Hello neighbors! It has been awhile since I have written, and I just wanted to say hello! I am glad to see that Mac is doing so well. We never see you, which is hard to believe since we live across the street, but we do think of you. Look out because Kayleigh is driving now! Can you believe it? Well, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that we are glad to see that everything is going well at the Collins household. Give Mac and Tori a hug for us.

Hello Guys! It has been a while since I have written. I have just had a chance to read your most recent journal entry. I am very proud for Mac and your family about his salvation. Next to your own personal salvation experience, there is no greater feeling than your child getting saved. It just makes your heart feel good to know that he/she will spend eternity with you. Tell Mac we are proud of him.

Hi Collins Family,
Sounds like an awesome celebration you guys had! We were away on Damon's trip during spring break. Great article in the paper! We all praise God for His mercy and grace on each of us. Hope the recent injury heals quickly. We'd like to protect our kids from such, but you are right that it is part of growing up. We continue to keep you guys in our thoughts and prayers.

Praise the Lord. I thought about you all this weekend. I know it was an exciting day at the Collins household. We said a "praise" for your family in our prayer at Sunday School yesterday morning. I informed everyone that Mac had taken his last dose of chemo, and the class was really happy for you. I hope you can get the hives cleared up soon, but compared to the other obstacles you have overcome, this is a small, but frustrating obstacle. Chin up, all will be well. I'll keep praying for you. Mac, my family loves you!

Hey guys,
I was so glad to read today that you are almost at the end of treatment. I know we haven't been able to check in on you as much lately, but Shaun still prays for Mac often. I was reading back over some of the old journal entries tonight and was amazed at how far Mac has come and all he accomplished. God has really worked in your family over the past few years. I know I've mentioned this to you several times before, but you never failed to amaze me with your ability to continually give praise and thanks to God, through the good times and the bad. Please know that we are celebrating with you as Mac completes his treatment. We love you and miss you!

Hey Guys,
Good luck with the gold fish. We've been in the same situation before. We just missed you guys by a couple of days at Egelston last week. We were there all day of Tuesday. Damon kept his port for 6 months after treatment too. I think that's just routine. Without the port, Damon gets stuck for all the scan contrast and things now. We are concerned and praying with you guys about Dr. Briones' wife and family. We had no idea there was a problem. Please keep us updated. You guys are always in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Collins Family,
We're so excited for you guys about your Wish. That sounds so super exciting. We've talked to someone who has been on a Disney Wish, and they say it is outstanding. You really get the royal treatment. How awesome to have conquered day 730. With the comparably short treatment Damon has gone through, I sit here and cry tears of joy for you guys in how far you've come. I cannot imagine journeying where you guys have been for over 2 years now. God bless each one of you with good health and joy. I read your journal and pray for you guys often.

You have come full circle from two years ago. It is hard to believe it has been two years, and look how far Mac has come. I pray that the next six months will be just as good, and that by this time next year, you can forget all about the "C" word. I can't believe he is going to Kindergarten. I look around and see all of these kids growing up. Do you realize that my "baby" will be in the 8th grade? Have a great summer and come see us and go for a swim (if it ever gets warm enough)!!!!

Ashlie & David: What can I say? It seems like you guys have really had some rough days lately. I just wanted to let you know that I pray for you and your family daily. People like myself cannot truly understand what you are going through so I am not going to say I can truly empathize but I can sympathize. I can also pray for you and for your strength, and I will continue to do so. I am so sorry that Mac missed Hallow Him again. When Kayleigh and Megan heard Mac was in the hospital again, they remembered last year, and going trick or treating with Mac a few days later. They said they would do this again if you wanted them to. Your little boy has touched my girls in a way few others have ever done. Hold your head up as this too shall pass. Mac is a fighter, and I believe all will be well. In the meantime, I'll say some extra prayers for you guys. On a good note - I'm glad Monica is doing well. She has really been on Kayleigh's mind!!

We love you!!!

We are praying for each of you that Mac will feel better, that things work out for you with the Medicaid, and all your needs will be met and that you will soon get to relax and enjoy the things that you should be experiencing at this time. It is so hard to understand some of the battles that we have to fight in life but your faith will help you endure all that is going on. We know that you must be exhausted both mentally and physically with all that your family has been going thru. You will probably never know how many lives you have touched by sharing these times with all of us.

Remember that God is always with you and He loves you so very much.

Hello Neighbor! We found out that Mac had to make a visit to the hospital yesterday. When we found out, Kayleigh and Megan automatically started worrying. Megan has asked me a million questions this morning about why Mac had to go to the hospital JUST BECAUSE HE HAD A FEVER. It is really hard to explain to a nine year old how serious a fever is to a sick little boy. It touches me how much my girls care for other people, especially Mac. I just wanted to let you know you are still in my prayers daily but I will lift up a few extra prayers today and tonight. Sometimes I think we forget just how serious this illness is because Mac looks so healthy. However, we know that it is all in the Lord's hands, and I just hope and pray that you feel his loving presence daily and know that when God's people pray, HE LISTENS. My family loves all of you!

Hey,This is one of Macs' teachers at the pre-school (Annette).Mac is such a sweet little boy,I am so sorry he is having to go through all of this.I just lost my dad Aug.20 to cancer and I now what you are going through, those diseases are so horrible. The treatments can be unbearable at times. One thing about Mac is that he is young and I know he has so many people praying for him.My dad was 65 and already had a history of heart problems,So basically his heart couldn't handle it anymore.I couldn't imagine dealing with your own child, I know that is hard.I have 3 and I thank god everyday that they are healthy. We will keep him and ya'll in our prayers.

Ashlie:

Once again you have blessed me. Thank you for sharing your blessings. We often take our everyday blessings for granted. (i.e. our husband, our children {who are only on loan from God}, our Godly parents who love our children as much or more as they did us, and just being able to get out of the bed.) I know some days I do a lot of complaining instead of being thankful, and during those times I am often not the wife or mother I should be. So thank you for reminding me that I have nothing to really complain about, and I should be on my knees thanking God for the many undeserved blessings he has bestowed on me. Your family is in my prayers daily, and I thank you for blessing me with your strong faith and true love of Christ.
Love, Tammy

Hey everyone! It's been a longgg time since I wrote last.. at times I have been able to look at the site for updates but not write. But now I'm back.. well at least when I can {with school and all it gets kinda difficult but I will do my best!} I'm glad to hear Mac is doing well. I was in Gainesville last week for Spring break and I wish I could have gotten to see you all.. I saw the rest of the family. Well I continue to pray for Mac no matter how often I get to sign this website letting you guys know I am concerned and am still worried. Now I will start to pray for you, Ashlie, as well. Hopefully, your cancer won't be too bad and everything will be okay. I will also pray for everyone else since they have been sick and just having to watch Mac go through all of this, I don't know how y'all do it, you guys are very storng and blessed to have such a great and caring family and even community. This website has helped people all over to realize how big of a deal cancer is and how real people do have to go through this and suffer and how much you guys really need our prayers. Hallelujah! I am glad you are back in the saddle "so to speak" with your journal entries. I missed getting daily updates on Mac. It broke my heart to think you might have lost all those first days because you had done such a fantastic job, and it would probably do your morale good to look at where you were and where you are now! I and my family will pray specifically in the next week for Mac's trip to Egleston and Tori's surgery. Keep on smiling! We love you guys!

It was so good to hear from your family once again tonight.
Each night before we go to bed we go to your journal and then pray specifically for the needs you might have. We will be praying that Mac will have good days and that all will be well with Tori and the ear problem. Isn't it wonderful that God gives us special people like Momma Duck?
It must have been as much a treat for him as it was for you all for him to make the visit to your home.

Our love and prayers to each of you.

David,
Tammy heard about your web site so I thought I would write in and let you know we are praying for you and your family. This web site is great. I often made the mistake, while Douglas was sick, of keeping my feelings all to myself. I would not even allow Tammy to know how I was handling the often slow changes of his cancer. David you have always been strong and that will have a large impact on how Ashlie and Mac will handle your circumstances that are often out of your control. Ultimatly God has control, allow him to bring you peace and rest. You are living and writing a chapter of your life that will shape your future as well as your family and friends.
God Bless, Jeff Saunders and family.

David & Ashlie:

I read your journal entries every morning when I get to work. Sometimes they are happy and sometimes they are sad. I worry about what I am going to read every morning right now because of this treatment. When I read your journal entry for Tuesday, September 14 it made my heart break because I have seen Mac come so far. He will conquer this just like he has conquered everything thus far. I believe that with all my heart and soul. I pray for Mac daily but I said a special prayer when I read this. Keep the faith because God loves you and your family. I just wanted to let you know that I think of you guys daily. Love, Tammy

Dear Collins Family,
I just wanted to let you know that Mac and your entire family is in our prayers.I know the pain of having a child that is sick and the helpless feeling you get sometimes.Just know that God is ALWAYS in control and he can heal all your pain.I'll give you a short story of what happened in our family. When I was pregnant with Kirstin she got very sick and the doctors told me nothing could be done and I should prepare myself.I never felt so helpless before.I tell you all of this because a week later God healed my little girl and she is 4yrs. old now and doing great. So God is in control no matter what!! Our prayers will always be with your family. And know that if you ever need anything our family will be there for you.

David & Ashlie- I love you guys so much & I really miss seeing you- my gang is daily praying for Mac- (I'd love to get them all together).
Can you believe our little guys are turning "3"? God has a mighty plan for your little man & for the both of you, too. I was thinking, this trial of Mac's didn't come as a shock to God- He knew & He knew what each day would hold for Mac & for you- so just stay faithful.
During our trial w/ Owen's kidney- someone said to me, "it will be during this time that the prayers of others will carry you through" & boy, did they! Mac, David, Ashlie & Torie- you are being carried on the wings of prayers!
I love ya'll!

It was great to see your family at church Sunday night and then again last night at VBS. Mac seemed to be enjoying himself at VBS. It does the heart good to see the progress he is making. Ashlie - At church Sunday night when I looked up and saw that precious little boy wiping your tears, I completely lost it. It was truly precious and showed the true innocence of a child. I and my family will continue our prayers daily. Please remember what I told you about the swimming pool! Love to you all. By the way Tori looks great too! She is growing like a weed.

Being a Christian makes those "mountains easier to climb" and I often wander how people manage when they don't have the Lord to lean on. We continue to ask people to pray for Mac as others are doing....can't you just imagine the length of Mac's Prayer Chain!!
We anxiously await each night for the update on Mac. It is good of you to take the time to let us hear from Mac and the rest of your family. We can pray more specifically.

I have had your son on our prayer list at our church for weeks now. A flood of emotion fills my heart as I read your journal. My son was diagnosed with accute lymphacidic lukemia Aug.23, 2002. The cancer was in 90% of his bone marrow. We were at Emory for 5 weeks, they told us that if he had not gotten there when he did and started treatment, he would not have lived for another 4 weeks. Let me tell you,GOD is always on time!! Never doubt it! I put my son in the palm of GOD's hand that first night and asked him to do his will. Well, micheal has about 8 more months to go in his treatment. He also went through almost the exact same treatment and clinical study, I even had to give him shots when we went home to increase his white count. Micheal had lost almost 50 lbs during his illness and now has gained it all back and then some. He is 6' 5'' tall and wieghs 218 lbs. Praise GOD. Micheal will have his 21st bithday next month and going through what we went though with our son, I can't imagine what you are going through with a 3 year old. I personally pray for you and your family. For stength and GOD's grace, you need every ounce of it. GOD speed to you all!

Hello My name is Henry Lawson
First know that my family and I will be praying for you daily. We know the power of prayer first hand. My (now 6 year old) son Lee was diagonosed with a brain tumor at the age of 4 and 1/2. We spent 3 1/2 weeks in PCIU at Egleston and a total of 6 weeks there during his surgery and recovery. It has been a long 2 years and even as things have gotten better we still face the possibility of recurrance. So far, Thanks to a graceous God and many prayers our son is now doing well. I pray that God will answer your prayers as he did and continues to ours. I especailly pray for peace for you as parents and comfort as well as healing for your son. Try to get some rest when you can, and continue to pray. Look for the small miracles first, they can add up.

David and Ashlie,
I continue to pray for you and your family. As a parent, it is so hard to watch your child in pain. I know that you would take it for Mac if you could. May I share a passage with you that has meant so much to me--

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
Love you, Sandi

Dear Neighbor:

The final countdown is on! I just wanted you guys to know that you and your family (extended family as well) are in my prayers daily. My girls can't wait to see Mac. When Mac is able to visit, please call me and bring him over to swim. The girls would love it. That is a standing invitation so don't forget. My girls go swimming just about every night. Tori looked so cute Sunday. It was great getting to see her all dressed up.

David, I just wanted you know that I am impressed with your writing. You have done a great job with your daily updates. Maybe you should put it in book form so that later on when some family goes through what you guys are going through, they could see hope. Take care you guys and keep the faith.

My prayers have been with me since Heather Youngblood
Faulkner called to tell me of the news of your little
one. It just took me a little while to send you this note. I met David during our classes at Brenau. I
know exactly the pain, worry, and turmoil this event
has caused in your lives. My husband and I have been
in your place just a few years ago. Just remember we are not in control. That is the hardest thing to remember when
you are a parent and want to make everything okay.
Lean on God for strength and on family and friends for
support. I will continue to remember you in my prayers.

Hello to Mac and the Collins family. You & I have never met. A friend of mine from our church (Rock Cut Bapt. Church in Conley, Ga.), emailed me a prayer request with your web site info. First of all, I will say we will be praying for Mac & for your whole family. There will be some tuff times ahead for you, but through the Lord's wonderful grace I'm sure he will see you through this. Keep your eyes on him and pray that "his will" be done. Our own chruch has a little one with the same problem. Her name is Grace Bell, she just turned 2 years old last week. Praise the Lord, he has healed Gracie. You may visit her web site at (www.caringbridge.org/ga/gracie/index.htm). I'm sure if you need to talk to someone who's been there Brother Steven or Mrs. Lynne Bell (Gracie's mom & dad) would be glad to help you. You can reach them through our church, just leave a message & I'm sure they will call you back, the telephone number is 404-366-6092. May God bless you and keep you lifted in his arms.

David, Ashley, Mac & Tori, & family,
We got word last week about Mac being sick. I talked to Pastor John yesterday - He filled me in on some of the struggles you are going through. He gave me this site. I am so very grateful for the pictures of Mac & the info on his daily battles that you have posted. I made Mac's picture the background on my computer. So, we have a constant reminder to pray for him and you all. I am so very sorry that you are all going through this. We are praying for you continually!!! You have been on my heart constantly since I first heard the news. I thought I would encourage you with verses you probably know very well...Romans 8:24-31. Romans 8:28 has been my comfort & encouragement verse to me for several years now. As I read the other verses this morning, I thought of you. I hope they bring you encouragement during this tough time. "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. AMEN." (Phil 4:23)

David and Ashlie,
When I look at both of you I see two pillars of strength that are having to endure such heartache most of us can't even imagine. "Why?" I think is a question many of us are asking that we may never know the answer to. I believe God will and already is bringing Himself such glory through Mac. I don't know how ya'll are holding up;I know that God is with you-that's the only way to explain it.Every time I hear this song on the radio I am reminded of you all- "You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains. You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I am on Your shoulder. You raise me up, to more than I can be." God raises us up when we can't raise ourselves to endure, battle, and stand strong through the obstacles thrown our way. One day Mac will have an awesome testimony to share-and I believe God will and plans to use him in mighty ways to build His kingdom. God knew of this hardship Mac would have to go through before he was even formed-and He has a plan!!{. . . All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:13-16} He knew Mac was strong enough to endure this. I know it seems that you have been walking in the valley for some time now, but remember, when God pours on His water, the valley fills first!! I am sorry this note is so long, but I really felt a need to share these thoughts with you. You all know how much I love you!

David and Ashlie: I hope you are doing well. I was glad to hear that you all had a better day yesterday. My family and I continue to lift you and Mac up in prayer every day. It is a blessing to me to hear you give praises to the Lord, even during the hard times. He takes care of His children and knows exactly what we need and when we need it! Dear Ashlie and David,
Since finding out about Mac my morning starts the same every day. First my prayers for your family and then the painful thought of what you as parents might be dealing with at that very moment. We continue to pray for Mac every day, especially Mikayla. She tells everyone she talks to about Mac and to pray for him. We love you all very much and you and your family are special to us. From one parent to another I pray constantly for the Lord to give you both the strength to deal with this obstacle he has put before you and to carry you when you feel as though you do not have the strength to carry yourselves.

David and Ashlie,
Hope you know how much we love both of you and are
praying constantly for both of you and Mac. Know
that in the end on all of this, Mac is going to someday
be better than he ever has and be a great testimony for
the Lord. Don't worry about Tori because she loves her
MawMaw nearly as much as her MawMaw loves her.
Love you both dearly

Praise God for his healing hand upon your son. I have raised two sons and know the pain a parent feels when their child is hurt, but not to the extent you are experiencing. No words can express a parents pain for their child. So many prayers have gone out to you and your family. The power of prayer is unmeasurable. My prayers are with you and your son and I know God's healing hand is upon you. He will carry you and see you through this. All my prayers, Lori Roe

It is so hard not to question God when things come up in our lives like this.It is when we are in the valley that we gain strength from him.Just remember, my favorite Bible verse, with God ALL things are possible. We love you and are praying for an earthly healing for Mac.

David, Ashlie, Mac, and Tori,
We are thinking about you. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance this summer. Take care of yourselves and each other.

"Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it." Mother Teresa
