Tyler's Webpage Tyler: First day with his c-leg Oct. 2007
On January 15, 2002, Tyler was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in the left tibia/fibula with metastasis in his lungs. He underwent almost a year of chemotherapy with six weeks of radiation to both areas and finished treatment November 8, 2002. All had been well until June 2004, when he complained of pain in his left hip for a few weeks. A biopsy was performed at the end of June 2004 which was negative. School started and Tyler did great until the pain came back and got progressively worse. A second biopsy on October 8th, 2004 showed that Tyler had indeed relapsed. After almost 3 years on "quality of life" chemo, he was still alive, and doing pretty well cancer wise. On July 31st, 2007, Tyler had his left leg amputated about 7cm above the center of the kneecap. It was the best decision he ever made. He has been adjusting to life as an amputee, and has worked hard to get back into "normal life"!!! Sadly, on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 Tyler's lung CT showed many tumors growing in his lungs. Tyler has chosen to live his life to the fullest without any form of chemotherapy. He passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of Aug 7, 2008. A couple of unfinished items on his bucket list included watching the 2008 Summer Olympics and voting for President in November. _________________________________________________________________

Journal
Sunday, August 7, 2011 11:26 AM CDT Today we mark the three year anniversary of Tyler's passing. As always the anticipation of this day is filled with sadness and anxiety. By the time I get to this day, I am just exhausted. With so much going on in our lives right now though I have been able to focus on other things too, so that has helped. We will visit the cemetery later today to place sunflowers and remember a funny and ornery boy, a true warrior in his fight with cancer, and the young man he became as he learned how to live and die on his own terms. I hope that if anyone still visits this site they will take a moment to remember him too, and try to live as fully as he did in his short 19 years. We enjoy hearing from others about their memories with Tyler, so if you are so inclined feel free to share a memory in the guestbook. As always, we are so thankful for everyone that shared this journey with us and supported us through all these years.
