Mom I know this day is hard for you,
without me there by your side.
I know the pain that lives in your heart,
And i know the tears you try to hide.

I was born 24 years ago,
a day for us to celebrate,
But mom there is something I nedd for you to know,
I now have another birthdate.

You see the day god called me home to live with him up above,
I was born again in Heaven,a child of god it's true,
I was carried there on the wings of a snow white dove,
but i still live forever in the heart of you.

While my body will not be there,to celebrate with you,
you still have me with you,i live within your heart,
And my fifth birthday in Heaven will not be blue,
mom it's just a brand new start.

I don't want you to be sad today,
just remember me with a smile,
for i am not gone, just away.
And it's only for a LITTLE WHILE.

Cause mom,I am an angel now, with a beautiful pair of wings,
And I'm waiting for you up here in Heaven, until your day is done,
up hear is only beauty, happiness and joy each new day brings,
no days of rain, only endless days of sun.

So while you remain in your body on earth below,
I am celebrating my fifth birthday in Heaven above,
And if you could see me here, you would know,
That I am truly happy, living surrounded by love.

So light a candle,or visit my grave if you must,
send a balloon to the skies for me up there,
i am with you today and everyday,in that you can trust,
And one day we will be together again, mother dear.

Missing you Brandon.....will love you forever and ever!

"Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength". Nehemiah 8:10. My heart is sad for those left behind, but so joyful knowing that Brandon is blessed to see our Savior face to face on a daily basis. I was blessed to know Brandon many years ago, my son Chris and he were playmates as well as fellow Cub Scouts. He had a wonderful attitude and a loving nature...one that I am sure is missed dearly.

I'm SO SORRY I missed your "four year mark." I know those dates can be hard. We've got a two year one coming up ourselves.

I would love to think that our little men have met and befriended each other in HEAVEN. Either way.. can you imagine when we're up there with them?? I can TRULY ONLY IMAGINE...

Please know you're in my thoughts and prayers...

Dawn, Steve, Jordan & Seth,
"Dates" do cause one to ponder even more the things that pass through the heart and mind routinely anyway. I was in Myrtle Beach, SC on Aug 3rd and after driving through the night to get there, I was swimming in the ocean happily and I thought about "this date" it was "Aug 3rd" and want you to know was praying for you. I was praying that some of the wonderful feelings of hope, happiness, eager anticipation, and freedom that I felt swimming would be sent your way on this difficult day.
You are all a testimony to the ability of "forgiving God" (really, "trusting" God's plan) even through the pain you have endured; You know if others could take some of that pain away we would but the best we can say is "We Love You"
and "We Care"!!
Love,
Kim

Well, Dawn. So nice to be writing to you again. I feel as if I know Brandon well, through your helpful comments. Karen was so impressed with your insights on "perspectives" that she passed along the contact site so I too would be benefited, and indeed I am. I lost my beloved wife a year ago in July, and the pain of separation still weighs heavily, even though I am supremely comforted, knowing where she is. In one of the pamphlets on coping with grief which came to me, there was a quote from the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, who had apparently suffered the loss of her spouse: "The presence of his absence is everywhere", a simple statement which captures what we who have lost dearly beloveds endure. Through the grace of God I had a dream, a glimpse of her in her heavenly domain - incredible sunlight (Son-light?) in the background, clearly happy and content, restored to a state of former healthful vigor and with the personhood we all knew so well, admired, respected and loved. I am convinced the same healing metamorphosis is applicable to Brandon. They await us. I gave the title "Together Forever" to the special prayer I say nightly, and I have no doubt whatsoever that you too will enjoy that same ongoing relationship of love. Bless you, dear. Bart Hinkle

Hi Dawn, It's Cindy Downes we were on emmaus team together years ago when Brandon was just put on the transplant list. Well my husband went to be with Brandon on 6/6 of this year and Wednesday will be 2 months and the pain is still so real. It wasn't his transplant that failed. I read your page for inspiration to know that I won't always feel this way. Greg and I have been together for 27 years and I just have this hole inside that is so empty. It amazes me how God brought us together and how our lives have so many things in common. I remember being a few years back at AI with my granddaughter and seeing Brandon's pictures on the wall. Are you still active in Emmaus? I still cry quite a bit but it's just almost been 2 months so I guess that is where I should be. I will continue to pray for your family and to know there is hope that I wont always feel like I do today. Love, Cindy

I am so sorry that your son had to leave this earth so early. I have read many of your postings and it is obvious that he truly blessed your life. I am a friend of Kelly's and Sammi's, and I know they have really been impacted by you. I'm glad the Lord is restoring your joy. I know the Lord loves you and is so proud of your victorious life. I also have a child with CF. My daughter will soon be having a lung transplant. This is a journey that can be exhausting and can choke out the good seed God intends to fertilize. It's very encouraging to me that you have chosen to plant your seed in fertile soil. God bless you dearly,

It has been ages since I have posted. I miss you terribly and often do not know what to say. I hear Dad in the back ground of my mind saying "suck it up" you are supposed to be the strong one - you need to be there for Dawn and Allan. And for so long that is exactly what I have done. But I guess today is different and I just wanted to say I miss you terribly, I think of you each and everyday - I hate that Brooke, Jordan and Seth have lost their big brother and that Madison will truly never know what a wonderful friend and cousin you are. I miss all the pranks, the laughter, go cart races, days at the pool and weekend sleepovers. I miss not having the opportunity to watch you grow-up, go to college, date, get married and have kids - all the things you look forward to for your own. If you were here we would be hanging out in the basement playing pool or guitar hero - I am sure you would win but I will always be the battleship champion :). This past weekend was the Youth Rally in OC - I can just see you laughing at Justin Lookadoo's jokes, his hair and saying the same thing the rest of us were thinking - Man is he tall!! I cherish what God gave me and look forward to seeing you again. I love and miss you!!!

Thanks for writing and checking in on us...I just realized that Brandon and Cavion had the same birthday 26 May (different years obviously)... I too think of you and pray for a tiny bit more peace each day until we reunite with our children!

Hello Sweet Dawn, Each day at work, I say hello to your 3 boys whose picture (the 2nd one on your site)is posted by my desk. They make me smile and they remind me about what is truly important and to quit sweating the small stuff. By your suggestion, we celebrated Brandon's day doing our kids favorite family thing, playing Pictionary. Of course, the girls kicked butt and we toasted our milkshakes to Brandon and family! xoxo Seth's poem was so touching, as he spoke from his heart to ours. I saw Mr. Jordan today, he recruited a group of 9th graders to sign up for a new band class. I looked at them all, finally saw Jordan, lit up, Heeeeey Jordan, made a move towards him to squeeze him tight, read his body language, (i think it said, dont do it, i am playing my cool, young, teacher role here, dont spoil it for me, please oh please), and so I gave him an adult type slap on the back. But tomorrow....he's mine. :)
Thank you for always including me in your messages to and about Brandon and family. I wish you peace. xoxoox

i have so many memories with brandon. from playing pool, the "wet suit man" as debbies already mentioned haha, hiding 4 of us behind the bass drum during band to play cards, swimming and just hanging out and enjoying ourselfs. One of my favortie memories is probably the one day during band the whole band was practicing on stage and we decided that brandon could fit into this blue tube we store percussion stuff in. after he got into it, we put the lid on it, carried him across the back of the stage. while we were carrying him in this tube i jokingly said "lets flip it upside down and see what happens". well he started yelling to let him out and of course the band had stopped playing so everyone was starring at us, including mr. mentzer, who didn't find it to funny at the time lol. good times...i think about brandon all the time, we all miss him so much. i'm sure i will see you guys soon.

The "3rd" of each month. I used to think "my birthday" (12/3). Three years ago I started thinking "Brandon" and two years ago begun to think "Brandon" and "Chad". They're always days with tears and a heavy heart. It's by no means the only times I think of them but "the 3rd"- that date is a tough one for me so I pray extra hard for you then. I hope whatever you guys have decided to do today brings you JOY!
Dawn,
Thanks for the reminder of taking the time to enjoy ourselves today. So typical of you! That's why I love you so much!

Dawn, Steve, Jordan and Seth,
Hi to all of you.
On this bittersweet day where we on earth mourn the loss of Brandon's presence we also rejoice that he is safely with God in Heaven, full of the laughter and joy he brought to so many during his time here on earth.

I wish I could be with you today, but I am with you in thought and prayer and will ask God's blessing on you.

Much love, Karen

I had a great time getting to know Brandon in the youth group at Lincoln Church. I remember the Greek Peak Ski trip a few years back and he was in my diesel truck with me and some of the other boys in the group. It was pure teenage laughter for about six hours up to the ski resort and it continued through the couple days of snow adventures finished off with another six hours of teenage laughter back to Delaware. That trip was a great time for all. Good Memories. Brandon had a great personality that you just wanted to see more of and a wonderful smile. It was surely an honor and priviledge knowing him.
Godspeed!

Great new look on the site, Dawn. Great big step! Just wanted you to know I was thinking of you, the family and of course, Brandon! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you (as they always are)! Wonderful to be able to look at this site to see Brandon's smiling face. I saw this quote and thought of Brandon and of your family:
“Where there is great love,

there are always miracles.”

- Willa Cather

.....and Brandon sure was a miracle! He brought inspiration and love to so many people--family, friends, neighbors, school mates, teachers, athletic teams, church families, community members and leaders, and even strangers-that bond that was formed by Brandon was truly a miracle and God's plan at work! Bless you all as you celebrate Brandon's life on Friday! You know he will be smiling down on all of you. He'll be in our thoughts as well!

Hey Dawn! The new look of the site looks awesome! I know Brandon is proud of you for taking that step. I could be on here forever leaving great memories of Brandon. I think one of my all-time favorite memories of him would have to be the wetsuit. Who thinks of putting on a wetsuit and filling it up with water, and then trying to get out of the pool?? Brandon, of course! He ALWAYS could make you smile and laugh! That's what I miss the most about him. Thinking of you guys often.

Dear Dawn, Steve, Jordan, and Seth,
I look at my picture of Brandon, Kevin, Megan, Kelly, Ashley, Jen, and Ali taken at MHS Homecoming 2002. I have known for over four years that God's hand and whispers led me to getting that picture taken. Kevin Patrick spent 75% of that night trying to get everyone together for that one picture but he knows God's will was done. Our love and prayers are always with you all, Janet, Kevin "Skip" Sr, and Kevin Patrick

Hi Dawn,
A memory that I treasure is the day Brandon handed in his senior memory book to me, and he and I read through it together. He laughed and smiled as he talked to me about the events he had chosen. His words tell of his love for his family, and give insight to his remarkable positive attitude, faith, and bravery. I'll never forget the glimpse I had of eternity that day. What a loving young man and I'm blessed to know him as a student.

Let me know how you spend Friday and thank you for the email. As your journey continues remember, God holds us all in the palm of His hand. I'll talk to you soon.

Dawn,
I won't have access to e-mail tomorrow so here is my birthday wish and blessing for you and Brandon-- that Brandon, who is in a much better place than the rest of us, watch over you on his birthday and help you remember all the joy and blessings he brought you as a mother. I have often felt that maybe Mother's Day and birthday's should be reversed with mothers giving gifts to children who have blessed them and allowed them to become Mothers and on birthdays children giving gifts to Mothers for giving them birth. Oh, well, whatever, those of us who are mothers (and step-mothers) are blessed by our children (and step-children) and on their birthdays we are reminded of the great gift God has given us--our children. Love, Karen
