Journal

I wish I could fully express how grateful I am for all of you.

This time last year, I wasn't aware of what was happening, and I don't have any memories from the accident (thankfully) nor much of my time in the hospital. What I’ve learned, though, is we have an incredible support system . Your collective well-wishes and prayers were received and I continue to be on a solid healing journey.

All your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy are a big reason why I’m here today. While I’m not as elegant a writer as my extraordinary wife, I do speak from my heart, and thought today, 365 days after the accident, I wanted to reconnect with this amazing community. As I put these words to paper, I know they will never fully convey my true appreciation for all of you.

To this community of clients, friends, family, and most importantly, the best advocate anybody could ask for, my wife, thank you for keeping me alive.

I’m back to work, tackling the honey-do list, helping to coach, and recently, I was able to have a catch with my boys out back. There’s still progress to be made, but reflecting on this year, I've come a long way.

I continue to get stronger each day, but I’m often reminded that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. My marathon year of recovery continues and I feel hope and optimism for what's ahead in my second year of recovery and where I can be this time next year.

The sciatica, drop-foot, kidneys, and lower back are a few ailments that continue to make some days harder than others. One "cool" thing is that I can predict when a weather front is coming. I'm still adjusting to all the "hardware" in my body.

I have a core group of doctors who continue to monitor me and help make me stronger, including PT, therapy, nephrology, and a pain management specialist. While there’s no official end to recovery, overall, there is progress.

A great friend told me early on that I have to give myself GRACE. It stuck with me, and I found power in it. I’d like to share it with you: G.R.A.C.E. Gratitude, Reframing, Awareness, Community, and Energy. It’s a way to become more resilient and achieve success from the inside out.

Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for keeping me and my family going.
