I hope you all have survived the Blizzard of 2011. The kids and I spent lots of time digging us out. Now the kids have enjoyed playing in the snow with their friends.

Matt is doing well now, he had strep about 2weeks ago. He slept alot, he was really wiped.

Matt has done really well on his second semester in 7th grade....HIGH honors, Straight A's again!!!! we are very proud of him!! He has grown so tall and looks GREAT!!!! His hair is crazy...he is growing it out and if he raises $1,000. He is going to shave it on June 4th at Relay For Life in Tinley Park. If you would like to donate to his cause, www.relayforlifetinleypark.com THEN click in Matt Corse or Motley Pitt Crew

In March he is going to try out for Volleyball at Drauden Point. If he does not make it the team he is going to do Track again.

Enjoy watching the BIG game tomorrow....GO Pitt!!!
Thanks for checking in.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010 2:49 PM CST

The kids finished their first semester of school, they all had fantastic grades and wonderful news during conferences. Matt had straight A's. Nicole and Kevin had A's and B's. I am very proud of all of them!!!

Sunday, Nov. 14th Matt is doing his first 8K in Joliet. Matt has only run two 5K's previously, one in June and July. Hope he does well considering he has not been running that much since Cross Country and Football has ended!!

I am still mending from my sprained ankle and DVT(blood clot). I am going to physical therapy 3 times a week and every 7-10 days to physician to check my coumidin level(thats the blood thinner I am on).

Have a wonderful day. We are having beautiful weather for Chicago considering its November!!

Sunday, October 24, 2010 2:31 PM CDT

Matt has been complaining that he doesn't see too well in school so we went and got eyes checked and he now has glasses and contacts. I love his glasses, he likes contacts better!

Matt had his last football game yesterday. He played really hard and he caught an interception and ran it back for about 5 yards before being tackled. The team they played was a tough team....final was 13 to 6, they lost.

Thanks for checking in.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010 8:26 PM CDT

This past Sat Matt had a football game in Waukegan. He played really well. They scored many touchdowns. They were victorious 41-6. After the game we went to Great America, well not me though. I severely sprained my ankle last week. As much as I wanted to go, it would not have been fun not being able to go on roller coasters. It was the kids first time going there...they had a BLAST!!!!

Today we had Matt's annual check up at Hope. We have been nervous this last week. It is extremely stressful. Matt appears to be a healthy active child but you just never know!! Matt has periodically been complaining of side pain close to his abdominal surgery. We got all preliminary blood labs back today and they are normal. We did get sent for an ultrasound while waiting for blood lab results to double check the pains. And it is a HUGE relief to announce that they detected nothing abnormal!!!!

After school today Matt had another cross country meet. He had a little slower time. I think it is because he was up at 5:30 this morning. He still finished his 2 mile run in 17:50, which is nothing to be upset about. Matt looked exhausted tonight and went up to bed just a few minutes after 8.

Thanks for stopping by and for the prayers!!!!!

Saturday, October 2, 2010 10:09 AM CDT

We have had busy days still. Matt had 3 Cross Country Meets this week and today a football game in Waukegan.
Matt's record is 2-3 and he is going to possibly playing center. After the game we are going to Great America. This will be the first time that any of our kids have gone to Great America. Unfortunately I cannot go with today because I severly sprained my ankle and per doctor orders need to have it up and to rest. I am so bummed because I was looking forward to going.
On Tuesday morning, the 5th, we are going to be going for Matt's annual oncology appointment.

Friday, September 10, 2010 11:29 PM CDT

Matthew has been keeping us very busy. He is in seventh grade now and is on the Cross Country Team at his school. Matt practices daily after school. Today he had his first meet and he did amazing!!!! We are so proud of him. He has to run 2 miles this year. He finshed really strong and came in 13 out of 45 runners. Not sure his exact time, he will find out on Monday. I am guessing its around 15 minutes. Matt is also playing football. He is on Plainfield Jr Cats inhouse/travel team. Their first two games they were not victorious. Tomorrow he has a game in Buffalo Grove. Hoping they can win this one. Matt has played defensive end in past games. This Sat he is going to be a corner back. Please keep Matt in your prayers that he remains NCD!(No Cancer Detected)

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 8:11 PM CDT

At Matt's last track meet he jumped 10', we are very proud of him. He continues to work hard by practicing everyday after school.

On June 6th Matt will be running a 5K with his brother Kevin at Hope Childrens. We have been busy training for this. It is really going to be a challenge considering that it is the day after relay, but if Matt has taught us anything it's that this child is able to overcome ANYTHING!!

Thank you for visiting, please just sign the guestbook so that I know that you stopped by.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 6:51 PM CDT

Yesterday Matt had his first track meet. He only participated in one event, the long jump. Matt did 3 jumps and his longest jump was 8'7". I am very proud of him!!!

Tomorrow Matt & his brother, Kevin, have their first training session for the 5K run they have on June 6th. This run is a survivor run sponsored thru his hospital, Hope Childrens!!

It is such a joy to tell you that Matt is going to be 12 on Saturday. He has been so active lately and it is a joy to see.

Tomorrow and Friday are going to be sad days because I am going to my Uncle Bob's wake and funeral. He lost his battle to cancer on Tues. Please say a prayer for his family at the time.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 11:53 AM CST

Matt is doing so well...he had a couple boughts of cold this winter and also had pneumonia(he missed a week of school) due to this.

Matt is looking forward to going out for Track at Drauden this Spring.

Through Matt's hospital he will be participating in a 5K run on June 6th. Matt is constantly telling everyone about the 5K race that he is going to be running in 4 months.

Thanks for checking in on Matt. Sign the journal if you have a moment.

Thursday, October 29, 2009 10:26 PM CDT

Matt had a great Cross Country Season...it was his first time doing this. He enjoyed it and really bettered his time just over 13 minutes for a mile and a half. As Matt says he jogs most of it and then sprints the last 30 yards. We are very proud of him!!

Matt's playing for the Plainfield Junior Cats Steelers is also over. He made some amazing tackles and almost caught an interception. They wound up 6-2.

Matt will be resting up for Track in the Springtime. Well he still plans on running 2 miles occassionally with his cousin or friend.

Matt had his annual checkup and wonderful news...still NCD!!! Also there is no more blood in his urine and we do not need to go back until next October!!!! Big Relief and doing the Happy Dance!!!

Thanks for checking in...Have fun Trick or Treating this weekend.

Friday, August 14, 2009 10:17 PM CDT

Matt had a fantasic time at Camp again this year!!! He got to ride in a '72 Monte Carlo and had Harley rides and also Hummer rides!!! He did really well throwing the Tomahawk. They took a cruise from downtown Chicago. And he enjoyed his daily icecream... sometimes 3 times a day! HE LOVES CAMP!!!

Matt is growing up so quick...he is going to be in sixth grade in less than two weeks!! School starts on Aug. 25th. Matt is excited to be in Middle School. It crazy to think that I will have two children in Middle School this year.

We have our last summer vacation starting this Sunday(16th), we are going up to my Mom's cottage in Michigan for a week.

Matt is supposed to be starting football practice this week but we will be in Michigan. Matt has moved up to Lightweight Division and is going to be a Plainfield Steeler this Fall!!!

Matt will also be doing Cross Country thru the school. This is a new sport for Matt, he wants to try it because his older cousin has told him about it and they have been running together.

Monday, August 3, 2009 9:52 PM CDT

We hope everyone has been enjoying their summer. The weather here in Plainfield has been so unpredictable lately! Matt has already begun conditioning for football, at lesat it hasn't been unbearbly hot for it.

Today seems strange because Matt isn't around. Matt is at Camp Quality all week long. We dropped him off yesterday(Sun). Matt & his companion have so much fun!!! We are anxious to hear about all the neat things they did when we pick him up on Sat. This camps motto is helping kids with cancer to be kids!

Also Matt got great news from his doctor at Hope. Matt is allowed to do Cross Country at Drauden Point Middle School!!! It is still hard to believe how active and healthy Matt is. He has gotten so big he is 5'1" 115 pounds and is going in 6th grade!!!!

Sunday, May 31, 2009 4:54 PM CDT

We just got back from another baseball game this weekend. Yesterday the Mariners won 15-10. Today was a back and forth lead. Matt got a double and a singe and ended up scoring twice, he stresses me out when he is out there because Matt is so daring with his leadoffs. Unfortunately his team, the Mariners, lost today 11-10:( He has another game again on Wed. Wed is also the kids last day of school and mine too, this school year has flown.

Matt's test all came back "normal." Matt does not need to go back to the doctor until October, YEAH!!

Matt is getting excited about Relay for Life that is this Sat., JUNE 6th at Tinley Park High School. Something new this year, Matt is going to be a survivor speaker. The Opening Ceremony begins at 2pm. Please come on out to enjoy the FUN activities we have planned this year at Relay!

Thanks again for checking on Matt.

Thursday, May 14, 2009 9:19 PM CDT

We have wonderful news!!! Matt does not have to splint his fingers anymore, they are healed and the doctor said he is able to resume sports again. The HUGE smile on his face was priceless. He had baseball practice tonight and now will be participating in all the games!

Last month Matt had to get 2 immunizations and we went earlier this week for titters and should have the results by Friday the 22nd. I will let you know how the blood results for the immunizations go.

Matt is getting really excited because he is the Team captain for Motley Pit Crew Relay For Life Team. This is their first year, it is an ALL kids team. They are very serious about raising money for The American Cancer Society.
Check out Matt's web page at relayforlifetinleypark.com then search participants MATT CORSE or MOTLEY PIT CREW. If you are able to donate to his cause he would greatly appreciate it. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 1:50 PM CDT

Matthew is doing well considering he broke a finger this past Sunday while playing football by our house with his friends. Matt is really bummed because now he is not able to play baseball. Matt was enjoying it and was doing well and LOVED being a catcher(just like Soto from the Cubs).

Matt cannot wait until tomorrow because he is going to the Cubs vs Marlins game.

Thanks for checking in on my little guy!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009 9:18 PM CDT

It has been awhile. Matt is still doing well. He has started baseball again. So we have been busy running him to and from practices. The positive this year is Matt and Kevin are on the same team, YEAH!! Kevin is not playing right now because he broke a bone in his foot while playing with friends in our basement. Kevin will get his cast off on April 8th and hoping it has healed properly.

Matt is so active and it is hard to believe that his birthday is only 3 weeks away...my little guy(well not really anymore, he is 5'2") will be turning 11 on APRIL 10th!!! Feel free to send him a birthday wish.

Thanks for checking in on us.

Friday, November 28, 2008 4:00 PM CST

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours was a little tough without having Papa with us(he passed Sept 2007). We enjoyed spending our day with Nana.

Tonight we have Matt's Camp Quality Reunion...hoping I can get a picture or 2 to post on here. Matt is looking forward to seeing his companion Hayward and his other camper friends.

These last few days have been nice spending time with the kids.

It is so hard to believe that 6 years ago Mike & I were in the hospital during Thanksgiving with our little guy. Not sure what to expect when they told us he had Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Matt has surprised all of us. WE have changed our thinking since that moment...FAMILY FIRST!!!Because you just never know. We have learned to say no to things and then done something as a family.

Thanks for stopping by.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 8:08 PM CST

Matt is finished with his football season...he is still wearing his Cowboys jersey often (basically whenever it is clean). Matt's team was undefeated!!! 8-0. They were the only ones in their division to hold that title! I enjoyed watching him play. He has so much heart and is such a joy to watch. We already know next year he will be moving up to the next division due to his age and weight. Matt is 109 pounds now!! I cannot believe it!

All the kids got their report cards last week and did very well!! Their conferences were fine, too nothing that we did not anticipate.

Kevin is trying a new sport at his school... he had his first day of wrestling practice today. Kevin liked it but is a little sore.

Matt & Nicole are joining the Chess club. It starts this Friday before school.

Thanks for checking in on us...have a wonderful day!

Friday, October 10, 2008 2:45 PM CDT

Hello everyone!
Matt went for his annual POST(Pediatric Oncologist Survivor Transition) appointment on Tuesday. We are happy to announce that all tests came back good! What a HUGE relief!!! I always have restless nights sleep before he goes, granted he looks wonderful but you never know what they may find. Matt was excited and thrilled to see DR. Turkey, oh I mean Jason! Matt has asked about him many times and he is back at Hope's clinic. The doctors did tell us that he should be wearing rib/kidney pads for football, he currently never has worn them. Matt had blood in his urine and they said with everything he has been through we do not want to injury his kidneys further. Back when he had radiation it caused him to lose part of his one kidney.

He is doing GREAT. Matt's football team the Featherweight Cowboys is unbelievable to watch! Last game they went against an undefeated team just like they were and they won 14-6!! That was the first team to score against so far. Matt has another game this Sunday at 11:30! Matt is looking forward to the game because he will be playing defensive tackle!!

Thanks for checking in on Matt. PLEASE take a moment to sign his guestbook.

Friday, October 3, 2008 2:04 PM CDT

Matthew is doing good considering he has had an unexplained rash on the left side of his face. He has had it since Sun Sept 21st. The 2 doctors we have seen are not sure what it is but Matt is taking a very strong antibiotic(3x a day) and using a topical ointment. Matt is not really bothered by it too much, it is still a little itchy at times, he nows not to touch it so he rubs his cheek on his shoulder.
Matt is having an amazing football season..there are 4 and 0. I will try to post a picture of him next week, he is so cute in his Cowboys gear.
Today Matt and his sister had school pictures. The kids are growing up so fast(5th and 2nd grade). They both picked out their clothes, they did not want help from Mom.
Thanks for checking in on Matt and have a wonderful weekend!!
Please check out another friend's website he has gone through treatment for Neuroblastoma similar to what Matt did, it is www.caringbridge.org/drewpershon. Drew just got his tubes out!!! Huge and exciting day for them.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008 2:54 PM CDT

Things are great. We are trying to dry out after all the rain. Yesterday our schools were closed, it was a FLOOD DAY!! The kids and I enjoyed our day off and enjoyed playing with their friends.

Matthew's football game was cancelled Sunday. He is doing GREAT, loves playing and is amazing to watch. His next game is Sunday at 11:30am.

Also Matt's Pit Crew Relay for Life team is selling GOLD CANYON CANDLES, ALL profits benefit the American Cancer Society. If you are interested in ordering any PLEASE email me at ecorse@learningcommunity202.org. I need your order by Sept 25th. THANKS for you support!

Have a wonderful day, Liz & Matt

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 9:40 PM CDT

Today is Matthew's brother's birthday. Kevin is 12!!
We had a busy day. This morning we took the boys to see Dark Night(Batman movie) at the IMAX theater in Woodridge. They LOVED it!! Tonight we went to Vito & Nick's II. We kept Matthew from going to Day #2 of Football Evaluations, FAMILY FIRST!! It was nice that Nana(my Mom) and Grandpa(Mike's Dad) came out to join us for dinner and then cake back at our house.

It is also hard to believe that Matthew leaves for camp THIS SUNDAY!!! I still need to go shopping for variety of camp essentials. If you'd like to send Matt mail or package at camp, please allow about 3 days for it to arrive. Address it to:

Matthew Corse
Manitoqua Ministries/Camp Quality
8122 Sauk Trail
Frankfort, IL 60423

Matt gets so excited when he gets mail...they make a big deal at lunch time!! We LOVE to see who he got a postcard or letter from that week.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful night!!!

Monday, July 21, 2008 10:34 PM CDT

We just got back from another weekend in Michigan at my Mom's cottage. Saturdays weather was not what we hope for when we are up there, rainy all day so we went to Otsego to see Space Chimps. It was a cute movie, the kids all liked it. Sunday started out very gloomy but eventually turned into a beautiful day, we spent the day on the pontoon jumping off into the deep area. We came back today just in time for Mike to leave for work.

Tonight Matthew started football. Each night it is different drills and lasts 2 and a half hours. Very thankful tonight was overcast so it wasn't so hot for all those boys out there practicing. This week he has conditioning and next week they do player evaluations to place him on a team. He really enjoys playing football!!

In 2 weeks he leaves for Camp Quality, in Frankfort, Illinois. It is a week long camp offered to children who have gone through cancer. Matt is getting excited about going.

Thanks for checking in on Matt, if you have a moment please sign our guestbook.

Monday, June 23, 2008 3:08 PM CDT

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I am sorry for not updating in such a LONG time. We have been very busy. Matthew nad Nicole just finished up their baseball and softball season. They both did extremely well. Matthew is a natural!! He loved being a pitcher and also a catcher this year. We have 5 weeks off from sports and then football season will begin at the end of July. Matthew is a such a joy to watch he has such enthusiasm when he is playing sports...LOVE watching him. Never thought we would be able to see him play baseball and football after we got the news of him having cancer almost 6 years ago.

On JUNE 7th we participated in Relay for Life at Tinley Park High School and MATT'S PIT CREW raised over $12,000!!! He was one of the many proud survivors at Relay and helped hold the American Cancer Society Relay 2008 Banner. This year was extremely hard because my Dad passed last Sept 19th and not having him there was difficult, but seeing Matt's smile helped get us through it.

Thanks for checking in on Matt..hope you are doing well and trying to stay cool on these warm days.

Wednesday, April 23, 2008 10:29 PM CDT

Tonight Matthew had his third baseball game. Matt's big play of the game was when he hit a ball past the third baseman and got a 2 run RBI!!! He played centerfield, catcher and first baseman today. He had some good plays and is a joy to see play. Nana nad Grandpa came out tonight!! He is a fighter...and doesn't give up and gives it his all...he gives it a 150% They played the Red Sox and they ended up losing 13- 11:(

He has another game on Sat and Sun, hoping they can win at least one of them, great if its both. I hope to remember my camera for one of the games so you can see him as a TWIN.

Also we have our annual KIDS STRIKE OUT CANCER MAY 4th(Sun)at CHANNAHON LANES in CHANNAHON at 1pm. PLEASE come if your kids want to have a FUN time and it benefits the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY MATT'S PIT CREW RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM! For more info or directions email me at michaelcorse@sbcglobal.net

Have a wonderful night! Thanks for checking in on Matt.

Monday, April 7, 2008 7:39 PM CDT

I know it has been awhile since I last updated. Things are going well here. Baseball practice and games are keeping us very busy!!! Kevin and Matthew are on different leagues/teams and Nicole is starting softball this year. The boys and their first games Sat and they both ended up losing..can only get better, right???

Matt just received his 3rd Quarter Report Card and he did AWESOME...STRAIGHT A'S!!!!! I am so proud of him!!!

I am so thrilled to say that Matthew will be turning 10 on THURSDAY!!! It is his GOLDEN Birthday!!! He has come a long way and we treasure all his crazy and moody moments... Matt's birthday will be a little sad though because his Papa's birthday was on April 11th and we always celebrated them together. We miss you so much Papa!!!

If you get a chance please sign his guestbook and wish him HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Send him a belated card if you can, he would LOVE it!!!

Thanks for stopping by and checking in on my little man...well actually not so little anymore(he is 4'10" and 95 pounds!!!)

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Monday, February 11, 2008 9:16 PM CST

Matthew had an exciting weekend...he went to the Dells with his good friend and his family. It sounds like they had a BLAST!! Matt loved the Tornado ride! I wish we were able to go, maybe next year.

This morning Matt had another check up for his finger. GREAT news he got the tape removed!!! YEAH his finger is healed! He is also able to participate in P.E. again.

We would like to wish everyone a VERY HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

We are busy planning for our Annual Matt's Pit Crew Relay For Life Candlelight Bowl on Feb 23rd at Channahan Lanes. If you'd like to purchase tickets or donate an item please call me, Liz at 815-436-9979. It is $50 a couple that includes dinner and bowling. It benefits the American Cancer Society!!

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 8:21 PM CST

Matt went back to the specialist for another check up for his broken finger. The doctor removed the splint and taped his ring finger and middle finger together. Matt likes it much better. Having it taped makes it is easier to remove so no more bagged hand for his showers, YEAH!!

Thanks for checking in. Have a good night!!

Sunday, January 20, 2008 9:01 PM CST

We had an awesome weekend!! We spent it up at my Mom's cottage in Michigan. I believe it was the coldest weekend in a long time(3 degress at the ski resort). We all went skiing at Timber Ridge Ski Resort..even Matt with his broken finger. All the kids took lessons(5 kids with 1 instructor---for about 75 minutes!!) , for that time we got acclimated again being on skiis after lessons we took a break to warm up in the lounge(drinks and lunch). When we were back out on the slopes we did a little more practice on the bunny hill with all the kids soon after the boys were ready for the bigger hills with the ski lifts. Matt did not want to bother with ski poles and was zooming down the hill. If Matt fell we would hurry to get to him and by the time we were close he would already be up again and going down the hill. Ally and Nicole were content with the bunny hill. Maybe next year the girls will venture up on the ski lifts. ALL THE KIDS DID AMZINGLY WELL AS DID THE ADULTS (it was over 15 years since we were on the slopes.)

Matt was amazing to see ski, never thought he'd be doing this 5 years ago!! He loved going FAST!!!

Glad Audrey and Jack and their kids were able to join in the fun!!

We have another appointment tomorrow with the doctor to see how Matt's finger is healing.

Not sure what else we will be doing Mon, we are all off for Martin Luther King Jr .

Wednesday, January 16, 2008 8:26 PM CST

As many of you know that Matt is one active little boy. This Friday he spent the night over at a really good buddies house. On Saturday they were outside playing basketball and football. Two sports Matt loves. While playing tackle football, Matt got tackled and still played for another ten/fifteen minutes longer when Joey and Matt walked into the house and Matt was in tears. Two of his fingers on his left hand were swollen, ice was put on it right away. Sunday morning he woke up in pain and could barely move it so Mike took him to the ER at St. Joseph's and they said it was broken and referred us to a specialist. Mike took him to the specialist on Monday and Matt broke his left ring finger's growth plate. He has a metal splint around his finger and down to his wrist. We need to go back to the specialist on Monday to make sure that the bones have remained lined up.

Since we do not have school on Friday we are leaving early Friday morning to go to my Mom's cottage in Michigan for the weekend to go snow skiing. This little accident is putting a damper for Matt at his possibilty to try snow skiing.

I am really looking forward to a laid back relaxing weekend. My cousin and her family are also joining us. They cannot wait to get away also!! Keep your fingers crossed that the kids love skiing(all first times!!) and that we come back with no additional injuries.

Thanks for seeing what's new with Matt!!

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 7:12 PM CST

Hi! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years. Spending time with your family is so precious and needs to be treasured!!

In the middle of Dec Matt had his 6 month check up and everything looks GREAT...he does not need to go back to clinic for a YEAR!!! This is truelly amazing first time to go this long between check ups...just remembering what he dealt with when he was 4 and a half to 6 years old. He is my little fighter!!

Sorry we do not have a picture from Christmas..still need to download our pictures from our video camera. But I love this one of Matt and Papa!!

Have a good 2008!! Thanks for checking in on my little guy. Please take a brief moment so we know that you were here.

Friday, November 23, 2007 8:40 AM CST

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Yesterday was a really rough day for me...lots going through my mind, lots of tears shed. 5 years ago our nightmare began when Matthew was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Within an hour when we got back to our room at Hope Children's Hospital we received a call from my brother-in-law letting us know some VERY sad news that Mike's Mom passed away. That was an awful day!! The following week our Thanksgiving was spent in the hospital while our son was going through chemo treatment not knowing what to expect. Looking at him now you would never guess what his little body went trough.

This Thanksgiving was difficult remembering all that happened 5 years ago since it feel on the 22nd!! It was even more difficult because I do not have my Dad here to help us celebrate. It was a very small gathering here at the Corse's...Mike had to work but happily my Mom came by. We did have our tearful moments but remembered many funny times.

Tonight we are going to Matt's Camp Quality Reunion in Lynwood. After it I am going up to Michigan with the kids to my folks cottage and tomorrow we will be cutting down a Xmas tree( a tradition we started 13 years ago!!) and after that we willing be doing another Turkey dinner. Unfortunatley Mike cannot make it up there this year...he has to work and doesn't get home until Sun at 9am :( It will be hard because it is the first time going up to the cottage since my Dad has been gone.

I hope everyone enjoyed seeing their families yesterday or this weekend.

Saturday, September 22, 2007 10:28 PM CDT

This has been a VERY sad week. My Dad passed away on Wed at the age of 68. We all have heavy hearts and miss him so much!!!

Last Sat at Matthew's third football game Matthew caught a pass and scored his first touchdown and was so excited when he got home he had to call Papa. Papa was so proud of Matt that he was telling his neighbors about his Grandson's catch and touchdown.

My Dad has battled Leukemia since 2001. Lately my Dad has been having difficulty breathing(very winded and difficult walking even short distances). I saw him and my Mom on Tues evening and my Dad looked so tired and uncomfortable. I came home so worried about him and crying on Mike's shoulder. But felt reassured because my Dad was going to another heart specialist Wed morning, unfortunately he never made it there :-(

The last few days have been consumed with getting everything set for his wake and funeral.

Today(Sat) has been spent at the football field. Matt had an early game. My Mom and Matt's Godfather(My Brother- Gary) came out to watch. We were so happy Matt caught another pass but got tackled shortly after. The Cowboys won 12 to 6. It was a really good game.

Nicole had a 1pm cheerleading game. She looks so cute out there!!! Everyone can hear her cheer, too. The Bucs won their game!!

Kevin had a late game. He is playing really good also . Kevin made some good tackles and enjoys playing center. His team (the Lions) lost 20 to 0.

Tomorrow we have my Dad's wake at Hickeys Funeral Home in Midlothian from 2-8pm. His Funeral will be at St. Christopher in Midlothian at 9:30am on Mon. Please say an extra prayer for us in our time of sorrow. This has been an extremely emotional time for me. He aws such a fighter!!! I MISS HIM SO MUCH!!! But have to remember he is at peace now!!!

Friday, September 14, 2007 9:46 PM CDT

Things have been really busy here, I am sorry for not updating sooner. I have been teaching everyday...HUGE change!! Haven't worked daily since before kids- almost 12 years. After school I am Mom shuttling the boys to football practice and Nicole to cheerleading.

So far the boys have played 2 games...Matt lost the first game 6 -0 and his second one the Cowboys won 14-0. Matt is having FUN and is loving that he is in a new league this year!!(He is a on Middleweight) MATT LOVES FOOTBALL!!!

Kevin has lost both of his games First game 14 - 0 and the second game was also 14-0. Things will hopefully turn around for the Lions!

I am hoping that they all can win their games tomorrow!! We will be up early, Kevin needs to be at his field at 7:30AM!! Nicole & Matt both have 1pm games at different locations (of course).

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Tuesday, August 21, 2007 9:13 PM CDT

Matt has been very busy going to football practice 3- 4 times a week. HE LOVES PLAYING FOOTBALL!!! This is Matt's third year and another different division, he is on the Middleweight Cowboys and Kevin moved up to Cruiserweight Lions. Matt is now weighing 86pounds and is 4 foot 9 inches!! WOW has he grown!! He has overcome so much..back in Jan of 2003 he weighed 38 pounds, those were devasting days and will always remember my little frail guy. That is an image I do not want to see anytime soon!

Matt is so excited to start school... in 2 days. He is counting down the days!! He cannot wait to wear his new shoes and see his friends again!

Yesterday we went to the Soxs game with the POPS group through Matt's Hospital. We had a blast seeing them beat Kansas City! Kevin and Matt liked doing the different fundamentals during the middle of the game because it was not open before gametime certain parts still were wet. The pitching exercise(you get to throw 3 ball) Matt pitched at 56mph..after doing so he said his arm hurt. Matt really liked sitting with his buddy Lucas..they are so cute and silly together.

Tomorrow is our last day of FUN before the routine of school begins.

Sunday, August 5, 2007 9:18 PM CDT

Today we dropped Matt off at Camp Quality. He is so excited to go again, this is his fourth yaer. He will be away for a week. Yes it will feel strange without Matt here but the Camp is so amazing! They plan so many cool things for the kids to do...it is a wonderful organization! Matt has so much FUN and gets to see his friends again. We will be anxious to hear about everything that Hayward(his companion) and Matt did on Saturday when we pick him up.

Saturday, August 4, 2007 12:35 AM CDT

This summer is flying by...sorry so long between updates. 2 weeks ago Kevin & Matt have started football conditioning. Yes it was some HOT days out there to be in full pads but it is always like that every year. Also Nicole has begun cheerleading practice, she is so happy to be a football cheerleader finally(she had to be in 1st garde).

Matt is so excited because tomorrow(Sun) he leaves for Camp Quality for a week. Camp Quality is a 7 day camp just for kids dealing/dealt with cancer. He loves going there, this will be his fourth year. They always do so many neat things!!!

PLEASE check out our photos...put some in from Wisconsin and Michigan.

Thanks for signing our guestbook too. We love to see who visits us.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 8:18 PM CDT

Today Matt had a POST( Pediatric Oncology Survivor Transition) appointment. Matt is part of a survivor study because of the experimental treatment(chemotherapy/stem cell transplants and other meds)they used on him. This was Matt's first appointment like this and will need to be done yearly. So far his tests have come back with good results...NO CANCER DETECTED!!! Matt's Audiology test shows no change in his high frequency hearing loss. By the end of the week we will be getting the rest of the scan results back. All the nurses and doctors say he looks GREAT!! Matt is 4'9" and weighs 83 pounds!!! He is eating lots and has so much energy..he is a joy to watch!! Sometimes extremely silly but aren't ALL kids! The unbelievable part is that we do not need to go back to clinic for a routine check up for 6 months!!

The last week and a half the kids have had swim lessons. Their last class is on Turs. They are all doing so well...becoming little fish in the water!!

All the kids and Mike and I are looking forward to Sat because we are going to Wisconsin for a few days for my family reunion. I will post photos from it when we get back.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 2:13 PM CDT

Back on June 2 - 3rd we had Relay for Life in Tinley Park...Matt's Pit Crew. It was a really FUN day!! WE raised enough money to be at the PLATINUM level again!!!Over $13,000. HUGE thanks to all of you that donated to Matt's Pit Crew The American Cancer Society. Together we can make a difference!

Tonight the boys are anxious because they have their first Playoff game. If they win they will play again on Sat, if not their baseball season will be over. We are all praying for a win tonight(it'll be their first for the season). Will post results of how they do.

Thanks for visiting Matt.

Monday, May 21, 2007 10:17 PM CDT

The boys had a game on Sat and did not do so good...they lost again!! I feel so bad for all he boys on the Dodgers.

Tonight the boys had a game...I went with Nicole for about an hour...when we left at the bottom of the 4th they were losing 12 to 8. The boys just got home and they did not lose yet didn't win..THEY TIED!!! 14 to 14!!! We will take it!! Matt had a single RBI but when stealing to second the other team overthrew so coaches said go 3!! but they were quickier with their throw and got Matt out. Kevin had 2 walks and struck out other time at bat...Kevin did score 2 runs!!

The boys do not have another game until after the Holiday weekend... I am going to be heading up to my parents' cottage in Michigan from Fri-Tues. We are all looking forward to going up there(hoping traffic in Indiana won't be too bad).

Please take a moment to sign in...we love to see who visits us. Thanks in advance!!

Yesterday we had another baseball game. The Dodgers played an amazing game. Matthew hit a triple and walked once. Kevin was walked once. It was such an exciting game and we all were hoping it would have ended better. The final was 7 to 8:( It is a little frustrating that the Dodger's have not won a game yet. I am really hoping that this Sat we will get a WIN...just one so the kids will be happier after their game. They all are trying so hard and starting to play like a team. We only have about 5 games left for the regular season. The boys last game is Sat, JUNE 2nd.

Enjoy the beautiful day!! I think I am going to take our dog,Rocky, for a walk. If I can get him out from under our bay window...he loves it under there because it is cool--Rocky is a Siberian Husky(lots of fur).

Wow! Can you believe I am actually doing 2 entrees on the same day! Check out the other one too.

I just got back from Matt's baseball game. Kevin did not play becuase he came home from school sick today:( The Dodgers really did much better today, finally had some good hits. Matt had a RBI and scored that inning , Matt made an awesome catch in left field and next time up he had another hit. WAY TO GO, WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!! Matt also was awarded the game ball today!! This was a great ending to a good game he played. Unfortunately the Dodgers did not win it was 9 to 5. Better luck next time. Their next game is on Friday and back to the field for a 9am game Saturday.

Gotta go shag the boys out of their showers. Have a GREAT night!!

Monday, May 7, 2007 9:23 AM CDT

The boys had a game on Saturday. Matt hit a grounder and was thrown out. Kevin had a lot of foul tips just couldn't straigten it out! I am hoping at tonight's game they both get some GOOD hits!! I will try to update after the game.

On SUNDAY we had our KIDS STRIKE OUT CANCER BOWL in CHANNAHON. We had 41 bowlers!!! All the kids had a BLAST!!
The raffle baskets were a huge hit. Kevin C. won the family basket; Jessie B. the Girls basket and Jack H. the Boys basket. Again thank you for supporting Matt's Pit Crew Relay for Life the American Cancer Society.

I cannot believe we have less than a month to our Relay for Life. If you'd like to support Matt's Pit Crew PLEASE send a check made out to ACS(AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY) to us:

Liz Corse
5278 Eaglewood Court
Plainfield, IL 60586-7234

(We will turn it into ACS's Office to make sure Matt's Pit Crew gets the credit)

THANK YOU FOR CHECKING UP ON MATT! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!

Wednesday, April 25, 2007 7:58 PM CDT

We have been busy with baseball again. Matthew and Kevin are on the same league and team together, the Dodgers. The boys have played 3 games already. Unfortunately they have not been victorious with them. They were supposed to play tonight but it was cancelled because of the large amount of rain we got yesterday and today. Their next game is Sat at 3pm.

Saturday is going to be busy for us. My Godson,Jack, is making his First Communion at Noon in Winfield. Mike will be coming back to Plainfield with the boys(they have a 3pm game) and Nicole and I will go to Jack's Celebration!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I will update again this weekend to let you know how the boys do.

Tuesday, April 10, 2007 10:15 PM CDT

Matthew had a very HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY today. It is so amazing to see Matt becoming so grown up. He has been through so much for only being 9 years old.

Matthew's Nana, Papa and Grandpa came out to celebrate his birthday and enjoy Sloppy Joes. Matthew chose his Birthday Dinner before he left for school today. Matthew is looking forward to celebrating his Birthday again on Sunday with his Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He is so lucky to have TWO birthdays!!

We have a busy weekend because the boys have their FIRST BASEBALL GAME. Mom is glad to only have to drag Nicole to one game per day this year!! It will be nice for anyone who wants to come out for a game because you get to see both Corse's playing at once.

Check out our photo page..I added some recent pictures.

Saturday, April 7, 2007 12:20 AM CDT

Sorry for not updating sooner. Matthew is doing well both medically and in school he got all A's on his last report card!! He is very energetic. Matthew is enjoying baseball and likes being on the same team(the Dodgers) with his brother, Kevin. The last time Matthew stepped on a sacle he weighs...85 pounds!! It is amazing how much he has grown and how HUGE his appetite has been lately, he is an eating machine.

We do not go back to clinic until JUNE!! It seems so weird to go so long between appointments. Matthew has been cancer free for 4 and a half years!!!

Also Matthew is excited because in 3 days he will be celebrating his 9th Birthday!!!

WE HOPE EVERYONE HAS A WONDERFUL EASTER!!! All my kids are looking forward to the Easter Bunny coming and bring toys and finding the hidden eggs.

Thursday, March 1, 2007 3:50 PM CST

Things are going well here. Matt is a little hyper lately. Last weekend we signed the boys up for Plainfield Junior Cats Football and Matt is 82.6 lbs!! WOW has he gotten so big. He is doing well in school he likes Spelling and Math best. Matt is looking forward to tonight because he has a baseball meeting. He has the same coach as last year!! The BIG difference is that Kevin and Matt will be on the same team..the Dodgers. That will be so nice for me(and Mike)... only one practice to drive to and one game, no dropping off here and there.

Please take a moment to sign our guestbook.

Have a GREAT day!

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 2:16 PM CST

Yesterday I took Matt to his routine clinic appointment at HOPE. We saw Dr. Hayani, it's been along time since we've seen him. Matt's counts are all normal. We were told that we do not need to go back for 6 MONTHS!!! WOW, was that a surprise. When we go in June it will be a thourough check up/testing of all his organs and body( an entire day of scans/tests)..it is considered POST treatment since it has been 3 and a half years post his second stem cell transplant. I still am amazed at how well Matt is doing physically and academically... He got straight A's again this quarter!!! Just looking at Matt you would never guess that at age 4 and a half he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and went through such an aggressive chemo treatment.

Today my Dad has begun another round of Chemo treatments ... I am still waiting to hear from my parents to find out how my Dad responded to the chemo. Our family really hates the awful 6 letter word !!! Please keep us in your prayers!!

Saturday, January 20, 2007 4:14 PM CST

Matt has been looking forward to today because he was going to Jasmin's 7th Birthday Party. Jasmin was his best friend, Savannah's younger sister. We have not seen Amy or Lance in such a long time!! We miss Savannah so much but it was GREAT seeing them.

I will put a picture of Jasmin & Matt from today...She is such a pretty girl!!

I will write again in couple days to let you know how our clinic appointment goes.

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 6:41 PM CST

The holidays here were wonderful!! It is always so nice to get together with family.

I know this is Matt's site but I just hope you can say a few prayers for us(my family & parents). I recently was told by my dad, Ron, that he needs to start chemo AGAIN. This is the third relapse. They are going to be a little more aggresive, they will be giving him Retuxin(again-he had it in his second round) and some other chemo drugs along with Pretnizone. It is so hard to believe that this last round of Chemo didn't keep him in remission more than a few months. I am having a really hard time with this. My Dad was diagnosed with Chronic Lympocytic Leukemia (CLL) in 2000 but did not start Chemo until Sept 2002 just a mere 2 months before Matt was diagnosed.

I also am nervous because Matt goes to clinic this Monday for his 2 month check-up. I will post agin next week after his appointment.

Thanks for checking in on Matt and your continued support.

Wednesday, December 27, 2006 8:43 PM CST

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. It was so nice to get together with our family. Kevin and Matt's favorite gift was the MP3 players they got from Santa and Nicole loves her personal CD player..she is still listening to her Rudolf the Red Nose CD. I have posted some photos from Xmas..make sure to check out our photo page.

We wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year!!!

Wednesday, December 13, 2006 10:35 PM CST

Sorry I have not updated sooner. Mathew's clinic appointment went fine all his counts are normal. He is 4' 8" and 78 pounds. We do not need to go back until middle of Jan.

On Dec 1st we attended HOPE hospital Christmas party. Matt and Nicole had a great time. They really enjoyed making many different crafts.

Matt had his bone specialist follow up and his leg is completely healed. Matt got clearance to go back to gym class again.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Sunday, November 12, 2006 4:12 PM CST

GREAT news Matt got his cast off last Thurs. He is slowly putting weight on it again, still using his crutches. His ankle is stiff and he says it hurts some to walk on it...I think he is afraid but I don't blame him because he was on his cast for 6 weeks!!

We will update again next week because he goes to clinic on Mon for a routine check-up.

Have a good day...GO BEARS!!!!

Monday, October 16, 2006 8:43 PM CDT

Tonight Matthew's team the Cowboys had their last football game. Matt and another injured player helped cheer on the team from the bench. It was a rainy and cold one out there. It was a close one..Cowboys defense was tough tonight stopped the other team from scoring a few times. The final score was 6 to 7, Cowboys lost:(

The team is looking forward to their end of the year party this Friday!!

GO BEARS!!! It doesn't look good right Bears are down 14 to 0, close to the end of the 2nd quarter.

Friday, October 13, 2006 12:29 AM CDT

Yesterday we took Matt to the bone specialist to double check his leg since he has been in so much pain. He said it is still in proper alignment and the bone is starting to reform!! That is such a relief I was afraid it had shifted which it shouldn't because it is casted. We need to take him back on Nov 9 for another X-Ray and see if he can get the cast off. The doc said it is a painful break and healing process so we can still keep giving 400mg Advil as needed for pain.

Gotta go take Nicole to Kindergarten. Have a GREAT Day!!!

Wednesday, October 11, 2006 9:50 AM CDT

We are still catching up from not having electricity last week, some pretty nasty storms came through Mon. We had no power from Monday night until Friday. It was definetley a challenge at times, we used lots of candles and a few flashlights. Mike & I joked that we were camping in our house,no fun without a beach & nice weather!

Matthew is becoming really good on his crutches. He is still having LOTS of leg pain, sometimes with many tears. He is curently taking 400mg Advil 3 - 4 times a day. We all have been having restless night sleep because he is waking up between 3 and 5am with severe leg pain!! We are going to see the bone specialist tommorrow(a week early, we are nervous that is may not be healing properly). We will keep you posted to what the doc says.

Try to stay dry today.

PLEASE take a moment to let us know you visited Matt today. THANKS!!!!

Wednesday, September 27, 2006 10:26 PM CDT

Mike and I had a little R & R up in Michigan this past Mon - today(Wed). Nana and Papa were watching the kids for us. We called home on Monday night to find out how the kids have been. Dad said that at Religious Ed Matt's class was playing outside on the playground and Matt ended up running into a metal pipe, hurting his shin . Nana put ice on it and gave him Motrin because it was hurting. Tues still sore so they kept him home from school, so he wouldn't get bumped at all. Around noon today I got a call from Dad telling us that Matt was sent home from school because they do not want him hopping in school(he does not want to put weight on his right leg/foot). We couldn't concentrate on our golf game so we stopped playing and came home. Mike took Matt to St. Joseph's ER just to see how bruised it was. Well we found out he broke his Fibia- a clean break. Tomorrow we need to call a bone specialist to see about casting his leg and he'll be in a cast from 4 - 6 weeks.

Obviously his football season has been cut short..always next year!!!

Friday, September 22, 2006 9:12 PM CDT

Sorry so long since we updated. The kids have been keeping me busy between religious ed , homework, football practice and games.

This past Tues Matt had a routine check up at HOPE. All his counts are normal and he is becoming a little moose...he is up to 78 pounds and is 4" 8". It is so amazing. To think 3 years ago he was only about 46 pounds. I am truelly amazed at how resilent childrens bodies are. We found out that for an unknown time that we will be going every 2 months for check-ups and every 4 months we need to do a 24hr. urine collection but no other tests/scans unless a test(CBC or urine) comes back wacky.

Matt had a makeup game Wed night and they ended up losing 2 to 0. Matt(the Cowboys) did a fantastic job of stopping them from scoring anymore points but we just couldn't score came close, too. Matthew loves football!! Loves to tackle the other players. It was a chilly one but it is such a wonderful sight to see him out there doing something he LOVES!He gives it his all at practice and games.

Gotta go make sure the kids are really sleeping because we have an early day need to be at Matt's game at 7:45am ...yikes!

Saturday, August 26, 2006 11:14 PM CDT

Matthew had his first football game today. He versed the 49ers. The Cowboys(Matt's team) had a very strong defense. They were on the 2 yard line and couldn't move the ball so the had to hand off possession to 49ers and they actually stopped the 49ers from scoring and pushed tham back to the 4 yard line!! It was so awesome!! Matt ended up winnning 6 to 0!! He was so happy to win a game.

After the game Nicole and Matthew went with Nana and Papa to a family picnic down in Kankakee. They had a BLAST!! Loved playing with their cousins.

Kevin & I couldn't go to the picnic because he had a game in the afternoon. They need some more work, they lost 20 to 0.

Matthew and Daddy are going to the Sox game tomorrow. Matt loves the White Sox!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!!!

Thursday, August 17, 2006 3:30 PM CDT

Today is practice #3 for the football for the boys. Games start on Sat the 26th. Matthew is playing on the Cowboys Featherweight this year. Matthew is really enjoying playing again. It is truelly amazing and wonderful to see him playing his favorite sport(he gives it his all!)!!

I have been trying to change the pictures around having problems loading them.

Tuesday, August 15, 2006 0:03 AM CDT

We just got back from a White Sox game that was sponsored by P.O.P.S oncolgy group from Hope. It was an awesome game, the Sox hit 3 HR and won 12 to 2 !!! Matt and Kevin had a BLAST! It was a constant food frenzy for them. Our seats were at top of the upper deck but we still were able to see all the fireworks.

Sunday, August 13, 2006 8:02 PM CDT

We picked Matthew up from camp yesterday morning. He had a BLAST!!! He gave us lots of hugs when he saw us. This was the first year at camp that Matt never called home troughout the week... we kept expecting him to call and just never did--which means he was having FUN! He did many neat things...rode 8 different motorcycles, helicopter ride, canoe race and lots of swimming. Just to name a few major things they did. It is so nice to have him home...we miss him but want him to attend his camp every year! Camp Quality is truely amazing..they let kids be kids and they forget about all the treatments they have endured. I will be bringing his disposable cameras in to get developed tomorrow. I will post some photos when we get them back.

Yesterday afternoon Mike and I had a golf outing so Grandpa Ed watched the kids and he took them a carnival sponsored by P.O.P.S.(Pediatric Oncology Parent Support) from Hope. The kids all had a lot of fun. They rode numerous carnival ride, camel rides and fed some aniamls( Kevin was able to feed a lion!). The boys were able to do a water slide, too. They ate tons of good food. Grandpa and the kids all had a wonderful time.

Today we received a call letting us know that Matt is on the Featherweight Cowboys for Plainfield Junior Cats Football..he moved up a weight class since all the evals have concluded, last year he was on Bantam(6-8 year olds). They start practice this Tuesday night. Kevin is on Middlewieght Saints. Kevin is very happy to have moved to Middleweight he did not want to play in the same league as Matt. The competitive nature of brothers..gotta love it!!

I will post pictures later in the week.

Saturday, August 5, 2006 3:15 PM CDT

We finished football evaluations this morning. Both boys were picked to be on the travelling teams. We declined them and had them stay inhouse for Plainfield Junior Cats(PJC). It is an honor for them to be considered for travel...travel is more intense, they practice extra days and they go to games way up north.

I just finished packing up Matthew for Camp Quality. We will be leaving for Camp tomorrow after church. He looks forward to camp every year, this is his third year attending. Matt is looking forward to meeting his new companion, Paul. Matt keeps wanting a new companion each year..as he says,"he wants to experience it all!--see someone else". His last 2 companions were GREAT with no problems, it's just how Matt is. Camp is a wonderful place, they do many neat things there. Kids can be kids.

If you would like to send Matthew a postcard(they need to be mailed by Tues!!!) SEND TO:
MATTHEW CORSE
MANITOQUA MINISTRIES/CAMP QUALITY
8122 SAUK TRAIL
FRANKFORT, IL 60423

Enjoy the nice day!

Wednesday, August 2, 2006 3:35 PM CDT

Matt is getting excited because he leaves for Camp Quality on Sunday!! This is a week long camp that is offered to any child that has been diagnosed with cancer . Matthew stays in the cabins and has a companion with him at all times. They schedule different activities throughout the week and even have a dance on Friday night. I love to hear all about what he has done for that week there.

Gotta go give the boys a quick bite to eat before footbal conditioning tonight. Conditioning practice has been cancelled the last 2 nights. Bringing lots of water for them(and Nicole & I) tonight!

Monday, July 24, 2006 9:07 AM CDT

I am glad my boys are home..we missed them . They were on a 3 week vacation with Grandpa Ed, they went out to Montana. They had a fabulous time..they loved the Missile Silo, Mount Rushmore and the hiking in Glacier National Park!! We had a clinic appointment for Matt when he got home last week on Tues. We are happy to announce that all his counts are finally in the normal range (low end in normal but normal none the less!!). This August will be three years since his second Stem Cell transplant!! It has been a long road but he is doing so well!!

Matthew is extremely excited because Saturday he picked up his football equipment and begins football conditioning tonight at 6pm!!

Saturday we also went to P.O.P.S Picnic(Organization from Hope). The kids had a fantastic time..eating lots of cotton candy & numerous snow cones. All kids and some adults enjoyed the water gun fight.

Sunday we helped celebrate my best friend's son's FIRST birthday. Alex was surrounded with friends and family that celebrated his BIG day with him.

I'll keep you posted how football conditioning is going.

Wednesday, July 12, 2006 10:23 PM CDT

Sorry haven't updated sooner...and first week of July Mike, Nicole, & myself were vacationing at Nana & Papa's cottage in Michigan. It was a wonderful time..the weather was terrific! Tonight I just got back from my Pampered Chef National Conference and figured I should I should explain why it has been so long between entrees.

I talked to the boys tonight. They are still on an amazing vacation with Grandpa Ed. Today they went to a big waterpark. The boys enjoyed all the waterslides...even the BIG one(can't remember the name).

Tomorrow they are going to begin their journey home. Stopping at Yellowstone and camping there. We can't wait to see all the pictures they have taken.

Wednesday, June 28, 2006 4:50 PM CDT

On Tuesday we had a busy day packing the boys up for their vacation with Grandpa Ed. Matthew had an end of the season Baseball Pizza Party. It was a really nice time! The coaches were GREAT!! Even though they did not win a single game the kids improved so much at the end of the year and they all had fun and made new friends.Matthew is going to miss seeing all of his buddies...when he gets back from his trip we will have to call and set up a playtime with some of his friends.

After the Pizza Party we dropped the kids off at Grandpa Ed's. They will be leaving early tomorrow morning for their journey to Montana to see their Aunt Ellen, Uncle Mark & cousin Bob. It felt a little strange without the boys here this morning. Just talked with them and the are in Des Moines, Iowa. The will be camping in Onawa, Iowa tonight.

Monday, June 26, 2006 7:58 AM CDT

Last Thursday Matthew had their first playoff game...Matt went 1 for 2 at bat. The team learned alot and they really improved from the beginning of the season. They may have lost every game but they ALL seemed to have FUN!!!! Tuesday night we have a team party...Matthew is looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Tonight Kevin has his third Playoff game. They are doing well. I have enjoyed seeing my boys play baseball this year.

Monday, June 19, 2006 10:54 AM CDT

We hope everyone had a good Father's Day!! We did a cookout with my Dad and Mom and my Father-in -law. It was nice having a relaxing afternoon with them! Matthew had a game at 1pm(a rainout make-up) ..it was one of their better ones. Matthew had 3 good hits...a Double, 2 singles and struck out the 4th time up at bat. He also scored a run!!! Unfortunately they ended up losing 4 to 8. Matthew starts playoffs this Thurs. It is single elimination. If they lose a game they are done. Matt is really looking forward to playoffs...maybe the Giants will surprise us and be victorious!!!(FINALLY!)

Kevin starts his playoffs tomorrow.

We would also like to wish Aunt Rita a Happy Birthday!!! Hope to see you soon, we miss you!!

Thursday, June 15, 2006 9:19 PM CDT

Had another day of swim lessons. Matthew has been having a reaction to chlorine everytime he goes swimming...he gets red welty blotches on his chest, back and legs. Within an hour or so after they disappear. Weird, huh!

The kids played at their cousins this afternoon. They had alot of FUN!! They also got to swim some more, they love the water! Thanks so much, Audrey!!

Tonight Matthew had a baseball game. Matthew batted twice: first time he struck out swinging and second time up he hit the ball but it was a pop fly and the third baseman caught it. We only played 4 innings because we were losing 10 to 0. Matthew has another game on Sat and Sun. Then the regular season will be finished and next will be playoffs

We hope everyone has a wonderful Father's Day, being with family!!!

Tuesday, June 13, 2006 10:19 PM CDT

We had a GREAT time at Relay For Life in Tinley Park...Matt's Pit Crew made PLATINUM!!!! We raised over $10,000---that is truelly amazing!!! We are the first team ever to reach this level of fundraising at Tinley Park's Relay...THANK YOU to those who donated to Matt's Pit Crew!!!! I have a fabulous team!!! We had wonderful weather that weekend (June 3 & 4).

The kids have begun swim lessons on Monday. They seem to be enjoying them. Finish lessons up next Thurs.

Kevin has finished up the regular season for baseball. Monday, June 19th starts playoffs! Matthew still has 2 regular season games left this week..praying that he(The Giants) will be able to win one of those games. This past Sunday was awful...they lost 17 to 0! I feel so bad for all the kids...they try so hard, they had a hard time stopping the ball---grounders got by a few of the boys.

Matthew's practice was cancelled tonight so we took the Metra to downtown Chicago. It was the first time the kids have ever been on a train. We went to the Skydeck at the Sear's Tower...that was cool! After we went to Navy Pier. Went on the 3-D ride(it was OK--not as good as Disney or Universal rides). Kids thought it was AWESOME! Took a ride on the Ferris Wheel and kids also did the Merry-Go-Round, Climbing Rope Adventure and Mini Golf. It was a beautiful day but we are all exhausted!

Monday, June 5, 2006 11:08 PM CDT

My boys had their last day of school on Friday! Matthew is officially a third grader now and Kevin will be going into fifth grade in the Fall. WOW..has time flown. The kids were not happy because I scheduled physicals after school for Kevin and Nicole. They needed shots shots for 5th and K. Matthew also had to get a Mumps shots because he is not immune to that(found that out from a blood test).

What a gorgeous weekend!! We couldn't have asked for any better weather on Saturday. We were in Tinley Park at Relay For Life. Matthew was very peppy this year he was running ahead of us during the survivor lap unlike last year were he had a fever throughout the day & night(he made us very worried!!!) Matt's Pit Crew did an amazing job raising funds for The American Cancer Society...we were the top fundraising team in Tinley Park!!! I am still trying to recover from not sleeping on Sat. In the next couple of days I will post some pictures from Relay.

Today my kids had a BLAST because we went to the pool in our subdivision! I also signed them all up for swim lessons starting next week.

Please take a moment to sign our guestbook. Thanks!!!

We had a busy weekend with baseball games. Matt's team, the Giants, still have yet to win a game. At Sunday's game...Matthew only batted once and that time up to bat he had a HUGE hit out into right field he made it to THIRD!!!! Unfortunately the next 2 batters stuck out so Matthew never got to home base. Even though he didn't score a run I feel that hit just pumps them up. They lost 8 to 1. Matthew may not be on a winning team. Most boys are first timmers..they are improving and are having FUN!!!

Matthew was excited to go to school today because he has FIELD DAYS. Outdoor activities!! I am glad they have a wonderful day for it.

I have also been busy getting ready for Relay For Life in Tinley Park on June 3rd- June 4th. If you are not aware I am the team captain for Matt's Pit Crew. If you would like to donate to The American Cancer Society.
Please make a check out to: ACS short for AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY and mail that to:
Liz Corse
5278 Eaglewood Court
Plainfield, IL 60586

I will then put your donation under Matt's Pit Crew! Our goal this year is $8,000.

Every donation is helping us to find a cure for cancer. Most of us know at least 1 person affected by this terrible disease.

If you are able to come out to Relay on June 3rd at Tinley Park High School...PLEASE JOIN THE FUN!! We are on the SOUTH end of the track by the scoreboard.

Enjoy the beautiful sunny day!!!

Tuesday, May 16, 2006 8:18 PM CDT

On Monday Matthew had a clinic appointment at Hope. We had to do a 24 hour urine collection(on Mother's Day)...do not have the results of that test yet. The blood test came back fine. His counts are at the very, very low end of normal, for the majority of the counts. It has taken over 2 and a half years for his blood counts to be in and stay at this range for the last few check-ups.

Cancer really takes a huge toll on your body!!!

Tonight Matthew had a baseball game. It is sad to say that the Giants lost yet another game. 9 to 0. I really hope that by June they will have at least won one game!!! The kids seem to be getting better. The majority of the team has never been on any organized baseball team. Matthew batted twice and struck out swinging both times...he connected three times the second time at bat just couldn't get it to go straight.

Report back again in a few days. Hope the rain will stop!!

Saturday, May 13, 2006 8:22 PM CDT

Today was a BIG day for Matthew... he made his First Holy Communion!!! He looked so handsome in his suit. At one point 3 years ago we were not sure if he would be doing this. WOW has he come along way. We are finally feeling like a normal family again. Matthew is playing sports and is an extremely active boy. Children are so resilent and precious! They fill our life with so much joy. Treasure the time you have with them.

I wish all the moms reading this a very Happy Mother's Day!! I will doing the Y-Me walk downtown with my mom and some girlfriends. This will be my third year doing the walk. This has become my mom's and my special way to be with each other. It is a fun day walking and talking with my mom!! (Fingers are crossed that it won't be raining heavily on us)

Matthew has a routine clinic appointment on Monday we will post how things went.

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 3:20 PM CDT

Sorry for not updating sooner things have been busy around here. I just finished holding a Kids Strike out Cancer "Matt's Pit Crew" Relay For Life Event. We had 27 bowlers. They all had a fantastic time ...we raised about $500 for the American Cancer Society!! Our Relay is at Tinley Park H.S. on June 3rd. It is just around the corner.

Matthew's baseball team has finally scored some runs unfortunately not enough to win :( Hope the Giants will be able to at least win one game this season!!

Tonight Matthew has First Communion Pictues. He makes his First Communion this Saturday at Holy Family Parish in Shorewood. He is anxious...second big event for him... First was Baptism(which he doesn't remember because he was 4 weeks old) and now he gets to join most of the Parish when he receives the body & blood of Christ. He can't wait!! If you would like please send Matt a congratulation/communion card to:
MATT CORSE
5278 EAGLEWOOD COURT
PLAINFIELD, IL 60586

Matthew is feeling well. He is very energetic and sometimes out of control with laughter. It is still amazing when I think of all that he has been through. Lucky for us he does not remember that much of his treatment...it was a long 11 months!!! He goes for a check up on the 15th(Mon after Mother's Day).

Have a wonderful day...thank you to those of you that sign our guestbook!

Saturday, April 29, 2006 8:48 PM CDT

We have been busy lately with either baseball practice or games. Matt has played 2 games so far and they lost both...but at least their last game they scored a run!!! Matt has pitched at least 1 inning each game.

Today Kevin had a game..it was a cold and rainy one. Kevin got walked twice and struck out once. He did score twice!!! Their team(the Orioles) won 15 to 12!!

Tonight Matt was scheduled to have a game but it was cancelled because of the weather. What a relief because even with an umbrella at Kevin's game we still got quite wet.

Tomorrow Matt has baseball pictures. When we get those back we will post our baseball star!!

We are also getting ready for a Relay For Life "Matt's Pit Crew" Kids Strike Out Cancer Bowl-A-Thon. It is Sunday, May 7th at Channahon Lanes at 1pm. If you would like to sign up some kids(Ages 4 -14) or need more info call Liz at 815-436-9979. We are trying to raise as much money for the American Cancer Society!!!

Wednesday, April 19, 2006 10:04 PM CDT

Matthew had a GREAT birthday. He is enjoying playing with all his new toys and absolutely loves the Tony Hawk clothes!!

We hope everyone had a good Easter. Ours was nice my parents and father-in law came out to our house. We wish the weather was nicer--kids had to be couped up inside(easier keeping track of them though).

This morning Matt had 3 baby teeth pulled and was able to go to school by 11... the teeth were crowding in on some of his adult teeth. He is looking forward to the Tooth Fairies visit tonight.

Please take a moment to sign our guestbook . We really like to see who stops by. THANKS!!!!!

Saturday, April 8, 2006 9:05 PM CDT

If you have been following Matt...he had his first sleepover by himself at Aunt Rita and Uncle Randy's over Spring Break and he REALLY REALLY enjoyed it. Unfortunately they were not able to go outside because the weather was not good for Alex(Rita's little guy). They did lots of creative and artsy things indoors. The bottom line he liked being there!!! Thanks so much much, Rita & Randy for having the boys over.

Last week Matt had a blood draw done to determine what his immunities were. He is immune to everything except mumps. So we just need to contact his pediatrician to get a mumps shot. That is such a relief!! Matthew is doing so well...he is extremely active and sometimes exhausting to watch. WOW what a huge difference from 3 years ago(very lethargic while going through treatment). He is also a whopping 70 pounds!!! We have come along way but never can forget what he has been through.

He is enjoying baseball..tomorrow(Sun) he has a practice game. When he gets home from it we are having a family birthday party for Matt and my Dad. Matt's birthday is on Monday...HE TURNS 8!!!!! My Dad's Birthday is on Tues.

Visit Matt later this week because I am going to post pictures from his birthday. Bye for now.

Monday, March 27, 2006 9:43 PM CST

This week is Spring Break for the kids. Kevin had a sleepover at Aunt Rita and Uncle Randy's last night. Kevin went downtown to Chicago to the Sear's Tower--he saw all he way to Wisc to Indiana. He thought it was AWESOME!!!

Tonight is Matt's first time spending the night with Aunt Rita and Uncle Randy. We are hoping he behaves and is helpful like Kevin was. Unfortunatley the weather wasn't as nice as Sunday(another rainy day). Curious to find out what they did together.

Tuesday, March 14, 2006 7:10 PM CST

We had a long day at the hospital today! We got to Hope at 9am for an echo test of Matt's heart(Ultrasound image & sound) and an EKG with 12 leads stuck to him. Then we went for a blood draw for his counts. His Oncologist said he looks good and his counts are fine. His white blood cell is 5.0(still a little low because normal is 6.0-17.0); hemoglobin is GREAT at 14.1--normal range 11.5-13.5; his platelets are 141--normal range is 140-450. His counts have been staying pretty similar from the last few visits. WE had a 1pm appointment for an audiogram(hearing test) not enough time to go out to eat after our clinic appointment, so we just ate at the Kids Cafe at HOPE. Preliminary results for the different tests didn't seem to show much change from previuos tests done. In a week we will hear from the doc about the tests. We knew going into his hearing test that he has hearing loss in both ears(worse in his right ear)from all the chemo he had..it shouldn't get worse but won't get better either.
We were happy to be home around 3pm. Good news we do not need to go back until May!!!

Sunday, March 12, 2006 3:38 PM CST

Baseball season has begun for the Corse boys and Mom's taxi service. Kevin had batting cage practice yesterday . Kevin is on the Orioles-Mustang league. Matthew is on the Pinto League--Giants. Matthew had practice outside today. It was a little chilly towards the end of practice. It didn't bother the kids but the parents weren't all dressed for it because part way through practice the sun stayed behind clouds and became very windy. When Matt got in the truck he said he had fun today and liked pitching!!

Tuesday Matthew has his 2 month clinic appointment and also has an EKG and hearing tests.

We will let you know how his blood counts are after Tuesday's appointment.

Saturday, March 4, 2006 2:33 PM CST

Matthew was excited today because they he had his basketball awards ceremony at Plainfield Central High School. He really likes the trophy he got. Afterwards we went to a pizza party for his team. Matthew enjoyed his first year playing basketball. They only won two games but he had lots of FUN!! The weather is nice so Matt is outside playing with the neighbors.

Kevin also had his award ceremony today but Mom & Matt missed it because of the pizza party...hope Mike took some pictures!!

Have a GREAT weekend!!

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 3:32 PM CST

It is hard to believe that it is March already! Matthew and Nicole are outside playing...today is beautiful!!!! Matthew has been felling well, with a slight little cough. Last week he went on a field trip to Brookfield Zoo, he enjoyed seeing lots of animals. This past Sat we signed both boys up for football.

Last night we got calls from both boys baseball coaches. Practice will be starting in a week or so.

"I LOVE SPORTS!!!!!" Matt enthusiastically just said.

We also would like to thank everyone who came to Matt's Pit Crew first Candlelight Bowl in Channahon. It was a FUN time and we raised lots of money that benefitted the American Cancer Society. I am looking forward to Relay this year , June 3rd and 4th. We are ALL hoping for nicer weather than last year(it rained majority of the day).

Wednesday, February 15, 2006 5:53 PM CST

We hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day. The kids were wound up when they got home from school...lots of tasty treats must have been eaten.

Matthew is feeling much better!!!! No more sore throat...he is back to his normal self again.

Mom is enjoying this past week without having to take the boys to their practices and games. This Sat is sign-ups for Football. Matthew can't wait to play again!!!

Have a good week...Please take a moment to sign our guestbook. THANKS!

Wednesday, February 8, 2006 1:15 PM CST

Sorry about the length between entries..have had lots of computer/internet problems.

Matthew had his last basketball game this past Saturday. It was a very low scoring game. Matthew had a couple rebounds and attempted shots. He played the entire game. In the end the were victorious 6 to 3!!! So glad they ended on a good note. Kevin also played his last game. They all played extremely hard!! It was constantly back and forth. We were down by 7 at the end of the 1st quarter. Tied it up by the end of the 3rd. But couldn't stop the other team from scoring in the fourth. Ended up losing by 5 :( Both boys had wonderful coaches!!! They really enjoyed their first time playing on a basketball team.

Saturday afternoon Matthew was complaining of a sore throat and was VERY tired and pale. He was asleep by 7PM.

During the Super Bowl Matt was not his active self, he was content just sitting and watching everyone. He was still complaining of his throat hurting and loss of appetite.

Monday morning Matt's throat still wasn't better so we called his pediatrician. Late morning we were at the doctors, they did a strep test...it came back neg. She said Matthew's swollen lymph nodes are from nasal drip. She gave us a prescription for cold/cough medicine. The doctor said there was no reason to keep him home from school.

Matthew still has no appetite and really hates taking the medicine. With his reactions to the medicine and spitting his saliva brings back many hospital memories. I hope this medicine starts to work..he has already lost 4 pounds!!

We have also had concerns from he various teachers because he is so withdrawn and not his smiley happy self. Hope soon we will see Matthew smiling again.

Tuesday, January 24, 2006 7:56 AM CST

The boys want to thank Nana, Papa and Grandpa for coming to watch their basketball games. Unfortunately neither team was able to pull out a win. Matt's team has yet to win a game:( For Kevin's team this was their first loss.
Basketball season is coming to an end fast ... only two more practices each and two games left. Their last game is Feb 4th.

We are also very happy Mike made it home from his snowmobile trip in one piece. 5 days away...we missed him. It was Mike's first time doing something like this. He had a lot of fun and is looking forward to doing it again next year.

Also we are very proud of our boys report cards. Matt got lots of +'s(acceptable) and Excellent and good marks, they don't give letter grades yet. Kevin had 5 A's!!! They are both doing really well in school, hope they can continue this trend for many years to come.

GO PITT!!!! Gotta root for them since the Bears couldn't do it.

Wednesday, January 18, 2006 5:58 PM CST

Hi!! Just want to let you know that Matthew's checkup went very good yesterday. His counts are really good...WBC was 7.0 , Hemoglobin was 15.3 and his platelets are 145!!! This is such a relief that his counts are finally in the normal range!!! As every month passes it increasess Matthews odds of not relapsing. We do not need to go back to clinic until the middle of March. The only tests we need to have done before next visit is a hearing test and an EKG. Things(medically speaking) are going smooth... not spending much time at Hope. Matthew misses seeing the nurses on the fourth floor.

Gotta go get the kids ready for Kevin's basketball practice.

Monday, January 16, 2006 9:15 PM CST

We had a busy Saturday with the boys basketball games. Matt team lost another one 22 to 14. Matt had a few rebounds and mainly was the person taking the ball out. He also played all 4 periods!! He is very quick out there. He is really enjoying basketball, I just hope that they'll be able to win at least one game this season.

Kevin did really well. He got a few rebounds and shot a few times but nothing went in but he was trying!! Kevin was glad to see Uncle Rob, Aunt Kara , Mallory and Nana cheering him on. The tarheels won 22 to 11!! They are undefeated.

Matthew and Kevin have three games left. Season is going by quick.

Tomorrow(Tues.) Matthew has a routine appointment to check his CBC's. We'll let you know how his counts are.

Monday, January 9, 2006 11:56 AM CST

Matt had a basketball game on Saturday..unfortunately they lost 18 to 10. The team seemed a little rusty, first time on the court since mid-December..Tuesday's practiced was cancelled. Kevin also had a game and theirs was neck and neck..back and forth. At times it seemed like someone had buttered the ball. But in the end the Tarheels(Kevins team) was victorious..10 to 6.

Sunday I threw a surprise party for Mike...he turned 40 on Dec 26th. It was a GREAT time..he was surprised!!!!

Just before Christmas my Dad had informed us that that he has relapsed again, he first began chemo Sept 2002 for CLL(Chronic Lymphocitic Leuchemia) 2 months before Matt was diagnosed. My Dad needs to begin Chemo this Tues. I am worried and am praying he reacts well to this round of chemo. Please say an extra prayer for him.

Also PLEASE take a moment to sign the guestbook...we really love to see who visits us. THANKS!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Just like everyone we had busy holidays. The kids really enjoyed their time off from school. Besides the normal holiday parties and get togethers the boys also had a birthday party and 2 sleepovers. I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a rough morning getting the boys up early and ready for school.

It is wonderful seeing Matt being a "normal" 7 year old!!! Having sleepovers and so full of energy.

Tuesday basketball practice starts again for Matthew, it was nice having a break from running the boys to practice and games. Kevin plays his games at Ira Jones and Matthew is at Lakewood Falls. If you'd like to see them play let us know and we can give you directions to the schools!
THEIR SCHEDULE IS:
JAN 7TH MATT 10 AM KEVIN 1PM
JAN 14TH MATT 9AM KEVIN 11AM
JAN 21ST MATT 9AM KEVIN 10AM

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

Last night after church we headed over to Grandpa's for a steak dinner. It was a nice visit with Grandpa. We missed seeing the rest of the family but couldn't fit it all in tomorrow. Nicole wasn't feeling that good she took a nap on the way to Midlo. Once the medicine kicked in she was feeling a little better. WE are hoping with lots of rest she'll be better tomorrow!!

I am still amazed at what Santa considers naughty and nice...I was really thinking that at least one of my kids was going to be getting coal. The kids had a BLAST opening lots of presents from the BIG guy. Right now I have a free moment because Nicole is sitting on the couch watching MADAGASCAR DVD. Matthew is finding hidden pictures and Kevin is downstairs on PS2 playing FREEKSTYLE!! It was a little hectic with them all opening gifts at once. Rocky was very cute...he was opening his own gifts and yes eating the paper as he was doing it. Rocky is tuckered out now from all the chewing on rawhides and ropes.

Later today when Mike gets up from his nap(he had to work at midnight last night)we will be heading over to Nana and Papa's, my brother and his family will also be coming there.

WE really want to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Hope you have good times with your family and friends!! Remember to cherish all the times you have together. Life is too short to be angry at someone let the past be in the past.

Thanks for checking up on Matt and all of us.

Today Matthew had a basketball game...he played 2 quarters. Unfortunately they lost 20 to 8. He really is enjoying basketball!!! I really enjoy watching him play...he is truelly amazing to see him with so much energy!!! We are so lucky that he is doing so well and I believe trying to let him be as "normal" as any other 7 year old is helping him get better. He LOVES playing sports!!! Tomorrow is going to be another busy day because we have my family X-Mas party. WE hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. Our kids are really looking forward to Santa coming!

Sunday, December 11, 2005 12:57 AM CST

Matthew was disappointed because he was not able to play in his basketball game today . Matthew had an exciting day because he made his first reconciliation, most of us remember it referred to as confession. Immediately after we headed to our clubhouse for the Corse's X-Mas party. It was wonderful seeing everyone. Wish we could see them more than once a year. Maybe we will have to try to do a picnic/playground get together this summer.

Matthew was disappointed today because he was not able to play at his basketball game because of the X-mas party. Hopefully the Green All-stara can win another game. So far their record is 1 win, 1 tie and 1 loss.

This evening the kids and Rocky really enjoyed playing outside in the snow. It was extremely difficult getting the boys to come in...they were out there for 2 and a half hours!! Much too long for Nicole and I. We hope everyone is enjoying the snow!!

Enjoy spending time with your family and friends this holiday season..Treasure the time spent together.

Sunday, November 27, 2005 11:05 AM CST

We hope everyone had a enjoyable Thanksgiving with their family and friends. I took the kids by Nana and Papa's yesterday,Mike had to work:( We had a delicious dinner and then played UNO Stacko...the kids really liked playing that game!!

Tonight Matthew had a reunion dinner from Camp Quality in Lynwood. Once again I took the kids since Mike has a midnight shift tonight. We sat with Mike his companion from Camp in August. After dinner the DJ had everyone out on the dance floor!! Matthew got side tracked part way into dancing when he saw his friend Lucas and then he was content palling around with Lucas. It was great seeing so many familar faces.

Tomorrow morning when Mike gets home from work we will be leaving for my parents cottage in Michigan. I am hoping we don't get as much snow as they are predicting!!!!(I will be driving and Mike will be getting a couple hours of sleep).

I will let you know how the weather was up in Michigan and hope to have some photos from
X-Mas tree picking. Gotta go!!

Monday, November 21, 2005 8:05 PM CST

Matthew had a basketball pictures and a game this Saturday and he scored 2 baskets and had some good rebounds. It is wonderful to see him running around like any regular 7 year old. It was a very close game..it ended tied 14 all. Grandpa Ed came out and enjoyed seeing Matthew and Kevin play basketball. Kevin's game also ended in a 13-13 tie. Hey, at least neither one lost!!

It is also so hard to believe that 3 years ago today Matthew was having surgery to put in a double Broviac chest tube and also was getting a biopsy of his tumors to find out if they were cancerous or not. I also want to thank those that were with us throughout these first few days in the hospital. Tomorrow, the 22nd was D-Day(Diagnosis). It was the worst day any parent could ever imagine being told that your little child has CANCER!! It was so hard for Mike & I to comprehend everything that we were being told about treatment. Our world just seemed to be crashing down on us. Then to top off how we were going to let everyone know the horrific news about Matthew. We were trying to compose our selves then we had a phone call from Tim(Mike's brother) to tell us that their Mom just passed away. It is a day that we wish never happened. Many, many tears were shed during the previous days and days that followed.

I am so thankful for all our family and friends that were there for us..it was truelly appreciated . Without all of your support and prayers it would have been much harder to endure.

PLEASE sign the guestbook so that we know you have visited us. THANKS!!

Wednesday, November 16, 2005 5:59 PM CST

Matthew had a routine clinic appointment yesterday. We also got the test results from his 24hr. urine from last week. All tests came back good..WBC are 5.0;Hemoglobon 13.5; Platelets are 140!! Urine is fine too. Now we all can breathe a huge sigh of relief!! I know it is only a routine check-up but I get so nervous because the blood shows any problems. Matthew also was able to get the flu shot. We also need to contact his pediatrician to START his immunizations(like a newborn)because when he had his two stem cell transplants that wiped out his whole immune system.

He looks wonderful and is so energetic like any other 7 year old. I would be lost without him.

Gotta run ...off to Kevin's basketball practice.
I'll do another journal entree in a couple days.

Saturday, November 12, 2005 10:32 PM CST

Today Matthew had an end of the year football party. He had a nice time. Matt had to leave early to go to his first basketball game. Matthew scored the first basket of the game but they ended up losing 24 to 14. Next Saturday we will try to get a picture of Matt before the game...we tried taking some today but they were too distant.

Kevin had his first basketball game also. He played half the game. They won 18 to 14!! Both boys have Saturday games from now until Feb 4th.

Saturday, October 29, 2005 5:03 PM CDT

Today marks the end of Matthew's football season. The Buccaneers ended with a perfect record...0 in 8. It is depressing that they weren't able to win one game,we had some close ones too. All the boys had a lot of fun learning how to play. All but 2 kids this was their first year playing. Today Matthew did some good tackles. He played offense and defense and was also on the kick off team. On the way home he is already talking about playing football next year.

Now that football is over we should have a little more free time but NOT in the Corse household. The boys start basketball practice on Wed. It will be interesting because both boys have practice at 7pm but opposite sides of Plainfield. And to top it off Mike works Wed night. Still trying to figure out how I am going to do this.

Well I better get back outside to check on the kids. It is a gorgeous day today!! HOPE EVERYONE HAS A VERY HAPPY HALLOWEEEN!!!!!! I'll post pictures of the kids in costume on Tues.

CONGRATS TO THE WHITE SOX ON WINNING THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!

Monday, October 17, 2005 5:23 PM CDT

Matthew had another football game this past Saturday morning. They are looking better and better. The score was 12 to 13...we lost by ONE POINT!!! Matthew was a little disappointed that they lost again but he always says he had FUN!!

Tonight Matthew has practice (from 6 - 8pm)under lights at the football field. Gotta run because I need to pick up Matthew and Kevin from Religious Education and then it is off to football practice.

GO WHITE SOX!!!!!! WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE IN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!

Monday, October 3, 2005 10:07 PM CDT

Tonight both boys had a football game. Matthew did pretty good. He played all quarters on the offensive line. We were excited that they scored 2 touchdowns but unfortunately the other team scored immediately after each one of ours. Then the last minute of play the other team scored a third touchdown...so Matt's team(the Buccaneers)lost again :( Matt gave it a 100ven though they lost Matthew is still having a good time playing football.

Kevin played offensive line. He needs to work on blocking a little better next time. Kevin's team also lost their game 19 to 6 :( Hope they can win their next games!!!! Kevin's next game is Sat, Oct 8th at noon and Matthew's game is on Monday,Oct 10th at 6pm.

Matthew is doing well in school...he has a good attitude. When it comes time to do any kind of schoolwork he doesn't fight us at all. Hope he stays positive!!

All of us our enjoying our new little puppy!! Rocky is so cute and fiesty...WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! He is 9 weeks old and is almost 14 lbs.

Friday, September 23, 2005 5:18 PM CDT

As most of you know we had to put our beloved dog, Comet, to sleep on August 4. This was extremely hard on us. Lately our house and family have been feeling very empty...like we are not complete. We are really, really happy to tell you that we have a very lovable and cuddly Siberian Husky pup. Mike and I surprised all the kids on Thurs!! Kevin is so HAPPY to have another pup!!Matthew is really enjoying this new little guy. He likes taking him for short walks or just sitting and holding him. Nicole is pretty gentle...sometimes she makes us nervous because she tries to carry Rocky while walkng. Within a month or so Rocky will hopeful be too big and quick to let Nicole hold/carry him. I put in a picture of our new little guy...ROCKY ONLY 8 WEEKS OLD!!!! Have a GREAT weekend!!!

Tuesday, September 20, 2005 5:05 PM CDT

Today Matthew had a scheduled appointment at Hope Children's Hospital. VERY LONG waits there!! Dr. Hayani says he looks good!! His platelets and White blood cell counts are still low, 105 and 4.1 respectfully. Normal range for platelets is 150-450 and white blood cells is 5.5 - 15.5. His hemoglobin is 13.1 which is in the normal range. This is why he is so energetic!!!

We kept him home from school today because he did not get home from clinic until 1p.m. Around 3 Matt was playing outside and came in screaming uncontrollably. He calmed down enough to let us know that he was stung by a bee in the his arm. We put ice on it and gave him some Benadryl. He is feeling much better now.

If you have a couple extra minutes PLEASE sign our guestbook. Matthew really likes to see who checks on him.

Matthew had a football game on Saturday morning. We are very hapy to tell you that the Buccaneers scored their first touchdown. Unfortunately they could not stop the Saints from scoring...they lost 18 to 6. Matthew is loving football!! He got to play offense the first half and defense the second half. He enjoys tackling kids. Tomorrow(Tues) he has a routine clinic appointment, Dad will be taking him there because I have my Tues morning ladies bowling. Have a good day and we will let you know how Matt's doctor visit goes.

Matthew had his second game tonight. He did a FANTASTIC job!!!! The first half he played offense and the second half he played BOTH offense and defense. Matthew had 1 and a half sacks, 1 forced fumble(where he made the guy fumble the ball) and 1 INTERCEPTION!!!! He truelly loves playing football, he gives it all he has out there . Matthew has never complained during practice or at the game. Unfortunately the Buccaneers were defeated by the Vickings 15 to 0. But the Buccaneers held the other team from scoring the second half!! Next game I hope to remember my camera so you can see our football star!

Tomorrow we will be watching football all day since we have the football package...GO BEARS!!!

We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather over Labor Day weekend. The kids and I left for Michigan on Friday within 15 minutes after the boys got home from school. Traffic was a little yucky but we all have been looking forward to seeing everyone up there it was worth it. The kids did a lot of swimming and playing at the beach...the water was much cooler than in July( I only went in a couple of times). Uncle Gary and Ed (friend/neighbor)took turns giving the kids speed boat rides and taking them tubing. BIG thanks to both of you!! It was a very relaxing time, much needed for all of us. Sad to say we won't be going up there until our traditional after Thanksgiving get together with Gary and Mom and Dad.

Just wanted to share some very special news ...Matthew's friend,Elliott, from Hope has official ended chemo for his Leukemia!!! The Doctors have said he is in remission!!!! If you would like to visit and see Elliott his website is www.caringbridge.org/il/elliott .

Matthew is enjoying second grade and has yet to complain about having to do homework. We have been really busy with football practices, between Kevin and Matt it takes up 4 night of the week(Tues - Fri). and then they have games on Sat or Mondays. I may complain about constantly running them here and there but they are having fun playing. If you would like to know when the next 7 games are, just let me know when you sign the guestbook.

Wednesday Matthew and Kevin had their first day of school. Matthew was excited to go back. He also was happy to know that he had Mrs. Nawrot. She was his first grade teacher but has a name cahnge because she got married this past June. He is liking school so far, but hasn't gotten any homework yet...most likely this week he should be getting some. Then we'll see if he still likes school.

Saturday was an extremely busy day. Kevin had to be at the football field at 11:15am for his game. The Giants beat the Buccaneers 6 to 0...it was a close game but we pulled out the win!! After the game we went to the Weseloh family picnic. Nana and Papa had Nicole and Matt there. We left the picnic at 3:30pm to attend Mike's cousin's wedding reception. Papa was helpful because he took Matthew to his first football game at 5pm. We were informed that Matthew gave 110%, he would hit the guy he was told to but once the opponent was on the ground Matt would go looking for someone else to tackle. I wish we could have seen him play(at least he still has 7 games left). Unfortunately they lost 20 to 0 :-( Mike and I were home by 11pm because Mike had to go to work at midnight.

Check out the new pictures in the photo album. I would also like to thank those that have signed the guestbook..it's always exciting to see who visits us.

Monday night the boys missed football practice because we went to the White Sox vs Minnesota Twins game. The game was set up by P.O.P.S(Pediatric Oncology Parent Support)from Hope Hospital. We had a wonderful time unfortunately the Sox lost. Matthew was happy because he got to see and talk with some kids from camp at the game. They had an awesome turn out...about 15 rows of patients and families attending.

Wed night Matthew had his first practice with the Buccaneers. He missed all the practice last week(he was at camp) and he missed Monday's practice because of the Sox game. Matthew said he had fun. Sadly he probably will not be able to play at his first game because he needs to attend 6 practices before being allowed to play :( The team only has scheduled 3 more practices before the first game.

Monday, August 15, 2005 8:09 AM CDT

We picked Matthew up from Camp Quality on Saturday morning. He had a huge smile when he saw us and came up running for a hug...it was priceless!! Matthew had a wonderful time. Matthew was excited to show us the green wristband he got after doing a swim test and that meant he was able to go off the diving boards this year.Matthew got to ride in a Prowler when they went out for icecream, the driver gave Matt a replica of it. Matthew also enjoyed his helicopter and Harley ride(from Blue Knights in Indiana). Matthew was tearing up the dance floor on their Valentine and Halloween dances. As soon as I get photos forwarded to me from Mike, Matthew's companion, I will post them. We really missed having our little chewy around...glad he had an amazing time at camp. Matthew is already talking about going next year.

Hi !! Matthew left for Camp Quality on Sunday. The house seems so empty without him here. Nicole keeps asking where Matthew is, I think she misses hugging and picking on him. Matt should be enjoying himself because he has nice warm weather this year unlike the cool weather last year. Things that they have planned are a fishing trip, rides on Harleys or Hum v's, trip to the Thunderbolts game in Crestwood , dress-up dance and LOTS of swimming during the days!!! They keep the kids and their companions really busy. I cannot wait to see him on Saturday to hear all about his week at camp. I feel Matthew has been so priviledged to be able to attend such a special camp. This is a real treat for all the children that attend because it is a week that they can forget about the treatments that they are still doing or have done. I am counting my blessing that Matthew has been doing so well, it is 2 years since his second stem cell transplant. Please keep us in your prayers that Matthew remains "No Cancer Detected." Check back on Sunday for camp updates.

Thursday, August 4, 2005 11:25 AM CDT

It is a very sad day here in Plainfield. Mike just got home from putting our dog to sleep. Comet hasn't been feeling too peppy lately. We took him to the vet over a week ago because he was coughing(dry heeving),not eating and had shallow breathing. The vet did a blood testand chest xrays. With the xray it was either a fungal infection or lung cancer. The vet gave us antibiotic to see if it would help. At that point Comet already lost 10 pounds, he was down to 46 pounds. We thought the medicine would help because Comet ate hotdogs & pizza one day but since then he hasn't wanted anything to eat and he was just laying around most of the day. Mike found out from the vet that Comet had cancer.WE are all missing Comet very much. I think Matthew is the strongest because he says "Grandma Pat has him to play with now and don't think about the past think about now." It is very hard for Nicole she wants to hug and kiss Comet now and she keeps saying "When is Comet coming back?" Many tears are shed for our loving pup...we had 10 wonderful years with him. We love and miss him soooo much!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, August 2, 2005 9:55 PM CDT

Tonight Matthew is so excited. At football practice he received a "Hit Me" sticker. This means you are able to run FAST and hit the "dummies" and other kids. Matthew had fun with his first full contact practice. He made some good tackles, he just needs to remember to tackle lower.

Tomorrow we are going to his pediatrician to get his stitches removed.

Sunday Matthew leaves for Camp Quality in Frankfort. It is a week long camp. The week he is there it is strictly for any cancer kids. He went last year and loved it, he is looking forward to it again this year.

Please take a few minutes to let us know that you visited us. Matthew likes to know who stops by. THANKS!!

Hi Everyone!! Wanted to update sooner but having computer problems. The boys have been enjoying football practice. Unfortunately Friday night Matthew missed practice because at 4:30pm he decided to use an aluminum bat incorrectly. Matthew took an aluminum bat and hit down on an empty capped 2 L bottle. Well anyone that knows physics...The bat rickochetted back and ended up hitting him in the forehead above his right eye. Like all head wounds lots of blood and a trip to the E.R. Matthew got 6 stitches. Lets hope he learned his leason, to only use a bat to hit baseballs!!! Matthew is doing fine, he's out playing with all the kids this weekend. The hardest part will be trying to keep the stitches dry when we go to Splash Station Waterpark tomorrow to celebrate his birthday(and brother, Kevin) with their friends...we are going to cut one of his tegaderms that we used to use to cover his broviac on his chest. It really hurts coming off but Matt will just need to deal with it for his misuse of a bat. Check out the photo album, to see Matthew with blue stitches.

Monday, July 25, 2005 9:44 PM CDT

We just got back from Michigan. It was very hot up there. We spent most of our time swimming in the lake. Sunday after church I took the kids blueberry picking. They all did a fabulous job..together we picked over 21 pounds in an hours time (Matthew picked about 6 pounds, Nicole 3 pounds and Kevin 3.5 pounds). Looking forward to them helping me again next year!!

Tonight Matthew had his first football practice. It was conditioning practice. It was hot out there. Dad checked on him at water breaks and he was doing fine and had a HUGE smile on his face. Practice ended half hour early because of lightning..all parents were glad since it was so hot and humid.

Wednesday, July 20, 2005 9:50 PM CDT

Had a busy weekend, sorry so long to update. We had a couple kid birthday parties and also had a surprise retirement party for Ed my father-in-law...he was sooo surprised!!!

Monday morning the kids had swim lessons, they will finish up at the end of this week. They are all doing so good in their classses. On the last day we will be given a skill sheet to let us know what to improve on in order to move up to the next level so I know what to sign them up for next year. After dinner I picked up the boys football equipment. Yes I did say BOYS!! Matthew is going to play football, words cannot express how joyful he is about playing football. He loved his football shoulder pads and even wore them home to show Dad and a few neighbors. Also on Monday night we met Matthew's companion for Camp Quality ,Mike H. He seems really nice and Matthew likes him too. They should have a great time at camp. Matthew attends camp August 7-13th.

Tuesday, July 19th. Mike and I went to Matthew's oncology appointment. He had blood drawn and got the results from last weeks scans. What a HUGE relief the scans came back negative(no change). Matthew also told the doctor that he picked up his football stuff last night. The doctor said it was O.K. Another relief we were a little afraid to mention it but Matthew is so proud and happy to be playing football he broke the ice. Football is something he has wanted to do since he was 5 and seeing his brother all suited up. We will keep you posted on our new adventure and post pictures when he is practicing or playing.

I gotta go I need to finish laundry and pack clothes I am
leaving for Michigan with the kids after swim lesson tomorrow.

Have a GREAT weekend.Say a pray for my best friend, Rita for a quick delivery with baby #2 it should be any day now.

Have a Quiz for you. Guess how long a giraffe's tongue is. Look at photo page for the answer.

Monday, July 11, 2005 10:08 PM CDT

Sorry for not updating sooner. Hopefully you had a GREAT fourth!! We have been on vacation since July 2nd. We went to Wisconsin over the fourth for a Raczek family reunion. It was so wonderful seeing all my relatives!! The kids really enjoyed themselves playing with their cousins. On Sunday, July 3rd they did an amazing fireworks show on the farm, the kids loved it and had a blast doing sparklers afterwards. We spent alot of time swimming at the hotel pool, basically any free time we had you would find us poolside.

After Wisconsin we went up to my parent's cottage in Michigan. The weather was so beautiful. We swam at the beach and pontooned often. One of the days we went to Binder Zoo. They have an exhibit Wild Africa. It is really neat because you take a tram ride to get there. One part in Africa you purchase waffers and you can actually feed the giraffes from a platform. Along the path they place questions for you to answer and a few physical challenges(Matt and Kevin were in to reading them). They also have a old Jeep staged at base camp where you are able to take pictures at...the kids were all in there and I was getting ready to take a picture when Kevin came out screaming and flayling his arms. He got stung twice on his hand by a wasp. What a trooper after we put ice on Kevin's sting bites we continued on our journey in Africa.

One evening we had a campfire and the kids enjoyed their Smores.

One afternoon Matthew and Kevin were in heaven because they got a waverunner ride from Jim (a neighbor).

We had a very fun and relaxing time away. Today back to the hectic schedule of events. All the kids started swim lessons. After lessons Matthew had to go to Christ for a Cat Scan, it's routine 3 month check. Tomorrow Matt goes to nuclear medicine department at Christ for a radioactive injection for a scan on Thurs. We will have all the test results next Tues the 19th when we go for a regular blood count at clinic.

Have a GREAT week enjoy the nice weather!!!!!!!

Wednesday, June 29, 2005 8:42 AM CDT

Matthew is feeling much better. He is eating nonstop and is energetic again. When Matthew gets any pains or diarrhea it makes us so nervous.

This past Saturday Matthew had his first playoff game. It was soooo HOT out there. Unfortunately they did not do so good they lost 10 to 0 :( It was single elimination so Matthew's season of baseball is over now. Matt really enjoyed playing in Pinto(kid pitch) this year.

Since it has been so hot we have spending as much time as possible at the pool. All the kids are swimming like fish.

We are looking forward to this weekend because we go up to a family reunion in Wisconsin. It has been 2 years since everyone up there has seen Matt. They will be glad to see how good he looks because last time he was still going through treatment and very tired. After Wisc we are going up to my parent's cottage in Mich. I will post pictures when we get back.

Thanks for stopping by. If you get a chance post a quick little hi in the guestbook, it brightens our day to see who was here.

Saturday, June 18, 2005 9:11 PM CDT

This week has been a rough one for our little chewy. He has been fighting the ear infection and diarrhea. He also was eating nothing most days occassional glasses of water or Gatorade. Last night we were nervous because he spiked a 102.2 fever but the doctor said to keep an eye on him and if symptoms did not improve he would be admitted on Sat. About 2 am he was tacky (fever broke!) WHAT A RELIEF!!!

This morning we had Matt's last regular season baseball game. Matthew got to try pitching. He did pretty good. He got to bat twice, first up at bat he struck out swinging and his second one he hit a pop past second base and the boy made an amazing catch. Matthew was very proud of his hit, even though it was caught. Right after Matthew's game we went to Kevin's game. Grandpa Ed came out for the Kev's first playoff game. Grandpa watched the boys after the game because we had Nicole's first Ballet Recital. The boys would not have sat to well for over 2 hours of dance(maybe we'll bring them next year) We are excited to say Matthew has his appetite back today:)

We wish all the dads out their HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!!!!Enjoy being with your family and loved ones.

Tuesday, June 14, 2005 4:03 PM CDT

We recently got back from Columbus,Ohio. We left on Friday and arrived home late on Monday. We had our nieces wedding Sat afternoon. Matthew's favorite parts of the wedding were: Tapping on the glass to make Jon and Chrissy kiss, napping on the table and dancing with mom. It was very nice to see everyone. Chrissy's family came in from Montana. We did alot of swimming basically any free time we had you could find us in the pool. Everyone except us left the hotel on Sunday, we stayed an extra day and went to the Columbus Zoo. The kids really liked the zoo their favorite things were: touching a bearded dragon, baby alligator and a rat snake. Seeing a condor and touching its white furry neck, sea otters, the 2 bears that were fighting one another, the BIG manatees, and the baby elephant. Kevin and Matthew are saying other animals (too many to list). We had a GREAT time in Ohio!! Check out our photo page, sorry they are so large I cannot figure out how to make them smaller.

Today Matthew is sleepy and complaining of right ear pain, coughing some, low grade fever and lots of diarrhea. We called Dr. Salvi and he actually said we could go see our regular pediatician today, Matthew hasn't seen Dr. Reicherts in 2 and a half years. On our way to and from the doctors Matt fell asleep. I don't like when he doesn't feel
good :( Matthew has taken his first antibiotic and is resting on the couch. Unfortunately he will not be going to his baseball game tonight since he doesn't feel peppy and the bathroom is too far away from the field. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Tuesday, June 7, 2005 8:09 PM CDT

Hi Everyone! We have had computer problems so I am sorry about the delay in updating. We have had busy weeks around here between baseball practice and games, at least 4 or 5 days a week are spent at the baseball fields. Within 2 weeks baseball for the boys will be done, what will I do with all the free time then?

This past weekend the boys missed their games because we went to the Relay For Life in Tinley Park at the High School. This is a very important event for us because we are able to honor Matthew and others that we know and love who have cancer and to remember those who lost the battle. I was so honored to have Matthew, my dad and Bob Ritchie represent our team in the survivor lap after the opening ceremony. I was worried because Matthew wasn't feeling peppy he was VERY warm in the afternoon, Mike and I were debating on calling the doctor or giving him a Tylenol. We opted for the Tylenol we were at Relay because of him and did not want to leave Relay unless his fever didn't go away. Matthew felt better after taking the Tylenol and he actually walked a lap and jumped in the jumpy with his cousin. Within an hour though Matthew was back in a chair all curled up and shivering and a little warm again. At least Matthew was content being in the screen tent sleeping. The really special and VERY emotional part of Relay is the lighting of the luminaria bags. Since Matthew was snoozin Kevin had the honor of lighting Matthew's candle in the bag we purchased for him. This is such a wonderful event!!! All money that the teams donate goes to the American Cancer Society. This year we had 14 team members for Matt's Pit Crew. Unfortunately we had to deal with 3 storms throughout the day. That kind of put a damper on all our enthusiasm and the different theme laps but I had 10 team mates stay ALL night. We did an awesome job fundraising this year, Matt's Pit Crew raised almost $7,500!!!! Thank you so much for donating to such a great organization.

Sunday afternoon Matthew's temp was only 100.1 and has stayed normal since.

Today(Tues) Matthew had a clinic appointment. His platelets are still low. The doctor said he looks good and needs to come back in a month.

Many prayers are sent to Matt and Ann Widman who lost their boy last week, Jake battled Neurobalstoma. You can show your support on their website www.caringbridge.org/il/justforjake

Thanks for visiting us and check out the new pictures. Also PLEASE sign our guestbook. Matthew likes to read what people say and gets a HUGE smile on his face.

Saturday, May 21, 2005 3:22 PM CDT

Hi Everyone!! Matthew had another baseball game this morning. His team, the Angels, is really starting to play together as a team. They had some really good hits against very good pitching by the other team. Matthew was smiley again today because he got to be catcher for an inning. Matthew also hit a single and worked his way around to score a run. Last time up at bat he stuck out. All the kids seem to enjoy playing. The Angels won another game, that is three in a row!!!! Hurray!!

Matthew still has the red spots under and on his skin. Dr. Hayani says not to worry it is just his low platelet count. We do not need to go back to Hope Cancer Clinic until June 7th.

Well I gotta go because all my kids are outside playing on this beautiful spring day. Thanks so much for stopping by to check on Matt.

Saturday, May 14, 2005 4:50 PM CDT

We had a very busy Saturday. Matthew had a baseball game early this morning, had to be at his field by 8:30 am to warm up. The first time Matthew was up to bat he hit the ball past the left fielder and was able to get safely to second base and had a RBI!!!! Matthew played catcher one inning. It was comical, Matthew looked like a statue he remained in the crouched position and was not attempting to move to get any missed catched balls. The Angels won their game 4 to 2!!!! We will be back at the same field at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Straight from Matt's game we went to a Camp Quality Picnic in Lansing. Matthew and Nicole had so much fun there. Matthew was excited and enjoyed playing catch with Matt a companion from last year. We also found out wonderful news that Matt's companion Tim (from last year at camp) him and wife Kristie had their first baby last night aroung 6pm..Olivia. Anxious to see how Tim and Kristie are doing. Everyone seemed to like playing the different games at the picnic. Matthew loves his Bubble Blower and a nerf football that companion Matt gave him. Nicole was happy to pick out a BIG pink bottle of bubbles when she got BINGO. Matthew and Nicole played so hard at the picnic they both took naps on the way home..very quiet ride, trust me I am not complaining at all. Had a few minutes to update because the kids are in the backyard playing with their bubbles. Today turned out to be a beautiful sunny day after a very chilly morning.

Please take a few moments to let us know that you were here. Matthew also enjoys seeing who was here and he makes me reread past comments. Thanks for stopping by!!

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 9:26 PM CDT

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather on Mother's Day. In the morning my mom and I and friends did the Y-Me 3K Breast Cancer Walk in Chicago. This is the second year we've done this. I enjoy it and am so glad it has become a tradition on Mother's Day for mom and I to do this together. In the afternoon Mom had Gary and I back at her house for a get together. I love family time, the kids all play so nice with each other. It was a wonderful day!!!!!

Today at Wesmere, Matthew's class had a mother's day tea party. It was such an honor that they did this for us. Matthew was smiling from ear to ear when he saw me. It was a nice way to spend an hour in the afternoon with my son. I LOVE MY LITTLE CHEWY SOOO MUCH!!!!!!! Matt made a card with him and me on it he also drew hearts, Cubs logo and Sox symbol. The best thing he made was "Why I am Special to him" booklet. The class also put together a "Mom and Me Recipe cookbook",it is so cute because on the left side page the students wrote out their favorite recipe and on the right side page we(moms)wrote out the actual recipe...I will treasure these wonderful things that Matthew made for me. At the conclusion of our tea party the class sang a MOMMY song and yes I did get all tearry eyed because I was not expecting something like that, the lyrics were very touching. I love all my kids very much but this was just really special and rememberable.

Sunday, May 1, 2005 10:57 PM CDT

We had a very busy weekend!!! The boys had lots of baseball games. Saturday before Matthew's baseball game he was extremely excited because he was signed up for football, he will be in the Superlightweight division. Whenever we had to go to a new table at sign ups Matthew was constantly telling everyone that "This is my first year..I can't wait to get out there!!!!" Kevin will be playing for his fourth year and will be in Lightweight Division again. I am very nervous for this huge step we are taking with Matthew. Kevin and Matthew are always playing touch/tackle football in the yards or at the park with their friends(ages6-11). At least doing this he will have a helmet and pads on and will also be playing with similar weight and aged kids. We will definetly keep you posted in his latest tackle of being a "normal" kid.(They do not start practice until end of July, when the weather is nice and HOT!!) At Matthew's baseball game he got to play first base for an inning. Had 2 times up at bat but unfortunately he struck out both times :( The Angels lost 8 to 9.

Today was a very very FUN day!! We had a kids bowl-a-thon out at Channahon which benefitted American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We had 34 enthusiastic bowlers. It was wonderful to see such happy and smiling faces!! I really appreciate all the help that my team members did to make it run smoothly!!!!! Our big Relay Event in Tinley Park is on June 4 & 5th.

The boys really loved all the things you gave them, Veronica and Max. It was so sweet of you to do that!!!! Matthew has the fish container on his headboard.

PLEASE take a few moments to write a little note just so we know who is stopping by to check on Matthew. We really love to see who comes to see this, it is very uplifting to us.

Tuesday, April 26, 2005 10:18 PM CDT

Last night we were the guests at Cold Stone Creamery in Plainfield for Make A Wish night. The kids had a super time. Everyone was so welcoming to us. Matt and Kevin enjoyed climbing and exploring all the compartments on the Plainfield Fire Truck. The highlight for our kids was going behind the counter and making their own icecream creations(and singing and dancing with the workers). Everyone who entered Cold Stone received a ticket for a slice of icecream cake made by a Make A Wish kid this year... it was delicious!!!!!! I really think they raised alot of money between their silent auctions and Make A Wish containers. Make A Wish is truelly a wonderful organization.

This morning had clinic appointment. Matt's counts are still low but staying steady. About a month and a half ago Matt had swollen glands in his throat. The culture from that came back positive for Mono. Matt only missed a few hours of school today. Tonight Matt had his first baseball game. In the first inning Matt caught a ball with his left eye/cheekbone. Matt is a trooper and he was back out playing after sittting out icing his eye for an inning. He'll have a nice shinner tomorrow. It was a COLD night out there!! Unfortunately the Angels lost their first game but now we know what we need to work on for Saturday's game.

Saturday, April 23, 2005 7:55 AM CDT

Matthew was able to go to school all week! Mon & Tues kids were really loving playing outside in the nice weather. Unfortunately the last couple days have been crappy so the kids have been stuck inside. They are extremely hyper today and bouncing off the walls. Matthew's first official game was cancelled today, he was looking forward to playing it:( Tomorrow(Sun) Matt has baseball team pictures at 9:50 a.m. We are reallly hoping we have some sunshine soon! This Tuesday Matthew has doctor appointment I'll update after it.

Sunday, April 17, 2005 9:53 PM CDT

Matt's eyes cleared up and he was able to go to school on Wed. He was glad to go because he wanted to bring in the Twinkies we bought for his birthday treat.

Thursday the kids had a half day because of parent /teacher conferences. Matt is doing really well in school. It was a very positive conference the only negative comment is that "Matt is a social butterfly." That was so surprising since all my kids are sooooo shy. Matthew,AKA SPEEDY, was finally able to go to baseball practice. He loves baseball!!!

Saturday Matt had a scrimmage game. Unfortunately he never got on base but at least he struck out swinging. They played 6 innings and ended the game with a tie 1 to 1.

Sunday I had a Relay for Life(American Cancer Society) meeting at our house. Matthew, Kevin and Nicole had a fantastic time playing with their cousins(Jack & Ally) during and after the meeting.
We really enjoyed the beautiful weather the last few days. Lots of playing outside.

Sunday, April 10, 2005 10:47 PM CDT

The last few days Matt has been dealing with eye infections in both eyes. At times the discharge has been alot. He has been napping daily. Whenever he wakes up his eyes are stuck shut from the goop. Matt's eyes are red, sore and painful. If his eyes don't look better in the morning we will be calling the doctor again.

TODAY WAS MATTHEW"S 7TH BIRTHDAY!!!!! We had family over to celebrate his BIG day and Papa Ron's Birthday. Unfortunately Matt missed the beginning of it because he was napping(took a 3 1/2 hour nap). Matt enjoyed playing with his cousins. He was very anxious to open his presents. He loved everything he got. THANKS again. In the next couple days will post photos from the party.

Thanks so much to all who sent Matt birthday cards. He loved the surprise that Camp Quality had put inside the card...thanks Pat.

Update: Monday morning eyes still puffy and goopy. Called clinic and the doctor has Matt on antibiotics now to hopefully clear this up. Matt needs to stay out of school until Wed:(

Thursday, April 7, 2005 6:23 PM CDT

Monday Matthew was so happy because he was going on a fieldtrip to Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in downtown Chicago. I also was able to be a chaperone for the first time. The museum was very interesting, we all had a GREAT time.

Since then Matt has had a rough week. Tuesday he had lots of diarrhea in early am and had pain in his left ear, so he stayed home from school. Around noon on Tuesday his ear popped and he said the pain was gone. What a relief for all of us. Matt also had to miss baseball practice that night. He was back in school on Wed. and Thurs. In the afternoon on Thursday we got a call from the school nurse. Matt was sent there because his eyes were red and had goop in the corners. We called his doctor and he said to do drops and wet cotton balls to remove the eye goop. Matt had to miss batting cage practice tonight, he is sad but he is also in pain. He will mine and Nicole's partner tomorrow. Hoping his eyes look better in the morning.

Please say a prayer for all of us.

Matthew's latest count is now 3 days until his 7th birthday!!!!

Sunday, April 3, 2005 4:16 PM CDT

What a gorgeous day. All the kids and neighbors were outside today. Matt and Kevin are busy playing football and baseball with their friends. Nicole is playing on the swingsets and in the sandbox. All the kids were so excited to hear the icecream mans music, the kids were all smiles and messy faces. I have a stong feeling the ice cream man will be frequently coming by our cul-de-sac.(He made a lot of sales from us) Gotta run. I don't want to be inside too long on this beautiful spring day!!

Matt is still counting down the days till his birthday...only 7 more days!!!!
Please wish him a happy 7th Birthday. Our address is:

Hi !! We went to clinic today. It was a very long wait to see the doctor. Matthew's counts stayed the same as last time we were there 2 weeks ago. Matthew has also gained 3 pounds since last visit!! The best news was that all his scans came back negative!!!!!! It is always a huge relief to hear those words. As much as I try not to stress about the test results of routine scans it is hard not too. We do not need to go back to see the doctor until the end of the month.

Matt is starting to count down the days to his 7th birthday...it is only 9 more days. His birthday is April 10th. If you could please send him a card, he'll love it!!

We hope everyone had a nice Easter and hope you were with family or friends.

We have really been enjoying these past two beautiful days. The kids have been outside since about 9 each morning. We've played at parks, had picnic lunches and then more playing outside. The last two nights Matthew has had baseball practice. He is really loving it!! The coach says he is doing good. Matthew looks so good!!! He has been so energetic lately and eating so much. It is wonderful to see him so full of life.

On Friday,April 1st, Matthew has a clinic appointment to check his counts and get the results from the various tests last week. We are praying everything will be good. PLEASE say an extra prayer for good news on Friday.

Today Matthew had to go to Christ to get a MIBG scan. The different scans this week are routine scans, every three months we repeat them. We will be going back to Hope Cancer Clinic on Friday, April 1st to find out his results of these tests and also to get his blood counts. Matthew is in a very silly mood today, he is tiring to watch(he is so ACTIVE lately!!). Unfortunately the kids can't go outside to get rid of their energy because it is still raining :(

Matthew is looking forward to the Easter Bunny. He keeps saying that the Easter Bunny is going to bring him a chocolate bunny and a thousand dollar bill, that sure is one rich Bunny... Never hurts to dream BIG!!

Well that's all for now because the boys are waiting to play UNO with me.

Today was a long day at Hope/Christ. Matthew had to get a CT scan and an radioactive injection for a MIBG Scan. Matthew did great drinking the contrast for the CT Scan. During the first failed attempt to start an IV in Imagining, Ann from nuclear medicine came down to let us know that they didn't have the proper dose today. Hopefully they will get it later today and it will pass safety standards. We will get a call tomorrow morning to let us know if we need to go to the hospital to get the radioactive injection. Lots of waiting around today and playing Gameboy.

We did get good news when we stopped into clinic today to find out about Matt's blood culture from last Tues. There has been no growth in it!!!!

Matthew was disappointed to learn that he was not going to be able to visit his friend in Hope today because Elliott went home last night. We are so glad for him to be home!!Hope Elliott continues to get better.

That's all for now. Keep saying your prayers for us that all these tests come back normal.

Lately Matthew has occasionally complained saying that the left side of his neck hurts. You can't feel anything and just massage it a little for him.

Last night was a very stressful because when Matthew was getting ready for bed he said his neck hurt. One look at it we knew why, his left side of his neck was swollen and you could feel a lump. It also hurt when touched. We called Dr. Salvi and he said to come in Tues at 8 am, he said it was a good sign that it was painful (could just be a gland). Mike and I are extremely worried!!!

Tues at clinic we saw both doctors. They are hopeful that it is just an infection. They sent us to get a blood draw and a chest X-ray. They are checking for many things with the blood. At 11 am Dr, Hayani said the X-ray was fine and the preliminary blood results were OK. It will take a week to get the blood cultures and other results back. We were sent home with a script for Augmentin 3 times a day for a week. Matthew is in good spirits he is sitting on the couch playing his Gameboy. We are keeping him home from school today, we want him to rest and get the antibiotics in him.

Please say a prayer for us that all it was was an infection!!! That's all for now.

Matthew had a routine appointment today at Hope cancer center. The doctor is not worried with Matt's cough because he said his lungs sound clear. Matthew's blood counts stayed the same as last month, they are still low but at least they haven't dropped more. Today was a BIG day Matthew started his immunizations. He is not happy because he got 6 shots plus a TB test. In spring & summer of 2003 Matthew under went 2 stem cell transplants. Prior to each of them he had VERY STRONG chemotherapy which wiped out any cells/immunizations. Matthew's immune system is like a newborn so he has to start from the beginning for immunizations.

Tonight Matthew has a team meeting with his baseball coach. He is looking forward to being in kid pitch this season. Matthew is also wondering who will be on his team.

Today Matthew had his final game of soccer. We were glad Nana and Papa were able to come and cheer him on in his last game. The first half he played defense and was hustling hard. Matt was running fast to kick the ball away from the goal. Most of the game was monopolized by the other team trying to score. We didn't have nearly half the attempts of scoring like they did. The second half of the game Matthew was goalie. He tried really hard to stop them from getting anymore points but ended up letting 3 get by him. The final score was 6 to 3. Even though the firebirds lost the kids all seemed to have fun out there. After the game the coach handed out medals to all the players. Matthew is still wearing his medal around the house, he really loves it!!! This soccer year was so much more enjoyable seeing Matt run around like any other 6 year old, last soccer year he was running/moving so stiffly and was in pain because of the medicine he was taking.

The last few days Matthew has started coughing again. The cough went away for a couple weeks post antibiotics. We aren't too worried because on Monday Matt goes to see his doctor at Hope. We pray that his counts have gone up since his last visit in Feb. That's all for now.

Saturday morning Matthew was excited to see the Tooth Fairy visited during the night and left him a dollar. He is loosing lots of teeth lately. When Matt smiles it looks like an old mans smile, its funny but cute. Matthew had a soccer game in the afternoon he played really hard. It was great to see his surprised expression when he looked up at where we were sitting and saw his cousins sitting with us cheering him on. He had a huge smile and waves for them!! His team won 9 to 3 !!! After the game we went by his Uncle Gary's to celebrate his birthday. The kids all had a great time playing together.
The kids are all a little more tired today because of such a busy and late night yesterday. Well that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by.

This morning Matthew went to a specialist for a hearing test because he failed the school hearing test. We have gone to a hearing specialist a few times at Christ but Matthew's doctor referred us to this particular specialist in Orland. Matthew has high frequency hearing loss due to the high dose chemotherapy he had received. His hearing will never improve but it shouldn't get worse, unless he needs more chemotherapy(which we pray will never happen). Matthew does not need anytype of hearing assistance/aide. We were informed that when Matthew is in crowds he may have trouble picking up distinct voices. Today is also the last day of giving Mathew Zithromax:) He hates taking liquid meds. Thanks for stopping by!!

Yesterday Matthew had to go to Hope for an echocardiogram, post chemotherapy. After we stopped by clinic to see the doctor because Matthew still has the hacky cough. The doctor listened to him and said he has bronchitis so he will be starting an antibiotic and taking Robotussin DM. The doctor also ordered a blood draw to check his counts. His counts went up a little since his last check-up on the 7th.
Today Matthew had a soccer game. The team looked better the second half but unfortunately they lost by 2 goals. Matthew is still smiley and says he had a lot of FUN!!!
Thank you for stopping by. Please sign the guestbook to let us know you were here. Thanks so much.

Matthew still has a hacky cough and runny nose. I was really hoping that this cough/cold would have been gone by now. Last few days he has been complaining that his chest is hurting him. I am not sure what to do to stop the pain!! Today he is very sad and upset because I told him that we will not be going to help celebrate his friend Elliott 2 year remission party this Sat.
We really appreciate you stopping by to see Matthew's progress. PLEASE leave us a message to know that you were here. It is very uplifting to see who has been visiting this.
If interested in seeing Elliott's progress, who was diagnosed with Leukemia visit: www.caringbridge.org/il/elliott

Wonderful news and a big sigh of relief. Matt's test came back negative and there is NO sign of cancer! We are on cloud 9. Doctor says we don't have to check back for a month.

Over the weekend Matt had a fever and has been fighting a cold. We went to clinic yesterday and some of his counts have dropped. Today he will be having a bone marrow aspiration to check for cancerous cells. Please pray for Matt to remain cancer free. We should have preliminary results sometime today.

Yesterday Matthew had a soccer game. The first half of the game he was on offense,he was trying hard but couldn't score a goal, three really close ones. At halftime the score was 8 to 1, we were losing. The second half Matthew was goalie, I was very nervous for him. He saved the ball at least 30 times(one save was with his neck ) but unfortunately 3 goals got past him. The final score was 11 to 4. The firebirds lost but all the kids seemed to be having fun. Matthew was named player of the game for his fantastic goalie saves. This week the boys received their report cards and they are both doing really well in school.

Monday, January 24, 2005 9:21 AM CST

We had a busy weekend. On Saturday, Matthew won his second game 7 to 2. At night we celebrated Grandpa Ed's birthday. On Sunday, we got to watch Timmy wrestle at Plainfield South High School. Timmy won all matches, he got a really nice trophy. After seeing his cousin wrestle now Matthew wants to be a wrestler. Matthew is so full of energy lately, it is tiring for us to keep up with him but yet wouldn't change it for the world.

Sunday, January 16, 2005 10:47 AM CST

Yesterday Matthew had his first soccer game. It was so exciting, Matthew scored his first goal. He was beaming from ear to ear after it happened. He was running all over, he's very quick this year. Had lots of good saves when he was on defense, too. His team, the firebirds, won 6 to 4 !! I will put up pictures from his game in the next day or so. If anyone is interested in coming to one of his soccer games just let us know.

Saturday, January 8, 2005 2:19 PM CST

Matthew was very excited this morning because he was beginning soccer. Today was just meet the coach/teammates and to do a little practice. It was so enjoyable seeing him so smiley and happy out on the court... it was priceless. Matthew really seems to be enjoying playing soccer again and is running so much better this season. I will put a picture up after his first game on Jan 15th. His games are every Sat. midmorning or afternoon.

Over the last year Matt has gone for tests every 3 months to ensure he remains cancer free. These are always stressful times, especially when go see the doctor to find out the results. Looking at Matthew he is very active, healthy energetic 6 year old.

Today is no exception, last few nights Mike & I have had restless sleep...many thoughts and worries. It is 10:30 am and we just arrived home from the doctor's with all good news, all the tests were negative(no cancer detected). What a huge relief !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not need to go back to Hope Hospital until next month for his regular blood counts test. Thankfully, all his counts are slowly getting back to the normal range.

We have so much of the past year to share with you all and we'll try to add some of it to this site as soon as we can along with some updated pictures. We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and wish you a healthy happy new year.
