Hi Ramseys,
I was looking over your site tonight...remembering all the moments over the years. I was telling my Sam about a post you did a year or so ago, Nancy, that I had to find and read to him. Sometimes, I wonder if kids really get it - - really understanding what it is really like to walk in someone else's shoes. So, I found the post - it was one of your very best, Nancy. It really helped me to understand what it has been like to walk in your shoes.

Here it is: Sights and Sound of PICU
It’s been a while since I sat alone with Nolan in the PICU. Beeps, Dings, Bells, the flowing sound of oxygen and ventilators come from all areas. The lights never go out in here, it is perpetual day, you lose track of time, is it Thursday? or Friday?, is it 4am?or 4pm?, we are lucky our room actually has a window to the outside I can see the night fall. In our room there is also a window to the room next to us where a little baby not more than a couple of months old is on a vent, his name is Matthew, he lies in there alone, we have been here more than 48 hours and I have not seen anyone in his room but the nurses or doctors. It seems strange to me, I can not imagine leaving Nolan in here by himself. Even when he was a baby in PICU I was there as much as I was allowed only leaving when the staff forced me out for rounds. I try not to judge the parents, who knows why they are not here, maybe it is too hard to sit here day in and day out waiting and watching, or maybe they have to work. I said a prayer for them and for Matthew, he is so little, I stood in our window watching his chest rise and fall praying for healing and strength. On the other side of our room the code bells ring every little while, the staff rush into the room all in the yellow gowns and mask pushing machines and supplies, they gather around his bed working on him, a little boy maybe three, I don’t know his name, but I see his family passing our room on occasion, his mother wears a burqa I have not seen her face. There are several others that come to visit him. I pray for him when the bells sound in his room, I know when he is about to code or go into cardiac arrest the monitor in our room has his vitals as well as Nolans, I sit and watch his heart rate go from 98 to 245 in a matter of minutes and his BP bottom out. I am so thankful that Nolan is doing so well and that we are not that sick anymore, we have been where they are when everything can change on a dime. When you constantly watch the monitors for signs of change, you ask the nurse constantly for numbers from the blood work. My we have come so far. Not that this surgery was not major, because it was and that wearing the halo will be easy because it won’t, but Nolan is strong and nothing seems to keep him down. He has a real can do attitude, he was asking today if he can take a walk later, not sure they are ready to have him out and about with his halo!

Anyway, we miss you all. Trying to figure out a good time to come visit. Wondering about Veterans' Day? Are your kids out of school then?

Good Morning Nolan!
I have thought about you so very much over the past few days and yes even months since school let out. In reading mom's entry it sounds like all went very well. This does not surprise me - you are strong, encouraging to others, determined, and basically tough to keep down.
I am glad you have the support from so many, especially the Lord! He will continue to watch over you and help you to get stronger and heal. Know that I too am praying for a speedy recovery for you as is my sister in New York. Yes my whole family knows about you! See you dont have to be on instagram to be a star.
Continue to be patient my friend, all will be okay! Love you much Nolan!!

Nancy- I will be praying for you as you leave this place of comfort and head back to the unknown. "Unknown"- should be listed on maps as places to avoid! I am also praying that you find a place of peace in Maryland and the friends and support that you need, He provides, in an overabundance. We will be praying for you, Sam, Nolan, Cooper and Kenzie as you begin again the road to surgery and recovery. May God pave the road with success. Love you!

I am happy you had this much needed time in Colorado and I am so proud of you Nancy...choosing joy and light is a conscious challenging decision but you are amazing and have always kept the family going. Yes, there are people who still read your updates. I am one of them. Seems YOU are the ones who got the miracle so many others had prayed and wished for! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! You don't know me, and thats not important, What is important is that your sweet boy is doing so awesome and that hopefully someday all the kids will have the same outcome. Until then, the "prayer" people will pray and the rest of us will do what we do, and maybe one day.... there will be an end to this madness!!

Nolan,

Although we've never met you, Weldon and Georgann Bowden told us about your website. We also have two family members with caringbridge websites. It's such a blessing to be able to keep up with our family and friends with challenging circumstances. Keep the faith and know that myriads of caring people keep you lifted in prayer, even when you might be feeling low. Nolan truly is the trooper! "Show me that my tears have made my rainbows." This little saying has helped me lots of times.
Sincerely,

Psalms 31:1-3 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Fortunately, Nolan was able to celebrate a what sounds like a wonderful birthday this year! Congratulations on the new spa - it should be an exciting new adventure. Please let me know if you all are planning a trip to NC anytime soon. I am finishing up my masters in public health and will return to my final year of med school next Monday! Today we celebrate one of the most amazing yet totally incomprehensible days in all of history. I wanted to share some verses that speak of this day, praying that they'll touch your heart as they have mine. Still here praying!
Isaiah 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Romans 8:35, 37-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?...Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A giraffe looks in my window
At the same time everyday,
He just appears with silly ears,
When I turn on the light to play.

I tell him the things I do at two
While he munches and crunches the leaves,
That are so very tasty too,
From the tippy tops of the trees.

One night he didn’t look so good,
His eyes were filled with pain.
I asked him, "What is the problem, the food?"
He said, "I must explain!"

"My knees are hurting pretty bad
And my long neck is so sore.
I really do like our talks,
But I can't take much more!
If you do a favor for me,
I know how my pain will be free.

CAN YOU MOVE UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR!!!

I don't think I have ever signed your guestbook, but I have been reading your site since you were at Duke. I have a son, Jacob, who has severe disabilities. I am just sick to my stomach after reading what happened to you at the restaurant. It is unreal that people can be that mean and unsympathetic. As if you don't have enough to already deal with and then you have to try to wrap your mind around someone else's ignorance. I am so sorry you had to experience that. It's just not okay. Take care.

You can't see right now why the Lord's allowing Nolan to go through so much, but there IS a reason. The Lord is with Nolan every step of the way and everything he's going through has a purpose. All of the things he's going through is molding him into the amazing young man that he is. And because of all he's going through, he's touching more people's hearts that you could ever imagine!

Praying so that the Lord will give you peace and hope through Jesus. Keep your eyes always on Him no matter what happens!

Oh Nancy How Awful! I cannot believe that ladies behaviour. I would of been very upset also if that happened to my child. It is painful for us moms when others do or say hurtful things to our precious children that we love so much. How thoughtless , immature & even abusive on that lady in Chilis part. It is also very sad what she is teaching her child/children by her attitudes.
I often wish in situations like this (when someone acts unkind to my child) I could think faster as how to best respond. Often I think I'm shocked & hurt & cannot think straight until later when I then think I should of said or responded in a certain way...but it's then to late.
It is Very Sad that people can be so uncompassionate!
May God Bless You, Little Nolan and your family!!

I am so so sorry that there are such petty, rude and disrespectful adults out there that would push a child. Nolan is a wonderful child full of life and she obviously has never walked in the shoes of a worried mother over her child. My heart broke with yours. It is a shame that an adult could be that crude! An absolute shame! I pray for you for some thick skin (though thick skin is hard to attain when your precious child is being broken hearted) but I pray for some thick skin and for human beings to understand that everyone is different and we don't all act or look alike. Every person deserves respect and just because someone has a disability that does not mean that you should be mean. I am so sorry for your hurt and I hope that things change for little Nolan. God Bless and keep your chin up. A mother's love is the greatest blanket of safety and love!

I am so sorry that little Nolan had his heart broke. I wanted to do the same to the other kids just reading your experience. Kids are mean sometimes and they are not taught to see everyone the same even if they look or talk different. Tell Nolan to keep his little chin up and just smile. He will make friends and the ones who were laughing at him will stop once they realize that everone likes Nolan. Best of luck with GVH and I hope that he can get cleared up soon!! God Bless!

What comfort to have such a sure promise from Jesus, an anchor for our soul!
Heb 6:17-20: Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Ps 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

I am so happy that you had such an exciting time with your daughter. What a lucky girl.

I completely understand your feeling about school open houses etc. They always leave us feeling overwhelmed and shocked at what is to be expected. I would be happy if Andrew could stay in first grade with his wonderful teacher forever. I am not very good at this, but keep your eye on all the gains Nolan makes and leave the expectations and the goals of the other children for someone else to think about. Celebrate each thing learned and don't hold them against the desired end result. Good luck. Love, Anne

Our Lord Himself promises to comfort us whatever we have to face.
2 Cor 1:3-4 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

So have any surprises arrived at the Ramsey household?? I am dying to know what it is.
Way to go on the potty training. Ahh the relief of no more diapers!!
I hope everyone in the house is feeling 100% better now. I also hope you have bought stock in shovels, salt and snow blowers!! I just cringe every time I see the weather for Denver.
Hope to see an update soon. Love, Anne
P.S. I just updated.

WOOHOO NOLAN!!!!! Way to go, big guy!!!!!!!
This psalm is such a special one. I pray that it gives you comfort and peace!
Ps 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Crying to the Lord on your behalf!
Ps.5:1-3: Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
