What a courageous and remarkable story. We are thrilled that our friend Susan told us about you. Lifting our spirits and reaffirming that God is great. I know one little 8 year old boy who is going to love your story! After only 3.5 years of NB we truly needed a survivor story. May all your days be blessed!

Hi Destiny & Family,
I rememeber you now. "Are you out of the woods yet".
I remember that saying & the book.
So good to hear from your dad on our support group.
Maybe someday, Josh & his family will be able to go to
some of the meeting the NB Group has & we could meet.
You have a wonderful story to tell. I know God has a
plan for you & your family. Keep writing in that book.
I want to read it some day.

I came across your webite as I too have been battling neuroblastoma for many years. Nine to be exact and I continue to go through the ups and downs as they come. It is rare that you find someone in adulthood with neuroblastoma. I have only found two others. You have an amazing story and are an ispiration for everyone.

Dear Destiny -
I worked with your wonderful mom while she was at K&S recently (as opposed to "the early years"). We found we have a whole lot in common but on completely different ends of the spectrum of life. More on that later.
I have heard so much about you and truly look forward to the day we can meet. Perhaps when you return from Camp Sunshine, I'll come for a visit. You are such an inspiration to so many people (me included of course) and i can't wait till we are able meet. (repeated myself - please excuse me - i can really ramble once i get going, just ask your mom.)
I wish you a very very happy birthday - 18 is one of those tough and wonderful years - ya feel as though you know everything and at the same time you can freak out and feel as though you don't know anything (that's where great Moms come in handy). i still feel like that more rather than less, but i'm working on it. and i can always depend on my mother giving me a hug and telling me she loves me and that everthing is going to be ok. um - just nuthin' like it!
Take care - you are a beautiful girl (dare I say woman?) and look just like that beautiful mom of yours.
Eighteen - Hope you celebrate for a minimum of a week. That's the BIRTHDAY RULE!
Luv,

Yes we join you in CELEBRATION! Your dad and I have had many conversions and we have met once. I am Dustin's Dad. At the age of 5 Dustin also was diagnosed with Cancer, Ewings Sarcoma and was given a 1% chance of survival. Well he just turn 21. God brought me to Psalms 23 (The most commonly know verses in the Bible besides John 3:16. Of all places! Doesn't God realize we're dealing with Cancer, Terminal, Life and Death situation! Surely there is something else besides a child's bedtime pray!) But that was my initial thoughts but as I read I realized this was more than a bedtime pray. "The Lord is my Shepard". God asked, Am I your Lord? What does Lord mean? Over all, sovereign, can do anything He wants to do and can ask me to do anything he wants me to do! What could I say but yes, You are my Lord. "I shall not want". God- What kind of Shepard am I? A good shepard. God - Am I Dustin's Shepard? Yes God I have given him to you! God - Can you Trust Me? Yes God I Trust you. It was 10 years before they would say Dustin was in remission and even now when people ask if Dustin is cured? My reply is I don't know but I know I can trust God. Even now my eyes fill with tears because even though cancer is fading into history my fears for Dustin (will he put Christ first in is life, will he marry a Godly woman, will He be a Godly Husband, Father) I must renew my commitment, "Yes Lord I can trust you. Your a Good Shepard and you haven't lost any sheep"! Destiny my charge to you and to Dustin is "Do waste the suffering". Let others know the abundant life that is in Christ! Oh by the way, He (God) is a good refiner also, and he hasn't lost any gold! But thats something you are learning.

Destiny Hurst! You can't possibly be 18 years old! Wow! I haven't seen you in a long time, but I remember what an adorable little blonde tike you were and what a blessing to your mom and dad. In fact, the last time I think we saw each other, you were standing beside the cradle of one of my own babies (8 or 10 years ago), wearing a fur coat that Maggie had given to you for your birthday! Time moves way too fast. You're a tough little cookie, Destiny. Best wishes for your 19th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 60th, 80th...and all the birthdays in between!

Destiny, I have worked with your Mom and Maggie for many, many years and have kept up with you through them. There are quite a few here at King & Spalding that have prayed for you over the years and it worked.

You remind me of words from a recent commercial "I may be small but I'm mighty" and that you are.

Congratulations on your 18th and many, many more.

Destiny,
Happy Birthday! You don't know me, but I know your Dad and he is one of my favorite people in all the world. I remember when you were first diagnosed and how many of us "Old Alarm Guys" started praying for you. WOW, what a difference prayer makes!!! Your parents faith, their many friends of faith, and Almighty God have brought you this far and it's evident God has some very important plans for you in this world, so "You go girl". You and your family are still in my prayers. God Bless You.

Happy, Happy Birthday. We sure do miss you and hope to see you again soon. What a wonderful time in your life. I know there is so much to look forward to. Hi Destiny,
I continue to keep in touch with your parents by email. I was treated for osteogenic sarcoma at Egleston. Dr. Vega was my doctor also. I will never forget what he told me one time when I was on chemo. He told me prayer would work better than his chemo. He was right and I have never forgotten what he said. You are an amazing young lady and God has truly blessed you. Happy belated birthday!

Destiny,

Your Dad and I work together and so he forwarded your story and I am thankful that he did.

It appears that God has a plan for you that is beyond what this earth has thought possible. I will pray that you are completely able to fulfill that plan and that it will be made abundantly clear to you what it is.

May you and your family continue to be blessed.

I remain thankful for miracles,

Dear Destiny,

Happy, happy 18th birthday to you. I am glad to have this opportunity to celebrate with you from across the country. We think about you often and give thanks for the love that connects us across the miles.

Your father's presence with us just a year ago at the time of the death of our Sarita was such a great gift to us.

We are celebrating with you from here in every way we can.

Happy birthday Destiny, you are an inspiration to many others. My daughter Megan was diagnosed NB1V September 03. She has been NED for a little over a year now. The fear of relaspe is terrifying. You have shown that even children that relapse there is still hope at the end of the tunnel.

Have a wicked birthday

Happy Birthday Destiny!!
I started reading your story 7 years ago, and 18 seemed a long way off then. The way you look now, I know your dad's main problem is the phone bill and fighting off your boyfriends at the door!

Hi Dave,
Its been a while. I haven't looked at the list for over 18 months, but see there are many familiar names still there, including yours. Hope all is well with you and your family. You certainly look a happy bunch.
My daughter Belinda is now 16, and doing really well. She was given her 5 year all clear nearly 2 years ago, so we have other, much smaller (teen) problems with her now!
All the best, Alf.

I have read the guestbook and feel as if I am the least experienced with this disease. I need some information and support. My 5 year old son Mason was diagnosed with metastatic neuroblastoma stage IV on April 11 of this year and it's already been the longest month of my life since. He is so strong willed, but sometimes I need to be reminded to keep the faith. Can someone refer me to other parents who may have success stories with their children battling this disease. I would love to discuss treatment and get opinions and hear stories of their children's battle to better prepare me for the rough road ahead.

Sincerely,
Kelley Thomas

Wow, Destiny, I had no idea how much you have in common with my daughter Courtney. She was dx when she was 3 (and give only a 5% chance of survival) was in remission for almost 8 years. She relapsed when she was 12 and given a <1% chance of survival. Six years later here we are! Courtney will turn 18 in August so you're even very close in age! Are you going to Chicago this year? We are going to try to go! You are absolutely beautiful and so very strong. Keep up the good work! Perhaps someday we'll get to meet you and your family. By the way I love the name of your book!

Take Care

Well it's about time you guys have a website! Man I miss you all! I was great fun seeing David here in Philly a few years ago -- when are you coming back?????

Anyway, wish I could see y'all again and sorry I'm going to miss Chicago, but this nursing class thing is keeping me real busy!

Congratulations Destiny, and Happy Birthday! I'll never forget the time we spent in Chicago in 2002.
