After numerous tests, they have confirmed that Ethan has Leukemia. From all that we know, this is an extremely rare diagnosis considering that he has between a 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 white blood cell count, and he just passed with 2 month birthday. Please visit http://www.ethanpowell.com for the full details. If you would like to send a word of encouragement or prayers, please do so at prayersforethan@yahoo.com. We place our son's health in God's hands and ask for your prayers.

We encourage you to pass this on to anyone you know that would be willing to prayer for Ethan, the next 24-72 hours are crucial.

With All Our Love,

Tina, All I can say is WOW!!! You & Jeff are very courageous. I can not imagine what y'all have gone through. Minden is an awesome city to be proud of. When my husband, Chuck, was dx. with Colon CA, the people of Minden poured out their hearts to us. The cards, calls, drop-ins & friends we've made have been overwhelming. I was so glad to be a part of the St. Jude auction again this year. If you don't live in Minden or work in Minden, you really miss out. Because, you don't hear enough about it. After leaving MMC in 2000, I failed to be involved & I'm sorry I hadn't. We need to get more people in the north end of the parish involved donating items for next year's auction. The Haynes family has been wonderful supporters of Two's Co. & I appreciate all of you. May God continue to comfort you, Jeff, & Hayden!!! Love, Jana

Hi Tina,

You don't know me personally, but I found your site through another caringbridge website. About 4 years ago this nasty beast of a disease attacked my father when I was 16 years old. He succumbed to the disease only after 3 months of having it. Its been 21 years and not one day has passed since his passing that he hasn't come into my head. I just want to promise you it will get better. I know its not exactly the same situation and I don't know exactly what you are feeling, but it does get better. I thought I would never be happy again, losing your best friend is one of the hardest things in the world, especially if your best friend was short changed. But we must look ahead, holding on very tight to the great memories that were made. Some days are better then others. Just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts, even though we never met.

Tina I wish I could say something that would take your pain away but that's not possible. I have a thought that comes to my heart for " BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD" I can't even begin to know your pain and loss. Don't you ever let anyone tell you how and when to stop greiving that is between you and GOD I just hope you know I only know you from this website and I've been checking in regularly. Your journals are outstanding and wonderful and so are you I wish you well on many levels but most of all I pray GOD will hold you close and guide your path always may I say to you and your family Happy New Year!!

Sending hugs and friendship...just know I care so much. Tina, never apologize for what you consider to be rambling. Many of us could never even begin to imagine how difficult it truly is for you to move forward without Stanton. You just pour your heart out and let us help you carry this burden anyway that we can. Just know that so many of are praying for you each and everyday.

Tina, Thanks again for a moving journal. I have said so many times before that I cannot not imagine what you or the other mothers feel after loosing a child. You have earn't the right to moan and grown about life being un fair but. I have just finished reading a journal update of Jacob Duckworth. His mom is very much like you in how she writes her journals. She wrote this scripture.
"The day you die is better than the day you are born."
Ecclesiastes 7:1
And then an explanation of what she thinks it means.
How when her son was born he would have to go through so much pain and hardship while fighting cancer. But since he has died he is free from all pain and cancer.
It's hard for me to put into her words if you have the chance visit the site and read it. It won't make things better but it might put a little light on how others cope.
Sending Love Hugs and a Million Prayers.

Well Tina I check Stanton's site daily. I live in West Monroe where Jake Raborn was from and that's how I found your site a long time ago. You are an inspiration and you just ramble as much as you want to. I think you've earned that right. And guess what....there are many of us that love to listen. I believe I've only signed once and that was when Stanton passed away but I felt like I needed to sign today. So you hold your head as high as you can and with time you will be able to hold it even higher. Take care and know that even though I haven't signed that I am still thinking of you daily.

Tina....Ihave never posted to you before but I have been a part of your journry for a long time. I am constantly drawn back to your site. I feel a sort of kinship with you. LOL. I felt impressed by God today to tell you that you will hold your boy again.....you will touch his cheek and smell his hair....you will hear his laugh and see his smile. He is not gone....but he is free! I hug my 5 year old son alittle tighter and aittle longer each night in hopes that God will allow you to feel your son in your arms once again. I wish I could say something that would really, REALLY help you.....everything sounds so cliche. Just know that you are loved from afar.....I'm here for you and lifting you up in prayer. God is always good. :)

Tina--I sent up a hello to Stanton yesterday. I was at the cemetery for a friend's funeral. The wind started blowing and I could hear all the chimes. Looking forward to the seeing ya'll and all the craziness during the Auction! Love ya'll and Hayden hang in there.

there are countless times i pray for you and thank God for you and your family and your open heart. anyone can share the joys of life, but i believe, it takes a real Jesus person to share the hurt and daily victories.

I saw the link for Stanton on Christal's web site. I too had gotten the CD. I also laughed and cried at the same time while listening to it, though I never got to meet or know Christal, I was close with a child in a very similar health crisis. I mourned her passing as well when Christal passed.

In your journal entry you wrote "when I am writing this . . . I know some of the thoughts are a little irrational but I hope you can understand". You often seem to be really hard on yourself. It is almost as though while you rationally realize that things will never be "normal" again somewhere inside yourself you seem to believe that if you were strong enough, or spiritual enough, or had enough faith they somehow would be.
You will never forget Stanton, Jeff won't, Hayden won't, extended family won't, friends from St.Jude's won't. My mom died before I turned 4, that is just over 42 years ago. I still have some memories of her, as do others who knew her.
Losing a little one is not a "rational" thing. It is not how things are "supposed" to happen. Our babies are "supposed" to outlive us. Of course your thoughts about it are not always rational. An irrational thing has happened.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Hey there beautiful lady, it's been a long time since I've signed. I am wondering where you got the idea there is a proper way to grieve or that you have to hide your feelings and be ok for people to be proud of you. You are putting one foot in front of the other and if that's all you can do, it's all you can do. Rest in HIS grasp and take all of the time to heal in Him that you need. Never ever feel as if you have to apologize for your emotions.

I was just logging in to say..."You don't have to explain". You don't have to even understand yourself, much less owe others an explanation. I am sure that I speak for many when I say that we couldn't even BEGIN to understand even if you could explain. Someday when we all meet in Heaven, it will finally make sense. Until then, I pray that your days can be filled with that sense of peace that can ONLY come from Him.

Hi Tina,

It is Amy, your prayer warrior up here in Pittsburgh, PA.

I love reading your journals, and I hope that it helps release some of your thoughts.

You are always apoligizing for how you feel, (ie whine, etc), but I want you to know you don't have to apoligize. You have every right to feel the way you feel. My heart aches for all you parents who have an angel. I could not even imagine how you feel.
I am not trying to be mean, but I want to you know that there should NOT be a time limit on how long you grieve the loss of your precious son. Shame on those who say so.
You should be allowed to grieve for the rest of you life.

I admire you and your strength. You inspire me each and every journal you write. I appreciate you sharing. I am so blessed to have met you last year. (By the way, I still have to get those pictures developed) That will be a New Years resolution.

As I sat at my sister's on Christmas day, my niece's and nephews where all sitting in the living room, one on the couch next to me, 3 on their bean bag chairs, playing their game boys, and I tried to picture just one not there, as my sister complained there wasn't enough room. That was hard.
I just thought, be thankful there isn't enough room and that they are all here.

I prayed for all of you who wish you had your baby back.

I have to get back to work, but I just wanted you to know that you don't have to apoligize for how you feel.

I will continue to pray for you, Jeff and Hayden.
I know I don't sign very often, but I think of you all every day.

With Love in Christ,
Amy :)

Tina - Please don't ever apologize for your "whining". Until someone has lost a child, no one can understand what you are going through and what you are feeling, so no one can judge you for how you are handling the situation. This is your own grieving process to be done at your speed and your way, no one elses. We are your friends, your prayer warriors, your extended family.....it is to all of us that you should share your feelings - your TRUE feelings! And I for one, will never get tired of your "whining"....let's have some cheese with that "whine"! :) SMILE :) I'm glad that you were able to enjoy most of the holiday - Praying that 2007 brings you more peace and happiness! With continued love and blessings...

Tina I personally will never get tired of hearing you "whine". I too am afraid sometimes I will forget and I never want to forget any of the things I remember about Stanton, Emma Grace, Ali, Jake, my mother and the list could go on forever. I often walk through the hospital to the cafeteria and the small plaque on the wall of many others that is in honor of stanton catches my eye. I will see someone or something that reinds me of him. I have never seen any other two children chasing each other with TPN bags in tow through the cafeteria - guess there will always be somethings that are uniquely stanton and emma grace. I love you guys and am thinking about you as you start another year without him being physically present in your lives. Remember he will always be a part of our lives and he will not only never be forgotten by you, but there are others of us that will also never forget. Love to you all!

Sand Fleas
written by Susan Larson

“The death of a child takes you places you’ve never been before, not only in terms of emotions, but in terms of awareness of all that is. I liken the experience to playing on the shore with your friends and complaining about an occasional bite from a sand flea. It’s painful and annoying, but at least everyone else understands how you feel when you’re bitten.

Then one day, a wave grabs you and pulls you out into the ocean where you are bitten by a shark. You feel pain you never imagined could exist. And you’re alone in unfamiliar territory. When you get back to shore, you try to explain your pain to your friends, but the worst pain they can imagine is being bitten by 1,000 sand fleas. That’s all they know. There is no way to explain it to them.

But it’s not just the pain you can’t explain. While struggling under the water you’re suddenly aware that there is infinitely more to life than what we see on the shore. You see the ocean floor with coral reefs and rock formations, things you had never before imagined. You have tapped into the vastness of creation to a higher degree.

And again, there is no way to adequately describe this vastness you see and feel. You have nothing to compare it to.

You have a true sense of a greater dimension, and you know that the loved one you miss is out there. You also know your loved one is not lost, but has only gone before you to a place more beautiful and vast than those on the shore could ever imagine. Yes, you still get annoyed with the sand fleas, but you now realize how trivial they are. And even if your friends don’t understand you, you know there is Someone greater out there who does.”

Christmas’

Each Christmas I remember
The ones of years ago;
I see my Parents and Grandparents with their Santa glow.

Each Christmas finds me dreaming
Of days that used to be,
When we hid presents here and there,
For all our family.

Each Christmas I remember
The smell in the air,
Of roasting turkey, pies
And cookies everywhere.

Each Christmas finds me longing
For Christmas’ now past,
And I am back in childhood
As long as memories last.

From our family to yours.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year!!

The Stockings Were Hung:

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
But one special stocking was no longer there
All that was left were the memories bittersweet
Of a life that had ended so incomplete

The family had pictures all gathered around
That sometimes made all of them tear up and frown
For the sorrow and sadness without their sweet child
Made it difficult for the whole family to smile

Although there were times when they felt him(her) so close
As if they were feeling some kind of a ghost
The signs that were sent were so special and clear
That they felt that he(she) truly was so very near

They often would talk to him(her) as if he(she) was there
Sometimes they would smile but also shed tears
For each Christmas that came brought with it such pain
That they felt in their hearts would always remain

Then one special moment on one special day
He(She) came to them and simply took them away
To fly through the heavens and up to the stars
A beautiful place that was not very far

He(She) showed them where they would all join once again
A place full of beauty no sorrow or pain
A place where he(she) is happy with heavenly friends
A place where we too will also ascend

After their amazing visit was through
This family was no longer terribly blue
For they finally realized one day not to far
They would all be together on a heavenly star

Praying for your family!! As I was walking on my treadmill at home this morning, I put in a CD that I just bought to help pass the time. A song came on that flooded my mind of the many St. Jude families that have lost their sweet babies to cancer. I just wanted to share the lyrics with you in hope it will bring comfort to you during this Christmas season.

Watermark \ Glory Baby

Glory baby you slipped away as fast as we could say baby…baby..
You were growing, what happened dear?
You disappeared on us baby…baby..
Heaven will hold you before we do
Heaven will keep you safe until we’re home with you…
Until we’re home with you…

Miss you everyday
Miss you in every way
But we know there’s a
day when we will hold you
We will hold you
You’ll kiss our tears away
When we’re home to stay
Can’t wait for the day when we will see you
We will see you
But baby let sweet Jesus hold you
‘till mom and dad can hold you…
You’ll just have heaven before we do
You’ll just have heaven before we do

Sweet little babies, it’s hard to
understand it ‘cause we’re hurting
We are hurting
But there is healing
And we know we’re stronger people through the growing
And in knowing-
That all things work together for our good
And God works His purposes just like He said He would…
Just like He said He would…

BRIDGE:
I can’t imagine heaven’s lullabies
and what they must sound like
But I will rest in knowing, heaven is your home
And it’s all you’ll ever know…all you’ll ever know…

When I heard the chorus, God brought you and so many other families that I've come to love through caringbridge to mind. Remember the Savior of the world is holding your baby until you see him again!

Hey Mrs. Tina-
Before the holidays get here, I just wanted to tell you Merry Christmas. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this time. I know somewhat what you are feeling, this is our first year without both of our parents-- but it is still totally different when it is your child. Stanton made a huge impact on this Earth and his legacy will be remembered. I can tell Hayden is making a huge impact as well and will leave his mark here. They learned from 2 great parents. tina, I wish I could tell you that the third year is better, but I cant. Grief over losing a child ,regardless of age, is the worst. I did discover that grief almost became my friend. It was something I could clutch on to during the sickening pain that seemed would never go away. Although there are those people who cluelessly think we should "move on",we really don't want to. IT seems moving on is somehow losing touch with our precious sons.
we both have loving families, great children, and great church and church families. We have much to be thankful for. I have been blessed in so many ways, but I will never be the same again. I will miss sonny every day of my life,as it should be. I will say that life does get better. there is much support and peace and comfort through our precious savior. He is the reason I survive. I m reading a book by Elizabeth Edwards that is really good She gave an ananolgy that was realy good. She says losing a child is like having an incurable disease. There is no cure. The symptoms can be treated and we can live good lives, but it never goes away. That just hit it on the head for me. We will survive this . You are an awesome testmony, and have many prayer warriors. Just don't be to hard on yourself. We will overcome.

I remember when my grandma was in the nursing home and I would go with my family at Christmas (and any other times) and visit with her. She had suffered a stroke and couldn't speak much any longer, but I would always show up and brush her hair, put bright red lipstick on her and bright pink blush on her cheeks. We'd go down to the lunch room and my mom and her would have coffee together. Unfortunately, she has now been gone for around 20 years, but I can still to this day remember going at Christmas and how everybody was lined in the halls waiting for somebody to show up. I'm sure many of them never had anybody to come visit with them. How sad. You are doing a wonderful thing by being their Santa for the day.

I think I have signed your guestbook one time, but I have followed Stanton's story for about 2 years. I just want to tell you how much reward you will get from visiting the nursing home. I challenge each person that comes to this site to buy one gift and carry it to a person in the nursing home that is not visited by family. You will have the best Christmas ever. I love reading your journal everyday, please never stop. You are such an inspiration and I am so thankful you are taking it on to make sure that person has a gift. Keep the faith and the work of our Lord and Savior.
