Time to CELL-abrate! Conditioning chemo and stem cell transplant completed!
🎉Will’s second birthday is May 30th, 2024🎉

Today is day +2 post transplant. And we’ve had some ups and downs, but so far so good and no set backs or complications AS OF THIS SECOND IN TIME!

Will’s battle with nausea and vomiting is a daily struggle. Much stronger than with his earlier original chemo. But he’s tough and of course pushing through. Sleeping and meds really help but are not infallible. Eating is also another struggle, but more of trying to find something “appealing” to eat and then keeping it down. With the looming side effect of mucositis, threatening his appetite and swallowing even more, they tried two different feeding tubes through his nose to his stomach and both triggered his gag reflex so bad that they are no longer considered an option.

His blood work is looking good! Over the next 7-14 days his red blood cells and platelets are expected to bottom out as his “new” stem cells mix in with the current cells, find their way home and start repopulating and continue their normal daily processes. This is the time where his immune system will be at its lowest and if his platelets get to low, he’ll need blood transfusions to bring them back up. This is also the time where he’ll feel even yukier! This is also critical time to watch his other organs to make sure they’re unaffected and happy. Once his blood work shows signs his stem cells have engrafted, his counts and immunity will start to rise. This is when the doctors will start taking discharge!!

The rest of the crew is doing good and working together! I have overnight and morning shifts at the hospital with Will. Per Will, “Dad snores soooo loud and I can’t sleep! I don’t know how you do it, mom!” 🤣 It’s so wonderful and heartwarming to know he wants me to stay with him because I don’t snore 🤣. But it works out because Bill gets to spend his time running Addi all over the planet while listening to Taylor Swift (torture) and fussing at Emme and Addi to keep the house clean all while trying to work (welcome to my world) 🤣🤣. Chloe and Emme will start clocking some overnight hours once Will starts to feel a little better. TEAM WORK!

Will’s saying this week: “Embrace the suck!”

Thank you to everyone for continued prayers! We love you all!!
