Hi Little Buddy! It was so nice to swoop in and visit you while you were sleeping the other night and see your pearly white teeth! I know you were very brave getting all of that dental work done and I am very proud of you! Dr. Brown told me that she saved your tooth, so you'll have to put it under your pillow for me after you see her next week! Remember to brush, floss and use your fluoride...no giggling while you're swishing!!

Hi Nicholas,

I am happy to hear that you will be taking part in the Hole in the Wall Gang camp this summer. I bet you will have lots of fun. I looked at the Golf Fore The Kids web page and was so proud to see that little kids like you and Jacob are doing such a great job helping so many other kids and their families through fun activities like golfing. Too bad I won’t be able to participate in the June 28th golf event. Wish you a very happy birthday in advance. Although I will be not playing golf with you and your family on the annual fundraising golf tournament, I feel good that I will be working with doctors in Boston and learn a few things that might help cure some diseases in the future. I enjoyed meeting you at the Y on Family Fun Night. School will be over soon and summer vacation is right around the corner. Exciting, isn’t it? Hope you and your family have an awesome summer! Do you still play with those cool cars of yours? Wait till you drive a real car like I do now! It is so..o…o…. much fun! I still play soccer games using mini ball with my action figures! Being the youngest kid in the family allows you to play with action figures even at age 16! Don’t ever forget to be a happy kid.

Say hello to your mom, dad and sister for me.

Hello Veras. I got the school flyer about the tournament, and called Mrs. Osit. She probably thinks I am nuts, but I have a pretty good idea of what you guys have been through. My son is starting 2nd grade this year at Jacob's school, and he finished 3+ years of chemotherapy for leukemia 8 months ago. We just recently switched to CCMC because we had been seen in NY. I have been on CB for years, and know literally hundreds of people, including a dear friend whose son also has rhabdo. My thoughts and prayers are with you on this journey none of us intended. Please let me know if you need anything.

Dear Nicholas and Kaeley, Leave it to me--I didn't know you had ONE bird and now you will have TWO! I wonder what they will say to each other. When we had two cats they usually said, "HISSSSSSSSS!" to each other. That's what I've been saying about WINTER. By the time you take your Make-a-Wish trip, perhaps Spring will have quietly flown in like a wonderful, cheerful, colorful, long-wished for bird! Enjoy yourselves!! Love, Becky

Dear Nicholas, WOW!! Your make-a-wish date is set. As soon as I read that, I put on my big Mickey Mouse Grin and waddled around the room like Donald Duck a few times. Is it obvious that the LONG winter has gotten to my brain?? I am SO GLAD you and your family can make these WONDERFUL plans for the almost-springtime. I think you will LOVE Disney World. Love, Becky

Hey folks,

I brought your happy holidays letter to work weeks ago in order to say hello to all of you. The older cousin has problems with email!!! Well it finally made it to the top of the pile and I decided to sit and figure this out. Glad to hear all is going well. Hope you are staying warm - now I know why the older you get the more you want to move to Florida. Nothing overly exciting going on here in the big city. Just wanted to finally send a hello to Nicholas and Kaeley as well as the both of you. Just think you actually gave me this email address when you came to town for the Big Apple Circus. Got to love the on-time performance. I will end now and hope I hit the correct button so you actually get it. Take Care and stay well!

Hi Nicholas & Kaeley,
I got a card from your mom today telling me all about Kaeley's new room and the Care Bears I sent. I'm glad you like them! Did you go and play in the snow today? I didn't have to go to school at all; my students were so happy! (So was I!) I hope to be able to come and visit you guys soon...I miss you! Stay warm, it's so cold outside! Brrrr!
Love,

Hi Nicholas - Tell your daddy and Matt that we really liked the dinner they brought us. I liked the corn bread the best and my brother liked the corn! Isn't that funny? We had to visit the Clinic today. I made finger puppets! I had fun hanging out with you at the Christmas parties last month. I hope we can get together and play sometime soon. Your Friend, Jacob

Dear Nicholas, I am sorry the mere thought of "doctor day" gives you the collywobbles. And it's no wonder...you have toughed out a LOT of doctor days for a young guy. I am glad there were no vaccinations this last time. Who wants to feel like a pin cushion, if it's not necessary? About the COLD...if you need a nice hot waterbottle along your backside, I could send Badger over to spend the night. He is quite the crazy cat, what with all the FREEZING nights and days. He wants to curl up with me, then he wants food, then he needs a drink, then he wants to play "sting" or to chase his tail, next he THINKS he wants a noseful of cold air, only to shrink back, when I open the door and the air hits him. Or the snowflakes dust him. No sleep for the Mama in the family!!! I am ready for SPRING about six months too early. Stay warm and well, all of you. Love, Becky

Dear Steve, Kim, Kaeley, and Nicholas, What a WONDERFUL addition to your web site!!!! It gave me a natural HIGH!!! You deserve all the good things that are unfolding in your lives. You've payed forward for all of them by your courage and good intent and undying humor in the face of some pretty nasty odds. The best part of our day today was having Nicholas and Kaeley drop by with the Girl Scout cookies. I say that "cookie in cheek" and wonder HOW I could think of eating one more sweet after the holidays. I should just skip the cookies and remember that Nicholas and Kaeley were the SWEET part of the day. Blessings ALWAYS. Love, Becky

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers everyspring. He sends you sunrise every morning. Kim and Steve, your latest entry really struck a cord with me. Time has absolutely crawled for us during the past 2 years. We just want to end this terrible time and start living life again. Dear Nicholas -

You are a very brave boy who has taught Mommy and I many valuable things over the past 12 months. The most valuable lesson for Daddy has been to be strong even when facing major adversity and to shelter yourself with the love of your friends and family. The power of this love has helped all of us through this year and will sustain us in our futures.

While we near the end of our treatment journey, I want you to know that I love you and I thank you for being strong because there have been many times over the past 12 months that your strength has been the only thing to get me through the day.

With all of my love to a very special boy......DADDY

Dear Nicholas, We hope you and Kaeley had a wonderful time on your Mystery Trip!!! Some day on the way home from Kaeley's bus stop, do tell me what your favorite thing about the trip was. Probably something dare-devil,right?? And I will show you a photo of our little Hazel sitting up all by herself!! That probably doesn't sound like much of a feat to you, but it's pretty good for a baby. Stay well!! Love, Ron and Becky

Hey Nicholas.......I hear that you are enjoying school this year......that makes me smile! Not too much new with us......the kids are busy with school and sports. Greta is playing fieldhockey again this year and really getting into that. Hannah is managing the high school fieldhockey team so she practices with the jv girls everyday after school and keeps track of the book at games. Luke is running cross country.......well they call it cross country but he isn't really running across the country......he does go pretty far though....HAHA! Larissa is very happy at her new school.......she likes the bigger university and is making lots of new friends. She is playing fieldhockey too.....and studying hard. I know she will make a good teacher when she is done with school. We miss you......I realized yesterday that we haven't seen you since your party........that makes me sad. I hope that both of our families can find a day to get together soon. Hi to Kaeley and Mom and Dad too. Talk soon. I love you. Aunt Carol

Hi Nicholas,
It was so nice to meet you and your family a few weeks ago when you came to visit us at the ballpark. I hope you had as much fun as we did! Tater was excited about you and Kaeley helping him with Tater Tot...you both did a great job singing and dancing with him for all the other kids! He would really like one of the pictures your mom and dad took of you and Kaeley that day...maybe you could send him one. We all think you are such a brave little boy and hope you, Kaeley, your Mom & Dad will be back to visit us soon! (Maybe next season you can race Tater around the bases!) =0)

Dear Nicholas, Hope you will soon be over the sniffles. We wouldn't want to have to call you, "Nicholas Snuffalupagus"!! (forgive the phoenetic spelling--I haven't watched kid TV in years and have lost my edge!) We are still hoping to hear about your first days back at school and about all your new friends there. I think they would be amazed, if you ever showed them some of your special cars that light up, talk, whirr, and speed around. Stay healthy!!

Hi Nicholas,

It was very nice of you to visit us in our new class room. Mrs. Terri and I were feeling very tired after lots of moving and arranging since past week. So—o—o much stuff from our old room had to be moved to the new room!!! We needed to see a friendly face who could make us feel good and tell us that we were doing a good job! Seeing your mom and you gave us the boost! Mrs. Terri and I stopped complaining; feeling tired, and finished putting together the new classroom. It looks great. We have put your name tag on the cubby you chose and your Apple/School house decoration is hanging from the ceiling in the spot you had picked out. See you on Friday 'OPEN HOUSE DAY'.

I am glad that Kaeley, and your mom, dad, and grandpa had fun at the game as well. I am looking forward to next season so you can come back to another Navigators game.

Hey, Nicholas. I hope you are feeling a bit better by the time you read this. I think of you guys often and wish you the best as you fight your battles. Tell Kaeley that I've been thinking of some books for her to read. She might like the A to Z mysteries by Ron Roy, which some kids I know love. The Honey Bunch series by Helen Louise Thorndyke is wonderful (although it might be hard to find). David Adler's Cam Jansen series used to be one of my favorites, too. Maybe she'll read some of those to you. Lots of love and prayers,

Hello Nicholas,

I am back from my vacation. We went to Wildwood Crest, New Jersey for a week. The beach was so--o--o big! But the water was too cold. That did not stop Saagar, Priya, their cousins, uncle, and dad from swimming and boogie boarding! My sister and I made huge sand castles on the shore. Every night we went for a long walk (2 miles each way). I was exhausted but did not want to come home! Then I thought of you and other kids who will be coming back to school soon. It would be silly to come to the class room and have no teacher to teach, right!!! Or may be not!!! Can't wait to play with you and hear your giggles. Right now Mrs. Terri and I are going to the school as students to learn new things to be good teachers. Our teachers do not let us play. All we do is listening, read and write—no play! Can’t wait to come back to our own school where we can play with you and your new friends.

Love, Mrs. Pandit <tharunam@yahoo.com>

Hi Nicholas! Just thought I would check in to see how you're doing and say hello! It sounds like you've had a more exciting summer than me! It sure hasn't been the same around the Y this summer without your smiling face! It gets lonely around here when Nursery School is on vacation for the summer. Hi Nicholas. Guess what? The other day we went to a park in Stamford, Ct. Boy was that a long trip, but on the way we past a road called Nicholas Ave. You're pretty famous to have a road named after you. We also saw lots of wild turkeys on the side of the highyway eating. I thought they were pretty silly for being so close to such a busy highway. It reminded me of a joke. Why did the turkey cross the road? To get away from KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). That is why there is no turkey on the menu. And they say turkeys aren't so smart! Love, Mrs. Terri

We were so pleased to find out that you will be going the same week as we are! We were very sorry to hear about your couple of bad spells, let's just hope that they were the last!! Samantha's web site is www.caringbridge.org/ct/samanthab. Hope you have a great time at the beach in RI. Drop us a line sometime.

All of our thoughts are with you!!

Hi Nicholas,

It has been a long time since I said hello to you! Sorry. I have not forgotten you. Things got little hectic at my home. Priya has asked me to say hello to you and she sends her invisible hugs to you, did you get it? Saagar is sending a magic supper power to you to see if it will work on keeping your medications down better and not make you feel nervous. Do let me know if it worked or not. Say hello to dad and mom and lots of love and butterfly kisses to you and Kaeley.---Mrs. Pandit
p.s. tell dad Thanks for taking my graduation pictures. they are beautiful. I will send them soon by e-mail.

Hi Nicholas. I was thinking of you today. We have finally had some sun for more than one day in a row. You must be outside busy as a beaver with playing! My son Brandon got out of school last week and has been busy riding his bike and digging holes in our yard. I asked if he was digging to China but he said he was farming. He is loving the sunshine. We went to the beach on Father's Day and Brandon was in the water for two hours. He's crazy! Take care and keep smiling.

"Well...what type of bird are you...a TURKEY or an OWL?" She was VERY proud of this joke and said she hopes it makes you "laugh like mad"! Hi Nicholas,
We notice that a lot of people talk about the weather when they write a message to you. The weather here in Virginia has been as wet as it has been in Connecticut. Today, however, was absolutely gorgeous, in the mid-70's with a nice breeze. Uncle Bill mowed the lawn, and I had all the windows open to do a good house cleaning inside. We hope it was a nice day in Connecticut, and that you were able to play outside. Gee told us that you and your Mom had a visit with her. She always looks forward to a visit from you and from Kaeley as well.
Keep on truck'in with those treatments!
Love,

Hi Nicholas,

I haven't been on your site in a while, so I just did some reading to catch up.

I didn't know you could fly!!! (zip line) -- I guess you really are a "Super Boy", aren't you??!! That sounds like it was a lot of fun to climb up and zip down.

We all know how "super" you are in taking your medications and treatments, too -- keep up the good work!

Dear Nicholas,
I am so glad to hear that your medical treatment is going very well. After reading your mom's journal, I see that your weekend is going to be full of fun activities with the whole family and many-many friends. So many people stopped by, and especially kids who love cars and trucks were admiring your art work on Fine Arts night. I know you and your friends are graduating soon but I am looking forward to having you in my class next year. Let me tell you a little secret, us teachers are nervous too when we get a bunch of new kids coming to our class! We wonder sometimes if they will like us. I know I will have one buddy in my class whom I love so much and he likes me too! (Can you guess who that is? you, of course!)

Dear Veras, Just reading about your camp experiences brought tears of joy to my eyes! You all deserve to have the happiness and the release from the usual stresses you found at Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. And all the things you made and were given there will remind you of the caring people at the camp for a long time to come. I firmly believe that when things are tough, God sends us those very people we need in our lives to light our lives and to mend our wounds. And you may very well be the ones who ministered to someone else at camp unawares. God Bless!! Love, Becky

Hi Nicholas, Happy Easter to you and Kaely and your mom and dad. My son, Brandon, played a trick on us this morning. He came into our bedromm crying and saying the Easter Bunny didn't come to our house. But guess what? He did and my son said April Fools. The Easter Bunny had left him a basket behind our rocking chair and it was filled with guess what? No not candy, but cars. They were toy cars, not the real ones that Nicholas S. gets in his house!
Take care and have a great vacation in Vermont. Don't bring back any cold weather or snow. We need warm spring sunshine.

If you can come, that will be great. If you and dad can't make it, we will have a special day for you and him some other time. Hi Nicholas,

We had a great time with Gee and Pa when they visited us in South Carolina. We were lucky to have many sunny days, where we could all be outdoors. This week it has been raining every day, and spring has really sprung. Lots of daffodils and tulips are in bloom, and the grass has grown so much we will need to get a goat to nibble it down. Wouldn't that be a funny thing - to see a goat in our front yard nibbling away!

Last night we watched the UCONN Huskies women's basketball team play a great game. They beat the Tennessee women's team. They are a good team also, but UCONN has some young players who play like they have played a long time. It's fun to watch a game when the score is so close.

Hope all goes well on your visit this Friday. We will be thinking of you, and wish you well. Hugs and hi to Kaeley, Mom and Dad. Tell Kaeley we received the magazine order form; we'll fill it out real soon.

Love, Uncle Bill and Aunt Biz

Dear Nicholas,
I am glad to hear you do not have to go for treatment this week. I hear from your Dad that you were the only one that did not get sea sick on your trip to Block Island !!! I hope each day gets better for you. Summer will be here real soon. I hope. (Are you sick of this cold and wet weather yet???). My dog, Pepper, and my cat, Sammy, hope you feel a whole lot better soon. By the way, I think your Dad is afraid of small animals. Ask him about the Ferret at the Wilbraham Peach Festival (last August) and the little tiny dogs that someone brought into work the other day.

After that, I can do something FUN!! See if that could work for you, my friend. Stay well. Hi to Kaeley, the Rabbit Artist!! Love, Becky

Hi Nicholas,

I hope you're feeling better this weekend. Sorry to hear that you were sick a few days ago. It's supposed to be nice and warm the next few days, so I hope you are feeling well enough to go outside and play in the nicer weather.

Do you believe we still have huge piles of leaves at our curb? After all that snow finally melted, all the leaves we put out front showed up again. Unfortunately the snow plows were spreading the leaves all over our yard and down the street (into neighbor's yards -- ooops!). Well, now we have a huge mooshy pile of leaves with lots of bugs & goop. I hope the people from the town who come later this month to suck up the leaves don't mind bugs and stuff! Aaron put on his winter boots and waded through some of the leaves and puddles that gathered -- yuck! I bet that sounds like fun to you, too!

Take care, and keep on being so brave!

Love,

Dear Nicholas,
I work with your Dad at Wingate. I hear about you often but your Dad works hard and does not have a lot of time to chat. He gave me your web site address so I thought I might check it out and get to tell you personally that I do really think you are a BRAVE kid. I hope you are feeling better today. From reading previous notes to you, I see that you really like hockey. My son (who is now 18 years old!!!) was a Goalie from the time he was 6 or 7 until he was 15. I spent a lot of cold nights watching him practice and my weekends watching him play. He has several SHUT OUT patches and that makes me very proud. I am proud of you and I know your parents are very PROUD of you. Hope you feel better soon.

Dear Nicholas and Kaeley, WOW!!! Look at that sunshine today. Better than more snow, right? We know a 'possum came to our back deck last night to eat birdseed. How did we know? Because we could see his footprints in the snow...and the long straight line, where he dragged his tail. No wonder Badger's fur stood on end! We hope you will enjoy the sunshine and your little break from treatment, Nicholas. Your bravery makes us so proud!! Kaeley, I just looked again at your Valentine note this morning. We are glad you are doing so well with your treatments. The snow down here is melting fast, and what we will have left in the street will be lots and lots of sand. The men from the county came around the other day and said they would be using a big truck with a vacuum cleaner on it to pick up all the sand. Keep up the good work. Hi Nicholas,

Well, it's felt like spring the last few days, despite that big snow on Friday. Did you get to make any snow angels in all the snow we've had this winter? I love to do that with Aaron and Josh. Just think, in a few months, we could try to do that in the sand at the beach! Ever make "sand castles" in the snow and "snowmen" on the beach? It makes me laugh to do that.

Have a great week! You are doing a great job being such a brave boy!

Uncle Bill and I have been thinking about you a lot. We're pleased to hear you are doing so well with your treatments. We have lots and lots of snow in Virginia. Uncle Bill has shoveled the driveway several times, and we have enough snow piled up along the edge of the driveway to make a snow fort. Hi Nicholas,

WOW! This is so neat that you have your own web site!

Aaron and Josh had a lot of fun with you and Kaeley when your family came to play at our house for the Superbowl. Maybe you guys can come over again soon!

It sounds like you weren't too happy to have to go to the hospital for treatments the other day. You know that your parents love you so much and they want the best for you. So, they need to bring you to the hospital once in a while to make sure that you stay healthy. Maybe if you start to feel upset about going, you can tell your mind to be happy by thinking about something fun, like going to Disney.

Mr. Chaffee and I just brought Josh and Aaron to Disney (Magic Kingdom) this last week when Joshua had school vacation. Josh and I drove one of those race cars in the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. I know you're looking forward to doing that, too! Josh can fill you in on all the details of how much fun it is.

Hang in there! You're doing a great job and we're all so proud of how brave you are! Keep up the good work!

Love,

Peggy, Don, Josh & Aaron

Hi Nicholas. This is pretty cool being able to email you whenever I want to let you know I am thinking of you. I hear things are going well for you and that makes my heart smile. I love you and look forward to seeing you soon.

Dear Nicholas, YOU must have been the one to ask the payloader to come down our street today and make a ten-foot high pile of snow chunks in our front yard, right? At least it's good entertainment. When our son Kent was small, he would have loved to see that happen, too. Take care and enjoy cuddling up on this cold day! Hugs from us, too. Love, Ron and Becky

Hi Nicholas

My name is Lisa and my son Jake had the same cancer you have - he also was not happy, just like you were the other day, when we would go to the hospital. He LOVED to play games and that was one way we made it a fun time at the hospital. Your mom and dad love you so much and it is great to hear that you are already several months into treatment.

You are such a brave boy and please give your mom a big hug from me!

Hi Nicholas, your mommy just told me about everything that you've had to put up with lately. You are such a brave boy! I've missed coming over and playing with you and your sister, but I guess you are doing pretty well without me. So, have fun, stay brave, and when I come down I'll be sure to visit! (the fabric stores in CT are much better then the ones in MA, so you never know when that will be) I miss you!

Oh, Nicholas, Thanks for being a "good scout" in going for your treatments. Ron and I are proud of you! It's a good way to earn something from the treat box...and sometimes a pizza, too.

Tomorrow is s'posed to be The BIG Rain. If I start work on an Ark, could you and Kaeley collect the animals two-by-two? How many of the same kind of stuffy animals do you own? I have one cow, one javelina, one flying fish, one frog, and a bear. Which is good, since I am not a very ambitious ship builder!

Stay dry! And happy!! Love, Becky

Hey, buddy. I was just talking to your Dad and he told me about your guestbook. Pretty cool.

Before I left for work this morning, Brigid had her mommy put a picture of you and her in a special frame. You are definitely pretty special to her. Brigid tells me that vacation is o.k. but she misses seeing you at school.

Anyways, I hope you're enjoying your visit with your grandparents.

Hi Nicholas! Did you get lots of snow? Here in Virginia, we got so much snow that there is no school for a week! If you stand really tall and hold your hands up really high, that's how much snow we got! Congratulations on your Web page! You're a special boy! Love, Cousin Laurie

Dear Nicholas, What a positive outlook you have! We're glad you found excitement in watching the snowplows yesterday. Mr. Burr is VERY TIRED of shoveling! And I am tired of being stuck inside. When the grass turns green again, I hope to see you out playing with Kaeley. In the meantime, your web page is a wonderful way for us to stay in touch. Eat your veggies, stay well, keep making good wishes :), and God Bless your whole family. Love, Becky
