The surgeon had two requirements for me to go home today: my white blood cell count could not go up and I had to feel ready to go home. The second was a no brainer because I was incredibly homesick. My white blood cell count did go up unfortunately, but the increase was small, 16.4 to 16.8. While that’s still elevated, it could be partly due to being post op from the spleen removal and also inflammation due to the infection I was admitted with and subsequent GI bleed. I’m so happy they let me go home!  The surgical team will be following my recovery closely, with frequent appointments and lab work and I will soon begin outpatient PT to help regain strength and stamina. I took a work leave for the last month of school and I will have the summer to completely recuperate before the next school year starts. I’m very fortunate and grateful for that! I can’t say enough about the care provided at Northwestern CDH. The staff truly seem to enjoy their jobs and have a passion for patient care.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words of support and most importantly, your prayers! I’ve no doubt that the power of those prayers have brought me home as quickly as possible!

I enjoyed and appreciated visits from my big brother Deacon Andy and my mother in law, Carolyn, who also made sure my doggies were let out every day. I can never express enough gratitude to Nikki and my sister Mary. Those two witnessed more than anyone should have been subjected to and the love and care they surrounded me with held me up during the scariest times. Sissy, I love you ❤️ I love you ❤️ I love you ❤️! Nikki, you never fail to be there when I need you, and I love you more than anything in the whole world! Thanks to my hubby for holding down the fort at home, and taking care of our doggies - all of this happening while he is going to work everyday and receiving chemo treatment. He had an infusion treatment this morning and then came to the hospital right after to bring me home. 💙

With so much love, thank you!
