Hi Emma,
I'm so glad you got to go to Mexico with your big, extended family. I would like to live there too, so if you move there, give me a call!
I went up north and stayed on the farm to watch your cousins, Parker and Sophie, while their parents were away. It was fun, except I left the door open and the living room filled up with those weird looking chickens with the feathers in their faces. Do you remember them? When I went into the living room, they were all sitting on the sofa and tables, turning their heads back and forth to see me. I screamed for Sophie and we herded them back outside without too many messes.
I also had to herd the horses back into their barn every morning because they were in the front yard. The only tool I had available was a small American flag, so I waved it at their back sides to get them to move along. I felt like an American cowgirl!
I like your pictures and your really, really big smile!
Love you and miss you,
Great Aunt Darcie

Emma, Happy Birthday from all of us in the Pearish family. We have your birthday on our calendar and are happy to hear that you went on vacation. It's wonderful to get to swim in the pool and ocean. Cassidy also swam in a big pool the other evening. She had such a big smile on her face as her daddy held her and swam around with her. She is doing good and we always keep up with you and your family too.

Emma-You have to get back to cheer soon. We have a new girl, Chelsea who can do a round off back handspring! So with you we have 6 girls. We need you to come stunt with us. We are starting choreography (learning the routine) next weekend.
We also have a new coach with us. Her name is Hayley and is from one of our Senior teams at the gym. She got injured and now we get her to help us out.
See you soon.

Emma, You are a Super Star to our family. Cassidy and Sabrina really enjoyed meeting you and your family. It was so special and such a send off to Cassidy as she left for home. The pictures of you and Cassidy together are so special to all of us. You are such a beautiful girl and look so sweet. Sabrina told us you are good at telling jokes and how much she loved seeing you and how much progress you have made. I'm glad you are doing well and that you went to Duke to make sure everything is going fine. Keep up the good work you are doing and I want you to know that you really make other people so happy.

Hi Emma,
It was very nice to meet you and your sisters when you were visiting Minnesota. I hope you had a great time while you were here.
You have a great sense of humor! Remember when Grandpa Pinkie asked if you wanted a baby doll that looked just like him? You told him "Yeah, only not bald." We laughed and laughed. That was a good one!
I hope you can visit again and I'm glad that things went well in NC.
Lots of love,

Hi Emma & Erin,
Was so happy to see the update & that Emma did not have any major problems so that adjusting the meds is all that they found. I check daily but the e-mail notice was nice also. The new CB sits have trouble getting to guestbook entries sometimes but the old sites do not. Always in my thoughts.

Hi Emma. We were at Duke in February with our baby (ask Erin and she'll tell you about us). Are your appointments in the kids hospital? That was a cool building. I thought the gift shop had some fun things in there for kids. What floor are your Dr's offices on? When you're in your motel later hanging out you can write me if you want to.

Well, Erin, I was going to wait until the guestbook got cleaned up, so I wouldn't get deleted along with the opportunistic, but I'll take my chances! LOL

Beautiful, beautiful Emma!!!! I'm so happy that you decided on cheerleading! I haven't checked the photo page yet, but I can just imagine how absolutely adorable you are in your uniform!

I'm so glad that your IEP went well and that you will be in a smaller class. Having home schooled my kids, I tend to like more tutoring type learning. But having graduated from a very good school system in Charleston, SC, I like big schools, too. I just like school! :)

Erin, thanks for your work with those who have acquired brain injury. I have been blessed with many great people in my life who have suffered such a thing, and I will send them your link. One, Brandon, is my youngest son's age, brain injured in a snowmobile accident.

Blessing you all with a great vacation and a great summer!

Now, will I be skunked on the photos? I'll soon know! LOL

Hi, Emma, I am so happy to read about your progress. I am Cassidy's grandmother (Meme) and I printed out your journal when we started our treatment for Cassidy. She has followed in your footsteps pretty closely and is now enjoying the apartment in Durham and going to clinic. Your journal has kept us informed about what to expect and it has made things a little easier for all of us. You are a hero to us...a Super Hero! :)

Erin and Greg, I hope Emma's IEP is what you hoped for and that the school takes good care of Emma and keeps her challenged. I am a third grade teacher in a family of teachers and now we feel that Michael (Cassidy's Dad) has learned enough to become a nurse or Dr.! Sabrina will switch places with him in May and I will be going up to visit them on April 21-28. I can't wait to see them.

I am thrilled to see that Emma enjoyed the wedding and going skating. I am excited that she will have friends at Middle school...that is so important. Cassidy loves friends too and we are looking forward to the day she can return to school.

We will be praying for Kelsey and Zephyr. Also, Carolyn Wyman keeps our spirits up with posts. We appreciate it so much. Keep doing good Emma! We are cheering for you.

Oh, how happy I was to see an update on our Beautiful Emma! It sounds like she is in fine form - and it can only get better! I'm glad that Greg can be there on rainy Thursdays, but I too can't quite imagine such a need!

I'll be praying as she returns to Duke for her check-up - especially that there are no mishaps this year! Kids can be quite a handful - don't I know it! My eldest son broke his arm three times by age 9, and I was a very diligent mother! But he was even more rambunctious ...

May the blessings keep rolling in for the McGregor's!

I "met" Erin a couple of years back, right about the time Emma was diagnosed, through a website for stepmoms. While we haven't kept in touch, I saved this bookmark and check back periodically to see how Emma is doing.

Emma...you are an amazing young lady. It's been incredible to read about your "adventure". And I'm glad that you are doing so well. You made a fantastic witch! I loved your costume.

Erin....you are still an amazing stepmom ;)

Hey, Beautiful Emma! I loved your witch costume! You are definitely one of the prettiest witches I have ever seen! I had to say "one of" because my granddaughter Caelyn was a witch, too - and her dress was very similar to yours. Very Victorian. And Malorie definitely could be a beauty contest winner. Josie, your costume cracked me up! You're all so adorable!!!

I'm so glad that you can dress yourself and get yourself ready for bed, and that you are learning all those wonderful life skills like telling time. I pray that time will give you freedom from the leaning and the pain it causes, and that you won't need that medicine very long, if at all.

God bless you, sweet Emma, with better and better days.

We (The Stennis Foundation)are currently on a mission to raise "Duke Funds"....monies that will help support the current research by Dr. K, and Dr. Beam, and the clinical trials that will begin this year. I'm so excited about this -- it means Emma's MLD will be history, and the effects that MLD has caused in her will be reversed! Thank you, God!

Greg, you have me weeping --- Emma came from God, as a special gift to mankind. We all know that. "Better than an angel," the Bible says.

Emma, I have always felt that you are amazing. Your sweet, kind heart, your thoughts for others, your gorgeous face --- well, you are perfect. Truly perfect.

"Don't worry. It's not forever." What a kid!

Thank You, God!

I'm so sorry that you are feeling a little low about Emma. As a grandma, I have learned that what matters most in a child's life that she is happy, and that happiness depends on how we convey it. When my children were young, my husband was out of work for two years. Since we acted as though it were no problem, our kids were not affected. To this day, financial down times do not bother them. They know their way out. As I see it, your lovely daughters have learned the same lesson - there is a happiness that does not depend on what we define as "normal."

Beautiful Emma, we love you so much! I'm sorry you hurt your leg and had a virus, but I'm very glad that you are in a place to handle both. I do hope one day to meet you, sweet Lady Girl!

Greg, it's hard for us to imagine what it's like for you to deal with MLD up close and personal—a little busy, as you say? I'm praying for you.

Emma, has anyone ever (well, in the last ten seconds) told you that you're beautiful? Keep on kicking MLD butt. You are a champion of working hard and getting better, little by little. You've come a long way, baby!

Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you and inspired that Emma is doing so well. Tis true that when one gets a diagnosis of MLD, the here and now is what is so important. Time is precious and I also learned not to waste time but to make sure that those I loved knew it.

Wow, Greg - very powerful! I think I'm going to print that out and put it up to see it every day. Seriously. I was thinking as I was reading your post about Jesus' words, words I love so much: "Do not worry about tomorrow, for today has enough cares. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

I tend to be positive about things, as it has never done me any good to be negative. But there are times when we need to be honest about feeling bad, and that's okay, as long as we don't get STUCK there. But your words remind us that it is also okay to be "content with such things as we have," as Paul says in his letter to the Philippians. The beauty of that life is found in your post, and I'm so very grateful to you for saying it.

Emma, our beautiful Emma, we're so glad that you're happy in your world. Sometimes, when I look at your pictures, I can almost see where the angels kissed you...
