For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
Last week, I received the news that I would no longer be able to stay on the clinical trial I have been on for the previous eight months. My CT scan showed that the cancer is progressing, which means my body is no longer responding to the drug. The doctor who saw me said there were other options, possibly taking pills without doing chemo infusions. That sounded so good to me. I was already thinking of everything I would be free to do if I didn't have weekly infusions. Yesterday, I learned from my primary oncologist that the plan she would like me to follow includes two treatments that are not new, and one part of that is.
If I participate in this clinical trial, I will receive immunotherapy and chemo infusions at the clinic. In addition, I will wear patches at home similar to those used for EKGs, with wires attached to a backpack device I must carry on my body 18 hours a day. The device uses electrical fields at different frequencies to help stop the growth of tumor cells by interrupting cancer cells' ability to divide.
I'll be honest. I don't know if I can handle the patches. I hate EkGs and the patches are small. They are uncomfortable and burn when they take them off. I get hot easily and these patches are large and would cover my abdomen, sides, and back. I have a bad back, and even though the device is only three pounds, carrying that all day could be very challenging for me.
You can see that I have a tough decision to make. Please pray for wisdom and direction from the Lord. Pray he will give me the knowledge and understanding I need to make this decision. My other option is to go back on another chemo regimen that is not a trial drug.
I am off to Nebraska for a week to be with family and Wes is off to speak in Alabama and Mississippi for New Day. Also pray for us as we go our separate directions.
Thanks for your prayers
