I was drawn to your guestbook today by a small photo I happened to notice on a Field & Stream website (http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/kentucky/2006/08/reader-snapshots-march-2006). To me, it was unmistakeable that your child had been fighting a battle similar to the one my own son has been fighting over the past 3 years, in fact after visiting your son's site, it turns out it is the same. It's remarkable how much our two boys resemble each other, especially their eyes, and their love of fishing. God works in mysterious ways, so here is my story. My daughter went to a program this weekend, it is called Teen's Encounter Christ. The families at the program were singing a beautiful song when we were there. I couldn't remember all the words so I came to the internet this morning and searched on Jesus Jesus I love you so. The search engine brought me to your sight. The reason I say he works in mysterious ways is because I have followed Jay's story for many years, because my niece, Katee Lee Johnson is also a St Jude patient. Katee is doing well. Anyway I thought I would drop you a line to let you know for some reason this song and your little fisher of men are working together.
Here is the song- Jesus, Jesus, Can I tell you how I feel. You have given me your spirit, I love you so!!!! Jay sent the words to me today, so I'm sending them back to you.

Hi, my name is Amber. I babysit Kennedi, Joey and Brittni's daughter. Brittni told me about Jay. I am so sorry, but I know that he is with Jesus, and that his spirit lives on. Cancer is such a painful thing. I lost my father on January 19, 2003 due to cancer where a tumor had invaded his corroided artery. He was 50 years old. I pray for you daily, and avidly every year donate to St. Jude's. I believe in there work, and I pray everyday that there will truely be a cure for this beast we call cancer. Am sharing two verses today. The second verse is God's own interpretation of the first verse. When dealing with all the "floods" and vehement winds beating upon us, there is only One Sure Foundation. Praying so as you face these "floods."

My son has a brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment through St. Jude out of Memphis. Kody is tough and tries his best to keep his spirits up but often feels completely overwhelmed. I can understand. I have tried to be by his side each day. Unfortunately I do have to work and keep going. Kody has Anaplastic Astrocytoma and he too is in a protocal via St Jude. Right now the tumor has almost gone with just the second round of chemo. We constantly worry about recurrance and him getting worse. My heart goes out to the family of Jay. I can understand the pain and loss. (and we still have our son!)

Just thinking about you a lot lately and wanted to check in and let you know that not a day goes by that I don't think about yall and sweet baby Jay. He will forever have an effect on me and my life. What a special child that God chose him to fill and change sooooo many lives. What an impact he has had on so many people and so many lives.! I can only painfully imagine how much ya'll miss him. I miss him for you. I know that God is taking good care of ya'll. I pray everyday for Jay's Hope and all of children and families that you are helping and ministering to. What an amazing gift. I love amd miss ya'll.

I just stumbled upon this site and was reading the devastation you'r family has been through. I am sooooo sorry that anyone has to go through that much in one life, since it is soo short! I am a 33 year old mother of two children who is in remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma. Cancer is an awful disease that tests every faith, and I can surely see it didnt even budge your family's faith. Amazing that you saw the rainbows. I left work on Eisenhower Pkwy. at about 5:10 and I saw the hugest rainbow...I got on 475 N and as I exited Zebulon Rd. it was still there. I called my husband Ty who works at Med Center Northwest and told him to go outside to see it. I told him "I think Jay painted it there for his party." I was praying you guys saw it too and when I read your last post, I was sooo glad to hear it was on Tom Hill Sr. too...it was the brightest, most beautiful rainbow Ty and I both have EVER seen. Just want to let you know how much I continue to admire your faith and hope ! What is so wonderful are the steps you and your entire family take to assist those in need of your strength and encouragement during their critical hours!!! I have been there too during the almost 2 year battle my daughter Jodi fought with a class IV Astro Cytoma (brain tumor) She made her journey to heaven when she was 24. . Her beautiful daughter was 7 and is now 21. Even though Jodi went to heaven in 1993, it's seems like yesterday. I know she can hear again and is in no pain!! Praise God!!! I always remember our WONDERFUL times!!!!
I hope you all had a joyful Christmas and I wish a HAPPY NEW YEAR for each of you !!!!
You ALL are such an inspiration to SO many.

I have read your story about Jay. He is and will always be a lovely child. My niece had brian surgrey on a none milignant brian tumor almost 2 years ago. this past week on her routine mri they found another tumor. So my brother and his wife will find out more on Dec. 27th. There are just times in our lives when we can't control things, but like you said, we mamas feel as if we should be able to handle it all. I just read your update from last week, and it was so heart-breaking. I'm so sorry you felt "guilt" for things that were totally OUT OF YOUR CONTROL!

Your other children learned what it means to tend and a care for someone who was sick. They learned how to watch 2 parents lay down their lives for their brother. They learned how prayer was so important for your daily life, and depending on God for EVERYTHING!

I believe they will be better children for this.

As the Cowboy Ball approaches this year, I can only think of Jay and my granddaughter Ainsley being the Prince and Princess of the Ball last year. It was such a blessing and honor to meet Jay and your brave family. Jay and Ainsley were so cute and caring of each other. I had given Ainsley a $2 bill that day to put in her little purse "for something special." As soon as she saw Jay, she gave it to him because she said he was the most special. Jay had just had a procedure that day and was not feeling well, but he kept giving his sweet little smile and soldiered on. What a brave and special boy and his family. You never failed as a mother. You did what you had to do in this particular situation which was beyond your control...I know how you feel. My now 15yr old who was left at home when his brother was DX wrote me a letter and said I never abandoned him (this was how I felt) and he adjusted to what needed to be done.

It has been awhile since I have been to this site because I have been checking your blog on jay's hope, but tonight I couldn't sleep and found myself praying for you and Jason. I have to say, I found your bluntness in your Aug. 31 entry refreshing. I'm glad you found a moment (although very small) to just be a grieving mama. You have inspired us all with your determination and amazing feats with Jay's Hope, but we want to know how YOU are doing, so we can minister to YOU instead of the other way around.
As Kaitlyn's birthday is coming, I remember meeting Jay for the first time. Even then, you and Jason impressed me (though I barely knew you) because in the midst of a very difficult time for Jay (and you) you still managed to throw a big shindig for Kaitlyn. What incredible parents! You still continue to amaze me, but I hope you realize that we don't expect to be amazed, we expect it to be incredibly tough for you and we will never be tired of your grief. We are here for the long haul.

Jason and Cindy, I woke up this morning in a bad mood because of a business transaction which has left us "holding an empty bag" - well, not really an empty bag, but it's hard to swallow when someone takes advantage of you. Then I turned to my Bible study of Daniel and it hit me that if I truly was resolved to walk with Christ, I should feel pity, rather than taken advantage of. Then I read your website and I realized that nothing on this earth could be worse than telling your child goodbye and not being able to hold them in this life on earth. Do you have any idea how many lives Jay has touched? Do you have any idea how many lives you and Jason have touched? You have resolved to live your life totally in God's hands. Rather than drowning in self pity you are reaching out to help others. Thank you for this life lesson and God bless you.

I have followed your beautiful story for about a year and cried along with everyone when Jay departed for Paradise. My family lost my sister at age 15 - in 1974 - and we were talking about "it" recently on her birthday. I go to your site often for you words of wisdom and encouragement. You see, my grandson, Jake-1year old was in an accident with his Daddy on March the 8th and is now paralized, or so the Dr's say. I have hope that one day he will walk and run and breath on his own without a vent. What a struggle it has been seeing him and my daughter and her husband go through this. They also have a 2 year old who has been with me since the accident as they have been in Egleston and now Scottish for rehab. Your memeories are very uplifting to me and I have shared this site with my daughter Katie. She is so distraught right now that I pray for her peace and acceptance. You are such a inspiration and enjoy your stories so much. I also wanted to tell you that although I have never met you, I know Jason. I work for Martin Wilson and see Jason here in the office often. This week is our last week of school. I've been trying to keep the kids on schedule due to final exams and all the non stop events that go along with the end of the school year. Last night Haley was stalling her bedtime..."I'm thirsty", "I need a snack", "I'm REALLY not tired", "..one more game on Nintendo DS?". I think all of us could say we'd like to have "just two more minutes" with our loved ones or even to change things that we have said or done in the past. You amaze me! God is so real in your life. I got a thousand goose bumps when I read your Mother's Day story...when you said you felt God put His loving arms around you! I thought about you on Mother's Day and prayed that God would give you peace and comfort you. Even though Jay is up in heaven dancing with the angels...he is and always will be your child. And you will always be his mother! AND you have TWO earthly children to celebrate Mother's Day with!
They are so precious...I am sooooo glad we were able to spend some time together a few weeks ago. I loved seeing Kaitlyn and Tanner...they are just growing up! Since Jason has that convention every year and yall go to Bwk., we should make that an annual "get-together". We can go to the beach and do some Spring shopping! Porter had so much fun with yall. She still talks about that w-end. Next year, Rowe will be big enough to go out to dinner!
I am so glad that you are keeping in touch through this website...I read it all the time. You stay on my mind a lot and I miss seeing you so much.
We are going to the lake Memorial Day weekend...will yall be there? Let me know...if not, let's try and coordinate a time that we will all be at the lake this summer.

You have been heavy on my heart. I am careful not to give advice on grieving, as everyone has to mourn the way that is unique to them, but, remember, there is no rule that says you have to spend time at little Jay's grave. If that is not a comfortable place for you right now, then maybe it would help you to not go right now. A friend or family member will tend it for you until you are ready. just a note to say we all love you all at Angel heart! It has been a crazy week! The Franklin Rodeo is this weekend. I remember it so well last year! Jay was having all those pictures taken with the Bull Rider! He was so cute in those little Wranglers! I miss that little Angel so much today! Cindy and family, You are such an inspiration. It has got to be next to impossible to explain how you are feeling, but your stories about Jay just make me cry. Ainsley is happy that Jay can keep her great-grandmother and her grandfather company in Heaven now. She asked if they hugged Jay when he got to Heaven and I told her that I am sure they did. Miss Ginger Gaskins is doing great, she loves bossing Buddy around and loves her treats too! I took Buddy to the Nolensville Library today for childrens's storytime hour, he had about 25 little ones all over him, he was an angel! He was missing Ginger, he yelled for her driving out the drive. Well I am going to run, a few little ones are coming out today. I wanted to say we all love you all very much and can't wait to see you all!
