Molly's cancer is back...

It's with a heavy heart that we share the news that the Ewing Sarcoma that Molly dominated a couple years ago has returned. She has two new tumors in her ribs that were identified about a week ago. She began treatments yesterday. Her port installation was yesterday morning and she is starting her first 5-day round of chemotherapy inpatient this week. Her chemo schedule will be 5 days on and 2 weeks off. We'll get answers to hair loss and tummy tolerance only after we begin treatment. The chemo drugs are expected to have less quality of life impact than the first line of treatment she originally went through. She's unable to continue those original drugs due to the increasing negative impact on organs like the liver, kidneys, and the heart. Radiation therapy will play a role and there are some remaining questions on how that will be done. This leads us to the point that there are still more questions than answers for our family.
This is bad news, but we are a silver-lining kinda familly as most of you know.

The silver-linings are that:
1. This relapse was caught in a way that, given different circumstances, would have gone unnoticed likely for another 3-6 months.
2. It's in her bone, not in soft tissue. Maybe that doesn't actually matter, but it seems to for my PhD-lacking small brain.
3. We have an army of folks (I'm writing of you, dear reader) that has prayed for our family and her. We know that we can count on you for that again.
4. She should still be able to take part in VBS, camps, and activities scheduled for the summer as long as she feels well.

What we need:
We always need and appreciate prayers. We are unsure if the chemo will work and once we try the traditional relapse chemos, we are then in somewhat of a guessing game as to what will work.

As awkward as it is to mention this, our dear friends have set up our GoFundMe again. Last time it was SO NEEDED to cover costs like deductibles, treatments not covered by insurance, and meals for Maria while she was in patient with Molly – and the occasional food for Molly when hospital food just wasn’t tasting good anymore.

Notes for Molly: she loves to hear from her friends so if you would like to drop a note, just reach out and we will give you our new address in Denton.

We love you all so very much and feel the support of our amazing circle. This is not where we want to be and don’t understand why she has been allowed to suffer again, but we trust in God’s mercy and His love for us. Please wrap us in prayer, and thank you for walking with us.
