I am shocked and saddened to hear of Sean's passing. I had the privilege to work with Sean on a few projects for the VA. I have often remarked about how incredibly generous he was with his time and knowledge, always willing to help out others. His work in colorectal cancer screening helped us build a national program to reduce cancer deaths in Veterans across the nation. I know that his work has had greatly benefitted the researchers he worked with, and the Veterans and non-veterans alike whose healthcare is improved as a result of that research. I only got to meet Sean in person a couple of times, but found him to be extremely warm and friendly. His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers at this time of tremendous loss.

I am incredibly saddened to hear this news. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. I met Sean in the last year at the VA and quickly realized he was 'the man'. He was always willing to help and teach. I spent a lot of time with him sitting in zoom sessions and saw how much passion and knowledge he had for his work. We lost pillar of the community. Rest in peace dear friend.

Sending my sincere condolences. Sean was already working in CCDOR when I arrived back in 2006. Sean is irreplaceable here at the Minneapolis VA. He was a true leader on the CCDOR data/stats team and throughout the entire VA research community. His contributions to the quality of VA research are enormous. He often would take it upon himself to figure out how to do something amazing and complex to increase quality and efficiency. I will miss going to him for guidance. I will miss his extremely high level of organization. He ditched any and all paper copies of any kind years ago and encouraged others to do the same (my desk is not messy I promise!). I will miss the way that he explained things with an incredible amount of detail. I will miss his bright smile and the way that his eyes smiled too.

So sorry to hear of Sean's death; he was a great colleague, quick to help, and also to tell you why you could do things in a better way (and almost always right!). I loved our research/catch up meetings at Sea Salt over a beer, and wish I had taken him up on his offer to dog-sit- he loved big dogs. All the best,

Sending my condolences to the Nugent Family. Sean worked right across the hall from me for many years. He was so bright and witty and it was so satisfying to make him crack a smile or laugh- he had a great smile. He will forever be in our hearts. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Dear Nugent family and friends at the VA. I am very sorry for your loss. Although our paths crossed briefly, Sean's smarts, kindness and fun personality turned me into a fan very quickly. I will miss him

I am lucky enough to be one of Sean’s family. We were brought up practically as siblings, and the Nugents lived with my family when they first moved to LA. Ten of us in a tiny house with one bathroom! Sean and Patrick and I even worked together at our first job at Fosters Freeze (along with Barry and Laura too). We have all remained close, and we have many fun memories over the years. Sean spoke so highly of his friends and his co-workers, and it was you guys who enriched his life in MN. He has a smile you can’t forget, and we all know that we lost a great one! Hug your friends and family close.

What a beautiful tribute, Patrick. My deepest condolences to you and your family.. Sean was loved by everyone in the family. He was fun, funny, modest, kind, dependable, super smart, and a hard worker. He was particularly kind to me during a dark time in my life. He will be missed by everyone he knew.
