I want to make everyone aware that September is
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Signs of Childhood Cancer

Continued, unexplained weight loss

Headaches, often with early morning vomiting

Increased swelling or persistent pain in bones, joints, back, or legs

Lump or mass, especially in the abdomen, neck, chest, pelvis, or armpits

Development of excessive bruising, bleeding, or rash

Constant infections

A whitish color behind the pupil

Nausea which persists or vomiting without nausea

Constant tiredness or noticeable paleness

Eye or vision changes which occur suddenly and persist

Recurrent or persistent fevers of unknown origin

Rhabdomyosarcoma

The kind Jr. was dx. with
Rhabdomyosarcoma is a fast-growing, highly malignant soft-tissue sarcoma which arises in undifferentiated striated muscle cells. This type of cancer can occur in a variety of places in the body: the head, neck, and around the eyes; the extremities (shoulders, arms, and legs); in the pelvic region and genitourinary tract; and in the chest and lungs.
Rhabdomyosarcoma accounts for 5-8f childhood cancers and usually affects children the ages of 2 to 6 and 15 to 19.
A noticeable lump or swelling is present in many cases of rhabdomyosarcoma. Other symptoms depend on the location of the tumor.
Signs and Symptoms
lump or swelling, firm and painless to touch, in the extremities, the groin area, or the vaginal area
drooping eyelids, swelling of the eye, protruding eyeball, rapid vision changes
hoarseness, difficulty in swallowing
abdominal pain that persists for more than a week
Keep a close eye on your child for small lumps which do not disappear in a week or so, but instead keep growing larger. Especially watch the pelvic region and the arms and legs. Also watch for any changes in the eyes. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rapidly growing tumor and the sooner treatment begins, the more favorable is the prognosis
What To Do
Take your child to the doctor. If the doctor finds symptoms of a rhabdomyosarcoma, the following tests should be ordered:
biopsy of the tissue
complete blood count (CBC)
X-rays
CT scan
MRI
A biopsy is a test in which a small piece of the tissue will be removed and studied under a microscope to see if there are any cancer cells. The X-rays, CT scans, and MRI detect internal tumors.
Treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma usually includes surgery to remove the tumor, radiation, and/or chemotherapy. Survival rates depend upon the site and stage of the cancer; current statistics state a 5 year survival rate of 60verall for this type of cancer.

Hello All

Shane Jr. has been off treatment for 4 years on February 11th! Amen!

My baby boy turned 6 years old today! It was such a special day I felt blessed!

Shane Jr. is doing wonderful and blessed with good health.
February's Chest X-ray results came back clear! Thank God!

April's visit to the radiologist resulted in the usual lets wait and see game. His radiated clavicle bone is growing but at a much slower rate than his non-radiated side. His good side measrured at 99 milimeters? and his radiated side was 91. In the future he said that we may need to contact an orthopedic specialist to see what could/should/needs to be done.

It still breaks my heart to think that my baby boy can't shut the door on this forever and my need to have surgeries in the future. I just keep reminding myself that He is blessed with clear x-rays and that God is blessing Shane to be cancer free.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers and thank you for stopping in and leaving a note.

August 2008 next Chest X-ray
April 2009 next Radiolody visit

Hello everyone!

UPDATE:
Things are great with JR. He is doing fantastic growing everyday! February 11th marked 3 years off of treatment for Shane Jr! Amen!

Medical:
· We were blessed with Shane’s clear Chest X-Ray results! Thank you Jesus!
· Sadie was an angel and only had to poke Shane one time for his blood work. He was very very brave and did excellent.

· His next Chest X-Ray isn’t until August. He will be seen for follow-ups and Chest X-Ray’s every 6 months now. Slowly we are easing away from the hospital…not soon enough but I’ll take the forward progress! The doctor said that his neck and shoulder looks great but that they can see and feel a slight difference in the development of his clavicle bone on the radiated side in comparison to the other side. They check this in his Chest X-Ray as well and those results came back fine. It will be a wait and see process as Shane grows. I can’t focus on that now. I am just happy, thankful and grateful that Gob blessed him again with clear results!

· He has his yearly follow-up with the Radiologist next month…I need to change his appointment so that he won’t have to miss school for this.

· He does continue to fight every cold that floats around in his class. I can’t believe how much school he’s missed so far. The doc said that it is normal for pre-schoolers to get around 16 colds a year! We are in the running! But his blood work did come back ok. I guess it’s just normal pre-school stuff??????

Food:
· Nothing new for my little guy in the food department.
· He did however finally eat macaroni (which he likes at home) with the family at a recent Sunday dinner.

On the home front:
· His tooth that was loose did fall out and the tooth fairy brought him a Golden Dollar because the lovely hygienist told JR. that that is what she brings and that just stuck.
· He continues to be excited about his little brother (or sister as I remind him) to come. “I’m tired of waiting forever”.
· He all ready informed me that he is tired of waiting and wants it to be here all ready J

Future Plans:
· Jr is very excited about his upcoming 5th birthday!
· He would like to have a trolley party with the kids from school and his Godmother has graciously volunteered to help with a bunch of loud pre-schoolers! Thanks ne`
· He has requested to back and see Shamoo (spelling?) at Sea World. Since that would be a very expensive trip at this moment he did settle on going to Mystic again when it warms up but made sure I knew that it would only be a sea lion show and no shamoo’s.J Gota love himJ

Thanks to all that check in on my little guy and for your posts. Thank you to my two dedicated family posters Renee` & Ant Shirley~Love you guys------thanks for taking the time to read and post on my babies siteJ
Cheryl

PS Tracy Get that IM going ….we are long over due!J

Hello all
Jr's Chest X-ray in October came back as CLEAR! Amen to that. The doctor also said that his clavicle bones appear to look perfect! AMEN AGAIN!

Jr enjoyed trick or treating with the doggies...too cute.
He is doing well in school and seems to be adjusting much better. He had his first parent teacher meeting and she said that Shane is a good listener, kind, compassionate and a very good friend. He doesn't push, shove, fight and he knows how to share. She said that everyone wants to be his friend and that he used to be overwhelmed by everyone pulling him in all different directions. She said that Shane is "too perfect" and likes to see him "scooch a little when he does (very rare). I said my Shane? Yes he is sweet but he is a ball of pepper at home lol.

Well have a Very Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to the Ries house I miss catching ya on line!

Hello All

I know I know it’s about time……..Jr had a great summer swimming away at the beach with his family.
We visited Lancaster, PA in July and went to Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland. The kids had a great time and I saw soooooooooooo many cows and corn fields J

Shane Jr. is doing excellent! He started Pre-K this year. My baby boy is growing up! He did great the first day…I had to ask him for a hug and kiss goodbye…..he was too focused on the TOYS & KIDS! He has desired to have friends so bad so this is a blast for him. Mommy on the other hand isn’t transitioning well and cried her little eyes out (not where the little one could see though)

Jr. is due to go back to the doctors on October 9th for a chest x-ray follow-up. No more CT Scans! Thank God!

He is such a blessing and is just enjoying life. He plays his guitar, the DRUMS! Now oh boy! Of course there is always time for dinos, trains and cars.

He told me they learned to exert and hiss like a snake in school (translated to exhale and blow out the air while resting at “rest time” in school. He said his feet and but hurt sitting in the chairs at school…the best part of school for him is the playground! He came home today singing head shoulders knees and toes etc. how cute to hear that from a four year old.

I will try to be better at updating this a little quicker next time.

I thank you for stopping in and keeping updated on Shane Jr.
I may not update as often as I should but I do read each and every guest book entry as they are written:)

God Bless!
Cheryl

Hello All!

Shane Jr is doing wonderful!
Updates on my little man:

Enjoyed his 4th birthday on Easter Sunday.
Ate a birthday cookie for his birthday party…no cake for this one.
Ate a bowl of Apple Jacks Cereal (AKA Fruit Loops). We ran our of Fruit Loops one day and gave him Apple Jacks ---and now he won‘t eat fruit Loops for me ahh!
Ate a pepperoni & cheese sandwich!
Ate chocolate ice cream & part of a burger form a diner!

For those of you who don’t know my little one…..his taste buds haven’t been the same since chemo….his sense of smell is incredible. If he doesn’t like the consistency, look and/or smell of an item he will not eat it………and don’t you dare touch that yucky food item and then his food whoa! But this is nothing to deal with as long as he is HEALTHY. Thank God!

Shane is all signed up and ready to attend Pre-K in September! Oh boy pass the tissues..

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Jr. will return to clinic for a visit and a Chest X-Ray on June 21st.

Jr. continues to have a love for dinosaurs, trains, cars and puzzles has joined to this list….he loves to do puzzles over and over again! He is just loving life enjoying the ants, birds and water puddles outside to run through. He loves compliments, cuddles and his big sis! He has been enjoying the park and playing with all of his friendsJ

I will TRY to update more frequently next time.

I thank you for stopping in and keeping updated on Shane Jr.
I may not update as often as I should but I do read each and every guest book entry as they are written:)

God Bless!

Hello all

Yes I know I am way over due for an update here...but no news is good news...Thank God!
Christmas was blessed and I was off for the whole week! Whoo hoo!
Now I am back to work and Kayla is back to school.....Jr is trying to adjust......he told me I was leaving him home alone:(...he also told me that Kayla didn't have school anymore :).

Jr is doing fantastic! He is just loving life...full of questions...comments...solutions.....you name it.

He loves playing with his Dinosaurs, Thomas The Train, Madagascar animals, all animals :), and his DVD's :)
His favorite saying is "I tell you" or he snaps his finger next to his eye with his head turned sideways and makes a noise with the side of his mouth.. and I think he winks!... all at the same time! He still says everything and anything anywhere lol.......he is so very animated when he talks ...I just love this age he is so enjoyable................and he still loves his sis like crazy.

He goes for a CT SCAN in Feb. sometime.......I hope they call me soon to schedule...I asked for them to call me soon when he had his last appointment. Pray that he lays there as still as can be again and that they get a vein the first time around. After that Scan he will have a chest X-Ray in June and a Ct Scan in October and then another Chest X-Ray in February....Unless they change their mind again.

I thank you for stopping in and keeping updated on Shane Jr.
I may not update as often as I should but I do read each and every guestbook entry as they are written:)

Hello all

On October 6th
Shane Jr was suppose to have is CT Scan done…but after 12!! (lost count) pokes & three people...he didn't. He didn't have Emla cream on that time because they thought that the emla was restricting the veins because he is a hard stick so this time he only got
the freeze spray and his veins still blew out--blew up---collapsed---rolled
you name it ...poor thing I wanted to cry with him...he was scheduled
to go back on the 27th of OCT with emla and if no luck he would need
Anesthesia to knock him out with gas and stick him and then have the
scan...ugh! Just when we were trying to wean him off of needing the vereset and
pentobarbitol (sp) that made him sleepy to do the neck part of the
scan ---it felt like we were taking a huge step back---it felt overwhelming
because I wish it was all behind us and that he didn't have to endure any
more pricks and pokes and pain....

On Oct 27th
We went in for Shane rescheduled CT Scan with Emla on both arms and hands…we were ready. Shane and I decided that no matter what Anesthesia was not going to put him under it wasn’t an option. I called and spoke with Jeff the nurse who always does Shane’s poking for the scans. Jr. was very apprehensive this time. He was a more nervous and scared than usual. The last visit really made him afraid of needles. He got nervous at the site of them. Well unbeknownst to us all Jeff poked Shane one time in the hand and got it! Whoo hoo! And Guess what ----Jr decided to lie so still and not move and didn’t need any sedative meds at all! Yay! What a milestone thank you Jesus!

Scans came back clear yay!

At our appointment in clinic with his Oncologist she told us that they had been over scanning him (but at the 1year off treatment mark she said that he wouldn’t go to an every 6 months for scans until the 3rd year mark. What????? So now the plan is
CT Scan in Feb. marking 2 years off treatment with the help of God!
4 months later he will have a visit and a chest x-ray
4months after that a CT Scan
And those interval will occur until the 3rd year with the help of God mark and she decides otherwise

All in all all Jar is doing wonderfully he is sooooo verbal and full of questions and comments. We are currently moving and he asked if we could take the grass outside for Daisy (our dog) to use for potty! Too cute! He is still into dinosaurs, trains and his movies. He still says the cutest things. Thanks for continually checking in…I will try to update sooner than I did this time! All entries are appreciated and uplifting!
Cheryl J

He went fishing with dad last week and caught a snapper and told me the whole story from casting to the right lure!.......Boy wouldn't Poppy be proud!
He loves feeding the swans down at the boat ramp and running around the green with mom, sister and Daisy.
He goes for his next CT Scan on October 6th, please keep him in your prayers that GOD will continue to bless him with clear scans.
Thank you for stopping by and signing the guest book. All entries are appreciated and uplifting!

Hello All

Shane is doing great! He had a visit with the oncologist on the 10th and he is scheduled for his next CT Scan on October 6th. He just had his Pediatrician appointment and got caught up on his vaccines…..3 at one time! Poor baby…but he was brave and cute as can be.

He continues to grow and flourish. His personality still continues to make me smile.
His Phrases:
“I crack my self up”
“mmm mmm mmm fealicious”
“Oh baby God”

I can’t even list everything but he is a doll. He enjoyed the summer at the beach near grams. We’ve made cakes for fun; home made pizza on the grill (mmm) with just pepperoni please…he told me that he doesn’t like sauce or cheese yesterday!
Image hosted by Photobucket.comSchool is starting soon for Kayla and Jr has gotten so use to having his sister home to play with all day, he is going to be lost without her. He did tell me in Target that he is a big boy “see” as he stood tall, “mother I am ready for school” (this was his reasoning to try and talk me into buying him a book bag as well as his sister.

Thank you for stopping by and signing the guest book. All entries are appreciated and uplifting!

Hello all
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Shane continues to do well. He is still quite a character.
Let’s update his unique vocab list:
We know already that…….
Pinker= Stinker (Dad figured out that one)
Pin-a-cushion= ( Pain in the tush)
You wanna piece a me mister?= You must have your hand on your hip.
Some of this is done with the flicking of his fingers ....too cute see in the pic:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Additions:

Fealicious = Delicious
Cha-law-ket= chocolate
Twinkles= sprinkles
“OH TICKLES” = what we tell mom to say instead of darn.
Tickles= Pickles also
Fealicious was created when we were in Stop & Shop and I bought him a donut for being so well behaved. “Mmm I love Cha-law-ket Donuts, they are fe-a-licious!” “Do you want a Cha-law-ket donut with twinkles on it Kayla?” the lady at the counter said that he was so cute and should do a Dunkin Donut commercial. Of course fealicious was all I heard until we left the counter.

I was putting Shane to bed the other night and I said lets say your prayers (as I always do), but this time he said “I did already.” I said, “You did, when?” Jr. replied with: “I did say my prayers on Sat.” aghhh still the confusion of if I pray in church it must be bed time VS if I am praying at home then I am repeating my self. Well he’s only 3 we’ll work on that.
You’d be surprised to know that at church the Gospel was about non other then Donkeys and do you think they said that word ---oh no----thank God Jr didn’t pick up on it -----(as far as we know).

Cute phrase: Monday the 4th: JR: “Dad get up, it’s morning time!” ……”Dad get up the suns out”…….”Get up the sun is amazing!” …………….from a little one remember to appreciate God’s good morning to us.

Too funny and all Shane:

He came home the other day and picked up the video game controller that was on the floor. “OOO the game , I’m gonna play.” So we watched the little stinker figure out the controls to guide the dog all around the scene. Then after a bit Jr kept the dog walking around in circles near a horse……he then finally said “Idid it, I found it” (brace yourselves) Like I needed to ask…..found what JR: “HORSE POOP!” aghhhh should have known. Little back round on this new fascination……….Shane saw a horse and carriage in a church parking lot for a wedding. Ever since that when we walk through there or any where near ther Shane is on the look out for …non other that’s “HORSE POOP!” the imagination of that one.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I am sure there is more but I can’t remember right now but I will update then as they come. He really is a funny character---loving---sweet---and fresh:) and I love every bit of it and Thank God for giving me the opportunity to cherish every moment.

Thank you for stopping by and signing the guest book. All entries are appreciated and uplifting!

You wanna piece a me mister?= You must have your hand on your hip.

He is also very funny and attentive in church:
Background story: Jr & Dad are on the couch...Jr had something on his toe????? and dad said "Jesus Christ, look at this." Mom gave the lecture to dad, "don't say that in front of JR you know how he is". Dad: "I said Jesus Christ that's not a bad word." Mom: ready to debate...."he can't start nursery school and say that in class out loud"..... I won...................

Now we are in church and the priest is praying to none other than Jesus Christ......who do you think points out (loudly) to all of us that "father said a bad word" I tried to explain that one ....but to a three year old it's going no where...............then every time we said Amen Jr. said loudly "it's not time for bed"...................I then try to quietly explain that it doesn't have to be night time to say a prayer.......... One of Shane's famous phrases "All the day the night" got utilized in church during the homily of course and loudly............"all the day the night I am ready to go outside" That's my boy he is a pip................can't take him any where and not be on my toes for him to say something.......like "I smell something" or " I did pee pee".....LOUDLY

Yes he is in the process of toilet training and doing great!
1 week and all dry---knock on wood.
I thought and thought and finally came up with a bribing solution that worked. If he does potty in the potty chair he earns a little dinosaur. Which he names Chocolate (for the one that is the color of mint chocolate chip), T-Rex-------Bay-lean, Nee-ma....from the dino move and he just "loves them".... "they are my favorite"
Well I realized that Jr will go on command three times in a row to get three dinos so mom got smart and he puts a dino sticker on a chart and after five in a row he earns a dinosaur. whew----that saved me another trip to the dollar store to buy out the dino section, again. LOL.

Back to my vocal babe.....we have been taking walks at night to look for the moon for Kayla's science data collection sheet. I am trying to teach him how to cross street....look both ways....use the cross walk lights when you come to them ect........I figured I would start early because he is a little daredevil and loves to do the opposite of what's expected. We were walking and we walked by a man and Jr said"what is that man doing" I thought great time to teach him about strangers...........I said "I don't know he is a stranger and I can't talk to him to ask him, we don't talk to strangers" "he pondered that and every person that we walked by jr would say loudly "what he is a stranger?" I hoped no one got offended and responded every time that yes that's right we don't talk to strangers. He just walked along and looked at his fake watch on his hand and said yup its four o'clock the moon is out.

We have a follow-up in Aug for an office visit with the Onc. and I have to make Shanes Pedi appointment to catch up on some vaccines ugh I'll dread that day. I think we are 4 behind!
Shane is such a character and truly exploring his vocabulary oh so cute and FRESH! Our new words consist of "Spinach butt", "You wanna piece of me?" & "Peanut butter and Jelly fish head". Aghh...just makes a mother proud......what do I have 1 1/2 years to fix this for school?????? I don't know where he gets it from he only watches Disney channel or PBS or Nick for little ones???????? And I sure as anything don't go around calling my husband a "Spinach butt!" LOL Oh well at least I am blessed with this little ones wonderful unique humor.
Thanks for stopping by, please leave a message.

Hello all

Jr is doing well. He enjoyed his birthday party with his family at the end of April. He constantly asks me to go back to “Animal Kingdom” AKA Disney.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
We had to finally cut his hair on the 15th because it was very very long and curly and needed to be tamed daily! I cried---video taped it and took pictures. It was hard----you see your baby lose his hair because of this awful illness and chemo and then it is such a blessing when it grows back because it means that Jesus has cured your little one and they are growing healthy again. Kinda tugs on the heartstrings. He loves it though and shows me how to comb it.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He is so enjoying life----laughing---talking up a storm--from “you wanna piece of me“ to “I missed you mommy all the day all the night“---karate chopping, dancing, singing, running and jumping all around the house. He is a handful and I love every minute of it.
Jr has his follow-up Ct-scan on the 2nd of June. Please keep him in your prayers. I'll update after then.

Thank you for stopping by and signing the guest book. All entries are appreciated and uplifting!

Hi All,

Shane is getting ready for his M-A-W trip. He wants to see the lions, elephants, tigers......he is going fishing and catching ------a whale and a shark! Go for it! He also wants a green cake and balloons and a party! We will have to have the green caked party when we get back from Disney.

I am so excited for him. He deserves this Big Birthday Bash. His first was spent getting chemo and radiation:( He has such the sweetest little heart and the things he says and the faces he makes -----he cracks me up---I love every minute!

Shane goes to the radiologist for a follow-up on the 24th of this month and an Onc. follow-up on the 13th of April.

I heard from the M-A-W lady and the limo will have a carseat~ aghhh one less thing to worry about. They should be coming over around the end of the month and will bring all the things?????????? Wonder what they are!

Shanes MAW trip to Disney
Daisypath Ticker

Results on 2/16/05 ALL SCANS ARE CLEAR!

Results @ 4:00 PM are Neck and Chest scans look good & they haven't had a chance to look at the lung one and she will try to call me tomorrow with the rest of the results. Still waiting and praying for more good results.

Hello All

Thanks for the prayers and messages in the GB.

What a day. Well we arrived and found out that Shane will not be seen in the treatment room as he always is since our journey began. The nurses there were used to him and his favorites said that it was ok to start his IV (for Contrast Dye) in the treatment room with one of them. Less sticks-drama and it's familiar. The last two times it has been other nurses doing it....not his favorites (they are off Tues.) So today it was told to me by the secretary--so tactful- that the nurses feel that "his veins are old enough to be seen by the CT-Scan nurse". Well I was ready to cry because when Shane went for his first full body scans after dx we went to that department and they stuck him like crazy----he cried his brains out----my brain and heart were about to burst and they were old-non expressional-non friendly-non child friendly, set in their ways- nurses! (no offense and disrespect to my elders reading this). No bedside manner---bad impression-----and I'll be da**d if my baby goes through that again. So I let it be known that it will be Jeff the CT- Nurse who always sedates him and no one else in that department that will touch him. Not a prob...that was the plan anyways.....ahhhhhhhh breathing again for a moment. Then they tell me that I need to make an appointment to come back and see the onc. because she is on vacation. Then they say there are no blood slip orders to draw blood at this time------- I reminded them that he gets the blood drawn at scan time----one stick---- (today two) so they need to get a doc to order a reg CBC. ughhhhhh. He is not getting stuck a different day because they are unorganized. She knew that he was having his scan and I said whoever is covering needs to come see him as he is waking up from sedation (easier then coming back for an in clinic appointment the next day). So thank God her assistant Carolyn who always sees Shane and helps her was there and went out of her way to come squeeze in a visit with him and go over his protocol for the next year or else I would have been left hanging on what to do next. breathing again aghhhh. So needless to say (back tracking again) he was scheduled for 8:45---with an arrival time of 8:15 and ---------I received a call earlier in the week because they didn't schedule him for sedation and thank God Jeff spotted that and wanted to make sure that it wasn't correct and a mistake------so we had to arrive at 8:00 to get him in -------we didn't start the whole process till around 9:20-------------. ughhhhhhh and Jr told me he was hungry:( When I made the appointment I told them sedation----with Jeff and it was written on the orders-----in one ear out the other-and they have been there how long?

...................... so now that I might have confused you with my rambling I sit and wait for the results........................................................................................................................

Shane is 34.5 lbs ---lost weight since Nov???????
he is 38.5 inches tall---he did grow!

He is growing beautiful inside and out. I caught him one morning kissing and hugging his choo choo train----(the "mommy" one) and putting it in my work bag. He told me to take it with me to work. What a precious kind hearted thing----he is very attached to his trains. He is getting more and more conversational---and they are funny. He was very excited to give me a tiny little plant that he picked out with daddy on Valentine' Day...he tried to give me an elephant birthday card also but daddy steered him to the valentine section (he told me daddy made him put it back------between us moms I would have loved it!) He is doing well with his bedtime routine in between 7 & 8 and up at 6 am with his sis before she goes to school.
Favorite TV show is still Jo Jo's circus and Thomas the train anything on Disney playhouse or nick
Favorite book is Hot Dog and Hiccup~ every night ~ thanks Ant Shirley!
We are counting down to Shane's M-A-W trip. For those that know me I am stressing out since they don't come to see you with ALL the info until 2 weeks before you leave. Two weeks! That leaves me with only two free weekends to crazy last minute shop agh!

Shane goes back to the onc on April 13th and will be seen every two months. He will have his Ct-Scans done every 4 months with the next one being in May. Now this can all change once the Doc breezes back in and sees him in April---right before our trip! Nothing is set in stone.

Thanks to all who stop by and read and sign the guestbook. All entries are appreciated and uplifting. Thanks for the new squares on Shane's Smile Quilt! He loves looking at them.

Mini update: PRAY WITH US FOR CLEAR SCANS FOR SHANE TOMORROW THE 15TH. THANK YOU.
ALL PRAYERS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hello everyone,

Mini update:
Shane is doing well. He is now snoozing
at any time from 7:30-8:30 pm YaY!

He is in the process of potty training! He also counts to ten! I was washing dishes and I heard him at the table....5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! then I sat with him and nodded at every number and he went 1, 2 (or 1, 3,) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! I read a book once to him at night and he re-read it to me today word for word at times----even the adlib stuff that I added in to make the pictures interesting. What a joy it is to listen to my smart baby grow. I am blessed. He also is a little morning bird. He wakes up with a smile on his face jumping up and down yelling yay, it's morning! Get up it's morning time! If he asleep when I leave out for work he makes sure that he tells me that he woke up in the morning when I return home from work.
He is such a funny little man and so fun to talk to. I tell you I can't wait to see what plans God has for him as he grows. He still enjoys spending time with his big sis whom he idolizes. She however is very busy with 6th grade homework, drama club, ice skating lessons, sewing club, and catechism.....but she still finds time to squeeze in time for her little brother------and he wouldn't have it any other way!

Please keep Shane in your prayers as he goes for his 1 year Ct-Scan on Feb. 15th.
Thank you to all that read and sign Shane's guestbook, they are read daily.
I will update again after the 15th.

Cheryl & Shane Jr.

Hello all,
Happy Blizzard of 05!

Shane the kids, Daisy and I all ventured out into the snow today!

It was sooooooo windy at first. Jr wasn't too sure about staying out there at first. We had to shovel out to walk.

Dad fell in the snow & mommy made snow Angels as Kayla flipped over the railing and eventually Shane started to jump around in the snow. If only his gloves would have stay on!
So we just kept changing them. OUr plow guy still hasn't come to do the driveway and parking lot!. Oh well.

On the 18th If some of you remember My Gram, Mom, daughter and I went to New York to visit.
Yes I did hail a cab when my grandmother wasn't dodging out in front of me trying to get it first.......She even grabbed one from a young group of (Prada----Coach---nails---hair---heels--You know the type----girls. Go Gram! She was out at the corner hailing a cab and I'm trying to coax her back to the curb to be safe that I ended up getting backed into by a van! Yes I still have my legs!

We went to the empire state building and froze our butts off up there!

We warmed up in toys R Us.

Everyone had fun with lots of memories that very cold day!

Shane Jr missed us very much that day. We brought him back a favorite------a shark . He must have loved his surprise that the next day when I went shopping I came home with a bag and he thought it wasw a surprise for him and found two loaves of bread! So I said "it's just for you" and he was happy---put it away and went about his business.
Too cute!
Shane Jr is just a growing away and becoming more and more verbal.
He loves it's morning and needs to tell me that he woke up in the morning everyday!
He hates night night time but does it because it brings the morning quicker!
Look at how he has grown!

Thanks to all that stop and read and leave messages! They are read daily. Please continue to keep Shane in your thoughts and prayers. My prayers are with everyone that was touched ny this disease.

Cheryl

Hello All

I had to change the song because Shane Jr just loves this one..........as soon as I clicked on it he wrapped his arms around me and sang away to the song! Too warming to the heart.

Shane had his follow up appointment with his Onc. They said he looks great and is doing well! He is 35.2 lbs and 37.4 in height ---I think---oops forgot----but I wrote it down in his book. When I told him he was going to the doctors on Wed. he said he didn't want to go sleepy. Ugh it just kills you that he has to have those memories. I did tell him that the next appointment in Feb the 15th----a Tues. is when he will have his "sleepy" CT Scan appointment. That will be exactly 1 year and 2 days since that I found that Lump. Probably will be an emotional time......Please keep Shane in your prayers for clear scans.

Some Dates:
February 13th 2003 Lump was found
March 6th 2003 Results that My baby was DX with Rhabdomyosarcoma!
March 19th 2003 Chemo Started
February 11th 2004 Chemo was completed! Thank God

On a brighter note
Shane is doing well. He continues to talk more and more each day. His new video of the month is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He is on his second tape-----the first one Santa brought him was defective. He is very glad to have a new one now. Meme he told his doctor that you gave him his live strong bracelet. He wants to wear his green one from cure search....but it's to big.

You can click on Childhood Cancer Wristbands to buy your childhood cancer bracelets.

Ne he is looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and you can meet Ne the train!
And He always says that Ant Shir wee is feeding Sammy.

Shane loves the "snowman" that we have been getting.

He also enjoys riding his little toddler scooter around gram ee's kitchen table!

He still has that picky appetite but he has been starting to tell me when he is hungry..... and that is usually at bedtime. He plays so hard that he can't stop to eat. We have to plop him in front of the table and turn the cartoons off until he eats! Ahhhhhhh toddlerhood. He still jumps in my bed to lay near me after fighting sleep for 4 hours! Once he cuddles up he is out like a light.

I wouldn't change a thing and love every bit!

Talk to you all next update.

Please continue to keep Shane in your prayers.
We thank God for letting others find hope, strength and inspiration from Shane’s journey. God does work in mysterious ways. Please continue to pray for all the children fighting this battle.

I would also like to encourage those reading this to sign up to become a Cancer Warrior Angel or to sign up your loved one to become a Caner warrior and be angeled. I Angel a beautiful boy and have developed a great relationship with his mom and find it to be very rewarding. I feel that it is a calling from God to try and be there for others whom he has chosen to go down this path.

New pics below from Christmas!
Hello All
Merry Christmas!

We had a great Christmas, blessed with the health of Shane and the warmness of family.

Jr had so much fun, I think he was in present overload. Santa brought his favorite………..choo choo trains. My living room is a train depot now! He also named a gray smiling train the “Ne” train, after his Godmother, LOL. He also got a BIG shark to take in the tub with him......I hope there is room for him in there too! Kayla received a Build-a-Bear gift certificate, so we will head to the mall this week since I am on vacation all week.

His new phrases are “Oh No, Aye yi yi” and when he sings and stops he says “thank you, thank you very much”. Too cute.

Santa thought that my mom, gram, and daughter and I should all go to New York to see Regis and Kelly Live and do some lunch and see some sights this month! I hope we have a great time together……..me hail a cab?….Oh Boy!

We had snow here again last night. It’s been melting quickly so not too bad.

I am now being summoned to the Tv by Shane…”I wanna show you, the elephant”

Please continue to keep Shane in your prayers.

Happy Holidays

Christmas is coming Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are all of your gifts wrapped?

Shane is doing great! He doesn't have to go back to clinic until Jan. 5th and then we will make his appointment for his 1 year CT Scan in Feb. Wow! Praying for clear scans always.

Shane is finally sleeping in his big boy bed every night!!!! Yay!

Shane is just growing up so fast and talking more and more each day. He asks questions-----gives suggestions-------has OPINIONS! He is so sweet, cute, silly, polite, smart as can be, great memory and FRESH! You gotta love him! I feel so blessed that he is doing great, and I thank God everyday for that. I thank God for both of my babies. Kayla is just wonderful to him and he loves her dearly. He idolizes her and what ever she does he does......so cute. His new thing to do with her is to sing me the alphabet----he smiles the whole time and you have got to just see the proud look in his eyes as he performs for me. I finally got it on video.

He is getting ready for ho ho and wants a choo choo train. We went to his Godmothers house yesterday and he saw her tree and all of the pretty lights. Renee you did a good job! Ant Shirley-------more and more---just need the socks--he he.

Christmas eve at Grams will be fun to do presents with Jr. He can pass out the gifts and he will def. open the presents too.

He looked out the window the other day and was excited to see a big lighted tree on the green. Our plans were to put our tree up today buuuuuuuttttttttt the floor took for ever that we were re-doing. So, our plans are to put the tree up tomorrow and decorate it Mon. & Tues. It should be up and ready for you to see Renee on Thurs.

Have a very Merry and blessed Christmas. There will be a new front page picture when I return after Christmas!

Hello All Visit My Mail Stamp!

Shane's 9 month scans came back CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is what we are thankful for this Thanksgiving.... GOOD HEALTH!

Shane still weighs 34.4 lbs and is still 37 inches tall. I am waiting for the growth spurt to happen. He was also given the ok to have his chicken pox and MMR vaccines now. When he goes back to clinic the Dr said that they will draw a titer to see if the vaccine took. She said if it did then that means that his immune system is up and running well.

He goes back for an office visit in 6 weeks. The doc also said that after the year mark in Feb. he can come in for office visits every three months. Woo hoo! I don't know about the Ct Scan schedule for after the year mark.

I received a phone call from the make a wish woman and she just wanted to verify the date that I want for Shane's wish to go to Disney. Since Shane's birthday is on the 16th of April she said that we can leave on the 15th and be there for his birthday to celebrate. After spending his 1st birthday in the chemo clinic and then in radiation....mind u fasting all day, Disney would be such a blessing for him.

Shane Jr is talking up a storm and sings row row row your boat. He is counting these stackable cups right now. Yesterday he counted things with his Godmother and he kept coming up with 15. He got on the phone with her today and asked her "When are coming to play with me?" Too cute, I love it.

Well the little man is pulling on me so have a Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Hello all!

I a updating again whoa! I know it's hard to believe.
What is new......well Jr has been out and about shopping these past couple of days. He went shopping with his Godmother on Tues. evening. We were both ready to stop shopping after an hour but neither one of us said a word because we thought the other wanted to keep shopping. lol
Shane then went shopping today with his Gram favorite Aunt and sister. I heard that he was much better this time with Auntie.
On Sat. the kids were featured on our local news channel 8 WTNH for "A Mug for a mug". They won with the pic that is presently on the front page and mommy won a nice travel mug to keep my tea in for work.
Shane and I also just celebrated our 4th wedding Anniversary on the 10th. We have actually been together for 11 years this month also. Wow time flies sometimes.
Shane is talking more and more I love it....even though we are so pushing our limits to see what we can get away with on a daily basis! He is a sweet heart, I love at night when he gives you a kiss and says "I love you, sleep tight, don't let the bugs getchyou"

Shane goes back for his 9 month Ct Scan on November or 17th....but I won’t stress until then. (or at least I'll try)Please keep him in your prayers.

New Pics!
Hello all,

Finally an update, hmmmm where do I begin.
Shane received some of his missed vaccines, except the live ones. We have to wait until Nov for those. He had no Emla on and walked around for days with his Band-Aids on limping away that his poor legs hurt. He cried so hard it killed me. You get flash backs to bad hospital visits with him. It’s more upsetting than when my daughter use to get her vaccines.

Kayla is on a waiting list to see if she can get the vaccine so as not to bring it home to Jr. She always gets sick near Christmas I hope she can get it.

Shane and I will not try to get it and let those who really need it have it.

Shane is also talking away…….it’s like over night he is stringing sentences along to have a conversation with us…….too cute….I love it....he is the cutest thing and boy can he be fresh……we have been trying the timeouts and he cries and it kills me ----you know those flash backs again----but I don’t want him to be spoiled and get away with being fresh….aghhhh I just keep trudging along.

Shane goes back for his 9month Ct Scan on November 16th or 17th what ever the Tues is….but I won’t stress until then.

Shane still enjoys his cars, busses, trains, planes, fire engines, books, videos, fish, animals etc.

I also heard that he was a big help to gram this week with raking. I think gram hoped that they were raking in the same direction!

Make-A-Wish called and they granted Shane a wish and said that they had to come over and ask him to give three wishes and rank them in order of preference. I reminded her that he is 2 ½ and that wouldn’t happen. So mommy and family talked about Shane’s wish all week ….he wants to go to Disney and see all of the Disney playhouse characters, the Pooh family, animal kingdom and Sea world….Or as Shane says it “Disney, Mickey Mouse, Jo Jo (the clown), elephant (which he pronounces so cute-eh-hu-hent, & train”. The ladies came over and as soon as I opened the door he said Jo Jo. They never heard him and I found out later that they didn’t know who Jo Jo was. They agreed to put Disney down as the wish------Shane did show them a picture of Jo Jo and Mickey that he was coloring, plus I told them that he did say Jo Jo so quick that they didn’t get it at first. I hope that his wish is granted and for the week we selected. He loves Disney online and channel, he love watching animal planet and he loved mystic and the online aquarium, so Disney would be perfect for him. We want to go the week of the 18th in April because that is right after his third birthday and after spending his first birthday in the chemo clinic and in radiation he deserves a really fun birthday to celebrate his life. We thank God for the opportunity to do that.

We also thank God for letting others find hope, strength and inspiration from Shane’s journey. God does work in mysterious ways. Please continue to pray for all the children fighting this battle.

I would also like to encourage those reading this to sign up to become a Cancer Warrior Angel or to sign up your loved one to become a Caner warrior and be angeled. I will be back again to update…..sooner hopefully than last time but def. In Nov after the scans.

Hello everyone

Shane went to the pediatrician last week and got 4 vaccines :( He had an awful time.....he cried his little eyes out. I should have put Emla on him. Sister didn't do well either...she was such a nervous wreck over her finger stick and her vaccines that her blood pressure went sky high...and I have to monitor it for a week to be sure that nothing is wrong..................aghhhhhhhhhhhh does the stress for you babies ever go away??????????????? I don't think so.

Shane went to the Oncologist today and weighs 34.2 lbs and is 37 inches tall. He has 6 more lbs to go until he is 40 lbs and doesn't need a car seat on the plane.....speaking of the air plane we spoke with the social worker today and she put the call in to Make a Wish for Shane's Disney trip in April for his 3rd birthday! I found out that they come out to your house to visit and Shane needs to say Disney. That should be fun to get my, ask me and I don't respond on demand because I'm independent, little man! As long as he can go to Animal Kingdom & Seaworld & The Disney Playhouse he will be in his glory. Anyone reading this that has had experience or tips with Make-a-Wish please leave a note. Thanks!

Shane is in to Animal Planet again orangutans, elephants, you name it and anything on sharks. We have been watching Monterey Bay Aquarium's Live shark cam on the computer.
He keeps trying to take his stuffed animal shark and put it in water. He took the little plastic step stool's lid off and put the shark in it and tried to pour his sippy cup of water on it. lol He is determined. He still walks around wearing his firemans hat...on backwards of course. He is encouraged by his uncle ..the volunteer fireman & his poppy was a fireman...who knows.....maybe he will fight the fires that the orangutans and sharks are in danger of!!!!! Anything is possible. He is presently standing next to me in my sneakers and his firemans hat on (backwards) asking me is he can take the dog potty outside. He is a character. Gotta love him:)

To all who take the time to stop in and read about Shane, it means a great deal to us. We love reading each and every message, please continue them.

Hello everyone
***************************new pics in the album************************
I haven't updated in a while, I know...I know...sorry.
Let's see......... Jr is becoming very verbal. He is such a funny and cute little man to talk to. He still loves cars, busses, fire trucks & choo choos and his car, truck, bus & choo choo books. There is no favorite video of the month this month can you believe it!? He pretty much watches whatever is on Disney, Nickelodeon or animal planet or any random tape.

We still haven't changed our menu much ........I'm waiting for that one.

Shane is adjusting to His big going off to the 6th grade! and leaving him all alone for the day....he was lost in the beginning. He is a "where ever she goes he goes" type of brother. Middle school demands drove me nuts this year.....I bought all school supplies in June thinking that I would be on top of things and after she started school I had to go to Walmart 4 more times to get the supplies that she really needed aghhhhhhh.

Shane still likes to walk around occasionally with his fireman hat or as he says "fire truck hat" on backwards.

Shane goes to the pediatrician next week and to the onc next week also......we need to find out what vaccines he can have. She was suppose to call the pediatrician "as soon as I leave this room" and that never happened....expected. So I will be back then to update........and yes Ant Shirley you did look "cool" on the motorcycle. Thats the end of your update Godmother.

to all who take the time to stop in and read about Shane, it means a great deal to us. We love reading each and every message, please continue them. I'll be back in September, any questions please feel free to email me.

Hello Everyone,

Shane Jr. had his 6 month Ct Scan today and it's all clear!!!

Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!! For keeping Shane cancer free!!!!!

Shane is enjoying his summer, going to the beach with "gramma, gram, Kay and Shu", Mystic aquarium, soon to be a trip to Lake Compounce to ride the train and go in the big pool, playing with his Thomas The Train set, sleeping over grams, and playing with his big who he loves so very much!!!!!

Shane will go back for an office appointment September , in 6 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks. He now weighs 32.7 lbs and is 36 inches tall, but i think he is a little taller than that.....he wouldn't put his feet straight or move them when the nurse asked.......he was grouchy from no breakfast and knew that a boo boo was going to happen this time (IV for the CT Scan).

to all who take the time to stop in and read about Shane, it means a great deal to us. We love reading each and every message, please continue them. I'll be back in September, any questions please feel free to email me.

Hello everyone!

Shane had his checkup with his onc. On Wed. and did well. 32lbs. He is scheduled to have his CT scan on Aug.

Shane is doing well, he is still a peppy, peppy 2 yr old.The new Video for the month is Thomas the Train. 24/7. He has it down to a tee now. He is also talking a lot more every day. He is so outgoing and friendly to all he meets…………..I still think should try him out as a child actor! Hahaha! He loves to sing now to the SAME tape in the car over and over again, but at least he sounds cute doing it. Maybe he'll be on the next :) lol. He is so particular he might be the next surgeon or something else very detailed and precise.

I'll be back after the 17th appointment.

I would like to thank all of you that stop by and read Shane's site. I thank all of you that leave messages....it's great to hear from you. I read them daily.

Please keep Shane and all of the other children fighting monster in your prayers. Thank -you.

Hello everyone!

Shane had his checkup with his onc. On Wed. and did well. He is 35.5 inches tall, and 31lbs 3 oz. He is scheduled to have his CT scan on Aug. and his next onc appointment is on July

Shane is doing well; he is a peppy, peppy 2 yr old. Along with busses he now loves fire trucks. He wore his fire hat to the onc on Wed. sooooooo cute! The new Video for the month is Elmo visit’s the Firehouse. He has it down to a tee now. He is also talking a lot more every day. He is so outgoing and friendly to all he meets…………..I should try him out as a child actor! Hahaha! He loves going outside to play all of the time now since the weather has been warm. I’m ready to take him to the beach and see what he does. Very adventurous and no fear…….bad combo?!? He loves reading his animal books and his truck book………….......the best book purchases ever from T J Maxx. He is still a picky, finicky eater. He refuses to try anything-new aghhhhhhhhh. Hot dogs, grill cheese, egg & cheese sandwich, vanilla pudding, cheese doodles, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, candy corn, lolli pops, pepperoni pizza, popcorn, and toast. That’s it! Is that a lot? I don’t think so??????????? Thank God he takes his vitamins (after I crush it and mix it with water and squirt it into his mouth!) Lol.

There are new pics

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths......Proverb 3:5

Hello all,

Shane had his CT scan Tues. and the results on his neck were good but the tech thought that he saw something on his lungs---not relapse---but an infection---the onc assistant said that the onc. told the tech that I said that Shane had a chest cold with a bad cough last week ----then the tech said ok that makes sense. So he doesn't need a scan until Aug.. as routine. I was concerned and driving myself crazy by thinking too into it.........am I just suppose to relax an expect these things to happen?????? The fear just never goes away....... sooooooooo..I called the onc. back the next day to verify what her assistant told me Tues....she said that it's not relapse that it was a "blur" and that the tech said it looked like an infection of some sort.......then the onc. told him Shane had a chest cold and he said that that explained the infection he saw----the onc. said that he doesn't need another scan until the scheduled time in Aug. -----I guess I have to believe
in them that there is nothing to worry about (tough though)......they have been overly cautious in the past when they suspected something......in July Shane had a ct scan done (to check for a yeast infection anywhere else other than in his line) and they swore they saw a swollen lymph node between the pulmonary artery and the esophagus.....now Shane had a line infec. in May and in June and a yeast infec. in his line in July--------------so I felt
that the lymph node was swollen due to the reoccurring infections but they said that it was to risky to go on that and that the team met and wanted to be cautious and they did an open chest-Thoracic surgery on him--(my poor baby was 15 months old). Thank God they found nothing on the biopsies of all of the lymph nodes that they took out sooooooooooo I guess I just need to remember that these things come with the territory.......
thanks for reading----sorry for the long novel:)

Shane is doing well He is thriving and full of some major energy. He now discovered that his markers (thanks to me) can make pictures instead of just lines..sooo....I made a picture of a school bus and 20 school buses later is how we spent last night :) I'll be a regular artist before long:)..............Shane's new movie of the week is Cat & Dog---or should I say cat & Daisies (our labs name). He is starting to speak a little more each day----------most of the words are in mommy language and if you don't see him everyday you might not get it at first:)...........I have been on the hunt for match box buses ---they are part of the Hero City collection buttttttttt very hard to find. Shane does have 3 yellow and 1 red one but they get lost daily and they are his favorites....he goes no where without at least one of them. I did find another small match box school bus in the Blues Clue collection so yes mommy spoiled him and bought it-----I figured he deserved it after being poked in the arm and his hand on Tues to start the IV and having to take that yucky med to make him sleep during the CT Scan that he deserved it..................what can I do :)
I would like to thank all of you that stop by and read Shane's site. I thank all of you that leave messages....it's great to hear from you. I read them daily.
Our next office visit is on June 16. I will be back then.
Please keep Shane and all of the other children fighting monster in your prayers. Thank -you.

Sunday, May 2nd 2004, 12:40 pm EST

Hello Everyone,

Shane is doing beautiful! He is such an active (and thats putting it nicely) 2 year-old. He is running jumping and on the go all day long!!!! He likes to play with his "chee chee" Thomas the Train set......Great toy, it keeps him busy for a while.
We are into the little peoples video "Things that Move" ( all about cars and busses). That gets played over and over again! He also likes the old time favorite Mary Poppins. That movie was my daughters favorite when she was younger---she watched it so much that the tape broke in the middle of the movie----I have to get jr one of his own.
He is eatting a little more of a variety than from the hot dog days...but he still is very stubborn about trying new foods.....he eats an egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast......vanilla pudding throughout the day.....hot dog for dinner or lunch......and a grill cheese for dinner or lunch.....of course there is always room for cheese doodles and vanilla wafer cookies.....we are now into lollipops which make us sticky from head to toe!!!
Thank you to those you gave me vitamin suggestions. I finally found away to get them in him!!! I take a Flintstone vitamin and crush it in-between two spoons and then I pour it into a syringe (like the hospitals use to give them tylenol or other nasty meds......I think "Safety First" makes them....you can buy it in any local store) and add water to it----shake----squirt and YAY!!! it's in........now thank God he takes meds pretty good. His sister would have gagged before it even entered her mouth-----she hated taking any med that was a nightmare.
I feel much better knowing that he is getting his vitamins now, knowing that he doesn't eat his fruits and veggies.

We recently attended a walk for The Chain Fund to help support this new organization. I am now in the process of trying to raise money and create a team to walk for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life walk that will be in Hamden, CT on June 26th-27th. It's a 24 hour event but I am very excited about it.

I ask for you all to keep Shane in your prayers as his 3 month scans are to be taken on May 18th. I'm trying not to rack my nerves ....at least until the 17th...............

Thanks to all who post and to those that stop by and read....please leave a message....we check his site daily.....Please keep all of the other children that are fighting this monster in your prayers also....

I'll be back when I get the results of his scan.
Cheryl
Just keep simming..............

Hello all

******************************************************************************************************************* Shane had his visit with the radiologist and he wants to see Shane every year for a long time. He thinks that there will be definite growth problems with his clavicle bone and his muscle... how much how bad ?....unknown. He said he may need reconstructive surgery years down as he really grows.....if necessary....... So I pray for God to lay his healing hands on Shane and stun them all with no growth problems.......but I would rather deal with reconstructive surgery knowing that my baby is cancer free............. Next Wed. is the Pedi Doc appointment.........talk to you then
*******************************************************************************************************

Shane is doing well now. He just got over a buggy of some sort. He had a 102.7 temp and we were ready to go to the ER ….what a knot in the belly and then it was a nice sigh to realize that he doesn’t have a port in anymore……..we just had to call his regular Pedi Doc……………………….that felt funny also, I haven’t had to call then for Shane since I found his lump in 2/03. All in all he had no ear infec. just something viral.

He is so full of pepper…..man I thought he was hyper before! “oh jee” is know the correct term for water to all those out there unsure of that & “Boo gus” means school bus. I love it too cute!

He has a radiation follow up on Thurs. to discuss how often he wants to monitor any changes that may occur in his growing arm and neck from the radiation. I pray that God touched him with his healing hands and he will shock the Docs and have no ill effects from the radiation.......but all in all I am just glad that God is delivering clear scans and I continue to pray for them. and for all of our brother and sisters that are out there fighting this monster!

I’ll be back after thurs to fill you in…….

Thanks for popping in, Leave one
Cheryl

Just keep swimming.................

Hello all

We had our first monthly check up in clinic on Wed.
Next Ct scan is in .
Radiation follow up is on the 25th.
Pedi well baby visit is on the 31st. We need a good vitamin idea thats not chewable and is liquid and not yucky.

Shane is doing great playing wild as ever, port site is healing well and he is 29lbs 3 oz.! :) He is starting to get out of his breakfast lunch and dinner hot dog kick.:) Thank God. But what to feed him now???????????? so picky:)
His oncologist Doc was flipping out at the hot dog kick "What ever you cook is what he should eat, he won't starve himself, he'll eat." Let's just say she made me flip. Maybe that works in her world but this is a 22 month old not my 10 year old and he just had almost a year of chemo! Give his taste buds a break! Which she think shouldn't be effecting his eating now, she also didn't think he would be nauseous from his first actino dose!!!!!

Don't get me wrong she’s a Great Oncologist --knows her job..................but not a pediatrician! and I don't click with her bedside manner. I do thank God that he sent her to us to treat my baby.

For the mean time we are going to just enjoy life and try to see if we can gain some normality back.........if that is at all possible.........I kind of think once a family in the cancer world ...always a family in the cancer world.....As long as Shane is happy and enjoys life we will worry for him. Continued prayers are asked for Shane and all of the other children fighting this monster.

Thank you to those who kept Shane in your prayers and thanks to those that pop in here and leave messages.

Just keep swimming.................

HELLO EVERYONE!!!!!!!! LAST CHEMO DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are 28.4 for weight. Counts are great. Ct Scan will be on Feb. 17th. Please Pray for clear scans. After that he will have his port out. No dates yet. Follow up visit will be March 10th. He will have his blood drawn on Ct day and on surgery day and then not until the next CT day, since his counts have never bottomed out........THANK GOD FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to call the radiologist to find out what kind of follow up he wants to do with Shane, to monitor his growing toddler arm. I pray that there will be no awful side effects from the radiation that he had. He can now see his pediatrician for well baby check ups, but no vaccines for at least 6 months. He needs to stay on the precautionary Bactrim for the next 6 months also.

Today he was a wild man in clinic. He didn’t sit there and play nice with the garage with his car cars, he wanted to walk around, play on the computer and put his new cars that they gave him all over it. He walked me out of the treatment room to walk all over the place. He played with the bubbles from the clown. He also spun in circles, you know the way we did as kids until your so dizzy that you dropped to the floor......doesn't feel the same landing on a hospital floor........He was given cars and a balloon and a barney toy and hugs for our last day of chemo.

Thank you for stopping in I will update on the 18th when I hopefully will have his Ct results. Please pray for clear scans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all,

Ok let's see---------------I called the Nurse in charge of Shane when he gets his sleepy med and he got us in for his CT Scan on the 17th of Feb. as the first one. He told us that the person who told us that they couldn't get us in early (even though he will be NPO) had no authority to do so and got in trouble with their supervisor sooooo ONE FOR THE MOM!!!!!...It pays to be persistent.

Shane had his last Vincristine to day !!!!!!!!!! Yay next week will be his last Actino.

He weighed 28 lbs 2 oz. He was a ham of course:) and played with his car cars. He is so into them now---he even sleeps with them.:)

We went to the mall today after chemo and Shane ate a whole pretzel by himself. We were on the second floor and Shane was peeking down and kept saying "Daisy Daisy". He spotted the pet store. I asked him if he wanted to go see the dogs and he nodded away. He loved all of the "Daisys" especially the one that really looked like Daisy. I told him "look with your eyes not your hands", so he walked around with his hands on his cheeks:) too cute......and when it was time to go I said to say bye to the doggies and he waved to each one:) gotta love him. It was great to see him enjoy his day with the just the littlest things.

We also found out that Shane will be able to go to Disney by the Make a Wish Foundation!!!!!!!!!! It will be great to see Shane enjoy himself with no yucky meds, tests, needle pokes and surgeries. Nothing but fun fun fun:)
We are looking into possibly next April -------a 3rd b-day celebration.

Take care-----------prepare for the next snowstorm to roll in.

See ya here next week, with the help of God, after our last yucky chemo day!!

Many thanks to all of you who have posted.
Cheryl

Hello all,

We made it to chemo today----not as much snow as they originally predicted. Shane is now 28 lbs 6 oz!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!! He didn't eat well till Monday and he gained:)

Shane is getting a little irritated with going to chemo now. He shook his head no when I told him where we were going this morning :( He also cried a little before the needle even went in his port. We normally would be almost near our two week break----funny how he just knows he needs a break--------but THANK GOD THIS TIME WITH THE HELP OF GOD WE WILL BE DONE AFTER 2!!!!!!!!! MORE CHEMOS!!!!!!!!!!

Shane played with his "car cars"---the clowns popped in but were really quick today----and blew bubbles for him then they left and Shane gave his regular statement "where go" :)

I asked the Doc if she made the new CT Scan appointment and she said that she forgot. So I then reminded her that I wanted the earliest appointment. I got 9:30 not happy with that. His last Ct Scan was at 10 am and that was awful, he was sooooooo hungry and pointed to the fridge and the bottles and his food. Here I was the bad guy telling him no that he can't eat. Sooooooooooo I told the Doc that I didnt't want him to starve that long and that I wanted it to be earlier. Well her response to me was "I don't think he'll starve." He can have popscicles and apple juice 2 hours before. Well I told them as I have in the past that my son doesn't like any kind of juice. He drinks water and his milk ---thats it! I also informed her that he tries to get his bottle and milk and food etc....... I mean am I over reacting???? I feel that my poor baby had to starve every day for about 4+ weeks to receive radiation at 2pm and has to deal with needles and toxic drugs and many surgeries that can't this one time I have a little control over the situation and not make him suffer any longer in a day than he has to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok now that I got that out ----- I came home and called the nurse that works with giving him his sleepy med on the CT days and he will talk to the scheduling lady to see if they have an earlier appointment (which I was told that they have someone booked already ---this is a last minute booking---not my fault--- whole other issue------------)I also found out that he works on Thurs. so we have Tues and Thurs to play with -------but I feel that they are going to have to accommodate Shane because I'm only going to go when it is early!!!!!!!!!!!! ok enough said ---thanks for listening to the venting.

On the bright side I am trying to plan a nice little "No more chemo party/2nd Birthday party for Shane in April since he was going through radiation on his first B-day and he was very sleepy---poor thing. Any suggestions????

Well take care see ya next week. Thanks for caring enough to stop by and leave messages---they are very much appreciated.

Stay warm:) Cheryl

Hello all,

Shane had his yucky med today:( He lost a tiny bit of weight--he is 27lbs 9oz. 3 more chemos to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He will not be having his CT Scan in March now because the Doc wants it to be right after chemo---not a month after-------so she will call them. I reminded her to tell them to give me the earliest appointment that they have since he will be NPO. I told her that they didn't give him an earlier one last time even though she wrote the request for it.

Shane played with his cars the 2 1/2 hours that we waited for his meds. He saw the clown today who always remembers to blow bubbles for him. When he walked away Shane kept saying "where bubbles go?" with his hands up in the air-----he is so cute learning how to talk. Everything is "where go?" I frosted a cake this weekend and he watched so earnestly and kept saying, "where go?" I'd turn the unfrosted cake around and he would say, "There it is!"--this continued until the cake was frosted:)

Daddy couldn't come today he had to stay home with Big Sis who is sick----fever & the GI bug--------not cool-------so she had to be shipped over to grams because Shane's ANC has him at low risk and with today’s yucky med he'll be lower this week. I can only spray so much Lysol. This is the kid that finds the germs----I caught him the other day taking away Daisy (our yellow labs) toy rope and swinging it around in his own mouth! aghhhh wheres the camera when u need it.:)

Our new food is pepridge farm cinnamon toast & we are all stocked up with cheese doodles for the next couple of days that he is nauseous.

Well I'm going to go give him his zofran and get ready for his godmother to come and visit him---------it's bath time tonight too!!!!! He already told me no!:)

Talk to you next week. Stay warm
Cheryl

Hello all,

I'm late with the entry this week. I have been lucky enough to have the lovely GI bug! ughhhhh fever---aches----nausea----and other lovely things---etc. Needless to say this started Sun so poor Shane had to be shipped off to Grams so that he wouldn't get whatever it was that was cooking for me. He came home tues night so that he could go to chemo on Wed. Shane did end up having a temperature all day on Tues! So great that had my mind going through the what ifs that u do------*I hope the temp doesn’t get to high that we have to go get a culture done (even though I know its because of my bug and not a line infec.)-------*then I had the flash back of the round the clock antibiotic he would be put on. Then I thought ----*but we are almost done only five more chemos to go aghhhhhhhh!!!!!! ---I said god please make that temp go away and we woke up on Wed. and wa la no more temp---thank god. I on the other hand was still weak as anything ---I couldn’t even sit up so I couldn’t go to clinic:( Its the first one that I missed) it drove me nuts and lil Shane was pushing and pulling me as daddy tried to coax him to the door. So what a mean mommy I was this week----shipped him off for a couple of days and stayed home on clinic day. Daddy did survive because "I know how to do it I watch you every week!" Well he is 12.8 kg because daddy thought I always new what that meant in pounds!:) --luv him--He didn’t bring his counts home from clinic because he asked for this weeks, which were of course not ready yet instead of last weeks, but Shane Shane came home happy as anything hugging and "daddy" "daddy" ing it up. I know Dad did well I was just mad that I wasn’t there:(
His end of chemo CT Scan is scheduled for March 9th. They gave me a 10:45 appointment and I called them and said I want the earliest one that you have because he has to fast so that he can have the sleepy meds----so its at 8:45---thats the earliest that they start.

Well I'm off to rest see ya next week.......Thank you for popping in and posting:)
keep warm its brrrrrrr cold out there

Wednesday, January 7, 2004 9:53 AM CST

Hello everyone,

We were in and out of clinic quick today!!!! It was a zoo there too. Shane was very nauseous last week from his yuck med and only wanted cheese doodles. He started to feel better by the weekend. I know he was feeling great when he started to jump and throw himself all over the living room and me. He also started to run his laps around the house-- he is a ball of pepper, that one.

Shane Jr some how gained again. He is 28 lbs 2oz. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet it was all of that eating he did at my Grams house:)

Well Doc said that we are getting close to the end and that they are going to schedule his end of chemo scan. I insisted that whoever schedules it to make it early in the am. I refuse to go any later and have him starve all day. He has to fast because he needs to be given meds to make him sleep during the scan. He has to be perfectly still for the neck portion of the scan.

He will also have to be scheduled to have his port removed! Yay!

I does make me nervous knowing that he has to then be poked every time for blood work, and for the dye contrast for the scans. That was the only nice part about the port. I wonder if I could numb him some how like I do for his port site? Any suggestions out there????????

Well time to run. Thanks for popping in and a big thanks to those that sent me a post---keep em coming:) See ya next week after chemo.

Cheryl

Hello All,

I hope everyone had a great xmas.
Santa brought Shane many many "car cars" & many many videos to give Momma a break from watching the same....video....over and over. My living room looks like a Nascar/Monster truck scene. Kayla received new CD's this xmas so in the mist of our demolition living room ...she's bopping around singing her heart out.....but I love them and the mess

Shane had his yucky chemo today so cheese doodles will be on the menu this week.

He ate like a bird this week and still weighed in at ..............27 lbs 8 oz. I don't know what it is...the one egg sandwich or one hot dog a day must be doing it????????????? However it occurred I'm very happy !!!!

I can't wait for all of this to be over for my little man....kills me to allow them to put the toxic medicine into that sweet little body.......but its Gods will he is working through him .....to bring others closer to God I like to think......I sense he will touch many throughout his life.................................

To those that pop in and leave messages I thank you, they are very much appreciated............to those that pop in an just get the update I thank you also.....feel free to leave one :)

I wish everyone a Happy and HEALTHY New Year!!!!!!

I'll update you next year!

12/23/03 Hello Shane weighs 27 lbs 5 oz. He had his non-yucky med today. We went to clinic after 3:30pm and we were in and out. Shane didn't want to leave because he didn't have anytime to play with the car cars there.

I hope you all enjoy your tree and the snow (if it comes)
enjoy your giftsfrom santa and your family
but don't forget the real meaning of Christmas
I wish you all a happy and HEALTHY New Year!
Cheryl, Shane, Kayla & Shane Jr.

Hello all, 12/17/03

Shane weighed in at ...........27 lbs 5 3/4 oz. YAY!!!!!! He aslo grew to 33 3/4 inches tall. He ate nothing all week but 1 egg-sandwich a day and of course those cheese doodles. He will attend clinic on Tuesday next week due to them wanting the day off I think .......but if they are seeing kids for transfusions then I can come in. If I have to go Tuesday it'll be after I get out of work. It should be quick because it is only the non-yucky med. I hate the slightest changes-----love consistency.

I hope all are done shopping and if you dont have your tree up yet..forget it! You will be the only one with a clean floor....no pine neddles stuck in your hair or vacuum...none to be found in June when spring cleaning.....no oops I watered the floor instead of the tree .......and no bumps and bruises that come with the packing ----unpacking and pulling and tugging of the "christmas totes" to and from your attic or basement......the trash men will love you.......the neighborhood dogs won't come visit you......it won't sit out side waiting for the trash men and fall over into your driveway on that bad snowing icy "I'm late for work day".....................the best* NO CHRISTMAS LIGHTS TO UNTANGLE AGHHHHHGHGHGH!!!! tis the season:).......

see there is always a bright side to everything.

Take care see ya here next week Tues or Wed ?????????????

Wednesday, December 10, 2003 3:20 PM CST

Hello everyone,

Ok we went back to clinic today and in between playing with the "car cars" and Shane calling his nurse for his personal attention--we have good news. Weight.... drum roll please ................27lbs. 2 oz. Yay!!!!!! Moving on up. He is 34 inches long also. I guess it was all of the hot dogs he ate one week. He is now on a vanilla pudding kick----4 in one day--- as meals. I need to get back over to BJ's and buy some more. Once I do that he will probably be on a new food kick. We haven't liked peanut butter sandwiches in a loong time. Oh well that's a toddler for you. For those that didn't read the earlier post.....Shane's CT Scan came back all clear some good news!

I hope every one had a great Turkey day. We have our tree up and most our gifts bought. Now everyone else needs to get going on putting that tree up----shopping and wrapping......times ticking.....see you all next Wed.

Cheryl

P.S. Thanks for the posts from all. If I don't get to thank you via your email or Website, please know that I am thankful for all of your thoughts and prayers.

CT SCAN CAME BACK WITH NOTHING AT ALL SHOWING!!!
I'LL BE BACK HERE WED. WHEN WE GO TO CLINIC!

Hello all,

Ok we went to clinic and we were only 1 of three patients there and it took us three hours!!! The lab machine was broken so the labs had to go up stairs for results blah blah blah.:) Lil Shane of course played with "car cars" for the entire three hours!!!!! They also wanted Shane's picture today. The Tommy fund wanted to take his picture to use in upcoming fund raiser flyers and brochures. And his picture was also taken to be used in a slide presentation on getting children with cancer back into the classroom. What a ham I had on my hands today. Big sis had no school today so she joined us and after the (fun was over) she zonked out in a treatment chair zzz :)

He lost a little weight again. We are at 26lbs 3oz. Time to fatten him up over the holidays. We are getting him pizza tonight before the nausea kicks in (it was yucky chemo day). Any suggestions on what I could offer my picky little eater???????????

Ok news on the CT Scan, finally, I've only been asking the doctor for the past 2 weeks about it and she kept saying no no no ----not needed................ well he is schedualed for a Ct Scan on 12/2 at 10 am. That is the week we are on a break from chemo buuuuuuut we still have to make a trip there. It is a Tues. so I'm going to have to ask work if I can Have Tuesday off and come in on Wed. instead..........and............it's also on Daddy's Birthday:( Well a good resulting scan will be the greatest presant for him!!!!!!! This is just to check the area and he will have another when we are done with chemo. when we go back on the 10th of Dec. We will be in cycle 4 YAY!!!! with the help of God that will be our last chemo cycle!!!!!

Well stay tuned for the update on the 2nd of Dec.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Wednesday, November 12, 2003 3:11 PM CST

Hello everyone!!!!!!!!

Let's see Shane is 26lbs 5 oz. lost a little.
He stood up on the "BIG BOY SCALE" today:)

He has a little cold that started on Sun. and that would be why He only wants cheese doodles!!!!!!

Today was his last Vincristine in cycle 3--next week he has his Actino and then we get a two-week break. Yay!!!!!!!!

Shane let the clown at the hospital come up to him touch him and play. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! what progress.:)

We are getting ready for Christmas ---he is one and already pointing out "car cars" in the flyers that he wants!!!!!
Watch out Santa!!!!!!!!!

See ya Next Week!

Wednesday, November 5, 2003 2:29 PM CST

Hello Everyone!

Another week down! Shane lived off of cheese doodles this week and the big no no food HOTDOGS!!!! My luck Shane would only have the stomach for the biggest choking food out there. Despite his nausea from last week’s chemo he gained weight. 26lbs 12 1/4 oz!!!!!! Yay. We were in and out of clinic today. I asked them when is he due for a CT SCAN of his neck area. He had one done when we had the scan for his infection, (she said this would count as the follow-up one since radiation), in the summer. THE Doc said at that time that the area was still inflamed from radiation and that he might need another one down the road. Well down the road we are and I asked if he needs one and when. She doesn't think he needs one till the end of treatment. She said she'd do one if I want one but she will get back to me next week????????
Let's hope that he doesn't need one till then, because my little man will not lay still and will need to be under anesthesia. Sooooooooooooo until next week!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, October 29, 2003 11:59 AM CST

Hello Everyone!

Shane Jr is doing great!!!! Thank God! He got his yucky chemo today so the rest of the week he'll feel gross. I gave him two pancakes while in clinic so at least I know I got something in him today. His counts look great. He is 26lbs 71/4 oz. He lost a couple of ounces but hey not bad. He received his flu shot today, after taking the Emla cream off of him 2x:) He took it like a brave little boy. His next half is in a month. Sis is done too, now Mom and Dad need to get theirs next week.

He was soooo full of pepper today. "Bubbles" and "Bye-Bye" "car car (of course) & "Debbie" (his favorite nurse)were is favorite words of the day--I'm telling ya pretty soon he'll be yapping like his big sis:). Till next week...Me

Thanks for all of the posts! keep em coming:)

Wednesday, October 22, 2003 2:05 PM CDT

Hello Everyone,

Today was the quickest clinic day ever! In at 9:40 out at 10:30!!!!!!!!! That is because we didn't have to wait for his blood work today to give the V med, due to his adventures with the port last week:)

....And he gained weight again----26lbs 10oz.!!!!!!! Must be Grandmas grill cheese:)They also sprung on us that he needs a flu shot (2). They wanted to do it today--but Mom didn't like that she couldn't mentally prepare for a screaming child in pain---- he's had enough of that! Soooo the kind Docs agreed that he can get it next week, with Emla on (what a blessing for Emla (I hope it works)). They didn't want us to wait the hour it would take for it to kick in----since they were on a record for getting us out quick.

Shane is as active as ever."caaaaar caaaar" is still the best thing in the world along with Barney and Bear in the big blue house" aaaaaagggggghhhhh you can never watch those videos enough! :)

Thank you for your posts they brighten up the week. Until next Wed.............................Me

Hello Everyone,

We had a very eventful chemo day. 1st Shane was accessed (a needle put in his port, under the skin on his chest) s usual. This week we had to wait in a room instead of the treatment area as usual. Well lil Shane doesn't like to stay in the room so he runs around the halls and enters every area possible........so while running boom!!!! Flat on his chest.... This of course bent the needle and when we checked it it leaked..........so out it came and more emla (numbing cream) had to be put on..............then Houdini pulled that off in mid run soo..........more emla had to be put on and the nurse and I agreed no more waiting in a room he sits and plays with cars in the treatment area...(much safer). The Doc agreed that on the weeks he gets the non-yucky med he can get accessed and given the med right away so that the port can be taken out..quick-quick........

Other than that he lost just a smidge 26lbs 3 1/2 oz. Not bad though still good & he grew a 1/4-inch.

Gotta run now
Take care and see ya back here next Wed.
Me

Wednesday, October 8, 2003 3:17 PM CDT

Hello there, Anyone reading this???????????? :)
Well we are at a whopping 26lbs 7 1/4 oz. Yay!!! It must be that weekly serving of pizza:) We had the yucky medicine today. Counts are great. We don't get a break until Thanksgiving I think. Well drop a line and I'll be back next Wed.

See ya! Me

Wednesday, October 1, 2003 9:12 PM CDT

Still peppy, and active. Animal Planet and "caaaars" are his favorite.:)

Gotta run he's making a train with little cereal boxes:) Until next Wed.

Wednesday, September 24, 2003 4:21 PM CDT

Hello All,

Today was chemo day. I don't know how he did it but he weighs 25lbs 5.5 oz. Yay!!! He ate nothing all week but did it. It went up and that's all that counts. He was a little ham as usual and flirted away with the Docs and nurses. He had a busy weekend, he went to the Touch-A-Truck event and saw CAAAAARS, trucks, fire engines etc. He had a ball. This weekend is the Tommy fund walk. For all that are going we will see you there on Sunday!!!
I'll be back here next Wed. as usual. for those that stop in and read thanks and drop us a line. Bye for now-------the little one is climbing the furniture again:)

Hello Everyone, we are back.

Today was the start of Phase 3 ooooooo, one more to go. Well, we upped the not so yucky med, soooo we need to make sure there are no belly ache situations if you know what I mean:). He is 25lbs 1 1/2oz. We are slowly getting there. He was a ham today as usual! He was cooperative and happy today and played with the legos, crayons (placing them in and out of the container, not mommy's favorite:)), and of course CARS, and say it like your from Boston:). He waved to a tired teen off and on and then he ran to the other half of the room and danced around to entertain an infant. When chemo was given he had his regular nurse, a nurse doing her certification and a newbie standing around him. Don't think he didn't eat that up with smiles and winks, I have a flirt on my hands:). Well thats it until next week. Thanks to all of you whi stop in and read the journal, feel free to leave a note.

Thanks again:) Me

OK----Incision site looks great so the surgeon said back to chemo on Wed., so he got his yucky chemo med. today. He should feel better by Sat. or Sun. He lost an ounce:( 24 lbs and 15 oz. but........ We are growing yay!!!!!!!! Counts looked great......Our little one needs to take a multi-vitamin now due to his picky eating.
