Your princess was a remarkable girl, who had been through so much in such a short life. I truly felt the love you have for her. I'm one of your contacts on facebook and saw pictures of the memorial garden you made in her honor, it was breathtaking. I imagined her playing in it with her angel friends, and sitting with you when you're there.
Thank you for allowing me into your Angels life, it really touched me. Blessings to you

Happy Birthday Katelyn
So many days have been spent missing you, wondering why we couldn't have just a little bit more time with you, missing your smile, missing your giggle, missing how you inspired so many people in your short little journey on earth. Then we realize you were sent here to change our lives and make us all better people, the lessons you have taught us in such a short time.........most people take a life time to learn and you had to teach us in just 20 months. You really had your work cut out for you, sweet little angel!!
Stay walking beside us, you keep us all going!!

This must be such a tough time of year for you, missing Katelyn as you must so much and with the anniversary of your mother's death so soon, too. Life has sent you some hard times these last years, and I hope that the next ones are much happier. That's not an empty hope. I think often of my sister when I come to your site, having lost my mother and then her first child a week later, then having to watch me be the mother of my first child born a month later, a child who was supposed to be her child's companion. How hard life was on her for a long while, with other hard knocks soon following in quick succession. However, she's now a 54-year-old with two grown children, a beautiful grandson, a loving partner with whom she's taking their annual Christmas cruise as I type this note to you. Life is long, and can be happy and full again, even when it starts out so tough.

Happy birthday Katelyn!

I don't know what time you start blowing out your candles, but if the sky is clear tonight I expect we'll still be able to see the brightest ones. What a wonderful cake they must be on, to feed all the children in Heaven!

You had been there less than a month when Mamie joined you. I know the two of you had lots of fun exploring and discovering exciting and beautiful things together. You'll probably still be finding new things when we join you.

But then I smile because I know that you are no longer in pain and I try to picture you running around, jumping from cloud to cloud trying to get away from grandma and grandpa giggling because they can't catch you. (You are so much like your mother)
Missing you everyday.

Isaiah 40:18-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I'm so sorry that I missed that March 28 date. So much has happened that I imagine that it's hard for you to even catch your breath sometimes. I'm so sorry that these anniversaries are so tough.

What a beautiful poem you wrote, and what a beautiful tribute to have the blood donations, too. I hope that went well.

Your family sounds like mine. I wasn't the only one in our family to have had breast cancer. My mother did and died due to a late diagnosis back in the time when doctors didn't believe that a 40-ish woman might have breast cancer. She was going to the doctor monthly to complain of a mass but wasn't sent for a mammogram until the fourth month. My aunt, my mother's sister, and her daughter also both had breast cancer, but, like me, survived their cancers. So did my uncle's daughter, my cousin on the same side of the family. So tell your sister that the death of one family member from a cancer that perhaps begins to appear to have a genetic basis in your family doesn't mean that will be her fate. It's been 19 years since I had breast cancer at 40. Sometimes, when I am commiserating with someone who has cancer, I forget until later that I've had it, too. I know your sister can't imagine it now, but it's just no longer a big factor in my life. I pray that she'll soon find herself feeling that way, too.

I just read the poem you wrote for Katelyn and it brought tears to my eyes. I can't imagine how much you must miss Katelyn....such a beautiful little girl, such a twinkle in her eyes, a smile always on her chubby lil face. I often wish I had known her but sometimes I feel I do when I hear you talk about her. I am sure she is sitting on grandma and grandpa's knees and taking all their love in....what a beautiful visual.
Thinking of you always but especially at this time of year.....
With Love always,

I am stopping by to say that I hope some warmer days have at last arrived in your part of the world. Here in Texas, it's warm enough that our golden retriever turned and ran back in the house when I tried to take him for a jog yesterday afternoon instead of the cooler mornings when I usually jog him. I spent some time cleaning up our herb garden yesterday, too, in preparation for planting new herbs, and that of course made me think about Katelyn's garden. You've been in a winter of much sadness, I can only presume, and I hope the warmer days bring some easing to that sadness.

I was just looking at that picture of Katelyn and her look-alike doll, both with those cute faces! When my youngest daughter was little, she had a favorite doll, one of those that you don't really know why it's a favorite. That daughter is black-haired and dark-eyed, and this doll was a tow-headed, blue-eyed blonde doll. Its body wasn't cuddly, either. Still, she loved it and it was a much-worn doll by the time she grew too old for dolls. By that time, its white-blonde hair stood up every which way. I saved the doll, though, and it was waiting when her oldest daughter, my first granddaughter, was born and would spend time with us. My oldest granddaughter, the daughter of my black-haired, dark-eyed daughter, was a chubby baby and toddler with white-blonde hair that stood up every which way. She has blue eyes. That doll had become her look-alike doll, and she loved it, just as her mother had. I wish your Katelyn was still there to carry around that doll and maybe pass it on to her children. I hope, though, that the picture brings a smile to your face as it does to mine, reminding you of how loved your little girl was and how capable she was, too, of feeling and showing love.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but my mother's name was Jean, too. I wanted to let you know tonight that I was thinking about you and hoping that the thought of Gramma Jean and Katelyn together with other loved ones brings you some comfort in this difficult time. I know it's not the comfort you want.

Deb,
I wish there had never been a reason to have a CaringBridge page, never a reason to know that I existed. I wish you were complaining to a good friend about how sassy Katelyn was getting and wondering how you were supposed to handle that. It's the least I can do to stop by here and type her name and now Jean's, too, and let you know they're remembered. That sounds so pompous and I've tried rewriting it about a dozen times, but I guess I just sound pompous when I write!

Linda, I can't thank you enough for all the times you have stopped by and left messages in the guest book. You remind me that people have not forgotten about Katelyn and always make me smile when I seem to have a bad day or something in my life is not as good as I hoped it would be. THANK YOU, from the bottam of my heart!

Happy Birthday Little Miss Katelyn!
5 years old.........
It seems like only yesterday mommy and daddy had the biggest smiles on their faces, so proud of that little girl.
Your mommy and daddy never stopped being proud of you, everything you did seemed to impress them, from the battle you fought to that huge smile that could melt anyone's heart.
Never is there a day that goes by that they don't miss you.
Your mommy and daddy are still very proud of you and you would be very proud of them.
They are the most unselfish parents any little girl could have had..............you should be proud of them.

All My Love Aunt Bonnie

PS we all miss you so much, your giggle, your smile, the warmth that radiates from your heart but most of all we miss those kisses.

Deb and Brian -

I enjoyed watching the slideshow of Katelyn's garden pictures. WOW! What a gorgeous place. It is absolutely stunning....just like Katelyn. The pictures from up above (I assume from your roof or a 2nd floor window) really capture just how big the garden is with the waterfall AND how much time/work that went into this beautiful tribute to your Angel. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thinking of you...hope you have a good summer enjoying the butterflies!

Hello my dear friends!
I just wanted you to know that the Mito March was a great success today. Our angels were there in full force!
After the speeches, my sweet friend Christine (Megan's mom) surprised everyone with a butterfly release. Katelyn was part of the tribute and Ashlee released a beautiful 'painted lady' in her memory. It was very beautiful. I'll let Ashlee share her experience with you.

As if meant to be, my little butterfly was slightly injured and couldn't fly...imagine that! He sat on my shoulder for the longest time while people took pictures. I didn't want him to leave. He just sat there and fluttered his wings and tried to fly a couple of times. There was a butterfly doc there (I kid you not). He reported that its abdomen was injured. Hmmmm....are you catching the drift.
Eventually, I realized that for as much as I wanted him to stay on my shoulder forever, I couldn't keep him and it might actually not be the best thing for him because he could fall and get crushed so I let Evan take it and place it in a tree. I turned away and trusted that God would protect him and keep him from getting crushed on the ground.
I have just cried my eyes out as I realize that Kirkland made his presence felt today- in his own way. I wanted to share this so you'd know that if Kirkland was there, then so too was his sidekick. Rest assured that Katelyn was "alive and fluttering" at Mito March today. It was a beautiful native ceremony that Christine read to the crowd. I so wished you'd been able to be there but we will have photos for you...no worries.

Love you all,
Kelly and ^Angel Kirkland^xoxoxox

Hi,
You know that each year (minus one) since Katelyn died, she has sent me one purple crocus in amongst my clump of yellows right?
Well yesterday, when I went to have a peek I was excited to find a purple one hidden underneath the yellows. So I said to Gerry, "Okay, now we just need another purple one to show Kirkland is with her...or maybe even a white one sending greetings from heaven!"

Well I just went outside to take a pic of Katelyn's single bloom for you guys and look what I found...

Hello my friends!
First off...OMG- I absolutely love Katelyn's winter snow garden...it's so moving. You guys are such great parents!

Congratulations on the blood donor clinic. When I learned the date, I was dissappointed because I'd booked myself to work all week and I would have loved to come down and work for Katlyn instead. What a little princess she is, looking down on us and spreading her goodness still.
Hope you guys are okay...life's whipping by at my end and I can't seem to keep up with all my 'duties' lately. It doesn't diminish however, my love for your family and gratefulness for all we've experienced and learned from each other, together along this road.

Just wanted to stop in and congratulate you on an excellent blood donor clinic. It was great seeing you and all the family. Hopefully we will be able to get together this summer.

Dear Deb~

I wanted to stop in tonight to let you know I have been thinking about you! My heart truly goes out to you! I am sure the 28th was a difficult day for you and your family! I wish I had the right words to come hear tonight that could just make everything okay! Sadly, it isnt that easy but please know how much we care about you guys and thank you for sharing your beautiful and amazing daughters story with all of us! She may have only been on earth a short while but she certainly touched many lives!

Hugs to you, my friend!
